7 best YouTube channels for movie lovers

By onias snuka | sep 26, 2021.

ISTANBUL, TURKEY - MARCH 23: The YouTube and Netflix app logos are seen on a television screen on March 23, 2018 in Istanbul, Turkey. The Government of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan passed a new law on March 22 extending the reach of the country's radio and TV censor to the internet. The new law will allow RTUK, the states media watchdog, to monitor online broadcasts and block content of social media sites and streaming services including Netflix and YouTube. Turkey already bans many websites including Wikipedia, which has been blocked for more than a year. The move came a day after private media company Dogan Media Company announced it would sell to pro-government conglomerate Demiroren Holding AS. The Dogan news group was the only remaining news outlet not to be under government control, the sale, which includes assets in CNN Turk and Hurriyet Newspaper completes the governments control of the Turkish media. Believe it or not, there is a loyal community of YouTubers who dedicate their channels to dissecting cinema , their messages, and meanings. This intriguing YouTube community of movie purists are a titular group who strive to, as Mr. Keating of The Dead Poets Society puts it, “…suck the marrow out of life,” and every scene.

Everything from exclusive and in-depth interviews with acclaimed actors, to dialogue analysis that can improve your mental health. These content creators take us under the hood and reveal the foundation for intrinsically great stories put on screen.

For all the movie lovers, here are 7 YouTube channels all silver screen audiences will appreciate.

YouTube Channels every movie lover should subscribe to

Cinema therapy active since: april 2020 subscribers: 582k.

Skyrocketing since their channels launch, Cinema Therapy primarily features the playful banter and movie analytics of two best friends: professional filmmaker Alan Seawright and licensed therapist Johnathan Decker. This down to earth duo (whom you might mistake for your local t-ball dads, dads jokes and all) breakdown blockbusters and the art of cinema through the lens of mental health.

The hosts carefully select scenes from a movie or television show and reflect on one or more character’s actions and psyche. With the help of Alan’s scrutiny of the film, Johnathan then gives a psychiatric diagnosis of the relationships portrayed on screen, along with mental illness symptoms that may be present in the films characters.

Their discussion is always then directed back to the viewer, provoking you to compare your real life situation to the characters and how you may handle life’s struggles of loss, betrayal, depression, etc.  followed by real world applications that the viewer can then use to improve their own mental state . In this era of unprecedented content consumption and mental illness, Cinema Therapy may be one of most interpersonally significant channels on YouTube period.

Thomas Flight Active Since: October 2016 Subscribers: 371k

From Martin Scorsese-Marvel beef, to the power of nostalgia in  Stranger Things , Thomas Flight uses his vast knowledge and film expertise to help his supporters understand the tools and styles used by the industry’s best storytellers. He might be considered the brutally honest know it all child in this family of cinema YouTubers, but Flight’s video essays offer an original lens and perspective to history’s beloved movie masterpieces. Here’s to hoping his passion for visual artistry rubs off on you too.

CinemaWins Active Since: October 2015 Subscribers: 1.89m

The online foil to the legendarily cynical YouTube channel CinemaSins , Cinema Wins  deals out an appreciative attitude that stems from knowing how much time, money and stress is involved in making a feature length film.  CinemaWins playfully pinpoints what movie makers got right as oppose to the mass critics who often pompously (and very subjectively I might add) damn many good and underrated movies for minor flaws.

In the ‘About’ tab from their page, CinemaWins explains themselves, “…some movies, while full of plot holes, continuity errors, and bad acting, have plenty of wins!” This upbeat channel reminds us our final judgements on a subject deserve a holistic review and may often times demand revaluation.

Studiobinder

Active Since: April 2015 Subscribers: 907K

Now if all this movie talk has ever compelled you to think about getting involved in the movie making business, this is a wonderful place to start. Much more in the technical aspects of filmmaking than its predecessors on this list, StudioBinder peeks into the mind of cinema geniuses much like Thomas Flight does on his channel. But rather than understanding filmmaking to just appreciate movies better, Studiobinder presents itself as information meant to be applied in your own cinema endeavors.

StudioBinder dives deeper as to understand filmmaking for the purpose of one day making movies without the pretentious jargon like the movie buffs you probably know. This channel does an exemplary job of demystifying the film making process along with the people involved in it.

The Off-Camera Show with Sam Jones Active Since: February 2013 Subscribers: 429k

How do our favorite screen actors talk when they are not on set or having a discussion in front of a live audience? What are their true feelings towards the medium and the industry? What does a genuine discourse from them entail?

The Off-Camera Show strives to answer these questions as host and film connoisseur Sam Jones goes one-on-one asking insider questions to generational talent actors and artists with massive impact to their craft. The Off-Camera Show reaches a level of authenticity and intimacy with its interviewees your prime-time talk show could only dream of.

Sideways Active Since: November 2013 Subscribers: 847k

Some of the greatest movie directors have suggested that the musical score of any film is 50% of the movie experience. Even higher if the movie is a musical. The Sideways channel is the movie equivalent to biting into a scrumptious confectionary and wondering “what’s in this?”. The host reviews music in movies from a myriad of genres.

Sideways explains down to the very science of why certain keys and chords make us feel certain emotions. For example, I’ve recently learned that a Dm key is typically used to evoke somber emotions. How about them apples? In short, Sideways helps the casual movie watcher to both understand how the score impacts movie and the role of composers in filmmaking.

Fandor Active Since: November 2010 Subscribers: 195k

Don’t let the small subscriber count in comparison to the others on this list fool you. The creators of  Fandor  are movie fanatics who respect the tradition of cinema whilst giving an uplifting perspective on the revolutionary directions the industry may go. Like many branded channels,  Fandor  created a handful of video series that follow a formula perfect for YouTube binging.

My personal favorite is their “Why We Love…” series where it will give a brief, but highly intellectual and insightful evaluation of why a particular actor is so beloved. What makes that particular actor unique and superior. Consider this my “Why I Love Fandor, ” entry.

10 YouTube Channels You Can Switch On To Catch The Best Movie Reviews

There are a lot of movie buffs on YouTube giving their two-cents worth by way of movie reviews. In fact, they have full-blown YouTube channels to show-off their critical takes. Which are the better ones out there? Just like the reviews you catch, the select ten is also taken from a list I follow. Agree or disagree, just give them a ten second glance.

Video blogging or vlogging has made movie fan boys get up from the couch. YouTube has given them full broadcast rights for free to air their raves and rants. The joy of watching movies for free on YouTube is no longer a secret. In fact, you can catch pretty good full length movies on YouTube. Of course, you have to buy your own popcorn.

There are a lot of movie buffs on YouTube giving their two-cents worth by way of movie reviews. In fact, they have full-blown YouTube movie review channels to show-off their critical takes.

Which are the better ones out there? Just like the reviews you catch, the select ten is also taken from a list I follow. Agree or disagree, just give them a ten second glance.

Spill.com is a cool movie site in itself. Its YouTube channel allows you to miss the words and take in what Korey is yapping about on the latest movies that have come out. Catching the animated characters reviewing movies is fun and it helps to know that there are serious critics behind the fun faces.  The pretty to look at Grace is also there with her human touch. Grace also has her own show Beyond the Trailer . As their tag line says - "If its crap...we'll tell you".

Reelz Channel

Reelz Channel is another good movie portal that has let loose Richard Roeper (American columnist and film critic) to tell you what’s the best and the worst being dished out by Hollywood. You get behind the sneak peeks, interviews, news, and reviews. Right now the channel is playing - Roeper's Best and Worst of 2011 (So Far)

Chris Stuckmann

His resume is interesting. His Facebook page defines him as an independent filmmaker as well as film critic and Michael Jackson impersonator. So, when he is not vlogging on movies, he can always do a jig. It’s always informative to hear a filmmaker speak on movies as more often than not they are aware of the intricacies that make a film work or fail.

Jeremy Jahns

The self-appointed ‘funniest critic in the world’ talks fast and goes through a 2 hour movie in 3 minutes or less. The humor is not over-the-top, but low key. The reviews are opinionated enough and he does a good job of even catching the trailers and constructing an entire review based on the sneak peeks.

Fury of The Film Fan

The reviews are long and detailed. For instance, the Captain America ends at seven minutes. The channel presents independent film reviews free from bias and influence. The YouTube channel has its own rating system which goes by names of The Gold Fury Award/The Silver Fury Award/The Fury Mark of Shame.

Schmoes Know Movies

A pair of snooty movie fan boys who poke fun at the movies and at themselves while reviewing movies they have watched. The refreshing thing is that they aren’t film critics but two regular guys telling it how they saw it. Their take is absolutely in your face.

Flick It Before You Pick It

Jonathan hardly smiles when he is delivering his flick picks. This channel belongs to another self-confessed ‘movie cowboy’. He does the whole hog – parodies, raves ‘n’ rants, DVD/Blu-ray collection updates, trailer reviews, top movie recommendations, impersonations etc.

Gab and Dad

Moving away from teens and twenty something film buffs, we come to a family team. In their own words - they review the latest releases, with unique dual-generation dynamics. There’s Phillip the dad, Gabrielle the daughter and mom to Max who also chips in. It’s not as if they agree on all points, but their discussion tells you a lot about what to watch and what to miss.

TomSPerkins (FilmXTRA)

If you go to the website and the YouTube channel, you will perhaps feel that this 23 year old guy is doing a good job of running both outlets single handedly. He uses a five-star rating system to gauge his (and others) interest in a movie. Somehow, if you are in the same age group, it works out quite well.

The Rough Cuts

As a YouTube movie review channel, this one is a bit different as it uses the collective wisdom of seven ‘YouTubers’ to talk about the movies. Each of them gets a day to talk and discuss movies. So, at the end of the week you get seven different views for the free price of one channel. Some are good and some are not very informative. The choice of movies is also very selective and is not always mainstream.

There are a whole lot of web apps that are trying to save you the price of a ticket; from Twitter to dedicated movie sites . Throw YouTube into the mix along with the other ways to read about movie reviews .

Do you go to YouTube for movie reviews? Which is your favorite YouTube channel on movies and films?

The 3 Best YouTube Channels for Funny Movie Commentary

movie review youtube channels

Cinematic trailers often look incredible, with heart-pounding action shots and fast-paced cuts, but more often than not, the actual movie is a letdown (looking at you, “Suicide Squad”). One solution to this all-too-common situation is to hear from someone who has already watched the film and can tell you honestly if it is worth your time and money. Look no further than YouTube, where several successful channels create hugely entertaining videos that offer their own take on various feature films. There are many such channels on the streaming platform, but the following three in particular feature wildly entertaining content that projects a quick-witted attitude and an analytical sense of humor.

1. ScreenJunkies

ScreenJunkies is an online movie magazine as well as a YouTube channel owned by Fandom, a global entertainment brand. It currently has 6.74 million subscribers and one of its most popular series is “Honest Trailers,” with its most recent episode receiving over 1 million views. The series, which makes satirical trailers for both TV shows and movies, was nominated for the 2017 Emmy for outstanding short form variety series.

This channel’s first-ever “Honest Trailer” was presented by Ptolemy Slocum, but it was thought that while his voice was funny, it was not quite right for the channel’s content. He appeared alongside other narrators later on, but the first trailer, “Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace 3D,” was his only video as the sole commentator. Gannon Nickell was the series’s second narrator and worked on 12 videos before being called into military service and getting replaced by the current narrator, Jon Bailey.

The web series, which first went online in 2012, has been going on for a while now. What started as an original idea has gone a bit stale as other content creators have mimicked its premise. The more frequent uploading has also precipitated a decline in quality. Don’t get me wrong, though: “Honest Trailers” is still funny and one of the best sources for entertaining content; it’s just lost the edge that it used to have when it just started.

2. CinemaWins

Narrated by Lee Boucher, CinemaWins is excessively positive about the things it reviews. It doesn’t create parody trailers like ScreenJunkies; rather, it tallies the “wins,” or positive aspects, of the movie or TV series under review.

The About section of CinemaWins’ YouTube page reads: “Because liking things is more fun than not liking things,” which seems like pretty good reasoning. The page adds that the channel is meant to be an inversion of the more cynical CinemaSins, which is discussed below.

The videos generally advance through the film or TV series while displaying the number of “wins” on a counter on the screen, occasionally accompanied by a funny comment. This takes up most of the video time, but this segment is usually followed by a broader review of the movie or show.  The channel currently has 1.67 million subscribers, with the most recent video, “Everything GREAT about the Invisible Man! (2020),” receiving 196,000 views.

3. CinemaSins

If you prefer to balance out the favorable reviews of CinemaWins, then go to CinemaSins. Despite the names, the two aren’t managed by the same people. Just don’t take the criticisms of your favorite movie to heart, because it’s all in good fun. The “sins” are generally awarded for lousy writing, factual flaws, lousy acting or clichés, all while the movie or TV show is gleefully ripped to pieces.

Jeremy Scott and Chris Atkinson manage the channel and currently have 9.02 million subscribers. One of their more recent uploads, “Everything Wrong With Bram Stoker’s Dracula in 18 Minutes Or Less,” received more than 312,000 views. The channel’s catchphrase is “No Movie Is Without Sin,” accurately demonstrating that even the best movies aren’t perfect.

Unsurprisingly, CinemaSins has received a lot of backlash . A channel so relentlessly critical of films and TV shows, which are usually a source of pride for filmmakers, will obviously rub some people the wrong way. Critics have claimed that the channel fails as genuine criticism because it goes over the top in nitpicking faults and generally lacks understanding about the industry. It has also been called mean-spirited, with Jordan Vogt-Roberts , a director, tweeting: “Things like Cinema Sins simply suck the lifeblood of other people and are often just wrong about intent or how cinema works. It’s terrible.”

Some “sins” awarded are trivial, but on the other hand, the hyperbolic criticism is entertaining and can be balanced out by the upbeat positivity of CinemaWins. Still, some of the points that CinemaSins make are entirely valid and are helpful when deciding whether a movie ticket is worth the price.

Since the pandemic began, everyone has been strapped for cash, so if you need help deciding what movies to spend your money on, head to YouTube.

'Family Matters' Actor Darius McCrary’s Raunchy Video With OnlyFans Model Sparks Carl Winslow Jokes

The clip appears to be from a 2021 photoshoot.

Family Matters actor Darius McCrary , who famously portrayed Eddie Winslow on the beloved sitcom, has gone viral after OnlyFans model and former Love and Hip Hop: New York star Sidney Starr shared an intimate clip in which he's featured

In a tweet posted on Tuesday, May 14, the self-proclaimed "transgender diva" shared a clip of her alongside McCrary. In the video, he is seen grinding on her as she dances along to Tank's "When We." They eventually kiss in the short clip, which she used to promote her OnlyFans. "Y’all wanna see what happens next with me and me Eddie Winslow?? Subscribe to my onlyfans right now," she wrote alongside the video.

As reported by Jasmine Brand , the video is a behind-the-scenes clip from a 2021 photoshoot, which ignited dating rumors when the photos first surfaced online. In a post at the time, she wrote, "Here standing next to me is a seasoned legend Actor in this entertainment industry @dariusmccrary. A black heterosexual male actor who’s standing aside a controversial transgender woman like myself…We are great friends and this is a powerful movement we have made to let this be a lesson to the WORLD that we are all human! No matter what!"

McCrary denied he was dating Starr and said they were just friends, but it's unclear if there's more to the clip that she teased on social media. Regardless, it was more than enough to inspire Family Matters fans to share some reactions to him trending.

McCrary previously made headlines in December after he was arrested for failing to pay child support. The actor was arrested on Nov. 27 for a felony charge of not paying child support, with court documents stating that he had an outstanding payment due of $52,788.04 as of March 12, 2019. He pled not guilty at his arraignment and was forced to be monitored by a GPS device. He ran into child support issues in 2015, when he was arrested on a similar charge.

Watch the 'Planet of the Apes' Movies on These Streaming Services

You may be able to watch past installments in the franchise on services you already pay for.

movie review youtube channels

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters tomorrow.

Catching Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes on the big screen this weekend? Why not commit to watching more films in the sci-fi franchise?

Though previous Planet of the Apes movies are available to rent digitally for less than $5, you may also have access to them through your existing subscriptions to streaming services. For example, the last film, 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes , is available on Hulu and Max. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set three centuries after that flick and takes audiences on the journey of a young ape named Noa. The choices he makes "will define a future for apes and humans alike," according to the film's official synopsis .

Kingdom is the 10th film in the franchise and is directed by Wes Ball, who helmed the three Maze Runner movies. The film is set to  hit theaters on Friday, May 10 , and stars Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon and William H. Macy. Here's where you can stream every past Planet of the Apes entry, from the original 1968 film to War, and how a VPN can potentially help out.

How to watch all the Planet of the Apes movies

  • Planet of the Apes (1968) -- Hulu , Starz ,  Sling Freestream  (free with ads)
  • Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970) -- Hulu , Starz ,  Sling Freestream  (free with ads)
  • Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971) -- Hulu , Starz
  • Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972) -- Hulu , Starz
  • Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973) -- Hulu , Starz
  • Planet of the Apes (2001) -- Hulu
  • Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) -- Hulu
  • Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) -- Hulu , Max
  • War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) -- Hulu , Max

Additionally, all the movies are available to rent digitally for less than five bucks each at Amazon and Fandango at Home (formerly Vudu).

How to watch with a VPN

Perhaps you're traveling abroad and want to stream a Planet of the Apes movie on a service like Max or Starz while away from home. With a VPN, you're able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to the movie from anywhere in the world. There are other good reasons to use a VPN for streaming, too.

A VPN is the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds by encrypting your traffic. Using a VPN is also a great idea if you're traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network and want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins. Streaming TV can be a bit smoother with a reliable, quality VPN that's passed our tests and security standards.

You can use a VPN to stream content legally as long as VPNs are allowed in your country and you have a valid subscription to the streaming service you're using. The US and Canada are among the countries where VPNs are legal, but we advise against streaming or downloading content on illegal torrent sites. We recommend ExpressVPN, but you may opt for another provider from our best list such as Surfshark or NordVPN.

Best VPN for streaming

If you're looking for a secure and dependable VPN, our Editors' Choice is ExpressVPN. It's fast, works on multiple devices, and provides stable streams. It's normally $13 a month, but it currently costs less overall to go for a 12 month subscription, where each month  shakes out to $8.32 .

ExpressVPN offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.  Read our review of ExpressVPN .

Follow the VPN provider's instructions for installation, and choose a country where your Planet of the Apes movie of choice will be streaming on a service like Starz or Max. Before you open the streaming app, make sure you're connected to your VPN using your selected region. If you want to stream your Planet of the Apes movie on more than one device, it's possible you'll need to configure each one to ensure you're signed in. Go to settings and check your network connections to verify you're logged in and connected to your VPN account. Now you're ready to open the service to stream.

If you run into issues with streaming, first make sure your VPN is up and running on its encrypted IP address. Double-check that you've followed installation instructions correctly and you've picked the right geographical area for viewing. If you still encounter connection problems, you may need to reboot your device. Close all apps and windows, restart your device and connect to your VPN first. Note that some streaming services have restrictions on VPN access.
