Game Discussion: Mass Effect Legendary Edition
Missable achievements.
Posted on 14 May 21 at 20:07 Are there any missable achievements we should be looking out for as we playthrough? Only ones I can see so far from a quick read would be: 5 missions with specific character classes (assignments count). Insanity as your difficulty. Using abilities (squad orders count).
Posted on 14 May 21 at 21:16 I guess the romance achvts - plus paragon/renegade if you don’t commit either way
Posted on 14 May 21 at 21:29 I would say just about everything other than story related is technically missable in this game.

Posted on 15 May 21 at 05:05 The scholar achievement is probably the easiest one to miss, as there are very specific dialogue options you need to have at certain points early on or you won't be able to get it. Just view the guides people have on here for reference.
Posted on 15 May 21 at 15:56 While scholar is missable you can get it in about an hour if you need to restart. The big ones to look out for are in ME2. You need to do everything you can before picking up Legion. Then do his Loyalty mission and then go rescue the crew

Assignments are the side missions of Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 . These have little to no bearing to the overarching narrative, but completing them may further understanding of the series' underlying workings.
There is a large variety of assignments to complete; this page is a list of them. Click on a specific assignment in the list to read its detailed walkthrough. For a list of missions broken up by cluster and system, see the Mass Effect System Guide .
Some assignments are listed more than once; this is intentional and is intended to make them simpler to find by listing them in all relevant contexts as they appear in the Journal .

Mass Effect 1: All Squadmates & How to Recruit Them
Mass Effect 1 is filled with memorable characters. You’ll become incredibly close with the members that end up joining your squad and fight alongside you to expose Saren for who he really is. In this guide, we’ll go over all of the squadmates you can get in Mass Effect 1 and how to recruit them into your party in the Legendary Edition .
All Mass Effect 1 Squadmates:
1. recruiting kaiden alenko.
Kaiden Alenko is an original member of the Normandy and you’ll begin your adventure with him without having to do anything at all. It is impossible to miss adding Kaiden as a member of your crew.
Kaiden is a powerful Human Sentinel and can use a wide variety of biotic and tech powers, however, is less proficient with weapons as compared to some other squamates that focus more on combat or are a mix of combat and something else.
Kaiden is a romance option for female Shepards.
2. Recruiting Ashley Williams
Ashley Williams will join the Normandy crew as a squadmate after completing the prologue mission on Eden Prime. Regardless of how the events play out on Eden Prime, Captain Anderson will assign her to the Normandy.
Ashley is a Human soldier and is entirely focused on making use of all different kinds of weaponry. If you need a tanky and hard-hitting squadmate, Ashley is a great choice.
Ashley is romance option for male Shepards.
3. Recruiting Liara T’Soni
Liara T’Soni is not missable, however, you can put off adding her to your squad for quite some time if you want. However, we wouldn’t recommend it. Liara will be recruited to the Normandy squad after completing the Find Liara T’Soni mission in the Artemis Tau Cluster. We recommend you recruit her right away as she provides valuable insight into the story and characters of Mass Effect 1.
Liara is an extremely powerful Asari adept. She has access to the most powerful biotic powers in the game and there are few squadmates better equipped to crowd control and disrupt groups of enemies in Mass Effect 1.
Liara is a possible romance option for both male and female Shepards.
4. Recruiting Garrus Vakarian
Garrus Vakarian is a missable squadmate in Mass Effect 1. In order to add him to your squad, you must complete the mission, Citadel: Garrus, which is added after your first visit to the Citadel. Be sure to complete this mission and add him to the squad in order to ensure you don’t miss him for the first game.
Garrus is a Turian long-range infiltrator with the added perk of being a tech expert. Garrus, thus, is great particularly for missions against dangerous Geth where you want to keep your distance while also stripping them of their shields.
Garrus is not romanceable in Mass Effect 1.
5. Recruiting Urdnot Wrex
Urdnot Wrex is a missable squadmate in Mass Effect 1. You’ll need to make sure you complete his introductory mission Citadel: Wrex shortly after checking in with the council after your first visit to the Citadel. Speak to Barla Von for more information on where to find Wrex and/or head to Chora’s Den to get started. Either way, make sure you complete the mission in its entirety and invite Wrex to join the crew to add him.
Wrex is an extremely powerful Krogan Battlemaster proficient in both biotics (particularly defensive ones) and hard-hitting weaponry like shotguns and assault rifles. There are few situations where Wrex, with his high HP regeneration and powerful abilities, isn’t helpful.
Wrex is not romanceable in any Mass Effect game.
6. Recruiting Tali’Zorah nar Rayya
Tali’Zorah nar Rayya is not missable and will be recruited upon the conclusion of the Expose Saren mission whether you choose to add Garrus & Wrex or not, or even if disagree with her being added onto the ship as Udina will ensure that she ends up in your squad.
You wouldn’t want to pass on Tali anyway as she is an extremely powerful tech specialist that can absolutely cripple the Geth, one of the most numerous enemies that you fight in Mass Effect 1. In fact, she can even hack powerful Geth, giving you a major advantage on the battlefield.
Tali is not romanceable in Mass Effect 1.
That’s all you need to know for how to get all the squadmates in Mass Effect 1 and how to recruit them. For more tips, tricks and FAQs answered be sure to check out our wiki guide that is filled with helpful guides.
Mass Effect Mission Order: the best sequence to tackle story missions in
Mass Effect has a fairly open-ended structure where once you get your hands on your ship, the Normandy, you can tackle most of the game’s core story locations and missions in any order you like. However, we do think there is a best mission order in which to tackle things.
This is, of course, all suggested. The nature of Mass Effect’s story means that you can and should think about what sort of order you’d like to approach everything in and then go with your own gut.
With all that said, we do have our own favored mission order for Mass Effect 1 which is based on a few factors - primarily an even-handed difficulty ramp-up, and the best possible pacing for the story, especially in the later parts of the game. We’ll explain our optimum order below.
Mass Effect Mission Order: the optimal mission sequence, according to us
The game begins with a string of missions starting with Prologue: On the Normandy and Prologue: Find the Beacon. This is followed by Citadel: Expose Saren.
On the Citadel you’ll have the opportunity to recruit Urdnot Wrex (Citadel: Shadow Broker & Citadel: Wrex) and Garrus Vakarian (Citadel: Garrus) - and we recommend you do these, as these are two squad mates, great characters, useful in battle, and key players throughout the entire Mass Effect Trilogy - though you can opt not to recruit one of them at all if you wish.
Also on the Citadel, there’s a wide range of side quest assignments you can pick up and play at your discretion. They’re covered in our full Mass Effect 1 side quest assignments list .
Once you get control of the Normandy, you’ll be able to fly to the other core story mission planets in any order you like. We recommend the following order:
- Find Liara T’Soni: head to Therum in the Knossos System, Artemis Tau Cluster. You want to do this first as Liara is a squad member, and rounds out your team with an expert Biotic user (which is Mass Effect's mage-style class).
- Citadel: side quests mop-up. All quests from your previous visit remain open, but some new ones are available after finishing your first story planet, including the side quest exclusive to your Shepard's pre-service history background . We recommend you complete Citadel: Scan the Keepers using our Keeper Locations guide at this time, in particular.
- Asteroid X57: Bring Down the Sky: this is DLC, but it slots better into the earlier part of the story. It’s included in the remastered legendary edition of the game.
- Noveria: Geth Interest & Matriarch Benezia: you should take Liara on this mission if you can. Completing this story world unlocks more side content throughout the galaxy.
- Citadel & Uncharted World Exploration: more side quests mop up
- Feros: Geth Attack & The Thorian: Tali is a killer squadmate on this mission, where you’ll be fighting a lot of Geth.
- Pinnacle Station: this is DLC, and isn’t available at all in the new legendary edition remaster; so skip this if you’re on that version.
- Point of No Return: Complete any remaining side quests and assignments here, as the story becomes a rollercoaster from here on out. Remember, completing many side quests is key to a great many things, including amassing enough cash to unlock the best weapons in Mass Effect .
- Virmire: Saren’s Plan / Assault: we’ve got a separate guide on the big choices on Virmire if you need help.
- Ilos: Find the Conduit / Trench Run / Race Against Time: be aware that once you travel to Ilos, it truly is the point of no return aside from starting over in a new game plus. When you trigger the visit to Ilos, your Mass Effect romance option will be locked in and the romance scene will take place.
Obviously this is a suggested order, but we feel this is an optimum order for a well-paced, well-balanced play-through of Mass Effect, even on Insanity difficulty.
As a general suggestion, try not to use the same pair of squad members for all story missions and side missions. All have interesting things to say, and you’ll benefit from taking people with a vested interest - missions involving the Krogan, for instance, are Wrex’s deal. Tali will always have more to say when the Geth are involved. Additionally, you’ll want to think about how useful their powers are. Tali isn’t very good against biotic opponents, but her tech powers can tear Geth to pieces easily.
This article is part of a series. As you move on to the next games, check out our Mass Effect 2 Mission Order and Mass Effect 3 Mission Order pages for the same advice in those games - which are longer and more complicated.

- Asari - This is unlocked automatically during the first meeting with the council.
- Salarian - This is unlocked automatically during the first meeting with the council.
- Turian - This is unlocked automatically during the first meeting with the council.
- Protheans - When talking to Anderson and Nihlus on the Normandy, choose the “Investigate” option and then “Protheans” when it’s given. This is the most missable of all the codex entries.
- Rachni - Near the Citadel Emporium, there is a large statue of a krogan in the water. Next to it is an Avina station. Talk to the VI, Investigate, and ask about the Rachni Wars.
- Batarian - Before leaving the Citadel after becoming a Spectre, talk to Anderson and ask him about his history with Saren and his previous mission. Choose “You worked with the Spectres.” If you don’t do this at that time, then you can find Anderson in Udina’s office and ask him about it then.
- Elcor - In the Citadel Embassies, next door to Udina’s office is the elcor ambassador, Calyn. In the Investigate options, ask him about his race.
- Geth - After you find Ashley on Eden Prime and she joins your squad, choose “Geth” after “Investigate”.
- Hanar - There are two hanars in the Presidium. The first is between the Citadel Tower and the Embassies. That is the one that is in trouble with C-Sec for preaching. The other is in the Citadel Financial District. Talking to either and Investigating will add this codex.
- Keepers - There is a Keeper next to an Avina station on the Citadel that you can examine. Speak with Avina. Asking about the Keepers adds the codex entry.
- Krogan - This is unlocked automatically when you recruit Wrex.
- Quarian - This is unlocked automatically when you recruit Tali.
- Volus - In the elcor ambassador’s office, ask the volus, Din Korlack, about his race in the Investigate options.

Mass Effect Achievement Guide
There are 49 achievements with a total of 1200 points.
- Medal of Honor
Complete 1 Mass Effect Playthrough on any setting
Finish the main quest. Now, I recommend you start out at Casual. No, Normal is NOT Hardcore, and Veteran is NOT Insane. So, go easy, find out where everything is at. Save your money for the next playthrough. Make sure to always use two allies and do all of the side quests with them.
- Medal of Heroism
Complete Feros
Feros is the planet that has the colonists and is not covered in snow. Now, all you have to do is: Talk with the leader, kill the Geth, now this is important: Talk with him again, then talk with the people in charge of: Food, water, and power, and do their side quests! After that, move up the bridge, go to ExoGeni, find Lizbeth, return to the colony. Now, either upgrade your grenades with the Thorian gas or kill them all. Now, if you kill them and didn't do the side quests, you will NEVER complete them.
- Distinguished Service Medal
- Complete Eden Prime
This is your first mission. This is important: If you want Insane or Hardcore, you can change the difficulties in-game, but do it BEFORE landing on Eden Prime! This was confirmed in the Bioware Forums. Now, just kill the Geth then de-activate the bombs by standing near them and holding A. After that, approach the Beacon and you're done.
- Council Legion of Merit
Complete Virmire
Virmire is the planet you receive from the Council. First, you land, clear the AA guns and approach the Salarian Camp. You can get the Charm/Intimidate on Wrex, who will want to get the cure for the Genophage. Don't worry if you don't have it maxed out, there's another chance later in the game. Now, choose between Kaidan and Ashley to go with the Salarians. Later in the battle, you will have to choose who to save. IF one dies and you're doing the romantic sub plot, it will end there.
- Honorarium of Corporate Service
Complete Noveria
Noveria is the planet covered in Snow, and has Matriach Benezia. In order to get the garage pass you need to help Lorik. Go to the garage, kill the Geth, and drive up. Once in the facility, you'll need to activate the VI's core. Either doing the Tower of Hanoi puzzle [search in the site or google for how to do it] or sacrifice 100 omni gel. Then, activate the power and landlines. Once in the tram, you must kill the Rachni, but first go down the elevator to where the survivors are at, get the pass, and to the hot labs. Activate the Purge and get out. Return to the survivors, (SPOILER: Kill them). Go to the end of the place, and go to the tunnels. Find the Matriarch. To kill her, you MUST kill the Geth and Asari Commandos. DO NOT FIGHT HER. Start off, kill the Asari Command rushing you, then RUN TO THE RIGHT and kill the Geth and Commandos after talking with her, she'll go berserk again. Kill ALL enemies, then kill her.
- Long Service Medal
Complete 2 Mass Effect Playthroughs on any setting
After finishing your Casual, or any play through, select new career and existing ID. Make sure to change the settings in the main menu, difficulty to Hardcore.
WARNING: Whe you start the game in the Normandy, check the setting again and make sure it is set to Hardcore to get these at the same time! If you land on Eden Prime and it wasn't set right, you will not get the achievement for Hardcore.
- Distinguished Combat Medal
Complete 1 Mass Effect playthrough on the Hardcore difficulty setting. Do not change the setting.
ALL organic enemies have immune. They are very accurate and WILL cut you to shreds. Take cover often, but watch out for rockets. Use the Spectre Master Gear and a lot of Biotic powers. Lastly, all enemies are the same level as you. Refer to the " Long Service Medal " achievement.
- Medal of Valor
Complete 1 Mass Effect playthrough on the Insanity difficulty setting. Do not change the setting.
Refer to Distinguished Combat Medal and Long Service Medal. Note: ALL organic enemies have immune. They are very accurate and WILL cut you to shreds. Take cover often, but watch out for rockets. Use the Spectre Master Gear and a lot of Biotic powers. Oh, and for fun, enemies and bosses are higher levels than you.
- Pistol Expert
Register 150 Pistol Kills
The pistol is available to all classes and is the easiest one to get if you start working on it right away. No matter your class, put in enough points into the Pistol tree so that you can get the Marksman skill, as it is immensely helpful for this achievement. When you get the skill, use it as often as you can, as it makes using the pistol very effective. Even if you don't play as a Soldier or a class that doesn't have any training for that particular weapon, it is still very possible to get the achievement. Focus on getting as many accuracy improving attachments for the guns you aren't trained in, and stabilizers for Sniper Rifles. It's not as good as playing as a class trained for the weapon, but it's better than nothing. Also, kills made by teammates do not count towards this achievement. Note : Sentinels don't have pistol training. They get pistol bonuses from their class skill. All weapon kills carry over between playthroughs and careers. Even if you don’t get all 150 kills in one playthrough, any kills you have made will carry over into every other one you may have.
- Shotgun Expert
Register 150 Shotgun Kills
See " Pistol Expert " for more info. The Shotgun training is only available to Soldiers and Vanguards, but can be done by anyone. Focus on getting as close to enemies as you can, fighting Husks and Thorian Creepers are the best enemies for this achievement, as they need to get in close in order to damage you.
- Assault Rifle Expert
Register 150 Assault Rifle Kills
See " Pistol Expert " for more info. Only Soldiers can train to use Assault Rifles, but some of the better ones are viable for use by other classes. Anyone but the Soldier is going to need to focus on improving accuracy if they want to hit enemies, but you must also worry about it overheating. Assault Rifles can overheat very quickly if you don't pay attention, so always make sure it has time to cool down so you don't have to wait.
- Sniper Expert
Register 150 Sniper Rifle Kills
See " Pistol Expert " for more info. Soldiers and Infiltrators are the only class that can train in Sniper Rifles, but with enough upgrades, it can become easier for other classes to use them. No matter the class, focus on getting as many stabilizer upgrades for your sniper rifle, so that you aren't moving around much while aiming down the scope. It's still possible for it to stray with upgrades, so you may have to learn how to aim with the movement. It can be a pain, but it is manageable.
- Lift Mastery
Use biotic Lift 75 times
Create an Adept character, as they can use all biotic powers. Go to the Citadel and target a Citadel Rapid Transport station. Use, Lift, Warp, Singularity, Stasis, and Barrier (although you could just run around casting barrier). Then wait for all your powers to recharge and repeat until you get all the achievements. It helps to have adrenaline rush as it resets all your cooldowns, so you can get an extra cast in whenever it is off cooldown. Note : Ally power usage will not contribute to these achievements.
- Throw Mastery
Use biotic Throw 75 times
See " Lift Mastery " for more info.
- Warp Mastery
Use biotic Warp 75 times
- Singularity Mastery
Use biotic Singularity 75 times
- Barrier Mastery
Use biotic Barrier 75 times
- Stasis Mastery
Use biotic Stasis 75 times
- Damping Specialist
Use Damping Field 75 times
For these achievements, you'll need to be an engineer class character. To use these: Press RB and highlight the power you want, then press A. You can map it by pressing X, then all you have to do is hit RB to use the power. Only do that if you're working on one at a time.
To make this faster, use the manual cast for every power you have, then use adrenaline rush. You'll get a second use of every power with that. Now everything will recharge, rinse and repeat.
YOU must do these, ally casts don't count.
- AI Hacking Specialist
Use AI Hacking 75 times
Must be an engineer.
The only one of these achievements that MUST be done on an enemy. First, level up to a level 10 and then use all your points on the AI Hacking power. Then you can hack any of the enemies you come across. You will know when an enemy is hacked cause it will attack other foes of yours and will indicate to you it is hacked instead of having an energy bar.
Just find a turret to use it on... Use it, hide, recharge, rinse and repeat. People have recommended the fight with Fist as a great time to do this with the two turrets in his office. Make a save just before this point, hack them both and reload the save. The hacks will go toward the achievement even though you didn't save your game after doing them.
- Overload Specialist
Use Shield Overload 75 times
Refer to " Damping Specialist ".
- Sabotage Specialist
Use Sabotage 75 times
- First Aid Specialist
Use medi-gel 150 times
For this achievement, all you will need to do is press the Y button. Make sure you're damaged, or else it won't allow you to use the medi-gel. This carries over play any through. It is likely you'll get it after finishing Hard Core.
- Neural Shock Specialist
Use Neural Shock 75 times
Find all primary Alien: Council Races, Extinct Races and Non-Council Races codex entries
This is a missable achievement, but can be done fairly early on, so it's not hard to do in the case you do miss your chance. For this achievement, you must find all codex entries for every race in the game. Getting each codex entry involves investigating certain people while talking to them, which will always be the left option in the conversation circle. Several codex entries can be gained in multiple ways, while others you will only have once chance to get, which is why this achievement is missable. To get each codex entry, you must do as follows: Aliens: Council Races Asari: Automatically unlocked after first meeting with the Citadel Council about Saren; Talk to Saphyria. She can be found by the embassies, as she is the receptionist. Salarian: Automatically unlocked after first meeting with the Citadel Council about Saren. Turian: Automatically unlocked after the first conversation in the game with Captain Anderson and Nihlus. Aliens: Extinct Races Protheans (Missable Codex): During the first conversation with Captain Anderson and Nihlus, investigate when given the chance, and Protheans should be one of the choices; After becoming a Spectre, you will be forced to talk with Ambassador Udina and Captain Anderson. After Udina leaves, ask Anderson more about Noveria. Rachni: On the Citadel Presidium, go to the Avina terminal by the giant Krogan monument. Talk with her, and investigate and ask about the Rachni; On Noveria, you can get the codex from two people. The first is Han Olar, the volus scientist. The other is Yaroslev Tartakovsky, who is the last person you must talk to on Noveria. Aliens: Non-Council Races Batarian: After officially becoming a Spectre, ask Captain Anderson about his previous mission, while in front of the Normandy. You can also ask him about it anytime you return to the Citadel. He will be in Udina's office at the embassies, on the Presidium; if you chose either the Spacer or Colonist for your Pre-Service history, you will gain a personal quest regarding those backgrounds. Either of these quests will also give you the codex for doing them. Elcor: At the embassies on the Citadel Presidium, talk to Calyn, and ask him about the Elcor; On the Rift Station in Noveria, talk to Petozi. He'll be one of the only Elcor you see on Noveria, so he's not hard to find. Geth: Investigate with Ashley Williams when you first meet her on Eden Prime; Once you get back onto the Normandy after finishing Eden Prime, ask Captain Anderson about it. Hanar: On the Citadel Emporium on the Presidium, talk to the Hanar merchant named Delan. Ask him about his speech for the codex. On the other side of the Presidium, talk to the Hanar preaching about the Enkindlers. Keepers: By the elevator on the Presidium that leads up to where the council is, there is an Avina terminal and a Keeper nearby. Ask Avina about the Keepers; Talk to the Salarian named Chorban, and accept his quest. He will be scanning a keeper, right in your path when you go to meet the council, so it's very hard to miss him. Krogan: Progress through the main story normally. It will unlock when you gain Wrex as a party member. Quarian: Progress through the main story normally. It will unlock when you gain Tali as a party member. Volus: In the embassies on the Citadel Presidium, in the same office as the Elcor ambassador. Talk to a Volus named Din Korlack and ask him about his race; Talk to the Avina terminal just outside of the embassies, and ask her about the Volus.
- Completionist
Complete the majority of the game
By majority of the game, they mean an undefined amount of the game. I recommend that you choose two characters and go with them till the end. Try to not start a side quest without the characters you want. There around 70 side quests including the main quest ones. So, make sure you do around 60 of them before Ilos. IF you haven't gotten the achievement after that, then you should try exploring the galaxy and doing more quests. Remember to talk with allies in order to generate more side quests.
NOTE! Completing the DLC makes a noticeable contribution toward this achievement. You should be able to earn all of the ally achievements before you get to Ilos if you complete the DLC.
The following is a list of missions in the game: MAIN QUEST: Prologue: Find the Beacon Citadel: Expose Saren Citadel: Garrus Citadel: Wrex Feros: Save the colony Noveria: Matriarch Benezia Noveria: Lorik Qui'n Noveria: Peak 15 Noveria: Reactor Repair Noveria: Reconnect Landlines Noveria: Contamination Noveria: The Hot Labs Noveria: Rift Station Find Liara T'Soni Ilos: Find the Conduit Race Against Time SIDE QUESTS: Citadel: Scan the Keepers Citadel: Presidium Prophet Citadel: Reporter's Request Citadel: The Fan Citadel: Rita's Sister Citadel: Signal Tracking Citadel: Jahleed and Chorban Citadel: Homecoming Citadel: The Fourth Estate Citadel: Family Matter Citadel: Asari Consort Citadel: Old Friends Citadel: Xeltan Convinced Citadel: Planting a Bug Citadel: Schells and his Data Citadel: Negotiator's Request UNC: Missing Survey Team UNC: Rogue VI UNC: Hostage UNC: Major Kyle UNC: Distress Call UNC: Missing Marines UNC: Privateers UNC: Hostile Takeover UNC: Matriach Writings [10 needed, I collected 15] UNC: Missing Scientist UNC: Turian Emblems [13 needed, I collected 17] UNC: Minerals [ Rare Earths: 20, I found 23. Complete playthrough with shield damage greater than health damage
Simply complete the game with YOU having more shield damage than health damage. Take cover often. This is easiest with a soldier class since they can wear heavy armor. Get a good armor with 4 bars of shield early and this will be simple. Also try to get it on your first play as you will take more damage during your Hardcore/Insane runs.
- Medal of Exploration
Land on an uncharted world
A very easy achievement, especially if you plan on getting any of the achievements requiring you to beat the majority of the game. A large amount of the side-quests in the game require you to go to uncharted planets, so you will get this achievement early on. As soon as you land on any uncharted planet, the achievement will unlock. You don't even have to do anything, just land in the Mako. Note : Therum, the planet you will find Liara on, does not count towards this achievement. The planet you land on must be optional for the story.
Exceed 1,000,000 Credits
This achievement is much easier than it sounds, as money is very abundant in this game. Go through everything you can find pick up as many items as you can, and sell whatever you're not using. Also, doing side-quests also gives you money, so do as many as you can as well. When you get this achievement, you gain access to the Spectre weapons, available in the C-Sec surplus store. These are the best weapons in the game, so be sure to buy as many as you can.
Register 150 organic enemy kills
Add the Shredder bullet upgrade to your weapon and allied weapons. Kill anything that is NOT Geth/mechanical. You'll get it eventually. Yes, they carry over to new games. Do side quests. The Cerberus missions have a lot of mercenaries.
- Geth Hunter
Register 250 synthetic enemy kills
Add the Tungsten upgrade to your weapon. By Synthetic, they mean Geth or turrets or anything mechanical. If you don't get this by Virmire, don't worry. The last mission has A LOT of enemies. Do side quests, there are plenty of Geth Ambushes in the beacons.
- Soldier Ally
Complete the majority of the game with the Alliance soldier squad member
See completionist achievement for extra info. This achievement is for Ashley.
Do A LOT of side quests. Don't worry if you get one ally first and later the other. You can get two per playthrough only. It is possible to get these achievements even before going to Ilos if you complete every possible side quest and all main missions. Bring Down the Sky DLC will also help.
Refer to this thread for some insight to these achievements.
Basic plan of attack for ally achievements:
- Go to Citadel, talk to Council
- Find Harkin (Chora's Den), Garrus (Med Clinic) and Wrex (C-Sec)
- Take care of Fist (do not pick up his OSD!)
- Rescue Tali in the Wards Access
- Talk to Council, become Spectre
- Head to Therum and rescue Liara
From here, you will have all the allies. Pick the two you want to use and use them for EVERYTHING. If you don't have an ally with decryption and need them to unlock a quest by hacking a computer, switch them in to receive the quest, then immediately go back and switch them out.
Now with your two allies:
- Complete any possible Citadel assignment
- Complete any random space assignments (check this list and see which ones can be acquired simply by visiting a system or planet)
- Complete Bring Down the Sky missions (400MSP off the marketplace)
- Complete Noveria (do all assignments BEFORE leaving the arrival site)
- Complete Feros (do all assignments BEFORE leaving the arrival site)
- Go back to the Citadel and complete any assignments you started on Noveria/Feros
- Complete Virmire (do not kill Wrex!)
- Back to the Citadel once more
You should have the achievements by now, but if you don't, head to Ilos and finish out the game. Many people got a few of the achievements (mainly Liara) at the very last mission.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO ANY COLLECTION ASSIGNMENTS FOR THESE ACHIEVEMENTS! -- These missions take forever, and they will help, but they are 100% not required to get ANY of the achievements, even Liara.
- Sentinel Ally
Complete the majority of the game with the Alliance sentinel squad member
See " Soldier Ally " for info. This achievement is for Kaiden.
- Krogan Ally
Complete the majority of the game with the krogan squad member
See " Soldier Ally ". This achievement is for Wrex.
- Turian Ally
Complete the majority of the game with the turian squad member
See " Soldier Ally ". This achievement is for Garrus.
- Quarian Ally
Complete the majority of the game with the quarian squad member
See " Soldier Ally ". This achievement is for Tali.
Complete the majority of the game with the asari squad member
See " Soldier Ally ". This achievement is for Liara.
- Power Gamer
Reach 50th level with one character
Do a lot of side quests. If you do them all, by the first play through you'll probably get to level 40. There is a glitch that only gives you 300xp every time, but to do it: Find Liara when SHE IS TRAPPED IN THE BLUE FIELD! Kill the enemies, save, then load the save. Congrats, you got 300 points! I would only recommend that in the early levels. Also, make sure that when on the Mako to kill enemies on foot, not with the Mako, you'll get more experience that way.
- Extreme Power Gamer
Reach 60th level with one character
You must finish the game once in order to unlock levels 51-60. In total, you will need 862,100 experience points to reach level 60. Do ALL side quests, and it is most likely that you will get this at the end of your second way through or third. Also, make sure that when on the Mako to kill enemies on foot, not with the Mako, you'll get more experience that way.
Accumulate 75% of total Renegade points
See " Paragon ".
Accumulate 75% of total Paragon points
On Noveria, when you are given the oppurtunity to accept the assignment from Lorik Qui'in to get the evidence to catch the Salarian (Anoleis, the administrator guy who has his own office) in his rend-based scandal, agree to it. He will open up the shut-down elevator, go down there and get the evidence. Upon exiting to go back to him you will run into Gianna (receptionist lady), so talk to her then go meet her in the hotel/bar. She will ask you to get him to agree into turning Anoleis in, agree and go talk to Lorik Qui'in. Talk to him, and do the following:
- (Top Right) Testify against Anoleis
- (Top Left) {Paragon} You'd be a hero
- (Bottom Left) {Renegade} Damn right I will
- Talk to him again
- (Left) Matriarch Benezia
- (Bottom Right) Another Question
- *Repeat step 1*
Repeat these two steps for whichever one you want until the achievement unlocks, then switch to the other for that achievement. Remember to do whichever way you DON'T want your character to be first so when you finish with the second achievement, you are high in either Paragon or Renegade, depending on your preference.
Complete any romance subplot
Throughout the game, you can talk to all of your squad members and learn about them. Certain squad members, if you talk with them enough, you can eventually romance. Who you can romance depends on the gender you choose to be, but the romance options are as follows. Male Shepard: Ashley Williams, Liara T'Soni Female Shepard: Kaidan Alenko, Liara T'Soni Whoever you decide to romance, make sure you talk with them after every story mission, and always choose paragon or neutral choices so as to keep the romance going. Even after they express interest, nothing will happen until the end of the game. Once you finally are able to go to Illos, your romantic interest will approach you. Continue to be supportive and eventually you will be given the option to invite them in for the night. Once the scene plays out, you will unlock the achievement.
- Spectre Inductee
Become a Spectre
This is a part of the story, and cannot be missed. After finishing Eden Prime, you will go back to the Citadel and you must build a case against Saren. Proceed normally until eventually you'll be told of someone who has information against him. When you find the person and meet with the Council afterwards, you will officially become a Spectre, and unlock this achievement.
- Charismatic
Use Charm or Intimidate to resolve an impossible situation
There are two "impossible" situations in the game, both of which require you to have very high levels in charm or intimidate. Only focus on one, as putting points in the other is a waste. If you do not have enough, you will not have enough to resolve the situation. Both these decisions are made in the second half of the game, and contain spoilers for those have not made it that far. Your first impossible situation is on Virmire, and it involves Wrex. When you find out that the facility Saren is using on the planet is to cure the genophage, and plan to destroy it, Wrex becomes extremely upset. You must talk with him, and try to reason with him as to why the facility must be destroyed. If you have 8 points in either of the alignment skills, you will be able to talk him down from his stance, and he will agree to keep on fighting, which unlocks the achievement. The second impossible situation takes place during the finale of the game, on the Citadel. When you finally are able to get to the top of the tower, in the Council Chambers, you will find Saren. After talking with him, you must convince him that he's become indoctrinated, and that there's only one way to end it. Your skills need to be very high to unlock these dialogue options. If you are able to convince him to commit suicide, you will unlock the achievement.
- Search and Rescue
Locate Dr. T'soni in the Artemis Tau cluster
One of the three possible places to go after meeting with the council and becoming a Spectre. Here, you must find Liara T’Soni, one of your recruitable squad members. Unlike the other planets, you are not told specifically which planet she is on, only that she is in the Artemis Tau cluster. She is on the planet Therum, in the Knossos star system. The mission starts off with you in the Mako, but after you pass through several gates, must get off and travel on foot, where you will fight a Geth Armature. After the fight, it's just a matter of freeing Liara, and rescuing her. You will then fight against a Krogan sub-boss to complete the mission.
DLC: Bring Down the Sky (Store Link)
There are 1 achievements with a total of 50 points.
- Colonial Savior
Complete the Bring Down the Sky mission.
Finish the "Bring Down the Sky" DLC missions.
You must have access to the Normandy and the Galaxy Map. Head to the Asgard System in the Exodus Cluster, then land on Asteroid X57. There are three assignments here that will help toward your completionist and ally achievements.
- Bring Down the Sky
- Avoid the Blasting Caps
- Missing Engineers
DLC: Pinnacle Station (Store Link)
There are 3 achievements with a total of 150 points.
Complete Ahern's survival mission
After beating the record on the 12 combat scenarios, Admiral Ahern will invite you to participate in a final scenario. Accept his offer and the scenario will begin. As soon as you start, head towards the middle of the area and retrieve the data from the large object. Then, head to the stairs where you started and activate the turret. Now, you'll need to hold out for five minutes. Make use of your teammates and the biotic powers, they'll come in very handy. Once the five minutes is up, the achievement will unlock.
- New Sheriff in Town
Take first place in any combat scenario on Pinnacle Station
See " Best of the Best " for more info.
- Best of the Best
Take first place in 12 combat scenarios on Pinnacle Station
There are 12 different combat scenarios you can take part in, each with different objectives. One you take first place in all of the first eight missions, you will unlock the 4 ‘advanced scenarios.’ There are four types of missions, Time Trial, Capture, Survival, and Hunt. Each individual scenario has a set requirement in order to place first in it. The requirements to gain first on each scenario are as follows. Time Trial (Warehouse) - 01:24:67 Time Trial (Tropical) - 01:20:94 Time Trial (Volcanic) - 01:54:61 Capture (Volcanic) - 02:00:53 Capture (Tropical) - 01:58:67 Capture (Subterranean) - 01:29:47 Survival (Volcanic) - 01:31:83 Survival (Tropical) - 01:46:43 Survival (Subterranean) - 02:20:57 Hunt (Subterranean) - 35 Hunt (Volcanic) - 43 Hunt (Tropical) - 50 In time trial, you must kill all the enemies within a certain amount of time. Capture is similar to time trial, but instead of killing everyone within a specified time, you must stay near each point and capture them with a certain amount of time. Survival, you need only to survive for a certain amount of time, with it ending when you die. Hunt requires you to kill a certain amount of enemies within a certain amount of time. All missions (not the individual trials) found here count towards Completionist and all of the Ally achievements.

ME1 and time-sensitive missions
I'm playing through ME1 for the first time (finally) and I was wondering - any time-sensitive missions I should be prioritizing? I'm scanning all of the planets first to get it out of the way, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't screwing myself over by ignoring all of the transmissions I'm getting until later.

Mass Effect 1 Legendary Edition
Assignments citadel, missing person - unc: privateers.
This Assignment takes place during your first visit to the Citadel once you have met the council for the first time.
(1 of 2) You’ll need to scan for the MSV Majesty in the Strennus system first
You’ll need to scan for the MSV Majesty in the Strennus system first (left), then head down to Xawin to discover the mercenary camp. (right)
How to Begin ¶
There are several ways to begin this Assignment, with the earliest being from Garoth on the Citadel:
Head to the Citadel Tower on the Presidium after your first Council Meeting to find Garoth standing near the stairs leading to the fountain, this begins the Assignment as UNC: Privateers and earn +2 Paragon .
While visiting Noveria as part of the main story, you’ll come across a computer at Synthetic Insights that you can hack where you’ll receive a report, this begins the Assignment as Missing Person.
Finally, you can head directly to Horse Head Nebula and make your way to the Strennus System . Here you can scan the MSV Majesty near Planet Xawin, this begins the Assignment as UNC: Privateers.
Once accepted, you must complete this Assignment before you complete Virmire as it’ll become unavailable at that point.
Go to Xawin ¶
Once you’re ready, make your way to the Strennus System in Horse Head Nebula and move your cursor to the left of Xawin to discover the MSV: Majesty which, when scanned, will point you towards the nearby planet (Xawin). Before you depart, consider making sure you have access to the Biotics such as Lift , Throw and Singularity , being able to disable your enemy will come in useful for the battle ahead.
Once you’re planetside, take a look at your map to discover the base can be found to the northwest so drive the Mako towards it and save your game. Once you approach the base, you’ll be assaulted by both Mercenaries and Turrets so keep moving while dealing with the Turrets first before using a well placed shot centered on the Mercenaries in front of the entrance and the two positioned behind the base. Once the area is cleared out, park the Mako and enter the facility.
(1 of 3) Keep your distance and use the Mako to deal with the Turrets around the base
Once you enter, be sure to save your game and then open the door to be rushed by a group of Mercenaries. Retreat back into the entrance room to tempt the Krogans into running towards you, then make use of Lift, Throw and Singularity to take them down, using the explosives in this room to aid in the destruction. Once they initial wave is down, you should be left with just two Snipers , make use of the nearby cover and finish them off to clear the area.
Head upstairs and open the crates for some loot, then make your way into the nearby room to discover a Secure Storage Locker (average), an Aid Station, a computer for a Codex entry and finally, Captain Willem’s body. Examine the body to update the Journal and then leave the facility and head back to the Normandy.
Talk to Garoth ¶
Make your way back to the Citadel and head to the Presidium Tower to find Garoth once more and deliver the bad news. As you deliver the news, you’ll have a few choices on how you respond:
- Saying “This must be hard on you.” will earn +2 Paragon .
- Saying “You were fooling yourself.” will earn +2 Renegade .

The majority of the Citadel sidequests are missable if you don't get through them before the lockdown segment. Return to the Citadel after each major story planet and see what's new. The lockdown segment occurs when you return to the Citadel after completing Virmire, so you may want to save that planet for last.
Most of these are decently-well known, though they can be missed, like it has happened to me during the first few times: Eden Prime has a lot of hidden containers tucked behind rocks or generally out-of-the-way places. with 4 pts of charm/intimidate and opening a shack near the Eden Prime spaceport, you can get some pretty good early game loot.
The following assignments have effects which carry over to the next games, and I strongly recommend completing them all: Citadel: The Fan. Citadel: The Fourth Estate. Citadel: Family Matter. Citadel: Asari Diplomacy. UNC: Hostile Takeover (the one with the gangs and Helena Blake) UNC: Missing Marines, Cerberus, Hades Dogs.
As it's been a year since this has been last posted (and with the LE coming out on Friday), here are links to the great checklists made by /u/Teryx (and ZimmMaster) way back when.. Mass Effect. Mass Effect 2. Mass Effect 3. If you've never played Mass Effect before, I would highly recommend NOT using these checklists unless you're looking for a collectible you've missed, a weapon you really ...

Note that this is not intended to be a walk-through in the ...
Assignments are the side missions of Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. These have little to no bearing to the overarching narrative, but completing them may further understanding of the series' underlying workings. There is a large variety of assignments to complete; this page is a list of them. Click on a specific assignment in the list to read its detailed walkthrough. For a list of missions ...
Mass Effect. What missions/quests are missable? Louisville15 14 years ago #1. I started playing the 360 version and I didn't finish some quests on Feros (fixing the water, food, etc) and was pissed when I found out you couldn't finish the quests once the main boss on that planet was beaten (no, I didn't kill the people either).

Garrus Vakarian is a missable squadmate in Mass Effect 1. In order to add him to your squad, you must complete the mission, Citadel: Garrus, which is added after your first visit to the Citadel.
SenorDingdong1. Without major spoilers, is there a guide for all missable content in a 100% run? MASS EFFECT 1. I'm wanting to do a 100% run on all 3 games once the remaster drops, but I also want the initial run through to be as natural as possible. The game plan if possible is to do the run completely normally while making sure there's no ...
That being said, Mass Effect 1, while being an outstading game, is still my least favorite in the series, and I don't want to do every single sidequest the game has to offer. I'm looking for sidequests/missions that are directly related to my party members.
Completionist. ME1: Complete the majority of the game. To earn this achievement, you must complete the majority of assignments and missions in the game. Missions you'll have to complete to get to the end of the game, but assignments are optional, and are the only missable part of this achievement… and mostly only because if you ignore said ...

This is Part 1 of 3 for the 100% Achievement Guide: Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. Part 1 only covers Mass Effect 1; Part 2 & Part 3 linked in the Conclusion of the guide covers Mass Effect 2 & 3 respectively. Is there Missable Assignments? MASS EFFECT 2. I 100% Mass Effect 1 yesterday and am about to start the 2nd Mass Effect but I want Tali in my party before I go do side assignments and exploration first. I know I need to do certain things first beforehand and that there is a Point of no return so I'm wondering if there is any missable ...
Mattheau 10 years ago #3. All the side quests are missable, but none of them are missable in a way that isn't insanely obvious. You can't do side quests on the main missions after you passed the part of the main mission where you do them. You can't complete the other side quests past a very obvious point of no return. pprincess 10 years ago #4.
ME1: Find all primary Alien: Council Races, Extinct Races and Non-Council Races codex entries. (5) (Missable) This is probably the easiest trophy to miss since you need to choose some Investigate conversation options in specific conversations. Only one race is really easy to miss though.
Step 1: Create a character. It is highly suggested that you use a soldier class for the ability to wear heavy armor and the increased damage and health. When assigning your skill points, focus on ...
Replaying ME1 throroughly for the first time in the ME legendary edition and I wanted to say that I appreciate you taking the time to properly format this message in the terminal. The extra effort made me smile, even 12 years later. I will see these missions through. Thanks for the heads up, Intel. ~ Ripley Shepard - out.
