Humorous Hypotheses: 19 Memes That Prove Science is a Laughing Matter
Alright, let's be elemental about this - some science questions can never be answered, like why the toast always lands butter-side down. Even so, we just can't help but feel a certain magnetism toward it. It's like being stuck in a gravity well of fascination and curiosity that's as compelling as Newton's apple. It's no rocket science - we just love it!
However, there's one scientific fact we can all agree on - science is awesome . It gives us that Eureka! moment, that sweet sense of satisfaction when the cogs finally align, the lightbulb flashes on, and suddenly, the universe just...clicks.
But let's not forget, science isn't just about serious calculations and complex formulas. It also has its lighter side, one that can have you chuckling in your lab coat. That's why we've concocted a mixture of 19 science memes , each carefully distilled to tickle your funny bone and prove that even science has a sense of humor. So strap on your safety goggles, secure your lab coats, and prepare for a big bang of hilarity!

If you want to create a research hypothesis quickly, you should fill out the research details in the given fields on the hypothesis generator.
Below are the fields you should complete to generate your hypothesis:
- Who or what is your research based on? For instance, the subject can be research group 1.
- What does the subject (research group 1) do?
- What does the subject affect? - This shows the predicted outcome, which is the object.
- Who or what will be compared with research group 1? (research group 2).
Once you fill the in the fields, you can click the ‘Make a hypothesis’ tab and get your results.
⚗️ What Is a Hypothesis in the Scientific Method?
A hypothesis is a statement describing an expectation or prediction of your research through observation.
It is similar to academic speculation and reasoning that discloses the outcome of your scientific test . An effective hypothesis, therefore, should be crafted carefully and with precision.
A good hypothesis should have dependent and independent variables . These variables are the elements you will test in your research method – it can be a concept, an event, or an object as long as it is observable.
You can observe the dependent variables while the independent variables keep changing during the experiment.
In a nutshell, a hypothesis directs and organizes the research methods you will use, forming a large section of research paper writing.
Hypothesis vs. Theory
A hypothesis is a realistic expectation that researchers make before any investigation. It is formulated and tested to prove whether the statement is true. A theory, on the other hand, is a factual principle supported by evidence. Thus, a theory is more fact-backed compared to a hypothesis.
Another difference is that a hypothesis is presented as a single statement , while a theory can be an assortment of things . Hypotheses are based on future possibilities toward a specific projection, but the results are uncertain. Theories are verified with undisputable results because of proper substantiation.
When it comes to data, a hypothesis relies on limited information , while a theory is established on an extensive data set tested on various conditions.
You should observe the stated assumption to prove its accuracy.
Since hypotheses have observable variables, their outcome is usually based on a specific occurrence. Conversely, theories are grounded on a general principle involving multiple experiments and research tests.
This general principle can apply to many specific cases.
The primary purpose of formulating a hypothesis is to present a tentative prediction for researchers to explore further through tests and observations. Theories, in their turn, aim to explain plausible occurrences in the form of a scientific study.
It would help to rely on several criteria to establish a good hypothesis. Below are the parameters you should use to analyze the quality of your hypothesis.
🧭 6 Steps to Making a Good Hypothesis
Writing a hypothesis becomes way simpler if you follow a tried-and-tested algorithm. Let’s explore how you can formulate a good hypothesis in a few steps:
Step #1: Ask Questions
The first step in hypothesis creation is asking real questions about the surrounding reality.
Why do things happen as they do? What are the causes of some occurrences?
Your curiosity will trigger great questions that you can use to formulate a stellar hypothesis. So, ensure you pick a research topic of interest to scrutinize the world’s phenomena, processes, and events.
Step #2: Do Initial Research
Carry out preliminary research and gather essential background information about your topic of choice.
The extent of the information you collect will depend on what you want to prove.
Your initial research can be complete with a few academic books or a simple Internet search for quick answers with relevant statistics.
Still, keep in mind that in this phase, it is too early to prove or disapprove of your hypothesis.
Step #3: Identify Your Variables
Now that you have a basic understanding of the topic, choose the dependent and independent variables.
Take note that independent variables are the ones you can’t control, so understand the limitations of your test before settling on a final hypothesis.
Step #4: Formulate Your Hypothesis
You can write your hypothesis as an ‘if – then’ expression . Presenting any hypothesis in this format is reliable since it describes the cause-and-effect you want to test.
For instance: If I study every day, then I will get good grades.
Step #5: Gather Relevant Data
Once you have identified your variables and formulated the hypothesis, you can start the experiment. Remember, the conclusion you make will be a proof or rebuttal of your initial assumption.
So, gather relevant information, whether for a simple or statistical hypothesis, because you need to back your statement.
Step #6: Record Your Findings
Finally, write down your conclusions in a research paper .
Outline in detail whether the test has proved or disproved your hypothesis.
Edit and proofread your work, using a plagiarism checker to ensure the authenticity of your text.
We hope that the above tips will be useful for you. Note that if you need to conduct business analysis, you can use the free templates we’ve prepared: SWOT , PESTLE , VRIO , SOAR , and Porter’s 5 Forces .

Meme Mania is Back: Buy these 3 Stocks
Meme Mania: COVID-19 was the Perfect Storm
The 2020 U.S. equity crash and subsequent rebound was the perfect storm for a unique event called the “Meme” stock craze. After the panic lows of March 2020, stocks bottomed, and the government started to pump liquidity into the market and everyday Americans with stimulus checks. With many people working remotely, confined to their homes, and with more money in their pockets, Americans started trading in the stock market.
By 2021, a message board called “Wallstreetbets” gained a cult-like following on the social media website Reddit. At the center of the Wallstreetbets subcategory was a GameStop ( ( GME Quick Quote GME - Free Report ) ) investor named Keith Gill, better known by his handle “Roaring Kitty.” Gill made the astute observation that big institutional investors were heavily short GME shares and decided to band together a hoard of retail investors to orchestrate a classic short squeeze. The plan worked. In January 2021, GME shares gained over 1600% in a single month!
“Roaring Kitty” is Back
Monday morning, Roaring Kitty tweeted an image of a person sitting forward in a chair – a meme that signifies “things are getting serious.” GME shares gained more than 100% based on the tweet. So much for the efficient market hypothesis! Meanwhile, other former meme stock favorites such as AMC ( ( AMC Quick Quote AMC - Free Report ) ), Beyond ( ( BYON Quick Quote BYON - Free Report ) ), and Upstart Holdings ( ( UPST Quick Quote UPST - Free Report ) ) spiked in sympathy.
Meme Craze Lessons
Trading meme stocks is not for everyone. Below are 3 essential lessons to consider:
“Markets can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent”: Though the fundamental reason for such moves is obviously questionable, it doesn’t mean these stocks can’t move higher.
When music stops, it can get ugly : As fast as stocks move higher, they can also move lower. GME plunged nearly 70% in February 2021.
Expect Hyper Volatility: With so many investors watching the same stocks, higher volatility is a given.
3 Meme Stocks Worth Considering
Though GME is the king of meme stocks, it is also likely to be the most volatile. Instead of chasing meme stocks with no fundamentals or catalysts, I prefer to do the opposite. Below are 3 meme stocks to consider:
Novavax ( ( NVAX Quick Quote NVAX - Free Report ) )
Last week, NVAX shares doubled on volume 2,000x the norm after the company announced a deal with biotechgiant Sanofi (SNY) toco-commercialize a COVID-19 vaccine and develop novel COVID-19-Influenza combination vaccines. The deal is a game changer for the company for 3 reasons.
1. Cash Injection: NVAX will get cash and equity worth ~$1.2 billion. (NVAX market cap is just $1.69 billion)
2. SNY Stake: Sanofi will take a minority equity investment in the stock. Perhaps the company will buy more NVAX in the future.
3. Distribution: A deal with a biotech juggernaut like SNY provides NVAX with distribution.
Reddit ( ( RDDT Quick Quote RDDT - Free Report ) )
Social media giant RDDT recently went public. RDDT stands to benefit from increased traffic from meme stock mania indirectly. More importantly, RDDT is likely to benefit immensely from the AI revolution. Because of RDDT’s immense popularity, the website is perfect for “training” large language models such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT. RDDT recently scored a $60 million annual licensing deal with Alphabet ( ( GOOGL Quick Quote GOOGL - Free Report ) ) to train its large language models. As the race for AI supremacy heats up, RDDT will likely cash in on more licensing deals.RDDT is currently forming a classic and bullish IPO “U-turn” base structure.
Tesla ( ( TSLA Quick Quote TSLA - Free Report ) )
TSLA is one of the original meme stocks, which went from $23 to over $400 during the first meme stock craze. The stock has the perfect recipe for a run. It continues to be heavily shorted, has several catalysts ahead (like the Cybertruck rollout), and has a bargain base valuation.
Bottom Line
Monday’s market action tells us that meme stocks are back in play. However, because not all meme stocks are created equally, investors should focus on those with fundamental catalysts.

The description in the meme is incorrect because it conflates P(data|hypothesis) with P(hypothesis|data). P = 0.95 does not at all mean that there is a 95% probability that the null hypothesis is true, it is easy to get such high p-values when the null is false, for example when the true parameter is very close to the hypothesized value and the sample size is small.
