blood-donation

blood donation

donating blood regularly is safe

Background: College students form a large, healthy, and active population of potential blood donors; their recruitment and retention would immensely help meet the demand of safe blood. The knowledge and practice of blood donation among students are reportedly diverse. In Nepal, medical students donate more and are more knowledgeable than non-medical, students but there could be differences between medical students of different colleges. Voluntary blood donation (VBD) is the foundation of blood safety and safe transfusion methods. It is vital to boost volunteer donor recruitment and retention to ensure a long-term safe blood transfusion practice, especially among university students. The goal was to evaluate Khulna University students' blood donation knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) as well as associated factors. A cross-sectional study was conducted at Khulna University in April 2022. Using simple random sampling (SRS), 400 face-to-face interviews were taken, of which 394 records were used for further analysis. A Chi-square test was used to check the association between KAP toward VBD, and binary logistic regression was applied to identify the association between explanatory and outcome variables. The logistic regression reveals that students with good knowledge about VBD are associated with permanent residence (OR: 1.651; 95% CI: 1.028, 2.650) and education (OR: 1.746; 95% CI: 1.012, 3.014). Introduction: Advances in healthcare require adequate quantities of safe blood, which can be obtained by regular voluntary blood donation. The college-going students constitute a healthy pool of potential donors. This study was conducted to explore the knowledge, attitudes and practices of blood donation in undergraduate medical students, so that the existing lacunae in the system may be identified and remedied. Materials and Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 388 undergraduate medical students, using a structured questionnaire which contained both close and open-ended questions on attitudes and practices. Knowledge was assessed by interview by a single observer. Results: Only 18.04% students had donated blood. Gender was found to be insignificant and socioeconomic status (p=0.00004) and knowledge about donation (p<0.00001) were found to have a highly significant effect on blood donation. Voluntary donors donating for altruism constituted 82.9%. Commonest reasons for non-donation included deferrals (40.3%), apathy (35.8%) and fear (17.9%). Deferrals were due to anaemia (37.4%) and inadequate weight (2.8%), almost exclusively in females. Misconceptions related to pain (6.3%), increased rate of infections (6.0%), decreased immunity (0.6%) and syncope (0.6%) were prevalent. Non-donors felt that blood donations were risky (p=0.0261) and perceived a higher degree of risk than donors (p=0.0018). Only 0.6% of the donors were regular donors while 74.3% of donors had donated only once. Blood donation camps were the most important source of knowledge and motivation (34.3%) and all voluntary donors had donated therein. The donation experience was considered good by 58.6% students. To promote donation, non-donors advocated provision of incentives (p=0.00016), which included free replacement of blood for family or friends (35.6%) and free blood tests (29.4%). Conclusions: It is essential to create awareness among medical students and organize blood donation camps to increased recruitment and retention of voluntary donors. This will help attain the goal of 100% voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation laid down by the WHO.

Background: Young, healthy and physically fit students can play a vital role in blood donation. Youth constitute a good proportion of the Kashmiri population so it is very important that we encourage, inspire and motivate them to donate blood on regular basis voluntarily rather than on need basis. The present study was conducted in Kashmir valley to assess the University student’s awareness and attitude towards blood donation. Material and Methods: In this cross sectional study, 800 University students selected at random from various Universities of Kashmir valley using stratified random sampling technique were evaluated using a well-designed validated questionnaire. The information collected on socio-demographic variables, knowledge and attitude of students towards blood donation was assessed using appropriate statistical tools. Results: A total of 800 students, 50% boys and 50% girls were evaluated in present study. The results of our study showed that only (5.5%) of total respondents had a history of blood donation and out of these respondents 90% respondents donate only once. The study reveals that the most mentioned reasons behind not donating blood were; not being asked to donate blood (43.5%); inconsideration of donation (29.5%) and fear of drawing blood (27.0%). The study also revealed that 53.5% students had adequate knowledge regarding blood donation and 93.5% students understudy showed positive attitude towards blood donation. The male students were more knowledgeable and showed more interest in donating blood than female respondents. Conclusion: The current study showed that inadequate knowledge was prevalent among substantial proportion of University students in Kashmir valley, and there was a significant disparity in Knowledge between male and female students. The study further, showed despite the positive attitude of students towards blood donation, only 5.5% students had history of blood donation. Blood Donation Essay

Blood is necessary for the body's effective functioning. Large amounts of blood loss can lead to fatal illnesses. Blood donation is the practice of giving blood to others in order to aid them in dealing with their medical issues. It represents humanity. Here are a few sample essays on blood donations.

100 Words Essay On Blood Donation

200 words essay on blood donation, 500 words essay on blood donation.

Blood Donation Essay

Giving blood is all about giving the gift of life to others. The donation of blood for medicinal and scientific purposes is the goal of voluntary blood donation. Every donor must undergo a medical examination since blood is a vital component of your body, which helps to prevent the spread of infectious illnesses during transfusions. One pint of blood, or one-tenth the amount an adult keeps in their body, is the maximum amount that a typical donor is permitted to donate at once. One pint is enough blood to save three lives. Blood donation is an essential component of medicine since roughly one in three people on the earth require blood transfusions at some point in their lives.

Blood Donor Day is celebrated on June 14 to create awareness of the universal need for blood for health care and to thank every individual who donates blood. Most notably, the WHO sponsors a campaign on this day to encourage people to give blood. A person must be between the age of 17 and 66 in order to be eligible to give blood. They must be in good health and weigh at least 50 kg. Diseases including diabetes, hypertension, and others prevent some people from giving blood.

My Uncle's Story

You do not have to be a fireman or a doctor to save a life, it is just as easy as donating blood. My uncle had once gotten into a bad accident, lost a lot of blood because of it, and urgently needed blood for his surgery. No one from my family was a match, so we all contacted our friends for help. After a few hours of struggling to find a donor, my brother's friend came to help. It was because of him that that day my uncle went into surgery timely and today is living a healthy and beautiful life. My whole family praised my brother’s friend and thanked him for his generosity.

The simplest acts have the capability of having the largest impact. Blood that is donated is used to treat patients with a variety of medical conditions such as blood disorders, cancer and anaemia or to help replace the blood lost from patients during surgery. Each donation is split into its components, these being red blood cells, platelets and plasma, meaning that each individual patient can be given the component that they require in order to help them to recover. This means that every donation is put to its best use and each donor has therefore given the most that they can through one donation.

Why Should You Donate Blood?

You should never hesitate to donate blood because it is primarily done to save lives. It represents humanity. It is blind to the blood donor's caste, creed, or religion. The organs of our body perform a variety of tasks, and in order to do so, these organs require oxygen and energy. The blood that flows in our body provides oxygen and energy. Therefore, blood from an outside source is needed when an organ fails to perform a certain function and hence blood donation is required to save lives.

Benefits Of Blood Donation

People who donate blood to blood banks serve a very noble humanitarian cause irrespective of caste/ creed/ religion or gender. There are many advantages to donating blood.

The most important benefit is that you are saving someone’s life. The blood donated can be used three times because it is sectioned into various components. It revitalises the fragile health condition of a human being. The human body is capable of regenerating blood within a few hours after donation.

The risk of cancer such as the liver, lung, and colon can be reduced by constant blood donation. This is because the iron stored in the body is maintained at a healthy level.

Every donor has to go through a physical test to analyse whether they are eligible to donate blood. This health checkup helps in knowing your own body like pressure level, haemoglobin, iron and sugar level. It is also tested for HIV, hepatitis, and other diseases.

The most powerful health benefit is psychological. When you know that the blood that you are donating will be used somewhere to save someone’s life, it gives you a sense of immense pride.

There are blood banks where people can store their blood, and that blood is used in case of a medical emergency. It is advised that people with rare blood types deposit their blood in blood banks for future needs. The need for blood is always greater than the supply, hence more encouragement should be given to individuals so they would voluntarily donate blood and save lives.

Today, it is crucial to raise awareness of the benefits of blood donation and the need for people to appreciate life. Several NGOs are working towards spreading awareness on blood donation which might save anyone's life. Their primary goal is to encourage individuals to give blood and to let them know how important what they have done is.

Rare blood wastage: Donors blame private hospitals in Tamil Nadu

Image used for representational purposes only

CHENNAI: The preference of private hospitals to use freshly-donated blood rather than blood stored in government-run blood banks is resulting in wastage, especially of rare phenotypes, as the stored units end up being discarded after expiration. Government doctors attribute this to the fear of private hospitals that the stored blood would not have been properly screened for diseases.

On April 24, the staff at the Government Villupuram Medical College Hospital were forced to discard one unit of blood of the rare ‘hh’ type after it expired even though a private hospital in Vellore had needed blood from the group earlier in the month.

Blood donors alleged that the private hospital opted to take fresh blood from a donor rather than use the banked blood.

Only one in 7,600 to 10,000 people in India has blood belonging to the ‘hh’ group, commonly known as the Bombay blood group.

“At least three units of Bombay blood group are wasted each year. This unit of blood could have been utilised if the private medical college hospital in Vellore had accepted it this month when there was a need. Instead they chose to find a fresh donor,” said Srivatsav Vema, a member of the volunteer-run Platelet Club.

Private hospitals ask for blood donors, not banked blood, says medical officer

“There have been multiple instances of two private hospitals, including one in Chennai, refusing to take donated blood already in stock, even if it is a rare group,” Vema added.

Asked why the Villupuram government facility discarded the unit of rare blood, a doctor there said the staff had reached out to many hospitals asking them to take it as it was nearing expiration. “But nobody came forward and it eventually expired,” the doctor added.

A medical officer in a government blood bank said that private hospitals prefer asking for blood donors rather than banked blood as they seem to believe the stored blood may not have been screened properly. “We screen donated blood for HIV, Hepatitis B and C, malaria and other illnesses but many private hospitals feel this might have not done properly,” the doctor added. “Every time they reach out with a request, I ask them if they want a donor or blood. They always prefer donors, “ the doctor added.

Speaking to TNIE, a senior official with the Tamil Nadu State Blood Transfusion Council said, “When we find that the blood of a donor belongs to a rare group, the blood is stored. Mostly it will not be wasted, as we transfer it to different parts of the country when there is a need. A group of volunteers on a WhatsApp group do this. But, we cannot avoid wasting one or two units,” he added.

According to doctors, the shelf life of whole blood is 35 days, platelets five days, plasma one year and red blood cells 35 days. Officials added that a list of donors with rare blood groups is maintained so that when there is a requirement, the donor can be asked to give up blood.

Vema, said the government should update the e-RaktKosh website, a centralised blood bank management system for proper utilisation of blood units. As this is not being done regularly, there is no account of available units or expiry dates. He added that in the last four months alone, 58 units of blood from the Bombay blood group were transferred to other places, including Bangladesh.

What is the best essay writer?

The team EssaysWriting has extensive experience working with highly qualified specialists, so we know who is ideal for the role of the author of essays and scientific papers:

  • Easy to communicate. Yes, this point may seem strange to you, but believe me, as a person communicates with people, he manifests himself in the texts. The best essay writer should convey the idea easily and smoothly, without overloading the text or making it messy.
  • Extensive work experience. To start making interesting writing, you need to write a lot every day. This practice is used by all popular authors for books, magazines and forum articles. When you read an essay, you immediately understand how long a person has been working in this area.
  • Education. The ideal writer should have a philological education or at least take language courses. Spelling and punctuation errors are not allowed in the text, and the meaning should fit the given topic.

Such essay writers work in our team, so you don't have to worry about your order. We make texts of the highest level and apply for the title of leaders in this complex business.
