Global Korea Scholarship 2025-2026 also known as Korean Government Scholarship is a fully funded scholarship for international students. This scholarship is available for undergraduate, masters and PhD studies and provides full free tuition support, monthly living allowance, on-campus housing, medical coverage and relocation support.

The aim of this scholarship is to promote international educational exchange and friendship between countries by providing foreign students with the opportunity to study at Korean higher education institutions.

Fields are not limited, all candidates would get plenty of options to pursue their careers. There are two ways to apply for this scholarship, either submitting their documents to the Korean Embassy of their country or directly to the domestic university of Korea.

South Korean universities are acknowledged and held in high esteem globally for a world-class education. There are several prestigious institutions, and most of them are in Seoul. Korean universities are in demand by companies all over the world. Therefore, after completing your education, you can search for jobs in various industries.

Deadline for Global Korea Scholarship

Scholarship Coverage

Global Korea Scholarship provides the recipient with the following benefits:

• Airfare (Return Air Ticket)
• Settlement Allowance: 200,000 KRW (offered once after entry to Korea)
• Monthly Allowance: (Degree Program) 900,000 KRW per month, (Research Program) 1,500,000 KRW per month
• Liberal Arts and Social Science majors: 210,000 KRW per semester
• Natural Science and Engineering majors: 240,000 KRW per semester
• 1-Year Korean Language Training Fee: Fully covered
• Degree Program Tuition: Fully covered
• Paper printing fee: 500,000 ~ 800,000 KRW
• Medical Insurance will be covered.
• Korean Proficiency Grants: 100,000 KRW per month

Eligibility Criteria for Global Korea Scholarship

To qualify for this scholarship, candidate must fulfill all of the following requirements below:

• Required Languages:  English  / Korean
• Eligible Countries: All world countries except Korean nationals.

1) Undergraduate Course:

• Those who are under 25 years of age as of March 1st of the selection year
• Those who have (expected to) complete all elementary, middle, and high school curriculum as of March 1st of the selection year

2) Graduate Course:

• Those who are under 40 years of age as of September 1st of the selection year
• Those who have earned a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree as of February 28th of the selection year
• Those who are current professors from ODA recipient countries among the invited countries and are under 45 years of age as of September 1st of the selection year

3) Other Requirements:

• Those who are healthy both mentally and physically to be able to study abroad in Korea for a long period of time
• Those who have a grade point average (GPA) of 80% or higher for all grades in the last school attended
• Those who are currently enrolled in or have graduated from a university or graduate school in Korea are not eligible to apply.

How to Apply for Global Korea Scholarship?

Please follow the following steps to avail this scholarship:

• While applying to the Korean embassy, a candidate needs to dispatch original or attested documents to the embassy.
• On the other hand, applying directly to the university requires a candidate to submit all documents to the domestic university.
• An applicant applying via the embassy can apply to 3 universities whereas an applicant applying directly to the university can apply only to 1 university.
• Students passing round two of the Embassy track process should not consider it the final selection.

Program Overview

The Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) is designed to provide international students with opportunities to study at higher education institutions in Korea for undergraduate and graduate studies, which will enhance international education exchange and deepen mutual friendship between Korea and participating countries.

Qualifications

Undergraduate Program

Selsction Procedure

Graduate and undergraduate program, 1st round of selection.

Applicants submit their applications either to Korean Embassies in their home countries or Korean universities designated by NIIED. Each embassy and university selects the successful candidates among the applicants based on NIIED’s selection criteria.

2nd Round of Selection

The NIIED selection committee conducts the 2nd round of selection among candidates that pass the 1st round of selection.

3rd Round of Selection

(Embassy Track Applicants ONLY) The applications of the 2nd round successful candidates will be reviewed by the universities for admission. The candidates must receive admission from at least one of the universities they applied in order to be selected as GKS scholars.

Final Result Release

The announcement of finally selected GKS scholars (3rd round successful candidates of embassy track and 2nd round successful candidates of university track) will be made.

• You can choose one of the Tracks, Embassy and University track to be accepted to Korea University before you apply.
• Embassy Track : You should contact your Embassy directly not us. It's separate from the University Track.
• University Track (to Korea University) : The guideline is like the below.

Admission Schedule

• Period of application : during February
• Acceptance Announcement : June, 2021 by NIIED (expected)
• The application notice will be updated in early February.

Application Guideline

• Guideline will be noticed Early Feb. each year.
• Not Eligible : those who are pregnant (disqualified upon discovery)
• GKS awardees cannot bring their family including spouses during the Korean language course before the degree program.
• TOPIK level 4 is mandatory for graduation from the post-graduate program in KU.
• Apostille or consul verified (stamped) degree certificate should be additionally and directly submitted to Korea University after your admission decision before you begin the post-graduate program in KU. You should get your diploma(or degree certificate) by Aug. 2021.

Field of study.

• We will select up to 25 candidates from all the quota-assigned countries and recommend them to NIIED. We can recommend up to 4 candidates from a single country.
• Students can apply for a single major of one department.

Korean Language Institution

• NIIED has designated about 10 language institutions for the Korean language course. The main language institution placement principle is different from Korea University to provide a chance of exploring variable Korean cultures and immersion on Korean language learning with professional environments for scholars. Korean Language institute will be arranged by NIIED. It is not located in Seoul. GKS(KGSP) awardees should pass TOPIK level 3 during the Korean Language course before the degree program. And, GKS(KGSP) awardees must stay in dormitory during the Korean Language course.
• If applicants miss the deadline of university recommendation, there is another opportunity to get recommendation by Korean Embassy for GKS. Please contact Korean Embassy in your home country in person. But, Chinese should contact CSC instead of Korean Embassy. Applicants for GKS(KGSP) need to choose either recommendation by university or recommendation by Korean Embassy.

• Monthly Allowance : 1,000,000 KRW per month Research Allowance : 210,000 KRW for scholars in the field of humanities and social sciences; 240,000 KRW for scholars in natural and mechanic sciences
• Settlement Allowance : 200,000 KRW upon arrival
• Language Training Fee : Full coverage
• Tuition : All admission fees are waived by the host institution (university) The tuition is covered by NIIED and the university.
• Dissertation Printing Costs : Reimbursement of 500,000 ~ 800,000 KRW depending on actual costs
• Medical Insurance : 20,000 KRW per month (limited coverage)
• Korean Proficiency Grants : 100,000 KRW per month for scholars with TOPIK Level 5 or 6
• Monthly Allowance : 900,000 KRW per month
• Tuition : All admission fees are waived by the host institution (university)
• The tuition is covered by NIIED and the university.

1. Global Korea Scholarship Program

This scholarship is offered to international students who want to pursue higher studies in undergraduate and graduate programmes at the institutions of the Republic of Korea. Eligible candidates can apply for a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctoral degree programmes under this program.

Eligibility:

• The applicants must not hold Korean citizenship.
• The candidates must be below 25 years at the date of joining (undergraduate).
• The applicants must have secured 80% or more marks in the last attended educational institution [CGPA: 2.64/4.0 or 2.80/4.3 or 2.91/4.5, or 3.23/5.0].
• The candidates must be in good physical and mental health.
• The students must have a minimum of 16 and 18 years of formal education to apply for PG and PhD courses.

The selected candidates will receive the following benefits under this program:

• Fully-funded scholarship
• Resettlement Allowance of KRW* 200,000
• Living Allowance of 900,000 KRW to 1,000,000 KRW
• Language Courses costing KRW 800,000 per quarter
• Medical Insurance of KRW 20,000 per month

*KRW refers to South Korean Won.

Eligibility as per Program:

• The applicants must be l ess than 45 years of age.
• The students must be bachelor’s or equivalent degree holders.
• The applicants must be less than 40 years of age.
• The students must hold master’s or equivalent degree.
• The applicants must be less than 45 years of age.
• The students must hold an invitation from one of the National Institute of International Education (NIIED) designated Korean university.
• For Post-Doctoral Research Program: The applicants must hold a d octoral degree or equivalent education.
• For Professor Exchange Program: The applicants must hold a m aster’s degree or equivalent education.
• For Program for Education, Science, Culture(International Professionals): The applicants must hold a m aster’s degree or equivalent education.

Scholarship Duration:

• Associate Degree – 3 to 4 years including 1 year of Korean language programme
• Bachelor’s Degree – 5 to 7 years including 1 year of Korean language programme

The applicants are required to submit/upload the following documents to apply for the program:

• Class 10 and 12 marksheets and certificates

2. Korean Government Support Program for Foreign Exchange Students

This scheme is offered to international exchange students where nearly 200 foreign students can avail of the scholarship. Only hardworking, talented and deserving students from the selected country/countries will be awarded financial aid. National Institute for International Education (NIIED) is the institute offering this scholarship programme to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. 

• The students must have excellent academic and school record.
• The candidates must have secured 80% or more marks (out of 100%) in the last attended educational institution 
• The applicants must have completed at least two semesters.

The selected candidates will receive the following benefits

• Resettlement Allowance of KRW 200,000
• Reimbursement amount within the set amount
• For 1 term – 4 months
• For 2 terms – 10 months

3. Seoul National University Scholarship 

Seoul National University (SNU) Scholarship is a fully-funded scholarship that is offered to international students (including Indians) to pursue a Master’s, MPhil, PhD and MS leading to PhD degree for Spring session 2024.

• The applicants should n ot hold Korean citizenship.
• The candidates must have excellent academic and school record.
• The applicants must have secured 80% or more marks (out of 100%) in the last attended educational institution.
• The students must be in good physical and mental health.
• The applicants must hold a master’s degree or higher (for Doctorate).
• The candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher (for Master’s/Combined Master’s & Doctoral).

The selected candidates will receive the following benefits:

• Fully-funded scholarship (tuition fee exempted for a maximum of 8 semesters)
• Resettlement Allowance 
• Stipend for 2 years
• Medical Insurance 
• Bachelor’s Degree – 4 years including 1 year of Korean language programme  
• Graduate Degree – 5 years including 1 year of Korean language programme

4. KAIST Scholarship 

Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) Scholarship is an amazing opportunity for Indian undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students who want to avail advanced education in Science and Technology and make progress in entrepreneurship, research and globalisation. 

• The applicants must n ot hold Korean citizenship or dual citizenship. 
• The students must have a high school diploma or degree from their home country’s institutes.  

Note: Students obtaining a TOPIK score of 5 or more are exempt from taking the 1-year language course.

The selected candidates will receive the following benefits upon selection:

• Fully-funded scholarship (tuition fee exempted for a maximum of 8 semesters for PhD and 4 semesters for Masters)
• Monthly living allowances of KRW 350,000
• Medical Insurance (free National Health Insurance)
• Bachelor’s Degree – 4 years including 1 year of Korean language programme
• Master’s Degree –   3 years including 1 year of Korean language programme
• Doctoral degree – 4 years including 1 year of Korean language programme

• From 1st September to 23rd October (For Early Admissions)
• From 9th November to 8th January (For Regular Admissions)

5. KGSP Scholarship 

The Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) is an initiative that is jointly designed by the Korean Government and the Government of India. This scholarship program offers fully-funded scholarships to Indian students. Under this scholarship, students pursuing graduation, postgraduate and doctorate-level courses can avail of financial aid to pursue advanced education.

• The candidates must n ot hold Korean citizenship or dual citizenship.
• The applicants must not have excellent academic and school record.
• The candidates must be below 25 years of age (for UG degree).
• The students must be below 40 years of age (for graduate degree).
• The candidates must have secured more than 80% of CGPA.
• The applicants must be in good physical and mental health.
• Fully-funded scholarship (up to KRW 5,000,000 per semester)
• Airfare expenses of grantees 
• Resettlement Allowance (up to KRW 20,000)
• KRW 100,000 award to be given to students after degree completion 
• Master’s Degree – 2 years including 1 year of Korean language programme
• Doctoral degree – 3 years including 1 year of Korean language programme

As the Korean Government Scholarship Program is announced once a year, there are no specific scholarship registration dates.

Korean Scholarship 2024 – Other Details

• Universities oriented towards international students conduct 30% of their lectures in the English language.
• Compared to undergraduate courses, most of the lectures for graduate programmes are conducted in English.
• Students are advised to enrol in the Korean language to attain maximum information about their course. The scholarship award also covers language training courses.
• Applicants submitting the scholarship application forms must fill it in either Korean or English to avoid registration cancellation.
• All original documents are required to be submitted. In case students want to submit photocopies of their documents, those must be certified.

Korean Scholarship 2024 — How to Apply?

After fulfilling the eligibility criteria of any of the above-mentioned Korean scholarship programmes, candidates can apply for it online through the Sakshat portal of MHRD . The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) is the nominating agency in India for the Korean Government scholarship program. Also, a student needs to send the hard copy of the completed application form along with the required documents to MHRD. A step-by-step description of the application process is mentioned hereunder –

Step 1: Visit the official website of the Sakshat portal of MHRD .

Step 2: Select ‘Korean Government Scholarship Program’ and click on the apply button.

Step 3: Fill in the application form.

Step 4: Attach all supporting documents.

Step 5: Submit the online application.

Step 6: After successful submission of the online application, download the application prescribed by the Korean government from its official website.

Step 7: Fill in all necessary details and attach the supporting documents.

Korean Scholarship 2024 — Selection Procedure

The initial shortlisting of the applications for the Korean scholarship program is done by the MHRD. A merit list is prepared of all the applications received. The weightage is given to institutions of national importance/ centrally funded educational institutions (CEFIs) and NAAC-accredited institutions from where the applicants have completed or are pursuing their qualifying examination. A total of 15 applications are shortlisted which are further sent for nominations to the Korean Government. Thereafter, the Korean Government shortlists only 10 nominations for the award of scholarship.

2024 Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) for Graduate Degrees

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in New Delhi is pleased to announce the “2024 Global Korea Scholarship” for Indian students to pursue their Graduate Degree in Korea.

Qualified Indian students can apply for the scholarship through the ‘Embassy Track’ and must submit their application to the Korean Embassy in New Delhi.

Those who wish to apply for 2024 Global Korea Scholarship must read the complete guidelines and eligibility criteria carefully and thoroughly before applying for scholarship.

KAIST South Korean Scholarships 2023: BS, MS, PHD Scholarship in South Korea

The KAIST South Korean Scholarships 2023 is now accepting online applications from international students for the academic year 2023. The GKS program is designed to provide higher education opportunities in South Korea for international students with the aim of promoting international exchange in education and learning as well as mutual friendship amongst the participating countries.

There are two tracks to apply for the scholarship program, the Embassy track, and the University track:

• Applicants must apply either to a Korean Embassy where they hold citizenship or to one of the enlisted universities
• Before you apply, please read the attached guideline carefully to find the right track for you.

Global Korea Scholarship is designed to provide international students with opportunities to study at higher educational institutions in Korea for graduate-level degrees, which will enhance international education exchange and deepen mutual friendship between Korea and participating countries.

2023 KAIST Scholarships Eligibility

All applicants and their parents must not hold Korean citizenship.

• Korean citizens and dual citizenship holders (one who has Korean citizenship and citizenship of another country) are NOT eligible to apply.
• Applicants and their parents who had previously held Korean citizenship must submit the document that proves their renunciation of Korean citizenship.
• Must be under 40 years of age as of September 1, 2023 (born after September 1, 1982)
• Academic professors who are under 45 years of age as of September 1, 2023 (born after September 1, 1976)
• Applicants must hold or must be expected to hold a Bachelor‟s, Master‟s, or Doctoral degree by August 31st, 2023.
• All applicants must be in good health, both mentally and physically, to study in Korea for the full duration of degree or research programs.

Who is Eligible to Apply for the Undergraduate Program as an International Student?

International candidates for the EARLY track must meet all of the following requirements:

1) Spring 2023 (EARLY only)

>> Applicants who have graduated or will graduate from high school by  August 28th, 2023 .

2) Fall 2023 (EARLY / REGULAR / LATE)

>> Applicants who have graduated or will graduate from high school by  August 31st, 2023 .

3) He or she is not a citizen of Korea.

* Korean citizens who hold  dual citizenship are not eligible  to apply as foreign students.

※ Note: International applicants whose parents were born in Korea MUST read the instructions below.

Following is the complete document checklist required to apply for the scholarship :

All application documents must be written either in Korean or English.

• Documents written in languages other than Korean or English must accompany a complete Korean or English translation, authenticated by the issuing institution, or notarized by a notary public.
• All application documents must be presented in their original forms. If an applicant has to submit photocopied documents, the applicant MUST have the photocopies notarized, apostilled, or receive consular confirmation and submit those certified documents.
