Excellent Product! Review by Debbie
We ordered this “Save the Date” holiday party card and it was exactly what we were hoping for in an invite. A few of our guest responses even shared how adorable the invite was for our upcoming holiday party! We will definitely use this company again in the future!
Great quality!! Review by Niki
Beautiful color and great quality. I was very impressed with the weight and feel of the paper. It’s almost soft and flexible, doesn’t look like it will get messed up in the mail at all. Beautifully crafted, came out just how I wanted them and the box said they put a few extra cards and envelopes in, thought that was a nice touch. Arrived in a timely manner.
Wonderful Review by Amy
Invitations look better than I thought- so happy we went with Basic Invite!

Graduation announcement wording and etiquette
April 1, 2024
Graduation is a good circumstance to exercise a little pomp. Graduation announcements are a timeless way of showing off academic accomplishments and, like other cards for milestone events, an easy way to keep in touch with friends and family who might otherwise fall off your social agenda. As the way we communicate changes, some rules for graduation announcement wording and etiquette have modernized and some remain steadfast.
“ Quadrata ” by Paperless Post.
Table of Contents
When to send graduation announcements
Plan to send a graduation announcement roughly two weeks before the commencement ceremony or up to 6 weeks after to let all your friends and loved ones know of your grad’s accomplishments. That way, you’ll give plenty of time to your recipients to respond with a card of their own, if they like, and maybe even a gift for your hard-working scholar. (By the way—if you’re looking for a graduation invitation, we have those, too .)
How to write graduation announcement wording
You don’t need to do any voluminous writing here—just focus on the key details: the graduate’s name, class year, and school. Feel free to include a personal touch, like an inspiring quotation the grad likes, or words of gratitude or congratulations, too. If you have a senior portrait or a treasured photo from their time at school, by all means, include it.
Who to send graduation announcements to
A good starting point for your graduation announcements mailing list is anyone you’d send a holiday card to—close friends, extended family, and important acquaintances. You may also consider important teachers, tutors, mentors, counselors, and scholastic colleagues for the mailing, as well. It takes a village, as they say, so make sure everyone’s contributions are recognized.
High school graduation announcement wording
You may be asking, what wording should be used in a high school graduation announcement ? Really, you can make things as simple or involved as you want, from including just a name, school, and graduation year, to adding the college your kid will soon be attending, or even highlighting which extracurricular activities they were involved in throughout their high school journey.
“ Grad Confetti ” by Paperless Post.
College graduation announcement wording.
You might be wondering, what typical wording is for a college graduation announcement . The good news is, it’s usually best to keep things simple and as straightforward as possible, adding just their name, school, and year of graduation. However, there are ways to include other relevant info, if you choose.
College graduation with honors announcement wording
Every college graduation is impressive and exciting, but when a student graduates with honors, you may want to highlight those extra accomplishments. Thankfully, there are no hard and fast rules as to where you should mention said honors on your graduation announcement. Depending on the design of the card you choose, you can incorporate the information alongside the college name and year. However, we’d suggest against putting your student’s honors front and center on the card, as it might come across as exceptionally braggadocious. (Though, to be fair, your kid has earned the right.)
College graduation announcement wording with mention of a job
The majority of graduates haven’t already found a full-time job upon graduation, so leaving this part out is no big deal. However, if your student has secured an exciting position, you can of course include it in their graduation announcement. At the end of your card, you can simply put, “NAME has accepted a position at NAME OF COMPANY.”
Medical school graduation announcement wording
Celebrating medical school graduation? You’ll almost certainly want to share the exciting news with family and friends. Here’s a bit of advice on how to word your med school graduation announcements.
Graduating from medical school is a particularly admirable accomplishment and one that’s very much worthy of highlighting. In addition to your typical graduation announcement wording, mention the medical school and program your graduate is leaving behind. You can also include cute, punny statements like “There’s a doctor in the house!” or something directly related to the field of medicine the graduate will be practicing.
Wording when husband and wife are both graduating doctors
First of all, congratulations on this incredible achievement. Just like before, be sure to clearly state the names, schools, programs, and graduation year of the new doctors. If they have a healthy sense of humor, you might want to include a cute, clever quip about how they can help each other out using their respective new medical fields.
“ Oliver Park I (Stationery) ” by kate spade new york for Paperless Post.
Graduation gifts and thank you notes.
Graduation announcements don’t require your recipients to send gifts in reply. However, if people do send gifts (or bring gifts to a graduation party) you shouldn’t consider the announcement the last word on giving thanks. Have your grad send a thank you note to every gift-giver.

What Is Included In A Graduation Announcement?
No matter if you’re graduating with your doctorate degree or your diploma from high school, contents of graduation announcements don’t vary a lot. Just make sure to include the following in your announcement so guests know the who, what, when, where and why of the big day. After you’ve got those details included, the rest is really up to you. Whether you’re parent of a graduating student or you’re the grad-to-be, you’ll choose if your announcement will be formal or informal, straight forward or affectionate and whether or not to include a photo. Just ensure your graduation announcement card includes:
- School Name
- Degree Type/Focus of Study
- Year/Date/Time
- Other Details (Party Information, Dress code, Gifts, etc)
When personalizing your graduation announcement cards , the wording style you choose should reflect your personality, tastes, and your accomplishments all while staying informative. Depending on how you want to tell everyone about the achievements you’ve made throughout the years, you may choose to include an inspiring graduation quote that reflects this special time in your life for a cute and meaningful touch and the journey ahead. Of course, you’ll also want to include some of the best graduation photos of yourself to show off to family and friends.
The past four years or so of your life were spent devoted to your studies, which deserve to be recognized. Staying with a more formal theme means using a serious tone. Dive deep into your vocabulary bank, avoid using slang, and compose sentences for a formal wording style that is perfect for spreading this exciting news. Be sure to include the information for the graduation party too. If formal announcements aren’t your style, then you can go with a more informal wording theme, but try to keep it from being overly casual. The major difference between a college graduation announcement and high school is the need to include the degree earned. Follow the templates below and edit if and where you see fit.

Ask What You Can Do: Class of 2024 Graduation Remarks
In this section.
- Dean’s Remarks
May 23, 2024
Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome to this celebration of the Harvard Kennedy School Class of 2024. I am delighted to be together with you all on this stormy but joyous occasion. I will keep my remarks brief to keep our attention focused where it belongs—on recognizing these graduates and their families and friends. Indeed, with the conferring of degrees earlier, the members of the Kennedy School class of 2024 are officially Harvard graduates. Congratulations! You have achieved so much during your time here, in your academic pursuits and your other activities, and I hope you are proud of what you have done.
I am especially impressed by how you have persevered during this past difficult year. The year has brought horrific suffering and tragedy to many people in the Middle East and elsewhere in the world. Because so many members of the Kennedy School community have families and friends around the world, and because everyone here is so engaged with the world, the humanitarian crises we watch are part of our lives too.
You have responded this year with both your heads and your hearts—eager to learn more to strengthen your understanding and intent on helping people in peril thousands of miles away and comforting people who are grieving here. Thank you for all of that.
In addition to congratulating our graduates, I want to congratulate the graduates’ families and friends—the parents, siblings, grandparents, spouses, partners, children, and all the loved ones who have supported today’s graduates and helped make today possible. Your guidance and encouragement have mattered so much in helping these graduates find their way to the Kennedy School and thrive here. I hope you are proud of your contributions to this special occasion, and I am delighted that you are with us today. Will the members of the class of 2024 please rise and join me in thanking your families and friends?
The video we just watched ended with U.S. president John F. Kennedy’s famous call in his inaugural address: “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” We use the phrase “ask what you can do” a lot at the Kennedy School—in videos, on banners, in published documents, and more. I don’t generally use the phrase in my remarks at graduations, but since I will be stepping down as dean next month, today is my last chance, and I can’t resist.
I am drawn to the expression “ask what you can do” because it gives each of us both a responsibility and an opportunity. I was pleased to hear yesterday in Ambassador Nick Burns’s speech that his perspectives on responsibility and opportunity seem very close to what I had written for these remarks.
The responsibility was John Kennedy’s focus. He recognized that a country is not fundamentally a place on a map or a legal entity, but instead a group of people. A country does not do anything apart from what the people of the country do. So, when you ask what your country can do for you, you are really asking what other people can do for you.
Sometimes that is appropriate, because we all depend on others and need to lean on others during our lives. But we also have a responsibility to ask what we can do for others, so that they can sometimes depend on us and lean on us. That is what John Kennedy was talking about.
And at the Kennedy School, we don’t mean just others in your country, as Kennedy naturally put it for a presidential inauguration. We also mean others in your neighborhood, your city, and our shared global society, because neighborhoods and cities and our global society also are not just places on a map or legal entities, they too are the people who live in them.
I hope that John Kennedy’s call to ask what you can do is felt especially strongly by graduates of the Kennedy School. Each of you graduating today has spent time on this campus surrounded by people who share a commitment to making public policy and leadership better, and who are studying, teaching, learning, and sharing the skills and knowledge for doing so. Now, you need to take the skills and knowledge you have gained here and put them to use. Put them to use in your own ways—in government, civil society, or the private sector; in your careers or your lives outside your careers; on causes you care about; in different aspects of the world that most interest you. But do something.
I want to emphasize also that the phrase is “ask what you can do”—not what you can say, not what superiority you can assert, not what clever takedown might get the most likes on social media—but what you can do. Improving public policy and leadership requires hard work and lots of it. In my years in the U.S. government, I saw no overnight triumphs and no accomplishments through rhetoric alone. When I saw progress in addressing public needs, and I did, it came incrementally from people who had the patience and persistence to labor long and hard and often out of the spotlight. That is what John Kennedy’s call should mean to you.
But I do not want to focus only on the responsibility identified by John Kennedy, I also want to highlight the opportunity—as Ambassador Burns did yesterday himself. When Kennedy called on people to “ask what you can do,” he was reminding everyone that what we do matters. Each of us can make a positive difference in other people’s lives. Each of us can help others and empower others to have better lives. Each of us has agency to influence what happens around us. That is the most wonderful opportunity anyone could hope for, and we should each seize it.
Sometimes the opportunity to help others arises at scale, and one can lead a government, develop a policy, redirect a nonprofit organization, or shape global events. Much more often, though, and even in the most successful careers, the opportunity to help others arises in a less expansive way, with a chance to help a small number of people or maybe one person. When that happens, seize the opportunity to make a difference for that person.
To make the right sort of difference, you will need to be both principled and effective—principled in living up to your values, and effective in using your skills and knowledge to advance those values. Graduates of the Kennedy School are especially prepared to do this. Unfortunately, even principled and effective public leaders do not prevail every day, and you will surely face setbacks small and large. But if you keep seizing the opportunities you have, you will help to move the world toward greater peace, prosperity, fairness, and sustainability for all.
To the class of 2024, you are ending your time as students of Harvard Kennedy School, but you will always be part of the School as alumni. Tens of thousands of Kennedy School alumni around the world are making a positive difference in their careers and their lives. They are accepting the important responsibility and seizing the wonderful opportunity to ask what they can do. Go join them. Travel safe and stay in touch. Congratulations!

Graduation’s Pomp Goes On, No Matter the Circumstance
Commencement is the rare American ritual that still has rules. That’s why it’s ripe for disruption.

By Jason Farago
Recycled robes, processional marches, silver pens from Tiffany: It is graduation season in America. May brings a nationwide festival of youth, with roots stretching back to before the foundation of the republic, and though many college commencements this month have taken place under police surveillance amid student outcry, the ceremonies have gone on.
There are more than three centuries of precedents for graduation rituals — for its dress, for its speeches, and for its disturbances. If commencement is ripe for contestation (the backs turned on the speaker, the kaffiyeh replacing the pointed sash), that’s because it’s one of the very last venues in which Americans show a commitment to how we do things, and not just what we say and record. I am always a little surprised that universities have hung onto these habits, almost uniquely longstanding. This is a country where very little endures. You can arrive at the Met Gala half-naked. You can play Bach or Beyoncé at a funeral. But graduation still has rules.
The students graduating from four-year colleges and universities this month began their studies, for the most part, in Pandemic Year Zero. They missed, in 2020, the walk across the football field or the auditorium stage to collect their high school diploma, and as the war in Gaza continues to inflame campuses some are facing disarray again. Columbia University, which called in the New York Police Department to oust pro-Palestinian student demonstrators, broke its universitywide commencement into smaller chunks. Emory University moved its ceremonies off campus.
None has been outright canceled, though. It takes a lot to cancel a graduation. At Harvard, where hundreds of students walked out of this year’s main ceremony, outbreaks of smallpox meant no commencement in 1752, 1757 (the Seven Years’ War didn’t help that year), and 1764. Revolutionary hostilities canceled the commencements of 1774-78 and 1780, but Harvard would not miss a commencement again until 2020. The ceremony took place through the Civil War and two world wars, and it went ahead in 1970, after National Guardsmen shot and killed four students at Kent State who were protesting the war in Vietnam. (Demonstrations did cancel graduation at Boston University, Hunter College and other schools; Kent State’s was scaled down .) In Harvard Yard that June, graduates protested the war by refusing to don cap and gown, or else by wearing white armbands over their robes. Local demonstrators with a bullhorn occupied the dais to demand low-income housing in Cambridge. Students heard dueling orations that denounced the Nixon administration and Students for a Democratic Society.
Today not even marriage — your wedding can be whatever you want! I read it in Cosmo — has the codified form of graduation, with its maces and chains, its rented regalia, the charted gestures and homilies. The gowns are an English import, though they date back to the emergence of the university in Paris and Bologna in the Middle Ages, where the students, newly entered into the ministry, wore dark robes both to keep warm and to abjure fashion.
The mortarboard cap is younger, probably an adaptation of the Italian biretta that priests still wear, and moving the tassel is younger still: until the mid-20th century no one cared on which side it dangled. Students worry about these things, or see value in rumbling them, because here appearance and significance — pomp and circumstance, if you prefer — are not antonyms. The whole point is that each needs the other.
Today there is an address, probably platitudinous, in which a politician or pop star delivers some variation of the liberal democratic gospel. In colonial America, your graduation ceremony might also have had a distinguished guest — in 1783, while the new Congress of the Confederation was sitting in Princeton, N.J., General Washington showed up at the commencement of what was then still called the College of New Jersey.
But the main speakers of an 18th-century commencement were the graduates themselves. Before receiving their degrees they would face off in disputations: prepared debates on religious, philosophical and scientific matters, staged for the professoriate and the general public. At Brown in 1773, the topic was free will and the debate was in Latin.
These early graduations were public festivals, some of the biggest of the year, and things could get rowdy. A company ledger in Providence, R.I., records an 8-shilling charge for “mending Pews broke Commt Day” in the hall where Brown held that 1773 commencement, plus a second invoice for repairing shattered windows. (The windows were broken again in 1774.)
“Whatever is real is so unlimited and unshaped that we have to summarize it,” the painter Gerhard Richter once said. “The more dramatic events are, the more important the form. That is why people marry in a church and why we need a priest for a funeral.” This is not about tradition itself; traditions you can take or leave. What I care about is form, and the images, objects, styles and gestures that elevate biological and technological existence into something we once called society. Some things, some causes, are worth dressing up for.

What will you always remember about your time at Cornell? Why is it so memorable?
Leading Zumba classes for the entire Cornell community has to be one of the most unforgettable experiences I had. It turned into way more than just a fitness class. It became this awesome space where people from all over campus could cut loose, have a blast, and connect. I met so many new friends through Zumba, and it created this amazing support system that I felt super lucky to have throughout my time at Cornell.
Doing the greatest good is a big part of being a Cornellian. How will you carry this into your career and life after Cornell?
Cornell’s motto of “doing the greatest good” definitely stuck with me. Beyond the classroom, I saw its impact through amazing orgs like ROMBA, Out for Undergrad, and of course, The Consortium, where I found some of my best friends. Moving forward, I want to pay it forward for future Cornellians, just like those who came before me. That means advocating for underrepresented groups and continuing to partner with incredible organizations like The Consortium. I can’t wait to become an advocate for the firms I work at, keeping that pipeline strong for future generations!
What is the most valuable thing you learned in your time at Cornell?
Cornell definitely leveled up my whole intelligence game. I knew social and emotional intelligence were key, but the real game-changer was cultural intelligence. Meeting classmates from all over the world and taking Professor Walden’s amazing Intercultural Communication class (seriously, Professor Walden is the best!) opened my eyes to navigating different cultures. This skill is going to be huge in my future career – being able to understand and connect with people from diverse backgrounds will be a major asset in any team!
What are you most looking forward to after graduation?
Super excited to hit the ground running after graduation! Moving to NYC for a killer product manager role is gonna be awesome. It’s all about finding that perfect blend of work that aligns with my passions, and this feels like the sweet spot. Plus, who knows, maybe I can find a way to keep the Zumba party going in the Big Apple – gotta stay creative, right?
