First, she is agreeable. Prisca is very kind; she is friendly, generous, and considerate. You can always expect her to be busy helping others. She is also mindful of how she supports her community. She will not try to be a clone of other people just to be accepted. She speaks up when feeling annoyed to express and release her anger.

Prisca leads by example. She encourages all her friends and younger siblings to be disciplined by being disciplined herself. She is respectful towards everyone and obedient to authorities, and she always abides by rules and codes of behavior.

She is straightforward and humble. She always stands by the truth even when faced with the dangers of being left by friends or being victimized. She barely tells lies. Most importantly, even with her wonderful accomplishments, she remains grounded. She doesn’t brag or show off to her peers and friends. She is down to earth and has never paraded around pridefully.

Every person has someone in his or her life that he or she admires for reasons best known to him or her. With Prisca, it’s the fact that she is comfortable with herself. Her beauty compounded with her character makes her a friend for keeps. She is someone I intend to keep in my life.

For instance, when my brother and I cleared high school, only one of us hoped to join college because of our financial situation, but she worked two jobs to ensure that we enrolled in college. Single mothers across the globe face financial instability where they are forced to engage in other strategies to extend income to take care of their family (West et al. 359). I hold great admiration for my mother because of her determination, how she never backs down, and the way she stands up for what she believes in no matter the hardships that come along.

My mother has a striking appearance, but behind this, she is very alluring, admirable, and kind. At first, one can conclude that she is a blunt and cold person because of her quiet nature, but after knowing her, she turns out to be a friendly, warm-hearted, gentle, and generous person. My mother has been a dedicated individual in the society through volunteering in church during weekends and holidays as well as helping in the local homeless shelters. Kindness is crucial and healthy since one takes pride in caring for others since they need caring, and it gives people a pleasant feeling (Adamu par. 6). Thanks to my mother, I have grown to be a kind-hearted and deeply-caring person since I believe that it's upon me to help those in need whenever I am capable.

I am lucky to have a mother who always supports me no matter my misgivings. No matter the activity I am in or the decision I make, my mother is still there for me to give me advice and encouragement, but at the end of the day, she is at all times by my side. I had a difficult time adapting to my first year in high school, and I almost quit, but my mum listened to my grievances, and with her support, I managed to finish high school. Supportive behavior is crucial for individual well-being, especially when it comes to emotional support, where a person can be able to relieve distress from a challenge (MacGeorge and Van Swol 7). My mother's supportive character has given me the strength to endure a lot of challenging situations in life as well as learn a lot in what life has to offer.

Special people like my mother exist to make our lives better and to mold us to become a better version of ourselves. My mother is a strong spirited person, kind-hearted, has unbreakable strength and very supportive. Over the years, I have learned a lot through her character and thoughts, which have molded me to the caring, decent, and brilliant person I am today. The people around us turn out to be the best role models.

After The Party is an award-winning New Zealand drama about abuse allegations starring Robyn Malcolm

Even though you'll finish the six episodes of After The Party knowing the definitive truth, while watching you'll constantly question whether protagonist Penny's accusation of child abuse towards her husband is justified.

Co-creator Robyn Malcolm, who plays Penny, says the show was a "real water cooler [moment]" when it aired in New Zealand late last year. She says it was unlike anything she'd experienced across her more than 30-year career.

"My bank manager rang me after about episode three and just said, 'I need to know what happens. Is she right? What if I dropped the mortgage?'", says Malcolm, adding, "She rang me two or three times, it was hilarious."

After The Party is predominantly set five years after Penny finds husband and fellow high-school teacher Phil (Peter Mullan) upstairs at his birthday party in their Wellington home in a compromising position with his daughter's teenage friend Ollie (Ian Blackburn).

But with details blurry and many drinks consumed, their friends believe Phil's assertion that he was simply helping someone in need. Penny is doggedly persistent, however, and Phil is unable to stay in Wellington.

Five years later, he returns home to take up a job and help their daughter (Tara Canton) with her own child, and Penny has a choice: let it lie, or continue ostracising herself in the name of what she sees as the simple, awful truth.

She cannot help but pull and pull at the few threads to community she has, even if she's left alone at the end.

Touching upon ideas of who gets to seek justice and which voices are heard, After The Party has been celebrated for its moral complexity and performances from the cast.

New Zealand critics have championed it as "a stunning achievement" and one of the country's finest shows and, in March, Malcolm's performance won Best Actress in the International Panorama at France's Séries Mania, an international TV festival.

"I'm crossing my fingers for Australia," she says. "I think they'll get it. The French did!"

Penny for your thoughts

While Malcolm might be one of New Zealand's most beloved actors – best known as criminal matriarch Cheryl West in Outrageous Fortune – Penny is not a particularly warm or kind character.

Her strength can lapse into pathetic stubbornness, represented by her decision to exclusively cycle Wellington's notorious hills and against its worse winds. She is a self-flagellating environmentalist who arrives grumpy, sweaty and tired to every other scene.

"I love characters who are clowns, even in tragedy," says Malcolm.

"When I did Upper Middle Bogan with Glenn Robbins, he said whenever he would do courses about how to write comedy, he would say to them 'go to the saddest, darkest place in your life and start there, because it'll always be funny'."

Malcolm says she's drawn to the comedy within "desperately miserable or angry" moments, and Penny brings those aplenty — whether it's shamelessly bribing her grandson with sugar and toys, acting out via vandalism, swearing at her students or simply making terrible decisions. It's delightfully painful and full of cringe comedy, but always with empathy for Penny.

Penny attends her grandson's birthday party as a pirate, despite no one else dressing up.

"She's got armour, everywhere," says Malcolm. "She's battling and fighting and not being vulnerable, blaming everybody else, being an asshole to her daughter and her friends."

That prickliness makes it all the easier for viewers to question Penny's claims as a defensive double-down, and for her community to outright dismiss them as vindictive lies.

It's a role Malcolm, 59, says she and writer Dianne Taylor created out of frustration at a lack of complex roles for middle-aged women. Citing Olive Kitteridge, The Mother and The Mayor of Easttown as a few positive examples, she says the two wanted to depict a "real, post-menopausal, middle-aged woman" on-screen.

"As women get older, the range of characters that you get to play becomes narrower," she says.

"You're either some twisted matriarch or a f***up, a failure, a bunny boiler or you're an old crony witch… Or, if you're the good person, you've got to wear white and giggle a lot. You've got to be a bit girly, so that everyone goes phew 'She's not a witch!'.

"I've gone through a period where I was auditioning for characters my own age, and I was losing the roles to women in their 30s," she adds, calling the trend aspirational casting.

"We wanted to dig under the hood of that – and then we thought, 'well, let's deliberately make Penny somebody that a network would find really unpalatable.'"

After The Party is predominantly a tense watch, but moments of pause come when Penny acts as a life model – a series of scenes that Malcolm and Taylor fought to keep in, with networks arguing they didn't match the show's pace.

But they felt it was important to portray a middle-aged body as beautiful outside of sex scenes, and to show Penny with her guard down, tears often welling in the moment, even if she doesn't quite understand why.

"I don't think she knows why she does it, I think she just does it," says Malcolm. "But I know why."

"So many women who are 50+ talk about being invisible, Penny would be no exception. I think she does [life drawing] to be visible – the irony is she's working incredibly hard in the rest of her life to not be seen."

After The Party airs each Sunday at 8.30pm on ABC TV beginning April 28, with all episodes available to stream on ABC iview.

A broad coalition of the Kennedy family endorsed President Biden on Thursday at a campaign rally in Philadelphia, pointedly rejecting one of their own in Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the independent candidate who many Democrats believe poses a significant threat to Mr. Biden’s re-election chances.

Among the relatives of Mr. Kennedy who backed Mr. Biden were his siblings Joseph, Kerry, Rory, Kathleen, Maxwell and Christopher. Roughly a dozen Kennedys appeared at the rally, where Kerry Kennedy introduced Mr. Biden.

“He has us thriving again, believing again, behaving like good neighbors again,” Kerry Kennedy said of Mr. Biden as he and five of her siblings looked on from the stage. “Nearly every single grandchild of Joe and Rose Kennedy supports Joe Biden. That’s right, the Kennedy family endorses Joe Biden for president.”

Accepting the endorsement, Mr. Biden said that Robert F. Kennedy’s “passion and courage inspired my generation,” recounting his speech calling for peace after the assassination of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The show of force by the Kennedys sent the clearest signal yet that America’s most storied Democratic family is deeply fearful that one of its own could tip the 2024 election to former President Donald J. Trump, and hopes to use its influence to try to stop him.

Many family members have previously expressed strong disapproval of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s candidacy, voicing anguish about his promotion of conspiracy theories and confusion about why he is challenging a Democratic president they admire. Like many Democrats, they worry that he could help Mr. Trump win if he draws even a small number of votes away from Mr. Biden in the battleground states — contests that were decided by tens of thousands of votes in 2020.

Responding to the move by his family members, Mr. Kennedy refrained from criticizing them.

“I hear some of my family will be endorsing President Biden today,” he wrote on social media . “I am pleased they are politically active — it’s a family tradition. We are divided in our opinions but united in our love for each other.”

Mr. Trump remained the main target of attacks at the Philadelphia event, with Kerry Kennedy calling him “the most anti-democratic president in American history.”

Still, the symbolic repudiation of Mr. Kennedy was not subtle. His sister said that she believed Mr. Biden’s campaign “should unite not only Democrats but all Americans, including Republicans and independents,” groups her brother is hoping to appeal to. She repeatedly emphasized the need for unity to defeat Mr. Trump.

A person familiar with the matter, who insisted on anonymity, said that Kennedy family members had approached the Biden team and requested a joint event for the endorsements.

The family had telegraphed its intentions: Last month, members visited Mr. Biden at the White House for St. Patrick’s Day, sharing a photo of him with a large group of them. “From one proud Irish family to another — it was good to have you all back at the White House,” Mr. Biden wrote on social media.

Members of the Kennedy family also denounced an ad that a super PAC supporting Mr. Kennedy ran during the Super Bowl. The ad closely resembled a spot supporting John F. Kennedy, his uncle, during his 1960 bid for the White House.

With the election months away, and Mr. Kennedy still pursuing access to the ballot in many states, it’s hard to know whether he would draw more votes from Mr. Trump or Mr. Biden’s camp. But polls suggest that Mr. Trump’s base of support is much more fixed than Mr. Biden’s, meaning it’s possible that some of the president’s voters could be open to an alternative.

The Democratic Party has put together a team of lawyers aimed at tracking Mr. Kennedy’s threat , especially in battleground states. The group is also seeking to counter other potential spoilers such as Cornel West, a progressive academic seeking the presidency, and the Green Party.

Democrats have already watched the collapse of one third-party effort they had nervously eyed: The centrist group No Labels, after seeking to set up a moderate politician with national recognition as an alternative to Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump, announced early this month that it would abandon its attempt.

Mr. Kennedy holds a smorgasbord of policy positions not easily categorized by ideology. He has expressed liberal views on abortion, the environment and income inequality, but has also promoted false theories about the safety of vaccines and pushed arguments that are more common on the right.

This month, he questioned the Justice Department’s effort to prosecute those who rioted at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, downplaying the severity of the attack. His campaign also fired a consultant who had suggested that supporting Mr. Kennedy would help Mr. Trump defeat Mr. Biden.

Still, Mr. Trump has signaled that he, too, sees Mr. Kennedy as potentially attracting voters away from his campaign. He posted on social media last month that Mr. Kennedy was more “radical Left” than Mr. Biden, casting him as a liberal Democrat in disguise. Yet Mr. Trump has also privately expressed intrigue with the idea of choosing Mr. Kennedy as his running mate — a notion that those close to him consider unrealistic and that Mr. Kennedy himself rejected.

Mr. Biden’s rally in Philadelphia is the final major stop in a three-day swing through Pennsylvania. During the trip, he laid out his economic and tax agenda, repeatedly attacking Mr. Trump as wealthy, out of touch and an enemy of working people.
