Editor’s Note: We know that many of you are looking for help writing travel experience essays for school or simply writing about a trip for your friends or family. To inspire you and help you write your next trip essay—whether it’s an essay about a trip with family or simply a way to remember your best trip ever (so far)—we enlisted the help of Professor Kathleen Boardman, whose decades of teaching have helped many college students learn the fine art of autobiography and life writing. Here’s advice on how to turn a simple “my best trip” essay into a story that will inspire others to explore the world.

Welcome home! Now that you’re back from your trip, you’d like to share it with others in a travel essay. You’re a good writer and a good editor of your work, but you’ve never tried travel writing before. As your potential reader, I have some advice and some requests for you as you write your travel experience essay.

Trip Essays: What to Avoid

Please don’t tell me everything about your trip. I don’t want to know your travel schedule or the names of all the castles or restaurants you visited. I don’t care about the plane trip that got you there (unless, of course, that trip is the story).

I have a friend who, when I return from a trip, never asks me, “How was your trip?” She knows that I would give her a long, rambling answer: “… and then … and then … and then.” So instead, she says, “Tell me about one thing that really stood out for you.” That’s what I’d like you to do in this travel essay you’re writing.

The Power of Compelling Scenes

One or two “snapshots” are enough—but make them great. Many good writers jump right into the middle of their account with a vivid written “snapshot” of an important scene. Then, having aroused their readers’ interest or curiosity, they fill in the story or background. I think this technique works great for travel writing; at least, I would rather enjoy a vivid snapshot than read through a day-to-day summary of somebody’s travel journal.

Write About a Trip Using Vivid Descriptions

Take your time. Tell a story. So what if you saw things that were “incredible,” did things that were “amazing,” observed actions that you thought “weird”? These words don’t mean anything to me unless you show me, in a story or a vivid description, the experience that made you want to use those adjectives.

I’d like to see the place, the people, or the journey through your eyes, not someone else’s. Please don’t rewrite someone else’s account of visiting the place. Please don’t try to imitate a travel guide or travelogue or someone’s blog or Facebook entry. You are not writing a real travel essay unless you are describing, as clearly and honestly as possible, yourself in the place you visited. What did you see, hear, taste, say? Don’t worry if your “take” on your experience doesn’t match what everyone else says about it. (I’ve already read what THEY have to say.)

The Importance of Self-Editing Your Trip Essay

Don’t give me your first draft to read. Instead, set it aside and then reread it. Reread it again. Where might I need more explanation? What parts of your account are likely to confuse me? (After all, I wasn’t there.) Where might you be wasting my time by repeating or rambling on about something you’ve already told me?

Make me feel, make me laugh, help me learn something. But don’t overdo it: Please don’t preach to me about broadening my horizons or understanding other cultures. Instead, let me in on your feelings, your change of heart and mind, even your fear and uncertainty, as you confronted something you’d never experienced before. If you can, surprise me with something I didn’t know or couldn’t have suspected.

You Can Do It: Turning Your Trip into a Great Travel Experience Essay

I hope you will take yourself seriously as a traveler and as a writer. Through what—and how—you write about just a small portion of your travel experience, show me that you are an interesting, thoughtful, observant person. I will come back to you, begging for more of your travel essays.

Dream Family Vacation and Its Benefits Essay

Introduction.

Leisure is a very essential aspect of every individual’s life. It entails taking a break from daily activities and demands and having some fun with friends and family. Vacation is a period spent for rest and leisure-related activities such as recreation and travel, putting aside aspects of work, or any other activity that occupies our routine practices for instance studies. There are various ways through which a vacation could be spent depending on what an individual or a particular group of people deem enjoyable. Some may consider having a good time indoors while others would prefer traveling to cool entertainment places the latter option is most preferred.

Vacations go hand in hand with some spending since people tend to consider enjoying what they have not been having on normal occasions. The expenses could, for example, include traveling costs, lodging, food, and drinks as well as charges on other forms of recreation like swimming among others. This essay looks at the worth of spending on a vacation in an effort to justify expenditure with my family on the planned vocational trip.

The family vacation

I personally consider a vacation to be a healthy and important aspect to every individual irrespective of age or social status. Having been busy for most periods of the year, I have decided to spend an interesting vacation with my family (parents and siblings) for the purposes of breaking the boredom and relaxing. I have opted for a short trip, one week long, to the coastal region where entertainment facilities are adequate.

This step is driven by my belief that a family that spends time together for instance on vacations establishes strong bonding that is essential for a healthy family. Initially, I have to persuade my family members to agree on going out for the vacation since it is not an ordinary aspect and it is thus received with some form of resistance as most of them cannot clearly understand the essence of heavy spending instead of just staying at home.

According to my, the vacation is worth the spending since every person is to enjoy the trip to the maximum. Change is just like rest and the variation in family time spending will contribute a lot to each family member. The young siblings will for example have some ample time to spend together and engage in different activities that will help them appreciate each other as a result of having time to understand one another.

For our parents, the vacation will offer ample time for bonding and sharing much, in an environment that is away from home an aspect that may in one way or the other strengthen their relationship. To us, the youths, we will have an opportunity to interact with other youths and share experiences that could be beneficial for growth and development or social well being.

Vacation also benefits the family as a whole in that it makes it easier to understand one another as there is a close involvement hence allowing for the learning of what each person likes and dislikes and hence learning how to treat them in different situations to promote peace and harmony in the family. Vacation in a different place apart from home also helps individuals to be themselves and have fun because the environment is not controlled unlike when in the house, school, or work.

The vacation involving my family will help in physical and mental relaxation and reduction of stress levels that accumulate in our daily schedules at work, as well as studies for those in learning institutions and it, will also promote a healthy lifestyle that is achievable through the incorporation of work and leisure. Adventure and discovery of new places and cultural diversity is also a positive attribute that will be gained among the family members through the visit of places and meeting of new individuals. Vacation has a long-term effect on the improvement of life as it helps in refreshing one’s mind and hence enhancing an individual’s concentration and performance in different activities leading to improved productivity.

A vacation is a significant aspect that should be spent in the best way possible. It is however a concept that many individuals take lightly attaching very little importance to it. The most controversial element is the spending associated with vacations where most people do not find any justification for spending on aspects that could otherwise be avoided, to save on money for other basic activities.

This is attributed to the deterioration of the general economy which necessitates some considerable thoughts before engaging in any form of activity. All in all, I consider spending on vacation to be worthwhile as it is associated with various benefits as mentioned earlier in this essay and it only requires appropriate planning and budgeting. For this reason, I managed to persuade my family to engage in the vacation and have some time together in a relaxed mode, and the benefits we achieved surpass the spending involved to a great extent.

Planning The Trip

Choosing a destination is the first step in planning a family trip. It’s important to consider the interests and preferences of all family members, as well as the budget and logistical considerations. Researching the destination, including its cultural norms, local cuisine, and top attractions, can help ensure that the trip is both enjoyable and educational.

Budgeting and logistics are also important factors to consider. Family trips can be expensive, so it’s essential to create a budget and stick to it. This may involve finding deals on flights and accommodations or choosing a destination that is more affordable. It’s also important to plan for transportation, including rental cars or public transportation, and to make sure all necessary travel documents are up-to-date.

Deciding on activities and accommodations is another crucial step in planning a family trip. Depending on the destination and the interests of the family members, activities can range from cultural sightseeing to outdoor adventures. Choosing accommodations that offer enough space and amenities for the entire family can also make the trip more comfortable and enjoyable.

The Trip Itself

Experiencing new cultures and cuisines is one of the best parts of family travel. Trying local foods, exploring historical sites, and interacting with locals can create lasting memories and broaden cultural horizons. Participating in activities and attractions that appeal to all family members, from theme parks to hiking trails, can also help create a sense of shared experiences.

Making memories and strengthening family bonds is another key aspect of family travel. Sharing new experiences, overcoming challenges together, and spending quality time with loved ones can create lasting memories and strengthen familial relationships. Simple activities like playing board games, going on walks, or enjoying meals together can also help create cherished memories.

The Trip Itself

Challenges And Lessons Learned

Family trips can present unexpected challenges, from flight delays to illness to cultural misunderstandings. Dealing with these challenges can be frustrating, but it can also be an opportunity to learn important life skills. Learning to compromise, communicate effectively, and adapt to new situations can be valuable lessons for both children and adults.

Appreciating the value of family time is another important lesson that can be learned through family travel. In our busy lives, it’s easy to get caught up in work and other responsibilities, but taking time to spend with family can create a sense of balance and perspective. Family trips can help us appreciate the importance of family time and create lasting memories that we can cherish for years to come.

The Benefits Of Family Trips

Strengthening family bonds is one of the most significant benefits of family travel. Spending quality time together, sharing new experiences, and overcoming challenges can create a sense of closeness and connectedness. Creating lifelong memories is another benefit of family travel. The shared experiences and cherished memories can be looked back on with fondness and nostalgia for years to come.

Expanding cultural horizons is another valuable benefit of family travel. Experiencing new cultures, trying new foods, and interacting with locals can broaden our perspectives and foster a greater understanding and appreciation of different cultures. Providing opportunities for personal growth is another benefit of family travel. Overcoming challenges, stepping out of our comfort zones, and adapting to new situations can help us develop resilience, confidence, and a sense of adventure.

Family trips are an excellent way to bond and create lasting memories with loved ones. By carefully planning the trip, embracing new experiences, and overcoming challenges together,

Tips for Writing a "What I Did on Vacation" Essay

  • Writing Research Papers

  • M.Ed., Education Administration, University of Georgia
  • B.A., History, Armstrong State University

Are you required to write an essay about your summer vacation or your holiday break? This can be a tough assignment to tackle at first glance. But if you think about it, there are lots of interesting things that happen on your vacation that others might enjoy reading about. The key to success is to zero in on the experiences, people, or situations that made your vacation unique.

Summer vacation can be busy or lazy, funny or serious. You may have traveled with your family, worked every day, fallen in love, or coped with a difficult situation. To start your essay, you'll need to choose a topic and tone.

Family Vacation Essay Topic Ideas

If you traveled with your family, you may have some great stories to tell. After all, every family is crazy in its own way. Want some proof? How many Hollywood films have themes about family holidays or trips? Those films are popular because they enable us to glimpse inside the crazy family lives of others. Alternatively, you may have a more serious story to tell.

Consider these funny topics:

  • Why I'll Never Go Back to (insert place name)
  • How (insert name) Drove Me Crazy in Five Days
  • Traveling to (insert city) Then and Now
  • The Hazards of Traveling With a (person or thing)
  • Why You Shouldn't Take a Dog to (insert place)
  • I Left (insert city) But My (lost item) Stayed
  • Why I Couldn't Sleep in (place name)

If your family vacation involved something more serious, think about one of these topics:

  • The Love I Left Behind in (insert place)
  • Saying Good-Bye to (insert person or place)
  • Exploring (place's) Secrets
  • An Emotional Trip

Summer Job Essay Topic Ideas

Not everyone gets to spend the summer having fun; some of us have to work for a living. If you spent your summer at a job, chances are you met a lot of interesting characters, dealt with complicated situations, or even saved the day once or twice. Here are some ideas for summer job topics:

  • The Boss's Day Off
  • The Customer From Hell
  • What I Learned from My Customers
  • Why I'll Never Go Into the ___ Business
  • Six Things I Learned on the Job

How to Write the Essay

Once you've chosen your topic and your tone, think about the story you want to tell. In most cases, your essay will follow a typical story arc:

  • The hook (the funny, sad, or scary sentence that grabs the reader's attention)
  • The rising action (the beginning of your story)
  • The climax (the most exciting moment in your story)
  • The denouement (the aftermath or ending to your story)

Start by writing out the basic outline of your story. For example, "I started cleaning a guest's room and found that they'd left behind a wallet with $100 in cash. When I turned it in without taking a single dollar for myself, my boss rewarded me with a $100 gift certificate and a special award for honesty."

Next, start fleshing out the details. What was the room like? What was the guest like? What did the wallet look like and where was it left? Were you tempted to just take the money and turn in the wallet empty? How did your boss look when you handed her the wallet? How did you feel when you got your reward? How did others around you react to your honesty?

Once you've told your story in all its detail, it's time to write the hook and conclusion. What question or thought can you use to grab your reader's attention? For example: "What would you do if you found a wallet loaded with cash? That was my dilemma this summer."

Family Trip Essay

Family trips are a great way to bond with your loved ones. It can be a fun and exciting experience, but it is also important to be prepared. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your next family trip:

1. Choose your destination carefully. Make sure everyone in the family is on board with the location you have in mind. Consider things like weather, activities, and cost when making your decision.

2. Plan ahead. Once you have chosen your destination, start planning all of the details of the trip. This includes booking flights or hotels, renting a car, and making restaurant reservations.

3. Be flexible. Family trips can be unpredictable, so it’s important to be flexible with your plans. Things may not always go as planned, but that’s part of the fun.

4. Have realistic expectations. Family trips can be stressful, so it’s important to have realistic expectations. Remember that everyone will have different needs and wants, so try to accommodate everyone as best you can.

5. Take time to relax. Family trips can be busy, so make sure to take some time for yourself. Go for a walk on the beach, take a nap, or read your favorite book.

I discovered that I had a lot of information to pass on over the phone. However, rather than being scared by this knowledge, I was pleased. Because our family holidays were restricted due to travel experiences by one or both of us or friends and relatives, it never occurred to me as to what factors influenced my family members in selecting a destination for their own vacation with their friends.

The following is a list of tips that I gleaned from my conversations with my family members about planning a trip.

1. Define your purpose for traveling. Whether it be for business, leisure, or adventure, having a clear understanding of why you are hitting the road will help to dictate the rest of your planning process.

2. Determine your travel companions. Family? Friends? Coworkers? Knowing who you will be spending time with on your trip will help to set expectations and make sure everyone is on the same page.

3. Set a budget. This is arguably the most important step in planning any trip. Having a realistic understanding of how much money you have to spend will help to narrow down your destination options and make sure you are not overspending.

4. Choose your destination. Once you have a clear purpose for travel, Travel companions, and a budget, you can start to zero in on where you would like to go. This is where research comes in handy! Read up on potential destinations, look at pictures, and check out reviews to get a better sense of what each place has to offer.

5. Plan your itinerary. Once you have chosen your destination, it’s time to start mapping out what you would like to do while you’re there. Again, research is key here. Look up popular attractions, find out about local events that might be happening during your stay, and read up on restaurant reviews so you know where to eat.

6. Pack your bags! This is the fun part. Make sure you have everything you need for your trip, from clothes to toiletries to any electronics you might need. And don’t forget your travel documents!

7. Enjoy your trip! The most important step of all. Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, make sure to take some time to relax and enjoy yourself. You deserve it.

It was usual for Merit Myer and his family to visit relatives that lived outside of the state in the summer. The reunions themselves were not something Merit enjoyed, but overall, it was a good time. The automobile journeys were filled with refreshing air conditioning, decent food at rest stops, and sleeping to oldies music was pleasant enough. If said reunion gatherings took place near an amusement park and offered comfortable living arrangements, he’d consider it a major plus.

This was the case for his most recent reunion and Merit couldn’t have been more thrilled. The drive there was, as always, uneventful. They made good time and arrived at the rental house by early evening. It was a two-story with a wraparound porch and a hammock strung between two trees in the backyard. After unpacking and settling in, they all decided to head into town for dinner.

The town was small but quaint. They found a little diner that looked promising and went inside. The waitress seated them in a booth near the window and handed them menus. They all ordered their food and settled in to wait. While they were waiting, Merit’s mom started chatting with the family in the booth next to them.

It turned out that the family was also there for a reunion. They were all talking and laughing and having a good time. Merit’s mom struck up a conversation with the father and it turns out they had a lot in common. They started talking about their families and where they were from.

By the end of dinner, they had exchanged phone numbers and plans to get together while they were in town. It was nice to see his mom making friends and enjoying herself. The trip was off to a great start.

The next few days were filled with visiting relatives, eating good food, and exploring the town. They went on a hike, visited an old gold mine, and even took a day trip to the nearest city. On the last night of their trip, they all went out to dinner again and said their goodbyes.

It was a great trip and Merit is already looking forward to next year’s reunion. Who knows, maybe he’ll even make some friends of his own.

He often kept to himself and was not good at making friends with people he didn’t know. To him, family meant his mother and father, aunts, uncles, and cousins who lived nearby and/or saw on a yearly basis. It was difficult for him to relate to the greater family of distant relatives that he rarely sees or talks to in less than a week. It didn’t help that he was socially awkward and had interests his relatives did not share.

When he was younger, he went on family trips with his parents and siblings. They would go camping, hiking, and fishing in the woods near their home. He loved these trips because he got to bond with his family and explore the outdoors. As he got older, his parents stopped taking him on these trips. They said he was too old and needed to stay home and help take care of his younger siblings. He was disappointed but didn’t argue with them.

A few years later, when he was in his early twenties, his parents announced that they were going on a family trip without him. They said it was time for him to start his own life and they didn’t want to cramp his style. He was hurt and disappointed but again, he didn’t argue with them.

He stayed home and took care of his younger siblings while his parents were gone. He was happy to do it but he couldn’t help feeling a little left out. Family trips were something he had always enjoyed and now he was being left behind.

A few years later, when he was in his late twenties, his parents called him and asked if he wanted to join them on their next family trip. He was surprised and happy to hear from them and said yes right away.

They went on a road trip together and had a great time. It was nice to reconnect with his family and explore new places together. He realized that even though he’s grown up, he still enjoys spending time with his family. Family trips are a great way to bond and create lasting memories.

Essay About Trip With Family

Essay About Trip With Family ( 150 Words)

Summer vacation is my favourite time of the year, as it gives me a chance to relax and explore new things.

This summer, I visited my native village which is quite a distance from the city. It is a five-hour journey by train.

My grandparents stay there and my grandfather takes the core of the fields and produces a variety of crops.

My cousins visited our grandparents too during their summer vacation, Our grandmother prepared delicious and mouth-watering dishes for us and we relished every bite of the food.

I spent most of the time, visiting fields with my grandmother's father and learning from him about crops and the seasons they are produced in.

I also played a lot with my village friends. It was routine every night to listen to a story from my grandmother and sink to sleep.

I had a wonderful time spending some priceless moments with my grandparents,

Í feels blessed to have such a 'caring and loving family, with whom I enjoyed my summer vacation thoroughly.

Essay About Trip With Family ( 200 words)

A picnic with family is one of the most relaxing getaways to enjoy on weekends or vacations. Be it in a park or a garden, a riverside or a dam.

On 1st January last, we went for a picnic. Kalyani Picnic Garden was our picnic spot. It was a beautiful place to enjoy a picnic.

I went there with my parents, sister, brother and other members of our family. We were also accompanied by some of our neighbours.

We started our journey early in the morning. We went there by car. It took one and a half an hour to get there.

It was a distance of 60 km from our home to our picnic spot. It was a beautiful spot beside the Ganges. Many picnic parties went there.

We spent the time joyfully. We visited different kinds of trees flowers and grasses. It was an amazing place to explore.

We played Cricket and badminton. Some lay idle and listened to music. We also ate a lot. In the evening we enjoyed boating on the river. We also enjoyed the glorious sunset. Then we returned home with a very happy mind.

Essay About Trip With Family ( 1100 Words)

Going on a trip traveling and hanging out with our family and friends is always an extremely good thing it is always a pleasant experience that you get the chance to mix up with your dear friends in a deeper way despite

The fact that I have a great deal of time to spend with my friends in school it is likewise ideal to spend time with other different spots like shopping malls beaches hills or even at their homes or any suitable place for gathering.

Whenever we go out to hang out we have a pleasant time together sometimes we like to watch movies in the cinema or play video games it is a great source of amusement entertainment one gets from being among friends is always unforgettable personally

I think that going with your friends is the ideal approach to travel regardless of whether this implies hiking around the country for a year or simply taking an end-of-the-week outing to another city I forcefully suggest the experience

but sometimes it is also very risky to be with friends in some place which is not in the knowledge of your parents I have had a very interesting experience

last year in March 2019 I went with my five friends to Alcor Beach to enjoy some moments of life there it was the first time

when I took a short one-day trip with my friends since my childhood my family has always taken me on trips on weekends this time I made a decision to spend some time with my friends on the beach and cooking for ourselves this seemed something

Specious to my parents but I insisted and my parents gave permission half-heartedly but they knew that adult children should learn to see the world outside their home with their own eyes

Anyhow I got permission we bought different essential foodstuff from the market and set out on a short journey after reaching there we found peacefulness and serenity all around us on the beach this part of our trip was the time of quiescence no rush and noise was there it was the 12:30 pm and a good time for lunch

We made everything ready for cooking we spent almost one and a half an hour preparing food which we really enjoyed after half an hour's rest and chatting with one another

We got ready to have a walk on the beach there were hundreds of people who had come to enjoy themselves in the pleasant breeze some people there had thrown wrappers and empty cans in this way they fringed the law of keeping the beaches clean

after two hours we had the mood to drink tea but unfortunately, we had not brought the things needed for fulfilling this wish then we made a unanimous decision to go to a nearby restaurant but one of our friends had strong opposition to going anywhere

Anyhow he accepted the fact that the majority is the authority we convinced him not to show any dislike and got ready to go on the way to the restaurant we saw a man with one leg he was looking at us with questioning eyes

But we didn't want to be officious to asking for any reason why he was staring at us one of my friends asked him in a sympathetic tone as to why he had one leg on our insistence he told us the whole story about his past life that he met an accident in which he lost one of his legs

He expressed his views ostensibly in an innocent way but whenever we asked him about the fault whether it was his or the other parties then he told the truth that he had committed a crime due to which

He was followed by the law enforcement agency he was telling his story in a very interesting way in the struggle his car overturned and he got severely injured and lost one of his legs after being treated

he was taken to prison to face the punishment of his crime he was feeling the guilt and prick of conscience in court trial he was absolved of his crime

when he paid the heavy fine and spent six months in jail now he is free but he is crippled and an indigent man when we were listening to him we didn't know about the time it took one hour

when he was narrating his true story we had sad and sympathetic feelings for him we left him and headed for the restaurant again we reached there chose a table seated ourselves and ordered tea

we enjoyed the tea and stayed until four o'clock although we were tired we didn't express any tiredness because such moments of free life don't come again and again because of other educational responsibilities

we had a lot of chat and that was the beauty of our trip having a trip with my friends I had different feelings about everything though

I have experienced it before but what's different was that I could share these feelings with my friends with different people you have different feelings and this is also why a trip with friends can be so interesting and fascinating to me we had been looking forward to enjoying the last hour of our trip more and more

so we didn't want to waste any time at all one of our friends suggested having a bath in the sea that was amazing for half an hour we bathed her and then came out of the seawater

Now we were extremely hungry and were going mad with hunger we made another decision at this crucial time to have dinner at a Turkish restaurant

so as to double the pleasure of our trip we reached there in 15 minutes we gave the order for food according to our own personal choice we had to wait for 20 minutes before the waiters came with full trays real enjoyment that was wonderful the food was so much delicious that we couldn't control ourselves from overeating

I will never forget this trip of mine with my dearest friends after having a rich dinner we had to return to our homes

I highly recommend that all of my other friends should have the same kind of taste and experience in life we learn many things not from books but from practical experience

I will never forget this trip in my whole life now I plan to go away on holiday this summer with my best friends on another trip and I'm sure it will be a great trip.

 THANK YOU SO MUCH

Travel Essay

Article By: Josh Loney

In my life, I have gone on many memorable trips. I look forward to my families annual trip to Georgia every year, and I will never forget our trip to Graceland or all the different family events we’ve gone to out east. But the one trip that has stayed in my mind and had the greatest impact on me wasn’t a family trip.

It was my synagogue’s youth group trip to Cincinnati.

Boy with bear mascot

Every year my temple youth group takes all it’s freshmen on a special trip to Cincinnati, as part of their confirmation in the Jewish faith. We all got up early on a Friday and the bus departed at seven. After an exhaustingly long bus ride it was time for our first destination. We all got dressed up in our good clothes and arrived at a church.

Actually it wasn’t a church. It was the first reformed Jewish temple ever established in the world. The founders wanted to create a place of worship that was seemingly identical to the norm (Christianity.) The temple had an Ottoman-esque interior, roofed with elaborately painted domes, lined with traditional wooden pews, with a massive organ in the back that’s pipes snaked up the wall like ivy. There was even a steeple (back when the temple was first built, the neighboring church made their steeple taller because they didn’t want to be outdone by jews.)

The only tip-off that this wasn’t a church was that there were no crosses.

Another destination was the Hebrew Union College where we got a tour of their records room which included historic religious artifacts from a translated scroll by medieval-era Chinese Jews to a Gutenberg bible.

We were taken through their Holocaust memorial, a sobering tour including filmed interviews of survivors.

Both of these stops held a special weight that has impacted my view on life. I had never taken my religion seriously. But seeing where my practice began, relics from Jews around the world and the evil that was the holocaust changed that.

It made me realize that for thousands of years people have fought to keep this religion alive and it is my duty to keep it and pass it on and fight for it too.

The whole trip wasn’t all serious however. I also had some of the most fun in my entire life. I roomed with three of my friends.

On the first night when we were changing for the Sabbath, a girl came to our door and one answered even though none of us were fully clothed. We pushed him out the door and promptly locked him out. About five minutes later we realized that he had no clothes. He promptly showed up at the door in girls clothing, somewhat angry but laughing at our prank. He ended up having to go to services in a pink sweatshirt and girls-jeans.

The Rabbi was obviously bemused to say the least.

On the last night the four of us were just relaxing when all of a sudden another kid from the adjoining hotel room burst through the door wearing a t-shirt, boxers and snow-boots shouting “Get everything off the floor!”

Any confusion was suddenly swept away when we saw water come flowing into our room. A pipe had burst and we spent the night with an inch of water covering the floor.

This trip was three years ago. But of it is still vivid in my memory. It instilled faith in me and built camaraderie amongst my peers (some are now my best friends) and it has given me memories that I will cherish forever.

Step 1: Set the Stage

Begin by stating the date and destination of your family trip. Introduce the entry with your expectations or the purpose of the trip.

August 10, 2024. We set off on our much-anticipated family trip to the Grand Canyon.

Step 2: Document the Departure

Capture the excitement, chaos, or even the stress of departure. Mention the means of travel and any noteworthy occurrences.

The morning was hectic, with last-minute packing and double-checking tickets. The kids were bubbling with energy as we boarded the flight.

Step 3: Describe the Setting

Once you’ve reached your destination, describe the setting in detail. What does it look like? How does it feel? Paint a picture of the new surroundings.

The vast expanse of the canyon is breathtaking. The myriad of colors at sunset paints a picture so vivid it feels surreal.

Step 4: Share First Impressions

Record your first impressions and those of your family members. This can often include a mix of awe, excitement, or even the occasional disappointment.

The children were awestruck, having never seen anything so vast. My spouse, a geology enthusiast, was eager to explore every layer of the canyon’s walls.

Step 5: Reflect on the Day’s Activities

Detail the activities you engaged in. What did you see and do? How did your family interact with the environment and with each other?

We hiked a trail suitable for all ages, taking in the grandeur of the landscape. Laughter echoed as the kids played explorer, leading the way with handmade maps.

Step 6: Record Special Moments

Capture the special moments that stand out. These could be funny incidents, moments of family bonding, or unexpected challenges.

During a picnic, a squirrel made off with a sandwich, prompting an impromptu nature lesson—and lots of giggles—from the kids.

Step 7: Include Conversations

Recount interesting or meaningful conversations. How is the trip influencing your family’s dynamics or individual perspectives?

Over dinner, we talked about the history of the canyon. The kids asked insightful questions, and we all learned something new.

Step 8: Express Personal Feelings

Don’t forget to express your own feelings and emotions. How is the trip affecting you? Are you feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, or maybe homesick?

As I watched my family against the backdrop of such natural beauty, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude.

Step 9: Contemplate the Experiences

Reflect on the experiences of the day. What have you learned? How has the trip impacted your view of family or life?

Today reminded me that it’s not just the destination, but the shared journey that’s truly important.

Step 10: Summarize the Day

End your entry by summarizing the day’s events. What will you take away from today’s experiences?

The day was filled with laughter, discovery, and a sense of connection that only nature and shared experiences can foster.

Step 11: Anticipate What’s Next

Look forward to upcoming days or activities on the trip. What are you and your family most excited about?

Tomorrow we plan to attend a ranger talk about the local wildlife. The kids can hardly wait, their interest piqued by today’s unexpected critter encounter.

Additional Tips:

  • Incorporate Sensory Details : Mention the smells, tastes, sounds, and textures you encounter to bring your entry to life.
  • Use Direct Quotes : If a family member says something memorable or poignant, include it in your entry.
  • Be Honest : Your diary is a private space, so feel free to express any frustrations or challenges as well as the good times.
  • Include Visuals : Sketches, ticket stubs, or even a smudge of sand can add texture and visual interest to your diary.
  • Reflect on Changes : If you’ve been to this place before, or if you observe any growth in yourself or family members, write about it.

Diary Entry Family Trip Example #1

Dear Diary,

I just returned from an incredible family trip, and I feel so grateful for the memories we created together. We traveled to a beach town on the coast, and it was a wonderful escape from our busy lives.

The beach was beautiful, with soft sand and sparkling blue water. We spent most of our days swimming in the ocean, building sandcastles, and soaking up the sun. It was so nice to relax and enjoy the warm weather with my family.

We also had the chance to explore the town and its local attractions. We went to the aquarium, where we saw all kinds of marine life, from sea turtles to colorful fish. We also visited a lighthouse, where we climbed to the top and enjoyed stunning views of the ocean.

One of the highlights of the trip was a sunset sailboat ride. We sailed along the coast, watching the sun dip below the horizon as we enjoyed snacks and drinks. It was a magical and peaceful moment, and we all felt so grateful to be together and experience such natural beauty.

We also indulged in some delicious seafood, such as fresh fish and shrimp. We tried local restaurants and cafes, and it was a great opportunity to try new foods and enjoy the local cuisine.

As our trip came to an end, I felt a sense of sadness at leaving the beach town behind. But I also felt grateful for the memories and experiences I had gained with my family. The trip had been a wonderful escape from the stresses of everyday life, and I returned home feeling rejuvenated and grateful for my loved ones.

Until next time, Diary.

Diary Entry Family Trip Example #2

I just got back from an amazing family trip to a national park, and it was an adventure that I will never forget. We spent our days exploring the park’s natural wonders and enjoying quality time together as a family.

The park was breathtaking, with towering mountains, cascading waterfalls, and lush forests. We went on hikes of varying difficulty levels, enjoying the fresh air and stunning views. We saw all kinds of wildlife, from deer to elk to bear cubs.

One of the highlights of the trip was a white-water rafting excursion. We went down a river and navigated rapids, feeling the rush of adrenaline as we splashed through the water. It was a thrilling and unforgettable experience that we all enjoyed.

We also enjoyed camping and being in nature. We set up tents and cooked meals over a campfire. At night, we stargazed and talked about our favorite parts of the day. It was a great way to disconnect from technology and connect with each other.

As we explored the park, we learned about the importance of conservation and preserving our natural resources. It was a valuable lesson that we all took to heart, and we felt grateful for the opportunity to experience such natural beauty.

As our trip came to an end, I felt a sense of sadness at leaving the park behind. But I also felt grateful for the memories and experiences I had gained with my family. The trip had been a wonderful adventure, and I returned home feeling closer to my loved ones and inspired to explore more of the world around me.

Diary Entry Family Trip Example #3

I just returned from an incredible family trip to a city known for its rich history and culture. We spent our days exploring museums, landmarks, and neighborhoods, and it was a great way to learn and have fun together as a family.

The city was beautiful, with old buildings, cobblestone streets, and beautiful parks. We visited museums and learned about the city’s history, from its founding to its role in shaping the nation. We also visited landmarks such as monuments and memorials, which were humbling and awe-inspiring.

We also enjoyed the city’s vibrant culture and cuisine. We tried new foods, from local street vendors to fancy restaurants. We also explored neighborhoods, such as Chinatown and Little Italy, which were full of energy and life.

One of the highlights of the trip was a bike ride along a river that ran through the city. We rented bikes and rode along the path, enjoying the beautiful views of the city skyline. It was a great way to stay active and see the city from a different perspective.

As we explored the city, we learned about the importance of diversity and the value of different perspectives. We encountered people from all walks of life and saw the richness of different cultures, languages, and experiences.

As our trip came to an end, I felt a sense of sadness at leaving the city behind. But I also felt grateful for the memories and experiences I had gained with my family. The trip had been a wonderful adventure, and I returned home feeling closer to my loved ones and inspired to explore more of the world around me.

A trip with family is like a magic box full of surprises and joy. It gives us time to be with our loved ones and make memories that we keep in our hearts forever. I will tell you about a trip that I took with my family that was very special to me.

Before the trip, we sat together to choose a place. We decided on a hill station filled with green trees and cold air. My little sister was excited about seeing monkeys, and I was looking forward to the long walks and beautiful views.

The Journey Begins

We packed our bags with warm clothes and snacks. The car ride was long, but we sang songs and played games. When we reached, the sight of the tall mountains made us all smile. Our hotel was cozy, and we could see the whole town from our window.

500 Words Essay on Memorable Trip With Family

Introduction to a special journey.

Once in a while, we all go on trips that stay in our hearts forever. I want to share a story about a very special journey I took with my family. It was not just a trip to a place but a trip filled with laughter, fun, and love that brought us all closer.

Planning Our Adventure

The excitement began weeks before we left. My parents, my little brother, and I sat around the dining table, looking at maps and pictures of the mountains. We decided to visit a hill station where we could see the snow. The idea of playing in the snow made my brother and me very happy. We packed our warmest clothes, some snacks, and a camera to capture every moment.

Starting the Trip

The day we left, we woke up early, and the air was filled with a buzz of energy. We all helped load the car with our bags. As we drove out of the city, buildings and busy roads gave way to open fields and blue skies. We played games and sang songs in the car, and the journey felt short because we were having so much fun.

First Impressions

When we reached the hill station, it was like stepping into a picture. Everything was so beautiful and peaceful. The mountains stood tall, covered in a blanket of white snow. We could see our breath in the cold air, and the tips of our noses turned pink. We checked into a small hotel with a view of the snowy peaks.

Fun in the Snow

The next day, we wore our boots and jackets and went out to play in the snow. We made a snowman and had a snowball fight. My brother and I laughed so much our sides hurt. My parents joined in, and for a moment, they seemed just like kids too. We also tried skiing, and even though I fell many times, it was one of the best things I have ever done.

Apart from playing in the snow, we explored the local market and tried new foods. We met friendly people who told us stories about life in the mountains. One night, we sat under the stars, wrapped in blankets, sipping hot chocolate. It was quiet except for the sound of the wind. We talked about everything and nothing, and it was perfect.

Unforgettable Memories

On the last day, we didn’t want to leave. We took a lot of photos, but the best pictures are the ones in my mind. I remember the feel of the cold snow in my hands, the sound of my family laughing, and the warmth of the hugs we shared.

Conclusion: The Journey Home

The trip home was quiet as we were all a little sad it was over. Yet, there was a sense of joy because we had made memories that would last a lifetime. This trip with my family was more than just a holiday; it was a treasure chest of moments that I will always hold dear. Every time I think about it, I smile, and it reminds me of the love we share and the fun we had together. It was, indeed, the most memorable trip with my family.

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

Our Mom Is 75. We’re Moving Heaven and Earth for This Eclipse.

A drawing of women in solar-eclipse sunglasses, staring at the sky.

By Kathleen Lenihan and Maureen Lenihan Rust

Ms. Lenihan is a former high school history teacher and an elected member of the School Committee in Lexington, Mass. Ms. Rust is a senior manager for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

If all goes according to plan, on Monday, our 75-year-old mother, Nancy, will be settled into a lawn chair in Waco, Texas — some 1,300 miles from her recliner in Las Vegas — and joining a great many other Americans as they put on solar eclipse glasses, tilt their heads up and try to make sense of what’s happening in the heavens.

None of this was a given. Fiercely independent and more than a little skeptical of hype, fads and feverish mass events, our mother is not what you’d call a joiner. Like many of her generation, she has seen a lot in life; she knows what it’s like to have high expectations and be let down. But she also knows the coming eclipse is neither trend nor fad. Planning to see it has united our family in a desire to participate in a mass event that is a wonder of the world.

Part of the drive to take our mother to Waco is the hard truth of time. Partial eclipses come and go, but the next awe-inspiring and captivating total eclipse will not be seen again in the contiguous United States until 2044. Our mother is in variable health and disabled. Absent good luck and medical advancements, odds are heavily stacked against her living to see another one.

Retirement for our mom came with familiar features — more time for her hobbies, rooting for her favorite teams and vacations that cater to disabled individuals. But this planned excursion is different. A cruise can bill itself as a “once-in-a-lifetime adventure” and then offer many dates on the calendar for the same adventure. No matter how many exhilarating experiences a person has collected in 75 years, this one will stand apart.

Her body may be broken, but our mother is still the experience-seeker she has always been. She left home at 18 for a college a thousand miles away, traveled alone to the Middle East and never met a boat, big or small, she didn’t love.

These days, our mom can barely walk. She moves around via a scooter. Her back is so damaged from osteoporosis and an unsuccessful surgery that she cannot sleep, stand or sit without pain. Still, she remains the same stubborn and determined person she has always been. Years ago, this meant going to law school at the age of 40, traveling the world as a divorced single woman and starting her own business just shy of her 50th birthday. Now it means bristling when we mentioned that we are coming from our homes in Massachusetts and California to “take” her to see the eclipse.

“I decided I was going, so I am going,” she told us. “Compliant” and “rule-following” are words not generally used to describe our mom. It wasn’t true when she was a girl at Catholic school, and it certainly isn’t true now with her adult children.

As for us, we don’t always feel like dutiful children. Sure, we send flowers for Mother’s Day and her birthday. We try to speak at least weekly with our mother, but we also frequently end up in yelling matches over politics. In those moments, we tell her she has lost her mind, and she wonders aloud where she went wrong in raising us. Although we visit every Thanksgiving and Christmas, we have never vacationed together as adults. The daily demands of work and our own children long ago got in the way, and those yelling matches are wearying. It’s easy to end a phone call. It’s much harder to stop an uncomfortable conversation at the dinner table.

Despite all that, we have spent more than a year making the arrangements to escort her to this phenomenon of nature. Flights, rental cars and a wheelchair-friendly rental house have been booked since last spring. Most important, we identified an eclipse event at Baylor University in Waco that could handle my mom’s needs while giving us the best chance to view the eclipse under clear skies. We asked the organizers so many questions about walkways, bathrooms, seating and parking that a representative replied via email, “I can see you are putting a lot of thought into making this happen for your mom.” It is a lot of planning, but then my mom (and dad) did the same for four children. Our childhood was filled with trips to see the birthplaces of presidents, Thomas Edison’s workshop, Civil War battlefields, the U.S. Mint and more. Now, like many people in their 40s and 50s, we’ve reversed our roles.

Our mother stayed home when two of her children viewed the solar eclipse in 2017 in Jackson Hole, Wyo. They came back with tales of an event so transformational, she knew she wanted to witness the next one for herself.

People who have never seen a total eclipse are often befuddled by all the hoopla. They most likely recall a partial solar eclipse from childhood — a vague memory of seeing a strange, shadowy impression of the sun through cheap paper sunglasses. But a total solar eclipse is a singularly spectacular phenomenon. The sky darkens, the temperatures drop, and birds fall silent. Viewers can stare directly in the direction of the sun without any eye protection for the minutes of “totality,” when the moon completely covers the sun. Indeed, the only time a human being can see the entire daytime sky is during a total solar eclipse. As Dr. David Grinspoon, now senior scientist for Astrobiology Strategy at NASA, explained to a reporter in 2017, “It’s like the veil comes off the heavens for a minute.” A total eclipse is so outside the realm of normal human experience that in the minutes of totality in 2017, we shouted out in delight and spontaneously hugged each other. Many of us that day had not fully understood that the universe could put on such a wondrous display.

Knowing all that, our mother is saving her strength. She booked a business class flight to Texas to ease her pain, and she is sitting out most of Waco’s pre-eclipse weekend festivities. She will skip the planned science talks. Instead, she will rest for most of the morning and plan to arrive on Baylor’s campus just in time to see the start of the eclipse.

We inherited the desire to explore our world from our mother. The need to care for her now is just as deeply woven into our psyche. Over the past year of planning, the eclipse became less about science for us and more about ensuring that our mother finally has this experience of a lifetime.

Kathleen Lenihan, the eldest of Nancy’s four children, is an elected member of the Lexington, Mass., School Committee. Maureen Lenihan Rust, the second of Nancy’s four children, is a senior manager for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
