The best way to reduce the number of traffic accidents is to raise the age limit for younger drivers and to lower the age limit for aged drivers. Do you agree ?

Traffic accidents are on the rise these days. Most of the accidents injuries or death. Research have found that most of the accidents are caused by inexperienced drivers, for example young drivers.

The government should encourage the driving to conduct driving lessons for drivers for a longer period. This will give them a clear picture about how accidents happen and teach them about the safety of others on the road. Drivers that have been in an accident after drunk driving should be from driving for at least two years and be given driving lessons again.

To conclude, I feel that to raise the of young drivers not the best solution but to about the problems they may encounter on the road and to ban them from driving if they have caused an accident due to carelessness. As for the drivers, as long as they are capable on the road before a certain age and there are no health issues there shouldn’t be a problem.

Road accidents are an unfortunate reality of our lives. The daily news reports generally contain at least one incident of a road accident. Depending on the severity of the accident, the number of casualties and the damage done can be concerning. Road accidents cost a lot of lives and property damage. To avoid accidents, everyone should be more careful and vigilant on the streets. As a driver, one must be extra cautious because one mistake from the driver can cost the lives of innocent others. 

  The Road Accident That I Experienced

I remember the first road accident I witnessed. It had changed my perspective on life. I still remember the date and the day very intricately. It was the 20th of September 2016. I was returning home from tuition. My mother had come to pick me up. It was around 6 o'clock in the evening. When we reached the bus stand, we saw a huge crowd of people at a few feet of distance from the bus stop. There were men in the crowd who were screaming in the regional language. 

At first, we couldn't understand what was going on. After a while of careful overhearing of the conversation of everyone near us, we could understand that there was an accident. So to get to the bottom of it we asked a shopkeeper what had  happened. He told us that indeed an accident took place a while ago. He then went on to give us a detailed event of what happened. According to him, a pedestrian was crossing the road. A passenger's bus had hit him. The man was left bleeding on the street. The people in the area then cornered the bus and assaulted the bus driver. The police were called to the scene. As for the pedestrian, when the police came over, they declared the man dead. However, as a formality, they sent him to the hospital but according to the shopkeeper, there is not much hope for a miracle. 

This incident made me realize how fragile life is. It could very well have been me or my loved one instead of that man.  The man was not at fault as he was following the rules, but because of the ignorance of another careless man, he had to lose his life. This incident has left a scar on my mind which still bothers me at times. 

Road accidents are a fairly tragic event that has dangerously increased in numbers nowadays. Today, there are more automobiles on the streets than ever. Some say that this increase in the number of automobiles is the reason the number of road accidents is increasing too. Some others say that people nowadays have become more careless, this leads to a higher number of accidents due to carelessness. Another problem that is very prevalent in India is the lack of civic sense in people. People in the cities of India do not strictly adhere to the traffic rules; some people also lack the basic road sense. On top of that, certain parts of the city have narrow roads. All these add up to increase road accidents.

Description of Road Accident:

Road accidents are scary for our lives. In recent times it has increased more. Every morning when you open a newspaper every second or third page will have news related to road accidents. The reason for increasing road accidents is due to the fact that people are buying more automobiles and have also become careless while driving vehicles.

Many a time we have seen that people are just avoiding following traffic rules. Especially in metropolitan cities, people are more careless while driving vehicles which ultimately lead to road accidents.

The foremost causes of road accidents in such metropolitan areas can be narrow roads and roads with potholes.

Thus a road accident damages the lives of life and material. People should be very careful while driving or walking on the road.

It is also seen that walking on the road is also equally dangerous because of heavy traffic it can also be harmful to the people walking on the road. Hence, such people should walk on the side of the road or walk on footpaths.

Road Accident Incident:

Once I was coming back from my office at that time when I witnessed a road accident. I was with my co-worker and it was around 6 o’clock in the evening. In the middle of the road, we saw a crowd surrounding something. We weren’t sure what was happening as the first thought that came to our mind was that it was probably a quarrel between two groups of people but then after reaching the spot, we found that an accident had taken place. 

After talking with the people present there, we came to know that a man who was crossing the road met with an accident while crossing the road. A truck passing by hit him leaving him with serious injuries. The man was lying on the ground bleeding and people were calling for an ambulance, plus they also informed the police about the incident. 

Subsequently, the police arrived and caught the driver of the truck as people had already taken a hold of the driver. During the investigation with the driver, the cops came to know that the driver was drunk and was driving the vehicle. Later on, cops detained him and took the injured person to the nearest hospital, and took a statement from the injured person. The driver was released later based on the statement given by the person. That incident made me realize how precious our lives are and we must be very careful when we are walking on the road, on foot, or driving a car.

  Prevention from Road Accidents:

There are some most important points that every person should keep in mind while driving or walking or crossing the road. These points are as follows:

Drive within the prescribed speed limit.

Don’t drink or smoke while driving.

Follow all the traffic rules as they are for our safety.

Never use mobile phones while driving a vehicle.

Always drive in the proper lane.

While riding a bike always wear a helmet.

To reduce road death and injuries the corporation of the respective cities should see that city roads are connecting areas properly and constructed compactly. The sides of the road should be constructed broad and vendors or any cattle should be avoided who block the roads because sometimes due to unwanted cattle’s road death and fatal injuries might occur.

4.  How should an injured person be treated?

If someone is injured at that time first check the severity of the casualty accordingly and give the treatment. If the person is having normal injuries, first treat him/her with first aid and in the matter of serious injuries call an emergency ambulance.

5.  Why is it important to give First Aid immediately after the accident?

To promote instant relief and to avoid any further damage as well as for speedy recovery it is recommended to give first aid treatment immediately after the accident. This can help to reduce the fatal level of the injuries before getting emergency treatment.  As it is not always possible that emergency care reaches the victim within an hour. In that case, the people who are available next to the victim can give him/her first aid treatment to save his/her life.

One such incident that I witnessed a few years ago still lingers in my mind, a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of road safety. In a desperate attempt to avoid a direct collision, the rider veered to the left but ended up crashing into a nearby car. The Immediate Aftermath

The scene that followed was one of chaos and panic. The sound of the crash had drawn the attention of everyone nearby. Pedestrians screamed, and drivers honked, creating a cacophony of noise. I stood frozen, my heart racing, as I processed what I had just witnessed.

Several people rushed towards the injured rider and the occupants of the car, trying to offer assistance. I remember the overwhelming sense of helplessness as I watched them dial emergency numbers, their voices urgent and shaky. The driver of the car, visibly shaken but uninjured, stepped out to check on the rider, who lay still on the pavement.

Within minutes, the wail of sirens filled the air as an ambulance and police cars arrived at the scene. The medical team quickly attended to the rider, who was fortunately still alive but seriously injured. The police cordoned off the area, redirecting traffic and starting their preliminary investigation into the cause of the accident.

Reflections on the Incident

As the adrenaline faded and I continued my journey home, the gravity of what I had witnessed began to sink in. It was a sobering reminder of how quickly a normal day could turn tragic due to a moment of carelessness. The rider’s decision to speed and beat the red light had not only endangered his life but also those of others around him.

This incident highlighted the critical importance of road safety measures, such as obeying traffic signals, wearing helmets, and driving within speed limits. It also underscored the unpredictable nature of road accidents and the need for both drivers and pedestrians to remain vigilant at all times.

In the days that followed, I found myself more cautious and aware of my surroundings while walking or riding in a vehicle. The accident served as a powerful lesson on the consequences of negligence on the road and the collective responsibility we share in preventing such tragedies.

The road accident I witnessed was a stark reminder of the thin line between life and death and the impact of our choices behind the wheel. It taught me the importance of road safety, not just as a set of rules to follow, but as a commitment to protecting ourselves and others. Road accidents have always been a significant matter of concern, so much so that there is an idea that says the problem can only be solved by punishing driving offenders very strictly. However, I do not think this is the only solution, although it could be somewhat effective.

On the one hand, it could be helpful to apply serious penalties to reduce the risk of traffic accidents. Theoretically, this not only can prevent lawbreakers from driving thoughtlessly again but also can warn other people against doing that. For example, since 2019, when Vietnam laid down strict legislation on alcohol consumption control, the number of crashes caused by drunkenness has decreased. According to this law, drivers will receive a fine of at least 85 USD for motorcycles and 255 USD for cars if their blood or breath contains alcohol, besides having their driving licence confiscated.

On the other hand, the above-mentioned solution is not always successful, hence an alternate measure should be proposed. Research conducted in Queensland, Australia, in 2019 shows that traffic infringements did not decrease despite the imposition of serious penalties, suggesting that people’s aggressive driving habits were not successfully deterred. Therefore, another measure is needed, and from my perspective, we ought to think about banning private vehicles, at least in a number of areas. This not only contributes to the reduction of road accident risks but also helps to ease environmental problems.

In brief, imposing strict punishments on driving offences could be helpful, but only to a certain extent. Since this method cannot defeat reckless driving, another proposal ought to be made, such as prohibiting personal vehicles.

Therefore, serious measures have to be taken by the authorities to control traffic and promote the use of public transport. Development of public transport network at economical rates is essential. Implementation of traffic safety rules by traffic police is a must. People should drive more sensibly and responsibly. Hence we all can work in this way to solve the big threat of the current time.

My father and I only argued about one thing regularly: his driving. Because he had epilepsy.

In 1948, when my father was 17, he fell out of a moving car. He was in a coma for three days. A dime-sized titanium plate was put in his skull. Thirteen years later he started having both petit and grand mal seizures.

I was 9 years old when I first saw him have a seizure. He was driving the two of us in East Salinas and an elderly man with a cane was walking across the road. Suddenly my father slumped down with his head on his chest. The elderly man saw us coming at him. He rushed forward and tapped the side of our car with his cane as it nearly hit him. I knew nothing about cars but as we continued off the side of the road I slammed my left foot down on the brakes so hard we both smashed our heads against the windshield.

That was the first of my father’s car accidents. His license was taken away after it happened. Despite being a rule-abiding person, he drove anyway. He didn’t do any of the other things he wasn’t supposed to do because of his epilepsy, such as swim, take baths or jog. Eventually he got his driver’s license back.

In those days epilepsy was treated with phenobarbital and Dilantin. My father hated taking them because they caused side effects including memory issues and receding gums. His solution was to cut the dose, which caused more seizures. Most of his seizures were small — only a few in his life were grand mal — and he told me that his triggers were not taking his meds, being exhausted, over-exercising, drinking alcohol and thinking about multiple things at once.

When I was in my 30s, my father became the principal at the school where he had taught for close to 10 years. I made a deal with his secretary that she would tell me when he had seizures. My family and I were surprised at how frequent they were, sometimes more than one a week. He’d never tell us about them.

Given how often he had seizures, and his periodic car accidents, we wondered how my father was able to keep his driver’s license. It turned out he lied to his doctor. As many people do, about all kinds of things. My father would tell his doctor he had been seizure-free for three months, and his doctor would indicate that on paperwork, which allowed him to keep his license.

My whole family agreed he shouldn’t drive. I would bring up the issue often, and he’d say, “If all of you had your way I’d be locked in a back room and do nothing.”

My father was stubborn and independent, both of which made him hold onto driving. But those are excuses — there’s no justification. Even though he lived alone he could have used public transportation, carpooled or asked us for rides.

In 1998, when he was 67, my father had his final seizure while driving. He caused an accident, killing the driver of the other car, and himself. The passenger in his car was severely injured and spent months in the hospital before she died. It was all shocking, unnecessary and horrible.

I was the executor of his estate, what little there was of it after the legal fees and medical bills stemming from the crash. To disperse money to my father’s beneficiaries I had to close his bank account, which required presenting a death certificate at his bank. The woman assisting me said, “Your father was so young?”

“Car accident,” I said and then added: “He had a seizure while driving. He had no business driving. He killed other people.”

She looked horrified and turned pale. She looked around and then opened her desk drawer and took out two pill containers. She teared up as she showed them to me.

Phenobarbitol and Dilantin. She had epilepsy.

She said that she had two kids and that having an accident while driving was her greatest fear. We both started crying, and I thought that anyone watching us would think getting a loan at this bank must be tough as hell.

Not long ago I ran into an old friend. As we were catching up they told me they had been diagnosed with epilepsy a while back. They’ve told their doctor it’s been more than three months since their last seizure, and they are approved to drive. I can’t help but wonder whether what they told their doctor is true.

I-45 was closed for hours after driver of stalled car hit and killed, police say

LA MARQUE, Texas (KTRK) -- Traffic was backed up in the La Marque area after a deadly crash involving a pedestrian sparked a total closure on the I-45 Gulf Freeway for hours on Thursday morning.

Police said the driver of a vehicle that stalled on one side of the freeway attempted to cross the main lanes to the other side. That's when they were hit by multiple vehicles.

Officials noted that the area is undergoing construction, and there are no emergency shoulders in the area, so the driver had nowhere to pull over.

Because of the construction, drivers near the closure don't have anywhere to exit, resulting in a standstill.

All of the northbound and southbound lanes were closed near FM-519 until about 12:15 p.m., when the lanes were reopened. ABC13 cameras captured many people standing outside of their vehicles on the freeway. Some of them said they had been stuck for over three hours.

ABC13 reporter Chaz Miller spoke to some of the drivers standing on the freeway. Many of them are UTMB Health employees.

"I pulled up at 6:18 a.m., and it was backed up. It had already started. The people in the front have been there since 6:05 a.m.," Chanel Travino, who works for UTMB, said. "A few people made it to the island, so they are running the rooms that they can, but a lot of the doctors are stuck out here, too."

The backed-up vehicles started to slowly move again shortly before 10 a.m. They were being directed down the entrance ramp the wrong way.

Drivers were directed to take Highway 3 as an alternate route.

To conduct various types of research, it is necessary to be able to select quality sources. They should not only correspond to the studied topic but also have several other criteria. For example, the most common standard for selecting articles is the date of their writing. Besides, they must be peer-reviewed and published either in well-known journals or in large databases. Finally, it is necessary to carry out a qualitative and critical assessment of the text, for which various kinds of tools, such as CASP, can be used. The purpose of this presentation is to select an article on the topic of road traffic accidents, a summary of it, and a critical assessment using the tool above.

The road safety situation is a complex problem, which is simultaneously influenced by many factors. However, over the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic is the largest global factor affecting all areas.

The economic one has suffered the most from these changes since, in many countries, the disease has led to the establishment of quarantine and lockdown. Accordingly, thanks to these measures, the roads have become significantly empty, and road traffic has decreased.

However, road safety is still relevant since reduced traffic simultaneously allows better compliance with traffic rules and provides dangerous driving opportunities.

The purpose of this paper is to develop questions for professionals about the impact of COVID-19 on road safety now and in the future.

The economy is directly related to road safety performance because, in an environment of increased risk of injury and death, economic communication cannot develop at a normal pace. However, the reverse is also true, as with reduced economic activity, traffic on the roads decreases.

In general, research suggests the following positive effects of economic downturns: reduced vehicle mileage, fewer drivers, more careful driving due to lesser consumption of alcohol, and fewer cars sold.

Research on the relationship between COVID-19 and road travel is sparse and contradictory. In different states, statistics say both increases in mortality and a significant decrease in road accidents. This difference is due to different topographic conditions, driving culture, police work, and other factors that must be taken into account and investigated to obtain accurate data.

However, to apply such data to the study of the current traffic situation, it is necessary not only to combine various regional factors but also to consider the peculiarities of the problem with COVID-19. Since all available research was carried out under normal conditions unrelated to a pandemic, it cannot be fully applied.

First of all, this is due to the economic crisis scale and the unprecedented drop in global GDP.

Secondly, the current situation is strongly influenced by the closure of state borders and the introduced social distancing measures. In the context of COVID-19, some groups of people are more sensitively affected by the economic downturn, such as emergency workers, who are at greater risk due to the need for contact.

Therefore, a detailed analysis of this situation requires using an interactive model that explores personal and situational factors to identify research questions about the impact of the pandemic on road safety.

The news is full of regular speeding, stunt driving, news reports conducted mostly by young people. Statistics show that there has been a 30% increase in the number of drivers exceeding 100 miles per hour in the United States.

First of all, such risky behavior is associated with low traffic, which allows you to speed up more safely and perform various tricks without fear of affecting the surrounding stream.

On the other hand, there is the problem of novice drivers, for whom COVID-19 is a sudden change in the environment on the roads.

This factor can also be considered from two sides since the coronavirus simultaneously makes it possible to learn how to drive safely in a more relaxed environment but does not prepare drivers for heavy traffic conditions.

Other personal factors need to be addressed, such as the impact of COVID-19 on older drivers’ skills or the increased risks to children.

Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the general factors of mortality and violations of the law and trends related to gender, age, and belonging to one or another subgroup.

General factors of the situation are manifested, for example, in the rejection of public transport, since it is difficult to maintain social distancing in it. Consequently, people use private vehicles, but it is unclear if people will return to using buses after the pandemic.

Besides, at the moment, the number of small vehicles like motorcycles, which are objects of increased danger, is rising.

The coronavirus situation also affects police units, whose staff is being cut due to illness, which reduces overall road safety. In addition, in an accident, people may be afraid to receive help from medical facilities due to the dangers of exposure to COVID-19.

Thus, it is necessary to investigate this situation at various groups to analyze the coronavirus’s impact on them concerning road safety. This requires a massive analysis of the case from the perspective of different vulnerable societies.

This study raises many important questions and highlights the difficulties in analyzing traffic about COVID-19.

Economic factors are just one of many that can affect road safety. In addition to them, it is necessary to consider personal characteristics, including from the point of view of gender, age, culture, and situational, linking various subgroups of society with the general situation.

Studying these areas will allow road safety specialists to optimize both the current situation and develop measures for further work. Underlining a lot of problems and setting a lot of tasks is the strength of this paper.

Thanks to this work, many studies can be carried out that will help stabilize the traffic situation. However, this review suffers from a lack of statistics to back up the authors’ words. On the other hand, such data exist in minimal quantities, so the authors use other sources and previously developed concepts, citing many of them, which is also a strong point.

This paper is not a randomized controlled trial; however, it meets part of the points for it.

The study addressed a directed question to analyze the factors affecting the traffic situation connected with COVID-19 to develop strategies to improve the situation.

By using a large number of sources, the potential for bias was eliminated.

All used sources included in the paper were taken into account after the study.

Since there were no specific participants, it is impossible to talk about someone’s “blindness.”

The sources reviewed were documents of various sizes; however, each was taken into account and considered with the same degree of attention due to a precise sequence of research and reasoning.

All available research results were addressed intelligibly and detailed through careful analysis of each source.

However, it should be noted that some critical data are missing to help address this situation in more detail. In particular, there are no statistical results from studies on the impact of the economic downturn due to COVID-19 on road safety.

However, all results were analyzed as clearly as possible, and no prejudice or misunderstanding was revealed. Therefore, it can be noted that the advantages of the method used outweigh its cost.

Finally, the results identified can indeed help solve some of the problems at the local level. While the strategies identified are more applicable globally, if properly managed, they can be applied within the people of the system. Besides, due to the small number of studies on this topic, the current research is likely to be very useful for the study population.

Therefore, this article describes methods and strategies to improve the traffic situation concerning the effects of COVID-19. This area is mostly unexplored, so research on economic downturns was used for this analysis.

However, for the full development of effective methods, it is also necessary to consider the personal and situational impact of COVID-19, expressed in such factors as driving culture, age, and gender, the influence of specific groups of people in the general context. Collaborative efforts of researchers and public and private sectors are needed to collect data further, develop, and implement tactics in the realities of COVID-19.

Although this article is more of a systematic analysis, it can still be assessed for the most part using the CASP tool. This work has a defined question, although it does not correspond to the RCT type. It allows a specific study using a particular methodology, namely a systematic analysis of available sources. The results obtained have been correctly processed and are valuable for both local and global societies and populations.

Barbers hailed as heroes for rescuing toddler from oncoming traffic

Two barbers in East Hartford, Connecticut are being hailed as heroes after they ran to save a young child who was walking on a street toward traffic on a busy intersection.

According to local police, barbers Osvaldo Lugo and Rafael Santana of LookSharp Barbershop were cutting hair when they noticed the child and ran to the toddler's aid.

"👏 Heroic Barbers to the Rescue! 👏 Today, we want to give a massive shoutout to the quick-thinking and brave duo, Osvaldo Lugo and Rafael Santana of LookSharp Barbershop. Their swift action saved a little toddler who had escaped from his mother and started moving towards traffic on Main Street," the East Hartford Police Department wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday. "Thanks to them, a potential tragedy was averted, and a family remains whole. We're incredibly grateful for these everyday heroes among us! 💈🚸."

Lugo shared security camera footage of the incident, which took place near the corner of Brown Street and Main Street, in an Instagram reel . In the post's caption, he wrote that he was "still a little shaken up" by the "scary experience."

Lugo later told ABC New Haven affiliate WTNH he had happened to glance out the window while in the middle of a haircut and didn't think twice about rushing outside when he noticed the child. He managed to pick up the child before anything happened and said he was able to track down the child's mother, who hadn't realized they had wandered away, at a nearby bus stop.

"The mom lost track for one quick second. It happens. It's happened to me before," Lugo said.

Woman fatally struck while trying to cross I-95 near downtown Miami, causing traffic delays

MIAMI (WSVN) - A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle while trying to cross Interstate 95 near downtown Miami, causing significant traffic delays, authorities said.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a white SUV collided with the pedestrian along the northbound lanes near Northwest Second Street, just before the Biscayne Boulevard exit, at around 6:30 a.m.

Investigators said the woman was killed on impact.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle involved were visibly distressed, sitting on the roadside as troopers responded.

Following the collision, City of Miami Police officers temporarily shut down all northbound lanes, causing extensive hours-long delays back toward U.S. 1, from where I-95 begins. All lanes have since reopened to traffic.

FHP continues to investigate the incident.

SINGAPORE: A 42-year-old car driver  will be charged in court on Thursday (Apr 25) with four offences over his involvement in Monday's multi-vehicle accident in Tampines that killed two people. 

The offences under the Road Traffic Act include dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing hurt, the police said late on Wednesday.

He will also be charged with dangerous driving and failing to stop after an accident. 

Police investigations are ongoing for other potential offences.

The offence of dangerous driving causing death carries a jail term of between two and eight years, as well as disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.

The offence of dangerous driving causing hurt carries a fine of up to S$10,000, or jail for up to two years, or both, as well as disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.

Those found guilty of dangerous driving face a fine of up to S$5,000, a jail term of up to 12 months, or both.

The offence of failing to stop after an accident carries a fine of up to S$1,000, or an imprisonment term of up three months, or both for each of the offences.

LICENCE SUSPENDED

The accident, which happened at the junction of Tampines Avenue 1 and Avenue 4 on Monday morning, involved four cars, a van and a minibus.

CNA understands that the 42-year-old was driving the black Saab that was caught on dashcam footage speeding and sideswiping a white car before a junction. 

Moments later, multiple vehicles are seen damaged at the junction, with a black car overturned.

In an earlier statement in response to media queries, the police said the man was arrested after he was discharged from hospital on Wednesday. His driving licence was also suspended with immediate effect.

A 17-year-old student at Temasek Junior College and a 57-year-old woman were killed. Six others were taken to hospital, including the driver.

Those injured included the father of the 17-year-old Temasek JC victim, a 64-year-old van driver, an 11-year-old car passenger and an 11-year-old minibus passenger.

According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), a person was found with one leg trapped under the wheel of a car. Officers had to use hydraulic rescue equipment to free the person's leg. 

PUBLIC CONCERN

Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee that oversees transport, Saktiandi Supaat said on Wednesday evening that he has raised several parliamentary questions to the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). 

Among them is whether the authorities will consider stricter enforcement measures or legislative changes to “ensure greater accountability” and discourage dangerous driving. 

Parliament will next sit on May 7.  

This follows public concern about road safety and penalties under the Road Traffic Act in light of several recent multi-vehicle accidents.

"There have been a number of multi-vehicle accidents lately but the recent cases in Tampines and on the PIE (Pan Island Expressway) on Apr 22 have deeply affected those involved and the wider Singaporean community."

Six people were taken to hospital after an accident along the PIE involving six cars and a taxi. Among the injured was a seven-year-old.

"I strongly believe that meaningful changes must be made to minimise such accidents, whether through revisiting and enhancing current mitigating measures or implementing stricter enforcement to deter dangerous behavior and protect law-abiding motorists and pedestrians alike," he wrote.
