Thankfully, Apple lets you see all of the App Store ratings and reviews you’ve submitted for both iOS apps and Mac apps in one handy spot.

See your App Store ratings and reviews on iPhone and iPad

Follow these steps to view all of the ratings and reviews for apps, podcasts, and services on your iPhone and iPad. Note that this does not include reviews for apps from the Mac App Store.

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Tap your Apple ID tile from the top.
  • Choose Media & Purchases  and pick View Account . Enter your Apple ID password if prompted.
  • Select  Ratings and Reviews .
  • You can scroll to see all the ratings and reviews you’ve submitted with the dates. You cannot edit one or the other on this screen, but you can delete one. Swipe the app from right to left and tap Remove . You will not be asked to confirm the removal, so be sure you want to delete it.

See your Mac App Store ratings and reviews

Apps that you rate and review on the Mac App Store are kept separate from those on your iPhone and iPad.

  • Open the App Store on your Mac and click Store >  Account from the top menu bar. Alternatively, you can click your profile picture from the bottom left of the App Store.
  • Select Account Settings on the top right and enter your Apple ID password if prompted.
  • Scroll down to the Manage section, and you’ll see Ratings and Reviews with the number next to it. Click Manage Ratings and Reviews or Manage next to it to see each individual rating or review. You can sort by rating or recent using the drop-down box at the top.

While you cannot currently edit a rating or review on this screen, you can delete one. Click the Remove link next to it. But be sure you want to remove it because you will not be asked to confirm.

The bottom line.

With faster performance than the mobile site and quicker access to your most-used functions, the official Facebook app is undoubtedly the best way to interact with Facebook from your Android device.

The app keeps getting better, with a fresh new design, improved sharing options and a feature that lets you find your friends who are nearby, so you can meet up easily.

Navigating your News Feed

In earlier versions of the app, the design was similar to Facebook's website, but in recent versions, that's all changed.

Instead of the earlier navigation buttons at the top of the screen for Status, Photo and Check In, there's now a row of five icons that'll take you to different parts of Facebook when you tap them. In order, they are News Feed, People, Messages, Notifications and More.

Just like the full website, the Facebook app opens up to your News Feed, where you can read, hit like and comment on posts. Scroll to the bottom, and your feed automatically reloads, so you can almost seamlessly continue to read old updates. At the bottom of the screen, you'll find options to share a new status or photo, or check in.

From your News Feed you can then swipe left to get to the other tabs. People shows a list of your friends and recommendations of who else to add as a friend, and Notifications shows comments, likes, and other updates. The More tab is where you'll find your Profile, Groups and Pages, Friends list, App Center, Account Settings and other features. Many of these functions you'll use, though some of them you won't want to use while on your mobile device. Still, it's nice to have access to it all, just in case.

Share your thoughts and photos

When you create a status update, the Facebook app lets you add text, tags, photos, and location. As of now, though, you can't add emoji . Also, if you try to add a URL to your post, the app will not add a preview of the linked site the way the Facebook website does, and that's disappointing. If you really want a preview, though, you can share the URL from your mobile browser to the Facebook app, and a preview will automatically be added. While it's certainly great that this workaround exists, the Facebook app should be able to add previews on its own.

In a recent update, Facebook is making it easier to share photos from your phone; just tap the Photo button on the News Feed to get started. Facebook will show you all of the photos on your phone, with the most recent ones at the top. Tap any and all photos you want to upload and you'll see a number on each image, which corresponds to the order in which it will be uploaded and displayed in your post.

Once you're done picking your photos, you can rearrange or delete them, add individual captions, tag friends, add a description to the entire photo set and decide who on Facebook gets to see them. If you want to add them to an album, you can do that too, but they'll get added to your Mobile Uploads album automatically.

When you share your photo post, you'll see a collage of your pictures in the News Feed. Tap on the collage to open a new page with all of the full-size images, where you can add comments, or like each photo.

Facebook for Android also lets you share your friends' posts from your News Feed. To do so, just hit the Share button and add your own thoughts to the post (if you want), then pick an audience setting to share publicly, only with friends and so on.

Find your friends

Nearby Friends is a feature that uses GPS, it shows the approximate location of your friends, grouped by city. It's similar to Apple's Find My Friends feature, which uses your phone's contacts and GPS to plot your friends and family's location on a map.

To use it, you need to enable the feature in the More tab, under Nearby Friends -- Facebook will not automatically turn on this feature for you. You can also turn it on by touching the icon at the top-right of the app, which looks like a person with three lines behind it. That'll open your chat list, and at the top, there's a section for Nearby Friends.

To give your friends a more precise location, you need to manually share your location. To do that, find the friend you want to share with on your Nearby Friends list and tap the tiny navigation icon next to his or her name. You can choose how long you want to share your location (the default is 2 hours), and an optional message. Then, your friend will see your profile photo on a map, marking your exact location. If friends tap on your photo, it goes straight to your profile, where they can message you to get together.

Facebook says the point of all of this is to be able to see which of your friends are nearby so you can have more face-to-face encounters. If that's the case, I wish Facebook launched a new chat when someone touched on a profile picture from the map, or selected a friend from the Nearby Friends list. Going to their profile is an unnecessary step.

Nearby Friends can be useful for finding friends nearby, but it's hard to say how much value it brings. At the very least, you might be able to avoid encounters with people you don't want to see because you'll know roughly where they are.

Instant messaging

Facebook removed all instant messaging features from the main app, forcing you to use its separate Messenger app to chat with your friends. There is still a tab for your message inbox in the app, but you if you open it, you can only see a page telling you that you'll need to download Facebook Messenger to send or receive messages on your phone. Since it's unlikely that Facebook will bring messaging back to the app anytime soon, I wish that the inbox tab would disappear altogether.

Personalize your profile

If you want to change your account settings, the Facebook app offers some options. There is a full Settings menu available, so you can tweak notifications, security and so on. And if you want to change your Cover Photo or profile photo, you can do so right from your Timeline. You can do all of this from the More tab.

Final thoughts

Facebook for Android makes it easy to quickly skim through your News Feed and fire off updates at will, thanks to its helpful sharing features and security tools. You can share your location with your friends, which can prove helpful for impromptu get-togethers. However, the sheer number of steps needed to use that feature makes it feel secure, but still clunky.

Facebook also gets a modern new design that makes it a bit more complicated to use but easier on the eyes. It may still not be the most attractive app on the market, but Facebook for Android certainly does a fine job of helping you stay connected.

EU Antitrust Chief Warns Apple About App Store Fees and Safety Warnings

Key parts of Apple's compliance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) are set to be investigated by European regulators based on developer feedback, the EU's antitrust chief warned on Tuesday.

"There are things that we take a keen interest in, for instance, if the new Apple fee structure will de facto not make it in any way attractive to use the benefits of the DMA. That kind of thing is what we will be investigating," she told Reuters.

Apple enabled alternative app stores in the EU earlier this month , allowing third-party app stores to offer a catalog of other developers' apps as well as the marketplace developer's own apps. Apple also has a new fee structure as part of the change that has already come under fire from several developers and EU associations .

In addition, Vestager warned Apple and other companies against discouraging users from switching to other app marketplaces by disparaging them, saying this kind of behaviour could trigger an investigation. Apple has already claimed some of the DMA-enforced changes could expose users to security risks that they are otherwise protected against when using the App Store.

"I would think of it as unwise to say that the services are not safe to use, because that has nothing to do with the DMA," said Vestager. "The DMA is there to open the market for other service providers to get to you and how your service provider of your operating system, how they will make sure that it is safe is for them to decide." "And of course, if we see or get the suspicion that this is in order to say that someone else are not doing their job of course, we might take initiatives to look into that," she added.

Vestager said feedback from developers was key to whether she would launch investigations into companies that must comply with the DMA. Asked whether she had received any comments from third parties, she replied: "Quite a lot."

Apple's app ecosystem changes in the European Union went into effect with the launch of iOS 17.4 on March 6. Apple has since been tweaking the app ecosystem rules that it introduced based on developer feedback and discussions with EU regulators.

For example, third-party app stores are now able to offer apps directly from their own catalog , and developers will soon be able to distribute apps directly from their websites as long as they meet Apple's requirements.

Apple says it is also working out a solution that would prevent its 0.50 euro Core Technology Fee (CTF) from bankrupting developers if their free app goes viral.

One App Store makes the most sense. Go Android if you don't like it. Open vs closed system. Customers win. Customer lose when they no longer have the option of choosing a closed system.

Instead of making it like ****ing macOS which most developers would be OK with, Apple had to over-complicate it with new lame rules the size of the book and 600 new APIs they are super proud of, just to publish software. Unsurprisingly, Schiller and his extortion exec mafia clique are really to die on that hill. These people have to go.

Drive on Moscow Reappears on App Store

A long time ago, in a mountain fortress far, far away, our benevolent leader Owen fell in love with a series of games from digital newcomer Shenandoah Studios. The games in question would be Battle of the Bulge , Drive on Moscow , and Desert Fox . These were full-blown wargames from tried and tested designers presented with historical accuracy and a not a little bit of panache.

Unfortunately, war games are still a small niche of a niche and Shenandoah ran into financial troubles but were bailed out when they were purchased by Slitherine ( disclosure: I am an ex-Slitherine employee ). Things seemed pretty great until they re-released Battle of the Bulge for both iOS and PC with cross-platform multiplayer. I hadn’t played the re-release, but I know it was met with some frustration from fans of the original.

Enter Drive on Moscow. It was re-released last Friday and, like it’s predecessor, has been refit to include cross-platform multiplayer. It’s also a new app, meaning that the old app has been yanked from the App Store. What this means is that you’ll have to shell out the $10 for Drive on Moscow even if you had already paid for it back when Shenandoah released it in 2013.  Oh, and it’s iPad only now when the original was for iOS Universal. At least now you can play it against folks on their desktops.

So, if you want to re-purchase (or simply purchase) Drive on Moscow, you can nab it for iPad here for $10 . It’s also available on Steam for Windows at the same price .

Actually, I don’t want to break the site on like the third day. I’ll leave it at this: what a shameful development.

I’m of two minds about this kind of thing. I genuinely want game companies to put in the work to keep games accessible as platforms change, and to be paid for the development work that requires. I understand that new purchases of well-supported games will often be too few to justify such work, especially given the current expectation that everything will go on super sale for the patient. So I don’t really have a good model that isn’t this one, and I applaud Shenandoah/Slitherine for exploring ways to keep their seminal games accessible in a viable way.

But, as a consumer who already owns the Crisis in Command series, this does feel like a nail in the (already well-nailed) illusion of ownership, and it particularly sucks that the only reason I’d consider a purchase of one of these re-releases is to escape the bugs introduced when they switched to the new engine.

In my experience this sort of thing predominantly occurs on iOS and is a byproduct of Apples general view that their products should be forced into being obsolete every couple generations, they break games pretty severely on OS updates, and offer no easy solutions for the developers on their platform. Aside from Dungeon Raid (which is playable, but painfully unoptimised as it was originally ported from iOS), i’ve been able to play every Android game I’ve ever owned on every phone I’ve ever owned. At least as far as I recall.

In this regard, Android seems to parallel Windows, while iOS follows a pattern more like consoles. Part of what I’m thinking about here is the upcoming Nintendo Switch, which I’m strongly considering. I don’t have a 3DS, Wii, or Wii U, and I’m hoping Nintendo ports a lot of the best content from those systems to the new one (partly, of course, I’m thinking about Tanner’s extremely appealing review of 3D Picross 2, but I’d also like to be able to share most of the Zelda series with my kids and let them explore some of the other great first-party titles they have). So I’m used to having new hardware obsolete my old games, and having to re-purchase them if I want to play again in that context. I do wonder what pattern is best at encouraging the sorts of development and support I’d find most satisfying.

We learn pretty quickly that updates sometimes don’t ‘up’ anything, and this very issue is the only reason I’ve found to use the TimeMachine backup thingy on my Macbook. To say I have the original versions of “Battle of the Bulge” and “Drive on Moscow” feels akin to declaring I have an Elvis Presley single on vinyl.

The line “ a nail in the (already well-nailed) illusion of ownership ” is superb and couldn’t be more accurate.
