You can do this by highlighting a key achievement or skill that directly relates to the job requirements. For example, "As an Account Manager with a proven track record in maintaining strong client relationships and exceeding sales targets, I am excited about the opportunity to bring my skills to XYZ Company." This not only shows you're qualified but also demonstrates enthusiasm for the role and the company. It's also important to personalize the letter by addressing it to the hiring manager, if their name is available.
Account Managers should end a cover letter by summarizing their qualifications and expressing enthusiasm for the opportunity. They should reiterate their interest in the role and how their skills and experiences align with the job requirements. It's also important to show appreciation for the reader's time and consideration. For instance, "In closing, I am excited about the possibility of bringing my unique blend of skills and experience to your team and am confident I can contribute to your company's success. This ending is assertive yet polite, and it reinforces your interest in the role. Remember, the goal is to leave a lasting impression that sets you apart from other candidates.
An Account Manager's cover letter should ideally be about one page long. This length is sufficient to present a clear and concise overview of your skills, experiences, and why you're a good fit for the role, without overwhelming the hiring manager with too much information. Remember, the cover letter is your opportunity to make a strong first impression, so it's important to keep it focused and relevant. As an Account Manager, you should highlight your ability to build and maintain client relationships, manage accounts, and drive sales, all while demonstrating your understanding of the company and the industry.
Writing a cover letter with no experience as an Account Manager can seem challenging, but it's definitely achievable. Here's how: 1. Start with a strong introduction: Begin your cover letter by introducing yourself and expressing your interest in the Account Manager position. Mention where you saw the job posting and why you're interested in the role. 2. Highlight relevant skills: Even if you don't have direct experience as an Account Manager, you likely have skills that are relevant to the role. Highlight these in your cover letter. This could include skills such as communication, problem-solving, negotiation, or project management. Use specific examples to demonstrate how you've used these skills in the past. 3. Showcase transferable experience: If you've worked in sales, customer service, or any other role that involves managing relationships or projects, be sure to mention this. Even if the job titles are different, the skills you've gained can be directly applicable to an Account Manager role. 4. Show enthusiasm for the industry: If you're passionate about the industry the company operates in, let this shine through in your cover letter. This can help make up for a lack of direct experience. 5. Research the company: Show that you've done your homework by mentioning something specific about the company that appeals to you. This could be their mission, a recent project, or their company culture. 6. End with a strong conclusion: In your closing paragraph, reiterate your interest in the role and the value you could bring to the company. Also, express your desire for an interview to further discuss your qualifications. 7. Proofread: Finally, make sure to proofread your cover letter for any spelling or grammar mistakes. A well-written, error-free cover letter shows that you're detail-oriented, a crucial skill for an Account Manager. Remember, everyone starts somewhere. Even without direct experience, your unique skills and experiences can make you a strong candidate for an Account Manager role.

How To Write an Account Manager Cover Letter
Your account manager cover letter should usually have five sections, outlined below. When possible, connect each section to the employer and its stated hiring needs. The following advice and examples will show you what to include in your account manager cover letter so it’s optimized for each application.
At the top of the page, include:
- Your resume contact header, which should give your full name, address , email, phone number, and LinkedIn or other social accounts if applicable
- The recipient’s name, title, organization, and contact information (when available)
(Note: Feel free to omit this section when sending your letter as an email message, as long as your contact details are part of your email signature.)
Address your recipient by name – this is the quickest way to signal you’re sending a job-specific letter and not a boilerplate. If you can’t find the person’s name, use a variation of “Dear Hiring Manager” so your greeting is still tailored somewhat to each account manager job opening.
Dear Mr. Abbyson:
Dear BBB Corporate Services Recruiter:
Catch the reader’s attention by citing an achievement from your resume or a key credential the employer seeks in applicants. Then, connect that highlight to your main strengths and overall candidacy for the advertised account manager role. Refer to the hiring organization by name here to further convince the recipient you’re applying to them specifically.
As an alternative to the work highlight approach, you can set yourself apart by networking. Begin your letter by citing any personal or professional connections you have with the hiring manager. If someone at the company alerted you to the job, use a line like “I was excited to hear from your colleague [Name] about [Company]’s new account manager opening.” Or, if you’ve already met your recipient, mention that with a line like “It was great speaking with you at the [event] last month.”
Last year, I spearheaded a project to create a new set of promotional and educational materials that generated a 23% revenue increase. My strong leadership style and comprehensive product knowledge allowed me to lead my team to success. I hope to bring the same vision and industry expertise to the role of account manager at Figma.
On a separate document or sheet of paper, take 10 minutes to brainstorm why this account manager position or employer interests you based on the job posting. When you’re done brainstorming, review your notes: Do any stand out as important or persuasive? Adapt those points into one or two brief paragraphs that speak to the job opening at hand. By making this description a central part of your letter, you’ll have a better chance of persuading the manager to give you a call.
Following this explanation, cite a few more of your account manager skills or achievements , possibly as bullet points.
It was intriguing to learn about Advocate Solutions’s goals for national growth and future potential for exciting career opportunities. I would like to bring my experience in problem resolution and my ability to execute marketing and sales plans to your organization.
- Overseeing and managing over 50 accounts while prospecting up to 200 companies
Finally, request an interview and thank the hiring manager for their time and attention. Consider briefly restating why this account manager job interests you. You can also use this section to refer to your resume or other application materials. To end your cover letter, use a simple closing like “Sincerely” or “Best regards” and then your name.
I’d truly appreciate the opportunity for an interview with you, which would give us a chance to discuss how I can boost BBB Corporate Services’s capabilities in more detail. At your convenience, please let me know if there is a window in the near future that works for your schedule.
Account Manager Cover Letter Tips
The highlight you use to open your letter should reflect your ability to engage customers and build a strong book of business. Name a key way you’ve enhanced client communications, and spell out how that affected your rate of referrals or yearly revenue growth.
During eight years at my current company, I have been humbled by the chance to work with several Fortune 500 clients and thrilled by the success I have found while doing so. My hope is that I can continue down that path of achievement at BBB Corporate Services.
When writing your body paragraph(s), consider what this account manager job has in common with your background. For example, maybe the average account size compares to your current position. Or maybe the role focuses on defining clients’ long-term needs, an area in which you excel. Also, think about how the company’s stated service approach or sales philosophy aligns with your own.
As a seasoned account manager with over 11 years of experience in the online design tool sector, the opportunity to contribute to the success of an innovative and fast-growing company like Figma appeals to me.
Use your bullet points list to show success in other account manager areas like cross-selling or public speaking. With each bullet, describe how you applied the skill to cultivate accounts and grow revenue. For instance, you could show your talent for contract negotiation by giving the dollar amounts of your top three deals in your current job.
I believe the following highlights demonstrate I can be an asset to your account management team:
- Achieving a 98% customer retention rate in 2023 thanks to my strong relationship management skills and outstanding customer service
- Growing revenue from existing clients by 32% by anticipating their business needs and suggesting additional applications of the company’s products and services
What’s the most important part of a cover letter? -
Any explanation you give for why the specific job opening or employer interests you. These details distinguish the cover letter from your resume and other application materials and can help you get past applicant tracking systems . They also set the stage for a good interview discussion about how you fit the role and the office’s work culture.
How long should my cover letter be? -
No more than one page, or around 250 words. Resist the urge to tell your whole career story, even if you have an extensive background as an account manager. Give just enough detail to pique hiring managers’ interest so they take a closer look at your resume.
How do I persuade the hiring manager of my skills? -
Show rather than just tell. Anytime you use a trait like “dedicated” or “client-focused” to describe yourself, follow with a clear example showing the trait in action. Detailed examples of your success help hiring managers envision the value you’ll add to your next job.

- You see, throwing in a bunch of technical mumbo-jumbo or buzzwords thinking they’ll make you look super smart is just going to make things murkier. It kind of makes it seem like you’re trying too hard to pad your piece. The same goes for those clichés and played-out phrases.

Relate to Each Company’s Needs in Your Account Manager Cover Letter
When working with clients, you probably tailor your sales pitches and profit maximization strategies to their specific needs to convert more deals. You should do the same with your cover letter.
While writing your cover letter, focus on each company’s specific requirements mentioned in the job description. Will you be responsible for providing clients with quarterly performance metrics? Then, your ability to analyze data in HubSpot may be essential to include.
Grab attention with the greeting and intro of your account manager cover letter
Structure the intro and greeting of your account management cover letter similarly to how you’d open a proposal to a prospective client. You should relate to specific needs like negotiations and data analysis while showing how those skills will fit the company’s mission.
It’s also best practice to address a specific person, just like you’d want to address clients by name to make your interactions personable. Review the company website or the job description to see if you can find the name of a hiring manager you can address.
What you don’t want to do is write something too generic where it could be written to any company looking for an account manager, like the opener below.
This needs more details!
I saw your account manager job listing and thought right away that I would be the best fit for this opportunity. I have a few years of experience that I would be eager to apply to help you achieve your goals.
Instead, go for an opener like the one below that shows how the candidate is a great fit to help TruGreen achieve its sales goals using specific metrics from experience.
A great opener with specific experiences!
Use the body of your account manager cover letter to sell your experience
You know the business landscape revolves around metrics and results achieved to close deals and show clients why you’re the right solution for their needs. Your cover letter will also require the same types of details.
The body of your account management cover letter should showcase a brief overview of what you’ve achieved in your career that directly relates to the specific needs of each company you’re applying to.
For instance, if the job description mentions improving the client experience, you could explain how you implemented a new client correspondence system with Zendesk to help solve 94% of customer problems within 24 hours, leading to 98% positive satisfaction scores.
A thorough body paragraph with relevant data!
Through precise forecasting, consistent follow-ups, and tactical pitching strategies, I shortened the sales cycle by 44 days, fostering a 6.4% boost in total sales at AutoZone. This was possible through my innovative approach that dived deep into sales trends, reinforcing our sales strategies.
Secure the interview with a strong closing and sign off for your account manager cover letter
When pitching to prospective clients, you know you need strong closing remarks about how your expertise benefitted them, which in turn helped close the sale. The same is true if you want your cover letter to land you an interview for your ideal account management position.
Ideally, your closing should relate to the company mission and how your skills fit their needs. For instance, how you’ll use a consultative selling approach to connect with client needs and achieve company sales goals.
Also, a light call to action at the end, like “I look forward to discussing the position further,” is a good idea to show your interest, just like it helps boost conversions on sales pitches.
The closer below is a good start, but it lacks specifics based on what the company is looking for in account managers.
Doesn’t connect with specific company needs!
I believe my 13 years of experience make me an ideal fit to help you achieve your goals. Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to discussing this account manager position in more detail with you soon.
Joe Douglas
Instead, aim for a closer like the one below that explains exactly how the applicant’s sales growth acumen and customer relations experience fit in with TruGreen’s desire to create a great customer experience.
A highly specific closer that inspires action!
Making who you address as specific as possible is important to show personability, which is a good sign you will relate well with clients. If you’ve analyzed the job description , company website, and social media like LinkedIn and can’t find a hiring manager’s name, you can simply lead with “Dear [company name] hiring manager.”
When working with clients, you probably try to match their tone in correspondence to ensure your message relates well with them. Do the same with your cover letter and match the tone to the job description . For instance, a company with a professional and knowledgeable style would appreciate a more formal cover letter emphasizing data about your work experiences , like how you boosted sales revenue or conversions.
Any work experience related to sales or customer relationship management would show you can succeed as an account manager without direct experience in the role. You could also emphasize knowledge gained through education in degrees like business management or marketing.

Remember that you're writing your account manager cover letter for recruiters - as the Applicant Tracker System won't scan this content.
Here are a few more tips and tricks to keep in mind when formatting your account manager cover letter:
- Use the same font in your account manager cover letter and resume . We recommend modern fonts, e.g. Lato and Rubik, to help you stand out, instead of the stereotypical Arial and Times New Roman.
- Each paragraph should have single spacing, which is already set up for you in our cover letter templates .
- Our cover letter builder follows industry standards for your account manager cover letter formatting - with a one-inch margin, surrounding your content.
- Always export your account manager cover letter in PDF to ensure the image or text quality stays the same and your writing isn't moved about.

How to personalize your account manager cover letter greeting
Before you start writing your account manager cover letter, take the time to find out who is recruiting for the role.
Search for the recruiter's name on LinkedIn or the corporate website to address them personally in your account manager cover letter salutation .
What if you can't find out who's recruiting for the role?
Always aim to avoid the very impersonal "Dear Sir/Madam" - instead, opt out for "Dear HR Team" or "Dear Hiring Manager" to make a better first impression.
List of salutations you can use
- Dear Hiring Manager,
- Dear [Company Name] Team,
- Dear [Hiring Manager's Name],
- Dear [Department] Director,
- Dear Search Committee,
- Dear [Job Title] Hiring Team,
Your account manager cover letter intro: showing your interest in the role
On to the actual content of your account manager cover letter and the introductory paragraph .
The intro should be no more than two sentences long and presents you in the best light possible.
Use your account manager cover letter introduction to prove exactly what interests you in the role or organization. Is it the:
- Company culture;
- Growth opportunities;
- Projects and awards the team worked on/won in the past year;
- Specific technologies the department uses.
When writing your account manager cover letter intro, be precise and sound enthusiastic about the role.
Your introduction should hint to recruiters that you're excited about the opportunity and that you possess an array of soft skills, e.g. motivation, determination, work ethic, etc.
Storytelling in the middle (or body) of your account manager cover letter
You've got your whole resume sorted, detailing your achievements and skills. What else can you write in your account manager cover letter ?
For starters, take the time to re-assess the job requirements and re-discover the most crucial skills and requirements (or keywords).
After making a list of these important keywords, look back on your experience to select just one of your past accomplishments.
Choose the achievement that is the most noteworthy, relevant to the role, and matches the required skills.
Use the next between three and six paragraphs to narrate how:
- you've grown your skill set, thanks to your achievement;
- you'd use the know-how you've gained in your new role;
- your accomplishment could help your potential employers grow.
Remember that recruiters don't need a retelling of your whole resume, but want to find out what makes you, you.
Final words: writing your account manager cover letter closing paragraph
The final paragraph of your account manager cover letter allows you that one final chance to make a great first impression .
Instead of going straight to the "sincerely yours" ending, you can back up your skills with a promise of:
- how you see yourself growing into the role;
- the unique skills you'd bring to the organization.
Whatever you choose, always be specific (and remember to uphold your promise, once you land the role).
If this option doesn't seem that appealing to you, close off your account manager cover letter with a follow-up request.
You could even provide your availability for interviews so that the recruiters would be able to easily arrange your first meeting.
Lacking experience: here's how to write your account manager cover letter
As a candidate with no experience, it's important to be honest from the get-go of your application .
Use your account manager cover letter to sell your unique talents. Choose an accomplishment from your academic background or your volunteer work to show the skills that are relevant to the role.
Focus on your career objectives and how you see the job to align with them. Be specific and, at the same time, realistic about where you picture yourself in five years.

Turning your account manager cover letter into a success is all about staying authentic to yourself and relevant to the job:
- Be creative with your account manager cover letter introduction by stating something you enjoy about the company (that is genuine) or about your skill set (to get the recruiters' interested);
- Use single spacing and have a one-inch margin wrapping all around the content of your account manager cover letter;
- Select just one past achievement from your career or life to tell a story of how you've obtained job-crucial skills and how they'd be beneficial to the role;
- The finishing paragraph of your account manager cover letter doesn't necessarily have to be a signature but could be a promise of what you plan to achieve in the role;
- Instead of focusing on your lack of experience, spotlight your transferable skills, one relevant achievement, and career dreams.

All of the content in this guide is based on data from coaching thousands of job seekers (just like you!) who went on to land offers at the world's best companies.
If you want to maximize your chances of landing that Account Manager role, I recommend reading this piece from top to bottom. But if you're just looking for something specific, here's what's included in this guide:
- What To Know About Writing A Job-Winning Account Manager Cover Letter
- The Best Skills To Include On An Account Manager Cover Letter
How To Address An Account Manager Cover Letter
- 3 Account Manager Cover Letter Examples
The 8 Best Account Manager Cover Letter Templates
- 3 Tips For Writing A Job-Winning Cover Letter
Here's the step-by-step breakdown:
Account Manager Cover Letter Overview: What To Know To Write A Cover Letter That Wins More Job Offers
What do companies look for when they're hiring an Account Manager?
Companies want candidates with a blend of sales, customer service, communication, and technical skills. They look for individuals with a proven track record of delivering results, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage complex relationships. Employers also value industry knowledge and strategic thinking, along with the ability to build strong relationships with customers.
Your cover letter should show the company that your personality and your experience encompasses all of these things.
Additionally, there are a few best practices you want to follow to write a job-winning Account Manager cover letter:
- Customize your letter: Start by addressing the hiring manager by name, if possible, and mention the specific account manager role you are applying for. This shows that you have taken the time to personalize your letter.
- Highlight your qualifications: Emphasize your relevant experience and skills, such as your ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, your experience in sales and account management, and your strong communication skills. Make sure to include measurable metrics and outcomes whenever possible to illustrate your value.
- Demonstrate your knowledge of the company: Show that you have done your research on the company and explain why you are interested in working there. Mention specific projects, products, or services that you admire.
- Be concise and clear: Your cover letter should be short, concise and easy to read. Stick to one page and focus on the most important information.
- End with a call to action: Conclude your cover letter by asking for an interview or expressing your interest in discussing the opportunity further.
- Proofread: Make sure to thoroughly proofread your cover letter for any grammatical errors or typos. A well-written, error-free letter can make a strong first impression. I recommend using Hemingway App to do this.
Let's dive deeper into each of these so you have the exact blueprint you need to see success.
The Best Account Manager Skills To Include On Your Cover Letter
Keywords are one of the most important factors in your cover letter. They show employers that your skills align with the role and they also help format your cover letter for Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).
If you're not familiar with ATS systems, they are pieces of software used by employers to manage job applications. They scan cover letters for keywords and qualifications and make it easier for the employers to filter and search for candidates whose qualifications match the role.
If you want to win more interviews and job offers, you need to have a keyword-optimized cover letter. There are two ways to find the right keywords:
1. Leverage The 20 Best Account Manager Keywords
The first is to leverage our list of the best keywords and skills for an Account Manager cover letter.
These keywords were selected from an analysis of real Account Manager job descriptions sourced from actual job boards. Here they are:
- Communication
- Relationships
- Development
- Partnerships
- Account Management
- Organization
2. Use ResyMatch.io To Find The Best Keywords That Are Specific To Your Cover Letter And Target Role
The second method is the one I recommend because it's personalized to your specific cover letter and target job.
Here's how it works:
- Open a copy of your updated Account Manager cover letter
- Open a copy of your target Account Manager job description
- In the widget below, paste the job description and hit scan!
ResyMatch is going to scan the target job description and show you the exact keywords and skills that are relevant for the role and that you should weave into your cover letter.
If you're ready to check it out, grab your target job description and run your first scan here:
To start, paste your target job description (or multiple job descriptions) into the box below:
Scan to help you identify keywords and skills within your target job description.
Scanning...
If you're more of a visual learner, here's a video walking through this whole process so you can follow along:
Personalization is what makes a cover letter stand out. That starts from the very first sentence where you greet the person reading your cover letter! There are two ways to do this well:
1. Use The Hiring Manager's Name
The first, and best, is by including the hiring manager's name. Let's say that you discovered the hiring manager's name from a post on LinkedIn or via an informational interview.
This is the jackpot! All you need to do is use their name in the introduction, like this:
2. Use This Formula: To The [Department] Team at [Company]
If you don't have the hiring manager's name, no problem! You can address your cover letter to the team that you're applying to.
For example, if you're applying to for a Product Marketing Manager role at Discovery Education, you might start you cover letter like this:
This shows the reader that this letter has been written specifically for them and the content inside of it will support that.
It's much more relevant and personal than “To Whom It May Concern!”

3 Account Manager Cover Letter Examples For 2023
Now let's take a look at all of these best practices in action. Here are three cover letter examples for different situations from people with different backgrounds that are all applying for Account Manager roles:
Account Manager Cover Letter Example #1: A Traditional Background
Our first example is a cover letter written by a candidate with traditional Account Management experience. Here is what an example of their cover letter might look like:
Account Manager Cover Letter Example #2: A Non-Traditional Background
Our second cover letter example comes from a candidate looking to transition from hospitality into account management. This cover letter illustrates how they identify and speak to their transferable skills:
Account Manager Cover Letter Example #3: Making A Vertical Leap From AM to Enterprise Despite A Career Gap
Our third example highlights a candidate with Account Management experience who has a gap in employment but wants to transition into an Enterprise Account Manager role. Here is what their cover letter might look like:
At this point, you know all of the basics you'll need to write an Account Manager cover letter that wins you more interviews and offers. The only thing left is to take all of that information and apply it to a template that's going to help you get results.
We made that easy with our CoverBuild tool . It has 8 proven templates that were created with the help of recruiters and hiring managers at the world's best companies. 3 Tips For Writing A Job-Winning Account Manager Cover Letter
You're off to a strong start! But I've got a few more tips to help you take your cover letter to the next level:
1. Use ChatGPT To Write Your Cover Letter In <30 Seconds
All of these tips and best practices work, but you still have to implement them. Normally, that'd mean you sitting down and spending hours brainstorming ideas, typing, deleting, and typing again, and then feeling absolutely drained.
Now there's a way to work around all of that so you save your best energy for the writing and edits that matter most. Here's how it works:
- Head to ChatGPT (you'll need to create an account – it's free)
- Ask ChatGPT, “Please write me a cover letter for an Account Manager role. The role I'm applying for is [Job Title] role at [Company]. Here is the job description: [Paste Job Description]. And here is my resume: [Paste Resume].
- Watch ChatGPT write up a pretty darn good cover letter base!
Here's a video of me doing this with a real cover letter if you want to see the steps in action:
Note: I do not recommend or advise that you simply copy and paste the content from ChatGPT into your cover letter and submit your application. ChatGPT is great for doing 80% of the baseline work, but you still need to review, revise, and personalize the content yourself.
2. Include Measurable Metrics And Outcomes
Too many job seekers only focus on the actions that they took and not the outcomes that resulted from those actions. As a hiring manager, it's impossible to differentiate between a dozen candidates who were all “Responsible For Managing A Book Of Key Accounts.”
If you want to win, your cover letter should speak to the specific outcomes that you drove in previous roles. That could be:
- The amount of revenue you drove
- The number of clients you managed
- The retention rate of your clients
- The satisfaction rate your clients shared
These numbers will show hiring teams what you're capable of and make your value crystal clear!
3. Match Your Cover Letter And Resume Design
They're the exact same car, down to the year, make, and model. The only difference is the way the product was presented. Like I said, quality impacts perceived value.
One of the best ways to boost the quality of your cover letter is to make it look clean, professional, and have it match your resume. That's why the resume templates in our resume builder tool match the cover letter templates in our cover letter builder:
If you use both tools to create your cover letter and your resume, your entire application is going to be top notch.

How to write a Account Manager cover letter
Here’s how you can write your own eye-catching cover letter, broken down into simple steps.
Write your cover letter in the body of an email/message
When writing your Account Manager cover letter, it’s best to type the content into the body of your email (or the job site messaging system) and not to attach the cover letter as a separate document.
This ensures that your cover letter gets seen as soon as a recruiter or employer opens your message.
If you attach the cover letter as a document, you’re making the reader go through an unnecessary step of opening the document before reading it.
If it’s in the body of the message itself, it will be seen instantly, which hugely increases the chances of it being read.
Start with a friendly greeting
To build an instant connection with the recruiter reading your cover letter, start with a warm greeting.
It should be friendly but not casual – keeping it professional at all times.
- Hi, hope you’re well
- Hi [insert recruiter name]
- Hi [insert department/team name]
Avoid overly formal greetings like “Dear sir/madam ” unless applying to very traditional companies.
How to find the contact’s name?
Addressing the recruitment contact by name is an excellent way to start building a strong relationship. If it is not listed in the job advert, try these methods to find it.
- Check out the company website and look at their About page. If you see a hiring manager, HR person or internal recruiter, use their name. You could also try to figure out who would be your manager in the role and use their name.
- Head to LinkedIn , search for the company and scan through the list of employees. Most professionals are on LinkedIn these days, so this is a good bet.
Identify the role you are applying for
Once you’ve opened up the cover letter with a warm greeting to start building a relationship, it is time to identify which role you want to apply for.
Recruiters are often managing multiple vacancies, so you need to ensure you apply to the correct one.
Be very specific and use a reference number if you can find one.
- I am interested in applying for the position of Account Manager with your company.
- I would like to apply for the role of Sales assistant (Ref: 406f57393)
- I would like to express my interest in the customer service vacancy within your retail department
- I saw your advert for a junior project manager on Reed and would like to apply for the role.

Highlight your suitability
The main purpose of your cover letter is to excite recruiters and make them eager to open your CV. And you achieve this by quickly demonstrating your suitability to the job you are applying for.
Take a look at the job adverts you are applying for, and make note of the most important skills being asked for.
Then, when you write your cover letter, make your suitability the focal point.
Explain how you meet the candidate requirements fully, and why you are so well suited to carry out the job.
This will give recruiters all the encouragement they need to open your CV and consider your application.
Keep it short and sharp
It is best to keep your cover letter brief if you want to ensure you hold the attention of busy recruiters and hiring managers. A lengthy cover letter will probably not get read in full, so keep yours to around 3-6 sentences and save the real detail for your CV.
Remember the purpose of your cover letter is to quickly get recruiters to notice you and encourage them to open your CV, so it only needs to include the highlights of your experience.
Sign off professionally
To round of your CV, you should sign off with a professional signature.
This will give your cover letter a slick appearance and also give the recruiter all of the necessary contact information they need to get in touch with you.
The information to add should include:
- A friendly sign off – e.g. “Kindest regards”
- Your full name
- Phone number (one you can answer quickly)
- Email address
- Profession title
- Professional social network – e.g. LinkedIn
Here is an example signature;
Warm regards,
Jill North IT Project Manager 078837437373 [email protected] LinkedIn
Quick tip: To save yourself from having to write your signature every time you send a job application, you can save it within your email drafts, or on a separate documents that you could copy in.
What to include in your Account Manager cover letter
So, what type of information should you write about in your Account Manager cover letter?
The specifics will obviously depend on your profession and the jobs you are applying to, but these are the key areas you should be covering.
- Your industry experience – Tell recruiters the types of companies you have been working for and the roles you have held in the past.
- Your qualifications – Highlight your most important relevant qualifications to show employers you are qualified to do the roles you are applying for.
- The impact you have made – Demonstrate the positive impact you have made for employers in previous jobs. Have you saved money? Improved processes? Made customers happy?
- Your reasons for moving – Employers will want to know why you are leaving your current/previous role, so provide them with a brief explanation here.
- Your availability – When will you be able to start a new job ? Check your current contract to find out your notice period if you are in a position already.
