Acquire Combat Plants and Use Them Simultaneously Hogwarts Legacy
Home » Hogwarts Legacy » Acquire Combat Plants and Use Them Simultaneously Hogwarts Legacy
Combat plants are a special type of plant in Hogwarts Legacy that you can use in the middle of combat. They are: Mandrake, Chinese Chomping Cabbages, and Venomous Tentacula. As part of Professor Garlick’s Assignment 2, you are going to need to acquire all three combat plants and use them simultaneously in Hogwarts Legacy . The reward for doing this is the Flipendo spell, so this is definitely something that’s worth doing. Here’s how and where to get all three of these combat plants.
How to Acquire 3 Combat Plants and Use Them Simultaneously in Hogwarts Legacy
To begin with, you first need to get all of these plants – Mandrake , Venomous Tentacula , and Chinese Chomping Cabbages . You can acquire all three of these by heading to the Dogweed and Deathcap shop , which is in Hogsmeade. Once you are in the shopping menu, you will see all three of these combat plants under Combat Tools to the bottom. There are two ways to complete this task. The first method is to buy the seeds of all three plants and to then grow them by yourselves. And the other option is to simply get all of them fully grown and ready to use from the shop. Note that, if you go for the second option, you are going to need 1400 Galleons to purchase all three. That is – 500 for Mandrake , 300 for Chinese Chomping Cabbage , and 600 for the Venomous Tentacula .
Once you have all three of these combat plants in your possession, you can now use them. Note that, unlike Professor Garlick’s Assignment 1 , you don’t actually need to use them in combat. No, all it takes is to go into your inventory and then use each of these in quick succession. Once the third combat plant has been used, you will get a notification that you have completed this objective. All that’s left now to complete this quest is to grow and harvest some Fluxweed . Go back to Professor Garlick and you will be rewarded with unlocking the Flipendo spell .

I followed your suggestion about non-combat in my room of requirement. It didn’t work. I feel the requirement may have been upgraded. Just want you to know.

Hogwarts Legacy: How to Use Combat Plants Simultaneously
Professor Garlick’s second assignment requires her Herbology students to obtain all three combat plants and use them all at once. We’ll go over how to use combat plants simultaneously in Hogwarts Legacy in this guide .
How to Use Combat Plants Simultaneously in Hogwarts Legacy
All three combat plants are used in Professor Garlick’s assignment. T he Chinese Chomping Cabbage, the Mandrake, and the Venomous Tentacula can all be purchased and grown. Professor Garlick doesn’t provide you with the plants you’ll need for the assignment, so you’ll have to obtain them yourself.
How to Get Combat Plants in Hogwarts Legacy
To get your hands on a few combat plants and complete Professor Garlick’s assignment, just head over to the Greenhouse where the Herbology classroom is located. Directly across from the classroom, there is a second room that houses combat plants.
Following Herbology class, Leander Prewitt will escort you to this area to harvest a Chinese Chomping Cabbage, and you can collect Venomous Tentacula in this location as well. You’ll need to purchase either a mature Mandrake or seeds from Dogweed & Deathcap in Hogsmeade to obtain the third combat plant. There’s a cap on how many of each item can be purchased from the shop, so seeds will prove a more fruitful purchase in the long run.
Seeds can be planted and grown in the Room of Requirement once you have access to it. While Mandrake can be grown using the small potting tables initially provided in the room, you will need to buy Spellcrafts for medium and large potting tables to grow Chinese Chomping Cabbages and Venomous Tentacula, respectively.
Once planted, the seeds will mature in a matter of minutes and continue to bear goods indefinitely, providing you with each combat plant you’ll need to complete Professor Garlick’s assignment and earn achievements .
How to Use Combat Plants Simultaneously
To equip combat plants and use them in duels, you will need to hold a button, either LB (Xbox), L1 (PlayStation), or Tab (PC). While holding the button, you will have access to your plants and potions .
Simply select the plant you want to equip from the menu, and deploy it using LB, L1, or Tab. This process will need to be done three times to use all three combat plants simultaneously and complete Professor Garlick’s assignment. The plants have fairly long lifespans when used, so you shouldn’t have a problem using each plant before another dies, but the process can always be repeated in or out of battle.
That’s it for how to use combat plants simultaneously in Hogwarts Legacy . For more information on quests , flying mounts , and in-game features , check out the rest of our Hogwarts Legacy guides .
Hogwarts Legacy – Professor Garlick’s Assignments
Assignment 1
You’ll receive the first assignment for Professor Garlick from an owl post after learning the Confingo spell during the main story. She will task you with obtaining a Venomous Tenatcula and using it. She will also ask you to get a Mandrake and use it on multiple enemies at the same time. Both of these items can be purchased from Dogweed and Deathcap in the north part of Hogsmeade. The Venomous Tenatcula costs 600 gold and the Mandrake costs 500. After collecting the items, head out to the world map and use the items to satisfy the task condition. You’ll then need to attend Herbology Class in the Library Annex during the day. After the class, speak with Professor Garlick to learn Wingardium Leviosa.
Assignment 2
The second assignment will unlock shortly after completing the first one as time passes. Professor Garlick will give you the task of growing and harvesting Fluxweed. You’ll also need to acquire a Mandrake, Chinese Chomping Cabbage and Venomous Tentacula then use them all three simultaneously. You can buy the seeds for the Fluxweed from The Magic Neep. You’ll also need to buy a Table with a Large Pot from Tomes and Scrolls. Both shops can be found in Hogsmeade. Next head to the Room of Requirement and conjure the table then interact with it and plant the Fluxweed seeds. It will take 15 minutes for the seeds to grow. Then you can harvest the plant to satisfy the first task. For the second buy all three items from Dogweed and Deathcap. You can then use all three items simultaneously (without any enemies) to satisfy the second task. With both tasks complete, return to the professor and speak with her in one of the greenhouses to learn Flipendo.

Assignments
As mentioned, there are 12 assignments , and each chapter of the game unlocks assignments based on the chapter’s story direction and skill level. Some assignments even require players to reach a particular level . Moreover, five assignments are required to advance in the story, while seven others are similar to side quests. The below list sorts all assignments in chronological order:
Table of Contents
Part Of The Main Story
Professor ronen’s assignment, basic requirements.
- Quest Location: Transfiguration Courtyard in The Astronomy Wing.
- Required Level: Level 3
- Pre-requisites: Complete the Quest “Defence Against Charms Class”
- Report to Professor Ronen
- Collect the Flying Page near the broken statue.
- Collect the Flying Page in the Defense Against the Dark Art Tower.

- Reparo Spell
This spell will help you rebuild specific wrecked objects like carts, statues, and building structures. Hence, it is used from time to time in many missions where some broken objects’ information or use is required, or some path is blocked and needs to be rebuilt.
Walkthrough
Firstly, go to the Transfiguration Courtyard in the Astronomy Wing . Find Professor Ronen there and talk to him. Afterward, he will give you the task of capturing the Flying Pages in two locations. The first location is near the starting place, while the second is in the Defence Against the Dark Art Tower .
You will find the first page behind Professor Ronen. It will be following an abrupt path. You will use Accio Spell to capture the page. Aim towards the flying page and activate the spell. The page will contain some guide information, which is not much helpful.
Second Page
To start the quest path guide on the second page, press V. It leads to the Defence Against the Dark Art Tower, near the previous location. The page will be near the stairway; use the same spell to retrieve it.
Then, return to Professor Ronen. He will teach you the “Reparo Spell” for upcoming missions, marking the end of the first assignment.
Professor Hecat’s Assignment-I
- Quest Location: Defense Against The Dark Arts Classroom in the Astronomy Wing
- Required Level: Level 4
- Pre-requisites: Complete the Quest “The Locket’s Secret”
- Go to Professor Hecat in the Defense Against The Dark Arts Classroom.
- Complete the two rounds of the Side Quest “Crossed Wands.”
- Complete the Side Quest “Spell Combination Practice 1” with Lucan Brattleby.
- Report back to Professor Hecat.
- Incendio Spell
Incendio is a damage-type spell that will be primarily used in combats . This spell damages enemies using fire, which is significantly effective against some enemies.
Go to the Defence Against The Dark Arts Classroom in the Astronomy Wing, where you will find Professor Hecat. You may need to wait for the day for the class to start. Therefore, you can fast forward the time by going to the map and using the “skip” option. Once the class is over, talk to Professor Hecat.
Side Quest: Crossed Wands Round 1
Talk to Lucan Brattleby in the South Wing of Clock Tower Courtyard for the next task. You will have to fight your classmates by teaming up with Lucan. Your enemies will use a yellow shield spell which can be easily broken by using Levioso as a counter. Then you can attack them with your basic spells. This quest will earn you 180XP.
Side Quest: Crossed Wands Round 2
Similar to Round 1, visit Lucan Brattleby in the South Wing of the Clock Tower Courtyard. Select a teammate and challenge fellow students to a duel, using the spells you’ve learned in previous missions.
Opponents will use shields: Levioso for yellow and Acio for purple. This breaks their shields, allowing basic attacks for 180 XP.
Spell Combination Practice
Lucan Brattleby gives this side quest. You can meet him at the same spot in the South Wing of the Clock Tower Courtyard. Your task will be to battle a dummy by using various spell combinations.
- The first combination uses the spell Acio to attract the dummy towards you in the air and then hits it four times with the basic attacks spell .
- For the second combination , use Levioso to levitate the dummy and then hit it four times using the basic attack spell .
- The final one is a little challenging because you need to repeat the same spells in one go while keeping the dummy airborne . So, your spell combination should be Levioso, four attack spells, Acio, and then again, four attack spells.
You will get 180 XP by completing this side quest.
After completing these side missions, head back to Professor Hecat, who will teach you the spell “Incendio.”
Professor Hecat’s Assignment-II
- Required Level: Level 7
- Pre-requisites: Complete the Quest “Tomes and Tribulations”
- Dodge the enemy’s attacks by rolling ten times .
- Damage enemies by using “Incendio” five times .
- Expelliarmus Spell
It is a damage-type spell that will disarm all weak enemies and deal a little damage to them too.
This quest is straightforward because there is no specific place to do its tasks. These tasks can be done during any combat with enemies. Moreover, the objectives do not specify it to be done in a single fight, so you can carry on your main quests, and you will eventually complete them if you find some enemies.
The first objective requires you to dodge the enemy’s attack ten times, which only works if the enemies attack you. You can dodge-roll by pressing “C.” Occasionally, the game tells you to evade the incoming attack as well.
Use Incendio
For the second part , you must cast Incendio on one or more enemies in combat. Like the previous task, you cannot complete it in one combat.
Afterward, head back to Professor Hecat and report your success. You will learn the spell “Expelliarmus” after a short conversation ends.
Professor Garlick’s Assignment-I
- Quest Locations: Greenhouses in the Library Annex, Dogweed and Deathcap
- Required Level: Level 16
- Pre-requisites: Complete the Quest “In the Shadows of the Estate”
- Purchase or craft a Venomous Tenatacula and use it.
- Purchase or craft a Mandrake and use it on multiple enemies simultaneously.
- Go to the Herbology Class.
- Report back to Professor Garlick.
- Wingardium Leviosa Spell
Wingardium Leviosa is one of the most useful spells you can learn while doing assignments in Hogwarts Legacy. This spell allows you to levitate any object and enemies and manipulate their motion in the air. It is a requirement for some upcoming missions as well.
To find the required tools/items, you need to go to Dogweed and Deathcap in North Hogsmeade . Dogweed and Deathcap is a store a little far from the village of Hogsmeade . Go inside and talk to the owner of the store, Beatrice Green.
You can buy Venomous Tentacula for 600 Galleons in the given list of items and Mandrake for 500 Galleons . Both are required to complete this assignment. In case you are out of money, you can sell some excessive items or gear in the “Sell” section of the shop. This will earn you a handsome amount for the objective.
Afterward, head to any location having a few enemies. They can be either wild beasts , thieves, or other kinds of hostile entities . Use Venomous Tenatacula first, and then throw a Mandrake when you see two or more of them close to each other.
Professor Weasley’s Assignment
- Quest Locations: Transfiguration Classroom in the Astronomy Wing, Underground Harbor near Boathouse, Library
- Required Level: Level 20
- Pre-requisites: Complete the Quest “Fire and Vice”
- Get the Field Guide Page in the Underground Harbor
- Get the Field Guide Page from the Book on Intermediate Transfiguration in the Library
- Go to the Transfiguration Class.
- Report back to Professor Weasely
- Transformation Spell
The Transformation Spell allows you to transform any object or enemy into random objects. It is quite useful in combat because enemies turned into objects are vulnerable , and they are unable to attack, giving you some extra time to handle other ones.
This assignment requires us to find Field Guide Pages at specific locations. These pages are sometimes flying or hidden in plain sight. For the flying pages, use Acio, while for the hidden pages, use Revelio to reveal and then collect them.
First Page – Underground Harbor
To get to the Underground Harbor, fast travel to the Boathouse Foo Flame . If you have not unlocked it yet, you may need to go there by flying or on foot. Once you reach there, follow the marker using the quest path guide option. You will see a cave leading into the Underground Harbor; go inside. The Field Guide Page will be present on the docks. Collect it and move to the next location.
Second Page – Library
For the next page:
Go to the Library (fast travel to the Library Annex or other means).
Find student Sophronia Franklin.
Participate in a Harry Potter story quiz:
- 1st Answer: The Golden Snidget
- 2nd Answer: Felix Felicis
- 3rd Answer: The Deathly Hallows
- 4th Answer: The Quaffle
- 5th Answer: False
Use Revelio to reveal and collect the Field Guide Page. Incorrect quiz answers won’t prevent you from getting the page.
Later, attend the Transfiguration Classroom during the day.
After class, speak with Professor Weasley, who will teach you the Transformation Spell.
This concludes all assignments related to the main story in Hogwarts Legacy.
Other Assignments
The following assignments are not a part of Hogwarts Legacy lore, but for the sake of 100% game completion, you need to do these as well. Similar to the previous assignments, these ones also focus on tasks like using items and combat techniques. Accomplishing these will unlock several spells and give XP advance to the next levels.
Madam Kogawa’s Assignment-I
- Quest Locations: Flying Class Lawn in the Belltower Wing, Hogsmeade Station, Quidditch Pitch
- Required Level: Level 5
- Pre-requisites: Complete the Quest “The Map Chamber”
- Go to Hogsmeade Station and pop five balloons.
- Go to the Quidditch Pitch and Pop five balloons.
- Report back to Madam Kogawa.
- Glacious Spell
This spell momentarily freezes enemies or objects. When used on enemies, it will nullify their shields and makes them vulnerable to attacks.
This assignment is about popping balloons over Hogsmeade and Quidditch Pitch. To pop the balloons, you need to fly through them. At the beginning of the game, you would have only access to the brooms for flying.
Nevertheless, if you don’t have unlocked brooms yet, go to the “Spintwitches Sporting Needs” shop in Hogsmeade. This will be only available if you have done the quest “Flying Class.” You can buy yourself a broom for 600 Galleons from the shop.
Hogsmeade Station
Fast travel to any point in Hogsmeade. Ride your broom and follow the marker for the Hogsmeade Station . You will notice five balloons levitating there above the Hogsmeade Station. Fly through each of the balloons to pop it.
Quidditch Pitch
Fast Travel to Hogwarts and fly to the Quidditch Pitch on your broom. Pop all the balloons flying over the location to complete the objective.
Next, go and talk to Madam Kogawa in the Flying Class Lawn, where she will teach you the Glacious spell .
Madam Kogawa’s Assignment-II
- Quest Locations: Flying Class Lawn in the Belltower Wing, Spires, Keenbridge Tower
- Pre-requisites: Complete the Quest “Madam Kogawa’s Assignment-I”
- Fly around the Spires and pop five balloons.
- Fly around the Keenbridge Tower and pop five balloons.
- Arresto Momentum Spell
It is a control-type spell that slows down enemies and objects.
Like Madam Kogawa’s assignment-I, you need to pop balloons in the specified area to complete the tasks.
Go to the South of Hogwarts to find the Spires. Find the balloons in the sky and pop them by flying through them. All five balloons will be in a row.
Keenbridge Tower
Keenbridge Tower is located in the middle of Hogwarts Valley . You can find five balloons there. Pop them using the same method.
Once you are done popping all balloons, report back to Madam Kogawa in the Flying Class Lawn to learn Arresto Momentum .
Professor Garlick’s Assignment-II
- Quest Locations: Greenhouses in the Library Annex, Tomes and Scrolls, Magic Neep, Dogsweed and Deathcap, Room of Requirement
- Pre-requisites: Complete the Quest “Professor Garlick’s Assignment-I”
- Grow and Harvest Fluxweed.
- Obtain and use all three combat-related items/plants simultaneously.
- Flipendo Spell
The Flipendo spell is a force-type spell that causes airborne or levitating objects to flip in the air. Any spell can levitate these objects with similar effects like Acio, Levioso, or Wingardium Leviosa.
To grow and harvest Fluxweed, you need its seeds. For this, go to the South side of Hogsmeade, where you will find the Tomes and Scrolls shop. Enter the shop and buy a Potting Table with a Large Pot. It will cost 1000 Galleons.
Next, go to the West side of Hogsmeade and search for the Magic Neep. Enter the shop and buy Fluxweed Seeds for 350 Galleons . Go to the Room of Requirement and place the potting table at a suitable location.
Open/Use the potting table to grow the Fluxweed using its seeds. It will take about 15 minutes for the plant to grow. After the time ends, use the table again to harvest the Fluxweed.
Combat Plants
Professor Garlick’s assignments in Hogwarts Legacy are usually related to combating. Similarly, his second assignment focuses on all combat-related plants: the Venomous Tentacula, Mandrake, and the Chinese Chomping Cabbage.
You can buy all three plants from Dogsweed and Deathcap on the North side of Hogsmeade. But the shop sells only a limited number, so you may have to buy the seeds. The pricing of plants and their seeds are elaborated on in the following table.
Hence, the total of all plants is 1400 Galleons, but if you don’t get the plants, you need to go with the seeds, which cost 2450 Galleons. You can grow plants using the seeds in the Room of Requirement on the potting tables. We suggest you buy the seeds while doing assignments because these items are useful in the later missions of Hogwarts Legacy.
The next step after getting these plants will be to use them. You are not restricted to using these plants in combat, therefore, go to any open place and throw each plant one by one.
Head back to Professor Garlick in the Greenhouse near the Library Annex . Thereafter, he will teach you Flipendo Spell .
Professor Howin’s Assignment
- Quest Locations: Giant Purple Toad Nest, Hogwarts Valley, Beasts Classroom in Bell Tower Wing.
- Required Level: Level 18
- Pre-requisites: Complete the Quest “Charles Rookwood’s Trials”
- Capture a Giant Purple Toad with the Nab-Sack
- Capture a Diricawl with the Nab-Sack
- Go to the Beasts Classroom.
- Report back to Professor Howin.
- Bombarda Spell
Bombarda Spell is undoubtedly one of the most powerful spells in the game. It is a damage-type spell that deals damage in a large area.
Giant Purple Toad
To find a Giant Purple Toad , go to the North Ford Bog region of the world map. There will be a location name Giant Purple Toad Nest . Go there, and you will eventually find the beast you are looking for.
Equip the Nab-Sack and press the corresponding button to capture the beast in the nab-sack. But, remain conscious because the location is filled with many hostile entities, including the Infarius and wild beasts. Do not engage in combat unless forced to.
To capture the Diricawl, head to Hogwarts Valley and go to the location which shows a beast icon on the map, with a keyword mentioning Diricawls . On reaching there, equip the nab-sack and start looking for the beast. You will find one soon enough without getting into any battle.
Once you have captured all required beasts, head back to the Beasts Classroom in the Bell Tower Wing of Hogwarts Castle and attend the class . When the class ends, go to Professor Howin and learn the Bombarda Spell .
Professor Onai’s Assignment
- Quest Locations: Divination Classroom in the Library Annex.
- Required Level: Level 15
- Pre-requisites: Complete the Quest “Percival Rackaham’s Trial”
- Gather a Troll Bogey.
- Use Depulso Spell on a levitated enemy.
- Go to the Divination Classroom
- Report back to Professor Onai.
- Descendo Spell
This spell is mostly used as a combo with other levitation spells. It smashes down any levitating object or enemy on the ground, dealing significant damage.
Defeat A Troll
For the first objective, locate a troll and defeat him in battle. The dead body of the troll leaves a troll bogey. To find a troll, head to the South side of the world map. Moreover, you can also buy Troll Bogeys from J. Pippins Potion Store for 100 Galleons.
Additionally, this objective can be completed while doing the quest “ The Helm of Urtkot ,” where the final boss is a troll. This fight happens in the hiding location of the thieves (Bandit Camp) who stole the Helm of Urtkot.
Cast Depulso
This objective can be easily completed by using Depulso on a levitated enemy . To levitate an enemy, you can use Levioso, Wingardium Leviosa, or Acio. Casting Depulso on the enemy will smash him to the ground dealing significant damage. Similar combinations are used a lot in combat or in a few other assignments in Hogwarts Legacy.
After doing the tasks, attend the class in Divination Classroom. Professor Onai will teach you the Descendo Spell after the class ends.
Professor Sharp’s Assignment-I

- Edurus Potion – 300 Galleons
You can sell any extra gear in the sell item portion of the shop if you are short of money . After acquiring all potions, go to any location and use them simultaneously to complete the objective.
Afterward, head to the Potions Classroom and attend the class. Later, talk to Professor Sharp and learn the new spell Depulso .
Professor Sharp’s Assignment-II
- Pre-requisites: Complete the Quest “Professor Sharp’s Assignment-I”
- Obtain and use an Invisibility Potion.
- Obtain and use a Thunderbrew Potion against enemies.
- Report back to Professor Sharp
- Diffindo Spell
The Diffindo Spell is a damage-type spell that throws sharp blades at enemies dealing heavy damage.
Like all potion-related assignments in Hogwarts Legacy, this one also requires you to go to J. Pippins Potion shop and buy the needed potions. The potions used in this assignment are priced at:
- Invisibility Potion – 500 Galleons
- Thunderbrew Potion – 1000 Galleons
The other way includes buying the potion’s recipes and then brewing the potions in the Room of Requirements. But this process takes a lot of time and money as well. The prices of recipes are:
- Invisibility Potion Recipe – 800 Galleons
- Thunderbrew Potion Recipe – 1200 Galleons
You can use the invisibility potion at any location, but for the Thunderbew potion, head to someplace with hostile activity. You can use your Thunderbew potion on enemies or while fighting to complete the objective.
Once all objectives are done, head back to Professor Sharp, who will teach you Diffindo Spell after a small conversation.
In this guide, we have comprehensively explained all the assignments in Hogwarts Legacy. Some of these assignments are a part of Hogwarts Legacy lore, while others are just playable as side quests. However, the significance of these assignments stays high because they unlock new unique spells that are pretty useful in the game.

Acquire and Use a Mandrake on Multiple Enemies Simultaneously
The hardest part of this quest is finding where you can buy the supplies. If you haven’t explored Hogsmeade thoroughly, then you might not know where Dogweed and Deathcap is located . It’s the building the farthest north on the Hogsmeade map. Thankfully, you’ll only have to make two purchases here for both of the assignments, but they are fairly expensive.
Here’s what you’ll be needing to buy for the quest:
- Mandrake (1)-500 galleons
- Venomous Tentacula (1)-600 galleons
If you’re like me, and you showed up without much gold, there is a disillusionment chest in the shop that will give you 500 galleons. You might also evaluate if you want to buy the seeds instead. If you’re going for a build that focuses on herbology, then you’ll want to keep your items stocked. Planting your own seeds and harvesting them instead of buying items will be more economical in the long term. Keep in mind though that you will still need to purchase a large potting table spellcraft at Tomes and Scrolls in order to plant Venomous Tentacula Seeds.
Here’s the price of those seeds:
- Mandrake Seeds-800 galleons
- Venomous Tentacula Seeds-1050 galleons
Acquire and Use Venomous Tentacula (and Mandrake)
You remembered to buy Venomous Tentacula at the store, right? Good. Now it’s as simple as finding a couple of enemies and unleashing your lethal plants on them. You can go anywhere for this; we went to San Bakar’s Tower and found a trio of goblins to dispatch.
