30 PPT Bomb Games for ESL Class
PowerPoint (PPT) games are on of the most important teaching aids for any English teacher with a computer and screen in the class. What makes PPT games even more useful is that teachers can easily change the contents to suit their lesson plans .
With PPT Bomb games you can review vocabulary, learn grammar or practice English phrases. The ideas are endless! There are many educational PPT games out there, and students love them, but it can be easy to use them in the wrong way.
Teachers should pick the right PPT Game Template , edit the content and play the game correctly in class. In this article we will share ESL Powerpoint Bomb game templates, give suggestions to pick the right ones, show how to easily edit them and explain how to play Powerpoint Bomb games in ESL class.

How to play an ESL Bomb Game
When to use a Powerpoint game in ESL Class?
PPT Bomb games are a lifesaver in any ESL class. Teachers can use it as a warmup to energize the class, a practice activity during the learning phase or at the end of class as a review.
Most of these games are based on movies or TV shows that kids enjoy, so they will have fun with the characters and elements from each story. That way you can focus on student engagement. Place students in groups so that they can play the game with other classmates. It’s more fun if there is a competitive element too.
The amount of students that you should add per group depends on the class size. The maximum amount of groups that you should have is 4. More than that and it gets difficult to keep control of the class and too much time in between each group’s turn so the students will get bored. 3 groups is the ideal amount.
Make sure that each student gets a turn in their groups, otherwise louder students will answer everything. If a shy student is stuck however, encourage them to ask their friends. The aim on ESL Bomb games is for students to learn, have fun and feel included.
30 ESL Powerpoint Games
Some of the best games on the site, all with fantastic animations, include Pokémon, Frozen, Avengers, Super Mario, Naruto and Harry Potter . On opening the Pokémon game one can see that it’s got some instructions for teachers on how to use it. Note that Pokémon characters have different names in various languages, for example, in Korean Snorlax translates to something like Sleepy Giant.
Students can play individually or in teams and must select and answer questions to gain points. They can win bonus points, but are always at the risk of picking a bomb or losing their points when they have to swap points with another team. Mystery balls and different actions by these famous animation characters keep students on the edge of their seats, making this game highly exciting and effective.

How to edit PPT games for class
These PPT games can be easily edited using the Bomb Game Generator . Step one is to open the PPT game, click and change the title, change the questions and answers to review a lot of the vocabulary and grammar that was done in class. Photos, images, sound bites and music can be added.
PowerPoint provides detailed step-by-step instructions and its VBA program will automatically adjust all images, sounds, and font settings. Drag-and-drop or copy and paste text or pictures onto the edit slides, which will automatically resize to fit. The font settings can be made bigger or changed per single slide. One can even add sound bites and music files. It won’t be necessary to fiddle with the slides, animations, or to make links. The game is automatically saved as a PPT template file, along with thumbnail images.
Powerpoint Games Template for Kids
When picking a template for a PPT Game to play with kids, make sure that it is:
- A suitable level for the students
- An interesting theme or topic
- Covers actual work from class
- No bugs or too big when loading

Powerpoint Games for Zoom
It is possible to play Powerpoint Games on Zoom with your students. Place students in groups and give each member a specific turn. If they are 3 in a group , tell each person what number they will be: First, second or third.
Take out a piece of paper to write down the scores. That will make it easier to keep score as you will be sharing the Powerpoint game.
Next, use the Sharescreen function to show the Powerpoint game to your students. To make it even more fun try doing it in ‘advanced PPT sharing’ on Zoom. That way it will show you on the PPT – Almost like a game show host!
Play the game normally. Here’s a pro tip: If a student struggles you can send them a hint through chat. That way they don’t feel embarrassed if they don’t know the answer.
Pokemon PPT Game
Here is a fun Pokemon PPT Game that you can use with your students in class. You can add questions, answers and each option has a different prize which makes learners enjoy the process.
You can download the Pokemon PPT Bomb Game here:
https://www.teamteacherchina.com/esl-ppt-bomb-games-collection
You can add 26 different questions for each letter of the alphabet. 26 is a good number because it doesn’t overwhelm students with too many options. Giving students a choice of what letter to pick makes them more invested because it give them a say on their destiny. What fun is a game if you don’t take part. This investment is a good lesson for playing other learning games with students too.
Students pick from one of the 26 letters of the alphabet to play this ESL Bomb Game. Place the students into teams and within the teams each member gets a turn to pick a letter and answer the question. It keeps them engaged and makes learning a social experience in stead of isolating the students as individual learners.
You can make a question and answer for each of the letters. Students are expected to answer the question. If they get it right, they earn a prize but if they get it wrong, they get nothing. The whole idea behind using an esl bomb game is for students to learn while having fun. So don’t move on immediately if they get something wrong. Guide them to the answer, that way you increase their confidence and helps them enjoy the class, which means that they are more likely to return.
Make some of the questions more challenging and if a student has trouble answering, ask their partners if they can help them out. Teamwork makes these PPT bomb games more enjoyable.
When the student gives and answer, you can click on the pokeball if it is correct, or the “X” if it is incorrect. When you click on the pokeball, it will bring up a pokemon and an amount of points. Write the points for each team on the board and calculate a winner at the end. You don’t need to give a prize for the winning team , winning should be prize enough but sometimes it is fun to add some stakes to the game. For example, winners can leave a minute early. It could be fun to add a punishment like losers have to do one extra question for homework, but the main idea is to keep the game fun and positive.
Students love the reveal of the pokemon because they start talking about what they know or like about the particular pokemon. That excitement and discussion generated makes bomb games centered around popular games so useful for esl class.
You can also make it a bomb, which means that the team will lose points. This is a funny surprise because students love the emotional rollercoaster ride. Try not to add too many bombs though so that students can accumulate more points.
Pokemon PPT Bomb game is an easy to edit, fun game to use in ESL class with younger learners.
A large number of games that were made using the PowerPoint bomb game generator can easily be adapted to be used in the classroom. PPT bomb games provides teachers with a great variety of fun ways to review lesson content in a format that students love. These games can all be edited changed to contain the targeted vocabulary and grammar, but are often hard to find, which is why they are listed in this article. The best of these websites are monuments of huge selfless dedication by educators with a passion to the profession who makes it available to other teachers too. Neil, the creator of the website discussed, deserves to be applauded for his blog, these games are fantastic for teaching English or perhaps any other subjects as well.

About tay's teaching toolkit
Who are you? Hi! My name is Tayler, I’m a graphic designer-turned ESL/EFL teacher, and I’m the designer of all the games featured on this website. I utilize my expertise in both design and teaching to bring you high-quality, effective PowerPoint and Google Slides games to use in your own classroom.
Why this website? Sharing my games started as a way to give back to the EFL teaching community in South Korea that helped me so much during my start as an EFL teacher there. Then, as I saw the response to the materials I provided, I saw an opportunity to reach an even bigger community of foreign language educators.
What is it? This website is meant to be a resource for teachers to download free , easily-editable, high-quality games for their lessons. These games also require little prep work . For most of my games, all you have to do is edit them with the vocabulary or target language from your own classes and the games are ready to play!
For free?! You might ask, why am I offering these games for free? Mainly because while the designs of the games I take full credit for, I do not own the rights to most of the game images, sound effects, and fonts I use. These templates and games are unofficial and designed for personal use only . However, if you enjoy my games, find them helpful for your classes, and would like to show your appreciation, feel free to visit the Say Thanks 💛 page on my website. Thank you for visiting as well as your continued support, enjoy!

ESL Warm Up Activities and Games
Boggle vocabulary game.
This game is based off of the game BOGGLE in which players attempt to find words in sequences of adjacent letters.
The purpose of the game is to discover as many words as possible within a jumbled square of twenty five randomly selected letters. A valid word can only be formed if each letter is contiguous (i.e. side-by-side, above or below, or on the diagonal) with the next, and no letter position can be used more than once in any given word.
Game Type: Individual, Pair, Group
Vocabulary BINGO
This is a quick, no-prep vocabulary review game . Use the PowerPoint to show the winning pattern for the round. Students can make the grid and write the vocabulary words on their notebook or you may use the BINGO card template.
Disappearing Words
In this simple ESL activity , students are shown a word, phrase or sentence that disappears in 2 seconds! They need to remember what they saw and write them down on a mini-whiteboard or paper. The fastest team to show the correct answer wins the round.
Game Type: Individual, Team
The teacher calls out a student to give 5 things on a given category in 30 seconds! This is a good activity for reviewing vocabulary.
Game Type: Individual
Each team makes a line near the board, then one student per team comes up to the white board and writes a word. The next student has to use the last letter of the word on the board to make another word. At the end of the game, the team with the longest word snake with all the words joined up wins the game.
Game Type: Team

Hidden Pictures
The teacher slowly removes the squares while students take turn guessing what is the picture hidden behind it . The student who guesses the right word wins the game.
One student will help the person in the “ hot seat ” to guess the secret image behind him/her before the time runs out! This is a classic way to develop word association and description.
Game Type: Pair, Team
Categories Guessing Game
This is like a Hot Seat 2.0 game where the person in the hot seat has to guess what’s behind him. This time however, they need to guess as many words as they can from a chosen category within a limited period of time! Fun right?!
Game Type: Pair, Group
I.N.I.T.I.A.L.S.
Students are shown different pictures and they need to take the first letter from each picture to form the mystery word. This is a fun ESL activity that tests students vocabulary!
This is a matching type activity where each team is given a set of cards. Students spread out the cards on the table face down and take turns picking up a card and finding its pair.
Sleeping Pandas
Students form a group of four and number themselves from 1-4. Students will all “sleep” by putting their heads down. When they hear the teacher calls their own number, they will “wake up” and have to remember what they see. After 4 rounds, everyone “wakes up” and puts the word or sentence together .
Visual Puzzles
In this simple language game , students will guess the mystery word based on two or three pictures. The pictures are the clue to the puzzle so the students must be able to identify them first, then combine the words to get the answer. For example, the pictures of an “ice” and a letter “T” will create the word “iced tea” if combined.
Running Dictation
This is a classic pair work where one student is the runner and the other is the writer. The runner reads the sentence posted in the classroom walls and runs back to the writer and dictate the message. This is a really fun and loud activity that students will enjoy!
Game Type: Pair
Brain Teasers
Break the ice with these funny brain teasers for kids and all ages! You can also use this as a warm up for a full lesson or maybe to fill in the remaining time at the end of class. Brain teasers are good to stimulate students to think quick and critically!
Tongue Twisters
A tongue twister is a series of words or sounds that are usually repetitive and are difficult to pronounce quickly and correctly. Most English language teachers use tongue twisters to develop the students pronunciation and accent. Sometimes, we use tongue twisters just for the sheer fun of doing it. I often get my students to memorize this and ask them to say it out loud in class as a group and in pairs.
Secret Zombie Game
Students will go around the classroom asking and answering questions. After they have asked and answered, they will shake hands. The zombie will infect the other student by secretly scratching the inside part of the other student’s hands.
Can students find the safe zone before it’s too late? Or will zombies take over the world? Download this super engaging and fun conversation game now!
ESL PROJECT: SELF-PORTRAIT ADJECTIVES ACTIVITY
Anagram is a word, phrase, or name formed by rearranging the letters of another word. In this game, students work in teams to identify the original words of the 1. anagrams and 2. jumbled words. The category is Food.
In this game, teacher gives a certain category and teams come up with unique answers. Only matchless answers will be given points.
Teacher reveals up to 5 clues and teams race to give the correct answer! More points is given if teams guess the answer using fewer clues.
Speed Answer
Teacher gives a category and teams race to give a correct answer. The fastest team wins each round!
This is a Family Feud-style game where teams need to come up with top 5 popular answers for each question-survey. Each question is student-friendly and appropriate for any level!

Printable ESL Card Games Templates
Editable esl q and a winning cards game template download.
This game is a genius communicative idea. Bring a pack or more of playing cards to class. Each game must have 4 sheets that represent the four types of cards - CLUB, DIAMOND, HEART, SPADE. There are questions on each sheet that match the different cards on your playing cards pack. Paste the four sheets with questions on the four walls of the classroom (mind the short students- paste it at a legible height). Students line up and you quickly give them a playing card each. They quickly match the card to a question on one of the four sheets. For example if they have a card which is 8 SPADE, they go to the SPADE questions sheet, look for question 8, go and ask someone in the class and return to the teacher to report the answer of the student they asked and get another card. The winner is the student who got the most amount of cards from the teacher. Follow the links below to download the templates and also see samples of this activity. The video tutorial is for you to watch and learn how to make yours.
TEMPLATE SHEETS - DOWNLOAD ALL 4 Sheets - 1. CLUB SHEET 2. DIAMOND SHEET 3. HEART SHEET 4. SPADE SHEET
Free samples of this game can be found here >>, editable esl round table card game template download.
This Round Table card game can be used to give extended fun vocabulary, grammar and listening practice. Laminate, cut out and take the cards to class. This game is ideal for small groups of five or six. More than this is chaos. If you have a large class, split them up into small teams, but that means you have to create more sets of cards. Deal out one card each to students who sit around a table. The reason they sit round the table is to try to avoid others looking at the others' cards. The students do STONE, PAPER, SCISSORS to begin. The winner starts. The winner looks at the word on the card and gives a clue to the word. The first student to guess and shout out the word gets the card from the first player. If two or 3 students guess simultaneously, the students do STONE, PAPER, SCISSORS. The winner keeps the card.If the card is questions card, the student simply reads out the question and the first to answer gets the card. The next player in line carries on by giving clues to their card for others to guess and the game goes on. When one round has been completed, identify the winner. The winner is the one who won the most valuable card. Paste the game rules somewhere for students to see. After one round, deal out one card each for the next round. At the end of the game, the winner is the one with the most valuable card. If you still have a hard time understanding the above literature, simply understand this game as a card game variety of hot seat. Download the template to create your own exercises rapidly.
Editable Power Cards - ESL Sentence Building Card Game Rules Sheet
This game gets your students communicating almost immediately. Power card game is quite easy to set up. Just print out the rules sheet, bring a pack of playing cards to class. Start by explaining the rules to students. Do a topic or grammar point you want to practice. For example if you are practicing past simple tenses, tell students each time they need to make sentences in the past simple to play each round. The verbs they use should be different each time- no repetitions. The Power or Command Cards are the cards that can be used to slow down other players. Deal out 4 cards each. Again a small group of maximum 5 and a minimum of 2 is ideal for the game. The idea is to lose all the four cards quickly by playing them on the board. If they student has command cards, they can use them to stop, slow down and interrupt the next player. By slowing down the next player, they can finish first and win. The JOKER is the worst killer card. dropping a JOKER makes the next player to go to the card bank and draw 4 cards - a SLOW DOWN strategy. The card 7 is the next slow down command card. It orders the next player to draw 2 cards from the bank. The card A stops the next player from playing a round. The card J is another power card that orders the next player to play a card type of your choice. It is a game changer. If I have a heart and which I want to get rid of, I can order the next player to play a HEART card type. When they play that I can then get rid of my HEART card type. SEE SAMPLES BELOW.
