Working at Heights Training Online (VOC Refresher RIIWHS204E)

Our Working at Heights Training Online - (VOC Refresher RIIWHS204E) is curated to upskill those who frequently work at elevated positions with the latest knowledge and safety procedures. It is used as a verification of competency and/or refresher training for those who have previously completed a nationally recognised working at heights course (typically RIIWHS204E or RIIWHS202D). The essence of this course is to augment your comprehension of the risks associated with working at heights and the best safety systems at your disposal.

online refresher course working at heights

Welcome to the Work Safely at Heights Refresher / Verification of Competency (VOC) Training. There are a large number of risks and dangers for anybody working at heights. This course has been designed to give you an understanding of these risks and the system in place to help keep you safe.

This course is designed for those who are required to work at heights as part of their role. The aim of the course is to give you a safe working philosophy for when you need to perform work at heights.

Features of this refresher training include:

- Download a VOC Certificate of Completion on successful completion

- A Digital Wallet ID VOC Card is also issued once all your documentation is verified (see 'John Citizen' sample)

- Verification of competency by our RTO partner, AlertForce RTO Code 91826.

This training addresses the theoretical component of working at heights. This training does not give you the practical skills required to perform work at heights. To achieve accreditation, you should complete an in-person training session with a trainer accredited to deliver work at heights training.

If you perform work at heights before completing your in-person training you could endanger your safety and the safety of those around you.

This course delivers the theoretical component of RIIWHS204D and the latest RIIWHS204E Work safely at heights and will provide you with information about:

  • the legal requirements for working safely at heights and where you can find out more about them
  • how to select, use and maintain fall protective and rescue equipment
  • the process and procedures to follow to ensure you minimise risk, and
  • how to plan for emergency situations

THIS IS NOT A NATIONALLY RECOGNISED COURSE - ONLY TO BE USED FOR REFRESHER PURPOSES IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY ACHIEVED A STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT in RIIWHS204D or RIIWHS204E.

Note: Whilst a Statement of Attainments do not expire, different worksites have different policies and requirements of what refresher training should be and what is acceptable. Queensland sites, for example, typically want face to face only. You should check if you are unsure as there are no refunds available once you have downloaded certificates. This refresher course is a Verification of Competency undertaken by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO Code 91826).

What is covered during the course?

  • the principles to bear in mind when working at heights
  • safety procedures for work at heights
  • risk assessment procedures
  • fall protection equipment
  • working at heights equipment, and
  • emergency response

The equipment and tools we'll be discussing will include:

  • anchor points
  • lanyards and connecting equipment
  • fall arrest devices
  • fall protection
  • elevating work platforms (EWPs)
  • edge protections systems, and
  • general equipment maintenance.

Activities and quizzes appear throughout the course and are part of your assessment. They must be successfully completed to complete the course.

A Certificate of Completion is issued on successful completion of the course and you are required to get an 80% pass mark to be deemed as understanding the content. It is recommended that training is conducted every 2 years to stay refreshed.

Entry requirements:

1. You must upload 100 points of ID

2. You must upload a previously issued with a Statement of Attainment (or wallet card) by an RTO less than 3 years ago or be able to present a CV that demonstrates industry currency.

I have lost my previous Statement of Attainment. Can I still take this refresher course?

Unfortunately, proof of previous attainment in RIIWHS204D, RIIWHS204E, or RIIOHS204A, Work Safely at Heights, is necessary for enrolling in this refresher course. If you cannot provide this proof, we recommend attending our 1-day course to refresh your Working at Heights training.

What if I fail the assessments? Can I retake them?

Yes, you can retake the assessments if you don't achieve an 80% pass mark on your first attempt. Our aim is to ensure you fully understand the content and feel confident in your ability to work safely at heights.

If you're required to work at heights in any capacity, it's important to maintain updated knowledge and skills. Even if it's not your primary role, the safety practices and principles you'll learn in this course will be essential to maintaining your safety.

I completed my initial working at heights training overseas. Can I still take this Australian refresher course?

Employers must ensure that certain workers complete the courses that have been approved by the Chief Prevention Officer ( CPO ) and delivered by an approved training provider such as Safety First Training before they can work at heights.

The training requirement is for workers on construction projects who use any of the following methods of fall protection: travel restraint systems, fall restricting systems, fall arrest systems, safety nets and work belts or safety belts.

This training requirement is in the Occupational Health and Safety Awareness and Training Regulation , and is in addition to training requirements under the Construction Regulation.

Working at heights can be dangerous and poses a significant risk to workers’ safety. That’s why the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development requires workers who work at heights to receive Working at Heights Training.

The Working at Heights Training program is designed to educate workers on the hazards associated with working at heights and provide them with the skills and knowledge they need to work safely in elevated environments. The training covers topics such as:

  • Proper use of fall protection systems: Workers are taught how to correctly use equipment such as safety harnesses, lifelines, and anchorage points to protect themselves from falls.
  • Risk assessment: Workers learn how to identify and assess hazards associated with working at heights, such as uneven surfaces, slippery conditions, and unprotected edges.
  • Safety procedures: Workers are trained on safe work practices, such as maintaining three points of contact, properly securing tools and equipment, and following established safety protocols.
  • Emergency procedures: Workers are taught how to respond in the event of an emergency, such as a fall or other accident.

The importance of Working at Heights Training cannot be overstated. Falls from heights are a leading cause of workplace injuries and fatalities in Ontario, and many of these incidents are preventable with proper training and equipment. By providing workers with the knowledge and skills they need to work safely at heights, employers can help prevent injuries and save lives.

Working at heights training is a legal requirement in Ontario. Employers who fail to provide their workers with proper training can face fines and other penalties. By ensuring that their workers receive adequate training, employers can avoid legal liabilities and protect their reputation.

Working at Heights Training is essential for workers who work at heights in Ontario. It not only helps prevent workplace injuries and fatalities but also ensures compliance with legal requirements and protects employers from legal liabilities.

Course Overview

Pinnacle Safety and Training train more people to work safely at heights than any other provider in Australia.

This nationally recognised course covers theoretical and practical aspects of working at height.

During the course we will assist you to develop safe work method statements and risk assessments for working at height. All workers who conduct or supervise tasks whilst at height will find this course beneficial to workplace safety. This course will enable you to comply with current WHS legislation with successful trainees receiving a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.

Training can be conducted at your work site or off-site at one of our purpose built training facilities. Work at heights training is focused on fall prevention rather than fall arrest. It is designed to equip workers with the knowledge and skills to safely work in any height situation, primarily being aimed at general construction, maintenance, mining, large factories or other work situations where work is conducted in a place where a fall from one level to another is possible.

Pinnacle Safety and Training recognises that whilst there is a standard set of learning outcomes for this course, the context and environment in which the learning is applied is varied. We will always customise the course to suit your unique workplace requirements. Training covers risk assessment, selection and correct use of equipment, rigging and of anchor systems, fall restraint, work positioning and fall arrest systems.

For supervisors of work at height or anyone needing to develop rescue plans , please consider undertaking Working at Heights - 2 day training. Remember: Having a tested, effective rescue plan for all work at heights where a fall is possible is the law!
