अ’पनी छोटी परंपरा के बावजूद निबंध अपनी संपन्‍नता और विविधता में श्लाघ्य उअः । समाज से संबंधित सभी विषयों पर निबंध लिखे जाते हैं और इसीलिए इसमें शिल्पगत विविधता तथा शक्ति-सम्पन्नता मिलती है। निबंध, गद्य की सर्वाधिक सम्पन्न विधा है और इसमें भाषा का मानक तथा प्रांजल रूप सामने आता है। निबंध के विषय में लिखने का अभिप्राय न तो इसकी परिभाषा बतानी है, न इसका इतिहास बताना है और न ही इसकी शब्द-निष्पत्ति को विश्लेषित करना ही है, अपितु इसके विस्तृत क्षेत्र को उललेखित करना है। निबंध तो अपने खुलेपन के कारण किसी भी परिभाषा से परे है। वस्तुतः, यदि देखा जाए, तो परिभाषा किसी भी विधा को शासित और नियंत्रित नहीं करती। निबंध अपनी स्वच्छंद प्रवृत्ति के कारण अनेक दिशाओं में व्याप्त है। यह एक समृद्ध साहित्यिक विधा है और सम्प्रेषण का उत्कृष्ट साधन भी। निबंध अंग्रेजी साहित्य से हिंदी जगत में आई नवीन साहित्यिक विधा है। निबंध को अंग्रेजी शब्द “8554५” का अनुवाद माना जाता है जिसकी उत्पत्ति फ्रेंच भाषा के शब्द “8559 से हुई है, जिसका अर्थ है ‘प्रयास करना” या “गद्य में छोटी रचना!। इसका सर्वप्रथम प्रयोग 580 में मान्तेन द्वारा अपनी छोटी रचनाओं के लिए किया गया। मान्तेन को आधुनिक निबंध का जनक माना जाता है। उनके विचार में निबंध लेखक के व्यक्तिगत विचारों, उद्धरणों तथा कथाओं का मिश्रण है जो दूसरो तक सम्प्रेषित किए जाते हैं। अर्थात्‌ निबंध लेखक के अपने व्यक्तित्व तथा विचारों का प्रक्षेपण है। इसी प्रकार ऑक्सफोर्ड कन्साइज डिक्शनरी के अनुसार, निबंध किसी विषय पर आधारित एक ऐसी साहित्यिक रचना है जो आकार में लघु तथा गदूय में रची जाती है। एक निबंध प्रायः कुछ पृष्ठों का होता है, लेकिन इसकी कोई निश्चित लम्बाई नहीं होती (एक परीक्षा में, हालांकि, प्रायः शब्द सीमा दी जाती है; यदि नहीं दी गई है तो समय सीमा इसकी लम्बाई को सुनिश्चित करती है। तीन घंटे की समय सीमा की स्थिति में, आपसे| लगभग 2000-2500 शब्दों का निबंध लिखने की आशा की जाती है।॥)। विभिन्‍न प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं में निबंध को शामित्र करने का उट्टेश्य अभ्यर्थी की

भआषिक क्षमता के साथ-साथ उसकी वैचारिक दृष्टि तथा मानसिक प्रवृत्ति को परखना है। यही बात अभ्यर्थी को निबंध लेखन के लिए समझना अत्यंत आवश्यक है कि विषय कोई भी हो, आपके पास कितने भी तथ्य क्‍यों न हों, कितना ही ज्ञान भले क्यों न हो, परन्तु व्यक्तिगत दृष्टिकोण के बिना अच्छा निबंध लिखना अत्यंत दुष्कर कार्य है।

अभ्यर्थी को निबंध, प्रबंध तथा लेख में भी स्पष्ट अंतर ज्ञात होना चाहिए। परीक्षक को पर्याप्त अनुभव तथा ज्ञान होता है और वह भल्री-भांति निबंध, प्रबंध तथा लेख मैं उपस्थित अंतर को जानता है। इसलिए अभ्यर्थी के लिए भी इसे समझना आवश्यक है। प्रबंध में लेखक विषय संबंधी ज्ञानचातुर्य को सूक्ष्म विवेचन के आधार पर विशिष्ट आषा शैली क॑ माध्यम से प्रस्तुत करता है। लेखक के अदृश्य रहने से उसके व्यक्तित्व का समावेश प्रवंध में नहीं होता तथा आकार की दृष्टि से भी यह निबंध से कई गुना हो सकता है, जबकि निवंध में लेखक के निजी विचारों तथा हृदयानुभूति को लघु आकार होने पर भी पूरा स्थान मिलता है।

प्रबंध में पुस्तकीय ज्ञान का महत्व अधिक होता है और निबंध में हार्दिकता तथा विचार का समन्वय होता है। प्रबंध और निबंध की भाषा-शैली में भी बहुत अंतर होता है। प्रबंध की भाषा तथा रचना शैली विद्धतापूर्ण, यहां तक कि कभी-कभी पारिभाषिक शब्दावली जैसी, शुष्क तथा धीर-गंभीर होती है और निबंध की भाषा और शैली मनोरम, सुगम तथा सरस होती है।

इसी प्रकार लेख (१7४०९) निबंध की तुलना मैं भावगत विशेषताओं के आधार पर प्रबंध के अधिक निकट होता है। लेख सूचना प्रधान होता है, जिसमें तथ्यों की महत्ता दूसरी विधाओं की तुलना में अधिक होती है। लेख में लेखक के व्यक्तित्व की छाप भी रहती है, लेकिन निबंध की तुलना में वेहद कम क्योंकि लेख में सूचना का तत्व प्रभावी हो जाता है और निबंध में लेखक की आत्माभिव्यक्ति को महत्वपूर्ण स्थान दिया जाता है।

“निवंध’ को ‘संघ लोक सेवा आयोग’ के साथ-साथ विभिन्‍न राज्यों के लोक सेवाआयोगों की मुख्य परीक्षाओं में एक विषय के रूप मैं स्थापित किया गया है। “संघ लोक सेवा आयोग’ की मुख्य परीक्षा में जब से निबंध को विषय के रूप में स्थापित किया गया है, तब से परीक्षा की उत्तीर्णता में इसकी अहम भूमिका हो गयी है। निबंध के लिए 250 अंक निर्धारित किए गए हैं जिसमें दो खण्डों (खण्ड क और खण्ड ख) के अंतर्गत प्रत्येक में एक निबंध करना होता है और प्रत्येक निबंध की शब्द सीमा 000-200 के बीच होनी चाहिए। यदि इसमें सम्यक्‌ विषय का चयन कर शिल्प एवं कथ्य दोनों की सम्पुष्ट अभिव्यक्ति की जाए, तो अधिकाधिक अंक प्राप्त किए जा सकते हैं। लोक सेवा आयोगों की परीक्षाओं में एक-एक अंक कितने मायने रखते हैं, यह तो इसके अभ्यर्थी अच्छी तरह से जानते ही हैं।

निबंध के प्रकार

प्रकृति के आधार पर विद्वान निबंध के मुख्यतः चार प्रकार मानते हैं. 0) वर्णनात्मक; (४) भावात्मक; (॥) व्याख्यात्मक; तथा (५) विचारात्मक। वर्णनात्मक किसी घटना, वस्तु एवं दृश्य का सजीव वर्णन रोचक तरीके से किया जाता है।

भावात्मक कल्पना प्रधान, चिंतन मनन से हटकर जीवन में राग और भावना का संचार करने वाले विषयों को भावात्मक निबंधों की श्रेणी में रखा जाता है।

व्याख्यात्मक किसी विषय जैसे ऐतिहासिक, पौराणिक तथा जीवनियां आदि से संबंधित कहानी तथा कथा का रोचक वर्णन इसके अंतर्गत आता है।

विचारात्मक मनोवैज्ञानिक, साहित्यिक, सामाजिक, दार्शनिक, वैज्ञानिक एवं विषय संबंधी जैसे अर्थशास्त्र आदि से संबंधित सिद्धांत तथा विचार सूत्र इसके अंतर्गत आते हैं। चिंतन, मनन, अनुभव तथा तर्क के आधार पर विचारात्मक निबंधों का सृजन होता है।

विभिन्‍न प्रकार के निबंधों में से विचारात्मक निबंधों को सर्वश्रेष्ठ माना जाता है क्योंकि केवल विचारात्मक निबंधों में ही लेखक को अपने भावों तथा भाषा की पूर्ण अभिव्यक्ति करने का पूरा स्थान और अवसर प्राप्त होता है। इसलिए सामान्यतः विचारात्मक निबंध को अन्य की अपेक्षा श्रेष्ठ माना जाता है। यद्यपि भावात्मक निबंध की अपनी विशेष महत्ता है। यह ध्यान रखा जाना चाहिए कि कोई भी निबंधकार विचारात्मक एवं भावात्मक में से किसी भी तत्व की अवहेलना कर निबंध की रचना नहीं कर सकता। विचारों और भावों की यथोचित युति से ही उत्तम श्रेणी के निबंधों की रचना होती है।

परीक्षार्थियों से निबंध के संदर्भ में जो अपेक्षाएं रखी जाती हैं, उन्हें निम्न बिंदुओं के आलोक में परखा जा सकता है

() विषय का चयन; (॥) विचारों की क्रमबद्धता; (॥) विषय से निकटता; (0) संक्षिप्तता; (४) प्रभावशीलता एवं अभिव्यक्ति की सटीकता; (छा) भाषागत शुद्धि; (शत) कध्य एवं शिल्प का सुंदर समायोजन। निबंध का प्रारूप निबंध लेखन की दृष्टि से निबंध का प्रारूप अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। सामान्यतः निबंध को तीन भागों 0) भूमिका या विषय-निरूपण; (8) कथ्य या व्याख्या या मुख्य भाग; (99) निष्कर्ष या उपसंहार में रखा जाता है।

विराम का अर्थ, ठहराव या रुकना जिस तरह हम काम करते समय बीच–बीच में रुकते और फिर आगे बढ़ते हैं, वैसे ही लेखक में भी विराम की आवश्यकता होती है, अत: पाठक के मनोविज्ञान को ध्यान में रखते हुए भाषा में विरामो का उपयोग आवश्यक है। श्री कामता प्रसाद गुरु जी ने विराम चिन्हों को अंग्रेजी से लिया हुआ मानते हैं। वे पूर्ण विराम को छोड़ शेष सभी विराम चिन्हों को अंग्रेजी से सम्बृद करते हैं।

• क्रिया (क्रिया): क्रिया की विधिवाचन, काल (वर्तमान, भूत, भविष्य), और आवश्यकता (संकेतक, आदेशक, संभावनात्मक) के बारे में अध्ययन करें।
• विशेषण (विशेषण): जानें कि विशेषण कैसे संज्ञाओं को वर्णन करने के लिए प्रयुक्त होते हैं और उनका लिंग और वचन के साथ मेल कैसे खाता है।

4. हिंदी मुहावरे और कहावतें:

Tips for the Hindi Language Paper

Paper ‘A’ is the first paper in the UPSC civil services exam and it is the compulsory Indian/regional language paper. It is mandatory for all candidates to take this paper except candidates hailing from the north-eastern states of Mizoram, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland. Other candidates can take any of the languages in the 8 th schedule of the Constitution. Most candidates, on an average, 65% select Hindi as the Indian language paper, although only 43.63% of the people in India have Hindi as their mother tongue. In this article, we give you a few pointers on how to tackle the Hindi language paper in the UPSC mains exam.

Why you should not ignore the Compulsory Language Papers?

Even though the language papers are qualifying in nature and the marks obtained in them are not counted for the final ranking, it would be foolish to ignore their preparation entirely. As per official information, in the year 2010, around 10% of the candidates who took the mains were failed because they did not secure the minimum marks required in the language papers. In this scenario, candidates would not be able to know how they performed in the GS papers because these papers wouldn’t be evaluated unless they clear the compulsory papers. So, candidates should invest the minimum time required to clear these papers.

The minimum marks required for the compulsory Indian language paper: 30% (90/300 marks)

Study Material for Hindi Language Paper (Hindi compulsory paper UPSC book):

• Samanya Hindi Book by Unique Publications
• UPSC question papers of the past 10 years

It should be noted that you don’t need to study the literature of Hindi but only the basics of the language since it is a test of the Hindi ‘language’. For English medium aspirants, there is no need to read Hindi newspapers. You just need to clear this paper.

Point to remember:

The paper is to be written in the Devanagari script only except the translation from Hindi to English which you must, of course, write in the Latin script (script of the English language).

Questions asked in the Hindi language paper:

• Nibandh: Hindi Essay: 2 essays (no choice in the topics) each for 50 marks totalling 100 marks.
• Gadyansh: Reading comprehension: 12 passages each for 5 marks totalling 60 marks.
• Sankshepan: Précis writing: Here you have to condense a piece of prose given, for 60 marks.
• Anuvad: Translation: From English to Hindi (20 marks) and Hindi to English (20 marks) totalling 40 marks.
• 10 marks questions: Muhavare; Shudhi; Paryayavachi; Yugm (totalling 40 marks)

UPSC Exam Tips in Hindi:

• Before the exam, have writing practice in the Devanagari script (especially if you are not from a Hindi medium background/Hindi medium aspirant).
• Have a good vocabulary of Hindi words. Note down words and their usage during preparation.
• For the essay questions, read about 20 essays from a good essay book. Before the exam, practice around 5 essays. That should be sufficient for you to get through.
• The last section on proverbs and grammar are generally easy and you can easily score maximum marks here since they are objective questions.
• Attempt the précis writing question at the very end as it takes a lot of time.
