Case study definition

case study of vanitas 11

Case study, a term which some of you may know from the "Case Study of Vanitas" anime and manga, is a thorough examination of a particular subject, such as a person, group, location, occasion, establishment, phenomena, etc. They are most frequently utilized in research of business, medicine, education and social behaviour. There are a different types of case studies that researchers might use:

• Collective case studies

• Descriptive case studies

• Explanatory case studies

• Exploratory case studies

• Instrumental case studies

• Intrinsic case studies

Case studies are usually much more sophisticated and professional than regular essays and courseworks, as they require a lot of verified data, are research-oriented and not necessarily designed to be read by the general public.

How to write a case study?

It very much depends on the topic of your case study, as a medical case study and a coffee business case study have completely different sources, outlines, target demographics, etc. But just for this example, let's outline a coffee roaster case study. Firstly, it's likely going to be a problem-solving case study, like most in the business and economics field are. Here are some tips for these types of case studies:

• Your case scenario should be precisely defined in terms of your unique assessment criteria.

• Determine the primary issues by analyzing the scenario. Think about how they connect to the main ideas and theories in your piece.

• Find and investigate any theories or methods that might be relevant to your case.

• Keep your audience in mind. Exactly who are your stakeholder(s)? If writing a case study on coffee roasters, it's probably gonna be suppliers, landlords, investors, customers, etc.

• Indicate the best solution(s) and how they should be implemented. Make sure your suggestions are grounded in pertinent theories and useful resources, as well as being realistic, practical, and attainable.

• Carefully proofread your case study. Keep in mind these four principles when editing: clarity, honesty, reality and relevance.

REVIEW: ‘The Case Study of Vanitas,’ Episode 11 – “Promises”

Olive St. Sauver

Even in its lighthearted interim, The Case Study of Vanitas Episode 11,  there is still plenty of juicy vampire intrigue and sensuality to go around. Adapted from the manga of the same name by Jun Mochizuki ( Pandora Hearts ), studio BONES ( My Hero Academia ) brings the stunning work and steampunk Paris to life. Vanitas, a human who claims to be a vampire doctor, carries around the cursed grimoire of the Vampire of the Blue Moon. Noé, whose childhood friend was a curse-bearer, seeks to learn more about the Vampire of the Blue Moon and follows Vanitas.

The Case Study of Vanitas Episode 11  centers on Jeanne and Vanitas going on a date. Yes, you read that right. While Vanitas’s treatment of Jeanne (and being a general jerk to people) has been cringeworthy , this episode is a lot more lighthearted. Previously, Vanitas had divulged to Noé that he loved Jeanne because she would never love him back. Therefore, Jeanne comically decides to pretend to be enamored with him to scare him off. Straight out of a shojo manga, this doesn’t go according to plan, as Jeanne sees a softer side of Vanitas on their date and may be second-guessing her hatred of the man after all.

While it is a little frustrating to see Jeanne fall for Vanitas simply because he is now meeting the bare minimum of being a decent person, the date scenario is comical. There are plenty of good Jeanne, Domi, and Vanitas moments as they catch each other off guard throughout Paris. It also provides more insight into Jeanne’s character, as it is clear she hasn’t been treated well by her kin.

Speaking of kin,  The Case Study of Vanitas Episode 11 may catch viewers off guard if they didn’t stick around until the end of the credits last week . A short scene revealed that Lord Ruthven may be working behind the scenes and causing much of the havoc that is being wrought upon Paris. This is relevant this week, as Ruthven asks Noé out for lunch to talk. Their portion of the episode is a great way to add tension and progress the plot while viewers still have fun. It smartly cuts back and forth between the two at key points, so viewers can see how the two separate occurrences intertwine.

The Case Study of Vanitas Episode 11 has more good steamy vampires scenes as well. The voice actors as well as the camera angles don’t pretend that the act of sucking one’s blood isn’t a stand-in for sex . Everything from blushes, moans, and fingers curling fill the scenes where this happens. Major points to the show for committing fully to this fun element of vampirism. Contrastingly, in this episode, when a character has their blood sucked unwillingly, these reactions do not happen. The enjoyment comes from the characters’ mutual consent.

The Case Study of Vanitas Episode 11 is a fun outing and respite after last week feeling on the heavy side. It has more good sexy vampire scenes. If there had to be a downside, it would be Jeanne’s opinion of Vanitas changing only because he crosses the low bar of not being an ass this time around.

The Case Study of Vanitas  is streaming now on Funimation, with new episodes premiering Fridays.

The Case Study of Vanitas Episode 11

How would you rate episode 11 of the case study of vanitas community score: 4.4.

case study of vanitas 11

One of the most interesting aspects of The Case Study of Vanitas is the way each episode gives us a deeper understanding of the story's world. For example, Vanitas and Jeanne's “date” lets us know that we are at some point between 1885 and 1889 in an alternate version of our world, where instead of the Eiffel Tower, Paris built the Sun Tower for the world exhibition. (It was an actual competing design at the time.) We also now know that vampires, in addition to being born rather than turned, are perfectly visible in mirrors, another bit of important lore that helps illustrate why humans are so afraid of them: they're potential predators hiding in plain sight until their eyes burn red. Those may seem like little things, but they support the main story by grounding it in a reality that feels, for lack of a better word, real . They also unfortunately make things like the inaccurate top of Jeanne's dress (no cleavage for daytime wear!) or the distinctly Japanese style of crêpe stand out more, but that's a fair tradeoff for a series with so much solid worldbuilding.

This week's episode is one that bides its time. At first it seems like a goofy throwaway episode: Jeanne, mistakenly thinking that acting interested in Vanitas will fend him off, asks him on a date, Dante and Domi tail them, and Ruthven takes Noé out for tea. All very light and fluffy, tra la la. It isn't until the very end that we start to see both the meaning of the French title for the week (oath) and what the actual end goal is: Jeanne's curse takes hold in public and Ruthven makes it clear that Noé is insufficiently vampiric to merit a place in his plans.

In truth, I think Ruthven's attack on Noé is the meat of the episode. Jeanne more or less functions to distract us from the more serious pieces, but also to occupy Vanitas so that Ruthven can get to Noé in the first place. It doesn't seem likely that she, or Domi, were aware of this; possibly Ruthven is simply taking advantage of Vanitas being out of the way to launch his plans. But he's also Luca's de facto guardian, so it wouldn't have been hard for him to slip a word in Jeanne's ear about when to invite Vanitas out – assuming that he doesn't have some sort of mind control power to use on her. Given the lack of overt supernatural details in the series' vampire mythology, that seems less likely, but Ruthven also isn't someone to underestimate, and if anyone was going to be able to exercise such a skill, my money's very much on him.

As for why Ruthven is so anti-human (and don't we all have some days where we are), the truth seems to lie in his past. He was, he tells Noé, once a teacher, but all of his students are now dead. Certainly old age could have done that, but the implication is more that the deaths of his students have made him disinclined to trust humans – and that he wasn't pleased when relations between the two races normalized. He's therefore, as was hinted at in previous episodes, actively working to separate humans and vampires and put the two groups on bad footing again. Is this so that he can separate the two worlds? Or is it so that he can have an excuse to kill humans indiscriminately? Right now I'm thinking that the answer is both, but in order to get to the point where he can better embark upon his plans, he needs people like Noé out of the picture. Noé's equalist views are not what he's looking for in whatever brave new world he's planning.

We are essentially working with two oaths. The first is Ruthven's to wreak havoc on human/vampire relations, which may include the deaths of Luca, Noé, Vanitas, and anyone else who stands in his way. (Is this what happened to Luca's brother?) The second is Vanitas' to Jeanne – that he will kill her if her curse overwhelms her. That's looking disturbingly possible after this week, because she's clearly having a lot of trouble controlling herself and just the sight (and scent) of a scraped knee sent her into a frenzy that even sexualized bloodsucking performed on Vanitas couldn't snap her out of. It's a grim place to end the episode, and there are no guarantees that anything or anyone will turn out okay when the curtain rises next week.

The Case Study of Vanitas is currently streaming on Funimation .

The Case Study of Vanitas Manga Volume 1

There once lived a vampire known as Vanitas, hated by his own kind for being born under a full blue moon, as most arise on the night of a crimson one. Afraid and alone, he created the “Book of Vanitas,” a cursed grimoire that would one day take his vengeance on all vampires; this is how the story goes, at least.

Vanitas no Karte follows Noé Archiviste, a young man who is traveling aboard an airship in 19th century Paris with one goal in mind: to find the Book of Vanitas. A sudden vampire attack leads him to meet the enigmatic Vanitas, a doctor who specializes in vampires and, much to Noé’s surprise, an entirely ordinary human. The mysterious doctor has inherited both the name and the infamous text from the Vanitas of legend, using the grimoire to heal his patients. But behind his kind demeanor lies something a bit more sinister…

Centuries prior to the French Revolution, the " World Formula " theory was proposed by Paracelsus which posited that the world was governed by mathematical formulas whose variables could be identified and altered. He aspired to change these variables in an attempt to erase suffering and bring happiness to humanity, which resulted in the event known as " Babel ." Innumerable calamities rocked the world to its core, causing massive amounts of death, and once it subsided new entities came into being in the world, primely the Vampire species . Deemed abominations before God, normal humans attempted to wipe out these new beings, and a race war ensued. This attempted genocide failed and Vampires began to hide their existences which came to be believed as no more than myth and legend, despite dwelling only one step beyond the human world.

Noé Archiviste , a young vampire living in late 19th century France, is sent by his Teacher to Paris to find the Book of Vanitas and discover its true nature. Supposedly, the Book of Vanitas is a cursed grimoire created by the Vampire of the Blue Moon from which the incurable disease Malnomen originates. Noé successfully discovers the Book on his way to Paris, as well as the person possessing it—a human calling himself Vanitas who uses the grimoire to cure Malnomen. Vanitas declares his goal to be the salvation of the entire race of Vampires, and Noé accompanies him for his entire journey, wishing to understand the true nature of not only the Book but also the enigmatic owner who wields it.

The story consists of Noé's memoirs on how he would come to eventually kill Vanitas with his own hands.

Terminology [ ]

Vampires [ ].

Though referred to as "vampires," the Vampire race within The Case Study of Vanitas are distinct from mythical vampires, and were in fact named after them for having certain similarities. The main distinguishing feature between Vampires and humans is the ability of Vampires to see and interact with the World Formula , allowing them certain superhuman abilities. Unlike mythical vampires, Vampires within The Case Study of Vanitas do not have to drink blood or harm others to survive, and the vast majority go their entire lives without harming humans. While most (but not all) Vampires do enjoy the taste of blood, it is not a biological need, and is compared to alcohol, smoking, or sex. Compulsive blood drinking only occurs in the case of blood addiction or Malnomen .

Most Vampires are born under the Crimson Moon, and have a natural fear of the Blue Moon. Those who are born under the Blue Moon, as in the case of Vanitas of the Blue Moon , are scorned and ostracized by other Vampirekind.

The Book of Vanitas [ ]

A cursed grimoire supposedly passed on to Vanitas by Vanitas of the Blue Moon themself. It is the originator of the disease Malnomen, created in revenge against Vampires for their prosecution of those born under the Blue Moon. The human Vanitas now has the Book of Vanitas within his possession and is the only person capable of using it. However, contrary to the Book's original purpose, Vanitas uses it to cure cases of Malnomen and desires to save the Vampire race.

Malnomen [ ]

A disease created by Vanitas of the Blue Moon . It attacks the True Name of vampires, causing their bodies and souls to warp. Those infected with Malnomen, usually called curse bearers, gradually grow insane and begin to obsessively search for blood, escalating until they assault and even kill others without hesitation. In addition, their bodies will corrupt, though the onset of physical symptoms appear to happen rapidly in the final stages of the disease. Once warping of the body occurs, the curse bearer will continue to attack others until it dies. Until very recently, there was no possible way to cure those infected with Malnomen, and thus all curse bearers would be sentenced to execution by decapitation once their condition was discovered. The human Vanitas reverse engineers the different forms of Malnomen to find and restore the curse bearer's True Name, curing them.

The Case Study of Vanitas is written and illustrated by Jun Mochizuki and began serialization in Square Enix's monthly shōnen magazine Monthly Gangan Joker on December 2015. There are currently nine tankōbon volumes collecting serial chapters released in Japanese. The series is licensed in English by Yen Press and published simultaneously with its Japanese release.

The Case Study of Vanitas is an anime television series adaptation of the manga written and illustrated by Jun Mochizuki. On March 28, 2021, Aniplex announced at AnimeJapan an anime adaptation for the manga, animated by the studio BONES. It started broadcasting on July 2, 2021.

Stage Play [ ]

Stage "Vanitas no Carte" is a stage play adaptation of the manga written and illustrated by Jun Mochizuki. Announced by the official Twitter account on October 28, 2021. The show was initially scheduled from January 21st to January 30th, 2022 at the THEATRE1010 (シアター1010), in Tokyo, Japan. An encore was performed from March 10th to March 12th, 2023 at the Sunshine Theater (サンシャイン劇場), in Tokyo, Japan.

Episode info.

The Case Study of Vanitas Episode 11: A Date With Jeanne

vanitas jeanne date

Episode 11 of The Case Study of Vanitas is now out (on Funimation )! It begins with Vanitas receiving a mysterious letter, as Noe sleeps in his usual awkward pose. He goes to the spot from the letter, and is greeted by none other than Jeanne. She seems embarrassed, but also determined to fulfill her goal. We learn that it’s an idea she got from Dominique, and it’s to try confessing to Vanitas to make him lose interest. Not surprisingly, it backfires, and it leads to an episode filled with best girl, as Vanitas and Jeanne go on a date.

vanitas jeanne date

It’s just like the usual adorable moments we occasionally get between Vanitas and Jeanne, only it’s an actual date and so it lasts longer and is even more wholesome. They enjoy a tour of Paris, with Jeanne showing her love for food and compliments. Vanitas obviously messed around from the start, but it seems like he really cares for her, and it will be interesting to see how their relationship develops. Dominique and Dante following them in the background was also precious!

vanitas jeanne date

While the majority of the episode focused on the wholesome side with the Vanitas x Jeanne date, it wasn’t all cheerful. Lord Ruthven had a talk with Noe, which seemed to be going fine all the way until the end. However, I’m curious as to why he ‘failed’ Noe when he said he doesn’t care about someone being human or vampire. We saw him bite into Noe, and we can only guess what will happen next. The other more serious topic was Jeanne’s lust for blood, and it seems like Ruthven was involved with that as well. There’s certainly a lot of mystery around him, but at the moment he seems to be more a foe than friend.

vanitas jeanne date

With the way the date finished, Vanitas and Jeanne have at least strengthened their bond (with him promising to kill her in the worst case scenario). Episode 12 will be the final one for Part 1, and its title is “Point of Departure”. Premieres on Funimation on October 17, 2021.
