Review: Sea Glass by Anita Shreve
Sea Glass by Anita Shreve My rating: 5 of 5 stars This book turned out to be so much better than I had thought when I first started it. It starts with quite a lot of description, which turned me off immediately; too much description in the beginning leaves me bored since there's not enough context to give it deeper meaning.
Sea Glass
Anita Shreve has a knack for fashioning compelling fiction from historical vistas, and SEA GLASS is no exception. The story evolves over a year's time, beginning several months before the great stock market crash, an event that acts as a character in much the same way as the pieces of sea glass that so beguile Honora.

Anita Shreve grew up in Dedham, Massachusetts (just outside Boston), the eldest of three daughters. Early literary influences include having read Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton when she was a junior in high school (a short novel she still claims as one of her favorites) and everything Eugene O'Neill ever wrote while she was a senior (to which she attributes a somewhat dark streak in her own work).
