Hifiengine.com has service manuals for your ARs. Wow, that receiver is rated at 100 watts! Looking at the manuals, that stuff looks pretty well designed.

I've got 2 racks of them dere models , great sound , very punchy . The int you have I believe is 40 watts , the later model AR-07 is a bit more powerful , 70 watts . Hard to beat sound wise . when connected with the matching tuner they are remote control. I picked up a few of those over the years and they are doing service with buddies now . I still have 2 of the '07 amps , 2 tuners , the CD player and the tape deck . The CD player is actually very good , uses the Philips laser , hard to find now . And to boot the amps have a pretty decent phono section and make a decent pre amp . I have heard that they have some connection to Proton of that era ??
Hey Brother from the Great Frozen North... Thanks for your response.Haven't done anything with the X-10/C-06 yet.I am waiting for a Fellow AKer to come over to help out. What is the Bottle in your pic ?
I can fix it but good...
Mildly rare pieces as they didn't get the kind of distribution the majors did. I have the ARX-04 receiver, AR CD-04 CD player and the RC-02 remote. Bought them all new when I was an AR dealer. There was a post about these last month: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=256128&highlight=player JimB

No, must have been a different Masshole. I was a AR car stereo dealer for many years which allowed me to score these as well as an XA turntable. AR was nearby though. These are probably one of those pieces that just don't get no respect (no respect at all). JimB

Dear JimB (or anyone else for that matter): I know that this is a very late postscript to this thread, but since I recently picked up a fully functioning AR X-10 receiver (minus only the remote and the AM antenna), I was wondering whether you might know where I can get an owner's manual (I already downloaded the easy-to-find service manual). Please let me know if you do. I am by no means averse to paying a reasonable amount for a copy--either (1) a paper original or repro or (2) a PDF--but I wouldn't sneer at free, of course. Incidentally, if you or anyone else knows the model number of the appropriate remote or where I might get it, I'd be glad to learn that, too. Ditto for the snap-on AM antenna. Thanks in advance.
Bad timing - I just sold mine with all the manuals last week. I wouldn't worry about the AM antenna - you could use just about any other AM coil antenna or just don't listen to AM.
- Jan 28, 2012
Very good of you to reply so promptly, Jim, even though the news isn't good. I'm afraid that bad timing is practically my middle name.
If you have any questions about it's operation please feel free to post them here. It's all rather self explanatory so the manual shouldn't be a deal breaker for you to enjoy these.
- Jan 30, 2012
"It's all rather self explanatory so the manual shouldn't be a deal breaker for you to enjoy these." I'm counting on it, Jim. I have owned an AR A-06 integrated amp since 1988—as you will recall, the A-06 and X-10 were released the same year and have many internal components and much circuitry in common—and even when I had a lot more cash than I do now, I never felt let down by it or inclined to replace it. Sometime in the past eighteen months, however, the on/off switch for the tone control circuitry stopped working. With the controls out of the loop, everything is dandy; but switching them in causes the left channel to go completely silent. Since looking at the schematic failed to make clear to me why such a curious thing should happen, I just put up with the annoyance rather than entrust the unit to someone whose repair might cost me more than I paid for the amp thirty years ago. Thus, when the chance to pick up a mint-condition X-10 for under $150 came along last month, I pounced. Even absent the manual, do you perchance know whether the X-04 and the X-10 used the same remote, the RC-02, which you mention above? I recall seeing one of those on the bay for about $10 a year or so ago, and there's one now for $25. I'm not sure I want to drop the quarter for a remote I won't have much occasion to use, but if the finances ever improve, who knows what luxuries I may indulge! Best regards, Tom
I suspect that they do use the same remote. Perhaps you can search for sales of the individual units that include the remote. Frankly I rarely used my remote. As far as the tone switch problem I'd recommend opening the unit and investigating for cracked solder joints where the switch attaches to the circuit board. Then I would use some Caig brand DeOxit spray to remove the corrosion in the switch assembly.
- Jan 31, 2012
Your suggested cure sounds simple and straightforward enough even for someone such as me; i.e., someone who considers fixing a wall switch a task to be approached only after thorough study—and updating of his will. Thanks; I may give it a try.

I still have a remote laying around for the RC-03 unit if anyone is interested in it. I will have to find it but I still have it and the box it came in. Remote is used but still works fine. I sold my whole set with everything and had this extra remote.
It will also control the CD player, Receiver & Tuner.

This is an excellent, powerful amplifier with a distinctive design that is admittedly, not to everyone's taste. Sound quality is possibly the best I've heard in the price range and I have owned and heard many manufacturers' components and systems. A very solid but refined sound through my Quad 11L speakers and the bass in particular can sound like I'm in a concert hall without ever becoming overbearing. I stumbled upon an A-04 a while ago and liked it so much I searched for this, it's supremely better big brother. It won't get compliments for it's looks but as far as sound goes it's definitely a keeper.

The possibility of using furfurol for the production of ash-free high-strength active carbons with spheroidal particles as adsorbents and catalyst supports is substantiated. A single-stage process that incorporates the resinification of furfurol, the molding of a spherical product, and its hardening while allowing the process cycle time and the cost of equipment to be reduced is developed. Derivatographic, X-ray diffraction, mercury porometric, and adsorption studies of the carbonization of the molded spherical product are performed to characterize the development of the primary and porous structures of carbon residues. Ash-free active carbons with spheroidal particles, a full volume of sorbing micro- and mesopores (up to 1.50 cm 3 /g), and a uniquely high mechanical strength (its abrasion rate is three orders of magnitude lower than that of industrial active carbons) are obtained via the vapor-gas activation of a carbonized product. The obtained active carbons are superior to all known foreign and domestic analogues and are promising for the production of catalysts that operate under severe regimes, i.e., in moving and fluidized beds.

A study of the acoustic irradiation of a moving uniform linear array consisting of a transverse distribution of quadrupoles with an arbitrary disposition of radiators is described. Analytic expressions for the acoustic irradiation were obtained. A mathematical simulation of the pressure amplitude-angle curve vs. array speed, aerial element number, and radiation frequency was performed. The ...
Acoustic Control Systems Ltd. 20, Moscow, Russia The main feature of EMA thickness gauge A1270 is absence of a permanent magnet, thus allowing sidestepping of strong adhesion of the transducer to the surfaces of the objects made of ferromagnetic steel, allowing scanning of the object being inspected, and preventing metal chips from sticking to ...

The possibility of using furfurol for the production of ash-free high-strength active carbons with spheroidal particles as adsorbents and catalyst supports is substantiated. A single-stage process that incorporates the resinification of furfurol, the molding of a spherical product, and its hardening while allowing the process cycle time and the ...
