My Sister’s Wedding Essay & Paragraphs for Students

Last month, my big sister Sarah got married! It was one of the most exciting days ever. In this essay, I am going to tell you all about her wedding and why it was so special. I will talk about everything from getting ready to the ceremony and reception. It definitely was a day I will never forget!

My Sister’s Big Day – Weeding Day

Getting ready.

The morning of the wedding was so fun but also a bit crazy. All the bridesmaids, including me, went to Sarah’s house to help her get ready. We did our hair and makeup, played music, and laughed a lot. I felt so grown up in my dress! Nevertheless, Sarah looked the most beautiful – her white dress was huge and puffy. We took tons of pictures before the ceremony. When it was time to leave, I was both nervous and excited about what was coming next.

The Ceremony

We all piled into fancy cars and drove to the church. There were flowers and ribbons everywhere, making it feel magical. When the music started, I walked slowly down the aisle ahead of Sarah, trying not to trip in my high heels! When she came around the corner with our dad, I thought she looked like a real princess. The pastor talked for what seemed like forever, but it was actually really nice. Then Sarah and her new husband Jeremy kissed – yuck! However, everyone cheered so loudly.

The Reception

After pictures at the church, we went to a big party in a fancy hall. The DJ played fun music, and everyone danced, even some of the older people, which was funny. They cut the wedding cake too, which had about a million layers and was much too sweet! I sat at a special kid’s table with my cousins, and we had the best meal ever, way better than normal dinners. At the end of the night, Sarah and Jeremy left in a limo to go on their honeymoon, throwing flowers and rice everywhere as they drove off into the night. I hope they had an amazing trip!

My Favorite Memories

If I had to pick, I think my three favorite parts of the wedding were,

1) dancing with all my girl cousins during one of the songs.

2) catching the flower bouquet that Sarah threw into the crowd (even though I am way too young to get married!).

3) giving a short speech at the reception about how much I love my big sister. Those moments really made the day super special for me.

Looking Back

Now that some time has passed since the wedding, I enjoy looking through the pictures with Sarah and reliving the magical day. She seems really happy with Jeremy, and I am glad they got their fairy tale wedding. Planning it must have been much work, but it turned out perfect. I hope that someday, maybe in 15 more years, I will get to have a big fancy wedding just like Sarah’s!

In conclusion, my sister Sarah’s wedding was definitely one of the best days ever. From getting ready to celebrate at the reception, the whole event was like something out of a movie. I feel lucky that I got to be a part of her special day and make so many wonderful memories. Her marriage is starting a new chapter, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Sarah and Jeremy!

How to Create a Unique Wedding Ceremony That Honors Your Love Story

When it comes to wedding ceremonies, there's a general outline that's usually followed: Processional, welcome, readings, vows, kiss, pronouncement, recessional—you're married! But there's no reason you have to adhere to the traditional order. If you're wondering how to plan a wedding ceremony that's entirely unique, feel free to throw out the script and start from scratch. Or, you can take a ceremony format you like, and then customize it to reflect your relationship.

We turned to JP Reynolds, M.Div. , a celebrity officiant who has officiated more than 1,000 weddings and the author of How to Officiate a Non-Denominational Wedding Ceremony , to find out where to start. "The first thing to do is figure out what you do (and don't) want in your ceremony," says Reynolds. "Is there a tradition you love, or something you saw at a wedding that made you think, 'never at mine.'"

The traditions you love should become key elements as you put the ceremony together. You'll also want to talk to your future spouse about what the ceremony means to the both of you. "Is the ceremony the heart of your celebration, or is it something you have to do so you can get to the party?" Reynolds asks.

Meet the Expert

JP Reynolds, M.Div., is a celebrity officiant who has officiated more than 1,000 non-denominational, interfaith, cross-cultural, and same-sex wedding ceremonies. He is the author of "How to Officiate a Non-Denominational Wedding Ceremony."

"A personalized ceremony allows people to feel rooted and renewed, and provides people with the opportunity to give you that big, tight hug and bless and confirm your union," says Reynolds. Here, he shares his expert tips on how to create a wedding ceremony that will do just that.

Find an Officiant You Connect To

The officiant plays a huge role in your ceremony. Try to find someone with whom you connect. If you don't already have a relationship with a pastor or officiant, don't feel pressured to choose someone just because of their title. It's fairly simple for anyone to become an officiant . Think of a friend or family member who would be honored to take on this special role and see if they would become an officiant for your wedding.

Acknowledge the Past, Present, and Future

No matter where you're getting married, whether it's at a five-star resort or in your backyard , in front of 10 guests or 200, every wedding does three things. "All weddings give thanks for the past, celebrate the present, and honor the future," says Reynolds. "It's an affirmation of who the couple is at this moment in time, as well as who they want to become individually and as a couple. It's both that simple and that profound."

A Definition of Marriage Isn't Necessary

A wedding is not the time and place for the officiant to lecture on the definition of marriage. "No one attends a wedding hoping for insight into the existential meaning of marriage," says Reynolds. "They won't remember what was said five years from now, but they'll remember the tone and how the ceremony made them feel. When done well, guests should leave your ceremony feeling refreshed and ready to celebrate your love."

Centralize the Exchange of Rings

The highlight of the ceremony is the exchange of rings, says Reynolds. "Everything before and after that is the icing on the cake—rituals that add texture," says Reynolds. If you don't have bridesmaids or groomsmen , ask someone who has a meaningful connection to the two of you, such as your parents or your children, to present the rings as a sign of their love and blessing.

Choose Music That Means Something to You

In the same way that you don't want to disrupt the ceremony with excessive or lengthy readings, Reynolds also advises choosing music carefully. "You don't want to turn it into a concert by having someone sing while everyone stares at the couple while listening," he says. Instead of pausing the ceremony for a song, Reynolds suggests using music in the body of the ceremony to accompany some other action, such as a unity ritual or a moment honoring your families.

Don't feel pressured to use traditional music. Brides can walk down the aisle to anything , from Beyoncé to The Beatles. Some couples even use scores from their favorite films. We know one bride whose DJ launched into Katy Perry's "Unconditionally" as soon as the bride and groom were pronounced man and wife—get creative with your ceremony.

Think about the tone you want to set for the ceremony and then choose music that amplifies that tone, whether it be sweet, nostalgic, traditional, or alternative.

Don't Include Things Just to Fill Up Time

Avoid cluttering up your ceremony with "stuff" just for the sake of filling time and space. "Everything you include in your ceremony should be in service of highlighting the two of you and your relationship," says Reynolds.

Consider Including Your Guests in the Ceremony

Instead of a single reader, ask multiple guests to participate by dividing the reading into shorter segments. You could also keep them seated, scattered throughout the rows of guests, to surround your guests with the feeling of community.

Include Unity Rituals

There are many unity ceremony ideas that you can include. It can be as simple as lighting a candle together or binding your hands together with rope. You can also plant a tree together to symbolize the roots you'll grow or pour sand into a vase to represent the blending of your lives. You can incorporate a religious ritual like circling one other, seven times each in accordance with Judaism, to represent the newfound family, protection, and love; or the braiding of the cross, to show that your new lives are intertwined with God and that the new union cannot be broken.

There's one unity ritual, in particular, that Reynolds likes to see included, and that's the wine box ritual . During a wine box ritual, a wine of the couple's choosing is sealed in a commemorative box, along with letters from the bride and groom to each other. Down the road, they'll open the box together and drink the wine, read the letters and remember the special day.

Reynolds suggests taking it one step further: Amplify the emotion of a wine box ritual by asking your parents, your wedding party, or all of your guests to write letters to the two of you to include in the box along with your letters to one another. "I always put this in the context of family, and urge the couple to take the best of the people who love them and use that to create a home that is a safe haven," Reynolds explains. "I remind the couple that when they reopen the box, the love and support of the people they care about will come tumbling out."

Descriptive Essay on Wedding Ceremony

Weddings are fun times with lots of music, dance, parties, and fun activities. They also bring together friends, relatives, and acquaintances. Many weddings are held at night; the area is lined with colorful lights, belts, and other decorative items. People are clamoring for their expensive and luxurious clothes. Those from the groom’s side try to take on special significance.

Marriage is a beautiful social event in our society. It is a way of establishing new bonds between two people and families. Preparations for the wedding begin shortly after completing the negotiations between the two families. The house is being cleaned, and the wedding arrangements are complete.

Orders are placed for decorations and wedding dresses. Arrangements were made for a lavish dinner and a place for the groom’s wedding. Luxury invitation cards are printed and sent to friends and relatives well before the event. Two or three days before the ceremony, the house ladies sing and dance in a circle called the ladies sangeet.

A large tent is set up outside the bride’s house on the wedding day. Those who can afford to buy rent a banquet hall or a farmhouse. It is decorated with colorful lanterns, flowers, and other decorative items. Friends and relatives gathered around the bride and helped her get dressed in her wedding gown and jewellery. Her hands and feet were adorned with henna mehndi.

Friends and relatives gather at the groom’s home and participate in the sehra-bandi ceremony. A pink veil was tied around the bridegroom’s head at the ceremony while he sang religious verses. A beautifully decorated mare or car stands outside her house. You ride a horse or glean in a car with great joy. The ladies sing the bride’s songs.

The wedding procession begins at the bridegroom’s house. It was preceded by a band playing all the latest songs. Bands are all wearing uniforms. A handful of men carrying petromax also accompany the procession.

In some places, portable tube lights, which run on generators, are used. Young friends and relatives of the bridegroom dance to a drum and music beat. Some parades also feature fireworks displays. In rural areas, people are firing their guns into the air.

The procession was welcomed at the bride’s father, brother, and uncle of the bride with great fanfare. Members of the caravan decorated with flowers. The bride’s mother received the bridegroom with a plate of illuminated clay lamps. She also gives gifts to the groom.

The wedding party is escorted inside the tent and set up neatly. They were given drinks. The bridegroom is seated on a lofty throne and is adorned with a throne. Soon the bride arrived. She is wearing her shiny wedding dress. Embarrassed, he climbed onto the platform. When the bride and groom exchange flowers. Everyone claps and is happy. There is a competition between family members for photography with the bride and groom.

The bride leaves her parents’ home. He sits in a decorated car and walks to his new home. Everyone wishes the newlyweds a happy, happy, and prosperous future.

Ladies and gentlemen, when God created Adam at the beginning of all things, He said to Himself in Genesis 2:18, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

It’s not a part of our makeup to be alone. God didn’t design us that way. He made us so that we need to depend on one another. He made us so that we need each other to hold us up, and sometimes carry us through the rough stuff. He made us so that when we triumph, we triumph that much more with each other than we do when we’re alone. In fact, the Apostle Paul spoke about how for most people, marriage is necessary in 1 Corinthians 7. He also gave us a vision of holy love in that same book a few chapters later.

He writes, “Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

Two Souls in the Same Orbit Finally Collide

Kimberly Stokes and Dexter Mason were connected in several ways as adolescents, but didn’t connect until college and, later, an auto event.

Kimberly Lauren Stokes and Dexter Clay Mason did not meet until adulthood, but their paths could have crossed much earlier in life.

Ms. Stokes and Mr. Mason are both from Detroit. Both were members of Jack and Jill of America, a social organization for Black families. Both of their mothers, who happen to be former co-workers, are members of the Links, a nonprofit organization for Black women. And both are members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, known as the Divine Nine, which is composed of historically African-American fraternities and sororities.

Ms. Stokes, 32, is a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority and a doctoral candidate in the counseling psychology program at Wayne State University in Detroit, where she also received a Master of Arts in counseling psychology. She received a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s in elementary education from Howard University.

Mr. Mason, 33, is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and the executive director of Change Collective, a civic leadership development program begun by former President Barack Obama in Washington. Mr. Mason holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, and a master’s in sports industry management from Georgetown University.

And yet, it was not until a rather awkward encounter at Howard’s homecoming in 2013 that the two finally connected face to face. Mr. Mason introduced himself at a tailgate event, but Ms. Stokes was forced to cut their exchange short.

“She was like, ‘I’m so sorry, I have to go,’” Mr. Mason said. Ms. Stokes confirmed that she “had to swiftly leave to find a restroom.”
