About the course
Develop your fiction, nonfiction, poetry and life writing. Gain deep understanding of relevant theories and histories as you learn core skills of creative writing, structuring, and editing. Access Sydney's literary life through a constant calendar of readings, events, and celebrated visitors. If you want to improve your creative writing skills, learn to read like a writer and develop your professional writing practice in a rigorous and supportive workshop environment, this course will suit you. The Master of Creative Writing is a postgraduate coursework degree that focuses on developing your core skills in professional writing, structuring and editing of fiction, non-fiction, poetry and other forms of writing. You will complete core units in the fundamentals of creative writing and research, in addition to elective units from across the University including two workshop selective units. Finally, you will complete a capstone unit where you will undertake a creative dissertation or project.

a bachelor's degree with a minimum credit (65%) average calculated over the whole degree, from the University of Sydney, including a major in a relevant subject area in the humanities or social sciences, or an equivalent qualification; or
completion of the requirements for the embedded Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Creative Writing with a minimum credit (65%) average, or an equivalent qualification.

James Matthew Wilson has published ten books, among them four collections of poems, including The Strangeness of the Good . His poems, essays, and reviews appear regularly in a wide range of magazines and journals.
