Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in an ordinary family of Porbandar, Gujarat. His father's name was Karamchand Gandhi and his mother's name was Putlibai. Mother Putlibai was religious in nature and father Karamchand was a very gentleman and this had a deep impact on Gandhi's personality.

Gandhi said, ‘’There can be no spirit of self government about us, if we take away or allow others to take away from the peasants almost the whole of the results of their labour. Our salvation can only come through the farmer. Neither the lawyers, nor the doctors, nor the rich landlords are going to secure it.''
Gandhi began his Satyagraha in India with campaigns against the landlords in Champaran and Kheda. Later he launched the Non-Cooperation movement, where he called for a campaign of “non-cooperation” with British rule.
In 1930, he announced that he would lead a march to break the law, which gave the state a monopoly in the manufacture and sale of salt. Gandhi led several other movements. He encouraged people to give up foreign goods and wear khadi. Bapu’s philosophy of non-violence and truth are respected even today. They are the key to create a peaceful and harmonious society.
