Resident Evil 4 remake hints that Separate Ways DLC may be nextA datamine makes that hint more than just speculation by Michael McWhertor If you buy something from a Polygon link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement. Resident Evil 4 ’s new remake will get a boost of free content with the addition of The Mercenaries mode on April 7 , but it appears that there will be another adventure coming to Capcom’s modernized survival horror game. A datamine of the game’s PC version indicates that the Separate Ways DLC that Capcom released for earlier versions of Resident Evil 4 may be coming to the remake as well. According to a tweet from Resident Evil Central , members of the Resident Evil Wiki Discord community have dug up a reference to Separate Ways — or rather, The Another Order , as the add-on was known in Japan — in Resident Evil 4 ’s PC files. Separate Ways is an unlockable expansion for Resident Evil 4 that gives players control of Ada Wong on her journey, which frequently intersects with Leon S. Kennedy and Luis Serra during the events of the main campaign. In the original incarnation of Separate Ways , Ada performs actions like ringing the church bell that ends the village’s attack on Leon, as well as preventing Leon’s death at the hands of Jack Krauser and securing the rocket launcher that Leon uses in the game’s final battle. (The original Resident Evil 4 also had a separate playable chapter named “Assignment: Ada,” during which Ada secures plaga samples for Albert Wesker.) [ Warning: The following contains light spoilers for the end of Resident Evil 4 ’s remake.] The Resident Evil 4 remake itself makes a pretty clear allusion to Separate Ways during an endgame conversation between Leon and Ada. It’s not very subtle! Capcom has not announced plans for downloadable content for Resident Evil 4 beyond April’s The Mercenaries update. Still, Capcom has released post-launch story content for the most recent mainline Resident Evil games. 2017’s Resident Evil 7 Biohazard received multiple major add-ons, including the episodes Not A Hero starring Chris Redfield and End of Zoe featuring a playable Joe Baker. Resident Evil Village received story-based DLC Shadows of Rose last year, letting players take on the role of Rose Winters. Separate Ways could serve as a home to more than just fleshing out RE4 ’s story and Ada Wong’s involvement in game events. It could also serve as a home to cut content, like the battle against U-3. While that creature doesn’t appear in the main game, the remake references U-3 in its collectible files. Resident Evil 4 is out now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. If you’re desperate to play as Ada Wong now, there’s a popular PC mod that swaps her model in for Leon’s . It’s no-frills, but it does offer players a chance to gaze upon Ada for the full length of RE4 ’s campaign if, for some inexplicable reason, looking at Leon S. Kennedy just isn’t your bag. Assignment Ada , also known as Ada the Spy in some regions, is a short mission that is unlocked after completing the game once. In this game, Ada Wong must infiltrate the Island Base and recover 5 Plaga Samples. The samples must fit into her small Attache Case along with her Punisher, TMP, and Semi-Auto Rifle, so item management is a must. The game must be beaten in one complete run, as there is no saving. In all versions prior to the Wii version, Ada has no Knife, so the difficulty is even greater. She must fire bullets to break crates and barrels to obtain items so, do not worry about killing every single enemy and proceed to the next area as soon as possible. - 1 Storming the Beach
- 2 Inside the Base
- 3 The Lone Guard
- 4 Chicago Typewriter
Storming the Beach [ edit | edit source ]When infiltrating the beach area, be careful about shooting enemies of edges into the water, or else you may run short on ammo. After all the enemies are dead, collect the items around the area. Climb the ladder at the rear entrance and crawl through the vent duct to get inside the Base. Inside the Base [ edit | edit source ]Once inside check your in-game map. The locations of the Plaga Samples are marked with treasure icons on the map. Find them and kill the enemies guarding them. In the Research Lab, collect the Plaga Sample and then defend yourself from the enemies that lock-down the room. To get out, operate the security console to unlock the door. The Lone Guard [ edit | edit source ]At the Communications Tower you will have to defeat Krauser to obtain the final Plaga Sample. Use your remaining Hand Grenades and the TMP to defeat him. Once he's taken care of ride the lift to the top of the Tower and call a Chopper to pick up Ada. Chicago Typewriter [ edit | edit source ]Completing the mission allows you to purchase the Chicago Typewriter , a Tommy Gun with unlimited ammo, in a completed file of the main game (GameCube) or Separate Ways (all other versions). The gun does come with a high price at 1 million Pesetas to be exact in the main game and 300,000 in Separate Ways. The remake of Resident Evil 4 has been released to an overall positive reception, and the game has also set itself up well for future DLC. As a modernized take on one of the Resident Evil franchise's most beloved classic entries, the Resident Evil 4 remake follows many of the same beats as the original game with a few surprising additions, following in the same vein as previous remakes for Resident Evil 2 and 3 .While Resident Evil 4 's remake is mostly faithful to the original, there are a few notable missing aspects from the 2005 classic. Some set pieces, sections, or boss fights have been shifted around or outright removed in the remake, although usually replaced by new or updated content, and as a whole, the game takes on a somewhat more serious tone (although it still retains much of the original's cheesy dialogue). Perhaps more notably, however, the remake's launch was missing some of the original's extra modes, like Resident Evil 4 's popular The Mercenaries mode, although this is coming to the game as free DLC shortly. Related: Resident Evil 4 Remake Mercenaries DLC - Release Date, Platforms, & Price Resident Evil 4 Remake DLC Is (Probably) On The WayLuckily, however, Resident Evil 4 's remake has positioned itself well for story-related DLC campaigns, in addition to the already-announced free Mercenaries DLC; with Separate Ways DLC being all but confirmed by data-mined files, as reported by Twitter user, @ResiEvilCentral . Other possible DLCs include Operation Javier , a story involving Leon and Krauser originally set in 2009's Wii spinoff Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles , and Assignment: Ada , a short mode taking place on the island section of Resident Evil 4 's main story. Of the three possible additions, however, Separate Ways has the most evidence supporting its eventual addition to the game. Separate Ways Could Be A Second Story Campaign For RE4 RemakeFeaturing Ada Wong as a playable character, the original Separate Ways is a bonus campaign following a storyline that proceeds parallel to the main story, filling in several gaps and showing Ada's role in assisting Leon at several points in the game. With files for Another Order (the original name for the campaign for Japanese releases) having been data mined from the Resident Evil 4 remake, it seems likely that the campaign is currently being developed as DLC, to be released at a later date. In a similar vein to Resident Evil Village 's Shadows of Rose DLC, Separate Ways is likely to offer significantly modified gameplay from the main story. While the Separate Ways campaign still falls within the basic framework of the original Resident Evil 4 's gameplay, it presents some key changes. Compared to Leon in the main story, Ada is slightly faster, has different melee attacks, and a hookshot giving her access to a few different areas. However, reflecting the more contained nature of the campaign, its weapon selection is much more condensed, with the only available guns being a Blacktail pistol and a shotgun. Moreover, although the merchant is present in Separate Ways , the original bonus campaign opts to leave weapon upgrading out, meaning that Ada's arsenal stays at the same strength throughout. With only five chapters, a limited selection of weapons, and the absence of the weapon upgrading system, a Separate Ways DLC for the Resident Evil 4 remake could do with some significant changes - especially if, unlike the original, it will come at additional cost. As a presumably paid DLC instead of a free bonus mode, Separate Ways would be due for some big expansions to its content, fleshing it out into a true parallel campaign to the Resident Evil 4 remake's main story. It remains to be seen what an updated Separate Ways could entail, but longer/more missions, additional weapons, and weapon upgrades could be a good start. Related: Resident Evil 4 Remake: Why You Shouldn't Upgrade Your First Shotgun Operation Javier and Assignment: Ada DLCs Aren't Likely To ReleaseCompared to Separate Ways , however, DLC associated with Operation Javier or Assignment: Ada remains somewhat less likely. With no data mined files to support their eventual release, any evidence supporting them would have to come from the RE4 's remake itself. While vague allusions to Operation Javier have been integrated into the story of the remake, they seem mostly to exist to provide more backstory for Krauser, giving him character motivation he lacked in the original game, and strengthening his connection to Leon. While it can't be written off entirely, much of Operation Javier' s presence in the main game seems to serve as a way to better integrate Krauser as a third-act villain. Moreover, the game that Operation Javier originates from, Darkside Chronicles, might present some challenges of its own in creating a potential Operation Javier DLC. Notably, Darkside Chronicles is a co-op rail shooter for the Wii, meaning that very little of its gameplay would be directly translatable to the gameplay of Resident Evil 4 Remake . With Leon and Krauser's relationship being both more fleshed-out and also somewhat changed in the remake, there isn't much need to further expand on it with an Operation Javier DLC - although it could, in theory, operate similarly to the remake's sections where Leon partners with Luis. Finally, with the very likely release of Separate Ways , an Assignment: Ada DLC may just be redundant, being as it is both non-canon and even smaller in scope than the original RE4 's other bonus modes. If anything, it's more likely that any of Assignment: Ada' s more compelling ideas will simply be folded into a Separate Ways DLC, with the mode's hunt for plagas samples being a potential carryover. As a short bonus mode, offering the first instance of a playable Ada before Separate Way 's inclusion in later releases, Assignment: Ada is unlikely to be re-released as DLC for Resident Evil 4 's remake - especially with Separate Ways all but confirmed. With some DLC for Resident Evil 4 's remake already confirmed, and potentially more on the way, there's plenty of room for the game to expand its content, perhaps even elaborating on its final boss and ending . With The Mercenaries already announced for April 7, one of the original game's most popular bonus modes is already guaranteed to be returning. And, although it has yet to be announced or confirmed by Capcom, data mines make a Separate Ways DLC for Resident Evil 4 's remake almost certain. Source: @ResiEvilCentral/Twitter - Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4 Remake Makes Separate Ways More Than Just PS2 Port FillerYour changes have been saved Email is sent Email has already been sent Please verify your email address. You’ve reached your account maximum for followed topics. My first foray into Resident Evil 4 was on the PS2 . I never touched the GameCube release that Capcom made irrelevant by announcing a port to a better platform before we even got a chance to play it. The exclusivity meant nothing, so for a lot of gamers, the wait for a version on Sony’s beloved second-generation console was more than worth it. I joined the ranks, and remember pinching a copy of the survival horror classic from my brother at the ripe age of 11 before promptly playing it to undeath. Even today, it remains a masterpiece. It gave me nightmares, I still remember thinking about the hostile screeches of the Ganados and rustling winds outside my bedroom window, convinced that something awaited in the woods beyond. For context, I lived in a field in the middle of Wales which could double as the set for the Blair Witch Project, so it couldn’t get much spookier. But every fright was complemented by memorable characters and bombastic action set pieces that still impress, and as a closeted child who would grow up to not only be a girl, but like them too, Ada Wong hit different. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Preview - Shinra’s Sophomore SlumpSquare Enix is delivering a sequel that subverts, surprises, and could go anywhere. The suave secret operative in a flowing red dress kicks ass and takes names, but we weren’t given a chance to play as her until the PS2 port. Even then, both of her smaller campaigns were made up of reworked environments and boss encounters designed around continuous waves of enemies instead of something more compelling. Assignment Ada is the shortest and least memorable of the two additional campaigns, which feels more like a fancy minigame than anything else. Clad in spy attire, Ada is tasked with navigating the island from later on in the main game to acquire a number of Los Plagas samples before delivering them to her employer. The plot is technically non-canon, but words from Wesker in its final scenes do allude to the narrative of Resident Evil 5 in some ways. Assignment Ada is a fairly forgettable slice of action that not many of us talk about today, and I doubt it will surface in remade form like Separate Ways did. If it does, I hope it receives the same prestigious treatment. Separate Ways was a different kettle of fish entirely, and back on the PS2, it aimed to explore the events of Resident Evil 4 from Ada’s perspective. We saved Leon from the evil clutches of Mendez, found the infected who stole his jacket, and embarked on a few other escapades that sought to explore more of her character. Consisting of five chapters and appearances by the likes of Leon, Luis, Krauser, Wesker, and Salazar, it’s a fairly robust mini-campaign which to most, would justify either the first or second purchase of the survival horror classic. Still, it was clearly operating with near identical assets and ideas from the original, so much so that I could see Ada being a skin with little distinction if I broke it all down. The remake goes way harder, weaving Ada’s journey into the events of the main game and giving her a meaningful arc of her own with greater moral duplicity. She is her own character now, building on her appearance in the Resi 2 remake with a willingness to betray her superiors if it means doing the right thing. From early on in the campaign, we witness new interactions between Luis and Ada, along with frequent radio communication with Wesker that paints him as a far more sinister and less comical villain than past depictions. Ada is also infected this time around, battling with what appears to be a constantly evolving spectre that morphs the landscape and acts as a returning boss battle throughout. I’m yet to reach the end, but an omnipresent threat like this makes the mixture of new and returning environments feel that much fresher. You also have weapons not found in the main game, distinct puzzles, and upgrade paths to uncover. It’s not a bonus that Leon’s adventure can live without, but the last piece needed to complete the story. I’d recommend Separate Ways not just to Resident Evil fans after a neat paid bonus, but also newcomers and those who want all the possible context ahead of where Resident Evil goes next. It will no doubt tie in these interpretations of Leon and Ada into either more remakes or entirely new entries that take the canon to incredible places. There’s no way to know just yet, but this mystery only makes such a complementary expansion all the more exciting. Now I can’t wait to finish it before running through it again and again. I can stand behind the idea of making content DLC so long as it's not expensive to the point of being considered extortion like how Activision does it. Capcom if anything have been the upmost respectful in term of DLC content that isn't just cosmetics or just PC gaming in general by even providing a Demo which is extremely rare nowadays.
