OMD’S GUY MARKS NAMED CEO OF OMNICOM MEDIA GROUP EMEA

NEW YORK, Jan. 12, 2022 /PRNewswire/ —  Omnicom Media Group , the media services division of  Omnicom Group Inc.  (NYSE:  OMC ) has named Guy Marks CEO of Omnicom Media Group EMEA.  In his new role, Marks, previously leader of OMD EMEA, will oversee strategy, operations and the development and adoption of transformative capabilities to support Omnicom Media Group (OMG) agencies – including  OMD ,  PHD ,  Hearts & Science , and its  Annalect  data and analytics division – across EMEA.

Marks succeeds Mike Cooper, who is appointed Vice-Chairman, Omnicom Group Europe, reporting to Omnicom President and COO Daryl Simm.

Cooper’s new role follows 25 years as a founding executive of OMG where his leadership roles included CEO of PHD WW and CEO of both EMEA and APAC, where he led the original formation of OMD.  In his new role as Vice-Chairman Europe, he will support Omnicom’s international client strategy.  In addition, he will be actively involved in Omnicom University, Omnicom’s renowned Talent Development Program working with Karen Van Bergen, Dean of Omnicom University.

In terms of Guy Mark’s new role, Omnicom Media Group global CEO Florian Adamski has defined OMG’s mission: to live in service of our markets by enabling transformational product and client service. For the OMG Regional leaders, that means creating and deploying product that equips our agencies to quickly identify, adapt and be responsive in real time to the challenges of a dramatically changing consumer marketplace.

This is a mission for which Marks, whose career began in the digital, mobile and AdTech worlds, is uniquely qualified.  Marks joined OMG in 2014 following Omnicom’s acquisition of a UX, design and tech consultancy service that he co-founded.  Named CEO of OMD EMEA in 2018, his entrepreneurial approach to reinvigorating OMD in the EMEA region propelled it to the top of the global new business leaderboards.  As he steps into his new role, Marks leaves OMD EMEA as the clear leader in the region by multiple measures, including EMEA’s best performing media network, as per RECMA.

“Guy has proven time and again that he knows how to build the teams, capabilities, tools and products that elevate the agency/client relationship from transactional to transformational,” says Adamski.  “Together with his fellow regional OMG CEOs across the globe – Scott Hagedorn in North America, Tony Harradine in APAC, and Julian Porras in LATAM – he will make Omnicom Media Group more agile in bringing best of breed skills, knowledge and technology to our agencies and clients.”

Commenting on his new role, Marks says, “My career to date – whether in the start-up space or as part of the world’s biggest media agency – can be summed up in one word: collaboration. Whether you’re 10 people around a kitchen table, or 10,000 people around the EMEA region, collaboration elevates our thinking and accelerates the pace of change.  As the CEO of Omnicom Media Group EMEA, my priority will be assuring our agencies have the talent, technology and behaviours required to drive collaboration, fuel innovation and deliver better outcomes for our clients.”

Marks, whose appointment is effective immediately, will be headquartered in London, reporting to Adamski.  His successor as leader of OMD EMEA is expected to be named in the coming weeks.

Omnicom Media Group Appoints Guy Marks as EMEA CEO

This article was originally published by Campaign .

Omnicom Media Group (OMG) has appointed OMD’s Guy Marks as chief executive of its EMEA region as the media network splits its EMEA and APAC leadership.

Marks will succeed Mike Cooper, who has been given a new role as vice-chairman of Omnicom Group Europe and will now report to Omnicom president and chief operating officer Daryl Simm.

Marks will oversee regional strategy, operations and the development of “transformative” products and services to support its media agencies – OMD, PHD, Hearts & Science – and its data and analytics division, Annalect.

He joined OMG in 2014 after Omnicom acquired Mobile5 Media, a UX, design and tech consultancy service that he co-founded. He was promoted to OMD EMEA chief executive in 2018 and has led the network to multiple new clients and industry accolades, including Manning Gottlieb OMD cleaning up at last year’s Media Week Awards and capturing the  Agency of the Year crown.

His former colleague and OMD UK chief executive, Tim Pearson, has also secured a new role this week, at LadBible.

Marks’ successor at OMD is expected to be named in the coming weeks.

He will report to Omnicom Media Group global CEO Florian Adamski, who defined OMG’s mission: “to live in service of our markets by enabling transformational product and client service”.

For OMG’s regional leaders, this means creating products that enable its agencies “to quickly identify, adapt and be responsive in real time to the challenges of a dramatically changing consumer marketplace”.

Adamski added: “Guy has proven time and again that he knows how to build the teams, capabilities, tools and products that elevate the agency/client relationship from transactional to transformational.”

Marks added: “My career to date – whether in the start-up space or as part of the world’s biggest media agency – can be summed up in one word: collaboration. Whether you’re 10 people around a kitchen table, or 10,000 people around the EMEA region, collaboration elevates our thinking and accelerates the pace of change.

“As the CEO of Omnicom Media Group EMEA, my priority will be assuring our agencies have the talent, technology and behaviours required to drive collaboration, fuel innovation and deliver better outcomes for our clients.”

Marks is one of four Omnicom Media Group regional leaders, including Scott Hagedorn in North America, Tony Harradine in APAC and Julian Porras in LATAM.

He succeeds the former long-serving PHD global boss Cooper, who has been  Omnicom Media Group’s EMEA and APAC chief since 2019.  Under Cooper’s watch, OMG has won several major global accounts, such as Mercedes-Benz, Diageo and Chanel.

Cooper, a founding executive of OMG, will now support Omnicom’s international client strategy and be involved in Omnicom University, the network’s talent development programme that is led by Karen Van Bergen.

Cooper’s new role follows 25 years as a founding executive of OMG, where his leadership roles included CEO of PHD and OMG CEO of EMEA and APAC, where he led the original formation of OMD.

Guy Marks to take over as CEO of PHD Worldwide

Omnicom Media Group (OMG), the media services division of Omnicom Group, announced  on September 5, 2023 that OMG CEO for EMEA  Guy Marks will succeed Philippa Brown as CEO of PHD Worldwide, effective October 1.

Marks joined OMG in 2014 following Omnicom’s acquisition of Mobile5, the global  UX, design and tech consultancy service that he co-founded.

Florian Adamski

Florian Adamski, global CEO, OMG , said, “Guy is one of our industry’s  most entrepreneurial leaders, with an approach that transformed first OMD’s and subsequently Omnicom Media Group’s offering in EMEA over the past six years. By enabling our agencies to quickly identify, adapt and respond in real time to the challenges of a dramatically changing consumer marketplace, he’s unlocked growth for our clients and made OMG  the #1 media agency group for net new business in the EMEA region  for the year-to-date, according to the most recent COMvergence reporting.”

Adamski added, “The fact that –  at the same time –  he was also one of the network’s key people coordinating Omnicom’s boots-on-the-ground Ukrainian relief and rescue efforts tells you everything you need to know about both his character and his leadership skills.”

Brown, who has served as PHD’s global CEO since 2019, is stepping down following almost four decades in the media industry – including 16 years in leadership positions with OMG – to focus on non-executive advisory roles at both the corporate and advocacy levels, informed an OMG statement.

On Brown’s contribution, Adamski said,  “As CEO,  Philippa’s passion for great work that advanced our clients’ business goals was matched by her dedication to helping young talent advance their career goals.  After leading the agency through the Covid crisis, she brought PHD back stronger than ever, earning Media Network of the Year honors at the 2021 Cannes Festival;  winning Diageo, Chanel, Unilever, and most recently, the $300 million Grupo Bimbo account.  She also launched and oversaw OMG’s  Talent Management Community,  an initiative offering professional development across the entire career life cycle.”

“We are deeply grateful for her tireless leadership,  creative vision, and  unwavering commitment to meeting the needs of her clients and her people,  and we wish her all the best as she redirects her  singular energy, experience, and expertise to an exciting  new chapter in her career,” he added.

In 2022, PHD was ranked #2 globally for net new business gains – behind sister OMG agency OMD – adding $902 billion in incremental billings in 2022, the statement said quoting COMvergence data.

As CEO of OMG EMEA,  Marks helped establish  Omnicom’s Transact connected commerce and retail media consultancy in the region; and co-architected the expansion of OMG’s TRKKN analytics and cloud consultancy from five European countries to 20 markets across APAC, EMEA and North America.

Marks said, “The thread that can be pulled through all my professional experience is driving growth through transformation. As the CEO of PHD – an agency that was  born from a transformative concept of media as a strategic tool –  my priority will be assuring that every PHD account team around the world have the talent, tools,  technology and collective commitment to excellence they need to deliver the  transformative ideas, solutions and service that drive growth for our clients, our agency, and our people.”

Marks’ appointment is effective October 1. He will be based in London, reporting to Adamski.  His successor as leader of OMG EMEA is expected to be named next week.

Mediapost covers phd’s guy marks on stage at cannes lions discussing the three stages of the industry’s ai adaption.

PHD CEO Guy Marks was on the stage at Cannes discussing AI when he suddenly asked the audience, “Remember the year of mobile?” Five to eight years later mobile evolved into the key marketing driver that it is today.

Marks’ point was that the industry should embrace the era of Gen AI far faster than it did mobile.

At the same session Wesley ter Haar, Co-Founder and Co-CEO Content Media.Monks made a similar point, noting that many other industries are innovating more quickly in the AI space than the ad-marketing sector. “We need to get in the game faster,” he said.

AI, he added, will help “fulfill the original promise of digital,” of personalized marketing at scale. “It just hasn’t happened.”

Marks noted recent agency research conducted with 700 global marketers which found about 42% of whom said they had “advanced” knowledge of AI. But when tested only 14% scored as high as 2 on a scale of 1 to 5. That must change, he noted, because human input will always be critical to optimizing the use of AI tools as they become more advanced.

PHD sees three phases the industry will pass through on its AI adaption journey over the next 6 years including “experimentation,” the current stage, followed by “acceleration” and finally “elevation.”

There is still a lot of hype surrounding the ramifications of AI, said Marks.

L’Oreal is a believer that AI has great potential to dramatically enhance the company’s marketing efforts, said Asmita Dubey, the company’s Chief Digital Marketing Officer and member of the executive committee.

She told the same audience that the global beauty marketer has assembled a Gen AI task force to define the technology’s potential and assess its impact. The task force is developing best practices for upskilling its work force and putting guardrails in place, like making sure the technology is not used to alter the physical features of models and others used in its marketing messages.

The company has also formed an AI “Beauty Lab” designed as a place to experiment with content creation and production techniques, customer care, media applications and other areas.

The company is also developing an application called the “Beauty Genius,” which Dubey described as a “personal AI beauty assistant,” that “will help consumers make better choices.” It will soon be deployed in the U.S., she said.

Like the others speaking at the session, Dubey said the company believes that AI is a valuable tool that will drive content innovation, efficiency and effectiveness. It will also help assess value creation and ROI and put a spotlight on challenges.
