Essay 3 (600 Words) – Effects of Rainy Day

Rainy Day is loved by the children and elders and it seems to make their life a little less boring even if it is for only a day. As the drops of water fall on earth so do the creatures become swell with life and joy. In this essay we will go through the effects of a rainy day on rural and urban life, its advantages and also the inconveniences caused.

Effects of Rainy Day

Be it village life or urban life; rainy day affects each one of them in its own way. We go briefly on how the rainy day affects the life of a common villager and a city dweller.

  • On Village Life

Usual days in villages look a bit sleepy than the cities. That’s because, the main occupation of villagers is agriculture, so you don’t have people rushing out to reach offices on time, as in the cities. There are only farmers tending to their fields and a bunch of students headed for their school. If rain occurs, it doesn’t affect everyone much in a village; though it might delay them a little.

Farmers can easily wait for the rain to subside without fearing for any loss; unless the rain is too much to damage their crops. Also, the village residents seem to take a rainy day as usual activity. The children also don’t seem to fear to get wet and enjoy the shower. Unlike the children in the cities, the village children could be easily spotted playing in rain and enjoying the rainy day.

  • On Urban Life

The effects of a rainy day, as felt in urban settlements, are completely different from that of the villages. People here get delayed to their offices and businesses by a good amount of time. In cities time means money; therefore; quite a few city dwellers don’t like a rainy day much. The office goers and the shopkeepers don’t welcome an out of season rainy day, because it means a long delay or loss for them.

Also, the cities having poor infrastructure planning may face water clogging, causing further inconvenience to the people. Also, the essential emergency services get delayed due to water clogging and traffic jams. But, despite the complaints, the people still seem to admire and love the rainy day for the sheer beauty of nature that it reveals.

Advantages of a Rainy Day

The following are the advantages of a rainy day as felt by different sections of the society as well as nature and other living creatures.

  • It replenishes the soil and provides nourishment to the plants.
  • Refills the natural water reserves as well as the groundwater.
  • Provides a much-welcomed respite from the heat for the humans and animals as well.
  • Children get a day off from school and to play in rain.
  • A rainy day is also welcomed by the farmers as it waters their vegetation and replenishes the soil.
  • It provides an opportunity to conserve water through rainwater harvesting.
  • Refills the ponds deep inside natural forests, which is very important for the wildlife.
  • Even a day’s rain could help grow new plants and vegetation.
  • Acts as a natural cleansing agent by washing off dust and dirt from the surface of the earth as well as the air.
  • Gives relief from the heat and make the weather more pleasing.
  • It becomes more easy and enjoyable to work on a rainy day than in sweltering heat.

Rainy day is loved by children as well as elders from all walks of society. Though it causes a little discomfort on several fronts, people still seem to a rainy day.

An Essay on My Experience on a Rainy Day [PDF]

Hello readers! I hope you are good, today we came with an interesting essay named My experience on a Rainy Day. So let’s dive into the essay!

rainy day experience essay feature image

Whether you admit it or not, the weather influences a person’s day. Warm and sunny days tend to go rather well and for some reason, a person does not have as many problems take place when the sun is out brightening up the landscape.

On the other hand, when it clouds over and the rain begins to fall problems seem to fall with the raindrops making it a very bad day for everyone. Then those days seem to get especially bad for me.

While I like to see the rainfall, it provides us with drinking water, and gives us a break from the heat, for some reason my worst days are when it rains. Nothing seems to go right and I experience some humbling events that just make it hard to be grateful that I am alive.

Take for example when it rained last week. I had some important assignments to turn in that accounted for half my grade. As soon as I saw the rain start to fall I knew I was in trouble. I wanted to stay home and ride the storm out there but that day was my deadline so I had to go outside.

I carefully packed my assignments in a waterproof folder and then put the folder in my water-resistant case. As I walked to school, I stopped briefly to get a chocolate bar and a newspaper at the local newsstand.

Unknown to me, I did not lock my case up correctly and picked it up upside down. And wouldn’t you know it, there was a large muddy puddle sitting right where my folder landed.

The folder may have been waterproof but the clasp was not and there was a little gap between it and the folder which let in some of that muddy water. Fortunately, I was able to rescue the folder before too much water got inside.

When I opened up the folder to look at the damage, some of the rain started to hit my pages and make them even wetter. It turns out my umbrella was not positioned right so the rain had free access.

Too fr from home, I could not turn back and print out another copy. Oh, I could but I would be late for class and our professor tortures latecomers and no one wanted to be late. The best I could do was dry the pages off and hurry on to class.

If it were not for bad luck, I would have no luck at all on rainy days. Just as I had everything secured again and dried off, a car came by and hit that muddy puddle with its tire.

It goes without saying that I was within the target range and got the full brunt of the muddy wave the car sent towards the sidewalk. The papers may have stayed dried, thanks to the folder and the case, but now I was soaked, muddy and running out of time.

I did not dwell on the situation but steeled my mind and ran for class. The good news is that I was not that far away from the building that held my classroom if I was lucky, yea right, I would have no further incidents and could make it to class on time.

I must say that I was actually having a streak of good luck for a change as I was able to avoid puddles and cars spraying up the water for the rest of the trip. Of course, I did not see that big puddle at the entrance to the college and my feet got a good bath.

With most of the risks now out of my way, it seemed that I would make it to the classroom before my professor arrived. And when I got into the classroom I felt my failure. He had already been there and left a message for the latecomer like me, on that big whiteboard, where it was clearly declared that the class got dismissed.

How was the essay on My Experience on a Rainy Day, I hope you like it if so do comment below your thoughts and let me know.

Essay on Storm

Students are often asked to write an essay on Storm in their schools and colleges. And if you’re also looking for the same, we have created 100-word, 250-word, and 500-word essays on the topic.

Let’s take a look…

100 Words Essay on Storm

Introduction.

Storms are natural events that happen when the atmosphere becomes disturbed. They are characterized by strong winds, heavy rain, thunder, and lightning.

Types of Storms

There are various types of storms such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and blizzards. Each type is unique in its formation and impact.

Storm Formation

Storms form when warm, moist air rises into the cold atmosphere. This creates clouds, and when the conditions are right, a storm occurs.

Impact of Storms

While storms can cause damage, they also bring needed rain to plants and help to cool down the Earth.

Despite their destructive power, storms are an important part of our planet’s weather system.

250 Words Essay on Storm

Storms, a natural phenomenon characterized by significant disruptions in atmospheric conditions, are a fascinating subject of study. They are formed when a system of low pressure develops with a system of high pressure surrounding it. This combination of opposing forces can create winds and result in the formation of storm clouds, such as cumulonimbus.

The Science Behind Storms

The formation of storms involves a complex interplay of physical factors. The process begins with the sun heating the Earth’s surface, causing the air above to warm and rise, creating an area of low pressure below. Cooler air then rushes in to fill the void, but as it warms, it too rises. This cycle results in the formation of clouds and, under the right conditions, a storm. The severity of the storm is determined by the temperature and moisture differences between the two air masses.

There are various types of storms, including thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hurricanes. Thunderstorms are the most common, typically resulting from convection in cumulonimbus clouds. Tornadoes, on the other hand, are formed from supercell thunderstorms, where changes in wind speed and direction create a spinning effect. Hurricanes, the most destructive of storms, form over warm ocean waters near the equator.

Storms can have a profound impact on both the environment and human societies. They can cause significant damage to infrastructure, disrupt ecosystems, and even result in loss of life. However, they also play a crucial role in distributing heat and moisture around the Earth, contributing to the planet’s overall climate equilibrium.

In conclusion, storms, while potentially destructive, are a crucial part of Earth’s climatic system. Understanding their formation and impact is not only fascinating but also vital in mitigating their potential harm and utilizing their benefits.

500 Words Essay on Storm

Storms, a natural phenomenon, are a powerful manifestation of nature’s might. They are characterized by high-speed winds, often accompanied by precipitation, and can cause significant damage. However, they also play a crucial role in the earth’s climatic system, redistributing heat and moisture across the globe. This essay explores the science behind storms, their impact on humanity, and our response to these forces of nature.

The Science of Storms

A storm is essentially a disturbance in the atmosphere. They occur due to differential heating of the Earth’s surface, leading to the formation of low-pressure systems. As warm, moist air rises, it cools and condenses to form clouds. The release of latent heat during condensation fuels the storm, causing the air to rise further and creating a self-sustaining system.

Storms can take various forms, such as thunderstorms, cyclones, tornadoes, and blizzards, each with unique characteristics. Thunderstorms, for instance, are short-lived but intense, featuring heavy rainfall, thunder, and lightning. Cyclones, on the other hand, are large-scale systems lasting several days, marked by strong winds spiraling inward towards a calm center or ‘eye’.

Impact on Humanity

Storms have a profound impact on human lives and activities. On the negative side, they can cause widespread destruction—damaging infrastructure, disrupting communication and transportation systems, and even leading to loss of life. The economic cost of storms can be staggering, running into billions of dollars annually.

However, storms also have positive aspects. They help redistribute heat from the tropics to the poles, maintaining the Earth’s overall climate balance. Rainstorms replenish water supplies and are vital for agriculture in many regions. Moreover, the awe-inspiring spectacle of storms has cultural and artistic significance, often serving as a metaphor for human emotions and experiences in literature and the arts.

Human Response to Storms

Humanity’s response to storms is a blend of resilience, adaptation, and scientific advancement. Over centuries, communities have developed coping strategies, from building storm-resistant structures to creating early warning systems.

Modern technology has significantly enhanced our ability to predict and respond to storms. Meteorological satellites provide real-time data on storm formation and progression, enabling accurate forecasts. Advances in construction technology have led to the development of buildings capable of withstanding severe storms.

Yet, despite our advancements, storms continue to pose a significant challenge, particularly in the context of climate change. Scientists predict that global warming could lead to more intense and frequent storms, necessitating further research and preparedness.

Storms, while destructive, are an integral part of our planet’s atmospheric system. Understanding them is not only fascinating from a scientific perspective but also crucial for mitigating their impact. As we continue to grapple with the reality of a changing climate, our relationship with storms is likely to become even more complex and significant. Through continued research and technological advancements, we can hope to better predict, prepare for, and respond to these awe-inspiring phenomena.

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

During such moments, the world appears to decelerate, as though collectively pausing to appreciate the gentle caress of rain. The air carries the earthy aroma of damp soil, a scent that awakens the senses and invokes a nostalgic feeling.

As raindrops descend from the sky, they engage in a captivating dance on every surface they touch. The external landscape transforms into a watercolour masterpiece, with shades of green intensifying and the streets mirroring the gleaming lights like a canvas of fluid art. It’s a day that encourages contemplation, prompting individuals to halt and acknowledge the simple beauty often overlooked in the rush of daily life.

Rainy days possess a distinctive ability to bring people closer. The soft drumming of rain becomes a unifying backdrop, fostering a sense of closeness and connection. Whether gathering indoors with loved ones or sharing shelter beneath a common umbrella, rainy days promote the creation of bonds. There’s a magical quality in exchanging stories, savouring hot beverages, and listening to the rain outdoors, crafting a cosy ambiance that warms both body and soul.

Nevertheless, not everyone perceives rainy days with the same appreciation. For some, they may signify melancholy or gloom, hindering outdoor plans or causing discomfort. Yet, even within such sentiments, there exists a particular beauty in embracing the unpredictable nature of life. Rainy days teach us to find joy in the unexpected, to revel in the rain rather than merely endure it.

From a pragmatic standpoint, rainy days offer relief to the parched earth, replenishing water sources and nourishing vegetation. Farmers welcome the rain as a boon for their crops, and ecosystems thrive with the renewal of water bodies. It serves as a reminder of the delicate equilibrium in the natural world and the interconnectedness of all living entities.

Essay on “My Experience of a Storm” Complete Essay for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation and other classes.

My Experience of a Storm

Outline: First sign of an impending storm – the fury of the storm – the unfortunate fishermen – the aftermath of the storm.

Monsoons in our country are generally heralded by cyclones or storms. It happened to be a day early in the month of June. There was peculiar stillness in the air; not a leaf stirred, not whiff of wind blew. It looked like calm before the storm. Unmindful of these foreboding signs, my friend and I set out for a long walk along the beach.

We had done about half an hour’s walk, when we noticed far off in the sky a speck of black cloud which became denser and denser, and soon the sky was overcast, rendering the atmosphere gloomy and dismal. Just as we decided to turn back homewards we were greeted by a cool, soft breeze, which within few minutes turned into a strong gale. It blew restlessly harder and harder so that we could hardly stand against it. Hurriedly we took shelter in a solitary but close by.

Hardly had we got into the empty abode when down came the rain with all its fury, accompanied by peals of thunder and flashes of lightning. The thunder-claps were so deafeningly loud and the flashes across so terrifically bright that we were almost frightened to death.

For over an hour we were held up, and during that time the storm raged, causing much havoc. Huge waves rolled on the sea and the hapless fishermen who went out to sea to cast nets were caught in the storm. We watched the unfortunate men clinging to their battered boats as they were tossed up and down the high seas. Brave men they were! They successfully weathered the storm after an hour’s terrible ordeal.

When the storm abated and finally calm set in, one could see the destruction it had caused. Trees were uprooted, roofs were blown off, and lashing angry waves caused a deep breach in the wall that protected the fisher folks’ dwellings, inundating the whole locality.

Never did we witness a more horrible scene than this. We thanked God for our safety and secretly prayed that another dreadful experience like this should not befall us.

Difficult Words: Herald – proclaim the approach of. foreboding -feelings that some evil is about to happen. havoc – widely spread waste or destruction. hapless – unfortunate. battered – damaged. weathered – held out stoutly against. abated – lessened, subsided. inundating – flooding.

Through dense and black clouds above the Arabian Sea, the approach of the rainy season over Kerala is easily predicted. Kerala has its monsoon season beginning in the first week of June. Additionally, the groundwater reserve rises as it settles down. For the remaining of the year, this freshwater deposit is used as a source of drinking water and also for irrigation.

Long and Short Essay on Drought in English

Drought Essay – 1 (200 words)

Drought which is marked by the absence of or low rain in a particular region for a long period of time occurs because of various reasons including global warming, deforestation and many other human activities. This climatic condition can cause disastrous impact on the environment as well as the living beings. Some of the effects of drought include failure of crops, financial loss, price rise and soil degradation.

Several Indian states have been hit by drought leading to mass destruction of crops and disruption of the normal functioning of the society. Many parts have even witnessed famine leading to the death of several people due to starvation. Looking at the adversities faced by people in such areas, the government of India has come up with various drought relief plans however a lot more needs to be done to control this problem and deal with its after effects.

Some of the solutions suggested in this direction are rainwater harvesting, recycling and reuse of water, controlling deforestation, sea water desalination, cloud seeding, growing more plants and trees, stopping overall waste of water. However, most of these cannot be achieved if the general public does not support the cause. Each one should thus take it as a responsibility to contribute his/ her bit to curb the problem.

Drought Essay – 2 (300 words)

Drought, which results in the shortage of water, is mainly caused due to lack of rainfall. The situation is problematic and can prove to be fatal for those living in the drought-affected areas. It is particularly a curse for the farmers as it destroys their crops. Continuous drought-like situation also leads to the soil becoming less fertile.

Causes of Drought

There are various factors that lead to drought. Here is a look at these causes in detail:

  • Deforestation

Deforestation is said to be one of the main causes of shortage of rainfall that leads to drought. Adequate amount of trees and vegetation is required on land to limit evaporation of water, store enough water on land and attract rainfall. Deforestation and construction of concrete buildings in their place has caused a major misbalance in the environment. It lowers the capacity of the soil to hold water and increases evaporation. Both these are a cause of low rainfall.

  • Low Surface Water Flow

Rivers and lakes are the main sources of surface water in various regions around the world. In extreme summers or because of usage of surface water for various human activities, the water in these sources dries down leading to drought.

  • Global Warming

The negative impact of global warming on the environment is known to all. Among other issues, the emission of greenhouse gases that results in the rise in earth’s temperature has resulted in the rise in evaporation. High temperature is also a cause of wildfires that worsens the drought-condition.

Apart from these, excessive irrigation is also one of the causes of drought as it drains the surface water.

Though the causes of drought are largely known and are mostly the result of misuse of water resources and other non-environmental friendly human activities, nothing much is being done to curb this problem. It is time the governments of various countries should join hands to overcome this global issue.

Drought Essay – 3 (400 words)

Drought occurs when a region receives no or less than the average amount of rainfall leading to water shortage, failure of crops and disruption of normal activities. Various factors such as global warming, deforestation and construction of buildings have given rise to drought.

Types of Droughts

While some areas are marked by complete absence of rain for a long period of time, others receive less than the average amount of precipitation, yet others might face drought for some part of the year – So the severity and type of drought varies from place to place and from time to time. Here is a look at the different types of droughts:

  • Meteorological Drought

When there is a reduction in rainfall in a region for a particular period – it can be for few days, months, seasons or year – it is said to be hit by meteorological drought. In India an area is said to be hit by meteorological drought when the annual rainfall is 75% less than the average rainfall.

  • Hydrological Drought

This is basically associated with the reduction in water. Hydrological droughts are often a result of two successive meteorological droughts. These are divided into two categories:

  • Surface Water Drought
  • Ground Water Drought
  • Soil Moisture Drought

As the name suggests, this situation involves inadequate soil moisture that hinders crop growth. This is an outcome of meteorological drought as it leads to lower water supply to soil and greater water loss due to evaporation.

  • Agricultural Drought

When the meteorological or hydrological droughts lead to negative impacts on the crop yield in a region, it is said to be hit by agricultural drought.

This is said to be the most severe drought situation. People in such regions do not get any access to food and there is mass starvation and devastation. The government needs to intervene in such a situation and food is supplied to these places from other places.

  • Socio-Economic Drought

This situation occurs when there is a decrease in the availability of food and loss of income due to the failure of crop and the social security and access to food for the people in such areas is at risk.

Drought is a difficult situation to deal with especially if the severity is high. Several people are affected due to drought each year. While the occurrence of drought is a natural phenomenon, we can certainly reduce the human activities that lead to such a situation. Government must also come up with effective measures to deal with its after effects.

Drought Essay – 4 (500 words)

Drought, a condition that occurs due to no or very low rainfall, has been classified into different categories including meteorological drought, famine, socio-economic drought, hydrological drought and agricultural drought. Whatever be the type of drought, it disturbs the normal functioning of the regions affected.

Impacts of Drought

The regions hit by drought take a good amount of time to recover from the disaster caused, particularly if the severity of the drought is high. Drought disrupts the day-to-day lives of the people and has a widespread impact on various sectors. Here is how this natural disaster impacts the lives of the people living in the affected region:

  • Agricultural Loss

A major impact occurs on the agriculture and other related sectors as these are directly dependent on the ground and surface water. Loss of crop yields, low rate of livestock production, rise in plant disease and wind erosion are some of the major impacts of drought.

  • Financial Loss for Farmers

Farmers are worst effected by drought. The crops in the drought hit areas do not yield and the farmers whose sole income is generated through farming are worst affected by this situation. In an attempt to make their ends meet, many farmers end up in debt. The cases of farmer suicides due to such situation are also common.

  • Wildlife at Risk

The cases of forest fires increase during droughts and this puts the wildlife population at high risk. Forests get burnt down and many wild animals end up losing life while others lose their shelter.

The prices of various cereals, fruits, vegetables rise because of low supply and high demand. The prices of food items such as jams, sauces and drinks that are produced from those particular fruits and vegetables also increase. In certain cases, goods are imported from other places to meet the demands of the people and hence the prices levied on the same are high. The retailers who offer goods and services to the farmers also face financial loss due to reduced business.

  • Degradation of Soil

The soil loses moisture due to continuous drought and its quality degrades. It takes a lot of time for some areas to regain the ability to yield crops.

  • Overall Impact on Environment

Damage is caused to various species of plants and animals, there is degradation of landscape quality and biodiversity is impacted. The quality of air and water is also affected due to drought. While some of these conditions are temporary others may last long and might even turn permanent.

  • Public Safety at Stake

Lack of food and increased prices of different commodities may give rise to crimes such as theft and this can put public safety at stake. Conflict may also occur between water users thereby causing tension among general public.

Drought Prone Countries

Some of the countries that are more prone to drought include Albania, Afghanistan, Armenia, Bahrain, Northeast parts of Brazil, Burma, Cuba, Morocco, Iran, China, Bangladesh, Botswana, Sudan, Uganda, Somalia, Eritrea and Ethiopia.

Drought is one of the most disastrous natural calamities. Famine, that is the most severe forms of drought, ends in major socio, economic and environmental loss for the regions affected.

Drought Essay – 5 (600 words)

Drought, a condition when certain regions are faced with scarcity of water due to low or no rainfall, has been the cause of several problems in India. There are many areas in the country that are hit by drought each year while others are faced with this condition occasionally. Drought is caused due to various factors such as deforestation, global warming and inadequate surface water and has severe impact on the lives of the people living in the affected areas as well as the general health of the environment.

Drought Prone Areas in India

Many regions in the country are hit by drought each year. Statistics reveal that approximately one-sixth of the total geographical area of the country that inhabits around 12% of the population is drought prone.

One of the most drought prone states in the country is Rajasthan. As many as eleven districts in this state are hit by drought. These regions receive scanty or no rainfall and have low level of ground water. Drought is also a common phenomenon in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Almost every district here is hit by drought each year.

Here is a look at some of the other regions in the country that face frequent drought:

  • Saurashtra and Kutch, Gujarat
  • Coimbatore in Kerala
  • Mirzapur Plateau and Palamu, Uttar Pradesh
  • Kalahandi, Orissa
  • Purulia, West Bengal
  • Tirunelveli District, South of Vaigai River, Tamil Nadu

Possible Solutions for Drought

  • Rain Water Harvesting

This is the technique of collecting and storing rainwater in tanks and natural reservoirs to use it later. Rain water harvesting must be made mandatory for all. The idea behind this is to put the available water to use.

  • Sea Water Desalination

Sea water desalination must be done so that the vast amount of water stored in the sea can be used for the purpose of irrigation and other agricultural activities. The government must make major investment in this direction.

  • Recycle Water

Waste water must be purified and recycled for reuse. This can be done in many ways. Small steps such as installing rain barrel, collecting the waste water from RO systems, usage of shower buckets, saving water from washing veggies and creating rain garden can help in this direction. The water collected by these means can be used to water the plants.

  • Cloud Seeding

Cloud seeding is done to modify weather. It is a way to increase the amount of precipitation. Potassium iodide, silver iodide and dry ice are some of the chemicals used for the purpose of cloud seeding. The government should invest in cloud seeding to avoid drought in the areas prone to this condition.

  • Plant More Trees

Deforestation and the building of concrete structures is one of the causes of scanty rainfall. Efforts must be made to plant more trees. This simple step can change the climatic conditions and also bring about other positive changes in the environment.

  • Water Usage

Each one should take it as a responsibility to stop the wastage of water so that there is availability of enough water even when during times of low rainfall. Government must take steps to keep a check on the usage of water.

  • Campaigns must be Run

The government must run campaigns stating the benefits of rain water harvesting, planting more trees and other measures that the general public can take to fight drought. This is a good way to spread awareness and control the problem.

Though the government has put certain drought relief plans in place however these are not enough to overcome the drastic problem of drought. It is important to take strong steps to avoid this problem. Everyone should contribute their bit to control this problem.
