School Life is the best time of our life as we make new friends, learn new things and build our career there. School time is the only time which we enjoy most, and when we enter college, we always miss our school life. School life teaches us lots of new things and prepares us to face all the challenges of life. I love my school life and really enjoy it. I have lots of friends, and all my teachers love me. I love my school and enjoy going there every day to meet my friends and learn new things. 

Everyone keeps on saying that school life is the best time of your life. When listening to these phrases from their elders, the school students think about what is good about this life. All we do in the entire day is to attend the classes and to do the homework. But once school life gets over, the students realise that school life was the best time of their life.

Apart from learning great things in school, you make new friends, play different sports and create memories for the rest of your life. The students also learn many life skills like teamwork, good manners, etc., and understand what they want to become in their life.

About My School and School Life

I study in the reputed private school in my city, and I am glad to be a student of this school. My school is one of the most renowned schools in my town. It is very beautiful and huge. My school has all the facilities for sports, study and other activities. Built-in a three-storey building, it is a Co-Ed and Senior Secondary School having Science, Arts and Commerce stream. The atmosphere at my school is delightful. We have a huge playing ground where we all students play different games like Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, etc. We have a separate Basketball and Tennis court, as well as a small and beautiful garden for kids.

The students practice these sports every day. The school also has a big swimming pool and sports area for indoor games. In this area, the students can play Table Tennis and Chess. There is also a big skating rink. Different physical training teachers train us for all these sports. These sports not only keep us fit but also increase our stamina and coordination.

School life is not just limited to studies and sports. There are also other activity rooms such as the music room, art room, and dance room. The Art room is a big hall with lots of colourful charts and various types of paints. The students can portray their imagination and can create beautiful art here. Dance and music are also very important in school life as they help the students express themselves in a new manner. The different movements in dance help the students in unwinding themselves.

My school has a big library where we all read different kinds of books, novels and comics. Apart from the library, my school has well-equipped scientific labs where we all practise various experiments of Chemistry, Physics and Biology. I have learned a lot of things in these labs. My school also has a big computer lab with trained technical staff that help us to learn everything about computers. I love playing on the computer and learning new things in the computer lab. In the computer lab, the students learn about using MS Word and PowerPoint. The computer lab is also called the ICT lab. The ICT teacher teaches the students about the internet and how to use it safely.

All the staff at my school are very polite, educated and experienced. Our teachers not only teach us but also prepare us for various competitions, and every year, my school wins many prizes in various competitions. I have even represented my school in a hockey championship and scored the second position.

The classrooms are big and decorated beautifully with different artwork done by the students. Various projects and models are kept in the classroom for the students to keep on revising their concepts. The teachers use smartboards, and every day a new word is taught to enhance the students’ vocabulary. Every day one student presents the ‘Thought for the Day’. These positive thoughts keep us motivated.

All the teachers at my school are very dedicated and punctual. They always teach us discipline and ask us to come to school on time. Our teachers love us, and they teach us in a very simple and easy way. Whenever we fail to understand anything, they try to make us understand it again without shouting at us. They give equal attention to all the students, and that is why my school has an excellent academic record. 

The teachers are well qualified. They use different techniques to teach us the concepts. The atmosphere in the school is fun-filled and fruitful at the same time. The school’s entire staff, from the security guard to the teachers, is very helpful and polite.

We learn many life skills also in school. Discipline, hard work, and punctuality are some of them. During sports classes, we learn teamwork and work together to win.

The best part of my school is its auditorium where all the school events and competitions take place. Our school auditorium is one of the best auditoriums in the town with a great sound and light facility. It is fully air-conditioned with lots of seats. Every year, my school organises an annual cultural festival which lasts for two days. Many cultural events take place within these two days like singing, dancing, debate competition, etc. I love to participate in a poem writing competition every year, and many times I have won prizes as well. Every year, the toppers of our school get awarded on this annual cultural day and we all students love to participate in various events of the annual cultural day.

We also have school assemblies in our Auditorium. Sometimes the students from other schools come and participate in the different competitions organised in our schools. These events are called inter-school competitions. These events are very good as we get to learn new things from other students and make many new friends.

Apart from the annual cultural day, my school is famous for organising one of the biggest annual sports meets. I love this annual sports meet because sports are my favourite. In this annual sports meet, various sports competitions are organised, and almost 50 schools participate in these competitions and win multiple titles. Me, my friends, and our seniors also participate in these competitions and make our school proud by winning in them. My school has great teachers, excellent faculty and all the facilities that one student needs to excel in his/her life.

The biggest reason behind the success and fame of my school is our Principal Sir. He is 50 years old, yet very active and disciplined. He has an attractive personality, and his knowledge is commendable. He loves all the students and always spare some time from his busy schedule to monitor the progress of all the students. I admire his personality and principles. He always encourages us to take part in various extracurricular activities, and it is the result of his support & dedication that the students of my school always perform better in all the competitions. We all are fortunate to have him as our Principal.

Principal sir awards the students who participate and win in different cultural and sports events. He has a good memory and remembers the name of every child. The students feel proud when Principal sir calls them by their names.

After each term, assessments are also being conducted in the school. The teachers prepare us for these assessments, and the results are also shared with the parents. The assessment is a good system as students understand the learning gaps and can work on them. The teachers are very helpful as they assist the students wherever it is required.

I love my school and my school life. Every day I learn new things here and enjoy it with my friends. All my teachers love me and always support me. I have learned discipline and punctuality from my teachers, and it will help me a lot in my future. I am proud to be a student at this school, and I will always miss my school after leaving it. My school life has taught me many things and given me some best friends who will be my friends forever. I wish all the success to my school and love everything about my school life. 

The different experiences which the students get in school life help them to become better human beings. When they leave school, they are not just taking the memories with them, but they take many friends, a career and good manners for life. It is the first place where the students come out of their family circles and create a new one with their teachers and friends. 

One should also remember that everyone is not privileged enough to get an education. If one gets this opportunity, then be grateful and work towards being a better human being. Cherish your school life and stay motivated.

I thought this was a good collection of essays on a variety of topics from introspection to marriage, covering so many topics, that while personal in content can have lessons taken from to grow yourself. I didn’t read this all in one go, I read a few essays a day and I’d say that that was the right way to read it. This is a book that needs to be absorbed in small quantities - and would actually make a really good journalling prompt. Each essay made me think quite a lot about the contents and if I was someone who journaled then I would certainly have enjoyed making use of the collection for some further introspection. I looked forward to taking some time out of my day to read this and would love to read the other school of life books now that i’ve had a taste.

This essay discusses your normative commitments. It is a first person discourse, a discussion of what you think, believe, and feel about what makes for a life worth living.

The summative assessment for this module is a single essay of up to 1,000 words outlining your personal vision of a life worth living in dialogue with at least two of the traditions studied in the module. The aim of this essay is for you to outline the normative ideas and commitments that are central to your current vision of a flourishing life in conversation with aspects of the traditions across history that we have explored in this module.

This essay discusses your normative commitments. It is a first person discourse, a discussion of what you think, believe, and feel about what makes for a life worth living. This essay is not just a description of the historical context from where a tradition came from—though it should include some material to that effect. Neither is it merely a description of key ideas from a tradition, though it should definitely include discussion of those ideas as well. It is not even only a critical analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of a tradition, or why it might be found satisfactory or unsatisfactory by someone, though this sort of analysis will be not merely relevant, but certainly part of an accomplished essay. You should not simply explain what you think are the limitations of Nietzsche’s ideas, for instance explaining why his attitude to moral metamorphosis is a product of its historical circumstances and not entirely adequate to yours. You could however, outline how the idea of the eternal return has helped clarify your own position, offering your critique of its content and then discussing why you have adopted a different approach in your vision of a flourishing life.

This is an academic essay, so it will require you to engage with primary and secondary literature and to reference it appropriately. The aim is for you to locate your ideas in the longue durée of discussion on the topic. Where your ideas resemble traditions we have studied—even if they have not derived directly from them—indicate those connections, citing specific texts that highlight them. Where your ideas constitute a refutation of important views we have studied, make this clear too. And, if you have chosen to adopt part of one of the traditions covered this term, explain why and point to the socio-historical context, primary texts, and secondary source discussions of both that have been instrumental in you reaching this conclusion.

The essay should also indicate your capability to apply the various analytical concepts we will develop in the module. Recall these guiding questions:

  • To whom or what are we responsible for living our lives a certain way?
  • What is a human being and what is their place in the world?
  • What does it mean for life: a) to feel good (affective), b) to go well (circumstantial), c) to be led well (agential)?
  • What should we do when we fail to live a good life?

The best essays will not only be able to articulate the personal vision, and to locate it within the longue durée , but also to employ these analytical questions and critical concepts to define their content.

Our school life is always the best time of our lives. Furthermore, it is the only time where I can meet my friends. My School time is the only time which I enjoy a lot. I get to play many games. Also, I get to study my favorite subject. Above all, I get to play with my group of friends and spend a good time with them.

Essay on My School Life

My School is the second-largest school in the entire city. Furthermore, it is among the most renowned institutions of the state. It has two very large fields. We call it the front and the backfield. On the front, we play sports like football and hockey because of its’ soft ground. However, the back is to play cricket . This is because it has a pitch on it and the ground was hard.

Moreover, my school also has a basketball court where students practice almost every day. My favorite is the swimming pool which is quite big. So I never miss any swimming periods whenever I have any. Further my school has two halls. One is the new gymnasium and the other is the old one. The students play sports badminton and table tennis in it. Also if we have any literary function, it always takes place in the new gymnasium.

My School Events

Every year in October we have a Literary and Cultural Festival. In this, students from different schools come to participate. Furthermore, it was a three-day function. This first day is of Western music , in this, the students sing western songs. Various bands from different schools participate in this. The second day is of Hindi music, in which we get to listen to some of the most beautiful voices.

The third day is the choreography. This is the best day of all three. Some, my friends, are really great dancers, so they always perform on this day. Moreover, we get to see some of the best dance acts on the day. These are the most memorable and enjoyable days of the entire school year.

Furthermore, at the end of every year, we have a P.T. Display. In this, the students from every batch have to perform an act. To perform this act our teachers start teaching us one month before the event. We all enjoy a lot during these days as we didn’t have to study for the first three periods. Moreover, on the day of the event, various competitions also take place. I always take part in an inter-house relay because I am good at it.

At last, before the farewell, there is a concert held. In this, we perform for our senior and the retired staff to wish them goodbye. It is a mixed concert in which we could perform any act. Whether it be singing, dancing or drama , everything is welcomed in this.

I have always admired my seniors because some of them had great achievements during their School life . And staying with them for so many years has enlisted an attachment. Furthermore, I have seen them spending their last days in college. And it was truly heartbreaking on wishing them goodbye.

A1. The best thing about school life is that we don’t have any burden on our shoulders. All we have to do is eat, sleep, and, study.

Much to the consternation of sophisticated people, a great deal of popular enthusiasm is directed at works of culture that are distinctly cheerful (songs about hope, films about couples that work through their problems); and in the visual arts, cheerful, pleasant scenes (meadows in spring, the shade of trees on hot summer days, pastoral landscapes, smiling children). The bestselling postcard of art in France turns out to be a reproduction of Poppies by Claude Monet.

Sophisticated people tend to scorn. They are afraid that such enthusiasms might be evidence of a failure to acknowledge or understand the wilful dimensions of the world. But there is another way to interpret this taste: that it doesn't arise from unfamiliarity with suffering, but from an all too close and pervasive involvement with it - from which we are impelled occasionally to seek relief if we are not to fall into despair and self-disgust. Far from naivety, it is precisely the background of suffering that lends an intensity and dignity to our engagement with hopeful cultural works.

Renoir's idyllic picture of friends having a picnic together in the shade on a sunny day isn't imagining a fantasy world in which people magically never have troubles or sorrows. They may have boring jobs or tricky partners; they may have long hours of loneliness. It's just that, all the same, they can truly enjoy this opportunity of pleasant friendship in a lovely place. Renoir isn't being sentimental. He's not implying that life as a whole is a picnic. He's portraying a much truer and more helpful idea of which we often need reminding; that despite the manifest failings of life and the world it is still possible for us to experience true pleasure. Which leads to the odd conclusion: if (by some strange chance) normal life were to become consistently delightful we would no longer need sweetly charming, hope-inducing works of art.

One of the less discussed powers of art is that, from time to time, it can bring tears to our eyes. It's normal to think that what makes people cry are sad things; that's certainly the way it works when you're a child. But the older we get, the more we start to notice an odd phenomenon: we start crying not when things are horrible (we toughen up a little), but when they are suddenly and unexpectedly precisely the opposite: when they are unusually sweet, tender, joyful, innocent or kind. This, far more than grimness, is what can increasingly prompt tears.

In reality we rarely have the problem of being naively contented with our lives, or with the world in general. On the contrary, we are remorselessly confronted by our own failing and by the radical imperfections of society. Rather than needing a stern dose of disenchantment, we're more likely to require art-tools that can feed and sustain our beleaguered optimism.

Commentary | Colin Fleming: Adults can also embrace a ‘back to school’ attitude

Most of us eventually leave school behind, but I have long believed that the adult who lives life best starts a form of school again and again, and the early days of a fresh new school year for children can be a perfect reminder. 

Recently, I was paid a visit here in Boston by my two nieces, ages 4 and 8, and my nephew, who is 10, from Chicago. We did various Boston activities — Freedom Trail! — and we had chats. Like about the upcoming school year. 

Neither of the two older kids were pleased with the teachers they’d been assigned. They were said to not be fun. Foreboding reputations preceded each of them. 

“Children,” I said, doing my best to make myself sound like some wise man on a hill and also keep things light, “none of us will ever get anywhere with attitudes like these. Let me tell you about a ‘mean’ teacher I had,” at which point I told them about Ms. Ferris. 

She was my third grade teacher. In first grade, I was a model citizen — dare I say, a paragon of behavior. There was a boy in my class from straitened circumstances. Our teacher would give him money out of her own pocket so that he could have something to eat. I’d be assigned to walk with him to the cafe across the street. These were different times. But my point is, I was trusted. 

Come the next year, you’d think I was Marlon Brando in “ The Wild One .” Problem child. My teacher was Ms. Pucci. Everyone raved about her. Best pedagogue in the land. 

Every day, though, I was in trouble. No recess for me. I didn’t know what I was doing wrong. I thought I was the same kid. I asked Ms. Pucci what I could do better. She answered, “Colin, you give me cold pricklies, and I want warm fuzzies.” 

Ugh. This lady. What are you going to do? 

I got through that year and then learned that my teacher for third grade was to be the dreaded Ms. Ferris, who was talked about like she was the Wicked Witch of the West. I half-expected her to be a tint of green. Happiness went to die in Ms. Ferris’ class. I figured, OK, at least she’s not Pucci. I’ll take my chances. 

That was my attitude going in. Ms. Ferris was spoken about like she was 108, but she was probably 34. She had us write stories. She encouraged our imaginations. I wrote. And wrote. And wrote some more. Every day I wrote a story. 

And each morning I’d share it with Ms. Ferris. Sometimes I wouldn’t even go out for recess, and I was a sporty kid. I’d stay inside, and we’d talk about writing and books. One day, Ms. Ferris said to me, “You have an imagination that other people don’t. It’s a gift. Let it take you places.” 

She wasn’t just the best teacher I ever had; she was one of the most important people who has ever been in my life. She helped introduce me, to me. 

My niece and nephew, both agog, swore to enter the school year with open minds. Because you don’t know until you know. Often, we think we know before we do, and then we never know at all. 

So while the days of a crisp apple in your lunch bag and the smell of freshly sharpened pencils may be behind you, they’re also in front of you in a different manner. We’re always free to have the right attitude that allows us to learn. It’s funny that we think that’s a kid thing. Just as it’s ironic that we must grow up and continue to grow by being, at least in part, our own teachers. 

I think about Ms. Ferris often as I commit myself to learning things that I didn’t know the day before. The classroom abounds. It’s not solely something in a building or back in your past. ‘Tis the season to be reminded of what it can do for you. Don’t rob yourself of what that means. 

The bus awaits, children. And for you adults as well.

S oaring up from Kazan's main pedestrian thoroughfare, its brick-red façade flanked by peddlers hawking Chinese souvenirs, stands the bell-tower of the Church of the Epiphany, one of a handful of Russian Orthodox churches in this mostly Muslim city, the capital of the Russian republic of Tatarstan.

On a recent Sunday in March, the three spires of the tower each have a fresh blanket of snow covering their domes. Russian Orthodox faithful will soon assemble for the day's services - the times posted on the inside door of the church, or perhaps in their kitchens, because the bells of the Church of the Epiphany are not allowed to ring to summon the people to prayer.

In fact, the bells aren't even there. They have been forbidden by the Tatarstan government.

Russian church bells are an integral part of the vast liturgical canon of Russian Orthodoxy. Their sonorous clangs not only serve as a call to prayer but also mark certain parts of the service. Not melodious in their chimes like their Catholic or Protestant siblings but rung by their bronze tongues to create a steady rhythmic pealing, Russian bells provide the musical motif that accompanies a parish's feasts and its funerals.

The bells are so important to the faith that they were the first religious objects destroyed by the Soviet regime when it overtook all of Russia almost 70 years ago. The Soviets did not want any public expressions of faith - no matter what denomination.

Since the fall of Communism, Russian Orthodox parishes across the former Soviet Union have slowly been regaining their churches and bell-towers, as religious freedom replaces religious persecution. But in Kazan, while priests and deacons have been successful in having their churches returned, the bell towers remain a source of controversy.

"The authorities simply don't want churches in the center of the city," said Oleg Sokolov, the bespectacled and bearded archpriest of the Church of the Epiphany, which was closed in 1935 and reopened in 1996, after a five-year fight to have the authorities even recognize the parish's authority. "Even more so, they don't want bell ringing in the city. The culture minister himself has said there will be no bell-ringing in Kazan."

In Sokolov's opinion, the Tatar government is refusing to grant the Church of the Epiphany their bell-tower out of simple ill-will.

"They are minimizing the public expression of Orthodoxy," said Sokolov. "And not only of Orthodox churches but also the Russian spirit of this place."

The Tatar government points to Kazan's Peter and Paul Orthodox Cathedral, its bell tower just a few blocks away from the city's Kremlin, as an example of their willingness to allow Russian Orthodox churches in the city, if not in the city center. The center "does not need yet another church, there are already so many," a spokesperson from the Tatarstan ministry of culture told Keston News Service, a former religious freedom watchdog.

The bell-tower at Church of the Epiphany is now home to a museum in honor of Fyodor Shalyapin, a famous Kazan singer, who was baptized in the church. But despite pleas from the parish to move the museum, letters from Tatarstan's culture ministry repeatedly deny that the tower should belong to the church.

"A museum will serve more people than a bell tower," reads one letter.

"A museum can be elsewhere," retorted Sokolov. "In the Orthodox tradition, nothing other than a church can be in a church."

And in the Orthodox tradition, nothing can substitute for the ringing of the bells - not even the tapes of bells that Sokolov sometimes plays on a tape deck from his office, broadcasting to the community through speakers on the blue roof of the church.

"The electrical replica is not very good because Russians are used to tradition," said Sokolov. "People have a hard time accepting innovation. The service is not really complete without the real thing."

"They don't like it," said Sokolov of the Tatarstan government's reaction to the electronic bells, "but they can't ban it." The real thing - the ringing of up to 10 bells to call a parish to prayer, announce the arrival of a bishop, sound the time and perform dozens of other church functions, religious and secular - also requires a bell-ringer.

While at the Church of the Epiphany in Kazan, Sokolov is the de-facto bell ringer by virtue of the tape-deck in his office, in Moscow, and in hundreds of other Russian cities, hundreds of young men and women are resurrecting the art of bell-ringing.

"The art of bell ringing, to a great extent, had been lost during the 70 years of Soviet power," said Victor Sharikov, the director of the Moscow Bell Center, one of Moscow's two institutions that train professional bell ringers. "There were no old bell ringers around to pass on the art."

Housed in a specially built belfry in the Church of St. Nicolas Zayaitsky, a lettuce green cathedral on the banks of the Moscow River, the Bell Center opened in 1995, with the goal of training professional bell-ringers.

Prior to the opening of the Center, most bell ringers learned their art as apprentices to other bell ringers, if they learned any technique at all.

Viktor Andropov, 23, a student from Kiev, Ukraine, learned how to ring the bells in his church from the parish priest when he was 12 years old. Every Sunday and most feast days since, he has climbed his church's bell fry to sound the call. On a recent visit to Moscow, he stopped by the Bell Center hoping to learn some tips, with the goal of eventually opening his own school.

Every three months, the Bell Center accepts 25 students for basic training in the history, theory and practice of bell ringing. Prior musical experience is not necessary - just a willingness to serve one's church. Candidates for training must be endorsed by their church, however, although the parishes rarely cover the cost of attending the school - 2100 roubles for 3 months.

"It is more important to us that a person has a sense of rhythm than a perfect ear," said Sharikov, who is a former air and space engineer.

"It is the structure of the sound that you have to learn," said Igor Gnadevich, one of nine bell ringers at Moscow's Christ the Savior Cathedral. Gnadevich embraced Russian Orthodoxy in 1983 and entered Christ the Savior's bell ringer training program in the early 1990s. He left his job as an engineer to serve his church. The lanky and bearded Muscovite, who walks with a slight hunch, has the privilege of ringing the Cathedral's biggest bell - 30 tons of bronze - over the days of Lent, some of the most holy days in the Russian Orthodox faith. Gnadevich, like most of his bell ringing brethren, views his post in the belfry as much more than a job.

"It is a time for prayer and contemplation," said Gnadevich. "It is a religious experience."

While Gnadevich is a full time bell ringer, most are volunteers who get paid nothing at all for their time in the bell fry. They ring out of a sense of religious obligation, a desire to serve and be part of their church.

"I want to give people all around heavenly energy," said Andropov. "I want to make them feel a connection with heaven and with god."

Sokolov remains hopeful that the bells will be returned in time for Kazan's millennial celebrations in 2005, In the meantime, for the Russian Orthodox faithful of Kazan, their musical connection with God will continue to come via Sony.
