Ph.D. in Economics - Jamia Millia Islamia University (JMI), New Delhi

A Ph.D. in economics will prepare you to be an economist in research. However, many economics graduates go on to work on Wall Street or create public policy. Very few economics Ph.D. programs would admit that this is not the primary purpose of the degree. If you are unsure of the purpose of a Ph.D. program, you may end up unhappy. In addition, a Ph.D. in economics may not be the most rewarding career for you.

In addition to the high salary, there are many advantages to pursuing a Ph.D. in economics. A Ph.D. in economics offers relative freedom, meaning you will be able to set your own schedule and do most of the work yourself. With a Ph.D. in an economics program, you will enjoy a comfortable glide path to the upper-middle class, which is not uncommon. You can make a difference in the world and the economy by becoming an economist.

Eligibility: 

Candidates who want to take admission in Ph.D. must have a post-graduate degree in Economics with at least 55% marks from a recognized university and must have passed the national level entrance examination or university level entrance examination. National level entrance exams like UGC NET / UGC CSIR NET / GATE / SLET or University entrance exams consist of written tests and personal interviews.

Selection Process:

Admission to all the above-mentioned courses will be done on the basis of the candidate’s performance in the JMI entrance test conducted by the institute, followed by an interview. 

For teaching of Commerce, applicant must have a Master's Degree in Commerce with at least 50% marks.

The candidate must have passed at least two teaching subjects up to graduation/post-graduation.

The following candidates are NOT eligible:

• Candidates with Bachelor's Degree in vocational subjects.
• Candidates with B.A. degree in one language only
• Candidates with M.Sc. degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Environmental Science/Botany. Such candidates can apply on the basis of their Bachelor's Degree, if applicable.

JMI offers full-time B.Tech and B.Arch. courses for the duration of four and five years in various disciplines. Candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with at least 55% marks in aggregate. 

JMI also offers B.Sc and B.Sc. (Hons) in a variety of disciplines. Candidates must qualify the eligibility criteria to be considered for admission. Admission will be granted on the basis of JMI Entrance Test.

The university also offers to BE in Evening and B.Arch in Self-Financed mode. Candidates seeking admission BE (Evening) must have passed 10+2 (PCM) with 50% marks in aggregate. Diploma in Engineering is also offered by JMI in both Regular and Self-Financed modes.

Selection to B.tech and B.Arch. courses is based on the rank/marks scored by the candidate in JEE Main . Applicants seeking admission to B.Tech. courses must appear in JEE (Main) Paper 1 examination. For admission to B.Arch. courses applicant must appear in JEE (Main) Paper 2 examination.

• The test consists of Paper – 1 (for B.Tech.) and Paper – 2 (for B.Arch.)
• Both papers are of 3 hours.
• They will consist of 30 MCQ's each.
• 4 marks will be awarded for every correct answer.
• A deduction of 1 mark will be done for each incorrect answer.
• The allotment of seats will be according to JMI's Admission Procedure. The reservation of seats and merit will be solely based on rank obtained in JEE (Main). 
• 10+2 or equivalent exam's Marksheet
• Age proof (High School/Senior Secondary School's Marksheet)
• Proof of entitlement to any reserved category (if applicable)
• Character Certificate from the last attended institute
• Certificate from M.B.B.S. doctor/Govt. Hospital certifying blood group
• In case of gap period, a certificate from class –1 gazetted officer to certify no indulgence in criminal behavior
• Proof of address along with name and location of the nearest police station
• Fees for the first year can be paid by cash, online, or demand draft.

The selection is based on the rank/marks scored by the candidate in an Entrance Test conducted by JMI (for B.P.T and B.Sc.) and NEET (for B.D.S.)

The lists of provisionally selected candidates as well as of those on the waiting list, for admission, will be displayed on the JMI website .

• The list of candidates selected for interview shall be displayed in ascending order of their Entrance Test Roll No on the official website of JMI.
• They will be given a date to appear for the admission formalities on the official website.
• The allotment of seats will be according to JMI's Admission Procedure.
• The selected candidates are to bring their admit cards of the entrance test, along with originals and self-attested copies of the documents.

The results of CUET 2024 has been declared on July 28, 2024. And the cutoff for the Jamia Milia Islamia will be released soon in the month of August. Candidates looking for admission to the JMI based on the CUET marks must have updated information about the admission procedure.

JMI will soon be going to release the UG admission based on CUET 2024 marks. The admission notification will be released soon. The most expected date for the start of the counselling is August 2024. Jamia Millia Islamia offers Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D. degree) in faculties of social science, natural science and humanities and languages. The Entrance Test will be a screening test for applicants in order to determine their suitability for admission to Ph. D. program of the concerned Department/Faculty/Center. Qualifying the Entrance Test will in no way entitle the candidate to any right to admission in Ph.D. programme. Eligibility for JMI PhD Program:- A candidate for admission to the Program for Degree of Doctor of Philosophy must have obtained at least a Second Class Masters Degree with not less than 55% of marks of a University or a Degree recognized by the University as its equivalent in the subject in which the candidate wishes to pursue a course of research or in a subject allied thereto. Procedure of Selection:- Admission is done through Entrance Test The medium of Entrance Test shall be English, except in case of the language departments, which may set the question paper in the language concerned. The Entrance Test shall be based on two sets of question papers comprising of Sections A and B. Section A: This section will test aspirant's teaching and research aptitude, reasoning, comprehension, language, writing and analytical skills, and knowledge of contemporary issues relevant to research and higher education. Section B: Section B will be devoted to be devoted to the advanced knowledge of the subject concerned and that of the specialization under the subject concerned. The following category of candidates shall be exempted from appearing in the Entrance Test for the Ph. D. program : (i) Candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR (JRF) Examination/SLET/GATE or have successfully completed M. Phil. Program from a recognized university/ institution (ii) The teacher fellowship holders, provided that the competent employing authority issues a No Objection Certificate to the candidate to join the Ph.
