Review the FAQs below for more information about the online DS-260 form.

What do I need to complete and submit forms online?

Immigrant Visa applicants must have:

  • Internet access
  • Your NVC Case Number (refer to the message you received from NVC)
  • Your Invoice I.D. number (refer to the message you received from NVC)

Diversity Visa applicants must have:

  • Your diversity visa case number (refer to your selection notification on the  https://dvprogram.state.gov/ )
  • The principal applicant’s date of birth

Where can I find the DS-260?

You can access the DS-260 from the Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC) website, by going to Immigrant Visas.state.gov and clicking on “Submit Visa Application and Civil Documents,” or on the website of the U.S. embassy or consulate where you will apply.

Can I answer in my native language?

No. All answers, except as specially provided,  must be in English, using English characters only . Applications submitted in any language other than English may be rejected, and you will be required to log back into the Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC) and provide English answers.

Are all fields on the DS-260 mandatory?

Most fields on the DS-260 are mandatory. You may leave fields marked “Optional” blank. Some fields may also give you the option to select “Does Not Apply.” If a field does not apply to you, you may mark the box next to “Does Not Apply.” All other fields must be completed: the application  will not  allow you to submit a form with any mandatory fields left blank. In this instance, an error message will be displayed and you will be required to complete the field before continuing with the application. If you do not answer questions that apply, your form may be rejected.

What happens if I need to step away in the middle of data entry?

You may save your partially completed DS-260 at any time by clicking on the "Save" button at the bottom of every page. If you need to step away, simply click the "Save" button to save your progress, and click on "Sign Out" in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. All data that you entered up to the point of clicking on "Save" will be stored until you are ready to continue completing the form.

To ensure your privacy if you step away in the middle of data entry, the DS-260 has a “time out” feature. If your DS-260 application is idle for approximately 20 minutes, CEAC will log you off. All data that you entered up to the last time you clicked "Save" will be stored until you are ready to continue completing the form. Any data that you entered after clicking "Save" will be lost.

How do I access a previously saved DS-260?

You can access your saved application by returning to the  Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC)  website and selecting View/Edit from the IV and Alien Registration section of the Immigrant Visa – Summary Information screen. You will then be provided with a list of all applicants in your case along with the status of each application (NOT STARTED, INCOMPLETE, or SUBMITTED). To continue updating an incomplete application, simply click on the "Edit" button to the right of the application’s status.

Once you submit your application, by clicking the “Sign and Submit Application” button on the "Sign and Submit" page, you will be unable to access your application again without the assistance of NVC for immigrant visas, KCC for Diversity Visas, or the U.S. Embassy or Consulate at which you plan to apply.

Do I bring my DS-260 application with me to the interview?

You should  not  bring your application with you to your interview. The interviewing officer will have full access to review your application online.

A group of 69,000 teacher aspirants from reserved categories staged a protest outside the residence of Minister Anupriya Patel, demanding their appointment letters. The protesters insisted on meeting the minister to present their three key demands: compliance with the High Court's order, the release of a new merit list for appointments, and the removal of those responsible for the previous list.

The protest, which has been ongoing for some time, took a serious turn when a young woman among the protesters fell ill inside the residence of Minister Ashish Patel. The woman was taken inside the residence for medical attention as her condition worsened.

According to the information, Ashish and Anupriya are currently not at their residence; they are in Prayagraj. They will meet with the candidates upon their return. The protesters are determined to continue their demonstration until their demands are met, intensifying the pressure on the government to act.

Tuesday morning, candidates from the reserved category also surrounded the Apna Dal (S) party office. The candidates are sitting in protest in front of the minister's house, demanding the implementation of the decision given by the double bench of the Lucknow High Court. Hundreds of candidates have gathered here, continuously raising slogans. A heavy police force has also been deployed at the site during the protest.

Amrendra Patel, leading the protest, said that the recruitment process began in 2018. When the results were announced, a significant injustice was done to the reserved category candidates, and they were deprived of jobs. After a long struggle and judicial process, on August 13, 2024, the double bench of the Lucknow High Court ruled in favor of the reserved category candidates, ordering the government to appoint them following the rules.

However, the government is procrastinating on this matter. We demand that the government resolve this issue promptly and release a schedule indicating when the appointments for us affected candidates will be made.

Blog The Education Hub

https://educationhub.blog.gov.uk/2024/09/02/how-to-claim-15-hours-free-childcare-code/

Hundreds of thousands of parents can now access 15 hours free childcare for 9-month-olds – how to apply

application letter for teaching appointment

Hundreds of thousands of eligible working parents can now access 15 hours government-funded early education for children aged 9-months-old and older after new rules kicked in from 1 September 2024.

Those who are eligible to take advantage of the scheme this term should have already received their code and secured a childcare place.

Also, from today, eligible working parents who plan to take up a funded place from January 2025 can now apply for a code. If they’re starting a new job or returning from parental leave this may affect when they’re eligible - more information on this below.

It's worth noting that some providers may charge for extra services, such as providing lunch and nappies, or optional extras such as trips, in addition to the government funded childcare . Visit  childcarechoices.gov.uk  for further information.

When can I apply and how do I get my code?

Applications are open for eligible working parents whose children will be aged at least 9-months-old on or before 31 December 2024.

This can be combined with the universal 15 hours to make 30 hours childcare when your child turns 3 or 4.

When you apply, you’ll receive a code to give to your childcare provider.

It’s important to remember that  codes need to be renewed every three months . To do this, you’ll need to remember to login to your childcare account to check when your reconfirmation dates are, so that you can renew your code on time. If you don’t renew it on time, you will need to reapply.

You can claim your place the term after your child turns the relevant age. This gives local authorities and childcare providers enough time to prepare.

There is no limit on the number of codes available. However, if you’re applying for childcare to start in January 2025, we recommend that you reach out to your preferred provider  as soon as possible  to check when they will need your code.

We know that it may be difficult at this stage to secure your first-place provider. If you are struggling to find a place you should contact your local authority, who will be able to help source a local provider offering the entitlements.

How do I apply?

You apply online here on  gov.uk  once you have checked our  eligibility criteria .

You’ll need to make sure you have the following information to hand before starting the application:

  • your national insurance number (or unique taxpayer reference if you are self-employed)
  • the date you started or are due to start work
  • details of any government support or benefits you receive
  • the UK birth certificate reference number (if you have one) for your child.

You may find out if you’re eligible straight away, but it can take up to 7 days.

Once your application has been approved, you’ll get a code to give to your childcare provider.

Eligible parents are also able to access tax-free childcare through the same application system. You can apply for tax-free childcare at any time.

However, you don't need to apply for tax-free childcare to be eligible to apply for the 15 hours childcare scheme.

Can I apply for government-funded childcare if I’m on parental leave?

Yes, you can.

If you’re applying for childcare for an older child, who is not the reason for your parental leave, you can continue to apply in the usual way.

For parents applying for funded childcare for the child who is the reason for your parental leave, you can apply for a childcare code at the same time as everyone else as long as you plan to return to work from parental leave or start a new job by the end of January 2024.

Parents on parental leave will need to apply online. They may be told their application is ‘pending’ if it is more than 31 days before they return to work, but they will still receive a letter in the post within 1 to 2 weeks so they can access their childcare entitlement.

Parents starting new work before 31 January can call HMRC on 0300 123 4097 to receive a code.

What if I’m on parental leave and returning to work after 1 February 2025?

Parents who plan to start or return to work on or before 31 January 2025 can apply for a code from 1 September 2024 to use from 1 January 2025.

For parents starting or returning to work on or after 1 February 2025, the following dates will apply:

1 October 2024 to 31 January 2025 1 September 2024 to 31 December 2025 1 January 2025
1 February 2025 to 30 April 2025 1 January 2025 to 31 March 2025 1 April 2025
1 May 2025 to 30 September 2025 1 April 2025 to 31 August 2025 1 September 2025

For the purposes of accessing the entitlement, taking annual leave after the end of your parental leave counts as having returned to work.

It is important to remember that if you are applying for childcare for an older child who is not the reason for your parental leave, you can apply regardless of your return-to-work date.

What happens once I receive my code?

Once you receive your code, you’ll need to take it to your childcare provider, along with your National Insurance number and your child’s date of birth.

Your childcare provider will process the code to provide your place.

Your local authority can provide support for finding a government-funded place in your area. You can find out who your local authority is  here .

If I receive a code in a letter from HMRC, does this make my code on my Childcare Account invalid?

No. Both codes will be valid.

If you have two codes, one from your letter beginning with 11 and one from the website beginning with 50, please give your provider the code from the website, as this is the permanent digital code for your child.

If you only have one code (beginning with 11) then you can use this code to start using your government-funded hours.

Please remember that once your reconfirmation window opens, you will still need to reconfirm your eligibility through your Childcare Account and share the digital code you receive with your provider.

Do I need to wait for my reconfirmation window to add another child to my account?

A parent who is already using the childcare service for another child can add a new child to their account at any time.

Your reconfirmation cycle for your current Tax-Free Childcare won’t affect this.

What happens if I’m using an entitlement for my 2-year-old when they become 3?

Parents are able to access the universal 15 hours childcare support from the term after the child’s third birthday through to when they start school.

If your child is accessing the 15 hours entitlement for 2-year-olds and you remain eligible, your child will automatically be moved onto 30 hours (universal 15 hours + 15 hours for working parents) from the term after your child turns 3.

You will just need to keep reconfirming your code as normal, and it will become usable to claim 30 hours.

You should also speak to your provider to let them know you intend to take up 30 hours.

If you are accessing disadvantaged entitlement childcare for, you will also able to access the universal entitlement from the term after your child turns 3.

Appointment Letter for a Teacher [Format & Sample]

An appointment letter outlines the terms and conditions of employment, encompassing salary, benefits, and commencement date. It functions as a binding contract between the candidate and the organization, confirming the candidate’s employment. As such, an appointment letter for a teacher formalizes hiring and safeguards the interests of both the educational institution and the educator.

If you are hiring a teacher, creating an appointment letter becomes a crucial step in the hiring process. In this blog, we will explore how to write an appointment letter for a teacher, facilitating a smooth transition into the new role.

Table of Contents

Appointment Letter Format for Teacher

A well-structured appointment letter comprises the essential terms of employment, ensuring a clear understanding of the responsibilities and benefits offered to the candidate. Here are some crucial elements to include while writing an appointment letter for a teacher:

1. Job Position Details

Providing precise details about the teaching position helps avoid confusion and ensures that the teacher’s qualifications and experience match your needs. This approach minimizes misunderstandings and promotes a seamless transition into the role. The following details are essential to include:

  • Clearly define the teaching position being offered (e.g., Grade 5 Math Teacher).
  • Specify the subject area(s) the teacher will be responsible for (if applicable).
  • Clarify the grade level(s) the teacher will be working with.

Post job Banner

2. Employment Commencement and Office Timings

This section familiarizes candidates with the work schedule and promotes adherence to the institute’s timings. Moreover, it lays down the information about the reporting structure, informing the candidate who they will report to. This information facilitates effective communication.

3. Compensation Details

A competitive compensation package, along with clear details on benefits, helps attract and retain highly qualified teachers. Here’s what this section should encompass:

  • Outlining the annual or monthly base salary offered to the teacher and compensation breakup including HRA, tax deduction, allowances, and other components.
  • Specifying the pay schedule, indicating the frequency of paycheck distribution (e.g., bi-weekly, monthly).
  • Provide examples of bonuses such as quarterly performance-based raises.

4. Additional Incentives

Bonuses can serve as powerful motivators for teachers, encouraging high performance. When outlining this section, ensure to do the following:

  • Highlight any signing bonus provided upon accepting the position.
  • Briefly describe performance-based bonuses linked to the achievement of specific goals.
  • Mention any unique incentives such as festival bonuses, referral bonuses, or company stocks.

5. Employee Benefits (if any)

A comprehensive employee benefits package allows you to retain employees and ensure a positive work-life balance. While creating this section, ensure that you include the following details.

  • Outline the PTO policy, including the amount of paid time off for teachers and how it can be used.
  • Indicate the availability of a retirement savings plan and any employer contributions offered.
  • Mention any unique employee benefits such as maternity/paternity leaves and mental health leaves.

6. Terms and Conditions of Appointment

A probationary period is vital for evaluating the teacher’s performance and suitability for the role. Additionally, this section mentions the privacy policies to ensure transparency and protect teachers’ data. To avoid ambiguity and safeguard both parties in case of unforeseen circumstances, termination conditions should also be outlined. Key details to address in this section include:

  • Define the initial probation period, a specific amount of time (typically 3-6 months) during which the teacher’s performance will be evaluated.
  • Refer to the Institute’s privacy policy, outlining how teachers’ personal information will be handled.
  • Provide a concise overview of grounds for termination of employment by either party, including notice period and termination clauses.

7. Essential Documents for Onboarding

When onboarding a teacher, it is essential to verify their educational qualifications and conduct a background check. This solidifies their achievements and provides an idea of the teacher’s working style. To ensure a smooth onboarding and employment journey, ask for essential documents. In this section, you can mention the following details:

  • Specify the documents teachers need to submit before their start date, such as proof of identification (e.g., passport, driver’s license).
  • Request educational credentials that confirm the teacher’s qualifications for the position (e.g., teaching certifications, transcripts).
  • Include a background check authorization form, if applicable.

8. Closing Remarks

Close the appointment letter by expressing enthusiasm about welcoming the new teacher to the team, conveying a sense of positivity and excitement. Provide contact information for the designated human resources representative, allowing the teacher to reach out with any questions or concerns they may have. Also, request the teacher to sign and return a copy of the letter, indicating their acceptance of the outlined terms.

Applying for teaching positions can be daunting because of all of the materials you need to submit. Your cover letter is an especially important part of the application since it highlights your best skills. Writing an excellent cover letter can set you apart from other applicants, so it’s important to take your time and write a targeted letter for every application. Start by researching the position and getting all of the necessary information before you start writing. Then, use the intro and body paragraphs to emphasize your qualifications for the job. Conclude your letter by emphasizing your interest in the position and requesting an interview, and don’t forget to revise and proofread before you send your letter to the prospective employer.

Application Letter Template

Gathering Information Before Writing

Step 1 Read the job posting carefully and underline or highlight key terms.

  • For example, if the position is for a Kindergarten teacher, then the position may indicate that you need to have undergone a preparatory teaching program.
  • If the job posting is online, you can transfer the text into a word processor and highlight using the highlight tool.

Step 2 Find out the name of the hiring manager.

  • Make sure to find out the person’s preferred prefix. For example, if the hiring manager is a woman named Nancy Cardigan, ask if she goes by Ms., Mrs., or something else.

Warning : Never write “To whom it may concern” to start a cover letter! This is too informal and it makes your letter seem generic from the start.

Step 3 Research the school, district, and position.

  • The school’s student population
  • Special challenges facing the school, such as budgetary issues or overcrowding
  • Extracurricular programs available to students

Step 4 Identify 3 experiences or skills that qualify you for the position.

  • For example, if you’re applying for a Spanish teacher position, you might want to mention your study abroad experience that enhanced your Spanish speaking skills, or your additional certification as a TESOL teacher.

Writing the Introduction and Body Paragraphs

Step 1 Include your address and the date followed by 3 spaces.

  • For example, you might list your address as “100 Main Street, Everytown, ND, 12345.”
  • Then, after adding a space, list today’s date in long form, such as August 8th, 2019.

Step 2 Provide the full name and address of the hiring manager.

  • For example, “Mrs. Sherri Mascarpone, Executive Director of Personnel, Sacramento School District, 1000 Johnson Lane, Sacramento, CA, 12345.”

Step 3 Greet the person with a formal salutation.

  • For example, you might start with “Dear Mr. Rodgers,” and then add a space and begin your introduction.

Step 4 Indicate the job you’re applying for and why you’d be a good fit.

  • For example, you might open with something like, “I’m writing to apply for the Math Teacher position that was advertised in this week’s paper.”
  • It’s also a good idea to give the employer some indication of who you are, such as by mentioning where you attended school and when you graduated or expect to graduate. For example, you might follow your first sentence with something like, “As a recent graduate of Universal University’s teacher education program, I am well-qualified for the position.” [6] X Research source

Step 5 End the first paragraph with 3 reasons you're qualified.

  • For example, you might write something like, “I’ve had a broad range of professional experiences that qualify me for the position, including working in the school district as a teacher’s aide while working on my college education, getting the opportunity to tutor at-risk youth in an after-school program run by a local charity, and completing my student teaching at this school.”

Step 6 Provide evidence of your experiences and skills.

  • For example, if you mention that you completed one of your student teaching rotations at the school you’re applying to work at, then you might expand on what you learned about the school and its teachers during that experience and how that knowledge would make you a good fit for this position.
  • If you mentioned that you hold a special certification, then you might expand on how that could enhance your ability to fulfill the needs of the position to which you’re applying.

Step 7 Emphasize what you’d contribute as a teacher at this school.

  • For example, you might include a line about your persistence and refusal to give up on students who struggle with course material, or you might mention that your professors or former employers have praised you for your ingenuity in designing engaging lessons.

Tip : Try to be as specific as possible whenever you talk about your qualifications. Point to professional experiences, certifications, training, and other evidence to support your claims.

Concluding Your Letter

Step 1 Reemphasize your qualifications and interest in the position.

  • For example, you might write something like, “Because of my professional experiences and special certifications, I’m very interested in the 7-12 French teacher position at Northwestern Central School.”

Step 2 Thank the employer for their time and consideration and look ahead.

  • Try saying something like, “Thank you for considering my application! I hope we can meet soon to discuss my qualifications further.” [14] X Research source
  • You may also indicate when you’re available or suggest a time and date for an even stronger option. For example, you could say something like, “I’m available to meet in person most weekday mornings and on Friday afternoons.” Or, you could say, “I’m available next Friday afternoon between 1:00 and 4:00 pm if you’d like to schedule an interview.”

Step 3 Provide an email address and phone number where you can be reached.

  • For example, you might write something like, “My cell phone number is (123) 555-1234 and my email is [email protected].”

Tip : You can skip this if you have included this information on your resume.

Step 4 End with a simple sign off and your name.

Revising and Proofreading Your Letter

Step 1 Check the content of your letter and revise as needed.

  • For example, if the job posting emphasizes that the ideal candidate should have evidence that their teaching strategies are successful, then you might want to add more detail on the positive feedback you’ve received during teaching observations.

Tip : If you’re a recent graduate or student applying for a teaching position, you might ask your advisor to review your cover letter for you and provide feedback. If they’re unavailable, visit your college’s career development center and ask one of the career counselors to review it for you.

Step 2 Ensure that your letter is brief and to the point.

  • Not making your letter more than 1 page long
  • Describing your skills using action verbs similar to the ones in the job posting
  • Avoiding long, intricate sentences that may be difficult to follow

Step 3 Read through the letter again to check for errors.

  • Try reading the letter out loud to help you spot any errors that you might miss while reading the letter silently.
  • Don’t rely on your word processing software to catch errors. These programs are not foolproof for spotting errors.

Step 4 Print the letter on high-quality bond paper and sign it.

  • If you need to submit the letter electronically, convert it to PDF format.

1. Start by including your address, contact information, and date.

When you start writing your application letter for a teaching job, you must add your address and contact information. It would be easy for employers to reach out to you when you include your contact details and address in your application letter.

Your contact details and your address should look like this in your application letter:

23 Rogers Lane,

Williams Estates,

26th January 2022.

You should also include the school’s address after yours. It should also appear like this in your application letter:

Susan Peters,

Head Teacher/School Administrator,

Great Height International School.

Ikeja, Lagos.

2. Address the letter to the right person

You need to address your application letter to the right person when you are applying for a teaching job in Nigeria. It is better for you to directly address the right person in your application letter instead of saying;  “Hiring manager”  or  “to whom it may concern”.

You should do some research to find out the right person to address your application letter. You can visit the school’s website to find out the right person to address. You can also contact the school to find out the person in charge of recruitment.

3. Introduce yourself in the first paragraph and talk about where you saw the job vacancy.

Start your application letter by introducing yourself. You can start by talking about where you saw the job advert, then go ahead to talk about why you are interested in the position. Also, talk about what makes you the best candidate for the position.

You can also include information about yourself that would give the recruiter a better understanding of who you are and how you fit into the organization.

4. Talk about your education and other certifications that make you the best person for the job.

Teaching is a profession, and as such your educational qualifications and certifications goes a long way to determine if you would get the job. Every employer wants to hire a qualified teacher, and also someone that is certified to teach.

It is smart for you to talk about your education in your application letter to give the employer a background of your qualification. You can also state your grades or the name of the institution that you graduated from especially if it is of high repute.

You can also talk about how you became interested in teaching. This will give the employer a glimpse of who you are and how you fit into the role.

5. Talk about your experience in teaching and the achievements that you have gotten so far.

When it comes to getting a teaching job in Nigeria, your experience is extremely important. Including your teaching experience in your application letter gives the employer an idea of your expertise in teaching.

You can talk about your experience in a way that the employer can see how you have progressed in your career. If you don’t have teaching experience, you can still talk about the experience that you have that is related to teaching.

For instance, if you have worked with the learning and development department in a corporate organization, you can talk about your experience in the company.

Always talk about your teaching experience that focuses on the accomplishments that you are most proud of.

6. You can include your teaching techniques and values.

It is good that you outline how you like to teach, and the values you follow as a teacher shows more about who you are as an educator. You should include details about how you have built the value that you follow when you teach students.

You can also mention some of the skills that you have that makes you a great teacher. You can also make the employer understand the style of teaching that is most appropriate for the kind of students that you are looking to teach.

7. You can conclude with a positive closing.

It is good that you close your letter politely and positively by showing your appreciation to the reader for considering you for a role. You can include information about how you plan to follow up, indicate whether you want to call the hiring manager or send an email.

The final paragraph of your application letter should leave an impression on the recruiter or employer.

Dear MRS Susan,

APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF A CLASS TEACHER

I am writing this application letter in response to the open position for a class teacher at Great Height International School. I am a second-class graduate of the College of Education Lagos, and I have over 2 years of teachings experience at both the primary and secondary school’s levels. I believe that my passion for literacy in rural communities makes me an ideal candidate for a teaching position at your school.

I have experience in teaching secondary school students both professionally and in training. I have worked as a student teacher and a teaching assistant in the beginning part of my career. As a former education coordinator during my National Youth Service Corps. I also have experience in teaching primary school students. From the job description, I can see that your school caters for both children in local communities and children in urban areas. I think that my experience with local communities will make me a great candidate.

From my research, one advantage that your school has over other schools is how it inspires students to be a part of community development programs. I am passionate about building a safer environment so I try to incorporate it into my learning plans. In my previous job, I led a team of secondary school students to plant trees around the school’s compound. I would love to look for ways to integrate community development into my lessons.

I look forward to combining my years of experience with my ability to be a compassionate, passionate, and enthusiastic teacher who will make a positive contribution to your school and the community at large.

I appreciate your consideration for the role, and I look forward to speaking with you further regarding the position. I am happy to answer any additional questions you may have.

John Adams.

Looks like most of the people commenting on this article can't even write a letter even when the article has taken the stress of explaining and providing templates for it, so my question then is, why even bother trying to be a teacher? what exactly do you have to offer if you are not literate enough to write an application letter honestly you shouldn't be teaching. While you are learning how to write a teaching application letter, maybe you should also learn these that'll keep you employed, "IF" you actually get accepted
