When you know your goals for social media , you can keep the rest of your strategy on track. Some companies only care about audience growth and branding, while others expect to drive measurable sales directly from social content.

The right goals for your business really depend on what you sell.

If you sell a low-cost e-commerce product, you can easily gain direct sales from social platforms. But B2B companies might need to use social media to gain leads and keep in touch with their existing customers.

The longer and more complex your sales cycle, the less likely you’ll be able to tie social media directly to revenue. Instead, you should set goals that are related to brand awareness, lead generation, community building, and customer retention.

💡Helpful Tips :

  • Come up with 2 - 5 goals yourself before meeting with stakeholders to get their input. This will provide a better starting point for the meeting.
  • Make your goals as specific and measurable as possible . For example, instead of “We want to grow our audience,” write “We want to grow our audience by 60%.” Or instead of, “Our goal is to increase our customer acquisition from social channels,” write “Our goal is to increase our social media customer acquisition from 2% of our overall acquisition to 10%.”

It’s important to include descriptions of your target audience in your documented strategy so that you can craft the strategy through the lens of what your audience will really care about.

The next step is to write down exactly who your target audience is.

B2C companies typically use a variety of demographics and interests. For example, 30- to 50-year-old women who are interested in housekeeping, home decor, and minimalism.

But B2B companies are usually better off using the jobs-to-be-done (JTBD) framework , as their target customers can come from a wide variety of age, gender, and ethnic backgrounds.

JTBD teaches us to define our customers by the jobs they need to get done. For example, a chief cybersecurity officer needs to protect his organization against ransomware.

  • Review your target audience description with all stakeholders to make sure everyone is on board. Iron out any disagreements until you’ve defined your audience accurately.
  • If you have two or more target audiences, create a page or section in your strategy for each one. Later on in step 5, create a content plan for each audience and describe how you will address the needs of your different audiences.

What are your competitors doing on social media? Deep competitor analysis can make it easier to know exactly how to approach your own social media accounts.

With your goals and target audience clear, you’ll be able to select the right competitors to analyze.

You should analyze at least 3 competitors from each of these categories:

  • Direct competitors - Companies that offer a similar solution to solve a similar problem.
  • Indirect competitors - Companies that offer a different solution to solve a similar problem.
  • Content competitors - Companies that compete with you for your target audience’s attention on social media, even if the problems you solve are different.

As with every part of your social strategy, the competitive analysis needs to be well documented. You can’t just spy on your competitors without writing anything down. At the very least, you should list their channels, account handles, followings, content formats, and content pillars.

  • Create a Google Sheet and make a row for each competitor. Then, in your strategy presentation, create a section for your overall findings from competitor analysis.   • What content gets the best engagement? How about the worst? For thorough content analysis, link to the top 10 highest-performing and top 10 lowest-performing posts for each of your competitors. Put these in your spreadsheet, so you’ll have inspiration 24/7.

Start by listing out the distribution channels you hope to tackle, making sure to include only channels your audience is actually present on.

Then, use the RICE method to choose which channels you should actually prioritize right now. With the RICE method, you give each item a score from 1 to 10 for these categories : Reach, Impact, Confidence, and Effort. (For effort, if it’s a low effort, you give a higher score.)

Then, you tally up the scores to discover which channels to choose. For example, let’s say you want to take on TikTok, but your confidence and effort scores are such that it doesn’t make it into your top 3.

  • Depending on the size of your team and budget, choose the social channels for which you will have sufficient resources to create great content and manage audience engagement.
  • If your budget and resources are low, choose only 1 or 2 channels to start with. Once you’ve met some of your goals on your core channels and you have the resources needed to create content for another channel, then you can take that on next.
  • Consider content repurposing when choosing channels. For example, you might find that you can handle Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn because you are repurposing your Instagram content for the other 3 platforms.

Step 5. Choose your content formats, pillars, and frequency

Your content creation strategy should make up a sizeable portion of your overall documented social media strategy. What kind of content will you create? Which formats and media types will you use? Which content pillars will you satisfy?

Content formats

Social media algorithms love native content. This means content that was truly designed for that platform, rather than trying to get people off the platform. So, you might create a Facebook post with multiple images, a LinkedIn carousel, a TikTok video, etc.

Every social platform has its own content formats. Some platforms have tons of different formats. Instagram, for example, allows you to create Stories, Reels, Carousels, Feed Posts, Lives, and more. Instagram is known for copying other platforms like TikTok and Snapchat.

Should you try to keep up with every content format under the sun? Absolutely not.

Tie your content pillars to customer concerns. What do customers ask you about? What do they want to know? The answers to these questions should guide your 3 to 6 content categories, your social media content pillars .

Posting frequency

A great social media strategy covers how frequently you’ll post each type of content on each channel.

  • How will your social media content play into your overall content marketing funnel ? Make sure to include these details in this section of your strategy. For example, you might share your plan for promoting lead magnets to generate leads.

  • In your strategy document, clarify what you’ll track for each channel. For example, for TikTok, you might clarify that you’ll track views, likes, comments, and saves per post, as well as audience count, audience growth rate, and website traffic for the entire channel.

How to Quickly Make Social Media Marketing PowerPoint PPT Presentation

In this tutorial, we'll customize a social media PowerPoint template from Envato Elements. It's one of just many included with your monthly subscription. 

Now let's get started customizing our social media PowerPoint presentation template:

1. Choose the Slides You Want to Use

The first step to editing your social media template is to choose the slides that you want to use. Upon looking at our template, not all the slides will be necessary for our presentation.

For each slide that you don't want to include in our presentation, right click and choose the Delete Slide option.

When you're going through your templates slides have your presentation's content handy. That way you'll know what specific slides you want to use, and which ones don't fit with the particular content of your presentation. 

2. Choose Your Theme

Each template already comes with a theme. But the current theme doesn't quite match our company's brand identity. The colors on the slides aren't exactly on theme for our brand, so we'll change these.

To change the theme, click the Design tab on the top menu bar. You can select from all the various preset color themes that PowerPoint offers, but we've very specific colors that we want to add. You can create a custom theme that's got the exact colors that are used for our brand from the Design tab.

Navigate to the far right of the design section and click the drop down arrow. From the drop down menu, choose Colors > Customize Colors. This opens up a menu where you can choose the exact color for the various text, accents, and hyperlinks.

Input all your custom colors into the various fields and then click the Save button. This will save your current color theme as Custom 1. Now you're ready to add your content to the presentation. 

3. Add In Your Content

Adding your presentations content to your slides is incredibly easy. All you've got to do is double click the text placeholders and paste in your own text. Have all your presentation's content on a document so you can just copy and paste all the information on the slides.

4. Resize and Adjust Text Placeholders

The text placeholders may be the perfect size for the amount of text that's currently in them. But they might be too small or too big for the text that you want to add.

There's an easy fix. Just click and drag the corners of the text placeholders and resize them. Also, click and dragging the text boxes allows you to move them wherever you'd like on the slides. 

5. Change Fonts

Another way to customize your social media PowerPoint template is to change the fonts that were used. You can do this by clicking onto any text area, pressing the CTRL+A to select all the text. Then select a different font from the dropdown menu on the Home tab.

You can also switch to the Design tab and click on the downward arrow under the Themes section. Then, hover over Fonts and choose a different font set.

6. Add Images

Images are a great way to add visual interest to your presentation. Often templates will come with image placeholders where you can just click on the image icon and add an image from your computer. Our template doesn't include image placeholders, but we can easily add images to any one of our slides. 

To do this, click on the Insert tab. Next click on Pictures > Picture from File... This opens up the files on your computer where you can select our specific image that you want on our slide.

7. Customize Slide Backgrounds With Images

Besides adding photos to your slides, you can also set an image as a background. To do this click on the Design tab and select the Format Background option. This opens up a menu on the right hand of the social media PowerPoint.

Then select the Picture or texture fill circle and then select the Insert... button. From there select an image from our computer and it'll be inserted into the background of the slide you're on.

8. Edit the Infographics Data

Our template comes with a ton of great graphics that help us show our company's data. But the display of the infographics doesn't quite match the information that we want to provide for one of our slides. On our "Social Media Statistic by Gender" slide, we want to adjust the circle graphics to reflect our percentages for the certain age groups. 

To adjust the graphics on this page, click on the layer that you want to adjust. In this case it's the white outline on the circle graphic. Then drag the position to more accurately depict the percentage.

9. Customize Icons

Next, we want to replace a graphic that's on one of our slides. We'll navigate to the "Why Use Google+" slide and look to the right hand table. The "50% Google+" section has an icon that we'd like to replace. To start, we'll delete the icon that's currently there.

To do this, highlight the icon and press the Backspace button. Next, we'll navigate to the top header and choose the Insert > Icons option. This brings up a right hand menu of icons to choose from. Select the human looking icon. Click the Insert button at the bottom right hand corner.

Next, we need to change the color of the icon to match our theme.

Change the color by right clicking the icon and choosing the format graphic option. A right hand menu appears again. Click the fill drop down menu. Then click on the Paint Can icon and choose the color white. Our icon is now in the color of our color scheme. Finally, adjust the size of the icon by clicking and dragging to our desired size.

10. Customize the Map

Lastly, you can customize the map to better reflect the data in your presentation. Simply right-click on the country or continent you want to colorize and then select Format Shape . Click on Fill > Solid Fill and select your desired color from the drop-down menu.

  • Video views. This varies by platform, but refers to the number of views you receive on a video. Some channels treat video views as impressions–like TikTok–and others get super detailed with views. For example, Instagram offers views metrics for Stories, Reels and Live. If you haven’t already, it’s time to tap into the creator economy . The Sprout Social Index™ shows that 25% of consumers remember brands that collaborate with content creators and influencers. Social partnerships are very effective when executed correctly: they can help drive traffic to your website, produce compelling content and inspire purchase decisions.

But consumers care about creators’ qualifications, so choose wisely. The two most important qualifications of content creators working with brands is their experience with the product/service and their authenticity.

Identify creators who align with your brand and consider how they can help you craft stand-out content for your audience.

Pro-tip: conduct a competitive analysis to help your content stand out

Before you start creating content, you should have a good idea of what your competitors are up to.

While some brands might want to look into third-party competitor analysis tools to dig deeper into their competitors’ numbers, you can learn a lot from a simple review of your competitors’ social presence.

The simplest way to find competitors is through a Google search. Look up your most valuable keywords, phrases and industry terms to see who shows up.

Then, see how their social channels compare to your own. The goal here isn’t to copycat or steal your competitors’ ideas. Instead, determine what’s working for them and what conclusions you can draw to adapt your own campaigns accordingly.

What are the 7 steps to create an effective social media strategy presentation?

Accordingly to Amrit, your agency’s social media strategy presentation should include SMART goals, which stand for s pecific, m easurable, a chievable, r elevant, and t ime-bound.

“You should set up specific goals that are measurable, timebound, and help define a client’s target audience by the jobs they need to get done. From there, your agency can develop the proper strategies and engagement tactics to effectively reach that audience.”

To get started, here are the steps your agency should take:

  • Step one: Define the problem to be solved with what and why. Identify the challenge or opportunity that your client is facing, and determine how social media can help solve the problem or take advantage of the opportunity.
  • Step two: Define the social media goals. Establish specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals that align with your client’s overall business objectives and that can be tracked and evaluated over time.
  • Step three: Identify the target audience. Understand who your client’s ideal customer is, including their demographics, interests, pain points, and online behaviors, so that you can tailor your social media content and messaging to resonate with them.
  • Step four: Choose or suggest the right social media platforms. Determine which social media channels the target audience uses the most and align the content strategy with those platforms to maximize reach and engagement.
  • Step five: Develop a content strategy. Create a plan for the types of content you will create and share on social media, including a mix of promotional, educational, and entertaining content that reflects your client’s brand voice and values.
  • Step six: Plan for engagement. Establish a process for responding to comments , messages, and reviews on social media, and engage with followers in a way that is authentic, helpful, and on-brand.
  • Step seven: Measure and optimize. Use social media analytics to track the performance of content and campaigns, identify areas for improvement, and adjust your strategy accordingly to ensure that you are meeting your goals and delivering value to your client and their audience.

When crafting the social media strategy presentation for your clients, Amrit recommends striving for alignment on a few key elements.

“Agencies need to align with their clients on the problem they are solving , what the impact to the local business client will be, as well as what success will look like . From there agencies will need to gain approval on the strategy and content before it goes live. You should also agree on a timeline for goals and milestones,” Amrit says.

When it comes to the tools your agency can use for crafting your next social media strategy presentation, Amrit suggests a few of her go-to’s.

“I have used Canva , Vendasta’s Proposal Builder , and Powtoon . Google slides are also very helpful, simple, and easy to use.”

AI-generated content changes the game for agencies offering social media services to their clients

The recent explosion in AI-generated content has completely changed the game for agencies reselling social media services to their clients.

“With the advent of advanced natural language processing (NLP) algorithms, machine learning models, and deep learning techniques, AI can now generate high-quality social media content, including text, images, videos, and even entire social media campaigns,” Amrit says.

“The use of AI in social media services has transformed the way agencies approach content creation, making it more efficient, effective, and scalable, ultimately driving better results for their client’s social media marketing efforts.”

Tip for developing prompts for AI-generated social media content

“Crafting effective prompts is an iterative process that requires experimentation, refinement, and understanding of the capabilities and limitations of the AI model you are working with,” Amrit says.

She continues by outlining a few guidelines to help agencies get started:

  • Be clear, specific, and detailed. The more instruction you can give, the better the result.
  • Use context, cues, roles, and expected outcomes. To craft a prompt for an AI-generated image, you can use phrasing like: Create a portrait photograph of a Brazilian girl that captures the essence of culture. The photograph should be in natural lighting that complements her skin tone and color with a subtle background.
  • Experiment with different phrasing. Continuing to add more details to your prompt until AI generates a satisfactory result.
  • Iterate and refine. Don’t go in using the same prompts time and time again, expecting a better result. As you learn and develop as a user of AI, the technology itself is also evolving. Experiment with new ways of asking for the content you need and discover what delivers the best results for your clients.

Why use PowerPoint for Social Media marketing?

While PowerPoint might not be the go-to software for creating social media content, you will be amazed at how versatile it actually is! It offers a wide array of very intuitive design tools, even for someone with little design experience. Photoshop, Illustrator, or After Effects… these are usually the default for those working on creating visual content. However, these types of software demand to be brought separately and have a steep learning curve.

The biggest advantage of PowerPoint is that chances are, you already have it installed on your computer! As part of the Microsoft Office Suite, it’s a widespread tool, so you’re probably already familiarized with its workspace. It doesn’t need any particular hardware specifications like some of the “bigger” programs do. Despite its apparent simplicity, you can do some incredible videos for social media with PowerPoint. Things to consider when making a social media video

If you’re already familiar with making presentation slides in PowerPoint, you might feel tempted to approach making videos for social media exactly the same. However, it’s important to remember that videos, especially social media ones, need a very different approach.

For starters, when doing a presentation, your audience is most likely already interested in the topic. At the very least, they are probably open to the subject (since they are attending your presentation for a reason). On the contrary, in social media, your content is always going to fight to get attention. Social media channels are extremely “noisy,” and there are thousands and thousands of videos and images that people can go through. It is constantly updating itself and growing.

That’s why so much social media content is focused on what it can offer to the viewer. Instead of just advertisement for the product or service, social media content usually focuses on getting the target’s attention by giving them valuable and useful content. Ask yourself why your audience should keep watching. This way, you’ll be able to think it through and be very strategic with the content you make. Here are other things to take into consideration when creating social media videos with PowerPoint:

More visual elements, less text

According to studies, the average attention span on Facebook is between 1.7 and 2.5 seconds . This means you have around 2 seconds to convince a person they want to continue watching your video. Human brains are naturally wired to pay more attention to images than text. That’s why visual content is so prominent on all sorts of platforms. Make sure that the social media videos you’re creating with PowerPoint take full advantage of the visual aspect. While it might be tempting to add a written explanation as you would on a presentation, keep the text at a minimum. Use keywords and visual elements to convey your message in a more engaging way.

Make it short and sweet.

Following the last point, it’s essential to make your content bite-size. The overall ideal length of your video depends on what platform you’re using . But the general rule is to make it as short as possible. A short attention span on social media also means that people jump quickly from one publication to the next. That’s why it is extra important to deliver your message as efficiently as possible and don’t drag it too long!

Exploit PowerPoint tools!

PowerPoint offers an amazing array of tools that can be used to create social media videos. Animations and transitions will make your video run smoothly. If you have Office 365, great options to take into consideration are the Morph and Zoom features . The Morph tool, in particular, will allow you to “transform” certain elements from one slide to the next automatically! This will give your video a more professional, seamless look without any work.

Social Media aspect ratios

Take into consideration that different social media channels have different aspect ratios and limitations. For example, Facebook and Instagram stories have a vertical aspect ratio of 9:16. However, Instagram in-feed videos work better with a square 1:1. These aspect ratios are constantly changing, so you must know what platform you’re posting your video to and the preferred specifications. Luckily for you, when working on a social media video with PowerPoint, you can customize it to fit your needs perfectly ! You just need to go to the de Design tab > Slide Size > Custom Slide Size . You’ll get a new window where you can make your slide fit precisely the aspect ratio you’re looking for. Don’t forget to make your videos big enough, so it doesn’t lose any quality when posted online. For example, a good size for a Facebook square video would be 12.5 x 12.5.

How to create a social media video with PowerPoint from an already existing video

If you want to make an already existing video more social media-friendly, PowerPoint is a great option. You can add your recording to your slides just like you would in a common presentation. This way, you’ll be able to crop it, ad a frame, text, or extra graphics, and download it as a video.

Step 1: Customize your slide aspects

As it was said in the section before, one of the best things about making videos for social media in PowerPoint is that you can customize them. This way, you’ll have content that fits perfectly whatever channel you’re going to use. You just need to go to the Design tab > Slide Size > Custom Slide Size . In the new window that pops up, you’ll be able to add the aspect ratio that better fits your needs.

In this example, I will be making an Instagram Story post. This means my slide size will follow the 9:16 aspect ratio.

Step 2: Insert your video into your slide

Go to the Insert tab > Video . Here you will be able to choose whatever video you want to add, or even choose from the PowerPoint stock video library.

Step 3: Adjust video settings

By clicking on your video, you’ll be able to access the Video Format tab . This is where you can edit your video as much as you want. You can change the color, brightness, add different “styles” and frames, and even change the overall shape of your video. Here you can also crop your video to make sure it fits your slide perfectly and that everything that you want to showcase is within the frame.

Step 4: Add graphics and text

Now that you have your main video ready, it’s time to add all the compliments! You can add anything you would add to a normal PowerPoint slide. Text, images, shapes, icons, your imagination is the limit!

Remember that you can also add animations and transitions to these elements. This will make the elements “appear” in a certain order, versus just “being there” from the start. You can even customize the effects to change directions and durations.

Step 5: Make your video run automatically

This is an extremely important step when making social media videos with PowerPoint! In order to get your video to work, you first need to set it to run automatically. Otherwise, when you export it, your video will remain as a still image. Luckily this is very easy to do.

Click on your video and choose the Playback tab option. In this section, you’ll be able to customize all the video settings and how it will look when played. In the Video Options section, choose Start: automatically . Here you can also choose if you want to video to loop or rewind once it’s over.

If you have added text, graphics, or other elements with animation effects, you must also make them run automatically.

Step 6: Export as a video

Now you’re all done! If you haven’t yet, play your video first as you would a normal slide to make sure it looks exactly as you wanted it to be. Take into consideration that all animation effects and your video should run automatically, no clicks needed.

Once you’re sure it is perfect, you just need to go to File > Export > Create a Video . Choose the quality you want for your video and how long you want to spend on each slide. Since all your video is condensed into one slide, this time should be the length of your original video so you don’t lose any footage. Select Create Video , and you’re all done!

Final note: Once it’s in video form, you won’t be able to edit it. That’s why you might want to save the document as a PowerPoint file too ! This will allow you to go back and edit it in case you need it. Otherwise, you’ll need to do everything back to back!

How to create social media videos from scratch with PowerPoint

You can also use PowerPoint to create social media videos from scratch! You can add content to different slides and use transitions to give the effect of a seamless animation.

Just like last time, start by choosing the technical aspects of your video. Change your canvas size in the Design tab > Slide Size > Custom Slide Size to fit the aspect ratio of the social media platform you’re going to use.

In this case, I’ll be using a 12.5×12.5 to create with PowerPoint a square social media video. This will make it fit both Instagram and Facebook organic feeds.

Step 2: Get your slides done!

Now that you have your canvas, it is time to get to the design aspect of it all! To make your life a little easier, you can use a template to help you with the design. You’ll probably have to edit it to fit the slides’ new aspect ratio, but it’s still a good starting point! In this case, I’ll be using one from our Templates by 24Slides free library .

Work your way through the slides and add all the elements you want in your social media video. Remember to make the most of the visual elements like images and icons, and keep the text to the minimum!

Step 3: Add animations

Now it’s time to make it look like a video instead of just PowerPOint slides. A great option for Office 365 users is the Morph feature . This tool will make your slides have a seamless transition between slides by identifying similar elements and “transforming” them one into the next from slide to slide. Learn more about how to use the morph feature here .

You can also add animation effects within one same slide. This will make specific elements appear (or exit) in their own way and. If you have animations in one same slide that need to follow a certain order or too many elements, the Animation Pane tool is a must! This side window will let you see all the active animations and transitions in each slide, what order will they appear in, their duration, and their start cue.

While this process might seem complicated at first, it’s all about trial-and-error. It’ll probably take a time to get used to it. It’s all about playing it over and over and tuning it up until it looks exactly as you want it to be!

Step 4: Export as a video

Finally, it’s time to turn your PowerPoint file into a video you can use for social media. go to File > Export > Create a Video . Pick your video quality and how much time you want to spend on each slide. Don’t forget to save it as a PowerPoint file too, so you can edit it later if needed!

And there you have it, a social media video created 100% with PowerPoint!
