Computer Games Essay

This page analyzes a  computer games essay  and also notes how you can make good use of the question to plan and organize your essay.

You have to be careful with this essay as although you have to discuss the pros and cons of the issue, there is a second part to the question that is not about this.

Take a look at the IELTS task 2 question:

Nowadays many people have access to computers on a wide basis and a large number of children play computer games.

What are the positive and negative impacts of playing computer games and what can be done to minimize the bad effects?

The Topic and the Task

Remember to always analyze the question carefully. The topic should be fairly clear:

  • Computer games

Remember to also look carefully to see if the topic is being narrowed down to a particular aspect of the topic. In this case it is:

Children Computer Games Essay

Now you need to check what the task is. How many things do you have to write about?

Hopefully you realized there are three things that you can easily turn into brainstorming questions:

  • What are the positive impacts of computer games on children?
  • What are the negative impacts of computer games on children?
  • How can the negative impacts be minimized?

Your answers to these questions will form your computer games essay.

You do not have much time and you have three things to answer, so one or two ideas for each is enough, as remember you will need to explain your ideas and give examples.

Now, take a look at the model answer.

Computer Games Essay Question:

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic:

Nowadays many people have access to computers on a wide basis and a large number of children play computer games.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own experience or knowledge.

Write at least 250 words.

Computer Games Essay Model Answer:

Access to computers has increased significantly over recent decades, and the number of children playing games on computers has increased too. This essay will consider the positive and negative impacts of this and discuss ways to avoid the potential negative effects.

With regards to the positive effects, playing computer games can develop children’s cognitive skills. Many popular games require abstract and high level thinking skills in order to win, skills that may not be taught at school. For example, children need to follow instructions, solve complex problems and use logic in many of the games that are currently popular. Such experience will be beneficial to a child’s progression into an adult.

However, concerns have been raised about the prolific use of computer games by children, much of this related to the violence they contain. The problem is that in many of the games children are rewarded for being more violent, and this violence is repeated again and again. For instance, many games involve children helping their character to kill, kick, stab and shoot. This may lead to increased aggressive feelings, thoughts, and behaviours.

In order to minimize these negative impacts, parents need to take certain steps. Firstly, some video games are rated according to their content, so parents must check this and ensure their children are not allowed to have access to games that are unsuitable. Parents can also set limits on the length of time games are played. Finally, parents should also take an active interest in the games their children are playing so they can find out how they feel about what they are observing.

To sum up, there are benefits of computer games, but there are disadvantages too. However, if parents take adequate precautions, the severity of these negative impacts can be avoided.

( 295 Words )

My Hobby is Gaming

My Hobby is Gaming

The hobby is a favorite activity that a person likes doing for recreational or entertainment purposes. In today’s busy life, all one does is come home from work, wake up again the next day and start working on. The loop keeps on repeating and repeating until the day comes when you get stressed to a level where you no longer wish you would work or earn. Making a name for yourself, for your career is all one wants and desires, but losing yourself along the way is no way of compromising with yourself or your work. Surrounded by many of my notable hobbies, going out, spending time on the computer, sports, reading, music, etc.

Whenever the word hobby comes up, one thinks of all the things that one likes doing, it can be gardening, it can be collecting flowers of different kinds, or it can be reading newspapers. Anything that suits you, this is where my conflict starts with people. I ask you as a person, do you really believe that gardening can help you lose your stress levels, and I hope your answer is a No because it is clearly a No.

How can collecting flowers help you reduce your stress levels and bring you back to a world of competitiveness? It’s almost surreal and too weird to be believed and considered true. I, however, have developed a hobby that actually helps me reduce my stress levels. Actually helps me cool down for a few hours and brings me back to my working position in no time.

I am talking about Gaming. My favorite hobby is playing video games. Yes, you might be thinking “How does gaming reduce your stress levels”. I’ll explain how. You see in a world full of competitiveness, I have found my passion and named it my hobby. Playing video games helps me to release my stress, also it relaxes me from a hard and long day of school/work. No, I am talking about the games that actually help you to understand this hard world a lot better. I am talking about competitive gaming. People from all over the world, gamers gathering around in an area, being shouted on, and cheered by a few millions of gamers, what’s better than that? Competitive gaming not only helps in actually competing but also develops a sense of “Being the best” in one. I would almost spend 1/2/3 hr playing video games each day.

Gaming is my way to relax. So, what’s better than finding your hobby is something that accelerates your desire for being the best through something that almost 50% of my readers like doing “Gaming”.  Videogames are played for the sake of entertainment. Adopting a hobby not only helps you in confirming who you are a person but who you are as a happy person who can take on any challenges and still stay stress-free because what he adapted as his hobby helps him in being that person.  There are both positive and negative effects on playing these games. Most negative effects are endured by excessive playing. Your reflexes might improve if you play games that need timing. You learn English while you play because games are usually in English. Gaming can be addictive! The cons of gaming are not that bad, it depends on how much you play and from what point you look at it.

Task 2 Essay # Children and computer games

Ielts task 2 essay.

Nowadays many people have access to computers on a regular basis and a large number of children play computer games. What are the positive and negative impacts of playing computer games and what can be done to minimize the bad effects?   Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own experience or knowledge.

Sample Answer

Technology and its reach in human life have significantly increased over the past few years. This has had a lot of implications, including a dramatic increase in the number of children playing computer games. This essay will examine various impacts of this change and discuss possibilities to avoid any negative effects.

Talking about the positive aspects, playing computer games has numerous benefits. These can range from helping children develop cognitive skills to increase their logical reasoning. Games have developed into a whole industry. These have allowed children to test their abstract and logical thinking skills. Many of these games require children to follow various commands and try to solve complex problems with the use of logic. Such games are surely advantageous for a child’s mental progress.

On the other hand, people are raising concerns over the prolific use of violence and sanguinary elements that these games contain. These may be highly addictive, in the sense that they reward the players for being more violent, thereby setting a wrong example. Apart from being addictive, they contribute to arresting a child’s social development and lead to the inculcation of aggressive feelings of anger and hate in their thoughts and habits.

However, there are many steps that can be taken to minimize negative impacts. Firstly, video games are rated for different ages and parents can choose them for the children in order to avoid unsuitable content. Secondly, parents can limit the duration of playing games for the children to keep addiction at bay. Finally, parents should take an active interest in the children’s activities and encourage them to play outdoor games.

To sum it up, video games have a lot of advantages along with an array of disadvantages. Parents should supervise their children and take precautions to avoid any negative effects these might have on children.

Many adults nowadays prefer spending their free time playing computer games.

Why do they do this?

Is this a positive or negative development?

A large proportion of adults now enjoy playing computer games during their free time. In my opinion, this is a result of developments in mobile technology and is decidedly negative since computer games encourage passivity.

The primary cause of increased interest in games is their availability. In the past, computer games could only be played on desktop computers at home. Now, it is possible to play the same essential games on laptops, tablets, and smartphones. This means that individuals are more likely to become addicted over time as research has shown the strength of intermittent rewards in forming addictive habits. For example, the average worker can play games on their phone while on the commute to work, during work on a desktop or laptop, and throughout the day whenever they have a break. This creates a powerful feedback loop in the same way as other drugs.

In my opinion, the entertainment value of such games pales in comparison to their impact on sedentary lifestyles. Before computer games became pervasive habits, individuals were more likely to spend time talking with friends, reading books, participating in physical activities, and being generally more productive. All these habits were better for mental and physical health. Computer games, on the other hand, require a minimal level of mental activity and feed users small bursts of dopamine that keep them occupied and entertained for hours. The cumulative effect, particularly when coupled with other passive activities such as using social media and watching streaming sites, is a generation of less active and creative individuals.

In conclusion, adults play computer games more often these days because of the availability of mobile technology and this is harmful as it fosters passivity. It is therefore important for adults to set limits for themselves.

Hello, in the introduction,is it ok to use word ‘mobile technology’ when the question is about computer games?

Dave

It is a little iffy – but I tried to connect them more in the first body paragraph by saying that the games are essentially the same.

To be safe, you might want to stick to games played on the computer itself – but smartphones are just a type of portable computer so that’s why I felt fine extending it.

Otherwise, the distinction to me feels arbitrary – games are games, after all.

Ok. Thank u

You’re welcome!

Benita

Hope you are doing great!

What is your idea about my introduction?

Computer games, once merely perceived as children’s hobbies, are now becoming increasingly popular as adults’ pastimes. To relieve work stress and to enjoy their inherent competitiveness, people take refuge in these computerized recreational activities. Personally, I believe that the proliferation of these games has been detrimental to people’s mental and physical health.

Thanks a lot!

Great level of vocabulary – very academic, Benita.

A little long and wordy, though.

gakki

Nowadays, people from all countries in all ages like playing computer games. However, such kind of games is considers as posion to children by parents, becaues games can not educate kids and are bad for the health. In my opinion, I disagree with this statement as I believe computer games actually have many benefits for children, including mental and physical benefits.

Computer games can improve the ability to imagine. In recent years, more and more games do not ask players to win, but to create. For example, there is a game about creating a brand new civilization on a planet. It needs players to design the building based on the environment of the planet. In such games, children can not only learn about building and biology, but also apply what they’ve learned to their own creations. Moreover, it has fewer constraints on the creation of games than other situations, such as paper folding or Lego. Therefore, children are encouraged to create in computer games and have the perfect stage to do so.

The reaction ability can also be developed by playing computer games. In some games, the player needs to focus on the computer and decide what to do immediately. In the first personal shooting games, the player needs to shoot the target as quickly as they see it, which improves the speed of reaction. In action games, the player needs to achieve many outstanding movements by pressing the game controller in some pattern, which results in flexible hands. If children want to win, they need to control their bodies perfectly. During the time of playing games, children practice the speed of reaction and learn to control their bodies.

As a result, I can not agree with the view that the game is harmful for children. By contrast, I argue that computer games can help children develop their capacity for creation and body control.

Good work again, Gakki!

Still some informal language like ‘poison’ but otherwise really strong examples, support, and a academic vocabulary!

Shaima

Computer games that used to be a major hobby of children is also played by a large proportion of adults today to pass their free time. Personally, I believe the main reasons for this are to relieve stress from work or family and is used an escape from reality. Although these may seem like benefits, I endorse that they contribute to a negative development. I will further discuss my reasons in this essay.

Decades or years ago adults would have preferred to read a book, speak to a friend, or go for a walk during their free time to relieve stress, which I believe is decidedly much more rewarding to ones mental and physical health in comparison to computer games. For instance, going for a walk would allow the individual some alone time as well as improve his/her physical health due to better blood circulation and exercise. This way of relieving stress is much more active and beneficial unlike sitting in front of a screen for hours, destroying your eyesight as well as keeping your mind less active.

Moreover, computer games are played as an escape from reality. However, I think that there are copious other ways to detach from reality that give a positive development and helps the individual in numerous ways. For instance, reading a book requires imagination, taking one’s mind to another perspective as an escape as well as continually making the mind creative. Furthermore, reading also allows one to increase in knowledge through vocabulary and other writing skills. Whereas on the other hand, in computer games you are instructed what to do and how to do the required actions, which calls for less imagination or brain activity. In conclusion, computer games are played by adults to relieve stress and detach from reality which although seems beneficial, I believe is not the right aspect for stress relief or an escape from reality as its benefits are minimal. hence, I think it is a negative development.

There is an increasing amount of popularity of computer games among people from different countries and age groups. The majority of parents perceive this negatively as it does not necessarily contribute to children’s academic skills. In my view, I strongly support their outlook as computer games foster introverted character and addictive behaviour which can bring harm to society in the long run.

First of all, playing games on devices decidedly grows an individualistic personality which could impede children from socialising with their peers. As mobile games can be played individually, more and more children are isolating themselves from the outside world. Therefore, parents are concerned that their offspring might lose the ability to communicate with other people.

In addition, children generally become more passive and refuse to leave their sedentary activities. Playing computer games could possibly drive them to be game addicts for they find comfort in before their desktop computers all day. This may put the children at a disadvantage as they are more likely to lack physical activities and have a higher chance of obesity in the future.

To sum up, it is true that computer games are pervasive, yet disadvantageous at the same time for it turns young people to be less sociable and let a passive routine dominate them. I recommend that parents supervise the children when they utilise their devices so they can prevent all the negative effects immediately; also, parents could enact strict regulations regarding a schedule when children can play games and focus on other beneficial activities.

Are Video Games A Hobby?

Is gaming a hobby?

Yes, gaming is a fun and harmless hobby that benefits many. But for some, it may become an unhealthy vice.

So, should video games as a hobby be encouraged or discouraged?

This blog post delves into gaming as a casual hobby versus gaming as an addiction.

Video Games a Hobby or a Senseless Pursuit?

A group of friends playing video games and having fun

Playing video games is one of the most popular hobbies in the world. While we are on this topic, you may wonder, “How popular is gaming as a hobby? What percent of people play video games?”

In 2023, there are over 3.09 billion active video gamers worldwide, with the number set to rise to 3.32 billion by 2024. Additionally, 52% of video game players have at least one gaming service subscription.

Most gamers consider this a relaxing and social hobby that helps them unwind and de-stress. Video games are only one of the many leisure pursuits in life. People who enjoy video games still attend school or work, spend time with family and friends , and do daily chores.

So, is video gaming good or bad?

Advantages of Video Games

Besides being a fun pastime, video games offer many benefits. They provide a safe space to overcome challenges and quests, fail, and learn about resilience. Games can be an escape from mundane lives and allow them to explore alternative identities through immersive worlds and characters.

You can also use gaming to connect with friends and family or make new friends online and offline. Playing video games helps you socialize and stay calm and happy.

Moreover, video games can be excellent learning aids that promote the development of skills like multi-tasking , decision-making , problem-solving , communication, and teamwork . You can use these skills in your career, relationship, and social life to become a well-rounded person. You can also turn your hobby into a career by getting into esports and livestreaming.

Despite the many benefits of video games, people still criticize gaming and gamers.

Criticism Surrounding Gaming

There have been many debates on whether gaming has positive or negative repercussions on players. A 2000 article by the American Psychological Association (APA) stated that their research found that violent video games heightened aggression among gamers. But CNN reported that more recent studies have debunked these claims.

The rising popularity of video games and gaming platforms such as Steam has allowed many small companies and independent creators to carve out niches in the gaming community. Their games usually lie on the opposite end of the spectrum from the “violent video games” that some experts and parents believe harm young players.

That said, enthusiasm for gaming follows a scale that ranges from hobby to addiction, healthy to harmful. Where a gamer is placed on the scale is all about balance.

Gaming: Hobby vs. Addiction

A man and a woman playing video games

Games are generally designed to be addictive, which can harm a gamer’s brain , mood , sleep, vision, and physical health . They may also cause seizures and other health conditions.

Instead of being a fun hobby, games can easily become a destructive compulsion if the scale tips, and they consume all your waking hours. If you start prioritizing gaming over other aspects of your life, your addiction may spiral out of control and damage your well-being.

The Negative Effects of Gaming Addiction

Too much gaming may negatively affect your education, career, relationships, and other favorite activities and interests. Your physical and mental health may deteriorate if you skip meals, neglect exercise, miss sleep, and forgo your personal hygiene routine because you want to keep playing a game.

Many people who suffer from gaming addiction also have poor mental health and experience stress, anxiety, and depression.

Internet gaming disorder also has social implications. Those who once loved playing games with loved ones may try to cover up their addiction and withdraw from social situations, becoming isolated and lonely. It may lead to lost confidence, low self-esteem, and difficulty talking to people in real-life situations.

So, it is crucial to pay attention to your gaming behavior and see if it has transformed from a fun, relaxing hobby to an all-consuming addiction.

Here, we discuss the three-step process of cultivating new habits to help you understand how habits and addictions develop. It will help you understand how gaming leads to addictive behaviors and tackle them effectively.

Three-Step Process of Building New Habits

Developing habits and addictions involves these three steps:

A trigger is the underlying factor of a person’s action. It prompts you to do something like sitting on the couch and watching TV after a long day at school or work or playing a video game whenever you have free time.

An action is an activity or task that leads to a reward.

Rewards are achievements that may take any form. It could be feeling fresh after showering or the satisfaction of reaching the next level in a video game.

Tackling Addictions

Combating addictions involves substituting actions to get a reward with another, more favorable action while leaving the trigger and reward intact. This may be challenging, but there are many ways to ease the process of changing behaviors.

Killing an addiction is a Sisyphean task, so taking it slow and being kind to yourself is essential.

It is best to find a new hobby that can replace gaming. It could be dancing, running, hiking, reading, cooking, etc. Something that will take your focus for extended periods and lead to satisfaction.

Remember that gaming is not a fundamentally bad thing. But when it becomes an all-consuming activity that takes over everything in life, it becomes an addiction. Gaming in moderation is the key to enjoying it fully—and it will not turn into a vice.

Limiting the hours in front of screens and doing healthier activities like meeting people in the real world, exercising, and getting timely sleep and nutrition can help keep your gaming hobby in control.

Wrapping Up

Video games are a legit hobby and a source of happiness for countless people worldwide. They offer a place to escape life’s challenges and daily stress, boost our mood, and enhance relaxation.

But as with every hobby, practicing moderation when playing games is important to stay healthy and productive.

Essays About Video Games: Top 12 Examples and Prompts

Video games have revolutionized the way we have fun today. If you are writing essays about video games, check out our guide to inspire your writing.

Few can contest the fact that video games have taken over the world. From the basic, almost “primitive” games of the 1970s like Pong to the mind-bending virtual reality games of the 2020s, they have been a source of entertainment for all. Moreover, they have proven quite profitable; countries like Japan and the United States have made tens of billions of dollars solely from the video game market.

Despite their popularity, much has been debated over the potentially harmful side effects that video games may have, particularly on children. One side argues that playing certain video games can lead to people exhibiting violence in the future, while others believe that video games teach players essential life skills. Regardless, they will continue to be a part of our lives for the foreseeable future.

2. designers are imagining video games without guns by keith stuart, 3. playing video games all summer won’t make you feel worse by nicole wetsman, 4.  violent video games bad by andrea newman.

Writing Prompts For Essays About Video Games

1. video games: good or bad, 2. the benefits of video games, 3. what is your favorite video game, 4. do video games cause people to become violent, 5. video games in your life, 6. video games vs. traditional games, 7. is the video game rating system enough.

“In other studies, researchers found that gamers who trained on Tetris were better at mentally rotating two-dimensional shapes than those who played a control game. Students who played two hours of All You Can E.T., an educational game designed to enhance the executive function of switching between tasks, improved their focus-shifting skills compared with students who played a word search game.”

Powell explains a few possibilities of applying video games to education. As it turns out, certain video games can improve players’ skills, depending on the mechanics. Researchers are inspired by this and hope to take advantage of the competitive, motivational nature of gaming to encourage children to learn. New games are designed to help kids improve their focus, coordination, and resilience, and game designers hope they will succeed.

“Imagine a game where you’re a war reporter seeking to capture the most iconic, representative images in a battle environment: You’d still get the sense of peril that audiences expect from action adventures, but your relationship with the environment would be more profound. It would be Call of Duty from the perspective of a creative participant rather than a violent interloper.”

The graphic nature of some video games is said to make kids violent, so it is only natural that some creators try to change this. Stuart writes that it is possible to maintain the fun that shooter-type games induce without using guns. He gives examples of games where you do not kill your enemy, simply stunning or capturing them instead. He also suggests photography as an alternative to killing in a “shooting” game. Finally, he suggests basing video games around helping others, making friends, and doing more peaceful, creative tasks.

“Any role video games play in skewing well-being that did pop up in the study was too small to have a real-world impact on how people feel, the authors said. People would have to play games for 10 more hours per day than their baseline to notice changes in their well-being, the study found.”

Wetsman counters the widespread belief that video games “destroy your brain.” Research done with a sample of 39,000 players over six weeks has shown that whether one plays video games for long or short periods, their mental health is not impacted much. There are some exceptions; however, there are not enough to conclude that video games are, in fact, harmful.

“Some people believe that the connection between violent games, and real violence is also fairly intuitive. In playing the games kids are likely to become desensitized to gory images;which could make them less disturbing, and perhaps easier to deal with in real life. While video games aren’t about violence their capacity to teach can be a good thing.”

In her essay, Newman writes about the supposed promotion of violence in some video games. However, she believes this violence does not cause people to be more aggressive later. Instead, she believes these games expose children to certain atrocities so they will not be traumatized if they see them in real life. In addition, these games supposedly promote connections and friendships. Finally, Newman believes that these “harmful” can make you a better person.

5. The health effects of too much gaming by Peter Grinspoon

“Gamers need to be educated on how to protect their thumbs, wrists, and elbows, their waistlines, their emotional state, their sleep, and their eyes. Simple education around taking breaks, stretching, eating healthy snacks, and resting and icing your thumb, wrist, or elbow when it starts hurting can address injuries early, before they become significant. For the eyes, gamers can try the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, try to look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.”

Grinspoon discusses both the benefits and the health risks of gaming. Video games allow people to interact with each other remotely and bond over specific missions or tasks, and some research shows that they have cognitive benefits. However, some gamers may develop vision problems and hand and wrist injuries. Gaming and “staring in front of a screen the whole day” is also associated with obesity. Overall, Grinspoon believes that gaming is best done in moderation.

Many parents believe that their children’s “bad behavior” is because of video games. Based on your experience and others, decide: are video games good or bad for you? Make sure to read viewpoints from both sides and write an essay based on your position. Would you encourage others to play video games? Discuss these pros and cons for an interesting argumentative essay.

Like anything else, video games have both positive and negative aspects. Explain the good that video games can do for you: the skills they can equip you with, the lessons they can teach, and anything else. Also, include whether you believe their benefits outweigh the disadvantages they may pose.

For your essay, write about your favorite video game and why you chose it. What is its meaning to you, and how has it affected your life? Describe the gameplay mechanics, characters, storyline, and general impact on the gaming community or society. You can write about any game you want, even if you have not played it; just ensure the content is sufficient.

Many claim that playing violent video games can make you violent in the future. Research this phenomenon and conclude whether it is true or not. Is the evidence sufficient? There are many resources on this topic; support your argument by citing credible sources, such as news articles, statistics, and scientific research.

Video games have been a part of almost all our lives. Recall a treasured experience with video games and explain why it is significant. How old were you? Why do you remember it fondly? How did this experience make you feel? Answer these questions in your own words for an exciting essay.

Essays About Video Games: Video games vs. Traditional games

There are stark differences between video and traditional games, such as board games and card games. For an engaging essay, compare and contrast them and write about which is more entertaining, in your opinion. Be creative; this should be based on your own opinions and ideas.

The video game content rating system is used to classify video games based on their appropriateness for specific ages. However, parents complain that they are not strict enough and allow the display of violent content to children. Explore the criteria behind the rating system, decide whether it needs to be changed or not, and give examples to support your argument.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • In a nutshell

How to Write an Essay About Your Favorite Game

Essay

Writing an essay is a difficult task, especially if you are writing about your favorite game. Drafting a game essay is not always as easy as you might think. It takes dedication, commitment, and sheer will if you want to pull off the perfect game essay in English. Luckily, we have come up with some best tips.

Brainstorming

When it comes to brainstorming, not many people pay attention to this part of writing an essay. Of course, professional writers always start their work with brainstorming, but teen students nowadays often tend to neglect this crucial part. However, there are many reasons why brainstorming is imperative and inevitable if you want to write the perfect favorite game essay. Think about it. If you do not have the content in your mind, how do you suppose to jot it down in the paper? For instance, let us take an example of a situation. Imagine you are a very athletic person, and you have an interest in several games. After a while, you come down to two topic options. However, you are still unable to decide between basketball or football. So, what do you do in such a situation? Yes! You start brainstorming. Start jotting down the points you have in mind about both the topics and choose whichever you find the most suitable. To make it easy for you, below are written some of the steps which will help you in brainstorming,

  • Start jotting down anything that comes up to your mind about basketball and football.
  • Use the technique of mind-mapping to come up with the essay idea.
  • Once you have the list of potential ideas or topics, start further elimination until you find the right one.

So, brainstorming can be much more beneficial than you think. It can help you ace your essay without any inconvenience. So, the myth about brainstorming being a wastage of time is not true. If anything, brainstorming enables you to save time.

Opt The Desired Type Of Essay

One of the second and most essential parts in initiating the essay on my favorite game is choosing the story’s writing style. Yes! Some of you might not be aware, but there are several styles you can conduct writing an essay. It is imperative that you choose the type according to your desired topic; otherwise, your whole work would be irrelevant, consequently getting rejected by your teachers. Students worldwide struggle with this task, as it is challenging to choose a style and start writing on it. It would also help if you did thorough research, which takes up a significant amount of your time. However, worry no more because, luckily, we have come up with some of the most used and universal essay writing styles. After reading the points below, you would easily pick a style for my favorite game essay.

  • Narrative essay – A narrative essay is mainly used for stories that need a background voice to guide their audience. The narrative essay type is primarily used for biographies and autobiographies. To use it in telling about your favorite game would be a smart move.
  • Persuasive essay – A persuasive essay is pretty much self-explanatory. This style of writing is mainly used to convince someone for something or to request someone for something. You may have seen people using this style for writing letters or doing academic work. So, using this writing style in a favorite game essay would be irrelevant as you do not need to convince anyone.
  • Descriptive essay – An essay with many adjectives and words that describe something is a descriptive essay. Using this style for your favorite game paper would be a wise move as it would keep the reader hooked through the description.
  • Argumentative essay – An argumentative essay style is one of the most commonly used by students. Here, you have to use the kind of language which will support your claim. In addition, it means that you have to be defensive about something throughout the essay.

So, in short, out of all these essay types, it would be better if you used the argumentative, narrative, and descriptive essay style. However, if you are new to this type of writing, you can always find argumentative essays for sale on any topic at EssayZoo.org.

Researching

‘I want to write about my favorite game essay in English. Will you help me?’ A question we all have been asked by our juniors at least once during student life. However, many fail to help them as they are unaware of the main component of writing a perfect game essay. If you are one of these people, do not worry because we are here with the answer, researching! Yes, when it comes to writing about games, researching helps you a lot, even if you know a lot about the topic.

There are two types of teachers, one who lets you decide your own topic, the other who assigns you one. If your teacher is the latter, you have tough luck, as now you would have to start researching from scratch. On the other hand, if your teacher gives you the option of opting for your own topic, you can easily pick the easiest one, something you remember around the back of your head. In such situations, researching can be disadvantageous. For instance, if you have a little time and already know a lot about the topic, then it is suggested that you go on without researching. This will save you a lot of time and resources. Some of the benefits of researching are,

  • Widens your knowledge base
  • You have the updated information
  • Your content is more credible
  • Your scope gets narrow

Creating an Outline

When it comes to writing an essay about your favorite game, an outline is crucial. An outline may not seem as impactful as you think, but in reality, it is the forty percent reason why your essay is good. The outline of your essay is like a road map to your work. Wherever you get off track, you can always track back from where you drifted off.  That is why it is highly significant that you always draft an outline before starting.

Proofreading and Editing

Proofreading is one of the crucial parts if you want to ace your essay about your favorite game. So, to gain an unbiased opinion of your essay, ask anyone but your friends to proofread your work. A teacher would be better because they would tell you about your mistakes from the point of view of an expert.

Essay writing

Writing an essay will always be a daunting task, especially if it is about your favorite game. However, that does not mean that you stop trying after the first few tries. Remember, nothing is perfected overnight; everything takes time. Apart from that, you can always take help from the points mentioned above.

Essay on My Hobby for Students and Children

500+ words essay on my hobby.

Hobbies play a very important role in our lives. They occupy our minds when we are free and also make us happy. Hobbies are our escape from the real world that makes us forget our worries. Moreover, they make our lives interesting and enjoyable. If we look at it, all our hobbies are very useful for us. They teach us a lot of things about different stuff. They also help in expanding our knowledge.

My Favourite Hobby

If I were to pick one favourite hobby of mine out of the many I have, I will definitely pick gardening. I developed a taste for dancing when I was very young. The way my feet moved to the rhythm of the music convinced my parents that I was a born dancer. Dancing is very uplifting as well as economical.

I have always had a love for music and dance. However, I never realized the utter joy they bring to humans. Dancing gives us a lot of exercises. It teaches us to move our body rhythmically and feel the beat of every song. This kind of physical exercise is extremely delightful and enjoyable.

Moreover, dance also taught me how to stay strong and push my limits. I have had many injuries while dancing, too many bruises and cuts but that didn’t stop me from pursuing it further. In fact, it pushes me to do my best and realize my potential more than ever.

I have enrolled in dancing classes because I wish to make my hobby my career. I feel we all should do things which we enjoy doing. Everyone is running after money and in this race, they give up their likings and preferences. I have learned from this race and decided to not take part in it. I wish to take the road less traveled by and take on challenges most people don’t dare to.

In short, my hobby of dancing makes me feel alive and well. It is the only thing I look forward the most to. Thus, I hope to achieve my dream of being a professional dancer and making way for people who wish to make careers out of their hobbies.

My first badminton match was when I was 12 years old. I was taken to the stadium to learn this game, and since then it has become my favorite game. I endeavor to play it rather than go out or playing video games. While playing badminton, we need two rackets and a shuttlecock. The shuttlecock acts like a ball, which is made of feathers appended to a small piece of cork. On the other hand, the badminton rackets are light in weight. Badminton is like tennis; the only difference is that the net is higher and the ball is lighter.

Introduction

Playing games is a vital activity for every human being. It keeps a onefit. Moreover, it keeps people away from all the diseases. Having a physical hobby is essential for every person. Most importantly, a lot of nutritionists and doctors suggest it. Some of the interesting games are cricket, basketball, football, tennis, badminton, etc. My personal favourite game is badminton.

My Favorite Game – Badminton

My favourite hobby is playing badminton, which is a very interesting game, and it always turns my enthusiasm. I started playing badminton when i was 12 and won my first tournament when I was 13. After that, I continued on to win several more matches throughout the years until I was 20 when my career took over. However, I occasionally pick up my racket for informal gatherings with friends.

Although the game was invented because of its integrity, its complexity can never be grasped by even the world’s greatest players. It is the fastest shuttle sport and holds a world record speed at 493km/h, played in a court of 6.1 meters wide and 13.4 meters in height. The time provided to regain a shot hit by a player is down to the milliseconds, and yet, many can regain a shot entirely at the spot the opponent wants the shuttle to go.

As an individual, going through gruesome training for years, the stress one endures when the whole team comes down to winning or losing, is a feeling unimaginable. It has helped me grow remarkably, and I am grateful to my parents for introducing me to this sport. By playing this game, I have learned that losing or failing is not the ultimate goal. It helps me to endure stress psychologically and physically and have a great mindset and a positive perspective.

Badminton Rules

There are some very important rules for playing this game, such as the game starts with a coin toss. Whoever wins the toss gets to choose whether they would receive first or serve first or on what side of the court they want to be. The player cannot touch the net with his racquet or his body during game time. A player should not strike overhead the net to hit the shuttlecock.

The player should not touch any lines of the court, and the shuttlecock should always be struck from below the waist. A point is calculated to a player’s score when the player strikes the shuttlecock, and the opponent misses the hit and falls on the opponent’s side of the court or lands outside the court’s perimeter. The shuttlecock bumping the ceiling is also counted as a fault.

Mental  aspects of the game

Being a badminton player always helped me to stay mentally fit. Almost every badminton player is qualified in the physical aspect but are not strong enough mentally. A badminton player can possess all the robustness, stamina, dexterity and skills but without the ubiquity of mental toughness, they can be stirred mentally anytime or anywhere.

An established badminton player will never go down without a struggle and should be able to maintain their speed and the sharpness of their shots until the very endpoint in the match no matter how long spun they have performed. This is where mental toughness plays a significant role. It has been demonstrated conclusively that motivation helps to transcend in a big platform, which differentiates champions from others. It is the same as the hare and tortoise story, where the motivation to do consistently well was the sole factor that the tortoise followed to beat the hare.

Similarly, it is imperative for us to understand that playing badminton is not a battle and losing in a game is not a sin. We can always wake up the next morning to perform a better game. Therefore a little motivation and some mental toughness can help us play the game competently.

Badminton in India

Despite losing out to lucrative sports like cricket, badminton in India is a broadly watched sport. It is a very popular sport, and its popularity has grown manifold in the past decade. By winning the All India Open in the year 1980 and becoming the number one ranked player in the world, Prakash Padukone started a rich legacy for Indian badminton. He was followed by Punnela Gopichand when he won the same championship in the year 2001.

The women Athletes led the Indian badminton triumph journey in the 21st century. Saina Nehwal is the first women badminton player from India to ascend to the number one ranking. She also became the first-ever Indian Player to win an Olympic Medal in London Olympics 2012. Saina Nehwal was succeeded by P. V Sindhu who became the first Badminton player in India to feature in the Olympic Final. She also became the first Indian to win the world championship in 2019 Basel. All of this makes me overjoyed and heightens my interest in this beautiful game in which my country has been consistently doing better.
