The Person You Would Like To Meet (Essay Sample) 2023

Table of Contents

Introduction

Is there one person in the world, among many amazing people, who you would most like to meet? We all have that fantasy list of people, alive or not, that we wish we could see in person. These people inspire us with their lives and their works.

The essay below discusses the author’s love for Mark Twain and delves deep into why we find ourselves looking up to renowned individuals.

If there was someone popular with a great legacy that you would want to be able to see and talk to in person, does someone immediately come to mind? If you’d like to write an essay on this topic, explore our website for great essay writing services .

A Famous Person I Would Like to Meet Essay

At any point in our lives, we all have this one person that we dream of encountering. Whether celebrity, national hero, world-renowned artist, a mark-making political bigwig, or a character from a book, we have our own reasons why we want to see them.

Recently, I’ve had some time to ruminate on individuals that I really look up to. I’ve come to the conclusion that if I could connect to one person from my list, it would be Mark Twain.

Mark Twain was known by the world through his moniker Samuel Langhorne Clements. He was a world-famous American writer, lecturer, and yes, even inventor. In terms of his literary works, he was well-known for his stunning pieces, “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” “Adventures of Huckleberry Fin,” “Roughing It,” and more.

As a writer, Twain was well-known for his creative and cunning portrayal of social issues related to American society and the American people. His works boast of a witty and entertaining commentary on everyday life in America – but written as an adventure of different types of people.

While he regretfully passed away in 1835, his impact on American literature and different worldviews remain strong to this day. Together with the rest of his fans, I am grateful for his life.

Essay Writing

Why This Famous Person?

There are a lot of reasons why we want to meet a distinguished person. We could be idolizing them for their important contributions to the world, in their field of expertise. We could want to meet them because of a past acquaintance. We could be missing that person. Whatever purpose we have, the ultimate end game is that we want to meet that person and connect with them in real life.

Some of us are fortunate enough to have people who are still alive on our list. That means there is still the possibility of connecting with them. However, if the person is no longer with us, then the dream is just wishful thinking. I belong to the second category since the individual I want to see is no longer alive.

I don’t want to meet Mark Twain because he was famous. I honestly just want to ask him so many questions because his works have enriched my life, which adds to why I want to meet him. His works were, and still are, notable examples of how an individual can influence the world without resorting to any form of violence.

He had a talent for crafting great pieces of work and he shared that talent with the world through his novels. He was brilliant in the way he integrated his experiences and views in his works. He did this so well that they became crucial elements of the adventure yet are not the focus. He was able to disguise his views through his fictional characters and places.

I think that if Mark Twain was still alive today, the world would be graced with more works of art. His works are breathtaking, and I applaud him for a job very well done.

However, he is no longer here. Hence, my dream remains part of a bucket list that will remain unaccomplished. He may not be around any longer, but I feel and know that his influence in the world is something present and future generations can learn from and appreciate.

Do you have one famous person you have always wished you could get the chance to see? Whether or not they are alive today, these are the people who have been a role model to us, one way or another. We could have been inspired by his personal life or deeply touched by a talk that he did. We could look up to the way he made history or made money.

Regardless of our reason for liking them, the most important thing about admiring someone up close or from afar is that we go through life inspired. We see how they add value to the world and we are motivated to make our own mark on humanity. I hope your favorite person causes you to follow your passion and be the best version of yourself.

A Famous Person You Would Like To Meet Essay

There are plenty of admirable people around the world who I would love to encounter. But who do I really want to meet? I finally have an answer. The person I want to meet is author Mark Twain.

More than his obviously-impressive repertoire of literary works, I love Mark Twain for his boldness in infusing his perspectives and worldviews into his books. For me, a well-established writer is someone who has the ability to influence others through the message of his books. The fact that he uses his written works not just for his own pleasure but to be heard explains his fame. Very few authors write for reasons other than an itch to write a story that’s been in their heads for years.

I resonate a lot with Mark Twain’s worldviews, which is why I feel that he has personally made an impact on my life, even without meeting him. Sadly, I will never actually get to meet him since he already passed away. But his legacy lives on in his work and in the lives of people like mine who appreciate and embrace his significant contributions to the world.

Who Are Four Person You Would Like To Meet?

There are plenty of people on our bucket list for unique and meaningful reasons, but four people on that list are actress Drew Barrymore, singer Ed Sheeran, entrepreneur, and inspirational speaker Simon Sinek, and businessman and Shark Tank personality Mark Cuban. We would love to meet Drew Barrymore because she is one of very few Hollywood child actresses who remain relevant today. We want to know how she weathered the tougher moments of adolescence without them ruining her career. We also want to meet Ed Sheeran because his story from singing in pubs to becoming an international singing sensation is extraordinary. Simon Sinek is on our list because he has revolutionary views on maximizing the potential of people by aligning their personal purposes to the goals of the organization. Finally, Mark Cuban is legendary for his business acquisitions and smart insights on pitches on Shark Tank.

How To Explain Why You Would Choose That Person?

As you choose people to write about in your essay, it is good to reflect and identify what it is about that person you admire so much. For some, it could be their personal lives; for others, their work; and for some, their perspectives and values. Once you have identified these reasons, be specific as you discuss them in your article. You may also cite examples that prove your point. You can include questions you would want to ask if you got to see them.

How to Write an Essay About a Famous Person in History

Last Updated: December 13, 2022 Fact Checked

There are lots of things to think about when writing a paper about a famous person from history. Your teacher may have given you this assignment with exact instructions on who to write about and what information to include, or they may have just asked you to write about someone from history that you admire without telling you exactly what information to include. When writing the essay, take your time and rely on good information that you have collected from books and respected internet resources. Don’t underestimate the time you will need to edit your essay in order to have a final product that you can feel proud of.

Preparing to Write Your Essay

Step 1 Read the assignment carefully.

  • Should you choose your person or has one been assigned?
  • Does your teacher want you to use a citation style? For example, they may want you to use the MLA format or maybe they want you to use Chicago Style. [1] X Research source If your teacher says they don't care, then there's nothing to worry about, but make sure that you include a “References” page at the end of your essay. On this page, you should include all of the different websites, books, and/or magazines that you used to write the essay.
  • Is there a word limit? Does your teacher require a specific font or font size? Should you double-space the essay? If you're not sure, ask you teacher.

Step 2 Choose a person that did a lot in their life.

  • Try to think about the things you know the person has done. Did they live a pretty normal life, but did one really cool thing? A person who was more or less “normal” could be harder to write about if your teacher wants a ten page essay. For example, although Adolf Hitler was not in any way an admirable human being, writing a historical essay about his life would be pretty easy because he did a lot of different things.
  • On the other hand, if there is a historical figure you are really interested in, you will have a good time researching and writing about your person whether they led very busy lives or not. The most important thing is to choose someone you find fascinating. Try making a list of your hobbies and interests and then run a Google search to find famous people who also had one of these hobbies or interests.
  • 3 Brainstorm a list of questions. Write down all of the questions you want to answer about your person. If your teacher told you what questions to answer, then use those. If your teacher did not, then this is up to you. Make sure you talk about when and where they were born, whether they had a good childhood or not, what makes them special and interesting, what they accomplished (whether good or bad), and why you find them interesting. [2] X Trustworthy Source University of North Carolina Writing Center UNC's on-campus and online instructional service that provides assistance to students, faculty, and others during the writing process Go to source

Step 4 Research the questions you want to answer in your essay.

  • Write down anything you find interesting and want to include. At the same time that you do this, write down the source of that information. For example, the name and author of the book or the address of the website.
  • If you are having a hard time finding information about your person in the library, ask the librarian to help you search. They’re there to help you, and may have ways of finding information that you hadn’t thought of. Plus, if you find the information through the library, there is a better chance that you will find high quality information.
  • Make sure that you understand what is considered an acceptable source of information by your teacher. For example, some teachers may consider it OK to use websites such as Wikipedia, while other teachers may not. If you’re not sure, just ask them.
  • Try to include at least one primary source that was written by the person you are researching, such as a letter, journal entry, or speech. This will help you get to know the person better than you would by only using secondary sources, such as articles and textbooks.

Step 5 Outline your essay.

  • Write your outline so that the information is in the same order that it will be in in the paper. For example, don't put questions about how the person died before the questions about where they were born and who their parents were.

Step 6 Review other essays.

  • Don’t plagiarize though! If you copy someone else's work without giving them credit for their work, this is called plagiarism. If you do find something interesting that you want to include, be sure to give credit to that person. Plagiarism is a big deal, so it’s best to learn early that it isn’t worth the risk.

Writing the Essay

Step 1 Start with the body of the essay.

  • In the body, you will write about all of the information that you found when you were researching. It is the part of the paper where you answer any and all questions you have come up with.
  • Your essay will be more clear if you separate different parts of this person’s life into paragraphs. For example, the first paragraph might start out by explaining when, where, and to whom this person was born. In this paragraph you might talk about what kind of childhood this person had, and whether they had any big experiences that made them into the person they were.
  • In later paragraphs, you can talk about what the person did that made them famous. You might also want to include interesting things that you found about this person’s personal life. For example, whether or not they got married or whether or not they suffered from any mental disorders.

Step 2 Write the conclusion.

  • Don't write more than one or two paragraphs for your conclusion. It should simply go over what you have written in the body about who this person was and why they were interesting and important.
  • For example, you might write, “In summary, Martin Luther King Jr. was a driven man who, although his life was tragically cut short, accomplished amazing things in his life. Though his upbringing presented many challenges, he went on to become a great man who wasn’t afraid to stand up for what he believed in.”
  • In the next paragraph, you can summarize what you wrote about why you find him so interesting. For example, “This great man inspires me every time I read about him. I hope that I too can stand up for the right thing if I am ever in a position to do so, even if it is difficult or scary to do so.”

Step 3 Finish your first draft by writing the introduction.

  • For example, you can say, “In this essay, I will be discussing a man that nearly everyone has heard of. He was a minister who became famous during the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s for standing up for the rights of not only African Americans, but for all human beings.”
  • After you introduce your person, you will state what you will be telling your reader about this person. For example, “In this essay, Martin Luther King Jr.’s life will be discussed beginning with his birth in Georgia, to his travels to Germany where he officially began to be known as ‘Martin,’ to his untimely death in 1968.”
  • Don’t give everything away in the introduction. Think of the introduction like a movie preview. You want to give enough information to get the reader interested, but not so much information that they will already know everything else written in the essay before they read it.

Step 4 Write a second draft.

  • Don’t expect the second draft to come out perfectly either. The purpose of the second draft is to fix up any major spelling mistakes or grammar errors, and to see how you feel about the information you’ve written now that it’s all out there.
  • A second draft is what you will give to anyone who has offered to proof read your essay, so make sure that it is easy to read. It is best to have this version typed and double-spaced so it will be easy for whoever is helping you to make notes on things you can improve in your final draft.

Editing Your Essay

Step 1 Ask someone to proofread your essay.

  • For example, a good proofreader might point out to you that your paragraph about the death of your person might be better if you put it before your paragraph which talks about the legacy this person left behind.
  • Try asking a classmate to read your essay. It's a win-win for both of you because you can offer to read their essay in return. Meet up a few days after reading to talk about errors and ways to make each of your papers better.
  • If the person has done a good job, they may have a lot of things to say about your paper. Try not to take anything bad they say about your paper personally. They're not trying to make you feel bad, they just want to help you get a good grade.
  • Give them a physical copy of the paper that is double-spaced. This will make it easy for them to make corrections and write notes on your paper.

Step 2 Proofread the essay on your own.

  • Make notes as you read in a bright colored pen on a physical copy of your paper.
  • Read your paper twice. The first time, focus on what you've written, and don't look for spelling mistakes or other grammar errors. While you're reading think about whether it is easy to follow and whether or not it makes sense. This will be the time to consider rearranging any information, adding anything extra, or removing anything that doesn't seem important.
  • Read through the article a second time to check for grammar and spelling issues. Mark any misspelled words or typos, and make a note of any awkward sentences that you want to go back and change.

Step 3 Read the essay backwards.

  • You should also read the essay out loud. Reading the essay out loud will help you find sentences that sound strange.

Step 4 Type your final draft.

  • Make sure to follow any instructions your teacher has given you about how to format the document. For example, with regard to font, font size, and line spacing.
  • By now, you should feel confident that you have a well-written paper. If you still feel unsure, you can ask a different person to read your essay to reassure yourself that you have caught any mistakes.
  • If your teacher said they don’t care about the formatting, then stick to the defaults of your word processing program. Generally, it is a good idea to stick to font size 12 and a standard font such as Times New Roman. To make your paper easier to read, consider changing the line spacing to 1.5 or 2, unless your teacher has said not to do this.
  • Your teacher probably expects you to turn in a typed copy of your essay. Unless your teacher has specifically asked for handwritten papers make sure you turn in a neat, typed copy.

How to Write an Essay About a Famous Person

Paper4college.com

Probably you have already been asked to write a paper about a person you like and admire. You can choose anyone from your relatives and friends to famous inspirational people, who are well-known in the whole world. It is a difficult choice, but the success of your essay depends on it. Are there any effective ways of creating such a paper? This article is focused on the issue of creating an essay about a famous person, who inspires you. You can find several cool and effective pieces of advice below.

Learn Some Facts from the Biography

It is crucial to be aware of some important facts from the biography of this person. They will become the core of your essay. At the same time, it is essential to avoid making your text focused only on these biography statements. Try to rethink them and choose only the most important and amusing moments. Your essay should be creative first of all. Thus, it is essential not to simply write down the biography but to explain the reasons why you like this person and which life stories exactly make you feel inspired. In addition, it is important to use only reliable and trustworthy sources while writing your essay. If you pay attention to the false facts in the person’s biography, you will definitely experience some failures.

Pay Attention to the Interviews

You will never get enough information from the newspapers or Internet websites. Very often, these sources include false facts and wrong statements, which can make your essay sound unreliable and poor. It is a pretty good idea to use the interviews of this person instead of other sources. You will get the best information. Moreover, it is a nice way to reveal some hidden facts about this person. Often, such interviews include inspirational sayings, which you can put down in the essay.

Find Out Why You Like Him or Her

It is essential to give the broad explanation why you like a particular person. There may be some life situations where he or she has been acting rightly. On the other hand, it is important to think about these things and understand how the life story of this person has influenced you. Maybe, you have become braver or smarter. Try to make this part of your essay dominating.

Stay Creative and Write Extraordinarily

Do not fill your essays with unimportant or boring facts. It is much better to choose some unusual things and make your reader interested in such a way. Remember that it may be not that easy to find out such facts. Now that you know what makes a great descriptive essay about a person , it’s time to start writing. Here are some steps that will help you create an effective and engaging essay:

1. Choose a Person You Admire:

Select someone who has impacted your life in a special way, or someone whose qualities you admire greatly. Look for role models in your life. In addition, it is important to choose someone you have enough information.

2. Research the Person Thoroughly:

Before you begin writing, make sure you have enough information about the person. You can research by talking to people who know the person well, or reading books and articles written about them.

3. Create an Outline:

This helps keep your essay organized and focused. You can use the basic structure of an essay with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion as a guide. So make sure you include all of the important points in your outline.

4. Use Vivid Language and Imagery:

Describe anything that stands out about the person, such as their physical appearance and mannerisms. Use powerful adjectives to give life to your essay and make it more interesting for your readers.

5. Include Relevant Examples:

Using real-life examples adds depth and texture to your essay. These can be anything from stories of when you met the person or a unique trait that they possess. Examples will also help make your essay more illustrative and descriptive.

6. Write an Effective Conclusion:

Your conclusion should serve as a summary of all the points you have discussed in your essay. Make sure to end on a positive note and provide your readers with a lasting impression of your subject’s character.

The 10 Best Essay Collections of the Decade

Ever tried. ever failed. no matter..

Friends, it’s true: the end of the decade approaches. It’s been a difficult, anxiety-provoking, morally compromised decade, but at least it’s been populated by some damn fine literature. We’ll take our silver linings where we can.

So, as is our hallowed duty as a literary and culture website—though with full awareness of the potentially fruitless and endlessly contestable nature of the task—in the coming weeks, we’ll be taking a look at the best and most important (these being not always the same) books of the decade that was. We will do this, of course, by means of a variety of lists. We began with the best debut novels , the best short story collections , the best poetry collections , and the best memoirs of the decade , and we have now reached the fifth list in our series: the best essay collections published in English between 2010 and 2019.

The following books were chosen after much debate (and several rounds of voting) by the Literary Hub staff. Tears were spilled, feelings were hurt, books were re-read. And as you’ll shortly see, we had a hard time choosing just ten—so we’ve also included a list of dissenting opinions, and an even longer list of also-rans. As ever, free to add any of your own favorites that we’ve missed in the comments below.

The Top Ten

Oliver sacks, the mind’s eye (2010).

Toward the end of his life, maybe suspecting or sensing that it was coming to a close, Dr. Oliver Sacks tended to focus his efforts on sweeping intellectual projects like On the Move (a memoir), The River of Consciousness (a hybrid intellectual history), and Hallucinations (a book-length meditation on, what else, hallucinations). But in 2010, he gave us one more classic in the style that first made him famous, a form he revolutionized and brought into the contemporary literary canon: the medical case study as essay. In The Mind’s Eye , Sacks focuses on vision, expanding the notion to embrace not only how we see the world, but also how we map that world onto our brains when our eyes are closed and we’re communing with the deeper recesses of consciousness. Relaying histories of patients and public figures, as well as his own history of ocular cancer (the condition that would eventually spread and contribute to his death), Sacks uses vision as a lens through which to see all of what makes us human, what binds us together, and what keeps us painfully apart. The essays that make up this collection are quintessential Sacks: sensitive, searching, with an expertise that conveys scientific information and experimentation in terms we can not only comprehend, but which also expand how we see life carrying on around us. The case studies of “Stereo Sue,” of the concert pianist Lillian Kalir, and of Howard, the mystery novelist who can no longer read, are highlights of the collection, but each essay is a kind of gem, mined and polished by one of the great storytellers of our era.  –Dwyer Murphy, CrimeReads Managing Editor

John Jeremiah Sullivan, Pulphead (2011)

The American essay was having a moment at the beginning of the decade, and Pulphead was smack in the middle. Without any hard data, I can tell you that this collection of John Jeremiah Sullivan’s magazine features—published primarily in GQ , but also in The Paris Review , and Harper’s —was the only full book of essays most of my literary friends had read since Slouching Towards Bethlehem , and probably one of the only full books of essays they had even heard of.

Well, we all picked a good one. Every essay in Pulphead is brilliant and entertaining, and illuminates some small corner of the American experience—even if it’s just one house, with Sullivan and an aging writer inside (“Mr. Lytle” is in fact a standout in a collection with no filler; fittingly, it won a National Magazine Award and a Pushcart Prize). But what are they about? Oh, Axl Rose, Christian Rock festivals, living around the filming of One Tree Hill , the Tea Party movement, Michael Jackson, Bunny Wailer, the influence of animals, and by god, the Miz (of Real World/Road Rules Challenge fame).

But as Dan Kois has pointed out , what connects these essays, apart from their general tone and excellence, is “their author’s essential curiosity about the world, his eye for the perfect detail, and his great good humor in revealing both his subjects’ and his own foibles.” They are also extremely well written, drawing much from fictional techniques and sentence craft, their literary pleasures so acute and remarkable that James Wood began his review of the collection in The New Yorker with a quiz: “Are the following sentences the beginnings of essays or of short stories?” (It was not a hard quiz, considering the context.)

It’s hard not to feel, reading this collection, like someone reached into your brain, took out the half-baked stuff you talk about with your friends, researched it, lived it, and represented it to you smarter and better and more thoroughly than you ever could. So read it in awe if you must, but read it.  –Emily Temple, Senior Editor

Aleksandar Hemon, The Book of My Lives (2013)

Such is the sentence-level virtuosity of Aleksandar Hemon—the Bosnian-American writer, essayist, and critic—that throughout his career he has frequently been compared to the granddaddy of borrowed language prose stylists: Vladimir Nabokov. While it is, of course, objectively remarkable that anyone could write so beautifully in a language they learned in their twenties, what I admire most about Hemon’s work is the way in which he infuses every essay and story and novel with both a deep humanity and a controlled (but never subdued) fury. He can also be damn funny. Hemon grew up in Sarajevo and left in 1992 to study in Chicago, where he almost immediately found himself stranded, forced to watch from afar as his beloved home city was subjected to a relentless four-year bombardment, the longest siege of a capital in the history of modern warfare. This extraordinary memoir-in-essays is many things: it’s a love letter to both the family that raised him and the family he built in exile; it’s a rich, joyous, and complex portrait of a place the 90s made synonymous with war and devastation; and it’s an elegy for the wrenching loss of precious things. There’s an essay about coming of age in Sarajevo and another about why he can’t bring himself to leave Chicago. There are stories about relationships forged and maintained on the soccer pitch or over the chessboard, and stories about neighbors and mentors turned monstrous by ethnic prejudice. As a chorus they sing with insight, wry humor, and unimaginable sorrow. I am not exaggerating when I say that the collection’s devastating final piece, “The Aquarium”—which details his infant daughter’s brain tumor and the agonizing months which led up to her death—remains the most painful essay I have ever read.  –Dan Sheehan, Book Marks Editor

Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass (2013)

Of every essay in my relentlessly earmarked copy of Braiding Sweetgrass , Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer’s gorgeously rendered argument for why and how we should keep going, there’s one that especially hits home: her account of professor-turned-forester Franz Dolp. When Dolp, several decades ago, revisited the farm that he had once shared with his ex-wife, he found a scene of destruction: The farm’s new owners had razed the land where he had tried to build a life. “I sat among the stumps and the swirling red dust and I cried,” he wrote in his journal.

So many in my generation (and younger) feel this kind of helplessness–and considerable rage–at finding ourselves newly adult in a world where those in power seem determined to abandon or destroy everything that human bodies have always needed to survive: air, water, land. Asking any single book to speak to this helplessness feels unfair, somehow; yet, Braiding Sweetgrass does, by weaving descriptions of indigenous tradition with the environmental sciences in order to show what survival has looked like over the course of many millennia. Kimmerer’s essays describe her personal experience as a Potawotami woman, plant ecologist, and teacher alongside stories of the many ways that humans have lived in relationship to other species. Whether describing Dolp’s work–he left the stumps for a life of forest restoration on the Oregon coast–or the work of others in maple sugar harvesting, creating black ash baskets, or planting a Three Sisters garden of corn, beans, and squash, she brings hope. “In ripe ears and swelling fruit, they counsel us that all gifts are multiplied in relationship,” she writes of the Three Sisters, which all sustain one another as they grow. “This is how the world keeps going.”  –Corinne Segal, Senior Editor

Hilton Als, White Girls (2013)

In a world where we are so often reduced to one essential self, Hilton Als’ breathtaking book of critical essays, White Girls , which meditates on the ways he and other subjects read, project and absorb parts of white femininity, is a radically liberating book. It’s one of the only works of critical thinking that doesn’t ask the reader, its author or anyone he writes about to stoop before the doorframe of complete legibility before entering. Something he also permitted the subjects and readers of his first book, the glorious book-length essay, The Women , a series of riffs and psychological portraits of Dorothy Dean, Owen Dodson, and the author’s own mother, among others. One of the shifts of that book, uncommon at the time, was how it acknowledges the way we inhabit bodies made up of variously gendered influences. To read White Girls now is to experience the utter freedom of this gift and to marvel at Als’ tremendous versatility and intelligence.

He is easily the most diversely talented American critic alive. He can write into genres like pop music and film where being part of an audience is a fantasy happening in the dark. He’s also wired enough to know how the art world builds reputations on the nod of rich white patrons, a significant collision in a time when Jean-Michel Basquiat is America’s most expensive modern artist. Als’ swerving and always moving grip on performance means he’s especially good on describing the effect of art which is volatile and unstable and built on the mingling of made-up concepts and the hard fact of their effect on behavior, such as race. Writing on Flannery O’Connor for instance he alone puts a finger on her “uneasy and unavoidable union between black and white, the sacred and the profane, the shit and the stars.” From Eminem to Richard Pryor, André Leon Talley to Michael Jackson, Als enters the life and work of numerous artists here who turn the fascinations of race and with whiteness into fury and song and describes the complexity of their beauty like his life depended upon it. There are also brief memoirs here that will stop your heart. This is an essential work to understanding American culture.  –John Freeman, Executive Editor

Eula Biss, On Immunity (2014)

We move through the world as if we can protect ourselves from its myriad dangers, exercising what little agency we have in an effort to keep at bay those fears that gather at the edges of any given life: of loss, illness, disaster, death. It is these fears—amplified by the birth of her first child—that Eula Biss confronts in her essential 2014 essay collection, On Immunity . As any great essayist does, Biss moves outward in concentric circles from her own very private view of the world to reveal wider truths, discovering as she does a culture consumed by anxiety at the pervasive toxicity of contemporary life. As Biss interrogates this culture—of privilege, of whiteness—she interrogates herself, questioning the flimsy ways in which we arm ourselves with science or superstition against the impurities of daily existence.

Five years on from its publication, it is dismaying that On Immunity feels as urgent (and necessary) a defense of basic science as ever. Vaccination, we learn, is derived from vacca —for cow—after the 17th-century discovery that a small application of cowpox was often enough to inoculate against the scourge of smallpox, an etymological digression that belies modern conspiratorial fears of Big Pharma and its vaccination agenda. But Biss never scolds or belittles the fears of others, and in her generosity and openness pulls off a neat (and important) trick: insofar as we are of the very world we fear, she seems to be suggesting, we ourselves are impure, have always been so, permeable, vulnerable, yet so much stronger than we think.  –Jonny Diamond, Editor-in-Chief

Rebecca Solnit, The Mother of All Questions (2016)

When Rebecca Solnit’s essay, “Men Explain Things to Me,” was published in 2008, it quickly became a cultural phenomenon unlike almost any other in recent memory, assigning language to a behavior that almost every woman has witnessed—mansplaining—and, in the course of identifying that behavior, spurring a movement, online and offline, to share the ways in which patriarchal arrogance has intersected all our lives. (It would also come to be the titular essay in her collection published in 2014.) The Mother of All Questions follows up on that work and takes it further in order to examine the nature of self-expression—who is afforded it and denied it, what institutions have been put in place to limit it, and what happens when it is employed by women. Solnit has a singular gift for describing and decoding the misogynistic dynamics that govern the world so universally that they can seem invisible and the gendered violence that is so common as to seem unremarkable; this naming is powerful, and it opens space for sharing the stories that shape our lives.

The Mother of All Questions, comprised of essays written between 2014 and 2016, in many ways armed us with some of the tools necessary to survive the gaslighting of the Trump years, in which many of us—and especially women—have continued to hear from those in power that the things we see and hear do not exist and never existed. Solnit also acknowledges that labels like “woman,” and other gendered labels, are identities that are fluid in reality; in reviewing the book for The New Yorker , Moira Donegan suggested that, “One useful working definition of a woman might be ‘someone who experiences misogyny.'” Whichever words we use, Solnit writes in the introduction to the book that “when words break through unspeakability, what was tolerated by a society sometimes becomes intolerable.” This storytelling work has always been vital; it continues to be vital, and in this book, it is brilliantly done.  –Corinne Segal, Senior Editor

Valeria Luiselli, Tell Me How It Ends (2017)

The newly minted MacArthur fellow Valeria Luiselli’s four-part (but really six-part) essay  Tell Me How It Ends: An Essay in Forty Questions  was inspired by her time spent volunteering at the federal immigration court in New York City, working as an interpreter for undocumented, unaccompanied migrant children who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border. Written concurrently with her novel  Lost Children Archive  (a fictional exploration of the same topic), Luiselli’s essay offers a fascinating conceit, the fashioning of an argument from the questions on the government intake form given to these children to process their arrivals. (Aside from the fact that this essay is a heartbreaking masterpiece, this is such a  good  conceit—transforming a cold, reproducible administrative document into highly personal literature.) Luiselli interweaves a grounded discussion of the questionnaire with a narrative of the road trip Luiselli takes with her husband and family, across America, while they (both Mexican citizens) wait for their own Green Card applications to be processed. It is on this trip when Luiselli reflects on the thousands of migrant children mysteriously traveling across the border by themselves. But the real point of the essay is to actually delve into the real stories of some of these children, which are agonizing, as well as to gravely, clearly expose what literally happens, procedural, when they do arrive—from forms to courts, as they’re swallowed by a bureaucratic vortex. Amid all of this, Luiselli also takes on more, exploring the larger contextual relationship between the United States of America and Mexico (as well as other countries in Central America, more broadly) as it has evolved to our current, adverse moment.  Tell Me How It Ends  is so small, but it is so passionate and vigorous: it desperately accomplishes in its less-than-100-pages-of-prose what centuries and miles and endless records of federal bureaucracy have never been able, and have never cared, to do: reverse the dehumanization of Latin American immigrants that occurs once they set foot in this country.  –Olivia Rutigliano, CrimeReads Editorial Fellow

Zadie Smith, Feel Free (2018)

In the essay “Meet Justin Bieber!” in Feel Free , Zadie Smith writes that her interest in Justin Bieber is not an interest in the interiority of the singer himself, but in “the idea of the love object”. This essay—in which Smith imagines a meeting between Bieber and the late philosopher Martin Buber (“Bieber and Buber are alternative spellings of the same German surname,” she explains in one of many winning footnotes. “Who am I to ignore these hints from the universe?”). Smith allows that this premise is a bit premise -y: “I know, I know.” Still, the resulting essay is a very funny, very smart, and un-tricky exploration of individuality and true “meeting,” with a dash of late capitalism thrown in for good measure. The melding of high and low culture is the bread and butter of pretty much every prestige publication on the internet these days (and certainly of the Twitter feeds of all “public intellectuals”), but the essays in Smith’s collection don’t feel familiar—perhaps because hers is, as we’ve long known, an uncommon skill. Though I believe Smith could probably write compellingly about anything, she chooses her subjects wisely. She writes with as much electricity about Brexit as the aforementioned Beliebers—and each essay is utterly engrossing. “She contains multitudes, but her point is we all do,” writes Hermione Hoby in her review of the collection in The New Republic . “At the same time, we are, in our endless difference, nobody but ourselves.”  –Jessie Gaynor, Social Media Editor

Tressie McMillan Cottom, Thick: And Other Essays (2019)

Tressie McMillan Cottom is an academic who has transcended the ivory tower to become the sort of public intellectual who can easily appear on radio or television talk shows to discuss race, gender, and capitalism. Her collection of essays reflects this duality, blending scholarly work with memoir to create a collection on the black female experience in postmodern America that’s “intersectional analysis with a side of pop culture.” The essays range from an analysis of sexual violence, to populist politics, to social media, but in centering her own experiences throughout, the collection becomes something unlike other pieces of criticism of contemporary culture. In explaining the title, she reflects on what an editor had said about her work: “I was too readable to be academic, too deep to be popular, too country black to be literary, and too naïve to show the rigor of my thinking in the complexity of my prose. I had wanted to create something meaningful that sounded not only like me, but like all of me. It was too thick.” One of the most powerful essays in the book is “Dying to be Competent” which begins with her unpacking the idiocy of LinkedIn (and the myth of meritocracy) and ends with a description of her miscarriage, the mishandling of black woman’s pain, and a condemnation of healthcare bureaucracy. A finalist for the 2019 National Book Award for Nonfiction, Thick confirms McMillan Cottom as one of our most fearless public intellectuals and one of the most vital.  –Emily Firetog, Deputy Editor

Dissenting Opinions

The following books were just barely nudged out of the top ten, but we (or at least one of us) couldn’t let them pass without comment.

Elif Batuman, The Possessed (2010)

In The Possessed Elif Batuman indulges her love of Russian literature and the result is hilarious and remarkable. Each essay of the collection chronicles some adventure or other that she had while in graduate school for Comparative Literature and each is more unpredictable than the next. There’s the time a “well-known 20th-centuryist” gave a graduate student the finger; and the time when Batuman ended up living in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, for a summer; and the time that she convinced herself Tolstoy was murdered and spent the length of the Tolstoy Conference in Yasnaya Polyana considering clues and motives. Rich in historic detail about Russian authors and literature and thoughtfully constructed, each essay is an amalgam of critical analysis, cultural criticism, and serious contemplation of big ideas like that of identity, intellectual legacy, and authorship. With wit and a serpentine-like shape to her narratives, Batuman adopts a form reminiscent of a Socratic discourse, setting up questions at the beginning of her essays and then following digressions that more or less entreat the reader to synthesize the answer for herself. The digressions are always amusing and arguably the backbone of the collection, relaying absurd anecdotes with foreign scholars or awkward, surreal encounters with Eastern European strangers. Central also to the collection are Batuman’s intellectual asides where she entertains a theory—like the “problem of the person”: the inability to ever wholly capture one’s character—that ultimately layer the book’s themes. “You are certainly my most entertaining student,” a professor said to Batuman. But she is also curious and enthusiastic and reflective and so knowledgeable that she might even convince you (she has me!) that you too love Russian literature as much as she does. –Eleni Theodoropoulos, Editorial Fellow

Roxane Gay, Bad Feminist (2014)

Roxane Gay’s now-classic essay collection is a book that will make you laugh, think, cry, and then wonder, how can cultural criticism be this fun? My favorite essays in the book include Gay’s musings on competitive Scrabble, her stranded-in-academia dispatches, and her joyous film and television criticism, but given the breadth of topics Roxane Gay can discuss in an entertaining manner, there’s something for everyone in this one. This book is accessible because feminism itself should be accessible – Roxane Gay is as likely to draw inspiration from YA novels, or middle-brow shows about friendship, as she is to introduce concepts from the academic world, and if there’s anyone I trust to bridge the gap between high culture, low culture, and pop culture, it’s the Goddess of Twitter. I used to host a book club dedicated to radical reads, and this was one of the first picks for the club; a week after the book club met, I spied a few of the attendees meeting in the café of the bookstore, and found out that they had bonded so much over discussing  Bad Feminist  that they couldn’t wait for the next meeting of the book club to keep discussing politics and intersectionality, and that, in a nutshell, is the power of Roxane. –Molly Odintz, CrimeReads Associate Editor

Rivka Galchen, Little Labors (2016)

Generally, I find stories about the trials and tribulations of child-having to be of limited appeal—useful, maybe, insofar as they offer validation that other people have also endured the bizarre realities of living with a tiny human, but otherwise liable to drift into the musings of parents thrilled at the simple fact of their own fecundity, as if they were the first ones to figure the process out (or not). But Little Labors is not simply an essay collection about motherhood, perhaps because Galchen initially “didn’t want to write about” her new baby—mostly, she writes, “because I had never been interested in babies, or mothers; in fact, those subjects had seemed perfectly not interesting to me.” Like many new mothers, though, Galchen soon discovered her baby—which she refers to sometimes as “the puma”—to be a preoccupying thought, demanding to be written about. Galchen’s interest isn’t just in her own progeny, but in babies in literature (“Literature has more dogs than babies, and also more abortions”), The Pillow Book , the eleventh-century collection of musings by Sei Shōnagon, and writers who are mothers. There are sections that made me laugh out loud, like when Galchen continually finds herself in an elevator with a neighbor who never fails to remark on the puma’s size. There are also deeper, darker musings, like the realization that the baby means “that it’s not permissible to die. There are days when this does not feel good.” It is a slim collection that I happened to read at the perfect time, and it remains one of my favorites of the decade. –Emily Firetog, Deputy Editor

Charlie Fox, This Young Monster (2017)

On social media as in his writing, British art critic Charlie Fox rejects lucidity for allusion and doesn’t quite answer the Twitter textbox’s persistent question: “What’s happening?” These days, it’s hard to tell.  This Young Monster  (2017), Fox’s first book, was published a few months after Donald Trump’s election, and at one point Fox takes a swipe at a man he judges “direct from a nightmare and just a repulsive fucking goon.” Fox doesn’t linger on politics, though, since most of the monsters he looks at “embody otherness and make it into art, ripping any conventional idea of beauty to shreds and replacing it with something weird and troubling of their own invention.”

If clichés are loathed because they conform to what philosopher Georges Bataille called “the common measure,” then monsters are rebellious non-sequiturs, comedic or horrific derailments from a classical ideal. Perverts in the most literal sense, monsters have gone astray from some “proper” course. The book’s nine chapters, which are about a specific monster or type of monster, are full of callbacks to familiar and lesser-known media. Fox cites visual art, film, songs, and books with the screwy buoyancy of a savant. Take one of his essays, “Spook House,” framed as a stage play with two principal characters, Klaus (“an intoxicated young skinhead vampire”) and Hermione (“a teen sorceress with green skin and jet-black hair” who looks more like The Wicked Witch than her namesake). The chorus is a troupe of trick-or-treaters. Using the filmmaker Cameron Jamie as a starting point, the rest is free association on gothic decadence and Detroit and L.A. as cities of the dead. All the while, Klaus quotes from  Artforum ,  Dazed & Confused , and  Time Out. It’s a technical feat that makes fictionalized dialogue a conveyor belt for cultural criticism.

In Fox’s imagination, David Bowie and the Hydra coexist alongside Peter Pan, Dennis Hopper, and the maenads. Fox’s book reaches for the monster’s mask, not really to peel it off but to feel and smell the rubber schnoz, to know how it’s made before making sure it’s still snugly set. With a stylistic blend of arthouse suavity and B-movie chic,  This Young Monster considers how monsters in culture are made. Aren’t the scariest things made in post-production? Isn’t the creature just duplicity, like a looping choir or a dubbed scream? –Aaron Robertson, Assistant Editor

Elena Passarello, Animals Strike Curious Poses (2017)

Elena Passarello’s collection of essays Animals Strike Curious Poses picks out infamous animals and grants them the voice, narrative, and history they deserve. Not only is a collection like this relevant during the sixth extinction but it is an ambitious historical and anthropological undertaking, which Passarello has tackled with thorough research and a playful tone that rather than compromise her subject, complicates and humanizes it. Passarello’s intention is to investigate the role of animals across the span of human civilization and in doing so, to construct a timeline of humanity as told through people’s interactions with said animals. “Of all the images that make our world, animal images are particularly buried inside us,” Passarello writes in her first essay, to introduce us to the object of the book and also to the oldest of her chosen characters: Yuka, a 39,000-year-old mummified woolly mammoth discovered in the Siberian permafrost in 2010. It was an occasion so remarkable and so unfathomable given the span of human civilization that Passarello says of Yuka: “Since language is epically younger than both thought and experience, ‘woolly mammoth’ means, to a human brain, something more like time.” The essay ends with a character placing a hand on a cave drawing of a woolly mammoth, accompanied by a phrase which encapsulates the author’s vision for the book: “And he becomes the mammoth so he can envision the mammoth.” In Passarello’s hands the imagined boundaries between the animal, natural, and human world disintegrate and what emerges is a cohesive if baffling integrated history of life. With the accuracy and tenacity of a journalist and the spirit of a storyteller, Elena Passarello has assembled a modern bestiary worthy of contemplation and awe. –Eleni Theodoropoulos, Editorial Fellow

Esmé Weijun Wang, The Collected Schizophrenias (2019)

Esmé Weijun Wang’s collection of essays is a kaleidoscopic look at mental health and the lives affected by the schizophrenias. Each essay takes on a different aspect of the topic, but you’ll want to read them together for a holistic perspective. Esmé Weijun Wang generously begins The Collected Schizophrenias by acknowledging the stereotype, “Schizophrenia terrifies. It is the archetypal disorder of lunacy.” From there, she walks us through the technical language, breaks down the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual ( DSM-5 )’s clinical definition. And then she gets very personal, telling us about how she came to her own diagnosis and the way it’s touched her daily life (her relationships, her ideas about motherhood). Esmé Weijun Wang is uniquely situated to write about this topic. As a former lab researcher at Stanford, she turns a precise, analytical eye to her experience while simultaneously unfolding everything with great patience for her reader. Throughout, she brilliantly dissects the language around mental health. (On saying “a person living with bipolar disorder” instead of using “bipolar” as the sole subject: “…we are not our diseases. We are instead individuals with disorders and malfunctions. Our conditions lie over us like smallpox blankets; we are one thing and the illness is another.”) She pinpoints the ways she arms herself against anticipated reactions to the schizophrenias: high fashion, having attended an Ivy League institution. In a particularly piercing essay, she traces mental illness back through her family tree. She also places her story within more mainstream cultural contexts, calling on groundbreaking exposés about the dangerous of institutionalization and depictions of mental illness in television and film (like the infamous Slender Man case, in which two young girls stab their best friend because an invented Internet figure told them to). At once intimate and far-reaching, The Collected Schizophrenias is an informative and important (and let’s not forget artful) work. I’ve never read a collection quite so beautifully-written and laid-bare as this. –Katie Yee, Book Marks Assistant Editor

Ross Gay, The Book of Delights (2019)

When Ross Gay began writing what would become The Book of Delights, he envisioned it as a project of daily essays, each focused on a moment or point of delight in his day. This plan quickly disintegrated; on day four, he skipped his self-imposed assignment and decided to “in honor and love, delight in blowing it off.” (Clearly, “blowing it off” is a relative term here, as he still produced the book.) Ross Gay is a generous teacher of how to live, and this moment of reveling in self-compassion is one lesson among many in The Book of Delights , which wanders from moments of connection with strangers to a shade of “red I don’t think I actually have words for,” a text from a friend reading “I love you breadfruit,” and “the sun like a guiding hand on my back, saying everything is possible. Everything .”

Gay does not linger on any one subject for long, creating the sense that delight is a product not of extenuating circumstances, but of our attention; his attunement to the possibilities of a single day, and awareness of all the small moments that produce delight, are a model for life amid the warring factions of the attention economy. These small moments range from the physical–hugging a stranger, transplanting fig cuttings–to the spiritual and philosophical, giving the impression of sitting beside Gay in his garden as he thinks out loud in real time. It’s a privilege to listen. –Corinne Segal, Senior Editor

The IELTS Speaking Cue Card section is an important part of the IELTS Speaking test, which requires test takers to speak on a given topic for two minutes. IELTS Cue Card section is designed to assess the test taker's ability to communicate effectively in English, including fluency, coherence, and accuracy.

One of the common tasks you can receive is to  describe a famous person you are interested in and would like to meet. But before moving ahead with the cue card, you should keep the below-mentioned points in mind:

  • Thoroughly read the topic and think about a mentor, role model, or celebrity you would like to meet
  • Frame an essay structure in mind and ensure to break the text into different paragraphs
  • Be clear and concise while attempting the essay and only focus on the essential details

I am not very keen on admiring celebrities, social influencers, and famous athletes. I believe there's a "hero" in every single one of us. If I look around my surroundings and compare people's life stories and achievements, I will find multiple people worth my attention. Regardless of this opinion, I could not stop myself from following the life journey of Neeraj Chopra, an Indian track athlete in the javelin throw.

He started gaining immense fame after winning the nation's only athletics gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics, 2020. However, I have known about his sporting success long before that.

He won gold in the 2016 South Asian Games by reaching the 82.23 meters mark. It was not enough to qualify for the Olympics, i.e., 83 meters for that year, but it only made him work harder to achieve his dreams.

His performance did not go unnoticed, and the Indian Army invited him to join Rajputana Rifles as a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) at the rank of Naib Subedar. Such offers of direct appointment were rare as most athletes joined the forces as Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO). After completing his training, he was officially inducted as a JCO in December 2016.

Apart from his achievements, his life story inspires me to turn my weaknesses into strengths. If I ever meet him, I would ask about his motivation to stay humble and his way of dealing with failures and celebrating success. Additionally, coming from the same state, Haryana, I would like to know about his future plans to motivate the local youth to pursue their goals.

Sample 2 - Describe a famous person that you are interested in?

If I had to list down all the people I admire, it would include several names. But to narrow it down to one, I immensely admire the Indian football captain- Sunil Chhetri. Like most middle-class kids, I did not watch football as often as cricket growing up. Hence, I was unaware of the country's football team.

The scenario that first introduced him to me was the Intercontinental Cup in 2018. He posted a small appeal video on his social media platforms requesting fans of the game to show up and cheer for their homeland. He also thanked their supporters and asked the rest of them to come to the stadium to celebrate or criticize.

This minor incident convinced me of his humility and dedication to his work. Usually, it is unheard of for celebrities to connect with their followers in such an honest way. However, this move by Captain Chhetri motivated me to learn more about him. I learned about his affiliation with 17 clubs, the most recent one being Bengaluru FC.

He also won the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Player of the Year award in 2007, 2011, 2013, and 2014. He also holds the record for the most number of international goals. Reading about his journey from being born in a Nepalese-origin family to a national-level athlete invoked a sense of inspiration in me.

His efforts toward improving the standard and awareness of Indian football are also inspiring.

Sample 3- Describe a famous person that you are interested in?

One famous person I've always found fascinating is Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, among other ventures. What captivates me about Musk is not just his success as an entrepreneur but his vision to address some of humanity's most pressing challenges, such as sustainable energy and space colonization.

Elon Musk's journey began in South Africa, where he was born and raised before moving to the United States to pursue higher education. Despite facing numerous setbacks, including being ousted from his own company and experiencing several failed rocket launches, Musk's perseverance is nothing short of inspirational. His work with Tesla has revolutionized the automotive industry by making electric cars popular and accessible, while SpaceX has achieved significant milestones in space exploration, such as successfully launching and landing reusable rockets.

What I admire most about Musk is his commitment to his vision, regardless of the skepticism he faces. His projects, from developing a high-speed transportation system known as the Hyperloop to conceptualizing a brain-computer interface through Neuralink, showcase his forward-thinking mindset. Musk envisions a future where humanity can thrive sustainably on Earth and become a multi-planetary species, and he actively works towards making these ideas a reality.

Moreover, Musk's approach to problem-solving and innovation serves as a powerful reminder of the impact one individual can have on the world. His belief in the importance of renewable energy and space exploration for the future of humanity is not only ambitious but also crucial for prompting global action towards these goals.

In conclusion, Elon Musk is a figure of immense interest to me because of his visionary ideas and relentless pursuit of goals that extend far beyond personal gain. His contributions to technology and space exploration have not only advanced these fields but also inspired a new generation of thinkers and innovators. Musk's life and work exemplify the profound difference determination, and a commitment to one's ideals can make, making him a truly remarkable individual worth admiring.

What kind of celebrities or famous people influence you the most?

Usually, I have found that I am more inspired by business magnates and athletes who have carved their way out of nothing. In other words, I am more interested in the life journeys of influential people who come from humble beginnings as they achieve everything with their grit and determination rather than mere handouts.

What is one quality you really admire in a celebrity?

I believe most celebrities and notable personalities have the capacity to create awareness about social causes that require immediate attention. I am more influenced by people who donate to charitable organizations and utilize their popularity to do good for society.

What would you like to ask your favorite famous person?

If I ever get a chance to meet Neeraj Chopra, i.e., my favorite athlete, I would like to know about his plans. Additionally, I would ask him the strategy to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.

The person I like Most Paragraph Essay 1

Introduction.

In this long life, we meet a lot of people. Some people stay forever, and some come for a minimal period. It is estimated that we almost meet 80000 people in our life; out of them, only 14 are those who stay with us forever out of those 14. Only 5 are the people who love us unconditionally. Whenever somebody asks me about who is the person in my life that I like the most, I start thinking about the person who stayed with me whenever I needed someone awake the whole night for me who loved me unconditionally and will continue to do so forever  he is my dad.

The person I like most – My dad

My dad is the person in my life that I like the most. There are a lot of reasons to say why he is the one whom I love the most. He has dedicated his whole life just for the sake of his family. Sometimes he did not buy new clothes so that we can buy new clothes. He sacrifices his dreams so that we may live our dreams. When I am asleep, he is working. He is the gold that I got in my life. Every day when I wake up, the first thing is I thank god for being born as his son, and the second thing I do is pray to him to give me power and blessing so that soon I can make my father free from all these responsibilities. I have a dream that a time will come when we will rest the whole buy himself whatever he wants, and I will work for him.

There were times in life when I was very low for myself regarding my status regarding my studies my future and I used to cry sitting alone at that time there was always a hand on my shoulder, and he was my dad. He’s my only role model and my only inspiration, and I wish to be like him. He was always behind me whenever I need him. He’s my god and my almighty. It doesn’t matter how busy he might be. He never forgets to call me. He makes a phone call to me every day. When I fail at doing things, he is the one who tries his best to help me stand up again and motivates me to work even harder. Without any hesitation, I can share my every problem with him because I know only he can give solution to all my questions. Infect he is the solution to my every problem.

He taught me the importance of hard work and dedication. He taught me to be self-sufficient in life. He has taught me what life is all about. Whenever I go to him with some problem, he just gives me a direction and left me to decide by myself about the solutions.

Dad is the person who sacrifices his dreams for the sake of our desires. My dad is the strength and faith of my family. He is my best friend and my companion for life. I wish that I can come across the life I want, and I may become capable enough to fulfill every dream of my dad. I remember that time when he only used to eat breakfast the whole day. The way he supports everyone is incredible. Not only for me, but he has the tendency and heart to help everybody that seeks help from him.

My dad is a great singer. His hobby is to sing, and yes, he sings very well. Whenever there is an occasion in the family, he always steps up on the stage and starts singing. He is a hilarious man. The way he handles everything, the bad or good, is incredible. He has taught me to help everybody, to respect everybody regardless of their age or anything. One thing that he always says is that every person should have an artistic hobby in life it could be painting, singing, dancing, etc. because whenever a person is going through some bad times, these hobbies will help him or her to cope with stress and will make them feel better. He never treated me like a son; instead, he treated me like his friend. The way he talks with me is like he is talking to a friend. One thing he taught me is that I should never in my life break someone’s heart. He is the most humble man I have seen in my life. My dad plays volleyball very well. He was the captain of his team while representing his team for a state tournament. Whatever he does, he put his full potential and effort to make it best. He is devoted to his family and society. He helps everybody in the organization.

One thing that I love about him the most is his discipline. It doesn’t matter how busy he might be. He never skips his morning exercise. Every morning he performs yoga and goes for a brisk walk. He taught me the importance of mental fitness, along with physical fitness. He always says that trust yourself and become whatever you want to be.

He believes in living a simple and sober life. He never gets attracted to luxury or any of those useless things. Whatever he earns, he takes out some amount of money for some social cause. The taught me why it is essential to help others. Besides being a good father or a husband, he is a beautiful and noble human being. He supports me in my every step and tells me about the wrong I am doing and the ways by which I can be better. He has always supported my mother in everything. Whether it be household work or social problems. Even after getting success in life, he hasn’t changed his nature.

My father is the best person in my life. He taught me what life is and the perfect way to live it. His values keep inspiring me to do good and become a better person in life. I will try to follow the path taught by him forever.

The person I like Most &The person I love Most Paragraph Essay 2

When this question is asked to someone, the general answer most will give is their parents. When I first came across this question, I was a bit startled when I realized that my answer is not similar to most of the people. So, I paused for a bit and thought about my answer and then realized that yes, it is true.

The person I like the most is my best friend . In fact, along with like, I admire my best friend. My best friend has been the constant pillar in my life that stayed with me till today through thick and thin. So, when I first realized that my answer is nowhere near like the others, I actually was surprised but there is no point in denying the truth after all if I can’t accept the truth about myself then I can never accept anyone else’s point of view.

So, here is the truth. My best friend after knowing this little fact will scream so loud that I am pretty sure everyone in our city will be able to hear it.

The question that why exactly I like my best fried the most arises almost instantly. The fact is there are so many reasons that I can’t possibly choose only one or two among them. However, I would list as many reasons as I can and will try to explain them too.

One of the reasons is that he is a good person. Everyone will think that as he is my best friend, I am saying this but the truth is that is not the fact at all. I admire him because he won’t hesitate to help anyone during their time of need. I can testify this as he had helped me so many times that I have lost count.

Whenever in whatever situation I needed help, he always helped. With him in my life I never felt alone. If I am sad then he will cheer me up or if I need someone to listen to me, he will be there and it doesn’t matter that it is 3 a.m. in the morning or midnight.

I remember one incident. I was upset about something my classmate said about me and when he found out, he came to my house with a bunch of chocolates to listen to me. He has been my constant rock in my life.

Another thing I like about him is his personality. He has an odd combination of childlike, goofy and serious personality. I till this date can’t figure out how he had all these personalities.

He sometime has a childlike ball of energy that likes to bug me with anything and everything and sometime he is the serious guy who needs me to mature a bit in life. When time comes, he even whacks my head if I am doing something wrong. He won’t hesitate to tell me to get my acts straight.

Most of the time he also acts like a retard kid who is high on sugar and sometimes I do worry that he is actually a retard. If he finds out I said this about him then he will simply say that it took me too long to figure this simple fact out.

He is also stubborn like a kid and also acts childishly sometimes. I personally think that he is a 10-year-old kid trapped in an adult’s body. He is sometimes too cute for his own good and rest of the time too stubborn to make me want to slap him (which I do by the way).

Another thing I admire about him is the way he handles a difficult situation with ease. When the situation arises, he steps up as a leader and handle the situation with absolute ease. He is a great leader and has no problem with leading.

He does not discriminate between his subordinates and treats everyone equally and divide the whole work among them with extreme precision. He respects people and knows to give compliment where it’s due and also won’t stop scolding someone if that person does not do the job given to him.

He is the kind of person that likes to take everyone along with him and reaches the goal together with everybody. He has all the qualities of a leader which I really admire about him. If he is determined to achieve a goal then he will do that along with everybody and won’t let anyone give up along the journey either. When a work is given to him, everyone knows that he will complete it with absolute precision.

He loves to protect everyone. He loves the people that are close to him and won’t tolerate anyone hurting those persons. He is protective even about his friends.

He is also supportive. He will encourage me to try out new things as without trying out different things I cannot say that I don’t like them. When I will try out new stuff (doesn’t matter how small or big the thing is), he will be there beside me on every step of the way and I don’t have the fear that he will leave me in the middle of the road.

He has so many qualities that I haven’t listed here. He is an amazing person and I like him as a person. Even if he weren’t my best friend, I still would have admired him because people, who spend a few minutes with him, cannot help but admire him. As his best friend I am proud to have him in my life.

He is a great person and his parents are immensely proud of him. If there were people more like him in this world, then it would have been really great as there would have been more people who are willing to help a stranger in their time of need. He has many admirable qualities and here I have listed very few of them.

And admiration for the personality itself and behavior is a kind of healthy admiration that is not rejected by rational people. As for admiration for the external appearance, without looking at the content and morals, it is an unhealthy and unacceptable type of admiration.

Why do we admire a certain person?

Sometimes we feel that a certain person attracts attention and people start to admire him, which also catches our eye and we admire him like other people. But time may change our idea of this person. We may discover that he is not worthy of admiration and that we unconsciously imitate others.

Admiration at first sight is totally wrong and not the right thing to do. We must get to know people and give ourselves enough opportunity to see their behavior in different situations, which makes us judge them correctly.

Characteristics of a person worthy of admiration

It is not right to admire anyone without thinking or without having certain qualities that make him worthy of admiration. One of the most important characteristics that makes a person worthy of admiration is that he has good manners.

It is not right to admire someone who does bad behavior or does not have good manners. A beautiful appearance and fame are not enough to admire this person. He has nothing to admire.

Admiration a bad person

One of the worst things that may happen to a child or teenager is that he likes a bad person, and this is because he views this bad person as a role model that must be imitated. A bad person teaches those around him how to become like him.

Over time, this child or teenager turns into another version of this person. And we find that this matter is widespread when an actor plays a bad character that calls for violence, children and adolescents imitate what this actor presented.

How does role modeling affect teens?

One of the most dangerous things that a teenager may go through is imitating and admiring someone who behaves badly, as the teenager imitates the external appearance of this person. We find that he goes to draw tattoos on his body. And he begins to wear the same form of clothing.

The imitation does not stop there, but it extends to words and the way of speaking. Over time, the teenager may commit a legal violation or commit a crime because of imitating the life of this bad person. The teenager’s future is wasted and he may go to prison because of his wrong imitation.

How do we choose who we admire?

Parents must be a role model for their children, as they stop doing things that may show them badly in front of their children. And they should teach the child from infancy how to choose who they admire and how to get to know them.

When a young child is drawn to the behavior of a bad person, he learns the good things and turns away from the bad things.

And the family must teach him that accompanying the bad guys and admiring their behavior is something that will harm him and make him a bad person like them over time.

Admiring a famous soccer player

Most people admire a soccer player, and in my essay on the person I admire the most, we will talk about a famous soccer player who is admired by a large number of people around the world. And this player is Mohamed Salah, as people call him Mo Salah. What makes him gain all this fame is that he plays football in a beautiful and distinctive way, as he works to raise his skills to perform a game that the fans like.

He is a person who maintains his physical fitness and has good human qualities. Where he helps the needy and deals with the public in a polite manner.

Admire a band

During adolescence, a person is attracted to admiring a world famous band. This is because teenagers love to sing and dance. Over the past years, each generation of teens has had a particular band that makes them happy.

But these teams have a great influence on the teenager, and if the group is unbalanced as they take drugs or do abnormal behavior, the teenager is affected by them and begins to imitate them unconsciously, which affects the personality of the teenager and others for the worse.

Admiring a global actor

The actors are famous people with millions of fans. However, the ideal has certain characteristics that must be present in him in order to be a good role model for young people. The actor appears on television and in cinemas and is seen by everyone on a regular basis.

And if this actor is psychologically unbalanced or plays roles that call for madness and violence, then he becomes a bad example for viewers. That is why we find that the incidents that occur in societies are imitations and simulations of what young people see on the screen.

At the end of our essay on the person I admire the most, we learned about the meaning of admiration and the qualities that must be available in a person in order to deserve admiration.

We provided students at different educational levels with models for writing an essay on the person I admire the most . We presented phrases and terms that benefit all grades from the primary and secondary levels.
