6 Prinsip Penggunaan Slide dalam Presentasi

Setelah melakukan pengecekan tamu yang berkunjung ke blog ini, saya melihat banyak orang yang mencari tentang topik presentasi. Dan diantara key search term populer yang dicari adalah bagaimana menggunakan slide atau membuat slide presentasi.

Seperti yang telah saya janjikan, saya akan mengulas lebih jauh hal ini sebagai lanjutan dari mempersiapkan sebuah presentasi yang meyakinkan.

Slide dan Alat Bantu Visual

Penggunaan slide pada dasarnya adalah sebagai alat bantu presentasi, bukan presentasi itu sendiri. Karenanya perlu dibedakan antara peran slide sebagai alat bantu dan peran Anda sebagai presenter. Sebagai alat bantu, slide dibutuhkan untuk menjelaskan sesuatu yang akan cukup sulit jika harus dijelaskan dengan kata-kata. Seperti idiom yang populer mengatakan sebuah gambar bisa mewakili seribu kata-kata. Slide juga membantu memberikan ringkasan dari apa yang disampaikan sehingga lebih mudah dipahami oleh audiens. Selain itu lewat slide kita dapat memberi gambaran sebuah trend, perbandingan, dan penekanan yang agak sulit kalau harus menggunakan kata-kata.

Jangan lupa selain slide masih ada alat bantu visual lainnya yang dapat Anda gunakan diantaranya: flipchart, video, contoh produk, dan lainnya. Mudah-mudahan dalam kesempatan lain saya akan membahas hal ini.

Prinsip Dasar Membuat Slide

Ada beberapa prinsip dasar yang harus dipenuhi ketika membuat slide. Jika hal ini dilakukan, maka slide akan menjalankan fungsinya sebagai alat bantu, bukan sebagai pengganggu yang mengalihkan perhatian audiens dari presentasi itu sendiri.

Berikut adalah prinsip-prinsip tersebut:

Slide yang simpel, sederhana, dan tepat sasaran adalah yang terbaik. Dengan slide seperti ini, Anda punya banyak keleluasaan untuk memberikan penjelasan. Semakin rumit sebuah slide, maka audiens akan membutuhkan tambahan waktu hanya untuk mengerti slide tersebut. Dan bisa jadi kesulitan Anda dalam menjelaskan slide tersebut menjadi pengganggu presentasi.

2. Perlu atau Tidak?

Untuk setiap lembar slide yang akan dibuat, tanyakan pada diri Anda apakah slide tersebut perlu? Apakah cukup 5 slide saja daripada 10 slide? Apakah slide yang satu dan yang lainnya dapat digabungkan? Apakah slide ini dapat digantikan dengan penjelasan singkat kepada audiens? Sering-seringlah mempertanyakan hal ini dan Anda hanya akan membuat slide yang benar-benar efektif dan efisien.

3. Latar belakang dan Font mudah dibaca

Dengan beragamnya latar belakang slide yang dapat Anda gunakan dan ribuan font yang tersedia, ada kalanya kita tergoda untuk bereksperimen dengan bermacam pilihan. Hal tersebut boleh-boleh saja selama kombinasi latar belakang dan font yang digunakan mudah dibaca oleh audiens. Dalam beberapa training presentasi yang saya ikuti, banyak yang menganjurkan background biru gelap dengan font berwarna kuning dengan alasan kontras yang baik dan tidak cepat melelahkan mata. Saya sendiri kadangkala juga sering menggunakan background berwarna terang dengan teks yang gelap.

Untuk pemilihan font disarankan maksimum 2 dalam sebuah slide dan bahkan dalam keseluruhan presentasi Anda. Mengapa demikian? Semakin banyak font maka semakin lelah audiens ketika melihatnya. Selain itu font yang terlalu banyak membuat audiens bingung terhadap konsistensi presentasi Anda dan hubungan antara slide yang satu dengan slide berikutnya. Font yang baik untuk presentasi adalah yang tidak menggunakan banyak hiasan pada ujung hurufnya seperti: Arial, Verdana, Trebuchet. Font yang menggunakan hiasan dapat digunakan sebagai judul slide atau teks-teks pendukung yang bukan merupakan body text.

4. Maksimum 7 baris teks

Jika Anda menjelaskan beberapa item dalam format bullet point, pastikan jumlahnya tidak lebih dari 7 dalam sebuah slide. Mengapa? Jumlah yang banyak akan membuat font menjadi lebih kecil sehingga sulit dibaca. Selain itu, bukankah slide digunakan sebagai ringkasan? Karenanya jika ada item yang lebih dari 7, usahakan dikurangi dan ringkaskan.

5. Gambar, grafik, dan diagram

Dalam presentasi, Anda akan mengandalkan kemampuan presentasi Anda sendiri dibantu slide presentasi sebagai pendamping. Ada satu kekuatan yang dimiliki slide yang tidak ada pada presenter paling handal sekalipun yakni menjelaskan sesuatu dengan gambar. Ya, sebuah gambar yang tepat dapat mewakili ribuan kata jika harus dijelaskan. Karenanya manfaatkan dan gunakan gambar, grafik maupun diagram.

Gambar yang dipakai dalam slide harus relevan dengan isinya dan membantu memahami presentasi dalam konteks yang Anda harapkan. Jangan malah mengalihkan perhatian audiens ketika mereka bingung menghubungkan antara maksud gambar yang tampil dengan isi presentasi Anda.

Penggunaan grafik juga perlu perhatian sendiri. Ada berbagai jenis grafik mulai dari bar, pie chart, line, dan kombinasinya. Pemilihan jenis grafik yang benar akan memberikan dampak besar pada kemudahan audiens untuk mengerti isi presentasi Anda. Grafik bar adalah paling umum dan cocok digunakan untuk menjelaskan pertumbuhan dalam kurun waktu tertentu. Grafik pie cocok untuk menjelaskan perbandingan proporsi antara beberapa hal yang dibandingkan. Karena bentuknya seperti kue yang bulat, audiens dengan mudah bisa membuat asosiasi besar kue untuk membandingkan antara satu hal dengan lainnya. Grafik line cocok untuk menggambarkan trend perbandingan beberapa item sekaligus. Untuk penggunaan grafik ini, saya akan coba mengulasnya secara lebih mendalam.

Adapun diagram akan sangat membantu ketika Anda menjelaskan langkah-langkah proses kerja dan hubungannya satu sama lain. Manfaakan hal ini untuk memudahkan audiens memahami bagian yang sulit dari presentasi.

6. Gunakan kombinasi warna yang cukup

Keunggulan lainnya dari slide adalah Anda dapat menggunakan berbagai pilihan warna. Gunakan beberapa warna yang memiliki kontras cukup dan konsisten dalam slide Anda. Jangan gunakan warna yang berbeda-beda di setiap slide karena akan sangat mengganggu dan membuat Anda tampil tidak profesional.

Demikian 6 prinsip yang perlu dipertimbangkan dalam membuat slide presentasi.

Lantas Anda mungkin bertanya, bagaimana dengan penggunaan template dengan warna dan ragam yang banyak? Jawabannya adalah template tersebut dapat Anda gunakan selama memenuhi kaidah di atas dan yang paling penting pilih template yang tidak menggunakan gambar latar yang terlalu kompleks sehingga menyita tempat dan perhatian tersendiri dalam presentasi. Hal ini penting karena gambar latar template akan tampil di setiap slide Anda dari awal sampai akhir.

Pertanyaan lain yang mungkin muncul adalah, bagaimana dengan animasi, efek transisi antar slide, dan penggunaan suara? Untuk bagian ini Anda harus berhati-hati. Untuk animasi semisal gambar yang bergerak, atau gambar yang berubah-ubah sangat mudah mengalihkan perhatian audiens. Tanyakan pada diri Anda apakah hal itu perlu? Animasi dimungkinkan misalnya ketika Anda menjelaskan sebuah proses teknik yang rumit dan dengan adanya animasi bergerak menggambarkan proses tersebut bekerja. Selain dari kondisi tersebut, saya menyarankan hindarkan penggunaan animasi.

Transisi antar slide dan bagaimana teks tampil di layar juga perlu diperhatikan. Saya lebih konservatif dalam hal ini dan memilih transisi sederhana seperti Appear atau Fade dalam Powerpoint. Alasannya adalah transisi tersebut tidak terlalu mengalihkan perhatian dan jika dipakai dengan benar dapat menambah kekuatan presentasi. Misal ketika Anda menjelaskan sebuah diagram yang menunjukkan tahapan dan Anda ingin agar audiens melihatnya bagian per bagian, maka transisi ini dapat dipakai. Hindari transisi yang membuat teks berputar-putar, bergerak dari kiri ke kanan, tampil huruf per huruf disertai bunyi tembakan dan berbagai aksesori lainnya yang berlebihan.

Terakhir adalah penggunaan suara. Untuk bagian yang satu ini saya menyarankan untuk tidak menggunakannya kecuali Anda sedang menampilkan video dalam presentasi. Banyak presentasi yang terlihat sangat tidak profesional dan mengganggu perhatian ketika setiap paragraf muncul diiringi suara tembakan, tepuk tangan, bunyi kamera dan lain-lain. Ingatlah bahwa Anda sedang memberikan presentasi dan bukan sedang menampilkan special effect sebuah film.

Aplikasi Microsoft Powerpoint ini pertama kali dikembangkan oleh Bob Gaskins dan Dennis Austin sebagai Presenter untuk perusahaan bernama Forethought, Inc. yang kemudian mereka ubah namanya menjadi PowerPoint.

Pada tahun 1987, Powerpoint versi 1.0 dirilis, dan komputer yang didukungnya adalah Apple Macintosh. Pada waktu itu, Powerpoint masih menggunakan warna hitam/putih, yang mampu membuat halaman teks dan grafik untuk transparansi Overhead projector (OHP). Setahun kemudian, versi baru dari Powerpoint muncul dengan dukungan warna, setelah Macintosh berwarna muncul ke pasaran.

Microsoft pun mengakuisisi Forethought, Inc dan tentu saja beserta perangkat lunak Powerpoint dengan harga kira-kira 14 juta dolar pada tanggal 31 Juli 1987. Pada tahun 1990, versi Microsoft Windows dari Powerpoint (versi 2.0) muncul ke pasaran, mengikuti jejak Microsoft Windows 3.0. Sejak tahun 1990, Powerpoint telah menjadi bagian standar yang tidak terpisahkan dalam paket aplikasi kantoran Microsoft Office System (kecuali Basic Edition).

Versi terbaru adalah Microsoft Office Powerpoint 2013 (Powerpoint 15). Versi ini dirilis pada bulan Januari 2013, yang merupakan sebuah lompatan yang cukup jauh dari segi antarmuka pengguna dan kemampuan grafik yang ditingkatkan. Selain itu, dibandingkan dengan format data sebelumnya yang merupakan data biner dengan ekstensi *.ppt, versi ini menawarkan format data XML dengan ekstensi *.pptx

Kompatibilitas

Mengingat Microsoft Powerpoint merupakan program yang sangat populer, banyak aplikasi yang juga mendukung struktur data dari Microsoft Powerpoint, seperti halnya OpenOffice.org. Hal ini menjadikan program-program tersebut dapat juga digunakan sebagai alternatif untuk Powerpoint, karena selain tentunya dapat membuka format Powerpoint, aplikasi-aplikasi tersebut tentunya memiliki fitur-fitur untuk menyajikan presentasi Powerpoint Anda.

Dalam Microsoft Powerpoint, seperti halnya perangkat lunak pengolah presentasi lainnya, objek teks, grafik, video, suara dan objek-objek lainnya diposisikan dalam beberapa halaman individual yang disebut dengan “slide”. Setiap slide dapat pula dicetak atau ditampilkan dalam layar dan dapat dinavigasikan sesuai perintah.

Microsoft PowerPoint dapat menyimpan presentasi dalam beberapa format, yaitu sebagai berikut:

  • *.PPT (Powerpoint presentation), yang merupakan data biner dan tersedia dalam semua versi Powerpoint (termasuk Powerpoint 12)
  • *.PPS (Powerpoint Show), yang merupakan data biner dan tersedia dalam semua versi Powerpoint (termasuk Powerpoint 12)
  • *.POT (Powerpoint Template), yang merupakan data biner dan tersedia dalam semua versi Powerpoint (termasuk Powerpoint 12)
  • *.PPTX (Powerpoint Presentation), yang merupakan data dalam bentuk XML dan hanya tersedia dalam Powerpoint 12.

Bagian berikutnya yaitu adalah templat atau template . Slide templat berisi jumlah template atau desain bawaan yang biasanya diberikan oleh Microsoft.

Penanda atau bookmark merupakan ventilasi kerja yang berisi infromasi tentang desain slide yang dibuat. Slide bookmark merupakan bentuk mini preview dari jumlah atau total page slide yang akan dipakai. Tampilannya pun biasanya tersedia dalam 2 (dua) bentuk yaitu adalah:

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation

Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with screen-readers are able to read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements, alongside console screenshots of code examples:

Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website.

These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.

Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.

Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode : this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Screen-readers Compatibility: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over 7 different coloring options.
  • Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

Browser and assistive technology compatibility

We aim to support the widest array of browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all major systems that comprise over 95% of the user market share including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (screen readers), both for Windows and for MAC users.

With Copilot in PowerPoint, you can create a presentation from an existing Word document. Point Copilot in PowerPoint to your Word document, and it will generate slides, apply layouts, create speaker notes, and choose a theme for you.

Best practices when creating a presentation from a Word document

Leverage word styles to help copilot understand the structure of your document.

By using Styles in Word to organize your document, Copilot will better understand your document structure and how to break it up into slides of a presentation. Structure your content under Titles and Headers when appropriate and Copilot will do its best to generate a presentation for you.

Include images that are relevant to your presentation

When creating a presentation, Copilot will try to incorporate the images in your Word document. If you have images that you would like to be brought over to your presentation, be sure to include them in your Word document.

Start with your organization’s template

If your organization uses a standard template, start with this file before creating a presentation with Copilot. Starting with a template will let Copilot know that you would like to retain the presentation’s theme and design. Copilot will use existing layouts to build a presentation for you. PowerPoint and Google Slides are two popular options for presentations, but which one is best? As someone who has used both programs for a long time, I've found that Google Slides offers many advantages that make it my go-to choice.

Let's be clear: I'm comparing the web-based PowerPoint and Google Slides versions. It's unfair to compare Google Slides to the desktop version of PowerPoint, isn't it? Here are some reasons why Google Slides is my favorite presentation tool.

1. Ease of Collaboration

Ease of collaboration was the central reason I switched to Google Slides for my presentation needs. As a content creator, I always aim for a seamless collaboration experience while dealing with my clients and team members. Google Slides offered exactly that, and I was in love with it.

So, is Google Slides better than PowerPoint for collaboration? It certainly has advantages that make it an ideal choice for a lot of users.

With Google Slides, you can efficiently work with others and share your work , no matter what kind of computer or phone you use. If you have a Google account and the link to the presentation, you can join in and make changes simultaneously with other members.

In contrast, to collaborate in PowerPoint, you have to consider various external factors, such as the user's working device and storage locations. For example, you might not be able to easily collaborate with someone who has an older version of PowerPoint, or with someone using a PowerPoint mobile due to feature limitations. Some things that are restricted in the free web and mobile version compared to PowerPoint on desktop include limited commenting tags, editing options, and more.

Additionally, Google Slides also has built-in chat and commenting features. This feature allows all your team members to stay on the same page and communicate with each other to streamline editing. In PowerPoint, you're limited to comments only.

2. Offline Access

Another important reason for my switch to Google Slides is the offline access feature. With this feature, you can create, edit, and present presentations to others even without an internet connection. Any changes you apply offline are synced automatically once you're back online, so you can keep working even without an internet connection.

You can activate offline access by checking the offline mode option in your Google Drive settings.

Also, with Google Slides, you don't need software installed on your computer to access your presentations offline. However, Microsoft PowerPoint requires an internet connection to save changes to OneDrive storage. No internet, no autosave!

3. Integration With Other Google Tools

Switching to Google Slides is easy if you already use Google apps like Docs, Sheet, Meet, and Gmail. They all work well together. You can import charts and tables from Google Sheets into your presentations with just a few clicks. Any modifications to the original data in Google Sheets will automatically be reflected in your Google Slides presentation.

For example, on Google Slides, open the "Insert" tab and navigate to the "Chart" option. From there, click on the "From Sheets" option and import a chart from Google Sheets.

Furthermore, you can add Google Keep notes to your Slides and share your content in Google Meet with Smart Canvas without switching between tabs.

On the other hand, Microsoft PowerPoint integrates with other Microsoft tools, but it's not as seamless as Google Slides and has limited integration capabilities. For example, unlike Google Sheets, which updates data automatically in Slides, PowerPoint requires you to manual refresh to update Excel charts. This means you need to copy and paste the updated chart from Excel to PowerPoint.

4. More Storage Space

Google Slides offers more storage space through Google Drive. With a Google account, you get 15GB of storage shared across Google Photos, Drive, and Gmail. This is significantly more than what Microsoft offers with its free PowerPoint Web version, which only provides 5GB of OneDrive storage. If you create large presentations with many images or videos, Google's extra storage space can be a significant advantage.

Additionally, Google offers affordable plans to upgrade your storage if needed. For example, you can get 100GB of storage for a $20 annual fee, which is perfect for those who create and store a lot of presentations. However, it's important to note that pricing for additional storage might be different depending on your region.

For detailed information, it's best to check your plans manually by clicking the "Get More Storage" option in Drive.

5. Compatibility With PowerPoint

I know what you're thinking—what if I need to work with someone who only uses Microsoft PowerPoint? Fear not; Google Slides has got you covered. You can import and export PowerPoint presentations into Google Slides, making switching between the two platforms easy.

This feature has been a lifesaver for me when I work with my clients or colleagues who use PowerPoint. I can easily collaborate with them and edit their files without any hassle. After making changes, I can save the Google Slides file again as a PowerPoint file.

You can add your PowerPoint file to Google Slides by either uploading it on Drive or directly opening it from the File > Open option.

6. AI Features

You can also use Google AI tools like Gemini to improve your presentations. For example, the Gemini AI feature in Google Slides allows users to generate images and slides based on their prompts. You can access Gemini from the Slides side panel and input your prompts, such as "Create a slide about," and it will generate slides accordingly.

This feature lets you quickly add relevant and visually appealing presentation content without leaving the Google Slides platform. Using Gemini AI, you can also generate background images in various styles, such as Vector art, Photography, Watercolor, and others.

In contrast, Microsoft AI feature tools like Copilot are not available on the PowerPoint web version. To use Copilot and other AI features in PowerPoint requires a paid subscription to either Microsoft 365 or Copilot Pro.

7. Provide Detailed Version History

Both Google Slides and Microsoft PowerPoint allow you to view and restore previously edited versions of your presentation. However, Google Slides stands out with its detailed version history feature. This feature groups certain versions of your presentation together if you make multiple changes over a short period. This makes it easy to find and select the version you need. These group versions are displayed under the Version History panel.

Another notable feature of Google Slides is the ability to name the modified versions. This is quite useful when working on large documents with multiple collaborators, as it can take time to find the version you want, among many others. To rename a version, open the "Version History" panel, click the three-dot icon, and then select "Name This Version" from the dropdown menu.

Once you've named important versions of your presentation, you can filter them by selecting the "Named Versions" option from the drop menu. This will highlight only the renamed versions, along with the current version of the document, making it easy to locate the version you need.

8. Customization Features and Template Options

The web version of Microsoft PowerPoint has limited features compared to the PowerPoint desktop app, which can sometimes be helpful while designing presentations. For example, you can't insert charts or equations in the web version. Additionally, you can't add hyperlinks to pictures or shapes. On the other hand, you can add equations, charts, and hyperlinks to images in Google Slides.

While both platforms offer a good selection of templates, I prefer Google Slides because its templates are user-friendly and easy to customize. It also provides more flexibility when working with themes compared to the web version of PowerPoint.

Google Slides isn't a flawless tool, but for me and many other presentation creators, it not only gets the job done but also has some advantages over PowerPoint. Whether you're a student, team, or regular user, you can use it to make clear and effective presentations.

When startup founders pitch investors ahead of a seed or Series A round, they haven't gotten far off the ground. 

Presentations can be helpful at laying out the how they plan to take on a particular business.

By Series B, startups are looking for a chance to grow big

By their Series B rounds, startups are raising higher sums at higher valuations. They're often still early into their existence and are looking for ways to get big. 

Health-data startup Carta Healthcare raised $25 million as it navigates a path to profitability. 

And Devoted Health raised $300 million at a $1.8 billion valuation in 2018 before it had signed on any customers. 

Women's healthcare startup Tia used this 30-slide presentation in 2021 to raise $100 million one year after losing all its revenue 'overnight' because of COVID-19. Tia planned to use the funding to expand its in-person clinics in new locations. 

And even amid the 2022 market downturn, Folx Health raised raise $30 million to provide more telehealth options for LGBTQ+ patients with this 17-slide presentation . 

Tomorrow Health, a home-care startup, used this 12-slide presentation to raise $60 million in Series B funding . It's backed by investors including Andreessen Horowitz. 

Meanwhile tech startup Stellar Health raised $60 million from General Atlantic with this presentation with its approach of rewarding doctors for providing better care.

Late-stage rounds can give startups the fuel to scale or gear up for a public debut

The presentations used to secure later rounds of funding can be used to show investors how far the startup's come, and what's ahead.

Often, the investors start to look different as well, and startups can find themselves pitching asset managers or industry incumbents, like health insurers. 

For instance, Tiger Global and Blackstone backed decentralized trials startup Medable in its Series D .

Tiger Global — alongside health insurer Humana — also backed the at-home healthcare startup Dispatch Health in its Series D . 

And hot mental-health startup NOCD won over investors including Cigna Ventures in January with this presentation .

The later-stage rounds can signal that a company is on the verge of making a major change. In 2023, 98point6 sold its virtual-care service and raised $30.7 million for its pivot to selling software using this pitch deck . 

Meanwhile, Omada Health used this presentation to raise $192 million as it gears up for an IPO . Digital health startup Tebra similarly used this 23-slide presentation to raise $72 million as it prepares to go public . 

Insurer Centene has backed some later-stage rounds, including Hazel Health's Series C and Vida Health's $110 million round. The upstart shared the presentation that helped it raise the funds toward a new vision for the hardest kind of healthcare.

The presentations at this stage can help land startups like Aledade high valuations. Aledade raised $100 million in a round that valued the company at $2.1 billion .

Sometimes, if the founder is well-known, companies might even get unsolicited funding. This happened to Glen Tullman's new startup Transcarent, which raised a $200 million Series C round that valued the company at $1.62 billion.
