TikTok is the newest, hippest (just ask any twenty-something year old) social media platform and arguably the biggest thing since Instagram’s launch in 2010. The platform boasts over 1 billion users and has been downloaded an upwards of 200 million times in the United States alone. You can find all sorts of videos on TikTok from food recipes and fashion, to presentation tips. Its diverse, entertaining, short-form content is what makes the app so favorable across many different age groups and demographics.

Many trends and recommendations have come to light because of the ever-popular social media app like dances, sounds, and meals. And of course, we’re thrilled that it put presentations on the map for something fun other than board meetings and thesis assignments.

PowerPoint Parties Are the Party Trend You Have to Try—Here's How to Host One

Try these clever PowerPoint party hosting tips and ideas for a fun night.

Lauren is a former editor at Real Simple and currently serves as a senior digital editor for Better Homes & Gardens.

powerpoint presentation party topics

All get-togethers are great, but PowerPoint parties have become popular for livening up in-person and virtual parties. PowerPoint nights give everyone something to contribute to the party's success (beyond a hostess gift ). And they're great for connecting with far-flung friends or family, as you can easily host it over Zoom or video chat.

The cool thing: All you need is a computer, a screen, and your friends' creativity to host a PowerPoint night that'll leave everyone laughing (and likely, looking to host their own PowerPoint party in the not-so-distant future). If you're ready to jump on the PowerPoint party trend, here's everything you need to know to host one of your own, plus plenty of ideas for PowerPoint presentations that will make you the hit of any party you attend.

What Is a PowerPoint Party?

A PowerPoint party takes the meeting and school presentation staple—the Microsoft PowerPoint presentation or slideshow—and makes it fun, playful, and party-appropriate. PowerPoint party attendees craft and give presentations on topics of their choice. Drinking, themed costumes , Q&As, and other fun add-ons may also be included.

A PowerPoint party can also be done with Google Slides, Keynote (the presentation software from Apple available on iOS devices), or any other presentation tool—Microsoft PowerPoint is not required. PowerPoint parties are best kept to a small group of people—it's not an activity for a crowded rager—and can be enjoyed virtually or in person.

How to Host a PowerPoint Party

To plan and host a PowerPoint party, first, gather a select group of people you think will enjoy the party. PowerPoint parties aren't for everyone or every occasion—it's something best left for smaller groups of adults, young adults, and teens. If you want to include younger kids, consider pairing them with an adult or an older child with experience giving presentations; if you want to have larger groups, consider dividing them into teams to create presentations.

When you invite people, explain the expectations of the party. What's the time limit or slide limit for each presentation? What's the dress code? Is the PowerPoint party themed? If you're hosting the party virtually , send around the link to join the video call early and avoid technical difficulties. You can allow everyone to share their screen when presenting, or you can collect all the presentations and serve as the presenter.

Don't load up your slides with text. Use your slideshow for images, graphs, and keywords or phrases that help make your point. When presenting, don't just read what's on the screen; try to use notecards to make your argument. To ensure you rule at the PowerPoint party, take your presentation for a spin or two to fine-tune what you want to say.

PowerPoint Night Hosting Tips

If you're attending a PowerPoint party, your presentation can be whatever you want it to be. (Most PowerPoint parties should be goofy—in the topic or presentation.) Use PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Keynote to fill your slideshow with images, charts, graphs, quotes, gifs, videos, and whatever else makes your point, and have fun with it. And don't be afraid to use all those weird effects that the apps offer that you never get to use in everyday work life. (Why not make that slide spin off into the ether?) Here are some other fun rules to incorporate.

Turn It Into a Drinking Game

Have presenters take a sip of their drink every time they say "um" or another filler word, or ask them to finish their drink in its entirety if their presentation extends beyond the allotted time. (Always drink responsibly, of course.) You could even pick an uncommon word or phrase—like "pink umbrella," for example—and if anyone works it organically into their presentation, the whole party has to drink.

If you're worried about people having the same topic, ask that everyone submit their topics to you ahead of time to avoid any duplicates.

Create a Dress Code

Take the party up a notch by enforcing a themed dress code. If everyone is presenting about historical figures, have them dress up like their chosen figure. You could also ask everyone to wear business attire or dress entirely in one color.

Consider Assigning Topics

While it's fun to let them use their imagination and share a wide array of presentations at your PowerPoint night, assigning a topic theme or a specific topic can give your party more structure and challenge your guests a little, too. They'll have to work up a passion for their given topic, and you can laugh at their efforts to make their presentations entertaining. (Bonus points if you choose extremely obscure topics, like how staples are made or where sand comes from.)

Award Prizes

To get everyone invested in your PowerPoint party, make it competitive. Find a great prize and create a scoring sheet with points for the quality of the presentation, the strength of the argument, choice of images, outfit choice, adherence to the time limit, and whatever other details you think are important. Have everyone score their fellow presenters (all in jest) after their presentation. The winner at the end gets the prize.

There isn't just a single Oscar awarded, is there? Consider offering prizes in an array of categories at your PowerPoint party— the wildest use of PowerPoint effects, most dedicated presenter, best costume, etc.

Share Presentations

Once your PowerPoint party is over, consider sending out the various presentations (with permission, of course) to everyone on the guest list. Attendees can relive their favorite moments and those who attended virtually can better see the fun. Who knows? Maybe they'll be inspired to host their own PowerPoint get-together.

30 PowerPoint Party Theme Ideas

Ready to host your very own themed PowerPoint party? While the Drink, Talk, Learn (DTL) PowerPoint party—in which everyone chooses a topic they're passionate about, with no themes or restrictions—is a classic option, if you want to choose a party theme , check out some clever PowerPoint night ideas below.

  • Drunk history: Presenters choose a historical figure or event and present about it. Have everyone dress like their figure or era, and encourage people to have a drink or two before their presentation to make it really interesting.
  • The best [whatever] of all time: Every presenter picks a movie, TV show, video game, board game, fictional character, food, city, etc., and everyone makes the case that their pick is the best one of all time. Keep topic selections within the same genre to spark a little friendly competition.
  • Conspiracy theories: Have everyone select a conspiracy theory and present it to convince everyone that it could indeed be true.
  • Assigning characters: All presenters pick a category—it could be dogs, foods, characters in a movie, TV show, or book, whatever—and explain who everyone would be in each group. (This is best done within a close-knit group of friends.) Presenters could explain which Harry Potter or The Office character everyone might be or which type of pasta noodle they'd be. The opportunities are endless.
  • Who survives? Rate your friends on their survival skills in several dangerous events, such as The Hunger Games, a slasher movie, or a zombie apocalypse. Be sure to share how each pal at the PowerPoint party meets their bitter end and who will survive the longest (and how).
  • Over/underrated: Each guest shares their hot take on something overrated or underrated—and shares their reasoning behind it. It can be something from pop culture, foods, a beauty product, a fashion trend, or even a hobby.
  • Cast the movie of your life: Choose who would lay your parents, your friends, your mate—and you! (Be sure to assign celebs for each of the attendees that you know, of course.)
  • Biggest regrets: Reveal it all, from highlights gone wrong to spring break shenanigans to major parenting fails.
  • Dream pets: Rank dog breeds, highlight why lizards reign supreme, or go ahead and list the magical pets you'd love to have (hello, unicorns!).
  • How-to hacks: Share your skills! Take your friends step by step through concocting your signature cocktail , getting killer deals on travel, or crafting cool nail art .
  • The perfect undercover names: Give every party member a secret agent moniker and highlight their spy-worthy skills, whether it's their next-level driving or their ability to keep a (top) secret.
  • When a favorite show jumped the shark: Narrow it down to the key moment that the show in question started its decline in quality—and make your case for it.
  • Crystal ball prognostication: Imagine where you and your friends will be in five, 10, or 20 years from now. (The funnier your predictions, the better!)
  • Worst gift ever: Chronicle the weirdest gifts you (or people you know) received—and why they're bad. Don't forget to include photos!
  • Dream wedding: Even if you're already paired off, pop in what you'd want to do to celebrate your wedding now if money was no object.
  • Bucket lists: A PowerPoint party is the perfect opportunity to see which wish list items you share with your friends—and start making plans to cross them off together.
  • Guilty pleasures: Share your favorite guilty pleasure(s), and lay out the argument why others should indulge as well.
  • Me in the multiverse: Take a cue from Everything Everywhere All at Once and imagine what your alter egos are doing in alternate realities.
  • Junk drawer archaeology: Dive into the depths of your junk drawer and share the weirdest/smartest/oldest finds.
  • Confessions: It's time to come clean on sins from your past or present and plead your case for why it had to be done.
  • Friends trivia: No, we're not talking about what the mail label says on Chandler Bing's TV Guide (though it's Chanandler Bong, if you need it for your next trivia night). Instead, quiz other guests to see how much they remember about each other.
  • Word to the wise: Keep your friends from learning the hard way by sharing a life lesson you've learned.
  • Phobias: Share your biggest (and ideally, weirdest) fears and why you're not a fan.
  • Two truths and a lie: Turn the classic party game into a PowerPoint party presentation—and see who knows you best.
  • DIY fails: Share the tales (and ideally, photos!) of projects you envisioned and how they went wrong.
  • Fandom vs. fandom : Presenters can pick their favorite fandom to discuss and (playfully) pit against other fandoms. For example, someone can bring up the classic Star Wars vs. Star Trek debate.
  • Awkward photos : We all have those not-so-photogenic moments in our lives. Whether it's an awkward family photo, an embarrassing school photo, or some other cringe-inducing memory, it's time to share with everyone.
  • Lottery dream : Share what you would do if you were to hit the jackpot and win millions in the lottery. The more lavish and outrageous your expenses, the more fun for the party.
  • Pet peeves : Whether it's the use of the Oxford comma or honking while driving, get your grievances out and tell everyone why your pet peeves should be banished.
  • Celebrity crushes : Go ahead and ask everyone to talk about their ultimate celebrity crush—past and present. They can gush about why this person is their favorite, share some eye candy, and even say what they would do if they ever met their crush in person.

15 Fresh PowerPoint Night Ideas That’ll Steal the Show

powerpoint presentation party topics

Few things top a girls night, especially when there’s wine involved. But what’s better than a wine night with your girlfriends? Drinks and a show of course. The PowerPoint night is one of the only good things to come out of quarantine. Since then, it has blown up on every platform for its risqué and entertaining topics.  A thrilling PowerPoint presentation party is the perfect way to spice up a night-in and add some flavor to your fun! We’ve all seen viral TikTok videos of the self-deprecating yet hilarious PowerPoint categories and texted in our group chat, “You guys, we HAVE to do this.” Then the time comes to find that killer topic and your mind is annoyingly blank. Depending on the mood of your night, there are several different categories to choose from. Your idea needs to be original (sounding), relatable to your group and surprising enough to stand out.

Here are the top 15 fresh ideas for your next PowerPoint night that’ll steal the show.

Plus, check out the amazing gifts to spice up your powerpoint night, 1. american girl doll rice purity scores.

If you weren’t part of the American Girl Doll phase, you missed out. These virtuous dolls served as the material mentors of our childhoods, but in the wise words of Cobra Starship’s hit song, “Good Girls Go Bad.” We all know Kit Kittredge isn’t as innocent as she pretends to be. That blond bob, lavender cardigan and flat paneled floral skirt isn’t fooling anyone. It’s time to let the cat out of the bag.

2. Recasting Your Friends as High School Musical Characters

Every friend group has a Taylor Mckessie and a Sharpay Evans. The world just wouldn’t be the same without them. Whether or not you were a basketball jock or theatre kid, this topic will always be a hit on a PowerPoint night. You can’t mess with the classics.

3. Your Friend’s Celebrity Lookalikes

If you can nail this topic, you’re guaranteed to come out on top of PowerPoint night. There is nothing more satisfying or hilarious than putting the pieces together that your friend looks exactly like Buford from Phineas and Ferb (true story). Celebrities don’t have to be people: cartoons are up for grabs too. Let’s use this as an opportunity to establish some lasting comparisons and inside jokes people. Get to thinking!

4. Who You’d Cast in a Live Action Shrek

If you’re looking for a more comedic take on presentation night , look no further. Not only is Shrek a funny category in itself, but casting a live action movie with no restraints on who you choose is the recipe for a winning topic. Don’t limit yourself by thinking the  Shrek  cast is the only option. Some honorable mentions are Ratatouille, Madagascar or Ice Age . Nevertheless, kudos to the mastermind behind this genius idea.

5. Which Reality TV Show Each Friend Would Thrive on

Reality TV is a neglected realm in the world of PowerPoint nights, making this presentation idea golden. Take this as an opportunity to reflect on some of the most “quality” and “talented” TV personalities out there. Maybe your best friend would kill it on Real Housewives of New Jersey , or maybe they would channel their inner Snooki on Jersey Shore . Whatever it is, there’s a show for everyone.

6.  What Cartoons Would Each of Your Friends Best Fit Into?

Don’t get this category confused with celeb lookalikes. This is where personalities come into play.

“ My friend is the human form of Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus . She acts literally just like her. Once we made that connection we can’t unsee it, it’s hilarious,” University of Tennessee sophomore Elizabeth Duncan said.

This topic takes physical similarities one step further as substance is added to the argument.

7. The Five Best Nights at College

This idea is sure to be a fan favorite. There’s no better feeling than reminiscing on a shared memory that spirals into a 30-minute session of animated storytelling. Compile your most iconic Snapchats and epic videos to create the presentation of a lifetime. This idea will incite conversation, laughter and the mutual agreement that your PowerPoint is the best one of the night.

8. What sides of TikTok Would Former U.S. Presidents be on

As everyone knows, TikTok can get weird. There are so many segues and avenues that can lead you to content you never thought you’d see. That being said, this leads us to our eighth PowerPoint idea. It’s easier if not more entertaining to just go off looks here. For example, JFK’s face screams home renovation and clean up TikTok, while Eisenhower is a total Frog TikTok guy.   You might agree with these comparisons, you might not. However, what we can agree on is that your friends are never going to see this one coming.

9. Are They Hot or are They Tall?

Ladies, it’s time to face the facts with this sad but true PowerPoint topic . Some people prefer height over everything else, but that’s not the topic at hand. Yes, for many height is an attractive and important factor in a partner, but dare it be said…  are they just tall?  Let’s get the ball rolling on this controversial conversation.

10. Top 10 Worst Trends of the 2000’s

This idea gives you the opportunity to take a trip down memory lane. Dust off those yearbooks and pull out those photo albums to review the iconic fashion  fails of the 2000’s. Oh yes, you know what they are. Do crimped hair, cargo pants or jelly sandals ring a bell?

“I was recently talking with my roommates about how in middle school I wore jean shorts over my pink leggings. I paired it with a green top and called it my ‘watermelon outfit’. Can’t say I miss it but it’s hilarious to look back on,” Auburn University junior Kylie Murray said.

The only good thing that came out of 2000’s trends is Lip Smackers. Nevertheless, not only will this idea be fun for your group of friends to listen to, but for you to create!

11. Disney Characters You Would not let Hold my Drink at a Party

To be frank, while Disney is mystical and magical, it is filled with supporting role creeps. Off the top of your head, you could probably name five to 10 Disney characters that come off a little sketchy. For example, even though the Baboon from The Lion King doesn’t give off creep vibes, he’s still too off his rocker to be trusted with any form of edible substance. Now activate that Disney+ account and comb through those childhood classics!

12. Predicting your Friend’s Futures

It’s said that no one can predict your future but for the sake of PowerPoint night, yes they can. You can get creative and come up with each of your friends’ future starter packs. You can also leave the future up to fate through M.A.S.H. Either way, this is an easy and fun topic dive into & test the knowledge of your besties.

13. Rating Your Friend’s Drunk Snacks

The night is coming to an end, and you leave the bar and walk toward your fridge. When the moment strikes, different foods call to different people. Spicy Cheetos are the only thing that’ll make the night right for some. For others, it’s pizza rolls and a bag of Skittles. And for some roommates, it’s turkey.

“My roommate ate a pound of turkey last semester before she went to bed. I have a literal video of her eating a bowl of turkey with a spoon a week ago. She gets straight zeroes for that one,” Auburn University junior Bess Tiller said.

Whatever floats your boat , put it in the PowerPoint.

14. Rating the Most Attractive Fast-Food Mascots

This topic is definitely out of the box, but it’s too good not to include in this list. As a new contribution to the PowerPoint world, this idea is the perfect combination of relatable and risqué. If you take the time to research, you’ll find that food mascots have been slept on. Example number one, Tony the Tiger, for obvious reasons.

15. Rating Your Friends as Getaway Drivers

We all have those friends who currently drive like getaway drivers without being asked (cue swerving car sound). Now is the time to give them credit. Agility, speed and the ability to swiftly maneuver through traffic, without causing an accident, are all taken into account here. Channel your inner “ Baby Driver ” and let’s put this PowerPoint night into gear!

PowerPoint Party Ideas: 18 Fun and Hilarious Ways to Try This Trend

PowerPoint party ideas: party invitation on a laptop screen

Back in the day, Microsoft PowerPoint was the king of school project presentations and office meetings. Then, during the pandemic, its popularity surged as a convenient way to get together online with friends and family. Today, PowerPoint is trending on TikTok as the star activity of in-person sleepovers, virtual hangouts, and game nights .

If you’re ready to plan a PowerPoint party , all you need is a computer, a presentation tool, an audience, and this guide! Read on for fun PowerPoint party ideas including suggestions for entertaining presentations, interactive games, and engaging activities.

What Is a PowerPoint Party?

PowerPoint party ideas: colleagues playing games at their office

A PowerPoint party puts a new spin on the classic presentation software from Microsoft. Participants come up with fun creative ideas to share with other partygoers and put it all together in a presentation tool like PowerPoint, Apple Keynote, or Google Slides . Everyone takes turns presenting their chosen topic. Like any festive gathering, costumes can be encouraged and drinking games are often incorporated — along with hilarious Q&A sessions.

To plan your own PowerPoint party , start by creating a small list of guests. These parties are best when there aren’t a large number of participants since it can get chaotic. If you do want to invite more people, consider having them participate as teams.

PowerPoint parties are also better suited for teen or adult gatherings since you’ll need to know how to use the presentation tool. If you want to include younger kids, pair them with a parent or older family member who can help guide them through the presentation.

Next, consider the format of the event. Assign a time limit for each presentation, consider if you want to have a party theme, and decide if you want to incorporate a dress code or costume requirement. Once you have everything organized, send out digital invitations and let guests know what to expect during the party.

18 Fun and Memorable PowerPoint Party Ideas

PowerPoint party ideas: friends playing games at home

PowerPoint parties are meant to be fun and silly. When choosing a topic to present, focus on one that you (and your guests) will find entertaining. Once you start creating the slideshow , be sure to use digital effects and visuals like GIFs , videos, graphs, emojis , memes , and charts to make your point. If you need some help getting started, consider using presentation templates or starter packs to easily put together any themed slideshow .

Whether you’re hosting a bachelor or bachelorette party , a birthday get-together, or a casual Friday night celebration, PowerPoint parties are a fun way to spend time with your closest friends and family. Here are our favorite funny PowerPoint party ideas that are sure to have you laughing out loud.

1. Drink, Talk, and Learn

PowerPoint party ideas: group of friends drinking while on a video call

Drink, Talk, and Learn (DTL) is one of the classic themes for a PowerPoint party . It focuses on choosing a topic, teaching your friends about it, and drinking while doing it. (Of course, you can make it a non-alcoholic drinking event.) Think of it as a modern take on a lecture, but way more fun. Topics can range from basic chemistry and edible plants to wild animals, worldwide New Year’s traditions , or unusual jobs.

2. Everyone as Fictional Characters From TV Shows or Movies

Create a PowerPoint presentation showing each of the participants as characters from their favorite movies or reality TV shows . Pick funny representations and remember to keep things light-hearted to avoid hurting anyone’s feelings.

3. Celebrity Lookalikes

For one of the most hilarious (and eye-opening) PowerPoint party idea s, you can’t go wrong with Two Truths and a Lie . When planning your game night , ask every participant to create a slideshow with two true statements and one that’s a lie. Use slides to give clues as to which ones are accurate and which one is false while the other guests try to guess. You might be surprised at what you learn!

14. Superhero Powers

Group of friends playing games outdoors

With this fun idea, share a presentation on who everyone would be as superheroes or what their secret power would be if they were a superhero . Think about their personality traits or physical strengths and don’t be afraid to be humorous and add some fun trivia when crafting the slideshow .

15. Psychic Reading or Zodiac Sign Accuracy

At your next PowerPoint night , look into your friends’ futures by creating a silly and uplifting psychic slideshow on where they’ll be in 10 years. Alternatively, you can make a presentation assessing the accuracy of each person’s zodiac sign — whether they’re a fiery Aries or a serene Aquarius.

16. Iconic Celebrity Couples

Compile a ranking of the most iconic celebrity couples from Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart to Beyonce and Jay Z. You can even make a slideshow of the most doomed celebrity couples or the ones with the best nicknames like Bennifer.

17. Red Flag Crushes

At your next in-person or virtual hangout, plan a PowerPoint party where you highlight your friend’s crushes and their obvious red flags. Have a ball giggling at the signs you should have seen or reminiscing about silly crushes from years ago.

18. Love Languages

Create a slideshow featuring the different love languages and which ones apply to each guest. You can also play this one with a significant other to delve into your personal approaches and find fun ways to meet each other’s needs based on your love languages .

Invite Guests to Join the Fun in Person or Online

With these PowerPoint party ideas, you’re sure to have a fun time laughing and enjoying silly slideshows . From (un)forgettable fashion choices to celebrity comparisons to superhero powers , there are plenty of entertaining presentations that’ll work whether you’re hanging out in person or virtually.

When you’re ready to invite guests, send fun digital invitations via email, text, or social media. Choose a design to match your theme and easily customize any template in just a few clicks. It really is that easy!

🧠  Enhanced Memorability

What is PowerPoint night?

A PowerPoint night is an interactive social event where friends present their PowerPoint slides on chosen topics (or the most obscure questions), creating a fun and engaging atmosphere for friends, family, or colleagues. Also known as PowerPoint parties, they can be hosted in person or through video calls.

A theme for the night is chosen, and each individual or group creates presentation decks about funny topics to present. Usually accompanied by lots of finger foods and drinks, it’s a refreshing change from the same old party games.

The possibilities are endless. Pick ideas from any category to suit the dynamics of your groups. Add drinking games. Personalize the ideas for specific jobs or niche interests. This is an activity that can be played by a lot of friends at once, so get creative!

Top 5 Slido Alternatives To Elevate Your Presentations

Here's how to host a poerpoint party on video chat to switch up the routine.

Virtual PowerPoint Parties Are Now A Thing, & They're A Great Way To Get Creative

Switching up your group calls can be as easy as hosting an out-of-the-box party. Some users have been creating fun PowerPoints to share with their friends — and it's aptly called, a PowerPoint party. These themed chat nights let you get some quality time in with your BFFs from a distance. If you're wondering where to start, here's how to host a PowerPoint party for a creative get-together.

Zoom PowerPoint party photos are began flooding the Twitterverse in early April 2020, and if you've seen them, you're probably wondering what it's all about. It's not clear where the recent trend originated, but it has emerged due to the ease of screen sharing features on video conferencing platforms such as Zoom. But unlike the PowerPoints you create in school, these aren't supposed to be entirely serious. Instead, people hosting PowerPoint parties are creating slideshows about subjects they enjoy, making their presentations comedic and entertaining, all while trying to convince their friends of their viewpoint.

To get going, first you'll need to get a group of friends to agree to join a PowerPoint party and explain how it works. If you'd like, you can make up your own rules by choosing a theme or keeping the options pretty open.

Next, you'll need to choose your video conferencing platform. While many users are using Zoom to host their PowerPoint parties , you can use any video chat service that lets you share your screen. This includes Skype , using Facebook Messenger's video chat extension for your computer, and Google Hangouts , to name a few.

Make sure everyone has a way to create a PowerPoint. They can use Microsoft Office if they have it or a free PowerPoint service such as Prezi or Canva . Once everyone has what they need to create a PowerPoint, set a time for your party. If you want to keep people's presentations shorter, you can enforce a time limit.

Finally, you'll get to the fun part, which is choosing a topic for your PowerPoint presentation. It can be literally anything, including random topics like the best cartoon characters or which Real Housewife is your favorite. It can be as enlightening or as ridiculous as you want. Some of these examples from Twitter users who've participated in PowerPoint parties might lend some ideas:

"Which members of One Direction could I defeat in martial combat?"

"Taco Bell foods and their moral alignments."

"Why HSM was not fabulous: a dissection of why Sharpay Evans was the true victim."

After you've chosen your PowerPoint topic, experience the joy of creativity by crafting your presentation using a combination of text, images, GIFs, videos, tweets, and more.

Finally, when the due date arrives and you're all logged onto your desired video conferencing platform, you can choose who is presenting first. When they're ready to share, they'll share their screen. For example, you can do this on Zoom by selecting which window you want your friends to see, and get started on the PowerPoint. On Google Hangouts, you can present and share your whole screen. At the end of your PowerPoint party, you can have a voting period to decide who gave the best or most convincing presentation.

It's a bummer when you can't together IRL with your pals, but PowerPoint parties are a great way to get your creativity flowing and foster your connections with your friends. What else brings people together like a healthy debate after a presentation on how Rose could have totally let Jack float on that door?

How to host a PowerPoint party and have a virtual game night using the Microsoft Office program

  • PowerPoint parties are a type of virtual party game that involves presenting a PowerPoint on a topic you're passionate about — or know little about.
  • You can host a PowerPoint party from any device that will run the Microsoft program, including computers, tablets, and smartphones.

In the world of remote gaming and virtual game nights, PowerPoint parties have become increasingly popular. But what exactly are they — and how do you host one?

Here's everything you need to know about the newest — and slightly odd — party game experience.

What is a PowerPoint party

A PowerPoint party is a relatively new trend utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint software for social fun instead of its usual business and academic associations.

Before the party, each participant prepares a PowerPoint presentation on a topic of their choice. During the party, participants take turns presenting their PowerPoint topic to the other partygoers for a set number of minutes. After presenting, the participant must be prepared to answer questions from the other partygoers.

The result is a unique social engagement that brings together strangers and old friends alike.

How to host a PowerPoint party

If you have the hardware required to connect a laptop to a TV (such as an HDMI cable or a Google Chromecast), you can easily host a PowerPoint party in your home or office.

But in the age of remote connection and the time of COVID-19, PowerPoint parties can easily be adapted explicitly for virtual gatherings. Applications like Skype , Zoom , and Google Meet allow many people to participate in the same video call.

You can also use them to share screens, making them perfect choices for remote PowerPoint parties. All you'd need to do is invite the attendees to join the video call.

Hosting and presentation tips for your next PowerPoint party

If you're considering hosting a PowerPoint party, here are a few tips and tricks to help make it a success.

Set house rules

Depending on the group you're hosting, you may want to set house rules for the presentations in order for everyone to enjoy themselves to the fullest. Consider establishing the amount of time each presentation runs well before the party begins so that participants can prepare accordingly.

You can set other various house rules, like "Everyone who attends must present." You might want presentations to adhere to a particular theme or avoid specific topics that might cause partygoers' discomfort. Or you might require all guests to wear silly hats because why not.

Pick a topic that's unique to your interests

Since you're going to be speaking at length about your topic, select one that you're deeply familiar with and passionate about. The best PowerPoint party topics are those which are fresh, compelling, and teach partygoers something they've never known before.

Don't take yourself too seriously

Remember, this is for fun! You don't have to worry about the depth of your presentation or what other partygoers will think. Just have fun and come prepared to learn something new about everyone else in the room.

PowerPoint party time: throw the virtual event of the year.

A PowerPoint party may sound like an oxymoron, or a trick your mum used to use to get you to do things. No, mum, bathing doesn’t become more fun if you call it a foam party.

Would we choose to sit alone at our computers and look at PowerPoint slides, if we didn’t have to? Yes. But would you choose to sit alone at your computers and look at PowerPoint slides, if you didn’t have to? Quite possibly not.

However, when there doesn’t seem to be much to celebrate, that’s the best time to do it. When the world gives you Video Conferencing, you sure as hell use it to make organised fun.

Has it really come to this?

Lockdown diary, day 3:

I’ve completed Netflix. My relationship status on Facebook has moved from “single” to “loving companionship with my sofa”. I found a small log in the garden and felt an immediate connection, as though he was sent to me by a higher being. I’ve drawn a face on him so I can look him in the eyes when we talk. I’ve eaten two kilograms of dried pasta, 16 cans of soup and something questionable in brine. I’ve spent many hours getting to know my new colleagues: Ben & Jerry. My pet log has begun to silently judge me. I fear something needs to change before this gets out of hand. That is a damn good idea, log. We should throw a party.

A PowerPoint party, in fact. Let’s party like it’s  1987.

You have gone mad. There’s no such thing as a PowerPoint party.

Wrong. You can’t tell me you don’t remember the  great PowerPoint party of 2017 . A group of heroes threw a soirée where each guest had three minutes to present slides on a subject they were passionate about. There were rules, there was drinking, it was a good time. But they were all in the same room.

Never fear. You could, technically, recreate Drink Talk Learn over VC, but if we keep repeating mistakes of the past, when will we find time to make new ones?

As we’ve had a bit of time on our hands, we’ve come up with some new ways you can entertain your friends through the medium of PowerPoint this Friday night. Heck, do it on a Tuesday. Days don’t exist anymore.

Three PowerPoint party ideas for your virtual event

1. most likely to….

We love using interactive polling software like  Vevox  at our presentation skills events, but they’re also perfect for remote presentations, like webinars and PowerPoint parties.

To kick this game off, give each participant ten points. On your first slide, pose a question to the group, such as “who’s most likely to break a bone on a night out?” and get them to vote, in secret, through the Vevox link.

Click to reveal the results and deduct a point from the person with the most votes. Whoever reaches 0 last, wins.

Bonus booze: Forget about that boring points nonsense and, each round, everyone has to take as many gulps of their drink as votes they receive.

2. Jeopardy

Jeopardy PowerPoint party

You can whip up a simple 6×6 grid in PowerPoint, hyperlink each square to a question slide, and start handing out big cash prizes. Or points, you could just hand out points.

Bonus booze: Instead of cash and points, design your slide to show an increasing number of drinks as you work down each column. If your PowerPoint party goers get the answer wrong, they have to drink, if they get it right, they get to choose someone else to take the fall.

3. PowerPub quiz

With our beloved pubs ripped out from under us, the only logical thing to do is create our own virtual reality boozer, fully equipped with karaoke machine, stale nuts, and a properly-executed quiz.

PowerPoint pub quiz title slide

Here’s how you can create and run your own PowerPoint party pub quiz.

Preparation is key

We know you’ve suddenly got more time on your hands than you know what to do with, but building a PowerPoint is probably still really low down on the list. So, we’ve gone and done that for you. Tick. You can download your Pub Quiz PowerPoint Template here .

The template comes with a selection of layouts, so you can include straight-up text questions, visual rounds, image comparisons, audio and video. The only limit is your own imagination. In case you’re lacking in that area, here are some of our favourite rounds:

Tagline round:

Using a selection of well-known and lesser-known taglines, ask your quizzers to name the brand behind the saying. You could put a visual spin on this and show a zoomed-in section of a logo instead.

powerpoint presentation party topics

Poor celebrity imitations:

Find the worst replicas, in any medium, of famous faces and see if your PowerPoint party animals can work out who the ‘artist’ was aiming for.

Famous face PPT pub quiz question

Absolute Twitter:

Ridiculous celebrity tweets are a joy to behold. Remove the offender’s information and see if your friends can figure out who would be daft enough to send those unedited thoughts out into the twittersphere. If you want to get more personal, scroll back a few years in your friends’ Facebook or Twitter accounts, and embarrass them with their deepest and most-cringeworthy thoughts from a time long ago.

Round 3 PPT pub zuiz

Odd one out:

Take four words or images and see who can figure out the link between all but one.

odd one out pub quiz question

What happens next?:

Show a trimmed-down video clip and ask your friends to guess what happens next. With the lack of live sport at the moment, we chose a surprisingly-tense marble race that had everyone shouting at their screens.

Predict the future PPT pub quiz round

Getting personal:

Dig out baby photos of your friends and see if they can guess which chubby cheeks belong to which player. If that’s going to be too easy for your group, search for celebrity baby photos instead.

Music to my ears:

For our audio round, we played ‘guess that comedian’ from a short soundbite, but you can adapt this to include TV theme tunes, song intros, famous speeches, the sound of your friends sleeping…

You can adapt this recipe to suit your own dietary requirements, but this is how we brought 22 Buffalo together from around the country to create one beautiful chocolate chip quiz-cuit.

Due to the number of participants, we decided to split into three teams and assigned a neutral party to each team, giving them the prestigious title of “Quizmaster”. The role of the Quizmaster was threefold.

First, and most important, they were required to wear any collage of fancy dress they could find.

Second, they each had a copy of the questions in PowerPoint to run through with their team.

And finally, they were in charge of collecting their team’s answers, recording them, and reporting back.

If everyone in your group wanted to be involved in the quizzing, you could create a Google Form instead, for the teams to send in their answers.

PowerPoint pub quiz teams

Did you have to create separate PowerPoint parties for each team?

No, that sounds faffy as hell. We use  Zoom for all our internal and client communications. Recently, our use of Zoom has gone through the roof and this software delivered once again on quiz night.

Within a Zoom meeting, you can create separate  breakout rooms . We simply created one breakout room per team and opened them for five minutes per round. This meant teams could chat through the questions in private, before they were thrust back into the main room to go through the answers with everybody else.

After seven adrenaline-fuelled rounds, each Quizmaster totted up the scores, passed them to Quizmaster General, Liz, and we waited to see who could claim bragging rights.

Drumroll please…

pub quiz winner

We demand a rematch.

Staying in isolation doesn’t mean we have to be alone. We’re all in this chaos together, so throw a PowerPoint party for all the other people who are cut off from the world right now. It may sound trivial (pun intended), but spreading joy and spending time with friends and family – in any way you can – should never be underestimated.

Let us know on social  if you have any other games you’d like to see turned into slides and we’ll see what we can do for our next trip to the PowerPub.

Simple presentation background ideas: elevate your visuals with minimalistic designs

Anete Ezera August 29, 2024

When you’re putting together a presentation, the background you select is key in setting the mood and making sure your content shines. While there are many different good presentation backgrounds that are bright and colorful, there’s a rising preference for simple presentation backgrounds. These clean designs can boost your message by minimizing distractions and making sure your content takes centre stage.

Bulb Concepts with Yellow Crumpled Paper Ball

In this article, we’ll delve into the advantages of using simple presentation backgrounds, specific scenarios where they shine, and how platforms like Prezi can elevate your presentations with their open canvas and dynamic tools.

The power of a simple presentation background

Choosing a backdrop for your presentation goes beyond selecting a color or a basic layout. It involves setting up an uncluttered environment that highlights your message effectively. Let’s explore the reasons why opting for a simple presentation background can improve your message.

Improved readability

A key advantage of using a simple presentation background is the readability it offers. Complicated or excessively intricate backgrounds can make the text challenging to read, leading your viewers struggling to comprehend your message. Conversely, a simplistic background guarantees that your text is easily readable, allowing your audience to concentrate on your content.

Reduced distractions

Having a simple presentation background can minimize distractions for your audience, which is crucial when sharing intricate details or holding their attention for a long time. Opting for a simple aesthetic background for presentation slides directs the focus toward the speaker and the content rather than on the background itself.

Senior businesswoman giving presentation to team. Male and female professionals are planning strategy in meeting. They are in board room at office. She is showing a business presentation theme and using the power of visual storytelling to convey the message.

Versatility

Simple presentation backgrounds offer flexibility. They can be customized to suit various presentation topics. Whether you’re showcasing a business pitch, a school assignment or an imaginative idea, a clean background can serve as the perfect backdrop for your material.

Timeless appeal

Trends in design come and go, but simplicity is timeless. A simple background for presentation slides ensures that your presentation won’t look outdated in a few months. It also conveys professionalism and can be tailored to fit any industry or topic.

What is the best background for a presentation?

When preparing a presentation, it’s best to opt for a background that’s straightforward, neat and doesn’t draw much attention. Opting for colors such as light grey or gentle blue is recommended as they offer a nice contrast with the text. It’s advisable to steer clear of designs or vibrant colors that may overshadow the content.

In case you decide to include images, make sure they’re subtle and relevant to the subject matter. Consistency plays a role here, so stick to the same background style across all slides to maintain a polished and coherent appearance.

Specific use cases for simple presentation backgrounds

Simple presentation backgrounds are suitable for a wide range of scenarios. Here are some specific instances where a minimalistic background works best:

Business presentations

In a corporate setting, professionalism is key. A simple, clean background helps maintain a professional tone and ensures that your data, graphs, and key points are easily readable.

For example, using a soft, neutral-toned background like this empty brown-beige studio room background can create a warm, welcoming atmosphere without distracting from the content.

Educational presentations

When students have to explain ideas, it’s important to keep things clear and straightforward. Using a simple background for presentations can make it easier for the audience to concentrate on the educational points without distractions.

A background with subtle textures, such as this simplistic aerial shot above Lake Dumbleyung, can provide a serene backdrop that doesn’t compete with the information being presented.

Creative and design presentations

When presenting creative work, such as design concepts or artistic projects, the background should complement rather than overshadow the content. A simple presentation background allows your creative elements to take center stage.

Consider using an abstract but subtle design like this abstract lights on a dark green background to add a touch of creativity without overwhelming your visuals.

Personal and inspirational presentations

Personal stories or inspirational talks benefit from backgrounds that evoke emotion without being overly complex. A minimalistic background with a hint of nature, like this colorful clouds at sunset, can create a peaceful and reflective atmosphere.

Product or service showcases

When showcasing a product or service, a simple presentation background can help highlight the subject without competing for attention.

For example, a rendering product background with a clean, neutral design is ideal for presentations focused on product demonstrations, allowing the product itself to be the star of the show. This type of background is especially useful in marketing presentations where the goal is to create a clear and compelling visual representation of the product.

Science and nature-themed presentations

For presentations centered around scientific concepts or natural phenomena, a background that subtly reflects the theme can be very effective.

Simple presentation background of a steam.

The soft-focused image of steam provides a simple yet evocative backdrop that can complement discussions on topics such as geology, environmental science, or even metaphorical concepts like transformation and change. This type of background adds depth to your presentation without overwhelming the content.

Youthful and creative presentations

For presentations aimed at younger audiences or those with a creative edge, a playful and vibrant background can help set the tone. This single paper airplane on a yellow background offers a whimsical yet simple design that’s perfect for educational, inspirational, or creative projects.

This type of background is particularly effective in presentations for students, where the goal is to engage and inspire while keeping the design straightforward and accessible.

Technology and innovation presentations

For presentations focused on technology, innovation, or data-driven topics, a background that subtly suggests complexity while remaining visually clean can be very effective.

This makes it ideal for discussing AI, networking, or futuristic advancements. The background brings a contemporary tech vibe to your presentation while keeping things simple and clear, ensuring your message stays prominent.

Leveraging Prezi for dynamic presentations

Prezi is a tool that distinguishes itself from slide-based presentations by providing a flexible canvas method. This special feature enables you to craft engaging presentations where the background contributes significantly to shaping the story.

Open canvas for creative freedom

Unlike traditional presentations where each slide is a separate entity, Prezi allows you to work with an open canvas . This means the background isn’t merely a fixed element but an essential component of the narrative. You have the freedom to navigate the canvas crafting a cohesive storytelling journey.

Dynamic panning and zooming for engaging storytelling

One remarkable aspect of Prezi is its panning and zooming feature. In contrast to slide-based presentations, where transitions occur from one slide to another, Prezi allows for navigation across the canvas. You can zoom in on details, and then pan out to reveal the broader context, transforming your presentation into an engaging storytelling experience . This interactive journey lets you evolve the background as you lead your audience through layers of information. The panning and zooming effects not only enhance appeal but also highlight important points and foster a more immersive experience for your viewers.

How to create the Best Thank You Slide for PPT in 2024

A laptop with thank you message along with three text areas to add contact information and a blue background

Importance of a Thank You Slide in Presentations

In the dynamic landscape of presentations, a Thank You PowerPoint template serves as the final touch that leaves a lasting impression on your audience. It’s not just a formality but a powerful tool to convey gratitude, reinforce key messages, and provide closure. This seemingly simple slide can enhance audience engagement and reflect the professionalism of the presenter.

Purpose and Benefits of a Thank You Slide

The primary purpose of thank you slides are to acknowledge your audience’s time and attention. It also offers an opportunity to summarize the presentation, provide contact information, and invite further interaction. A well-crafted Thank You PPT can make your presentation memorable and facilitate future communication.

Design Principles

Choosing the right template.

Selecting an appropriate template sets the tone for your slide. The template should align with the overall theme of your presentation and reflect your brand’s identity. PowerPoint offers a plethora of templates, but customization can help you stand out.

Color Schemes and Their Impact

Colors evoke emotions and can significantly impact how your slide is perceived. Opt for colors that complement your presentation palette. A harmonious color scheme can enhance readability and visual appeal.

Font Selection and Typography

Fonts play a crucial role in conveying your message effectively. Choose clean, professional fonts that are easy to read. Maintain consistency in font usage to ensure a cohesive look throughout your presentation.

Incorporating Brand Elements

Infuse with elements of your brand, such as logos, slogans, and color schemes. This not only reinforces brand recognition but also adds a touch of professionalism to your presentation.

Using High-Quality Images and Graphics

Visuals can significantly enhance the impact of your thank you presentation slide. Use high-quality images and graphics that are relevant to your presentation theme. Avoid generic stock photos and opt for visuals that add value to your message.

Content Tips

Crafting a memorable thank you message.

Your thank you message should be sincere and impactful. Avoid generic phrases and tailor your message to reflect the essence of your presentation. A personal touch can make your audience feel appreciated.

Personalization and Relevance

Personalize your thank-you for the presentation by addressing your audience directly. Mention key points discussed during the presentation and how they relate to your audience. This creates a sense of relevance and engagement.

Adding Contact Information

Include your contact information to encourage further interaction. This can include your email address, phone number, and physical address. Make sure the information is accurate and up-to-date.

Incorporating Social Media Links

Social media links provide additional channels for your audience to connect with you. Include icons and links to your social media profiles to expand your network and foster ongoing communication.

Visual Appeal

Balancing text and visuals.

Striking the right balance between text and visuals is key to an effective Thank You slide. Overloading the slide with text can be overwhelming, while too many visuals can be distracting. Aim for a harmonious blend that complements your message.

Using Animations and Transitions

Animations and transitions can add a dynamic element. Use them sparingly to highlight key points without overwhelming the audience. Subtle animations can enhance the visual appeal and keep your audience engaged.

Ensuring Readability and Accessibility

Ensure that your thank-you ppt is easy to read and accessible to all audience members. Use a legible font size and color contrast that meets accessibility standards. This ensures that everyone, including those with visual impairments, can appreciate your slide.

Consistency with Presentation Theme

Maintain consistency with the overall theme of your presentation. This includes color schemes, fonts, and visual elements. A cohesive professional thank you slide reinforces your message and enhances the professionalism of your presentation.

Advanced Techniques

Interactive elements.

Incorporate interactive elements to make your end slide more engaging. This can include clickable buttons, links to additional resources, or interactive forms for feedback. These elements encourage audience interaction and provide valuable insights.

Multimedia Integration

Integrate multimedia elements such as videos or audio clips to add depth to your last slide. A short video message can add a personal touch and make your gratitude more memorable.

Data Visualization

Use data visualization to highlight key points or achievements. Charts, graphs, and infographics can make complex information more digestible and visually appealing.

Infographics and Icons

Infographics and icons can simplify complex information and make your Thank You more engaging. Use them to illustrate key points and enhance the visual appeal of your slide.

Best Practices

Testing on different devices.

Test your end slide on various devices to ensure it looks great on all screens. This includes laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Adjust the design as necessary to ensure a consistent experience.

Gathering Feedback

Seek feedback from colleagues or peers to refine your last slide. Constructive criticism can help you identify areas for improvement and ensure your slide resonates with your audience.

Iteration and Improvement

Continuously iterate and improve based on feedback and changing trends. Regular updates keep your presentations fresh and relevant.

Staying Updated with Trends

Stay updated with the latest trends in presentation design. This includes new tools, techniques, and best practices. Keeping abreast of trends ensures your last slides remain modern and impactful.
