How to use ChatGPT to create a PowerPoint presentation

Now that we know ChatGPT helps create PowerPoint presentations, let's explore the different ways we can use it.

Feel free to explore the method you find most useful!

  • Use ChatGPT for Slides Outline and Content
  • Use ChatGPT to Create a PowerPoint Using VBA Codes
  • Use ChatGPT AIPRM Extension to create a PowerPoint
  • Use ChatGPT with an AI Presentation Tool

1. Use ChatGPT for Slides Outline and Content

ChatGPT can help you brainstorm and outline your slides. You can generate detailed content for each slide by providing key points to cover in your presentation.

Step 1: Ask ChatGPT for a Table of Contents

First, you need a strong prompt. It should clearly state the topic, audience, objective, and slide count to ensure the content is relevant, well-organized, and has the right tone.

Use this ChatGPT prompt format:

“As an expert in [field/topic], create an outline for a PowerPoint presentation on [list of topics] for [target audience]. The objective is [state the objective]. Structure it to fit [number] slides. Use a [tone/style] tone.”

Here’s an example:

ChatGPT's output for a PowerPoint presentation

Step 2: Refine the ChatGPT Output

Once the outline is created, you have a good starting point to refine the content. You can expand or reformulate the information on each slide. The goal is to help ChatGPT get the result you're looking for.

Use this ChatGPT prompt to improve the content:

"Please expand the information for each slide. Include interesting facts to enhance engagement and provide more value."

ChatGPT's second output for our PowerPoint presentation

Step 3: Add ChatGPT content to your PowerPoint

Once you have the content for your slides, you can transfer it directly to your PowerPoint presentation. Just copy and paste the content generated by ChatGPT, making sure you keep the structure.

Format the text by adjusting fonts and sizes to match your slide design. Here’s an example:

ChatGPT output for a PowerPoint presentation final result

You now have a great starting point. From here, You’ll need to add design elements and media, plus adjust the layout and content to enhance visual appeal.

2. Use ChatGPT to create a PowerPoint using VBA codes

By using ChatGPT to provide VBA code, you can streamline the process of creating presentations. But before we start, let's answer this question:

What is VBA?

VBA, or Visual Basic for Applications, is a programming language that automates tasks in Microsoft Office apps like PowerPoint. By using ChatGPT, you can quickly generate VBA code to create and customize PowerPoint presentations, making the process faster and easier.

Step 1: Ask ChatgPT for the VBA PowerPoint code

You can use a ChatGPT prompt like "Write me VBA PowerPoint codes on [topic]..." However, the more detailed your explanation of the content, the better the result will be. Here’s an example:

Write me a VBA code for a PowerPoint presentation on [list of topics] for [target audience]. As an expert in [field/topic], structure it to fit [number] slides with a [tone/style] tone. The objective is [state the objective].

Then, ChatGPT will provide an output like this:

VBA Code for a PowerPoint presentation on Digital Marketing

This is the code used to create a presentation in Powerpoint.

Step 2: Open PowerPoint and copy the VBA code

  • Open PowerPoint and press ALT + F11 to open the VBA editor.
  • Go to Insert > Module to create a new module.
  • Copy and paste the code into the module.

Using ChatGPT to create a PowerPoint using VBA codes

Step 3: Create and refine the PowerPoint Presentation

  • Press F5 to run the code and create the presentation.
  • Check the content and make changes as needed.

Use ChatGPT to create a PowerPoint using VBA codes

Of course, we will need to add images and media. If needed, you can ask ChatGPT for more information and repeat this process to generate a new VBA code.

3. Use ChatGPT AIPRM Extension to create a PowerPoint

This is one of the easiest methods to simplify your PowerPoint creation process. There's no need for any ChatGPT prompts. But first, let's answer this question:

What is AIRPRM?

AIPRM is an extension designed to enhance ChatGPT's capabilities for creating and refining content, including PowerPoint presentations.

This AI tool provides pre-made ChatGPT prompt templates to streamline your PowerPoint creation process. With AIPRM, users get automated suggestions, better formatting, and tailored content within the ChatGPT interface.

Using AIPRM Extension for PowerPoint

  • Step 1: Open your browser and search for "AIPRM ChatGPT prompts." You can use this link .
  • Step 2: Download and install the AIPRM extension.
  • Step 3: Log in to your ChatGPT account.

Once the extension is installed, your ChatGPT interface will have new options and templates. Here’s an example:

AIPRM ChatGPT Prompts

  • Step 4: Type “PowerPoint” in the search bar. This will give you a list of AIRPRM ChatGPT prompts for PowerPoint.

  • Press F5 to run the macro and create the presentation.

4. Use ChatGPT with an AI Presentation Tool

Step 1. choose your ai presentation tool:.

  • Research and choose the best AI presentation tool for your needs. Our last article, “ 10 Best AI Tools for Creating Impactful Presentations ,” can help you.

For this example, I will use Gamma. In our review, this AI maker scored 4.5/5 for ease of use. Additionally, it offers a free plan. Use this link to sign up.

Gamma AI Presentation Tool

Step 2. Ask ChatGPT for a Presentation Outline

  • First, you need a strong prompt. To ensure accuracy, I’ll reuse the prompt from method #1

Chatgpt output for a digital marketing presentation

  • Once you have the outline, you can refine and expand the content for each slide. The aim is to help ChatGPT generate the best results.

Use a ChatGPT prompt like this to improve the initial output:

"Please expand the information for each slide. Include interesting facts to enhance engagement and provide more value."

Step 4. Copy and paste the ChatGPT output into the AI tool

Since we're using Gamma for this example, here's what we'll do:

  • In Gamma, choose “ Paste in text .” You already have the outline from ChatGPT.
  • Copy and paste the ChatGPT prompt and click “ Continue .”
  • Set the number of “ Cards ” to match your slides.
  • Click “ Continue ”.

Using ChatGPT with Gamma AI Presentation Maker

Step 5. Generate and Refine Your PowerPoint Presentation

  • Select your favorite theme and click “ Generate .”
  • Wait a moment while Gamma AI generates the presentation.
  • Review the slides and refine the content.

Creating a presentation with ChatGPT and Gamma AI

You have a strong starting point. Enhance the visual appeal by adding media, adjusting the layout, and refining the content.

  • Use Specific Prompts: The more detailed your prompt, the better the result will be. You should clearly mention the topic, audience, objective, and the number of slides. This will keep the content relevant.
  • Understand ChatGPT’s Capabilities: ChatGPT excels at generating content but doesn't create visuals or handle design elements. Since Chat GPT doesn't have a presentation maker, you'll need to complement its outputs.
  • Review the Content: Always review and edit the generated content to ensure it is accurate, coherent, and aligned with your presentation goals. ChatGPT can make mistakes, so check important info.
  • Refine Your Output: Even if you're very specific, it's hard to get the perfect content for your presentation on the first try. Feel free to adjust your prompts based on initial outputs. The first outputs often highlight what is needed for the best outcome.
  • Integrate ChatGPT into Your Workflow: Refining an existing idea is easier than starting from scratch. Use ChatGPT to generate fresh ideas and create outlines for your presentation. You can tailor your prompts based on your specific experience and needs. Additionally, consider using VBA code to automate repetitive tasks like summarizing information and creating bullet points.

Why Use ChatGPT to Create PowerPoint Presentations?

I mean, why not?

Traditionally, creating a PowerPoint presentation required a considerable investment of time and effort. From drafting the content and refining the structure to selecting visuals and perfecting the design, each step demanded not only careful attention but also time.

Imagine having a co-pilot that is already ready at your service, translating the concepts or ideas you have in mind into a coherent presentation. This is precisely where ChatGPT emerges as a transformative tool. Of course, time-saving is just one aspect. There are, in fact, numerous other advantages to using ChatGPT for PowerPoint presentations:

  • Idea Exploration and Expansion : ChatGPT lends a helping hand in brainstorming and expanding upon ideas, ensuring that your presentation provides comprehensive information and a range of perspectives.
  • Clear and Concise Ideas : ChatGPT ensures that your ideas are communicated clearly and concisely, by assisting you in expressing complex concepts in simple terms.
  • Uniform Presentation Tone and Quality : ChatGPT helps maintain a consistent tone and quality throughout your presentation, elevating the overall coherence and professionalism of your content.
  • Polished Language : ChatGPT minimizes grammar and language errors, ultimately removing the worry of flaws and grammar errors in your presentations.
  • Compelling Storytelling : ChatGPT’s narrative capabilities also mean that you can craft compelling stories that deeply resonate with your audience.
  • Effortless Refinements : With ChatGPT’s swift content generation ability, it makes last-minute changes or revisions a quick and effortless process.
  • Enhanced Visual Elements : Going beyond text, ChatGPT can also propose relevant images, graphs, and charts that align with your narrative, enriching visual appeal and audience engagement.

How to Use ChatGPT To Create A PowerPoint Presentation

So, now that we know that ChatGPT can be used to create a PowerPoint presentation, let us dive straight into the different methods it can do so.

🔥 Method #1 Use ChatGPT to Create Slides Outline and Slides Content

The first method involves utilizing ChatGPT to formulate a presentation outline . By providing ChatGPT with the topic and key points you wish to cover in your presentation, ChatGPT can swiftly generate an organized structure for your presentation.

Here is an example:

ChatGPT creates outline for PowerPoint presentation

Once ChatGPT has generated the slides outline for you,  it becomes a scaffolding upon which you can build the content of each slide.

Creating PowerPoint Slides Content with ChatGPT

With a clear sequence of topics and subtopics in place, you can further harness ChatGPT’s capabilities by instructing it to expand on each of these points. By providing concise prompts or questions, you can guide ChatGPT to generate detailed content for each slide .

ChatGPT creates content for PowerPoint presentation

You can always ask ChatGPT to formulate the slides content in your desired format, and expand the details:

ChatGPT creates content in bullet point format for PowerPoint presentation

Once you have the slides content,  you can seamlessly transfer this material into your PowerPoint presentation. Copy and paste the AI-generated text onto the respective slides, following the outline and structure ChatGPT has established for you.

How to Insert A Word Document Into PowerPoint?

After pasting the slides content generated by ChatGPT into Microsoft Word,

Step 1: Open the Word document

Open the Word document you want to transform into a PowerPoint presentation in Word.

Alternatively, paste the slides content generated by ChatGPT into Microsoft Word.

Step 2: Format the text

How to Insert A Word Document Into PowerPoint Step 2

Clear all the existing formatting of the text and format the text in such a way that Heading 1 aligns with the slide heading, Heading 2 with the slide subheading and Heading 3 with the body text.

Step 3: Export to PowerPoint (Windows)

How to Insert A Word Document Into PowerPoint Step 3

If you are on Windows, go to file > export > export to PowerPoint presentation. Once that is done, select “Open Presentation”.

Step 4: Export to PowerPoint (Mac)

How to Insert A Word Document Into PowerPoint Step 4

If you are on Mac, save the document as a Rich Text Format (.rtf), and open PowerPoint and insert > outline.

That’s it! Here is the final product:

PowerPoint slides generated from Microsoft word document

Of course, this is a text-only presentation which still requires you to add design elements, media content, and adjust the layout for visual appeal.

🔥 Method #2 Use ChatGPT to Automate Presentation Creation Using VBA Codes

The next method simplifies the first approach into just a few clicks. It involves using ChatGPT to generate a series of VBA codes , which you can then add to PowerPoint to have them translated into individual slides . In other words, you don’t need to instruct ChatGPT to generate slide outlines, then create slide content, add them to Microsoft Word, and finally transfer them to PowerPoint.

But first, what is VBA?

VBA , or Visual Basic for Applications in short, is a Microsoft computer programming language which is used to facilitate automation of repetitive Microsoft suite data-processing functions, like generating custom graphs and reports. In this instance, VBA can also be used to automate the process of slides creation in PowerPoint using ChatGPT, an AI that can understand and process both human language and codes.

ChatGPT will generate codes that you can input in  Visual Basic Editor  in PowerPoint, an interface that allows you to write and edit custom scripts that automate actions in PowerPoint. Visual Basic Editor  is part of the Development tools in PowerPoint.

Here is a sample output :

ChatGPT creates PowerPoint presentation using VBA codes

Running VBA Codes on PowerPoint

Copy the codes generated by ChatGPT.

And open up the Visual Basic Editor interface in PowerPoint by going to Tools > Macro > Visual Basic Editor on Mac, or Developer > Visual Basic on Windows.

Visual Basic Editor PowerPoint

Then click “Insert Module”, paste the codes, then click “Play”.

Insert VBA codes using Module in PowerPoint

Here is the output :

PowerPoint presentation slides generated using ChatGPT VBA codes

Ok, I know what you are thinking. The slides look plain and basic. But fret not, as we know a way to generate quick designs and layouts in PowerPoint using  PowerPoint’s native AI-powered Designer .

Designing the Slides Using PowerPoint Designer

PowerPoint Designer enables you to effortlessly turn the plain-looking slides into a polished presentation, by adding images and offering layout and design suggestions.

What can PowerPoint Designer do?

  • Add photo and design to title slide
  • Turn text in the form of lists, processes, or timelines into a graphic
  • Organise images and texts into professional layouts
  • Provide layout suggestions

Here’s how you can access PowerPoint’s Designer. Simply head over to the Design tab in your PowerPoint ribbon and select the Designer pane on the right side of your screen.

And there you have it – an instantly polished-looking slide, all achieved with just a few clicks!

The output is exactly the same as what we get in method #2 when we instructed ChatGPT with our own prompt. Except in this case, you do not even need to spend time brainstorming on the prompt to provide to ChatGPT. AIRPRM has got that covered for you.

Create PowerPoint presentation using VBA codes with AIRPRM and ChatGPT

Once ChatGPT has generated the VBA codes, follow the exact same steps outlined in Method #2 to paste the code into the Visual Basic Editor in PowerPoint. Then, run the code to automate the process of generating slides.

🔥 Method #4 Use ChatGPT  to Create Slide Image Suggestions

AI-generated Image with ChatGPT prompt

Okay, at this stage, you might be wondering if it is worth using ChatGPT for creating PowerPoint presentations at all, considering that the output generated by ChatGPT so far is entirely text-based and lacks visual appeal. We encourage you to keep reading, as the fourth and final method involves utilizing ChatGPT to infuse your PowerPoint presentation with a layer of visual excitement.

While ChatGPT is fundamentally a text-based chatbot that cannot produce images, this method entails combining ChatGPT with text-to-art generator tools such as Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, Dall-E, and many more. The goal is to generate image suggestions that can seamlessly enhance your PowerPoint presentation.

Here is how you can use ChatGPT to add images to your slides once you have created the text-based content with ChatGPT’s help (using one of the methods above).

This prompt will guide ChatGPT in generating a list of prompts suitable for inputting into a text-to-art generator tool for image creation.

Once you are happy with the art or images generated by the text-to-art generator, then download the images to be included in your PowerPoint presentation. You can further enhance the layout or look of your slides with PowerPoint Designer.

PowerPoint Designer

We also recommend you to add interactive elements such as quizzes and games to your PowerPoint slides once you have created the content, as a study indicates that a majority of 68% of individuals hold the belief that interactive presentations leave a more lasting impression.

Make sure to be specific, as this helps the AI generate more focused content. Don't submit the prompt yet, or if you accidentally do just use the "Stop Generating" button to halt the process.

Step 2: Request an Outline

Once you've set the stage, request ChatGPT to create an outline for your presentation. For instance, you can say, "Please create a PowerPoint presentation outline based on the briefing I provided" at the end of your prompt or as your next prompt.

ChatGPT PowerPoint Outline Request

ChatGPT can recall what's been said in the chat thread, so you can refer back to your brief without repeating the same information.

Step 3: Review and Refine the Outline

After obtaining the initial outline, review it for coherence and relevance. If any point seems off, ask ChatGPT to revise it or provide additional information. ChatGPT works best with a back-and-forth process between you and the software. Treat it like another person on your team!

Step 4: Ask for Slide Notes

When you're satisfied with the outline, ask ChatGPT to generate slide notes for each point. You can do this by saying, "Please provide detailed notes for each point in the outline."

image7ChatGPT PowerPoint Outline Request

Again, you can ask ChatGPT to change the notes or correct them, or if you like you can edit them the old-fashioned way.

Now that you have the notes for every slide, the next step is to ask ChatGPT to create suitable text to go on each slide. Here I simply used the prompt "Please provide suitable text that I can put on each slide."

Since ChatGPT generally knows the formats of various media and styles, you'll get text that will fit on your slides while conveying the most essential info.

After creating your presentation outline and slide notes, it's time to bring your PowerPoint to life with visually captivating illustrations. MidJourney is a superb tool to help you with this, if you're looking for something artistic to have in your presentation. It won't however help you with a pie-chart or histogram, but you can make some pretty impactful imagery to represent a specific vibe or theme.

If you don't already know the basics of MidJourney, you'll have to head over to our MidJourney beginner's guide to review the general process.

For our small demo here, we'll start with a basic prompt, in this case, "computer technician working on a computer corporate cartoon."

MidJourney Corporate Cartoon

As you can see, MidJourney gives us four images that are all candidates for our presentation. You can click the corresponding "U" button to upscale any of the individual images in the grid. U1 and U2 represent the top row of images, and U3 and U4 the bottom two.

MidJourney Variation Buttons

You don't need to know any advanced MidJourney commands and methods to make neat imagery for your presentation, except for the custom aspect ratios.

Simply add "--ar W:H" at the end of your prompt, replacing "W" with the width and the "H" with the height.

MidJourney Aspect Ratio Settings

For example, I love making slides that are split 50/50 between the text and graphic. Since slides have a 16:9 aspect ratio, it means you can use "--ar 8:9" to get something that takes up exactly half of the slide.

Related: How Good is MidJourney at AI Art? We Compared All the Models

As of this writing, MidJourney. doesn't offer high levels of control over the images you get, but if you're particular about your images, try to use the same modifiers in your prompt. For example, we used "corporate cartoon" in the previous prompt, and by reusing with a different subject you'll usually get images that look thematically coherent. Remember that you can keep re-rolling the prompt if you don't get what you want at first, and you can use the "V" buttons to create variations of an image that was close but not quite there.

Now that you have the text and imagery for each slide, it's time to throw it together in a slide. Now you can apply your existing knowledge of Powerpoint (or the presentation software of your choice) to polish up the look and feel of your presentation.

PowerPoint AI MidJourney and ChatGPT Slide Example

Armed with this basic knowledge, you can use these AI tools to up your presentation same significantly, but there are some additional tips and tricks you can keep in mind for even better results:

  • Use detailed prompts: This is particularly true for ChatGPT, but it also counts for MidJourney. The more you put into the prompt, the more likely you'll get what you want.
  • Have a back-and-forth: For ChatGPT, in addition to a detailed prompt, you should have a back-and-forth conversation to refine and improve your presentation outline and notes.
  • Consider an MJ prompt creator: There are several online prompt creators for MidJourney made by third parties, that give you easy access to things like setting an aspect ratio, or defining a particular style or color palette. A good example is the MJ Prompt Tool by Noonshot, although it hasn't been update for a while. Searching for "MidJourney Prompt Generator" using the engine of your choice will give you a list with numerous similar tools, all of which have their own pros and cons, so try a couple.
  • Use Color Words in MidJourney: Put the colors you would like to feature in your image's prompts, and then use those same color words for all your illustrations to get a uniform color palette across your images.

The prompt-engineering rabbit hole goes as deep as you want it to, but these basic tips and tricks should be more than enough to transform your PowerPoint Game.

I'll be the first to admit that using ChatGPT and MidJourney like this feels like something of a kludge. However, generative AI tools are already being integrated into productivity software. For example, Canva has an AI image generator built right into it and Grammarly also includes generating AI now. Microsoft 365 itself has CoPilot, so its worth looking over what these tools can do for you when creating documents. One way or another, there's an AI assistant nearby to help you get stuff done more quickly.

The world’s favorite AI chatbot can write any kind of text – but creating documents and files is a different task entirely. OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 (or GPT-4 for ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Team, and ChatGPT Enterprise subscribers) artificial intelligence is taking the world by storm, and it looks like the AI chatbot’s capabilities extend further than we ever thought possible. So, what else can it do? In this article, we answer the question “Can ChatGPT make PowerPoint presentations with GPT-4?”, covering the simple steps in the process and the possible limitations of making PowerPoint with ChatGPT.

If you find this guide helpful, check out some of our other simple ChatGPT guides. For example, our “How to use ChatGPT” piece, where we outline the process of using ChatGPT’s functions effectively. Additionally, you could take a look at our “Why is ChatGPT not working?” troubleshooting guide, where we resolve some of the issues you may have been facing with the app.

Yes, ChatGPT can make PowerPoint presentations! ChatGPT can create .pptx files by using a plugin . Plugins are only accessible via a paid plan, for which you have three options. ChatGPT Plus , ChatGPT Team , and ChatGPT Enterprise subscriptions enable plugins for PowerPoint creation, and the plugins themselves are free.

To generate a Microsoft PowerPoint-compatible document using ChatGPT, follow these steps:

Open ChatGPT via a web browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge etc.), or via the  mobile app  for iOS and Android.

Subscribe to  ChatGPT Plus  (or  ChatGPT Enterprise ) if you aren’t already.

Switch to GPT-4 as your active model (it will default to this from that point on).

The foundation model (GPT-4) or any variant (GPT-4V or GPT-4 Turbo) will work.

Install any plugin that can export PPTX files from the ChatGPT plugin store. We’ll be using Slide Maker, which is published by  Level2Labs .

Enable that plugin. You can keep a maximum of 2 others enabled at the same time. Be aware that all enabled plugins can act on the output of your prompt.

Ask ChatGPT to make a PPTX file with whatever content you want!

Using ChatGPT to create PowerPoint presentations is easy. You can generate code with the AI chat bot which will make a presentation within Microsoft PowerPoint.

Here’s how you can do it:

Begin by visiting the ChatGPT website through your desktop or mobile browser, or use the dedicated apps for Android and iOS .

Request ChatGPT to generate a PowerPoint presentation, specifying the key details you need.

Articulate the information you require in your presentation. This includes the topic, content specifics, and any particular design preferences.

ChatGPT will utilize these details to create the PowerPoint presentation in a code format.

ChatGPT will present you with the code necessary to create your PowerPoint presentation. If ChatGPT initially hesitates or expresses uncertainty, ask for an example of what the code might look like.

This can prompt the AI to produce the required code. Once received, copy this code for later use.

Open PowerPoint and go to File > Options > Customize the Ribbon .

In the options menu, find the ‘Developer’ checkbox under the main tab and select it.

Click ‘OK’ to save changes and enable the Developer tab in the PowerPoint interface.

In PowerPoint, click on the now visible Developer tab. Then, select Developer > Macros.

Here, choose a name for your macro and click ‘Create’.

This action will open a ‘module’ window.

In the module window that opens, paste the previously copied code from ChatGPT.

This code is the blueprint for your PowerPoint presentation.

After pasting the code, click on the Run button to execute the macro. This action will automatically generate the PowerPoint presentation based on the code provided by ChatGPT.

Once the macro has run, your PowerPoint presentation will be created. Review the generated slides and make any necessary edits to align with your specific needs and preferences.

fter finalizing your edits, save the PowerPoint presentation. It is now ready to be used for your intended purpose, whether it be a business meeting, educational lecture, or any other scenario.

The code generated will be VBA code. VBA stands for Visual Basic for Application, and is a proprietary programming language of Microsoft, developed for use within Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, and Access.

No, ChatGPT cannot use Microsoft PowerPoint. This is because there is no MS PowerPoint plugin in the ChatGPT Plugin Store.

In other words, you cannot use PowerPoint through ChatGPT — but you can use ChatGPT through PowerPoint!

If that’s obtusely worded, let me put it another way: You can’t put PowerPoint inside of ChatGPT. However, you can put ChatGPT (or at least the GPT-4 LLM) inside of PowerPoint.

Following a cumulative $13 billion USD investment from Microsoft into ChatGPT creator OpenAI , the AI chatbot’s LLM ( large language model ) is actually integrated into a variety of Microsoft software products.

For example, ChatGPT is integrated into Microsoft Azure . The AI integration includes “ Dall-E 2 , GPT-3.5 , Codex,” and a range of other neural networks that allow for “ summarizing content , generating suggested email copy, and even helping with software programming questions . Now with ChatGPT in preview in Azure OpenAI Service, developers can integrate custom AI-powered experiences directly into their own applications,” states the official blog.

Here is the resulting VBA code ChatGPT gave us. Can ChatGPT create PowerPoint presentations? See for yourself!

Outside of creating the file itself, ChatGPT can make content for your presentations. With just a few simple queries, the natural language processing tool can be taken to task on various tasks related to generating high-quality text content. Here we’ll explain how it does this, how to create your deck, and some of the advantages of using ChatGPT for the content creation process.

Chat GPT uses advanced algorithms to analyze the data provided by the user and generate a presentation that suits their needs. The algorithm analyzes the content and creates visually appealing slides based on the information provided. It does this via code which you can then copy and paste into PowerPoint (more on this below).

Honestly. yes, it’s pretty easy. I’m aware there’s a lot of information here, but generating a legible and sensible document with ChatGPT (or any other AI) is only getting easier.

The best AI for the job is still ChatGPT, due to a combination of three things: Firstly, strong conceptual understanding of language, and well-tuned NLP. Secondly, access to the internet, plus a newly refreshed training data sample which keeps answers up-to-date. And lastly, the plugin integration required to output any major filetype you could want.

Using ChatGPT for creating PowerPoint presentations has several advantages, such as:

  • Time-saving:

Creating a PowerPoint presentation from scratch can be time-consuming. Chat GPT can help you create a presentation in minutes, saving time and effort.

  • Customization:

Moreover, ChatGPT allows you to customize your presentation to your liking. You can choose from various templates, colors, fonts, and backgrounds to create a presentation that meets your needs.

Furthermore, ChatGPT ensures the accuracy of the information presented in the slides. It checks for errors and ensures that the content is accurate and relevant.

  • Consistency:

ChatGPT ensures that all the slides in the presentation are consistent in terms of design and layout. This makes the presentation more visually appealing and professional.

  • Speaker notes

With the right prompt, ChatGPT can help you create engaging speaker notes to accompany your slide decks. In addition, ChatGPT can provide valuable feedback and insights on your entire presentation. Apply digital marketing best practices such as SEO keywords and copywriting to your presentation for better results.

ChatGPT’s capabilities are expanding all the time, as will this list. For example, the most recent UX update which sees a “ Custom Instructions ” button added for all users. While user experience improvements are nice, in its strictest sense, this feature isn’t a new capability but rather an ease of use (sometimes called a quality of life) update.

The point is that there are other deep learning models that can provide advantages even beyond ChatGPT. If you’ve not yet had a chance to play around with Bing Chat (Microsoft) or Bard (Google), and ChatGPT isn’t giving you what you need, we’d recommend trying the same prompts with these competitors. The main advantage that Microsoft’s Bing Chat has over ChatGPT is the integration of GPT-4 for free users, whereas OpenAI’s chatbot is limited to GPT-3.5 .

While ChatGPT is a great tool for creating PowerPoint presentations, it does have some limitations. These limitations include the following:

  • Limited customization:

While ChatGPT allows you to customize your presentation, the options are limited. You may not be able to create a highly customized presentation. The workaround for this involves using the Python programming language, which can automate the creation of PowerPoint slides with or without AI involved. Indeed, there is a method to enhance ChatGPT’s abilities relating to PowerPoint presentation customization involving an open-source code library called the Python PPTX module. Using python-pptx is a technical process that requires some level of programming know-how and is not ideal for most users simply trying to create a presentation.

  • Limited input:

ChatGPT relies on the information provided by the user. If the input is limited, the quality of the presentation may be affected.

  • Language limitations:

Moreover, ChatGPT is trained in specific languages. If you need a presentation in a language that ChatGPT is not proficient in, it may not be able to generate the presentation. While the bulk of the training data that GPT-4 is based on was in the English language, it does include multilingual support. ChatGPT can speak multiple human languages as well as programming languages. The AI chatbot currently supports English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Arabic, and Chinese, each with at least reasonable fluency.

As a solution to these ChatGPT limitations, you can try a chatbot builder platform such as Microsoft Bot Framework, Botpress, and Dialogflow. These ChatGPT alternatives are all supported for chatbot integration in Microsoft software products.

ChatGPT can summarise the content of any document, provided you copy and paste that content into the prompt window. If instead, you’d prefer the AI system to summarise the document without needing to access it yourself, you’ll need something akin to ChatPDF.

ChatPDF is an example of a ChatGPT plugin that we’ve written about previously. While it won’t help in this specific case, it does demonstrate that plugins that can affect entire documents from the outside (without you manually copying and pasting content) do exist. This is a much more systematic approach than having to open each document and choose what to copy and paste, especially for large quantities of documents.

The short answer is yes, ChatGPT can generate PowerPoint presentations. However, you’ll need a ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Team, or ChatGPT Enterprise subscription plan, in addition to a plugin that enables this functionality. Thankfully, ChatGPT plugins are free and easy to install.

In conclusion, ChatGPT is a powerful large language model (LLM) that can help you create PowerPoint presentations in minutes. It’s time-saving, accurate, and easy to use. This functionality will improve over time with the introduction of Copilot, an OpenAI application, to the Microsoft 365 suite of apps. Spanning Outlook and the ubiquitous Microsoft Word, it’s not only your PowerPoint file that can benefit from the AI-powered tool integration. Now that ChatGPT has the GPT-4V VLM (Visual language model) it can even generate image content along with your PPTX file!

While it does have some limitations, it’s a great option for those who need a professional-looking presentation quickly. With Chat GPT, you can focus on the content while it takes care of the design. Try it out today and see how it can help you create stunning presentations.

Using ChatGPT to Create PowerPoint Presentation

Data Privacy : OpenAI's data privacy policy clearly states that they do not use any user data submitted through their API to train their models.

Background : By default, the ChatGPT API doesn't recall past conversations. It considers each API request as a fresh chat so it doesn't remember your previous conversation when providing answers. To enable conversation history, you can click on " Chat " button in the plug-in. You can watch the demo video below to see it in action.

Step 1 : When you click on the "Chat" button for the first time, a presentation file is generated based on the topic you input.

Step 2 : Afterwards, you can click the "Chat" button again and provide instructions on how to improve the presentation file. Instructions can include adding more details or adding/removing specific slides.

Click on "Reset" button to clear prior conversation history and start a new chat.

You have two options to style powerpoint presentation which is generated using ChatGPT add-in.

  • Custom Template: To style your own template/theme and set it in the add-in, click the checkbox labeled "Use my own theme". It accepts two file formats .potx and .thmx.
  • Office Themes: You can select inbuilt office themes by clicking the Design tab in the ribbon.

In the API, there is a parameter called "temperature" which ranges from 0 to 2. If you want ChatGPT to generate creative content for presentation, you would set the temperature to a higher value (for example 1.2), whereas decreasing the value leads to a more focused output. You can adjust this parameter by clicking on the "Fine Tune Response" button in the ChatGPT tab on the ribbon.

1. How to Update API Key: Solution: Click the " Update Key " button to specify the Model Type and API Key. This step is necessary when you have removed the current API key and generated a new one. You might also need to do this if you want to change the Model Type, such as switching from GPT-3.5 to GPT-4. After completing the update, you can view the updated API Key and Model Type by clicking on the " Check Key " button.

2. Error: You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details . Solution: This error says that you need to upgrade to a paid account. It charges you based on your API usage (not monthly or annual plan). OpenAI calls it a ' pay as you go ' plan. Go to OpenAI's website . Log in, go to Billing , and sign up for Pay as you go with your debit or credit card. If it still doesn't work, it means that either you are making a large number of requests to ChatGPT or your current quota limit has been set too low.

how to use chatgpt to create powerpoint presentation

I have a run-time error "5" when creating a PPT. Any suggestions? Thank you.

how to use chatgpt to create powerpoint presentation

Which operating system are you using? What's the version of MS PowerPoint? What's the topic you entered in the input box? Did it ever work for you?

Hi, I got the same issue. which version of powerpoint can support the add in? any requirement of the version? thanks Deepanshu

There is no such requirement. Which operating system and PowerPoint version you are using?

To fix this error, I created a separate add-in to make it work for macOS. I have updated the article accordingly.

how to use chatgpt to create powerpoint presentation

I've followed the steps closely and made sure to have fee options set up for both ChatGPT and Open AI. I am getting the Model GPT-4 does not exist. Is this due to a waiting list? If so, how will I know that I can access GPT-4 once I am added? Thanks so much for all you do - excellent site!

You'll be notified via email from OpenAI. I got the access to GPT-4 API last week only. I hope GPT-3.5 API is working for you.

Hmmmm... I wasnt able to download the GPT-3.5 plug-in. Is there a link out there? And thank you so much for the immediate reply. You sir... are awesome.

The addin shown in this article works for both GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 API. Click on "Update API Key" button and selects GPT-3.5 from the drop down and enter your existing API Key.

ahhhhhh... you're so kind to a newbie. Again, another testimony to your value. Much appreciate your help.

Generate a new API Key. Also if you don't have a paid account set up, do it.

I am using Mac. When I try to add API key in the dialog box, it only adds the letter 'v'. The shortcut for Past in Mac is Command+V, so I think it is not recognising Command key. Please help.

This issue doesn't seem to related to the add-in. Try typing the API KEY manually if paste command doesn't work somehow

great content and super clear instructions. wondering if there is a way to connect the conversations with chatGPT to the ppt? the "chat" function seems to just be adding data but sure from where. also i have the gpt 4 plug in and wondering if it's able to generate images through ppt as well?

No. ChatGPT does not allow connecting its website to any external software directly. It can only be done via API.

how to use chatgpt to create powerpoint presentation

Introduction

Creating presentations often requires you to craft a story line your audiences can easily understand and clearly deliver your key message. But getting these ideal results is hard, especially when you’re on a time crunch. That’s where AI (ChatGPT, to be specific) comes in. As a PowerPoint plugin, ChatGPT could help you brainstorm ideas, generate content, refine your slides, and even suggest design improvements—all without leaving your PowerPoint workspace. We’ve tried it, and it works!

However, to truly utilize the potential of this integration, you’ll need the right plugins that connect ChatGPT with PowerPoint, and so far, there’s no official answer from OpenAI, so… we go to the next best thing: third-party integrations in the Microsoft Add-in Store !

AddIn Store ChatGPT

So far, you can expect ChatGPT to do the following for you:

  • Generate content ideas
  • Refine slide text
  • Improve visuals
  • Create presenter notes
  • Work with your data
  • Summarize documents

In this article, we’ll dive into the top 5 PowerPoint plugins for ChatGPT. These tools will empower you to create presentations that are not only visually appealing but also rich in content and tailored to your audience’s needs

With AI becoming increasingly advanced, it’s only a matter of time for us to start seeing more sophisticated uses in PowerPoint. Some are already here, and some might come sooner than expected. So, let’s jump right in, ensuring we don’t miss the good bits!

1. ChatGPT for PowerPoint

ChatGPT for PowerPoint

This is your holy grail of ChatGPT-based PowerPoint plugins. Since it’s directly integrated, it’ll be faster, and easier, especially for creating slides without having to sacrifice quality or customization.

Even though it’s not an official ChatGPT plugin by OpenAI, the goal here is to provide a one-stop AI solution for professionals, educators, and virtually any serial PowerPoint user.

You can expect to jump right in with a $2.99 monthly subscription , with a further 19% discount if you decide to pay annually, making the package a $29/yr steal.

How It Works

Start by opening a new or existing PowerPoint presentation.

  • Once the plugin is installed, you’ll find a new tab called “ChatGPT” in the ribbon.

ChatGPT for PowerPoint Interface and Launch

  • Click on one of the three creation options (more on this later) to begin the process. Enter the topic you want to present, specify the number of slides, and hit submit.

ChatGPT for PowerPoint Selecting a Topic

  • The AI will generate the content outline for each slide, and if you don’t like any slides, you can simply delete them and add your own. You can also specify the length of the content.

ChatGPT for PowerPoint Additional Configurations

After the slides are generated, you can further refine them using PowerPoint’s built-in design features. The plugin allows you to select themes from either Office’s built-in options or your custom templates.

Creation Options

There are three main ways to create using ChatGPT for PowerPoint:

  • Create from Topic: Here, you can leave everything to ChatGPT. Just give it your topic, specify the slide count, and let it come up with a presentation for you.
  • Create from Text: You’re not always guaranteed to have a topic ready, and that’s ok. Just feed it the text you’d want to mention in your presentation, and let it rip! You can also use the text prompt to include specific instructions.
  • Create from YouTube: Yes, the plugin is perfectly capable of understanding video context! So, just give it the link, and let it create!

Core Selling Points

  • Content Creation : The primary feature of this plugin is the automatic generation of presentation content based on simple prompts. This feature is particularly useful for folks who need to create presentations quickly but still want to maintain high quality and relevance.
  • Language Support : The plugin supports content translation into multiple languages, making it suitable for global presentations.
  • Slides Selector : With each prompt, you can specify the number of slides to be created, meaning there’s no guess-work for what you’ll get.

Use Cases and Tips

If you’re looking to automate the entire process of creating a presentation, you can start by using ChatGPT to outline your content and then refine the slides using PowerPoint’s design tools.

If you encounter issues, such as an API quota limit, the plugin provides solutions like updating the API key or adjusting your usage plan.

Additionally, for more creative presentations, you can manually adjust the AI’s output by reordering slides or adding custom content.

After generating the slides, you can refine them using PowerPoint’s built-in tools. Sally Suite offers suggestions for improving your presentation, but you have full control over the final output.

Sally Suite

If you’re working on a team project, Sally Suite supports collaborative editing, allowing multiple users to work on the presentation simultaneously. The main difference is that instead of a one-off command, Sally Suite uses web agents that act on a task to complete it.

This is particularly useful for projects requiring input from various stakeholders.

  • Agent-Based Functionality : Sally Suite uses specialized AI agents that perform specific tasks in PowerPoint, such as creating slides, generating charts, and formatting content to align with your presentation’s theme. This agent-based design allows for highly targeted assistance, making your workflow more efficient.

  • Ease of Use : Installing Sally Suite is straightforward through the Office Store. Once installed, it integrates into the PowerPoint ribbon, making it easily accessible. You can activate various agents by typing specific commands like @chart to create a chart or @translate to translate content.

3. SheetSavvy AI PowerPoint Plugin

SheetSavvy AI PowerPoint Plugin

This is a weird one as it focuses on enhancing spreadsheet tasks. But that oddity is also Sheet Savvy’ s main strength, especially if you want to create an informatice data-centric presentation in the most efficient way possible. So, when does the “AI” aspect kick in? The answer lies in its features.

SheetSavvy AI offers tiered pricing plans to accommodate various user needs, from individual freelancers to large enterprises. The plans start at $4.99 per month for premium features, with higher tiers available that provide more advanced functionalities like unlimited formula generation and enhanced data integration capabilities. There’s also a free plan using GPT 3.5 Turbo.

Usage in PowerPoint

Start by entering the data or topic you want to present. SheetSavvy AI will generate slides with appropriate content and design elements based on your input.

SheetSavvy AI PowerPoint Plugin

You can further customize these slides using PowerPoint’s built-in tools or follow AI-driven suggestions for layout and design enhancements.

SheetSavvy AI PowerPoint Plugin

If your presentation relies heavily on data from Excel , SheetSavvy AI can automatically create charts, graphs, and other visual aids directly from your datasets. This feature is particularly useful for financial reports, sales presentations, or any scenario where data visualization is key.

SheetSavvy AI PowerPoint Plugin

As the AI integrates live data, any changes in your data sources will automatically reflect in your slides, ensuring that your presentation is always current.

  • Intelligent Content Generation : SheetSavvy AI can convert raw data and text inputs into polished PowerPoint slides. Whether you’re summarizing complex data or need to generate multiple slides based on specific criteria, the AI handles the heavy lifting. This feature is particularly useful for users who regularly work with large datasets and need to present this information in an understandable format.
  • Formula Automation : For spreadsheet-related tasks, SheetSavvy AI can automatically generate and explain complex formulas. This capability is integrated into the PowerPoint feature set, allowing for seamless transitions from data analysis to presentation, making it easier to visualize and explain complex data within your slides.
  • Data Integration : The tool can connect with various data sources, importing live data into your presentations. This ensures that the information in your slides is always up-to-date, reducing the need for manual updates and allowing for real-time data analysis during presentations.

Considerations

A mathematical AI tool is nifty, but it isn’t perfect. Here’s why:

  • While SheetSavvy AI is highly effective, it’s essential to double-check the AI-generated content, especially when dealing with sensitive or critical data. AI can sometimes produce errors, so manual review is recommended.
  • Although SheetSavvy AI offers significant automation, some tasks still require manual intervention or alternative solutions, particularly if you need highly customized outputs.

4. R2 Copilot: Private ChatGPT

R2 Copilot: Private ChatGPT

R2 Copilot: Private ChatGPT is an AI-powered assistant specifically designed to enhance privacy and security while integrating advanced natural language processing capabilities into your Microsoft PowerPoint presentations.

This makes it particularly suitable for businesses handling sensitive information.
  • Data Security : The add-in operates within a secure environment, ensuring that your presentations comply with internal security policies and regulations. This feature is crucial for industries that require strict confidentiality, such as finance, healthcare, and legal sectors.

Microsoft Copilot

Microsoft Copilot is an advanced AI-powered assistant integrated into PowerPoint, designed to enhance productivity by automating the creation, editing, and organization of presentations.

There’s a flat recurring fee of $30 a month, and that’s it! It integrates with all of your office applications, and brings Microsoft’s enterprise-grade security, privacy, and compliance with it.

How to enable Copilot in PowerPoint (Easy guide with screenshots)

Learn the quickest way to find, purchase, and enable Microsoft Copilot and use AI tools in PowerPoint

If you’re reading this page, you’re one of many frustrated users struggling with what should be a basic task: enabling Copilot in PowerPoint.

Believe it or not, enabling PowerPoint is a common issue that stems from a confusing design that makes it hard to purchase its very own AI companion. We’ve been there too, and it took us a bit of time to navigate Microsoft’s many account, profile, and sales pages to finally come up with a quick way of launching Copilot in PowerPoint and other Microsoft 365 apps.

To make your life easier, we’ll walk you through the crucial steps of subscribing to the right Copilot plan, after which the companion icon should appear on your PowerPoint ribbon. We’ll also explain how to make a presentation quickly with Copilot, and show you an AI alternative that could be a better fit for creating more professional slide decks.

How to subscribe to Copilot Pro from your Microsoft 365 account

Before you can use Copilot in PowerPoint (or any other Microsoft app), you’ll need a Copilot Pro subscription — the regular Copilot does not work in PowerPoint. The process can get a bit convoluted, so we’ll explain it in detail below.

  • Sign in to your Microsoft 365 account , and click on the circle with your initials in the top right corner. In the menu that opens, click on “My Microsoft account”.

how to use chatgpt to create powerpoint presentation

  • Find and subscribe to Copilot Pro in your Microsoft account. Hopefully, you’ll see a large icon with a button that says “Try Copilot Pro” or “Get Copilot Pro.” If you do, click on it and subscribe to the service.

Can’t see Copilot Pro in your Microsoft 365 account? Here’s what you do

Sometimes, you won’t see any buttons or icons labeled “Copilot Pro” in your Microsoft 365 account, even though the regular (free) Copilot may show up. In this case, don’t waste your time sifting through the Microsoft account in hopes of finding the elusive AI tool. Instead, simply type “Copilot Pro” in Google search and click on the “Copilot Pro Plan & Pricing” result .

You should finally see a window that invites you to try Microsoft’s premium AI assistant, so go ahead and click “Start your free trial,” then subscribe to the service.

Once you see the screen below, Copilot Pro should become available in your PowerPoint app.

How to enable Copilot Pro in the web-based PowerPoint app

  • Restart PowerPoint. After signing up for Copilot Pro, it’s best to restart Microsoft 365. Once you’ve signed out and back in, go ahead and open the PowerPoint app:

  • Look for Copilot on the ribbon. The Copilot icon should show up on the right hand side on both the Single Line Ribbon:

And on the Classic Ribbon:

You’ve now enabled Copilot on your PowerPoint app! Go ahead and launch it by clicking on the Copilot button.

How to enable Copilot on the PowerPoint desktop app

Once you’ve subscribed, the Copilot icon should show up on the desktop PowerPoint app as well. Simply restart the program, then look for Copilot on the ribbon:

Now you can click on the Copilot icon and start using the assistant to make PowerPoint presentations.

Using Copilot to create PowerPoint presentations

With Copilot Pro, you can auto-generate PowerPoint presentations using AI.

Here’s how:

  •   Launch Copilot in PowerPoint by clicking on the corresponding icon in the ribbon.

how to use chatgpt to create powerpoint presentation

  • Choose “Create a presentation about” in the Copilot interface. Then, enter a prompt describing the presentation in the Copilot chat window:

  • Review the slide deck. Your presentation should show up in a few minutes. At this point, you can review the slide content and imagery for accuracy and relevance — this is an important step you shouldn’t skip. The deck may look sleek at a glance, but the content may be a bit simplistic and repetitive, and the images may be less relevant than you’d want them to be (or absent altogether):

Best PowerPoint AI slide maker alternative to Copilot

Copilot is a decent starting point tool for making AI presentations. However, if you feel like the Copilot slides don't meet the bar of professionalism you need for a work or school presentation, try out Plus AI.

Plus AI is an add-on for PowerPoint and Google Slides that creates professionally-designed slide decks in minutes. Below, we’ll input use the same prompt in Plus that we used with Copilot above. And here is the slide deck Plus AI created:

how to use chatgpt to create powerpoint presentation

In addition to providing a prompt to Plus AI , you can also use Plus AI to create a slide deck based on an uploaded document . This option (which Copilot lacks) allows you to create more information-rich presentations in which the AI maker creates slide content based on the data you specify.

FAQs on using Copilot in PowerPoint

Why can’t i see the copilot icon in powerpoint .

Here are three possible reasons you don’t see the Copilot icon in PowerPoint:

  • You don’t have a Pro subscription: The free version of Copilot comes with Microsoft 365. However, to get the AI assistant working in PowerPoint (or other apps in the Microsoft ecosystem) you’ll need to upgrade to the paid Pro version.
  • You haven’t restarted PowerPoint after subscribing: Once you’ve subscribed to Copilot Pro, you need to restart PowerPoint; otherwise, the AI assistant may not show up on the slide maker’s ribbon.
  • Your desktop PowerPoint app is out of date: Copilot may fail to show up if your PowerPoint app hasn’t updated. Make sure your settings allow automatic updates to avoid this scenario.

How to get access to Microsoft Copilot?

You can get access to both the free Copilot and the paid Copilot Pro version through your Microsoft 365 account . Log into Microsoft 365, click on your initials in the top right corner, then follow the “My Microsoft account” link in the menu that appears. Copilot should show up on the page that opens.

If you already have the Pro subscription, you can also access Copilot from the top ribbon of PowerPoint, Excel, and other apps in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.

Is Copilot free with Microsoft 365?

There is a free version of Copilot that included with a Microsoft 365 subscription. This free AI assistant functions as a chatbot that can answer basic queries and create images.

However, the free Copilot does not work in apps such as PowerPoint. If you want an AI companion to help you make PowerPoint presentations, you’ll need to subscribe to Copilot Pro, which costs $30/month for business use.

Alternatively, you can opt for a more comprehensive AI-powered slide maker, like Plus AI. Plus AI’s feature-packed Pro plan enables you to auto-generate entire presentation-ready slide decks in just minutes and costs only $20 per month .

Enabling Copilot in PowerPoint: Final Thoughts

Once you get over the initial hurdles of subscribing for Copilot Pro, adding Microsoft’s AI companion to PowerPoint is a breeze. If you want to learn more about making presentations using AI — and checking out some worthy alternatives to Copilot — check out Plus AI’s resource library .

Speaker 1: It's just so awesome seeing all the AI tools come out to help scientists, and this is another one that I think can help you. It's called MidJourney. MidJourney is an AI image processing and creation AI, and it is doing amazing things, and this is how I think it can help you design research posters, get some awesome images for anything that is, you know, at a conference that you're presenting. Here is how we do it. Okay, so over here we've got MidJourney. MidJourney.com. If we reload, you can see, oh, they've got fancy, nice animations, but ultimately, if we click on the showcase here, this is the sort of image that it is capable of producing, and that's just absolutely insane to me. But of course, my first kind of thought was, well, how can this help scientists? So at first, I went over and I started to ask it to produce poster templates, and to be honest with you, it wasn't very good, but then I had an amazing thought. So all I had to do was head over to our best friend, ChatGPT. So over here, I just said, create a prompt for AI to create a research poster template, and this is what it said. Design a visually appealing and informative research poster, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and I copied and pasted that prompt into MidJourney. So here, you can see it's actually done a pretty good job at producing a research poster. There's probably two designs on here that I like. The first one is this top one, this bottom one. This is also okay as well. Now, of course, if you click on it and you look in detail, you can actually sort of like read that text because it's just like weird alien text, but you can start using this to look at designs that you like, colors that you like, and it takes all of that design thinking work out, and I am no good at designing stuff, so this was perfect. So I selected this bottom one here, and there are a few options. You can upscale or you can have variation. So I upscaled version four, and this is what we ended up with, a perfectly reasonable but slightly boring research poster. Now, what I can do to make sure that this is useful for me, now, in its current state, I could go into something like Photopea, and I could use content aware to remove some of the text, but really, that's not really useful at the moment. I think the best way of using this at the moment is to extract the colors and use your favorite design app, whether it's PowerPoint, whether or not it's Canva, whether or not it's Photoshop, whatever it is, but it's about using this as inspiration for your work and your poster. So there's a couple of ways that we can do this. I headed over to html-color.codes, and what you can do is drag and drop an image in, and then you can just select the colors, and you can see that the colors turn up here, which is fantastic if you're like me and have no idea about design and colors. You can get the colors, and this becomes now your design palette, which is really, really simple and easy to use. Now, the thing is is that if we head back to the Discord chat for mid-journey, I asked it here to produce some other ones for me, and so this is pretty bad, I think. It's very cluttered. There's lots going on. Maybe this one is the best one. So let me just show you very quickly how you can go through that entire process. So if we head over to chat GPT, and we say create a prompt for an AI to create a science research poster with limited colors, let's see what happens there. Here we're just going to get a nice little prompt. No more than three to four colors. Okay, good. So it should include blah, blah, blah, all of that, optimize the use of these limited colors along with the appropriate fonts, graphics, and white space to create a visually appealing, ooh, I like that. So we're going to grab all of that, and we're going to go over to mid-journey, and you type in forward slash imagine, which is a prompt, and then you put in your prompt, and then like all AI tools, it's a case of waiting. Okay, when it first pops up, you'll get this, and slowly it will kind of like render the four images, the four options that you've got. And to be honest, I've not had an issue when using chat GPT to create a prompt for a science poster. When I was trying to do it on my own, I think I was just overthinking it. But here we can see, all right, what's it done? It's done not too bad of a job, too crazy, a little bit crazy. Okay, maybe this fourth one is the best one for us at the moment. It's got obvious areas that we can sort of like put data. It's got headings. So maybe this is the best one. But once again, you can just sort of like try different prompts until you find ones that you like. And also I can say, okay, well, I like this fourth one. Give me variations on that fourth one. So I click V4, and now I kind of start, yeah, just generating those styles very similar to that and heading down sort of the direction that I want this to take. Oh, it never looks good when it first pops up, by the way. I always get a little bit scared. But ultimately, once it's all done, we can click open and then just make a decision on which ones we like. Okay, so I kind of like this fourth one. I like that here we could put away, put like an image or some like takeaway key messages. Here is where we can have the data. And so overall, it's done a pretty good job. But overall, okay, I like version, what's that, three. So I'm going to upscale and that's the U. I'm going to upscale image three and then we're going to put it into the color code finder thing. All I have to do here is go to open in browser. Then it kicks out this massive image and then I can just go here and say save image as and then I'm going to save it at my desktop. And then all I have to do is go over to this color codes from images. That's html-color.codes and I just need to sort of like put in my poster design. So let's put that in there and it will say, well, here's some common colors and this is probably a good palette to start with. But if you wanted specific ones, you could go and just click. Okay, I want this one. I want this one. I want this one and I like this blue and I like the dark blue. Okay, and there's your limited sort of color palette. You want to stick to sort of like, you know, three to five colors but that's about it. Now that's really good. It's giving you design things but Mid Journey does so much better. Just watch this. Posters need to be visually attractive and that will draw people to your poster as they're wobbling around drunk in the conference poster session. So I like to look and put in, you know, research posters into Google and look, this one clearly is very visually appealing. Now I know who made this. This is from Animate Your Science, Tulio Rossi and I really like that he's got this massive image here. It really draws you to the poster. So we can now use Mid Journey to create an awesome image for our research poster. So let's have a look at the showcase and see what styles we've got. I want something a little bit just simple, nothing too cartoony, maybe a bit blocky. So how about something, no, what do I like? Come on Stakes, make a decision. There's so many good things. So let's go here. I want this style and I can see the prompt here and it's in the style of Emiliano Ponzi. Okay, so I'm going to take that and I'm going to say, let's say I want solar cells. So I'm going to go imagine give me a solar cell in the style of Emiliano Ponzi in blue and yellow illuminated by the sun. Okay, some spelling mistakes, but we got there. All right, it's actually done a bloody great job. So I can see myself using this one as a really nice feature image. Maybe not this one, not this one. So let's have a look at more variations of number one. And the great thing is you can do this with all sorts of different styles. You can do it with an artist that you really like. You can do it with a style that you found. All right, so here are the different ones it's kicked out. And as you can see, they're all pretty similar and then it's up to me to choose the best one that I want to include on my poster as the feature image. Now, the thing is, is that you are only limited by your imagination for this and I can see AI becoming a very important tool, not only in terms of helping scientists find literature and write stuff, but also in designing really captivating, attention-grabbing posters. You can even put this into PowerPoint presentations. You can even ask Midjourney to create a simple PowerPoint presentation template for you using the similar process of getting chat GPT to do a prompt and then putting it into Midjourney. The combinations and the ability to sort of like design is just got so much easier and I think you should start using this in your workflow when you are creating posters, when you're creating presentations, anything that needs to be visually appealing while you're presenting your research. Use this. So that's how you can use AI to help you communicate your science and produce research posters, produce PowerPoint templates and importantly, produce that one real important eye-grabbing image that you can put on your poster and it's just got easier. Now, Midjourney has got a free sort of like version but I paid to get more access to their program and their AI. So there is a free one that you can use and once you pass that limit, you do need to pay but completely worth it and for a lot of you to be honest, I think the free version is all you'll really need. 66 ChatGPT Prompts for UX Design to Try in 2024

Jenny Romanchuk

Published: September 02, 2024

I think even birds on the wire already know that ChatGPT has made a big impact in many fields.

And UX design is no exception. It’s amazing for getting user insights and helps a lot with research and testing.

Honestly, I was skeptical of ChatGPT for such purposes, thinking it didn’t live up to the hype. Then I realized the problem isn’t the tool — it’s how one uses it.

So, if you’re a UX designer running into the same issues, it’s time to learn how to write good prompts and get the best out of ChatGPT.

Save these 66 examples cause they’ll save you. And your time.

How Chat GPT Can Help with UX Design

How to use ux design chatgpt prompts to gain precise results (+ examples), 50 chatgpt prompts for ux design.

ChatGPT can be a helping hand in different stages of the UX design process. Here are some specific use cases:

1. Ideation and Brainstorming

When creating a new mobile app, ChatGPT can suggest cool features like voice controls, personalized recommendations, or game-like elements.

For a website redesign, it can help by proposing different layouts, color schemes, types of images, and fonts, so you can easily compare your options.

“Our visuals should not be beholden to stock imagery and Photoshop modifications. Our visuals should be a direct reflection of the people, places, and experiences we are designing for,” says Greg Apper, Chief Exploration Officer at Superunknown Studios .

Apper says that combining ChatGPT with Midjourney grants his team this superpower.

“We can construct ChatGPTs to translate persona demographics, goals, lifestyle, aesthetic preferences, and Day in the Life short stories into precise, bespoke Midjourney prompts,” Apper says.

2. User Research and Testing

ChatGPT can help create detailed user personas by generating realistic profiles and scenarios from user data and research. That’s one of the reasons why I like it so much.

It can also assist in drafting great survey questions to gather useful feedback from users. And, of course, it can analyze and summarize user feedback from surveys, interviews, or usability tests, making everything quick and easy.

3. Prototyping and Wireframing

ChatGPT can generate placeholder content for prototypes, giving designers a glimpse of the final product. It can simulate user interactions and create responsive prototypes.

I especially love it for simulated feedback, which helps spot issues and areas for improvement.

4. Accessibility and Inclusivity

ChatGPT can identify potential accessibility barriers in designs that we often overlook or don’t notice.

It can suggest ways to improve accessibility and make designs more usable for people with disabilities.

And if you‘re having trouble creating content that’s clear and easy to understand for everyone, including those with cognitive or language impairments, ChatGPT can help again.

Be clear and specific.

When you’re crafting prompts, be clear and specific. The more detail you provide, the better ChatGPT can understand and respond to your needs. Vague but also broad questions might lead to generic answers that don’t fully address your situation.

Make sure to provide important details in a logical order, but avoid writing long paragraphs.

6 ways to write better ChatGPT prompts - and get the results you want faster

david-gewirtz

ChatGPT is the generative artificial intelligence (AI) tool that's taken the world by storm. While there's always the possibility it will simply make stuff up , there's a lot you can do when crafting prompts to ensure the best possible outcome. That's what we'll be exploring in this how-to.

In this article, I'll show you how to write prompts that encourage the large language model (LLM) that powers  ChatGPT to provide the best possible answers.

Also: I've tested dozens of AI chatbots since ChatGPT's debut. Here's my new top pick

Writing effective prompts, known as prompt engineering, has even become a  highly-paid discipline . Who knows? These tips could help you build the skills to become a prompt engineer. Apparently, these gigs can pay from $175,000 to $335,000 per year.

How to write effective ChatGPT prompts

1. talk to the ai like you would a person.

One of the more interesting things I had to get used to when working with ChatGPT is that you don't program it; you talk to it. As a formally trained programmer, I've had to abandon many habits when engaging with AI. Talking to it (and with it) requires a mindset shift.

When I say talk to it like a person, I mean talk to it like you would a coworker or team member. If that's hard to do, give it a name. Alexa is taken, so maybe think of it as Bob. This naming helps because when you talk to Bob, you might include conversational details and anecdotes that give your story texture.

Also:   How to use ChatGPT to write code

When you're talking to a person, it would be natural for them to miss your point initially and require clarification or veer away from the topic at hand and need to be wrangled back. You might need to fill in the backstory for them or restate complex questions based on the answers they give you.

This is called interactive prompting. Don't be afraid to ask ChatGPT multi-step questions: ask, get a response, and based on that response, ask another question. I've done this myself, sometimes 10 or 20 times in a row, and gotten very powerful results. Think of this as having a conversation with ChatGPT.

2. Set the stage and provide context

Writing a ChatGPT prompt is more than just asking a one-sentence question. It often involves providing relevant background information to set the context of the query.

Let's say that you want to prepare for a marathon (for the record, I do not run, dance, or jump -- this is merely an example). You could ask ChatGPT:

How can I prepare for a marathon?

However, you'll get a far more nuanced answer if you add that you're training for your first marathon. Try this instead:

I am a beginner runner and have never run a marathon before, but I want to complete one in six months. How can I prepare for a marathon?

By giving the AI more information, you're helping it return a more focused answer.  Here are two more examples of questions that provide context:

I am planning to travel to Spain in a few months and would like to learn some basic Spanish to help me communicate with local residents. I am looking for online resources that are suitable for beginners and provide a structured and comprehensive approach to learning the language. Can you recommend some online resources for learning Spanish as a beginner?

In this case, rather than just asking about learning resources, the context helps focus the AI on learning how to communicate on the ground with local residents. Here's another example:

I am a business owner interested in exploring how blockchain technology can be used to improve supply chain efficiency and transparency. I am looking for a clear and concise explanation of the technology and examples of how it has been used in the context of supply chain management. Can you explain the concept of blockchain technology and its potential applications in supply chain management?

In this example, rather than just asking for information on blockchain and its workings, the focus is specifically on blockchain for supply chain efficiency and how it might be used in a real-world scenario.

Also: The most popular programming languages in 2024 (and what that even means)

Lastly, let's get into how to construct a detailed prompt.

One note: I limit the answer to 500 words because ChatGPT sometimes breaks when asked to produce somewhere between 500 and 700 words, leaving stories mid-sentence and not resuming properly when asked to continue. I hope future versions provide longer answers because premises like this can generate fun story beginnings:

Write a short story for me, no more than 500 words. The story takes place in 2339, in Boston. The entire story takes place inside a Victorian-style bookstore that wouldn't be out of place in Diagon Alley. Inside the store are the following characters, all human: The proprietor: make this person interesting and a bit unusual, give them a name and at least one skill or characteristic that influences their backstory and possibly influences the entire short story. The helper: this is a clerk in the store. His name is Todd. The customer and his friend: Two customers came into the store together, Jackson and Ophelia. Jackson is dressed as if he's going to a Steampunk convention, while Ophelia is clearly coming home from her day working in a professional office. Another customer is Evangeline, a regular customer in the store, in her mid-40s. Yet another customer is Archibald, a man who could be anywhere from 40 to 70 years old. He has a mysterious air about himself and seems both somewhat grandiose and secretive. There is something about Archibald that makes the others uncomfortable. A typical concept in retail sales is that there's always more inventory "in the back," where there's a storeroom for additional goods that might not be shown on the shelves where customers browse. The premise of this story is that there is something very unusual about this store's "in the back." Put it all together and tell something compelling and fun.

You can see how the detail provides more for the AI to work with. First, feed "Write me a story about a bookstore" into ChatGPT and see what it gives you. Then feed in the above prompt, and you'll see the difference.

3. Tell the AI to assume an identity or profession

One of ChatGPT's coolest features is that it can write from the point of view of a specific person or profession. In a previous article, I showed how you can make ChatGPT write like a pirate or Shakespeare , but you can also have it write like a teacher, a marketing executive, a fiction writer -- anyone you want.

Also: Have 10 hours? IBM will train you in AI fundamentals - for free

For example, I can ask ChatGPT to describe the Amazon Echo smart home device from the point of view of a product manager, a caregiver, or a journalist in three separate prompts:

From the point of view of its product manager, describe the Amazon Echo Alexa device. From the point of view of an adult child caring for an elderly parent, describe the Amazon Echo Alexa device. From the point of view of a journalist, describe the Amazon Echo Alexa device.

Try dropping these three prompts into ChatGPT to see its complete response.

I've pulled a few lines from ChatGPT's responses so you can see how it interprets different perspectives.  From the product manager identity:  I can confidently say that this is one of the most innovative and revolutionary products in the smart home industry.

From the caregiver identity:  The device's ability to set reminders and alarms can be particularly helpful for elderly individuals who may have trouble remembering to take their medication or attend appointments.

Also:  How to use Claude (and how it's different from ChatGPT)

And from the journalist identity:  From a journalistic perspective, the Echo has made headlines due to privacy concerns surrounding the collection and storage of user data.

You can see how different identities allow the AI to provide different perspectives as part of its response. To expand this, you can let the AI do a thought experiment. Let's look at some of the issues that went into the creation of something like Alexa:

The year is 2012. Siri has been out for the iPhone for about a year, but nothing like an Alexa smart home device has been released. The scene is an Amazon board meeting where the Echo smart assistant based on Alexa has just been proposed.  Provide the arguments, pro and con, that board members at that meeting would have been likely to discuss as part of their process of deciding whether or not to approve spending to invest in developing the device.  Feel free to also include participation by engineering design experts and product champions, if that provides more comprehensive perspective.

It's also good to know that making minor changes to your prompts can significantly change ChatGPT's response. For example, when I changed the phrase, "Provide the arguments, pro and con, that..." to "Provide the pro and con arguments as dialogue, that...," ChatGPT rewrote its answer, switching from a list of enumerated pros and cons to an actual dialogue between participants.

4. Keep ChatGPT on track

As mentioned above, ChatGPT tends to go off the rails, lose track of the discussion, or completely fabricate answers.

There are a few techniques you can use to help keep it on track and honest.

One of my favorite things to do is ask ChatGPT to justify its responses. I'll use phrases like "Why do you think that?" or "What evidence supports your answer?" The AI will often apologize for making stuff up and come back with a new answer. Other times, it might give you some useful information about its reasoning path. In any case, don't forget to apply  the tips I provide for having ChatGPT cite sources .

Also:  My two favorite ChatGPT Plus features and the remarkable things I can do with them

If you have a fairly long conversation with ChatGPT, you'll start to notice that the AI loses the thread. Not that that's unique to AIs -- even in extended conversations with humans, someone is bound to get lost. That said, you can gently guide the AI back on track by reminding it what the topic is and what you're trying to explore.

I've had some luck by telling the AI to  re-read my prompt . Basically, the technique is to issue a prompt, then tell the AI something like: "re-read this," and follow that up with the exact prompt passed earlier. You could refine or add to the prompt if you want, and see what happens. The idea is that re-reading forces the AI to rethink and clarify what it just read.

5. Tell the AI to re-read the prompt.

I've had some luck by telling the AI to re-read my prompt. Basically, the technique is to issue a prompt, then tell the AI something like: "re-read this," and follow that up with the exact prompt passed earlier. You could refine or add to the prompt if you want, and see what happens. The idea is that re-reading forces the AI to rethink and clarify what it just read.

Also: Google's Gems are a gentle introduction to AI prompt engineering

This may seem silly, but think about the analog in human conversation. You're talking to someone, even right in the middle of a deep conversation. But their eyes seem blank and they're expression is a million miles away. Whether they suddenly began to daydream about getting another cup of coffee or your conversation set off a long dormant memory, it's clear they're not following along.

So, you repeat your statement. Sometimes you do it with annoyance, but, "hey, did you hear me say..." is not uncommon, right? So, telling the AI, "re-read the prompt one more time: I am a beginner runner and have never run a marathon before, but I want to complete one in six months. How can I prepare for a marathon?" may bring the AI back on track and get it to become more engaged.

Here's a fascinating academic paper on the topic. Well worth reading...and re-reading.

6. Don't be afraid to play and experiment

One of the best ways to up your skill at this craft is to play around with what the chatbot can do.

Try feeding ChatGPT a variety of interesting prompts to see what it will do with them. Then change them up and see what happens. Here are five to get you started:

  • Imagine you are a raindrop falling from the sky during a thunderstorm. Describe your journey from the moment you form in the cloud to the moment you hit the ground. What do you see, feel, and experience?
  • You are a toy that has been left behind in an attic for decades. Narrate your feelings, memories of playtimes past, and your hopes of being rediscovered.
  • Write the final diary entry of a time traveler who has decided to settle down in a specific era, explaining why they chose that time and what they've learned from their travels.
  • Imagine a dialogue between two unlikely objects, like a teacup and a wristwatch, discussing the daily routines and challenges they face.
  • Describe a day in an ant colony from the perspective of an ant. Dive deep into the politics, challenges, and social structures of the ant world.

Also:  If you want a career in AI, start with these 5 steps

Pay attention not only to what the AI generates but how it generates what it does, what mistakes it makes, and where it seems to run into limits. All of that detail will help you expand your prompting horizons.

More prompt-writing tips

  • Feel free to re-ask the question. ChatGPT will often change its answer with each ask.
  • Make small changes to your prompts to guide it into giving you a better answer.
  • ChatGPT will retain its awareness of previous conversations as long as the current page is open. If you leave that page, it will lose awareness. To be clear, ChatGPT will also sometimes lose the thread of the conversation without reason, so be aware you may need to start over from time to time.
  • Similarly, opening a new page will start the discussion with fresh responses.
  • Be sure to specify the length of the response you want. Answers longer than about 500 words sometimes break down.
  • You can correct and clarify prompts based on how the AI answered previously. If it's misinterpreting you, you may be able to just tell it what it missed and continue.
  • Rephrase questions if ChatGPT doesn't want to answer what you're asking. Use personas to elicit answers that it might not otherwise want to give.
  • If you want sources cited , tell it to support or justify its answers.
  • ChatGPT custom instructions are now available to free users. You can  give ChatGPT a set of prompts that are always available , so you don't have to retype them.
  • Keep experimenting.
  • Consider getting the ChatGPT Plus subscription . You'll get more time to interact with the AI before it shuts you down and asks you to wait for another session.
  • Try asking the same question of Gemini  (formerly Bard) or Copilot (formerly Bing Chat). Both will interpret your prompts differently and answer differently. This is effectively getting a second opinion on your prompt, and can give you alternate perspectives.
  • Ask for examples. If you want to see how well ChatGPT understands what you're asking for, ask it, "Can you give me three examples of how that works?" or similar questions.
  • Ask it to repeat parts of your original requests back to you. For example, if you feed it an article to analyze, you can tell it something like, "Just to be sure you understand, please echo back the first three headlines," or "I want to be sure you understand what I mean, so summarize the main conflict discussed in this article."
  • Sometimes ChatGPT just fails. Keep trying, but also be willing to give up and move on to other tools. It's not perfect...yet.

What type of prompts work best with ChatGPT?

Part of what makes ChatGPT so compelling is you can ask it almost anything. That said, keep in mind that it's designed to provide written answers. If you want a list of websites, you're better off talking to Google.

Also:  How to use DALL-E 3 in ChatGPT

If you want some form of computation, talk to Wolfram Alpha . Give ChatGPT open-ended prompts, encourage creativity, and don't be afraid to share personal experiences or emotions. Plus, keep in mind that the AI's knowledge ends in 2021  for ChatGPT 3.5 and December 2023 for ChatGPT 4 in ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT 4o, which is available in both Plus and free modes.

How can I adjust the complexity of ChatGPT responses?

You can directly specify the complexity level by including it in your prompt. Add "... at a high school level" or "... at a level intended for a Ph.D. to understand" to the end of your question. You can also increase the complexity of output by increasing the richness of your input. The more you provide in your prompt, the more detailed and nuanced ChatGPT's response will be. You can also include other specific instructions, like "Give me a summary," "Explain in detail," or "Provide a technical description."

Also:  How does ChatGPT actually work?

You can also pre-define profiles. For example, you could say "When evaluating something for a manager, assume an individual with a four-year business college education, a lack of detailed technical understanding, and a fairly limited attention span, who likes to get answers that are clear and concise. When evaluating something for a programmer, assume considerable technical knowledge, an enjoyment of geek and science fiction references, and a desire for a complete answer. Accuracy is deeply important to programmers, so double-check your work."

If you ask ChatGPT to "explain C++ to a manager" and "explain C++ to a programmer," you'll see how the responses differ.

How can I adjust the creativity level of ChatGPT's responses?

In the same way that you can adjust the complexity level, you can adjust the creativity level. It's a matter of providing a prompt that guides the AI in that direction. For example, use "please include creative, open-ended responses" or "please provide factual, concise replies" in your prompts.

What do I do if ChatGPT refuses to answer or I don't like its answer?

There are some guardrails built into ChatGPT. It tends to shut down if you ask it political questions, for example. That's what's built into the system. While you might be able to tease out an answer, it's probably not going to provide great value. That said, feel free to keep trying with different phrasing or perspectives.
