Create an Assignment

On this page :

Create a New Assignment

You can create one assignment at a time as you progress through the term, or you can set up assignments for the entire term before the term starts. Grade calculations are not skewed if you create assignments before entering scores. The final grade displayed next to a student's name on the Scoresheet reflects only the assignments that you have scored already.

  • Click Create , then choose Assignment .
  • From the Assignment tab, click Select by Groups or Select by Classes to create an assignment for selected student groups or classes. By default, all students in selected classes receive the assignment unless you select a specific group.
  • Select classes or groups.
  • Choose the Score Type for the assignment.
  • Select Count in Traditional Final Grade if you want to include the assignment in the final grade calculation.
  • Choose a due date for the assignment. If you chose multiple classes, click Per Class to assign different due dates for each class, if needed.
  • The Description provides information about the category to administrators, parents, and students. Enter the description in plain text or HTML. You can also copy and paste content from a text document.

If you do not want to create an assignment for an entire class, select Students , then choose the students who should receive the assignment.

  • Optionally, to create an assignment for a student group, add a Filter , then choose Student Groups .
  • Select the appropriate student group.

Click Apply .

If you chose Hide pre-registered students , then Pre-registered displays next to a student name.

Labels that indicate Pre-registered or Dropped students are only available for classes in a single section.

  • Click Show Selected to display all standards currently applied to the assignment.
  • Click Show All , then select the standards you want to associate with this assignment. Use the Filter to limit the number of standards that display.

Select Auto-Calculate Assignment Standards Scores to calculate standards scores from assignment scores automatically.

You cannot choose Auto-Calculate Assignment Standards Scores if you choose the Collected Only score type.

  • Select Count in Grade next to selected standards to be counted in standards grades.
  • Choose from the Publish Assignments options.
  • Select Publish Scores to share the assignment and standards scores. Clear the Publish Scores selection if you want to complete grading for all students before revealing grades.
  • Click Save .
  • Click Score Assignment to begin scoring the assignment.
  • Optionally, click Duplicate to copy the assignment or click Delete to delete the assignment.

Teachers receive an alert when you save changes to an assignment if the changes impact assignments shared with other classes.

Create a Duplicate Assignment

To save time, duplicate existing assignments. You can also copy existing assignments to different classes using the Copy Assignments feature.

  • Choose Grading on the main navigation menu, then choose Assignment List .
  • Click Edit next to the assignment name.
  • Click Duplicate .
  • Edit the assignment details.

Score Types

You can choose different score types for individual categories, but choosing one method and using it consistently when scoring assignments makes analysis of student performance easier.

When assigning specific score types to a category or assignment, choose from the following scoring options:

  • Points – Record all scores as points (for example, 25 out of 25, 8 out of 10, 50 out of 100).
  • Percent – Record all scores as percentage values (for example, 100%, 80%, 50%).
  • Grade Scale – Record all scores as values from the grade scale (for example, A, B, F or 4, 3, 1)

Collected Only – Record all scores using the collected score indicator. This type has no score value and does not count toward the final grade.

You cannot choose to Auto-Calculate Assignment Standards Scores if you choose the Collected Only score type.

After choosing the score type for a category, all assignments you create in that category are scored using that score type by default. You can change the default setting when you create individual assignments.
