Entrepreneurship Dissertation Topics

Published by Carmen Troy at January 4th, 2023 , Revised On May 16, 2024

Choosing the right topic for your dissertation is extremely important. For both an undergraduate and postgraduate degree, the dissertation is worth a large number of credits. Your dissertation project is going to take a lot of time to complete. This is why it’s best to choose a topic that’s both interesting and unique.

The structure is extremely important in a dissertation . Each sentence should be relevant and contribute to the research argument. It should be a high-quality piece of academic work. That’s why, when choosing the right topic, it’s important not to be vague. Broad topics make it harder for you to draw brief and relevant conclusions.

Similarly, being too narrow with your topic will make it hard for you to expand on your arguments. Conclusively, your dissertation topic should be as objective as possible with a realistic scope. It’s best to think about the subject matter from an outside perspective to better grasp the strength of your topic. Discussing the topic with your tutor and other knowledgeable people can also help you get more insight into the matter.

Research is your biggest ally and will help you ensure that the topic you are choosing is the right one.

How to Choose Your Dissertation Topic

When deciding on your topic, consider the message you want to send with your title. It’s not just a catch-all phrase for calling your study. It also serves as a concise summary of your complete body of work. It should be able to express the most important aspects of your research and provide a clear picture of what’s to come.

Choose your words and phrases with care. Each word must be significant. Your title should be of a fair length to convey your point while remaining concise and unobtrusive. Clarity is necessary. Each character in the title has a place and a purpose, with no extraneous words.

It’s possible that you’ll have to follow academic rules. Some subjects of study, for example, may enable compound titles or primary subtitles. Maintain your concentration. The title should be brief but informative. It should state the purpose of your study.

Stick to the format given by your school of choice. In a title for a work of this grade, there is usually no room for humour. Save the humour for another occasion. A tight write-up that is information-based, accurate, perfectly reflects your topic, and coherently explains your aim of the research is best for a dissertation.

For most students, coming up with a dissertation topic in entrepreneurship might be a difficult process. Fortunately, students can gain ideas and inspiration by looking at outsourcing, evaluating corporate enterprises, nation-state aggressiveness, or asking whether entrepreneurs are born or made. As can be seen above, there are a plethora of fascinating topics that centre around being an entrepreneur and running a firm.

Using these topic ideas in a broad sense will help you build a title that complements your content for your unique topic. They are just intended to be used as a guideline and should not be used in their entirety. As they say, experience is the best teacher, so use these samples to practice moulding your words into engaging and effective titles.

Business/Management Dissertation & Theses

While the ideas we’ve presented above are a decent starting point for finding a business-related research topic, they are fairly generic and non-specific. So, it helps to look at actual dissertations and theses to see how this all comes together.

Below, we’ve included a selection of research projects from various management-related degree programs (e.g., MBAs, DBAs, etc.) to help refine your thinking. These are actual dissertations and theses, written as part of Master’s and PhD-level programs, so they can provide some useful insight as to what a research topic looks like in practice.

That is to say, to create a top-notch research topic, you must be precise and target a specific context with specific variables of interest . In other words, you need to identify a clear, well-justified research gap.

Innovative Thesis Topics for MBA Graduates: Navigating the Future of Business

Innovative Thesis Topics for MBA Graduates: Navigating the Future of Business

In the ever-evolving realm of business, innovation stands as a pillar of growth and adaptation. MBA graduates are uniquely positioned to lead this charge, equipped with advanced knowledge and strategic skills. This article delves into innovative thesis topics for MBA graduates, offering a glimpse into the future of business and the influential role these individuals play in shaping it.

Key Takeaways

  • Big Data and analytics are revolutionizing strategic decision-making, enabling businesses to act on complex insights.
  • Sustainable and circular business models are becoming essential for long-term profitability and environmental stewardship.
  • Artificial Intelligence is transforming business processes, necessitating new strategies for integration and management.
  • Leadership in the digital age requires a nuanced understanding of technological advancements and organizational dynamics.
  • Ethical considerations and corporate social responsibility are increasingly integral to building a reputable and sustainable business.

Emerging Trends in Business Innovation

The role of big data and analytics in strategic decision-making.

In the realm of business innovation, the utilization of big data and analytics has become a cornerstone for companies aiming to maintain a competitive edge. It helps companies make informed decisions by providing insights into consumer behavior, market trends, and business performance. An MBA focusing on Data Analytics equips you with the necessary skills to decode vast amounts of data and enhance decision-making processes.

Leveraging big data analytics involves the systematic collection, examination, and analysis of large datasets to uncover hidden patterns, correlations, and insights. This practice is pivotal in aiding strategic decision-making , as it allows for a more nuanced understanding of the market and customer needs. Consider the following points when exploring this thesis topic:

  • The integration of data analytics into organizational culture and decision-making frameworks.
  • Methods for ensuring data quality and integrity in analytics.
  • The ethical considerations surrounding the use of consumer data.

By delving into these areas, you can contribute to the evolving landscape of business strategy and innovation, where data-driven decisions are increasingly becoming the norm.

Sustainable Business Models and Circular Economy

As you delve into the realm of sustainable business models, you'll encounter the transformative concept of the circular economy (CE). Unlike traditional linear economies reliant on 'take-make-dispose' patterns, CE emphasizes the importance of resource efficiency and the regeneration of products and materials. One way to reduce dependency on finite resources is through CE's innovative business models . These models are designed to be restorative by intention, aiming to keep products, components, and materials at their highest utility and value at all times.

The five Business Models for the Circular Economy, as identified by Lacy et al. (2014), provide a framework for MBA graduates to explore and innovate within this space. These models include:

  • Design for longevity
  • Maintain, share, and lease
  • Reuse and redistribute
  • Refurbish and remanufacture
  • Recycle and upcycle

By integrating these models into your thesis, you can contribute to a body of knowledge that not only advances sustainable business practices but also addresses global challenges such as climate change and resource scarcity. Your research could pave the way for organizations to transition from a linear to a circular approach, ultimately leading to a more sustainable and resilient economy.

The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Business Processes

When companies embrace these values, they unlock a wealth of creativity and innovation that can only arise from a multitude of perspectives.

To effectively manage and empower diverse teams, it's essential to implement both formal systems and soft skills. Here are four soft skills that could help you make your team more inclusive :

MBA dissertation help: How to choose a topic, plan, and write your dissertation

Share this article:

MBA dissertations, internships or consultancy projects are the final modules on most MBA programmes . Our Full-time participants can opt for either a traditional dissertation (with a theoretical focus), an internship, or a hands-on project, which will see you consulting for a real organisation alongside a team of peers.

Whether you choose an internship, dissertation or consultancy project, you will still be required to submit a written exploration of a research question that is relevant to the world of business as part of the module. This guide offers MBA dissertation help that remains applicable whichever route you take on your Full-time MBA.

Read on to learn about the early stages of the process, choosing a topic, planning out your workload, and how to write an MBA dissertation, report, or learning journal. Written by the MBA team here at Warwick Business School (WBS), this article also features some helpful first-hand advice from one of our MBA graduates, Kristen Rossi who studied our Full-time MBA.

An introduction to MBA dissertations, internships and consultancy projects

Completing an MBA dissertation or consultancy project is a requirement for fulfilling the Capstone module . on our  Full-time MBA courses ; alternatively you can choose to undertake an internship.

Although this work will be completed towards the end of your programme, it’s worth getting ahead of the game. Given that your dissertation or project will contribute significantly towards your final result, we recommend learning about the requirements and how the process works even before you apply for an MBA.

As Full-time Warwick MBA graduate, Kristen Rossi, puts it:

From the second the MBA started, there was talk of “The Capstone module” – the part of the MBA that is worth the most credit, which will probably involve an outside company

Your first port of call is to choose between an MBA dissertation, internship, or a consultancy project. Seem like a daunting decision to make? We’ve outlined the key points of difference to help you get on the right track. You'll also receive guidance from the support teams at WBS, including our Programme Team and Employer Relations Team.

What is an MBA dissertation?

An MBA dissertation is an independent, yet supervised, research project. It is designed to demonstrate that you have assimilated your learning throughout the MBA course and that you can explore a business issue thoroughly, considering multiple perspectives on the subject.

The output from an MBA dissertation is a piece of written work that explores a research question relevant to the world of business. You could explore any one of a wide range of different topics as part of the dissertation, but your writing should have an academic focus with a strong grounding in theory and your own independent research.

At WBS, you may also choose to focus on Entrepreneurship or Social and Environmental Sustainability as part of your MBA dissertation, which is a requirement if you choose one of our specialisms.

What is a strategic consultancy project?

A strategic consultancy project provides you with hands-on experience of consulting on behalf of a real organisation and investigating a specific business challenge that it faces. Taking place for 10 to 12 weeks over the summer period, you’ll work alongside a group of your peers at the same organisation.

WBS participants can choose their own groups and, as Kristen comments, are given support in sourcing a project:

The strategic consultancy project is usually supported by a client who has a topic or question that they would like to know more about. WBS provides specific, mandatory careers sessions dedicated to the consultancy project.

The Business School has partnered with many global industry leaders as part of the consultancy projects, from Barclays to Sony and Microsoft.

Once you’ve chosen a group and organisation, each participant selects their own distinct research question. The deliverable is then an individual consulting report addressing this question.

You can find out more about consultancy projects from Antonia in the film below:

The differences between an MBA dissertation and consultancy project

A consultancy project still requires you to produce an extended piece of written work in the form of your individual consulting report, but it differs from an MBA dissertation in a number of ways:

  • A strategic consultancy project is hands-on, requiring you to engage with a business issue faced by a real organisation, whereas an MBA dissertation is more theoretical.
  • The scope of the issue you explore as part of a project will typically be much narrower and more focused than a dissertation, which can investigate a much broader topic area.
  • An MBA dissertation should aim to further the academic community’s understanding of a particular area of business; a consultancy project is geared towards solving a real-world business problem for a specific organisation or group of organisations.
  • A strategic consultancy project will require a group presentation element as part of your assessed work.

How will your Capstone module benefit you?

This final phase of your MBA course gives you the opportunity to explore a particular topic in great depth, enhancing your academic or practical understanding of an area of business.

For many participants the dissertation, internship or strategic consultancy project is a formative experience that has a tangible impact on their future career paths, supporting their professional ambitions.

But don’t just take it from us. What does Kristen have to say?

“I can only speak for myself, but with the Capstone module, I gained three things. Firstly, slightly superficial, I now have a fabulous new brand on my CV, Aston Martin Lagonda.

“Secondly, through the interviews I conducted for my primary research I had the privilege to learn a lot about the luxury automotive sector, which I would otherwise have not had the opportunity to learn as much about. Writing to and setting up a conversation with the CMO of a major firm is made easier when you have WBS and the justification of a dissertation, and the information they share is priceless.

“Thirdly, although tedious, I had the opportunity to deep-dive into a particular topic – marketing ROI best practices. This really helped me to understand the challenges and remedies of this topic in depth and will certainly help me as I make my career jump in the coming months.”

Choosing an MBA dissertation topic

Like many participants, you may feel nervous about the thought of choosing a suitable MBA dissertation topic. In reality, however, this is nothing to worry about.

As you progress through the early stages of your MBA programme, you’ll undoubtedly find yourself drawn to a particular area of study or type of business problem. The direction you take is also likely to be influenced by your pre-existing career goals and professional experience.

On this point, Kristen recommends that you make the project work for you:

When choosing your dissertation, try to focus on an industry and topic that you hope to transition into. If you are looking to move into finance, work on a project that will provide you with the knowledge to help you land the job!

It’s also worth noting that you’ll be given extensive support when it comes to picking a research question or sourcing a project. You’ll attend sessions dedicated to selecting the right topic in the run-up to the start of the dissertation or project module — and there is always additional help available at WBS.

How to write an MBA dissertation

Once you’ve chosen a topic for your MBA dissertation, your work on the module can begin in earnest.

As a Warwick Business School participant, you’ll be guided through the process from the outset. But if you’re still at the stage of wondering whether this is something you’d want to pursue in the first place, here’s a brief overview packed with MBA dissertation advice from one of our graduates.

The planning phase

Delivering a successful MBA dissertation, report, or learning journal is an exercise in sound project management; just one of the many ways in which it sets you up well for later working life. And it’s universally acknowledged that the best approach to take with any large-scale project is to break it down into bite-size chunks.

Kristen suggests seeking support to divide up the dissertation into smaller components, from the draft of your first chapter through to the final submission:

With the help of your supervisor, work backwards and set up a timeline to tackle each section of the dissertation. Include milestones where you will check-in with your supervisor (face-to-face is recommended) as well.

Preparing your literature review

The literature review is the all-important foundation of any dissertation – MBA-level or otherwise.

Kristen’s experience speaks to the value of starting your research early and keeping a record of all the papers and publications you encounter along the way:

“Once you roughly know the topic of your dissertation, start researching. Do not wait until you have a supervisor or until your elective modules are finished. I recommend this for three reasons.

“Firstly, the initial articles you find will most likely not be the gems you hope them to be and it will take a lot of speed-reading and trial and error before you uncover the wisdom that will actually inform your research.

“Secondly, once you find relevant research, it will take time to read it and most academic literature is not a page-turning detective novel (I can attest to falling asleep mid-read on several occasions).

“Finally, I am a believer that to truly understand and process new material, you need time. Give yourself the time to read, step away and think, and come back to it. In the end, you will be grateful that you did.

Further to this point, when reading journal publications look at the references the author cites. Seek out these additional authors and their publications.”

Communicating with your client contact on a consulting project

Should you opt for a strategic consulting project, the way you manage the relationship with your client organisation is just as important as the write-up of the final report. Kristen offers this final piece of advice:

“If you are not going to their office, then from the beginning of your relationship set in place weekly 30-minute Skype sessions to keep the client up-to-date with what you are doing. This will allow you to build a relationship with them and will help you to address any hiccups along the way.

“Sometimes after starting your research, you may find that the client’s initial request is too broad. This is okay, but you will need to bring it up and negotiate a more realistic deliverable. The weekly updates are also beneficial. As you research, you may find yourself going off in the wrong direction. Checking in with your client on a weekly basis will help you stay on track.”

Writing an entrepreneurship research paper can be an exciting and rewarding experience. However, it can also be a daunting task, especially if you are new to the field of entrepreneurship research. Here are some tips and guidelines to help you write a successful entrepreneurship research paper:

  • Choose a narrow and specific topic : The first step in writing an entrepreneurship research paper is to choose a narrow and specific topic that is relevant to the field. Avoid broad topics that are difficult to cover in a single research paper. Instead, choose a topic that is focused and specific, and that allows you to conduct in-depth research.
  • Conduct extensive research : Once you have chosen your topic, it’s time to conduct extensive research. This involves gathering information from a variety of sources, such as academic journals, books, and online resources. Make sure to keep track of your sources and take detailed notes.
  • Develop a strong thesis statement : Your thesis statement is the main argument of your research paper. It should be clear, concise, and specific. Make sure to provide a clear and concise overview of your research topic and the main arguments you will be making in your paper.
  • Use relevant and reliable sources : When conducting research for your entrepreneurship research paper, it’s important to use relevant and reliable sources. This includes academic journals, books, and reputable online sources. Make sure to cite all sources correctly using the appropriate citation style.
  • Organize your paper : Once you have gathered all of your research and developed your thesis statement, it’s time to organize your paper. Make sure to create an outline that includes an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. This will help you stay on track and ensure that your paper flows logically.
  • Use clear and concise language : When writing your entrepreneurship research paper, it’s important to use clear and concise language. Avoid using jargon or technical terms that may be difficult for your audience to understand. Instead, use plain language and explain any complex concepts or terms.
  • Edit and revise your paper : Once you have finished writing your entrepreneurship research paper, it’s important to edit and revise it. This involves checking for spelling and grammatical errors, as well as making sure that your paper flows smoothly and logically. Consider having a peer or mentor review your paper before submitting it.
  • Follow the appropriate citation style : When citing sources in your entrepreneurship research paper, it’s important to follow the appropriate citation style. This includes APA, MLA, Chicago/Turabian, or Harvard style. Make sure to follow the guidelines for your specific citation style to ensure that your citations are correct.
  • Use visuals to enhance your paper : Visuals, such as graphs, charts, and tables, can be a great way to enhance your entrepreneurship research paper. They can help to illustrate complex concepts and data in a clear and concise way. Make sure to use visuals sparingly and only when they add value to your paper.
  • Seek feedback and revision : Finally, it’s important to seek feedback on your entrepreneurship research paper and be open to revision. Consider having a peer or mentor review your paper and provide feedback. Use this feedback to revise and improve your paper before submitting it.

This chapter focuses on institutional obstacles to entrepreneurship. An entrepreneur carries out a highly complicated composite act. She needs intelligence to collect and digest information about business opportunities. She needs foresight about the possibilities new technologies and other developments create. She needs judgment and leadership skills to found a company and guide its growth. She needs communication skills to enthuse financiers to back her vision. The number of active entrepreneurs therefore depends on how many individuals possess these skills. But skills are not endowments. Individuals decide to develop those skills that advance their well being and to forego developing those that do not. The prospects of a career as an entrepreneur depend on the economic environment, which can be facilitative or detrimental. A multitude of factors determine this environment: rules and regulations, the quality of government, the availability of education, and the ambient culture. Man...

Entrepreneurship sets the pace for economic development by creating employment, spurring innovation, creating effective means of resource utilisation and improving the socioeconomic wellbeing of the citizenry. This paper establishes the need for policy reform in the area of entrepreneurship by proposing the adoption of a national technology-based entrepreneurship policy in South Africa. The central research question to be answered is what elements within the national entrepreneurship framework of South Africa need to be improved to develop a robust ecosystem of innovative, high-growth start-ups and entrepreneurship. The results of this paper should assist South African regulators in spurring employment, economic growth and innovation. A survey of university academics, innovative entrepreneurs and members of anchor institutions found that the most significant barriers to technology or digital entrepreneurship in South Africa are: i) unfocused national entrepreneurship strategy; ii) s...

Entrepreneurship can be described as the process of designing, launching and running a new business, generally a small business. It is mainly the willingness to develop, organize and manage a business venture along with any of its risks in order to make a profit. It also involves innovative activities, risk taking capacities, combination of resources, organization of people, talent and others to be successful. Now people have drifted their focus from jobs and settled career options towards a risk prone area of career option that is entrepreneurship. These days there has emerged forms of entrepreneurship such as one-person enterprises and self-employment, part-time entrepreneurs, parallel and serial entrepreneurs, and business transfer and successions. Entrepreneurship is fast emerging as transformational key drivers of economic growth. High youth unemployment rates in many countries, changing work and lifestyle preferences, zeal to establish one’s own enterprise, equal division of responsibilities between genders, changing role of women and society, dissatisfaction and exploitation in jobs have resulted in creating a new class of entrepreneurs. With the developing supportive environments such as access to funding, entrepreneurial culture, supportive regulatory and tax regimes, entrepreneurial mind-set and a coordinated approach has helped a lot in emerging entrepreneurship. Furthermore, the instrumental role entrepreneurs play in stimulating economic growth, policymakers are moving towards actively promoting entrepreneurship opportunities based on an integrated approach that brings together both government and industry entities. It is essential for the overall societal development and growth in national economy also.

Indicative Master Thesis Topics

In the coming semesters we will supervise master theses with the following indicative titles and descriptions. The list is not exhaustive and serves only as an orientation as to what kind of topics you can work on.

1. “Investigating the impact of CEO variable compensation on external corporate venturing activity” CEOs oftentimes receive a compensation package that also comprises variable components such as stock options. According to the behavioral agency model, such remuneration may incentivize more or less risk-taking behavior. Does it also trigger external corporate venturing acticity (i.e. M&A, CVC, alliances)?

Keywords: Stock options, Corporate venturing, M&A, CVC, Alliances, Behavioral agency model

2. "CxOs in the upper echelon: Understanding their role for firms' innovation performance”

According to Peter Drucker, “Any business enterprise has two—and only two—basic functions: marketing and innovation”. His famous 1954 quote remains highly relevant in today's era of rapid digitalization and technological change. Firms face increasing pressure to innovate to stay competitive. Chief Marketing Officers, Chief Information Officers, and other senior leaders play crucial roles in this effort. Recent research underscores the importance of CMOs and CIOs in driving firm performance. However, the specific impacts of CxO coalitions on innovation efforts are less clear. What types of CIO-CxO coalitions most effectively spur innovation? What factors positively or negatively influence these relationships? Do CIO-turnovers spur innovation? Theses in this area utilize various methodologies, such as literature reviews, interviews, surveys, and secondary data analyses, to address these and related questions.

Keywords: Organizational Strategy, Digitalization, Innovation Performance, CxO Leadership

3. “Innovation and megatrends – Investigating changes in firms’ innovation pipeline” Innovation is a key prerequisite of firms’ long-term success. However, current megatrends, e.g., sustainability, require firms to rethink their innovation pipelines. This thesis proposal aims to review the theoretical foundations to develop hypotheses on firms’ innovation activity against the background of key megatrends. What are the key megatrends impacting firms? Has there actually been a change in firms’ innovations and how are key megatrends reflected in those changes? These hypotheses are empirically evaluated leveraging powerful databases. Findings are of high relevance not only for the scientific community but also to practitioners: how can firms’ leadership teams address megatrends in their innovation focus to retain and strengthen their market position?

Keywords: Innovation, Megatrends, Upper Echelons

4. “Innovation as Big Tech’s winning formula – Are the FAANG companies better than the old economy in innovating?” The 2010s have seen the tremendous rise of technology companies in economic importance and stock prices. Five companies – namely Facebook (Meta), Apple, Amazon, Netflix, and Google (Alphabet) are particularly prominent and said to dominate their markets. How come? A recent stream of literature investigates the role of innovation for those companies’ success. This thesis aims to advance recent literature by comparing Big Tech’s innovation activity to that of the old economy. How do their innovations differ? Do Big Tech companies bring more radical innovations and breakthroughs to the market? This thesis aims at addressing those questions empirically building upon existing data and approaches.

Keywords: Innovation, Technology, Digitalization, Firm Performance

5. "Digital Health and Innovation in healthcare"

The digitalisation of healthcare has been one of the main drivers of innovation in the healthcare sector, and not just since the Corona pandemic. An increasing number of digital solutions are in development or are being introduced into the German health market under the term Digital Health Application (DiGa). In the context of these developments, we examine the role of start-ups and established companies in this development. Further research questions are the origin of innovations and their penetration in the market. Which go-to-market strategies exist and which of them are suitable for start-up-related innovations. The starting point for these studies is a broad quantitative database, which we are constantly expanding.  See Research Group – Digital Ecosystems for further information.

Keywords: eHealth, mHealth, Digital Health, Telemedicine, MedTech, Artificial Intelligence, Entrepreneurship, Medical Entrepreneurship, Health Care Entrepreneurship, Physician Entrepreneurs

6. "Hit or hype? How do artificial intelligence technologies shake up today's economic landscape?"

Artificial intelligence is THE buzzword. An unprecedented number of new technologies are entering the market, significantly impacting today's economy and social life. The impact of these technologies needs to be explored intensively. For example, how does the announcement of artificial intelligence-related products or services impact a firm's market value? Theses in this area investigate these interrelationships with different methodological approaches, e.g., literature reviews, surveys, interviews, and secondary data analyses.

Keywords: Artificial Intelligence, Firm Performance, Innovation, Product announcements, Firm value

7. "Personalities of Founders in the Clean Energy Industry"

Your master thesis is about the backgrounds and expertise of founders in green energy start-ups. While previous studies have looked at tech start-ups, your research uniquely focuses on the clean energy sector, emphasizing the significance of founders' experiences in determining the success of these ventures. Start-ups in this field play a pivotal role in sustainable rural electrification, driving major innovations to conserve resources, address climate change, and minimize environmental pollution.

Keywords: Green energy start-ups, Founders' backgrounds, Clean energy sector, Venture success.

8. "Evaluating the Environmental Footprint of Solid-State Batteries: A Life Cycle Assessment Approach for Sustainable Energy Storage Solutions"

Keywords: Nachhaltigkeit, Umweltauswirkungen, Neue Technologien, Ökobilanzielle Analyse, Feststoffbatterien, Lebenszyklus, Rohstoffgewinnung, Qualitative Analyse, Nachhaltige Energiespeicherlösungen

9. "A Comparative Study on Climate Change Mitigation vs. Adaptation Technologies: A Path to Sustainability"

Climate change presents two distinct challenges: mitigation and adaptation. This master thesis focuses on understanding the differences between technologies aimed at mitigating climate change and those designed for adaptation. Utilizing OLS analysis on comprehensive datasets, the research will dissect the economic dimension of both approaches. The goal is to provide a nuanced understanding of how different strategies contribute to combating climate change, offering insights for policymakers, investors, and environmental stakeholders.

Keywords: Sustainability, innovation performance, OLS regression

10. "Exploring Dynamics Between Top Management Teams and Corporate Venture Capital Heads"

The relationship between Top Management Teams (TMT) and Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) heads is pivotal for strategic alignment and innovation within corporations. Differences in risk tolerance, leadership styles, and strategic objectives can either hinder or facilitate effective collaboration. This topic investigates how the personalities and professional backgrounds of TMT and CVC leaders influence their interactions and decision-making processes. Identifying mechanisms to align these potentially divergent goals is crucial for integrating CVC activities with overall corporate strategies. Understanding these dynamics can enhance corporate governance and strategic innovation.

Keywords: CVC, Behavioral agency model, Corporate Venturing, Conflicts of Interest

11. "CEO Incentivization and Strategic Risk-Taking in Corporations: An Analysis of Moderating Factors"

This master thesis explores the dynamics of CEO incentive schemes and their impact on the strategic risk orientation of firms. With the growing emphasis on aligning executive rewards with long-term corporate goals, the nature of CEO compensation plays a pivotal role in shaping a firm's strategic risk-taking decisions. Specifically, the thesis seeks to investigate how different forms of CEO incentives, such as stock options, bonuses, and long-term incentive plans, influence corporate risk-taking behaviors. Additionally, several moderating factors should be explored to provide a nuanced understanding of how and when CEO incentives affect strategic risk-taking.

Keywords: CEO Incentives, Strategic Risk-Taking, Behavioral Agency Model

12. "Mapping Refugee Entrepreneurship in Germany: A Focus on Ukrainian Refugees and Supporting Organizations"

As migration to Germany remains on an elevated level, it is increasingly important to understand the entrepreneurship landscape among refugees, especially Ukrainian refugees. This thesis will delve into the entrepreneurial activities undertaken by Ukrainian refugees and examine the organizations and initiatives dedicated to their support and organization. By identifying key challenges and opportunities, this study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the support systems available to these entrepreneurs. The research will blend a review of existing literature with empirical data analysis to map the current state of refugee entrepreneurship in various industries and regions across Germany. This analysis will also explore how refugee entrepreneurs are integrated into the local economy and the role of supporting organizations in influencing their success or failure.

Keywords:  Refugee Entrepreneurship, Ukrainian Refugees, Support Organizations, Economic Integration, Empirical Data Analysis, Policy Impact

13. "Your Network (Effect) Is Your Net Worth: How Entrepreneurial Experiences Impact Growth Strategy Selection And Value Capture In Multi-Sided Platform Business Models"

To understand digital platform entrepreneurship, the connection and interplay between previous experiences, growth strategy selection and successful value capture must be understood. Digital platforms such as Uber and TikTok quickly change industry dynamics and thus analysis of multisided platforms needs to be at the forefront of research. Accordingly, this paper provides a comprehensive analysis on the nuances of multisided platforms and their growth strategies via a contrast between the organic and the acquisitive approach, aiming to close the significant research gap in the field. By addressing how navigating the complexities of MSPs requires business leaders to develop a different set of managerial strategies and skills, this paper contributes to both entrepreneurship literature and MSP research.

Keywords: Multisided platforms, Value capture, Network effects, Digital platforms

14. "Analysis of Startup Skill Profiles among University Graduates"

The master thesis shall examines the provision of startup skill profiles by German and European universities and the migration of such profiles after graduation. In addition, you analyze how hotspots such as North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria and Berlin attract startup talent from surrounding areas, while retaining an above-average number of talents. Local governments and policymakers are made aware of how they are affected by out-migration and whether they can compete with the top startup hotspots in terms of talent retention.

Thanks for finally talking about MBA Dissertation Topics and Liked it, As an MBA student I found this post really interesting and valuable as I am about to start writing my own MBA dissertation Q1 2015. Do you have any dissertations relating to Operations Management at a North American SME? Thanks Ivan.

Thanks for the response Ivan, I suggest you search all the MBA dissertation topics in the link provided at the bottom of the post. I’m sure you will find a dissertation topic relating to your MBA studies. Let me know.

Thanks, Steve

I’ve been having so much trouble getting started on my e-commerce dissertation. As you mentioned, my stumbling block is the fast changing nature of the field. But it’s growing so fast that I know it’s a good area to get into. I’m taking a look at your topics now, hopefully it can get me started!

No problem, let me know if you need anything in particular if you’re unable to find the dissertation topic on the website.

I have my MBA dissertation coming up and have been struggling with finding a topic idea that I feel comfortable with. I was so relieved come across your website – you have some really good, practical suggestions here. I enjoy writing, so have no problem with that part. My big fear is correctly citing my sources after I’ve written the dissertation. Do you have any suggestions or good sites I could go to help with that?

Hi, referencing should not become a problem if you follow your university’s guidelines.mthis blog contains posts on referencing and citing the work of others appropriately. Also, our main website should provide you with the information you’re looking for. Good luck.

This is an excellent MBA sample dissertation. I’m in accounting, and have to say that whoever wrote this really knows their stuff. I appreciate the fact that you post examples so those of us who are flailing around trying to decide how to go about this can benefit. I’m grateful to the friend who directed me here. Thanks for providing a great service.

Steve- I left Ireland in September 2008 for the UK and my Masters dissertation in Manchester was on the Global Financial Crisis a history showing the role of US, Japan, The Asian Tigers and leading to the demise of major economics post 2008, I’ve created a timeline of events (up to mid-2013) at present but have information up to date. This will give a chronological history of UK, EU, US events 2008 to date. It will be published early 2015. It is the US people have had to pay dearly for the toxic assets bought by Nama. Banks in Ireland are not lending, nor are they in the UK. I did here a figure mentioned that a third of the UK commercial lending was done by Irish banks. How can Nama be increasing lending when a lot of toxic assets have simply been “parked” by banks to be released shortly at knock-down prices onto the market?

Thanks so much for all this work! I’m blown away by the level of detail you’ve gone into. On some other sites I’ve looked at the content really only skims the surface and doesn’t take the reader in depth with a chance to really develop ideas and give a helping hand regarding this type of content. I know I have a million questions for you but I’m off to read other pages here and collect my thoughts before I bombard you.

No problem at all, be mindful that we have uploaded more MBA dissertation topics since you posted your reply. Hopefully, there are more titles that will interest you further.

Sir I am looking for a topic related to supply chain management (SCM) and organization citizenship (OCB). Can you please help me.

Hi Tezana – Please check the MBA Dissertation Titles we have. The links are provided above.

The article is interesting. When you’re preparing to write your MBA, you’re embraced a task of mind boggling tremendous. It can take a very long time to get your sources all together, your thoughts prepared, and your draft read and edit once more. That is about the length of a novel at the longest. Obviously, this differs by university or college. Dissertation creation is a battle at any stage, and we realize that it’s hard for somebody who’s never done it. A dissertation is long, yet not all that long that you have enough time to make up a fresh out of the box better approach for deciphering life, the universe, and everything.

Please how vast is the accounting option as a component or subject in MBA degree? I asked because I have some level of experience in account and would like to develop it more.

I need a swift reply please so I can decide on the track to follow.

I’m glad you liked the post. We will be adding more MBA Dissertation Topics soon. Keep an eye out for them.

Fine way of describing MBA dissertations and pleasant piece of writing to obtain information concerning my presentation focus, which i am going to convey in university.

Hello. I’m impressed by the depth of topics available here. The advice on ensuring a topic is researchable within the constraints of an MBA program is spot on. I’m planning to explore ‘Sustainable Business Practices in Emerging Markets,’ and the tips on methodology and literature review provided here are exactly what I needed to get started.

This site has made me rethink my approach to my dissertation. I was initially interested in a general management topic, but after browsing through the suggested titles, I’m now considering a more specific area like ‘The Impact of Cultural Differences on International Business Strategies.’ The guidance on how to structure the dissertation is incredibly helpful

As someone who’s been struggling with narrowing down a dissertation topic, this blog has been a lifesaver. The detailed breakdown of project management topics and the emphasis on real-world applications are exactly what I needed. I’m leaning towards exploring ‘The Role of Technology in Business Management,’ and this resource has sparked so many ideas.

The emphasis on choosing a topic you’re genuinely interested in resonates with me. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with options, but having a passion for your subject can really drive your research forward. I’m thinking of diving into ‘Change Management in Retail Banking’—the case studies here offer such valuable insights. Thanks for this treasure trove of information.

Choosing a relevant MBA dissertation topic is key to a successful project. I’m currently exploring the impact of digital marketing on brand loyalty, and this site has been incredibly helpful in narrowing down my focus. The comprehensive range of topics and examples here is impressive and a great starting point for any MBA student looking to craft a compelling dissertation.

the variety of MBA dissertation examples here is impressive. The breakdown of each topic’s methodology and literature review is invaluable for understanding how to approach these complex subjects. I found the section on digital marketing trends particularly enlightening. It’s a great starting point for anyone needing inspiration for their dissertation. Highly recommend it to fellow MBA students

This post is a fantastic resource for anyone struggling to choose a marketing dissertation topic! It’s great to see such a wide range of topics, from experiential marketing to consumer behaviour studies. The detailed structure provided for each topic is also incredibly helpful. I’m particularly interested in the discussion on the effectiveness of branding strategies—definitely worth a read for marketing students.

BuzzBallz CEO makes historic $30M donation to TWU

The alumna, a former high school teacher who launched a mega-beverage company, hopes her gift will bolster other woman entrepreneurs..

BuzzBallz CEO Merrilee Kick, at the BuzzBallz headquarters in Carrollton, Texas, Tuesday,...

A teacher-turned-CEO built a mega-beverage company one brightly colored cocktail-to-go at time.

Now Merrilee Kick wants to thank the school that helped her bring the vision for the popular BuzzBallz to life through her capstone project by donating $30 million to Texas Woman’s University.

Prior to becoming a beverage tycoon, Kick was a high school teacher in Plano when she pursued her master’s at TWU.

“I was broke all the time and I was trying to find a way to make money,” she said. “I built this business from nothing to where it is today. And I wanted to be able to enable other people to do that.”

The record-making gift will fund an institute at the university focused on innovation and entrepreneurship, an endowed chair in entrepreneurship, an entrepreneur-in-residence program and a brand new building for the school’s college of business, the first in TWU history.

University officials say the donation will help the university’s fairly young business school grow its identity.

Kick’s thesis as an MBA student became the basis for the business plan behind the Carrollton-based BuzzBallz/Southern Champion company, which was the only woman-owned distillery, winery and brewery business in the U.S. when it launched in 2009. Now the often circular BuzzBallz drinks — ranging from ‘ritas to chillers— are frequently found at convenience stores nationwide.

BuzzBallz CEO Merrilee Kick, at the BuzzBallz headquarters in Carrollton, Texas, Tuesday,...

Her gift was announced Thursday during a meeting of Texas Woman’s board of regents, which is expected to approve a new name for the college of business — the Merrilee Alexander Kick College of Business and Entrepreneurship — on Friday.

Kick’s donation is the largest single gift given to TWU, doubling the previous highest gift of $15 million from the Dallas-based Doswell Foundation.

Rama Yelkur, TWU’s dean of the College of Business, said she is elated by Kick’s donation and how it will enhance the student experience as well as help shape the future of the business school.

TWU’s business was established just seven years ago. The naming of the business school and a physical building will add to the school’s visibility and increase branding potential, Yelkur said.

“We had our accreditation visit in 2022, and we passed with flying colors,” she said. “But one of the things they told us in the report is that the college of business does not have an identity, visibility, student engagement spaces or the ability to engage with real businesses.”

The new building will include contemporary spaces, finance labs, analytics labs and virtual reality labs where students will have requisite resources for a cutting-edge business education, Yelkur said.

“They’ll be ready for Wall Street or to be an entrepreneur or for any industry,” she said.

Officials want the entrepreneur-in-residence program to elevate students’ business education by allowing for direct mentorship and consultation from an expert with invaluable hands-on experience.

“There will be somebody that is an actual entrepreneur who can do ‘Shark Tank’ types of things and pitches and review [students’] work,” Kick said. “Somebody with real-life experience, not just book experience.”

That will allow students to incubate, innovate and produce businesses, officials said.

Texas Woman’s Chancellor Carine Feyten said Kick’s donation allows the school to shine a light on the innovation and business women bring to a globally competitive economy.

“I am doubly pleased that this extraordinary gift comes from Merrilee, a shining example of our pioneering spirit and an alumna who has risen to the level of entrepreneurial titan,” Feyten said in a press release.

Yelkur said Kick embodies TWU’s official tagline: Boldly Go.

“Being resilient and tenacious, she became successful in a completely male dominated industry … with grace and determination,” Yelkur said. “And that’s the kind of student we want to educate to be successful.”

Kick said having a building as her namesake not only honors her passion for education but also pays tribute to her parents, who were both educators. Their parents were educators, too.

Construction for the building is expected to begin in the spring of 2025.

“Education is really important to me, so to have this in my name is kind of a legacy for me and for my family,” Kick said.
