How do I turn off the video camera BEFORE I start recording slides in powerpoint
My camera is dead on my SurfacePro. EVERYTIME I try to record slides, my dead camera light comes on and Powerpoint hangs up for several minutes before I get bored and use Task Manager to close it. I've updated my Powerpoint program. I've signed in. The recording works on my work SurfacePro and my personal computer, but not my personal SurfacePro. The dead camera is the only thing I can think of; I'm betting Powerpoint is hanging up because it can't use the camera. And I can't turn off the preview because Powerpoint never gets to the record screen with the X to click off the camera.

Hello, Kilashandra1996 .
Thanks for reaching out to our Microsoft Community Forum and please accept our warmest regards and sincerest hope that all is well.
We understand that due to having a dead camera on your Surface Pro PowerPoint hangs when recording slides. You'd like to know if there's a way to get around this.
To turn off the video camera before recording slides in PowerPoint, you can follow these steps:
1) Open PowerPoint and go to the "Insert" tab.
2) Click on "Screen Recording" in the "Media" section.
3) In the recording toolbar that appears, click on the "Select Area" button.
4) Select the area of the screen you want to record.
5) Before clicking on the "Record" button, click on the "Options" button.
6) In the "Options" menu, uncheck the "Record audio" and "Record pointer" options.
7) Click on "OK" to save the changes.
8) Now you can click on the "Record" button to start recording your slides without the camera being turned on.
An alternate solution would be to disable the camera from Device Manager. Basically, in Device Manager go to Camera > Right-click camera > Disable device.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.
