Work schedule templates
We created these free work schedule templates to help you be more productive and efficient with your work tasks.
You'll notice that some templates cover your daily, weekly, and monthly assignments, while other templates only provide you with one type of assignment.
That's because some types of schedules demand more details, such as the Work from home template — which is why this one has both the daily and weekly versions.
Work from home schedule template
When working from home, you often have to deal with many distractions, either coming from your neighborhood, from the people you live with, or your pets.
One of the best ways to avoid all these interruptions and get back on track with your work is to follow your schedule .
Here are two Work from home schedule templates you can use to organize your workday — or workweek, if that suits you better.
Weekly work from home schedule template
The Weekly work from home schedule template breaks down each day into three sections: Morning, Afternoon, and Evening.
Furthermore, there's a Weekly work checklist, and Meetings/calls section.
If you enjoy having an overview of your weekly tasks, this template will suit you, especially if you have flexible working hours . In this case, you'll be able to choose the time of day for your job assignments, then figure out when you'll fit in your home chores or meal preps.
Of course, even if you have fixed working hours, this template will help you make an 8-hour workday schedule that suits your needs.
To use it properly, you should fill this template out either on Sunday afternoon/Monday morning or note down new tasks every day.
Start by choosing the time of the day for each assignment during the week.
To ensure you'll get the most out of every workday, keep in mind your circadian rhythm — leave the most complex tasks for the time of the day when you're most alert. Then, be sure to add all your significant weekly tasks to the Weekly work checklist, as well as jot down all your weekly meetings and calls.
We hope that the Work from home weekly schedule template will help you finish your job tasks on time.
Once again, remember to take frequent breaks in between assignments.

Daily work from home schedule template
The Daily work from home schedule template ensures you stay on track with all your daily tasks. This template breaks down your day into hourly segments. In addition, there's a valuable section called the Daily work checklist, where you can input all the most crucial activities/tasks of the day. Moreover, there's a To-do list for tomorrow, which you can fill out at the end of each day.
Anyone working from home can surely benefit from using this template. We suggest opening this template first thing in the morning.
Make sure to note down your most vital tasks and activities in the Daily work checklist section. Next, write down your meetings of the day. Once you do that, you'll have a better idea of when you'll be free to deal with your significant assignments. Don't forget to include breaks throughout the day, too.
Finally, to avoid working overtime, you should note down all the tasks for tomorrow in the To-do list for tomorrow.

Assignments schedule template
We created two types of templates that allow you to keep track of your assignments:
- Weekly assignments schedule, and
- Daily assignments schedule.
Weekly assignments schedule template
The Weekly assignments schedule is quite straightforward — there's a simple table where you can add tasks for each day of the week. In addition, we included the Task deadlines section and Reminders.
If you're looking for an easy way to keep a record of all your weekly assignments, this template will fit your needs.
We suggest filling it out at the beginning of a week.
Of course, if there are any unexpected tasks throughout the week, be sure to add them to the Weekly assignments schedule.
Now, this template also ensures that you complete all your tasks before the deadline, which is why we encourage you to enter your tasks' deadlines in the middle section.
Furthermore, there's the Reminders section, where you can add any important reminders or notes for your weekly assignments.

Daily assignments schedule template
The Daily assignments schedule is a template that helps you figure out your top 3 priorities of the day. Moreover, since this template contains The Eisenhower Matrix technique section, it allows you to distinguish between important/not important, and urgent/not urgent assignments.
This template is practical because it ensures that you deal with your tasks according to their urgency and importance.
Once you fill out the Eisenhower Matrix technique section, simply scroll down to the hourly table and choose time blocks for these assignments.
Finally, don't forget to enter some vital tasks for tomorrow.

Yearly time off schedule template
The Yearly time off schedule template allows you to keep track of your time off throughout the year. In this template, we covered several vital categories of time off, such as paid vacation, sick leave, earned days, and others.
Also, there are three important sections for each type of time off: Consumed days, Available days, and Balance.
So, how to use the Yearly time off template?
It couldn't be simpler.
First, enter the balance for each type of time off. For particular types, such as sick leave, you may not have a balance, but for paid vacation, you definitely will.
Then, whenever you receive approval to take time off for any reason, just enter the number of days in the proper row (the type of time off) and in the right column (the current month).
Next, the template will automatically calculate the number of Consumed days (for each type of time off) and the number of Available days left.
Thus, you'll have a better idea of how many days off you've used so far and how many there are left by the end of the year.

Weekly meetings schedule
The Weekly meetings schedule is suitable for those of you who have meetings every day. With this template, you'll be able to keep track of all your meetings. In addition, you can add any significant details, such as meeting agenda, topic, and start and end time.
The Weekly meetings schedule covers five days of the week. To make the most of this template, you should open it at the beginning of the week and enter all your weekly meetings. Be sure to include details such as where meetings take place or the links to online calls.
To ensure that you're fully prepared for any meeting, add its topic and agenda, if needed.
Then, once the meeting starts, you can follow its agenda, but also write notes in the Important notes section.

Non-work schedule templates
Apart from templates for organizing your job tasks, meetings, and time off, we created some non-work schedules you can use for free, too.
Here's the list of the templates you can use for planning your time outside of work:
- Household chores schedule,
- Workout schedule,
- Budget schedule,
- Travel schedule, and
- Meal prep schedule.
Household chores schedule template
We made two types of household chores templates:
- Monthly household chores, and
- Weekly household chores schedule template.
Monthly household chores template
The Monthly household chores template helps you deal with all your errands around the house. This template covers a weekly breakdown of chores, but also some additional ones that you do once a month.
You can add your typical weekly chores.
Plus, you can add the names of the people in charge of these errands, which comes in handy if you share your household chores with your partner, roommate, or family members.
There's a column called Additional monthly chores, where you can enter some of the errands you deal with every month. For example, cleaning/vacuuming furniture or cleaning windows.
Moreover, we included another section for all the outdoor chores, which comes in handy if you live in a house. To make sure you won't forget any outside-the-house monthly errands, be sure to add them to this list.

Weekly household chores schedule template
The Weekly household chores schedule template allows you to keep an eye on all your household chores during the week. We included a separate schedule for each day, along with Before work and After work columns, so that you can plan your errands accordingly.
In addition, we added the Who's in charge column to this template, too.
Since this template covers seven days, you can enter all your weekly errands at the beginning of the week.
Then, simply add the name of the person in charge of every chore.
Once you or your family members finish a specific errand, just put a checkmark next to it.
Also, during the workweek, you can decide whether you'll deal with these chores before or after work.
And, on weekends, you can choose whether you'll complete your errands in the morning or afternoon.
We didn't include evenings on weekends, because you should have some time to relax on Saturdays and Sundays.
Finally, this template contains the Shopping list — so, whenever you remember you need to buy milk or anything else, note it down here.

Workout schedule template
The Workout schedule template allows you to organize your exercise routine.
No matter whether you prefer working out in a gym or from home, you'll surely find our monthly and weekly workout templates useful.
Monthly workout schedule template
The Monthly workout schedule template ensures you stay consistent with your monthly workout targets. Setting such long-term goals is vital because it gives you a clearer picture of what you want to achieve. Thus, when you have a monthly target, you'll be able to make weekly plans. This will also help you plan your days accordingly.
That's why the Monthly workout schedule template contains the Overall goal field. So, your goal can be losing weight, improving your physical condition, or anything else. Just remember that goals should be challenging enough, you don't want objectives that are too easy or too difficult to achieve.
Now, how can you use this template?
Once you adopt your monthly objectives, you should decide what types of exercises will get you closer to your goal.
Then, choose how frequently you'll do such types of workouts.
Also, whether you'll do your exercises with or without equipment is up to you, and you can add these details to your schedule, too.
If you haven't been working out before, or you've taken a longer break, please make sure you consult your fitness instructor first. This way, you'll be sure your workout plan is suitable for you, and you'll avoid any injuries.

Weekly workout schedule template
Apart from the Monthly workout schedule template, we also created the one for your weekly plans. First, you can plan your monthly routine, then use the Weekly workout schedule template to add more details.
As you can see, the Weekly workout schedule template covers several workout categories:
- HIIT (high-intensity interval training), and
- Yoga/stretching.
Depending on your monthly goals, you should choose the frequency of each category. Of course, you don't have to include all these categories in your workout plans, just the ones that will help you move towards your monthly objective.
Next, think of the best days for each type of exercise, as well as the time of the day.
Then, decide on the duration of your workout sessions.
This template also allows you to add links for workout videos you'd like to try, but also links for playlists. There's no doubt that music can help us stay motivated — so be sure to add your favorite tunes to this column.
Finally, remember that rest days are just as important as the days you exercise. Therefore, note down the days you'll spend resting.

Monthly budget schedule template
The Monthly budget schedule template is designed to help you keep an eye on your expenses . In addition, this template includes a Savings column — to remind you to save some money for rainy days.
To make the most of our Monthly budget template, make sure you add the Starting budget.
Then, write down all the expenses you have during a month, such as rent, utilities, and other similar costs.
To ensure you'll pay all these expenses on time, there's the Due date column, too.
The template automatically calculates the total sum of your monthly costs, which can be pretty convenient.
Furthermore, to ensure that you'll put aside some part of your monthly income into your savings account, we included the Savings column. Thus, you can note down the amount you'd like to save from each paycheck.

Meal planning schedule template
Meal planning can be such a bummer, especially on days when you have too much work to do. Instead of figuring out what you'll have for each meal of the day, try organizing your meals for an entire week. Then, simply follow this routine throughout the week.
To make your life easier, we created two meal planning schedule templates:
Weekly meal planning schedule template
Daily meal planning schedule template.
The Weekly meal planning schedule template allows you to create a healthy meal plan for an entire week. You can write down your ideas for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
As you can see, the Weekly meal planning schedule template covers seven days and four meals for each day. We suggest filling this template out on weekends, so that you'll have enough time for shopping.
If you're usually swamped with work during a workweek, you can make a couple of meals on weekends and store them in a freezer.
Another practical option this template offers is the Ingredients to buy list, where you can note down everything you need for meal prep.

Our Daily meal planning schedule template is more detailed than the weekly one. The Daily meal planning schedule template covers categories such as Preparation time, Ingredients, and Recipes.
This template helps you have a clearer understanding of how long each meal preparation will take. Therefore, you can easily adjust your meal preps with your work and other daily activities.
Moreover, with this template, you'll be able to write down all the ingredients of your meals, as well as add recipes.

What Should a Good Homework Spreadsheet Have?
In general, you’ll want a few fields that will help describe your assigned tasks and some markers for better organization. Here are some essential components to look for:
- Assignment description: An efficient assignment tracking template will have space so you can jot down assignment notes. This avoids confusion and lets you anticipate the difficulty of your to-dos.
- Dates: Having dedicated fields for your due dates lets you plan your schedule better. This way, you know how much time you have to complete a task. Additionally, when paired with your assignment notes, you can sort them according to priority levels.
- Completion status: Keeping track of task statuses lets you know which tasks have started, are in progress, are accomplished, or need revision. Moreover, it’s also a great way to remember which tasks you need to return to.
- Subject and type: You also want to categorize your assignments into their respective subjects. Another way to group them is by assignment type, including papers, lab reports, collaborative work, and similar tasks.
The components above are only a few useful fields in an assignment tracking template. For example, some spreadsheets also include monthly views or trackers for semester-wide assignment lists . Templates such as these will undoubtedly have other categories you’d need to explore.
Basic Assignment Tracking Template
With all the considerations laid out above, we created a simple but effective assignment tracking template you can use for free. While it may only feature a single functional tab, it has nine named columns you can organize according to your tasks.
If you haven’t already, you can download our free assignment tracking template here:
Let’s discuss the template in more detail .
Column A—Days Remaining
This is self-explanatory, but you can refer to this column to see the number of days you have left to do or submit your assignment. Depending on the days remaining, you can also decide which tasks to prioritize according to their deadlines.
The cells under this column are automatically updated using our pre-loaded formulas , so avoid modifying them. Instead, you can change the values under the last two columns of this template.
Columns B to D—Tags for Status, Subject, and Task Type
Under these columns, you can set the categories of your assignments either by their completion status, class, or assignment type. You can select the values from the drop-down lists that come with the template based on the American curriculum.
Additionally, these statuses are associated with specific colors, making them more visual so that you can view and handle multiple ongoing tasks more efficiently. If the subjects listed differ from what you’re currently taking, you can modify the options.
To modify the subject options, follow the steps below:
- First, click on a cell’s drop-down list and locate the pen icon at the bottom.
- Click the pen icon to open the drop-down settings on the left-hand side of your screen.
- Change the values listed on the options, such as editing Math to Physics.
- Once you’ve set your preferred selection, click the “ Done” button.
- Upon clicking, a pop-out might appear on your screen asking whether to apply the changes to a wider cell range.
- Simply click “Apply to all” to replicate the changes to the other cells.
Another handy feature is the filter option in the “Status” column. You can use this to view your tasks based on their completion level. For example, you can choose to see only the in-progress tasks. Here’s how you do it.
- To get started, click on the filter icon next to the “Status” label.
- You should see a list of values with checkmarks on their left side once you scroll down.
- To deselect all of them, click on “ Clear.”
- Next, begin selecting the tasks you want to see per status, such as To start and In-progress.
- Finally, click “OK.”
- To revert the view, simply follow steps one to five, ensuring to select all the categories again.
Columns E to I—Assignment Details
You can start entering the information you know about the tasks at hand. The columns E to G are divided into three categories: Assignment Title, Description, and Files/Links. If your assignment has attachments and URLs, such as resources, you can keep them in the last column mentioned.
Meanwhile, columns H to I serve as fields where you can input the dates when your task is given and when you need to submit it. Take note that these are installed with data validation rules—you can’t enter values that aren’t valid dates. These values are also used to calculate the Days Remaining column.
Semester Assignment Spreadsheet
If you are looking to plan your entire semester ahead of time with your potential tasks, this is a helpful assignment tracking template. It’s much simpler than the previous spreadsheet discussed and gives you a semester-wide overview of your assignments.
Get the template here: Semester Assignment Spreadsheet
This assignment tracking template has only three fields that you can update. The first field is the (1) Date , which is located under the seven days of the week (with a total of fifteen weeks in the spreadsheet as per the American semester.)
The second is the (2) Tags field, which allows you to categorize your tasks according to the subject. As with the other template, these tags are color-coded for an easier view. Lastly, you can also populate the (3) Assignment Details , the blank spaces beside the tags.
Why Use Our Assignment Schedule Templates?
You can virtually make a never-ending list of benefits from using a homework spreadsheet, but to name a few, here are some reasons why they’re beneficial for managing your workload.
- Organization: As repeatedly emphasized, these assignment tracking templates help you categorize your tasks according to subject, type, and completion status, making it easier to organize your workload.

How to use your homework planner?
Sometimes it’s hard to think about how you can accomplish all of your homework when your teachers keep piling everything on as if there’s no tomorrow. But as a student, the only thing you can do is to deal with what you’re given. The best way to do this is to remain organized by using a homework planner.
Without the proper organization and time management skills, you might not be able to get the top grades you’re hoping for. Now that you know how to create a daily, monthly or weekly homework planner, here are some tips for using it:
- Select the right type of planner When you’re thinking about the type of planner to use, take your time. Select one which can accommodate all of the information you need but which still fits into your bag. Also, stay away from the store-bought ones with zippers or locks which are a challenge to open.
- Name your planner Small as this detail may be, it’s important to name your planner to remind you to keep using it. When you assign a name to an object, you’re also giving it a strong purpose in your life. Choose whatever name you want, make sure that it stands out!
- Incorporate the planner into your daily routine Make sure to bring the planner along with you at all times, especially when you go to school. Also, make sure to check the information written inside at the start and at the end of each day.
- Jot down the information ASAP As soon as your teachers assign you with homework, jot down the most important details right away. Make this a habit and it soon becomes automatic for you. Write down the assignment on your planner, the due date, and other relevant details.
- Learn how to use backward planning Whenever you write down any due date in your planner, keep going back to that homework to remind yourself that the due date is fast approaching.
- Color-coding systems work wonders Use colored dividers, stickers, papers, highlighters, and more to organize your planner. This makes it easier for you to understand and identify the information written on your planner.
- Make sure to include everything in your homework planner You must write down all the possible information in your planner, even the information about events, holidays, and other times which might take you away from doing your homework. If you don’t include this information, you can’t manage your time effectively.
- Use tabs and flags Using tabs and flags makes it easier for you to indicate due dates, finished homework, end of terms, and more. These serve as an excellent visual tool which constantly reminds you of what you need to accomplish.
- Keep the old pages and sheets in a separate file Since you’ll input everything in your planner, this means that each of the sheets contains important information. Therefore, you must keep the old pages in a separate file in case you need to use them as for reference later on.
- Congratulate yourself for creating an organizational system After creating your homework planner and following all of these tips, congratulate yourself for creating your own organizational system. As long as you stick with the planning, doing your homework becomes a lot easier.

College Student Planner
Free digital or printable college student planner to get you organized both at school and after school and to help you study.
I graduated years ago and yet I still have nightmares that I didn’t prepare for an exam or I have an assignment to submit that isn’t ready. College is stressful with so many commitments, deadlines, things to remember, and on top of all of that you most probably want a social life. If you are not organized, things will fall through the cracks. Assignments won’t be ready on time and you will find yourself cramming for exams with not enough time to finish the material. The only way to stay on top of homework, assignments, tests, and other commitments is by planning meticulously and staying organized. It will save you time and headaches and keep you calm so you can enjoy what should be a fun and exciting period of your life that you will look back on for years to come.
One of the reasons that I did well in law school was that I always used planners to get and stay organized. I used those same planners when I did my MBA years later and they proved helpful yet again.
I am happy to share my college student planner with you and I hope that it can help you as much as it helped me. There are different versions for each page so you can mix and match planner pages to create the perfect college planner for your needs. This is a 12-month academic year calendar and you can start any month you want.
There is also an additional and optional section to prevent procrastination, help you study less, and get more done.
If this is not the ultimate student planner for you then see the best planners for college .

Is there a way to change the name of the tabs because I want to delete some of the pages and things I don’t need and I’d like the months to be on the right side instead of the bottom, like switched, for the student planner.
Hi Carmina, There isn’t really a way to change the name of the tabs (unless you write on them). You might find one of the other digital planners better for your needs.

In a weekly Excel schedule template, each day is broken up into morning, afternoon, and evening, and you can adjust how much space you would like for each block of the day.
Common uses:
- College class schedule : Get a high-level view of all your classes for the week with a class schedule. You can quickly fill in their course information, like class name, location, and time, and better manage your time during the week.
- Housekeeping/chore schedule : Organize your housekeeping and chore list by printing out a weekly schedule template and filling in the task for each day, like vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, etc., and assigning each task. It’s an easy way to see all the housekeeping planned for the week and who is doing what.
- Employee shift schedule : Make sure the right people are working at the right times with an employee shift schedule. Assign shifts to each person and indicate their position (manager, cashier, front desk, support, etc). You could even add a column with total weekly hours to track employee workload.
- Travel itinerary : Never miss a flight, train, or bus again. Track departure cities, arrival cities, flight numbers, airport locations, hotel reservations and more with a weekly travel itinerary. All your important information will be in one place, keeping you on time and informed.

A daily schedule template usually spans Sunday-Saturday and includes duration in hours, with 30 minute increments. This kind of schedule will give you the most granular level of detail, letting you track even the smallest tasks during the day.
- Personal appointment/meeting planner : Manage all your personal appointments and meetings on a daily, hour-by-hour basis. Print out the daily schedule and put it in your purse, bag, or wallet so it’s always accessible. Or, even better, access it on your phone so you can easily add, delete, or edit items.
- To-do list planner : Instead of writing all your to-do items in a never-ending list, break them out and distribute them during the week so you know exactly what you have to achieve each day. Organize your to-dos by time of day and cross them out when you’ve completed each one.
- Baby feeding schedule : Record the exact times you nurse throughout the day to make sure you’re sticking with the appropriate feeding schedule. You can also track how long you nurse for and the number of total feeds per day.

Add all the items you need to track at the beginning of the calendar year and display the schedule in your garage or on the fridge.
- Monthly menu planner : Plan out your meals for the entire month with a menu planner. Include breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack ideas for each calendar day and print out the planner when you go grocery shopping for a ready-made list.
- Event planning schedule : Use a monthly event planning schedule to coordinate the hundreds of activities and tasks that need to happen before the big day. Add due dates and owners to ensure you meet deadlines.

Which Schedule Template to Use?
Once you decide on a daily, weekly, or monthly template, you then need to choose a layout, duration type (do you want Monday-Friday or Sunday-Saturday?), the sharing capabilities, and printing options. With all these factors to consider, it can be difficult to know which schedule template to use.
Here are some things to consider as you’re searching for a schedule template:
1. What is your timeframe or duration?
You first need to figure out if you need a daily, weekly, or monthly template. The daily schedule is the only template that has duration in hours (with 30 minute increments), the weekly schedule’s duration is broken up into morning, afternoon, and evening, and the monthly template has the least amount of granularity, with duration in days.
The events, tasks, or projects that you need to track on the schedule will dictate what kind of template you need. If you need to organize to-dos or appointments, the daily schedule will work the best. If you need to track longer term tasks or repeating events, consider a template that spans more time.
2. How many people will be using it?
Think about who you need to share your schedule with. Is this a personal document that you will to track your own tasks and to-dos? Is this a family housekeeping/chore schedule that you need to print out and tape on the fridge or email to your spouse and children? Or, will you be using this schedule at work, collaborating and editing it with colleagues and external collaborators?
As a general tip, if you need to share your schedule with more than one person, you should look for an online version of the template so you can share, collaborate, and edit it in real time. If it will be a personal schedule, then make sure you have robust customization and printing capabilities to make sure it fits all your needs.
3. How many events or projects need to be tracked?
While you can choose the level of granularity in duration of your schedule, you also need to identify the level of detail you need to add to your template and the number of items you want to include.
To get a sense of the complexity of your events or projects, jot down one or two items you anticipate adding to your schedule. Write down all the details you need to include (item name, item details, assigned to, due date, location, contact information, etc). This exercise will give you a sense of the amount of space you need on your schedule. If you are sticking with a high-level view of the details, you could use the monthly schedule. If you are tracking multiple tasks per day, you may want to look at the daily schedule template.
How to Customize Your Excel Template
It’s easy to customize your daily, weekly, or monthly schedule template in Excel. You can color-code certain items, like appointments or birthdays, or change font size and type. You can even add a logo to the calendar if you’re using it for work or with clients.
1. Format Fonts
- To change the font size of the headers, first highlight all the headers. In the Home tab, you can format the font type and size.
- To format the date or time markers, highlight the entire column or all the date boxes. In the Home tab, you can adjust the font type and size.
2. Change Colors
You can change the font colors or the background colors in your schedule. Color-coding may be especially helpful for labeling certain types of events or tasks.
- To change the background color of a header, highlight the whole row, click the paint bucket icon, and select the fill color.
- To color code an event, type a task or appointment into a date box. Then, select the text, click the paint bucket icon, and select the appropriate fill color.
3. Add a Photo
Customize your schedule by adding images, like your company logo.
- In the Insert tab, click Pictures . Upload the picture you would like to use.
- The image will be added to your spreadsheet and you can drag it anywhere in the sheet.
If you would like to add your logo or picture to the top of the schedule, you may need to add extra space so the image can fit.
- Right-click the first row of the whole spreadsheet and select Insert.
- Click Entire Row .
- Repeat depending on how many extra rows you’d like.
- To make the background of the new rows white, highlight the new rows, click the paint bucket icon, and select white.
- To remove the grid line above the title row, select the title row, click the grid icon, and click the options with the removed gridlines.
Now you have extra white space to drag your image to the top.
Printable vs Online Schedule Templates
In addition to finding the best schedule template for your needs, you’ll also have to think about printing and online collaboration capabilities.
Many people print out their schedules and put them on a fridge or wall. Or, for schedules like the to-do list planner or personal appointment/meeting planner, some put them in their purse or wallet for easy access.
While it can be helpful to print out and display the schedule for everyone to see, a paper calendar can actually make your life more chaotic and disorganized. If you forget or misplace the schedule, you have to start over from scratch. If someone wants to edit or add something, you won’t know who did it, unless you can recognize their handwriting. And, with limited space, your calendar can quickly get cluttered and messy with multiple edits and additions.
To have guaranteed, 24/7 access to your schedule, look for a cloud-based, collaborative solution. You want to be able to view and edit your schedule wherever you are, on a smartphone or on a desktop.
And, you’ll save a ton of paper by moving your schedule online. If you are sharing your calendar with multiple people, an online tool will streamline communication and changes. You can track edits and control permission levels, choosing whether someone is a viewer, editor, or admin.
And, many online tools have collaboration features to bring your schedule to the next level. You can have comments directly in the tool, set reminders or notifications, switch between a normal view, a Gantt view, or a calendar view, or add attachments.

Printable Homework Planners to Help Students Get Organized
This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure for more info.
If you’re a parent, you know how incredibly overwhelming it can be for students to stay on top of studying and all other homework assignments.
Especially when they’re juggling multiple classes.
Due dates can pile up quickly if they aren’t staying organized and managing their time wisely.
However, there is a tool that can be quite helpful – A printable homework planner! You’ll find a few different styles below.
Weekly homework planners
These free printables will help students plan and track all their assignments for each day of the week.
They can write down the class, a description of the homework assignment, and when it’s due. Once it’s completed it, check “done” and move on to the next!
I recommend printing a few copies at a time. Encourage your middle schooler or high schooler to keep one in their binder.
Monthly homework calendars
In addition to weekly planners , older students may benefit from a blank homework calendar as well.
It’s nice to have a bird’s-eye view of each month.
Some of these templates have extra lines below the calendar for writing down reminders and other misc. notes.
Monthly assignment and exam trackers
Some students may prefer a simple running list of what’s due each month.
With these trackers, they can write down the class, jot down a quick description of what’s due (whether it’s a basic assignment, project, or exam), and the due date.
And, of course, once the assignment is finished, they can mark done.

Description
This Monthly Planner is a spreadsheet that lets you print a planner page for any month of almost any year . You can print a blank monthly planner page, or you can customize and edit the planner within Excel.
If you are going to edit the planner within Excel, then first duplicate the planner worksheet so that you have different months on separate worksheet tabs within the same workbook.
2-Page Monthly Planner
This version of the monthly planner is designed for printing on 2 facing pages in a 3-ring binder, as shown in the image to the left.
Monthly Planner Features
Our spreadsheet gives you a great deal of flexibility to customize your own personal monthly planner . If you insert rows or insert columns into the calendar-portion of the planner, the formulas used for the dates will be messed up, but other than that, it is pretty simple to customize. Change fonts, add some color, add cute little images on specific days ... whatever.
Unlike our daily and weekly planners, this planner does not automatically add holidays and birthdays. Instead, it lets you duplicate the planner worksheet so that you have a separate month on different tabs. Just right-click on the planner worksheet tab, select "move or copy...", check the "copy..." box, click on OK, and then rename the new tab to Jan, Feb, etc. Then you can enter holidays, events, and birthdays directly into the monthly planner. If you want a monthly calendar that will store yearly events and holidays, try Excel Calendar Pro (not free).
Other Monthly Planner Features
- Mini monthly calendars showing the next two months.
- Goals section
- Notes section for recording homework assignments, listing people to call, grocery lists, doodling, or whatever.
- Choose Monday-first or Sunday-first.
FYI: The format for the day numbers use Conditional Formatting to "gray out" the days not in the current month. Keep that in mind if you make formatting changes to the planner.
More Monthly Planners
Many printable monthly planners that you'll find on the internet are really just calendars, without any extra features like notes, to-do lists, goals, etc. Here are a few planners that are not just calendars:

With it, you will be able to improve your productivity, especially if you have a part-time job . It would be best if you have this planner to ensure that you dedicate enough time to each task and complete them all successfully. This way, you will increase your productivity and, hence, achieve better and higher-quality output.
This planner will help you plan your time properly . With a planner, you can manage your time wisely, which will help you meet your deadlines and avoid any stress. In addition, a planner will help you improve your organisational skills. That means you will be a more organized student with fewer instances of forgetfulness and confusion. You will learn how to keep your commitments and meet your deadlines.
Another important aspect of the planner is that you will be able to track your achievements and goals. Making a list of your assignments, homework, and to-do lists in your planner will help you track what you have completed and what is still pending. This planner will also make you more responsible. This means, with a planner, you are more likely to develop a sense of responsibility that will ensure you remain focused on your school tasks and achieve all your goals as planned.
How to Create a Homework Planner?
You need to know how to create this planner because having one is important and beneficial. You can use any of the ways mentioned below to create your own planner according to your requirements.
Explained below are the five ways you can create your planner:
Method 1: Design your own homework planner
- Choose all the planning sheets you will need in your planner. This may include a monthly calendar, a weekly planning sheet, and a daily to-do list . You can use sticky notes to add information to your calendar or choose to use sticky notes to add important details to specific dates.
- The next step is to download free templates for different kinds of sheets that you have chosen for your homework planner and then print them. You can use notebook paper, blank printing paper, or other printed papers for printing, depending on your style and planning design.
- You should then organize your papers in a way that you want them to appear in your planner. You can start with the monthly sheets, then the weekly ones, and finally the daily papers. Because school schedules are usually divided into weeks rather than months, having separate sheets for weeks and days ensures continuity in planning even if the month changes midweek.
- The next step is to create sections for your planner by using color-coded sheets, dividers, tape, or post-notes to mark the presence of two sections or mark important sections.
- After that, you can creatively design your planner cover by drawing and painting it, decorating it with your favorite stickers, or designing and printing out a cover on the computer.
- Since you already have the sections divided, you need to decide what each section will include. You can categorize your planner sections according to subjects. Monthly, weekly, and daily categories can be created within the sections.
- The final step in designing your own planner is to bind the papers together and put a cover. You can choose to either glue or staple the papers together. Your planner is now ready for you to add information about your assignments and homework. You can use your planner for assignments from one class or different classes. Make sure to highlight each task using a different color of ink.
Method 2: Use a standard notebook
- The first step is to choose a planner notebook based on what you need and the number of assignments and homework you might receive for each class, from the various homework planners available.
- The next step is to decorate your notebook, a journal, or a composition book. Be creative and either draw or glue decorations on your notebook. Decorating your planner will help you stay motivated when using a planner.
- Then, you should divide your notebook into sections like the ones mentioned earlier: the monthly sections, weekly sections, and daily to-do list. You can count the number of sheets you need for each section and divide them using dividers, folding corners of the papers, and using tape or coloured sheets.
- Ensure that you label all the sections that you have created in your planner to make it easier to indicate the right information in the right place. You can create the label by writing, drawing, or using stickers.
- The next step is to draw your calendars so that you can plan your month based on the information in your planner. You should make a calendar by drawing a large box, dividing it into four columns and seven rows, naming the days of the week on top of each column, naming the months, and including the correct dates.
- Ensure that you create your weekly planning sheets since these are the ones you will use the most. Most of your homework and your assignment will be included in the weekly sections. You will need to divide it into eight columns, seven for the days of the week and one extra column for notes.
- The final step of using a standard notebook to create your planner includes the required assignments and homework. Ensure you organize your tasks based on deadlines to ensure you meet all your deadlines.
Method 3: Use a binder
- Choose a binder that will fit all the necessary papers that you need to include in your planner. This includes the assignments sections, the calendars, and the weekly planners. Try to minimize the number of papers in the binder so that you can easily access information about your assignments.
- The next step is to decide how you want to organize your planner for your homework. You should include the monthly calendar, weekly sections, and daily to-do lists. Using a binder will make it easier to add more sections and papers in the future when needed. That means you do not have to focus much on the number of papers for each section.
- The next step is to print out your planning sheets, including blank calendars and blank weekly planning sheets. You can edit and download customized homework planning sheet templates and then print them for use. After printing, insert these planning sheets into your binder.
- The fourth step will be to divide your planning sheets using dividers so that you can separate and access each section easily. You should also label these sections appropriately. Finally, you should open your binder rings and insert the to-do list, the weekly sections, the calendar, and a special index page to help you with arranging the pages.
- The final step is to include your homework and assignments sections. At this point, the binder is ready to be used as a homework planner, and you can start planning and organizing your schoolwork.
Method 4: Use a digital planner
- Select a digital planner that can be used on your laptop, iPad, or smartphone. For example, you can use note-taking or other calendar apps as your digital planner for your homework.
- The next step is to either take notes or design a custom planner meant to organize your school homework and assignments directly into the apps.
- Finally when including details about your assignment, ensure you focus on these three important times; new semester, new year or new season, Sundays, and classes.
- For the upcoming semester (year or season), you can include all the set dates for important activities like tests and deadlines. The apps help you update your weekly sections on Sundays, as they mark the start of the new week. Finally, in class, you can use the app to update information in your planner for to-do lists, key dates, lengthy assignments, projects, tests, and final exams.
Method 5: Use a template
You can also choose to use a template to prepare your planner for homework. A template is the easiest method to use since you will be required to download a premade planner and customize it to suit your homework needs.
You can easily edit a template and fill in the required information. Also, you can choose to download and print it, then paste it in your notebook to use as your daily planner. Whatever method you choose, the template for homework planner is not time-consuming and guarantees you less stress during the preparation process.
In the case of a to-do list, you do not have to mention every single thing you intend or plan to do during the day. This will be difficult if something unexpected occurs or you decide to do something other than what you planned. As a student, the best way is to organize the tasks you need to complete immediately, the tasks you will complete in a couple of hours, and the tasks you will do on another day. It is about which assignment or homework is the most important.
What to Include in a Homework Planner
The information in this section will help you create a comprehensive planner that will assist you in organizing your homework and assignments.
Here is what you need to include in your planner once you have created it using any of the methods mentioned above:
Regular times for homework
You need to include a regular block of homework time. This is the time that you have dedicated to doing your homework. Setting regular times for homework is important, as it will help you plan for extra study and other school work you may have.
Due dates of homework assignments
The deadlines and due dates for your homework and assignments should also be included in the planner. This will help you remember what you need to do and when to ensure you submit your work on time.
Dates of tests
Your planner should include information about your homework and the test dates. You need to plan and organize your time to study and prepare for your tests. Including this information will help you stay informed about the upcoming tests.
Any special events to attend
In case you need to attend a dance, party, celebration, or any other special event, you should include it in your planner. This is important, as you will not have time for your homework if you have not planned it properly in your schedule.
Deadlines for signing up for standardized tests
Standardized tests like the SATs are important tests for you as a student. If you are interested in taking such exams, you need to note the deadlines for registering for these standardised tests in your homework planner. That way, you can prepare for the tests and stay alert about applying.
Your planner should also have information about your school fee due date. You have to remind your parents or guardians about paying your school fees, and that is why it is important to include this information in your planner.
Dates of school holidays
Since you will be checking your planner for information about your homework, assignments, and tests, the planner is a good place to indicate the dates of any upcoming school holidays. This will help you remember to do all that is required before the school holiday.
Best Practices to Follow
When creating and filling your planner, there are tips that you should remember. These tips are some of the best practices you need to adapt and follow for effective homework planning.
Some of these best practices include the following:
1. Choose the right planner for you
It is important to choose the right planner for your homework and assignment needs. Your planner is meant to help with your school life by organizing your schoolwork. That means choosing your planner is the first and most important thing you should do. Choose what is most suitable for you, whether it is a notebook or a digital planner.
2. Set weekly goals
You need to include your weekly goals in your planner. Apart from your homework and assignments, you can also include your weekly goals in the planner. An example of a weekly goal can be studying for about 45 minutes to improve your grades.
3. Keep track of upcoming assignments
For the planner to be beneficial, remember that it is not enough to note your homework and assignment details. As a student, you must track those assignments that are due soon. It will not be beneficial to have a homework planner and still forget to complete assignments on time.
4. Practice time management
When creating and filling in your planner, you need to practice time management. As a student, managing school and your personal life requires you to learn how to manage your time. Ensure you allocate appropriate time for each school task, homework, and assignment. That way, you can have more time to indulge in other activities.
5. Keep it positive
Ensure to include positive information in your planner. You can congratulate yourself by adding positive notes in the planner every time you complete your work and school assignments. This will encourage you to stay focused on adhering to the planner.
Final Thoughts
As a student, you need to have a method to organise your school work and your personal time. You might feel overburdened or even forget to complete some of these tasks as you balance your homework, assignments, and other schoolwork. That is why you need a homework planner. You can easily make a planner to ensure you stay organized and responsible, and always remember to complete your homework. Use our customized templates to create your planner today.

We also discuss some of its limitations and provide you with better alternatives. Let’s go.

Whether you want to track your company’s monthly tasks, categorize homework assignments, or sort out the requirements of your grocery shopping list for the entire week, they can come in handy.

An ideal task list Word template streamlines complex workflows and helps boost productivity, establish accountability, and achieve goals.
Let’s do a quick deepdive into the features to look for in a task list Word template:
- Due dates: Gives you a clear vision of your workload. In a collaborative project, it holds all the team members accountable and motivates them to finish tasks on time
- Priority levels: Helps you allocate time and resources based on the demand and converts a massive workload into manageable chunks, preventing you from feeling overwhelmed
- Status tracking: Provides you visibility in work progress and a sense of accomplishment upon completion
- Reminders and notifications: When staying on top of important tasks becomes tedious while managing many responsibilities, alerts ensure you never miss deadlines or commitments

Microsoft Word is undoubtedly an easy-to-use platform for documenting and editing purposes. However, its templates lack an edge when it comes to tracking progress, customization, and collaboration on team projects. Here are some of its limitations:
- Lack of task management tools: Crucial steps like creating a task, delegating to the right parties, identifying urgency levels, and monitoring progress are not possible. The user may also need to constantly scour for tools such as calendars and spreadsheets outside of the platform
- Integration challenges: Users cannot perform collaborative tasks using multiple tools since the scope for integration with other project management tools or software is limited
- Template usage limitations: You cannot use a template designed for a particular type of site on others, which restricts flexibility across different environments.
- Lack of customization: Word offers basic customization options, which are inadequate for bigger, more complex projects. Unable to tailor them as per their requirements, users may experience friction while completing tasks
Since these task management capabilities require an upgrade, users seek more efficient Microsoft Word alternatives for list templates that can easily combine all the crucial elements required to complete a project.
