All teams start with five hearts. The team with the most hearts at the end, or the only surviving team, is the winner!

Each panelist answers specific questions related to his or her field. Then the audience votes for their favorite responses. The panelist with the fewest votes is voted off the “island.”

Discussions continue until only one panelist remains. Poll Everywhere handles the voting. Between talks, the audience selects their favorite speaker using their mobile devices, and the results appear in an animated chart in real time.

This is just one of many ways presenters and educators use interactive presentation games to keep the audience engaged. Here are eight more ideas for your next class, workshop, or meeting.

1. Process of elimination

This presentation game for 10 or more players helps the audience get to know each other

This game provides valuable insights into your audience members while also giving them a chance to stretch their legs.

Here’s how it works: Have everybody in your audience stand up. You’ll then pose prompts one at a time. Attendees’ responses to those prompts will dictate whether they stand or sit.

For example, let’s say that you’re speaking in a large auditorium-style classroom. Once your whole class is on their feet, you’d start by saying something like, “Sit down if this is your first time in this building.”

From there, you could keep thinning your students by saying, “Stay standing if you’ve had more than one class in this room,” and so on and so forth until only a few people – or only one person – remain on their feet. At that point, you could offer a prize or a round of applause.

2. Two truths and a lie

Welcome new students, or reintroduce old ones, with this presentation game

This classic icebreaker game works great with a recent Poll Everywhere addition: instruction image . Now you can present a photo alongside that person’s two truths and a lie so everyone knows exactly who they’re voting on.

Here’s how it works: create a new Multiple Choice activity in Poll Everywhere. Enter the participant’s name as the title, and two truths and a lie as the responses. Select the checkmarks next to the two truths to do a big reveal after voting ends.

After you create this activity, add an instruction image depicting the person you’re talking about. Be sure to check the box next to ‘Show instructions image on bar chart’ so the image is always visible.

In the image above, you can see that I changed the bar chart to a column chart. This improves readability on the presentation screen since the text isn’t sandwiched between the chart and image. Try to make your two truths and lies as short as possible. Shorter responses are always easier to read in the chart.

3. Telephone

See just how jumbled a phrase can get when it’s passed one-by-one around the room

Do you remember the game of telephone that you played as a kid? It’s just as fun as an adult.

Here’s how it works: Telephone starts by whispering a sentence into someone’s ear. Then that person repeats what you said to the person next to them. The chain continues on until the final person states aloud what they heard. It’s often something totally different from the original — with hilarious results.

You can use this in your presentation in an educational way by starting with a question that the audience wants to know (i.e. “How did Company XYZ increase their sales by 45%?”). Then, whisper the answer to the first person. Make sure to speak in a complete sentence — rather than just a few words — to make it tougher for your participants.

Even though you started the chain by whispering, “Company XYZ used content marketing to engage prospects,” you’re sure to end up with something quite ridiculous by the end.

A little advice: If you want to make this game go faster, you can do this by individual audience rows, instead of involving the whole room. It can also be fun to compare the different end results. Just know that the more people you have involved, the more twisted (and funny) the result becomes.

Here’s how it works: create a new word cloud activity. Make the title a riddle that has a single-word answer (not a sentence or a list). Who doesn’t love a good game of 20 questions? Fortunately, it’s incredibly easy to play with your presentation audience.

Here’s how it works: display a word or picture (it could be anything from a celebrity to an animal) on the screen behind you — so that you can’t see it but the audience can. You can even ask someone to blindfold you if you don’t want to run the risk of cheating.

Now, your entire audience can see what’s on the screen, and it’s up to you to ask twenty “yes or no” questions that will help you guess exactly what’s being displayed.

Invite audience members to just yell out their answers to your questions simultaneously to create a lively game that’s sure to give your audience’s enthusiasm a boost. Double down on this by setting a 60-second timer for the questions. When time runs out, it’s time to guess.

6. Would you rather?

Learn how the audience thinks with a tricky “Would you rather?” scenario that divides the group

This presentation game is more of a conversation-starter than a traditional game. There should never be a right or wrong answer in a “Would you rather?” scenario. The winner is whoever best justifies their choice and why it’s the best one for them.

Let’s face it: public speaking and presenting is rarely anyone’s favorite activity. Fearing that your audience isn’t engaged or is drifting off to sleep only makes things worse. Get creative with some interactive presentation games to engage your audience, keep them interested, and help them to actually retain the important information you’re sharing.

These ideas are great for any kind of event - from a sales kickoff meeting to a work retreat . If you are planning a seminar or industry event, consider some of these options as additions to conference activities that attendees love. 

1. Live trivia

A trivia competition is a safe and easy way to get people engaged and involved in the information. You can start your session with a trivia quiz based on any topic, or you can pause periodically and share trivia questions based on what you’ve presented already. For example, if you are presenting at a certain conference, you might choose questions that deal with the subject matter of the event. It’s pretty much fail-safe to pick some simple trivia questions to get everyone chatting at the beginning of your presentation, and if you want to create a competition you can break everyone up into small teams to see who knows the most. Tip: If you go the competition route, people will always be more engaged if there’s a prize involved. 

2. Presentation singalong

This is a silly idea that’s sure to infuse your presentation with some fun and laughs. Start by choosing a popular song with a melody that will be easy for most people to pick up on. Then write down the lyrics, and swap some of the words out with concepts from your presentation. Essentially, you’ll keep the beat but change the words to items from your talk. Then create a slide to share during your presentation and “teach” everyone the song. People will be singing along and likely remember your presentation all day! The game traditionally allows yes or no questions rather than open-ended ones. For example, “Is the item an animal?” or “Is the item bigger than my fist?” You might try to have them keep the answer relevant to your presentation, but that can be tough depending on the subject matter. If you go that route, try to make the game a mid-session break, where they focus on something from your presentation so far. 

4. Same-room scavenger hunt

For a twist on a classic game (that doesn’t require leaving the presentation room), put together a scavenger hunt full of items that people will either have on themselves, or ask other attendees for. Then, before your presentation begins, have everyone introduce themselves and explain why they brought the item they chose. Have your technology lined up in advance, so that if it’s a photo, you’re able to enlarge it on a screen, or if it’s a song, it can be played. Break up a lengthy presentation by having people share their opinions. Throughout your presentation, place a few polls or surveys that people can take informally. You can keep things simple by just having members raise their hands for their chosen option, or you can download an app so that you can collect responses in real-time. Try to make the topics pertinent to your presentation, and choose questions that are engaging and likely to have different opinions. You don’t want to choose questions where the answer will be obvious; that doesn’t lead to great conversation - which is your goal.

This activity is another one that allows people to move and stretch, which can be really beneficial during long or dry presentations. Prepare some slides in advance with one statement per slide. The statements can be just for fun, like about pop culture, or about the subject matter of your presentation (this is a good way to see who is paying attention). The key is that some should be true and some should be false. Think of it like a true or false quiz based on the information you’ve shared. Have the entire audience stand up, and then display the slides one-by-one. Tell them to stay standing if they believe the statement is (rightfully) true, and sit down if they believe it’s false. After each round, say whether the comment was true or false. Anyone who was wrong must now sit down permanently. Continue this process until only one person is left standing as the winner. 

8. Controversial questions

A bit of light-hearted controversy is a good way to get people engaged and to get conversation flowing. Energize your group with some questions that will spark debate. Obviously, you don’t want to create discomfort or irritation, so it’s good to avoid topics like politics, religion, current world events, etc. Keep questions on the fun side like “Mountains or beach - and why?” or “Coffee is overrated - yes or no.” Have everyone decide which side of the debate they are on and then join their “teammates”. Have the groups debate and see if anyone ends up changing their mind. 

9. Word of the day

If you want to ensure people pay more attention to your talk, start things off with a word of the day. This is particularly effective if you are doing a multi-day engagement and can change the word each day. At the beginning, tell everyone what the word of the day is. Then make sure it’s interspersed throughout your presentation. Have everyone keep a tally of how many times the word was mentioned, and whoever gets the right number wins. 

10. Process of elimination

This activity is simple, yet fun, and can help people get to know each other as well. You can choose to kick off your presentation with it, or use it as a break part way through your presentation. It requires a little preparation; before your event come up with a list of “yes or no” questions. On the day of, have everyone begin by standing up. Then ask each question one by one, and have people continue standing if their answer is yes, and sit down if their answer is no. If you want to thin the crowd earlier and make the game move faster, try suggesting scenarios instead of a question. For example, “Stay standing if you have ever seen a reindeer in real life”. Eventually you will get down to one person, who can be crowned the winner.

Let everyone know that at the end of your speaking portion you’ll leave time for questions. Make sure to allot about 20 minutes or more and encourage people to share any questions they have, letting them know you’ll answer to the best of your ability.

This can be an interesting and educational activity for people who are at an industry conference or other learning-style event, particularly with a business focus. The participant may now ask the audience "yes or no" questions about the image for 30 seconds and try to guess. Set a timer for this. After 30 seconds, is the correct answer still not given? Then the participant may take one more guess. Tip: Double the time when the answer is harder to guess.

When you click this, it will start a live, full-screen event (just like a powerpoint or google slides presentation). Display this live event page to your group (eg. • Step 2: Meanwhile, create a random word cloud containing obscure words.

4 corners is not a game about winning or losing. Rather it is an activity where the team can participate collaboratively. Here is how you can play it:

• Step 1: The slides will present a question and four possible answers to the team.

• Step 2: The presenter can assign each answer to a corner of the room and ask the members to guess the corner that contains the correct answer.

• Step 3: The same game can be conducted virtually by asking the member to choose from the 4 quadrants on the slide. The quadrants can be named, and the members must read out the names.

Ukrainian educators and learners need our support

We are deeply troubled and concerned by the violence and loss of life resulting from the Russian invasion of Ukraine. We stand with the people of Ukraine and we hope for the swiftest and most peaceful possible end to the current crisis. 

Kahoot! has received a number of requests from schools and educators in Ukraine requesting the help of our services to continue teaching despite the disruption of the war. We have supported each of these and we are now offering Kahoot! EDU solutions for free for both K-12 and higher education institutions for one year to Ukrainian schools in need. In addition, we are fast-tracking translation and localization of the Kahoot! platform into Ukrainian. 

Suspending commercial services and sales in Russia

Our commercial footprint in the Russian market is very limited. We do not have offices or representation in the country, nor do we have any physical operations or data services there. The overwhelming majority of our users in Russia are teachers and students using our free service.

Kahoot! is abiding by the international sanctions regime, and does not allow sales to sanctioned individuals or entities in Russia. Shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Kahoot! initiated a process to suspend offering of all commercial services in Russia. This includes but is not limited to online sales, assisted sales, app store sales and prohibiting sales to Russian corporations and organizations.

Prioritizing safe and secure use of the Kahoot! platform

As part of our mission to make learning awesome, and as education remains a fundamental human right, we offer teachers, students and personal users free access to our platform. We do this in more than 200 countries and regions in a spirit similar to public commons services, such as Wikipedia. 

Similarly, inclusivity is one of Kahoot!’s overarching values. As such, our aim is to, whenever and wherever possible, offer children, schools and others the opportunity to use digital tools for impactful education and learning, irrespective of their background or location. This has been our guiding principle also for offering our service in Russia.

Among our first responses to the crisis was to swiftly expand our global moderation team’s monitoring on all Russia-related content to safeguard the integrity of the platform. 

However, as the situation continues to escalate, it is vital that we are able to ensure that our platform is used according to our own guidelines and standards. Therefore, in addition to suspending sales, we will be taking all possible and necessary steps to suspend access to Kahoot! services in Russia, with the eventual exception of self-study mode which will feature only content verified by Kahoot!.

This will enable students, school children and other individual users to continue their learning journeys both safely and responsibly. We will continue to assess ways in which our services can be offered safely and responsibly to support all learners and educators, also those based in Russia.

Until now you probably thought more about doing trivia questions in your presentations, but did you know that personality quiz questions can also be an amazing engagement- enhancing element during any presentation? They are especially great as ice breaker questions , but could also be used as mood- lightener at any point. And the best thing: If you get SlideLizard, you can even see the audience results, so you have a statistic overview of e.g. people's favorite ice cream flavors (or whatever else you've always wanted to ask!) P.S: You could also use all the other templates in this post as personality quizzes, but this one is specifically designed as such.

#7 - Picture Quiz

If pictures speak to you more than words do, our picture quiz template might be the one for you! It comes with a fun, modern and playful design, and the pictures can of course be changed to whatever you want them to be (you can also add or remove new images, so there is a selection of 2, 3 or 6 pictures). The picture quiz can be used for testing vocabulary (although #9 covers that already), or to spice up your trivia questions. You could even use it as a fun way to introduce yourself to the audience (e.g. "Which of these baby photos is me?") in order to break the ice. #8 - Minimalist Quiz

Minimalism is extremely popular right now, and we totally get why! This is the simplest out of all the templates, but isn't it beautiful? With this quiz template, you get slides for Multiple Choice AND True/False questions! We are in love with this template in all its simplicity, but if you want, you could definitely use this as a blank canvas and upgrade it by adding pictures, backgrounds, new fonts or your favourite colors. The sky is the limit!

#9 - Vocabulary Quiz

This one is different from all the other quizzes, since it is neither multiple nor single choice, but instead somewhat of a memory game. We recommend this animated PowerPoint quiz template for testing new vocabulary or difficult terminology, but you could also adapt it and make it a regular open question format by writing questions instead of words on the cards and the right answers on the green cards below (it sounds more difficult than it actually is, and when you download the template, you'll get a detailed guide on how to use it.) In this format, there are some boxes with words in English (which you can exchange with your own words, obviously). By clicking on those boxes in presentation mode, they disappear and leave a green answer card. You can easily play this with your audience/students by letting them shout out the translation of a certain word and then clicking on the matching box to see if the translation is correct.

Last but certainly not least, is our "Who wants to be a Millionaire" Template, which we created exclusively for you to feel like a real game show contestant! The whole template is pretty extensive, which is why we put it in a blog article on its own. The template comes with everything you could wish for - sound effects, a design that is stunningly similar to the real one, and even the possibility to participate via smartphone! Let your audience participate with their smartphone

Once you have chosen a quiz, you have to ask yourself: How do I conduct it during my presentation? Of course, you could just let your audience raise their hands for the answers of their choice - but that seems outdated and overly complicated (counting the amount of votes for each answers,...). The way more convenient option is to use an application like SlideLizard, which allows your audience to vote for the answer of their choice via their mobile devices, making the experience a whole lot better - quiz competitions have never been better!

The process is easy:

Adapt the templates

If you'd like to use one of our templates, but feel like making some adjustments, you can easily do that yourself. All of the given templates can be modified, you can make a two- answer quiz in a multiple choice one and vice versa, you can change colors, fonts and shapes to fit your personal taste or company branding. In the following quick guide, you will be shown how certain elements can be transformed. We're using our galaxy template as an example, but all the templates are transformable in the same or very similar ways.

So here's our downloaded template:

Now, let's start by changing the background first. Click anywhere on a slide and select "Format Background"...

Then go to "Picture or texture fill" (or Solid Fill if you want the background to be a plain color).

After clicking "Insert" your file explorer will open. Select the picture of your choice and click "Insert" once again. Your backround is now changed.

The existing boxes should be rectangular, don't you think? Let's do that by deleting the existing boxes and exchanging them with new ones. To do so, click on a box, then right click > "Cut" (or hit the backspace key). Then go to the insert tab and click "Shapes", where you can choose the shape of your choice and draw it on the slide. Place it where you want.

If the object you just drew hides the text, just go to the "Shape Format" Tab and then click "Send backward" until the text shows again.

And while we're at it, maybe just remove two answer options and make it a True/False quiz? If you want to, you can also change the font, and we're good to go! You just modified our quiz and made a whole new one that has your own personal handwriting!

2024 BMW Championship prize money, purse: Payouts from $20M pool for second FedEx Cup Playoffs event

Fifty players vie for their piece of the penultimate prize in the pga tour's postseason.

The FedEx Cup Playoffs field was trimmed from 70 to 50 players, but the prize pool remained the same for the second leg. The BMW Championship divded up $20 million among those who teed it up this week at Castle Pines Golf Club in Colorado. The winner, Keegan Bradley, not only took home $3.6 million but better positioned himself for additional riches ahead of next week's Tour Championship.

Hideki Matsuyama claimed the first playoff event of the season and climbed to third in the FedEx Cup standings, but it only accounted for his second-largest paycheck of the year; he claimed $4 million for his win at the Genesis Invitational. (Matsuyama ultimately  withdrew from this event due to a lower-back injury.)

Scottie Scheffler has cashed a winner's check on six separate occasions on the PGA Tour; he is approaching $30 million earned this season and north of $71 million in his career. In fact, with his most recent finish at the St. Jude Championship, Scheffler surged inside the top five in career earnings on the PGA Tour now trailing only Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson.

The BMW Championship falls in line with the signature events from the regular season when it comes to the winner's share, but those who finish further down the leaderboard will receive an increased amount of money. Everyone inside the top 40 of the 50-man field will clear six figures with those inside the top 20 clearing more than $250,000.

Today, Nintendo held two Nintendo Direct presentations back-to-back: a Partner Showcase and an Indie World event. Here are all of the announcements and reveals from both events!

Nintendo Direct Indie World August 2024 - all the announcements

First, let's start with the Indie World show. Here's everything you need to know from that show!

Balatro 's big crossover adventure

Hugely successful indie poker roguelike  Balatro  is getting a whole bunch of crossovers.  The Witcher ,  Vampire Survivors ,  Dave the Diver , and  Among Us  all made an appearance.

Neva  is very much a new game from the  Gris  folks

The creators of  Gris  are working on a new game,  Neva , which sees you teaming up with a young wolf cub to navigate a very artsy-looking world full of shadows. It's coming to Switch on October 15th.

Moth Kubit  plonks you into an insect bureaucracy

In this surreal RPG, you play as Moth, a worker in a labyrinthine insect bureaucracy who must uncover a sinister conspiracy while also meeting with some very unique characters. This one's heading to Switch next spring.

Coffee Talk Tokyo  is a spinoff set in - you guessed it - Tokyo

Cozy coffee shop sim  Coffee Talk  is getting a spinoff set in Tokyo, and it'll bring the same sort of cute vibes and chilled-out gameplay you've come to expect. You can play it on Switch next year.

DLC sizzle reel time!

Next, we get to see some upcoming DLC for existing games. We get to see  Sea of Stars ' Throes of the Watchmaker DLC (coming spring 2025) and  PowerWash Simulator 's  Shrek  DLC (arriving this fall).

Morsels  is a "grungy" card-based shootin' roguelike

The first ever trailer for Annapurna and developer Furcula's grungy roguelike  Morsels  is up next, and if you like crunchy pixels, you'll love this. Strong  Nuclear Throne  energy to this one. It's coming to Switch in February.

Date Everything!  lets you, well, date everything

It's now time for a look at Team17's inanimate object dating sim  Date Everything! . You might not be able to date literally everything, but the game comes pretty darn close. It hits Switch on October 24th.

Peglin 's "fun and physics-y" goblin adventure comes to Switch

Imagine a cross between  Peggle  and goblins. Got that in your head? That's pretty much what  Peglin  looks like. It's a casual puzzle game roguelike with turn-based battling, and it's heading to Switch as a timed exclusive later today.

Wacky life sim RPG  Wobbly Life  looks fun

If you like  Human: Fall Flat  and  Fantasy Life  and wish they could merge together...well, that's weird, but  Wobbly Life  is for you, and you can play it on Switch in December.

Pico Park 2  features jolly co-operation

Have you played  Pico Park ? Want more of it? Well, naturally,  Pico Park 2  is for you. It features more co-op challenges and lots of different mechanics, so collect your friends and put your friendships to the test later today.

Tetris ' 40th anniversary gets its own compilation

To celebrate 40 years of  Tetris , a new  Tetris  compilation is being released, packing in a whole bunch of old-school  Tetris  games (plus a brand new one) for all the tetrominoes you could hope for. It hits Switch later this year, and the NES version is coming to Switch Online in winter.

Star Overdrive  is a "high-speed sci-fi adventure"

Dear Villagers showed off a new open-world-looking sci-fi adventure called  Star Overdrive , which features truly radical-looking board traversal, melee combat, and Zelda -style puzzles. You can play it as a timed exclusive on Switch next year.

Goat Simulator 3  is coming to Switch

Yep.  Goat Simulator 3 , the hi-lariously wacky sandbox adventure from Coffee Stain, is coming to Nintendo Switch in all its goatly glory. The Switch gets its goat on later today, and a physical version's coming in November.

Fitness Boxing 3: Your Personal Trainer  wants to help you get fit

A new  Fitness Boxing  game is heading to Switch, and it's got new workout features and brand new exercise-friendly songs to help you get fitter. This one boxes its way to Switch on December 5th.

Capcom Fighting Collection 2  wants to take you for another ride

Eight retro Capcom fighting games are coming to Switch as part of this brand new collection. Between Capcom crossover games,  Street Fighter  classics, and even the Dreamcast's  Power Stone , there's plenty here for fighting aficionados. It hits Switch next year.

Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics  is also heading to the Switch in September.

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land  arrives next year

Another improbably-titled  Atelier  adventure is coming to Switch sometime early next year, and it looks exactly like what you'd expect from the series; lots of highfalutin storytelling, a wondrous land to explore, and more.

Suikoden I & II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars  arrives in March

That name's a real mouthful, isn't it? Remasters of the first two  Suikoden  games were announced almost two years ago , and today, we learned they're heading to Switch on March 6th.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake  sure does look pretty

It's a quick look at  Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake  next, and it sure does look nice with Square Enix's signature HD-2D style . As we know, this one's coming on November 14th.

Castlevania Dominus Collection  resurrects three classics

Now this is what I'm talking about. The three  Castlevania  DS adventures - that's  Dawn of Sorrow ,  Portrait of Ruin , and  Order of Ecclesia  - are getting Switch re-releases later today, along with arcade classic  Haunted Castle .

Sid Meier's Civilization VII  hits Switch in February

As was announced during last week's Gamescom show,  Civilization VII  is coming in February, and it's coming to Switch as well. We got to see some of the game in action during today's show.

Tales of Graces f Remastered  celebrates the series' 30th anniversary in January

If you're a big fan of the  Tales  JRPG series, you'll appreciate this one.  Tales of Graces f  is getting a remaster, complete with new destination icons, the ability to toggle battles, and more. It comes to Switch on January 17th.

MySims Cozy Bundle  is a cute take on  The Sims

The Sims  meets  Animal Crossing  probably isn't the perfect pitch for  MySims Cozy Bundle , but it's not a million miles off either. You'll be able to play two remastered  MySims  games on Switch on November 19th.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted 2  jumpscares its way to Switch this holiday

As if the Switch couldn't get spooky enough, Nintendo announced that  Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted 2  is making its way to Switch this holiday season. Not only that, but  Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach  is getting some free DLC, too.

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma  is a new "fresh take" on the series

Promising a "bigger adventure than ever before",  Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma  sees you dancing and using sacred objects to help grow crops, revitalize the land, and restore Azuma to its former glory.

There's also a community of NPCs to meet, lots of monsters to fight, and a beautiful anime-inspired world to explore.  Guardians of Azuma  comes to Switch in spring 2025.

Yakuza Kiwami  brings Kiryu and Majima to Switch

Lastly, it's time for Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima to make their way to the Switch, as  Yakuza Kiwami  arrives on Nintendo's console on October 24th. Interestingly enough, it hasn't been renamed to  Like a Dragon Kiwami  in keeping with the series' name change.

Watch: the full democratic national convention celebratory roll call.

The NPR Network will be reporting live from Chicago throughout the week bringing you  the latest on the Democratic National Convention .

Delegates to the Democratic National Convention held a ceremonial — and celebratory — roll call vote to mark what they’d already made official earlier this month with a virtual vote: Vice President Kamala Harris’ selection as the party’s presidential nominee.

The unconventional roll call was facilitated by a DJ, with a unique songs playing as the call moved from state to state. "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd for Alabama, for example.

Here's what song each state chose.

Florida's song was "Won't Back Down" by Tom Petty (possibly a snarky reference to the Never Back Down, Inc., super PAC, set up to encourage Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis' unsuccessful presidential candidacy?).

Loud cheers went up from the convention crowd as the voting moved from state to state. Participants announced their support for Harris and Walz, and touted their individual states' accomplishments, including the Hawaii delegation, which noted its status as the birthplace of former President Obama, and Illinois, where Obama won the first victory of his presidential campaign in the 2008 caucuses.

Several high-profile Democrats who’d been discussed as potential running mates for Harris participated in the roll call, including Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro.

Participants also called attention to key issues of importance to Democratic voters, including reproductive rights and gun violence. Representing Nevada was a survivor of the October 1, 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting .

Cecile Richards, the former president of Planned Parenthood and daughter of the late former Texas Gov. Ann Richards, introduced Kate Cox, a Texas woman who became a Democratic activist after being turned away for an abortion under Texas law.

The count wrapped up with a nod to the candidates’ home states — California for Harris and Minnesota for her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz.

Surprise releases and more in an Indie World Showcase/Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase double feature

Today, Nintendo dropped its first ever back-to-back Indie World Showcase and Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase presentations, revealing a huge slate of games from publishing and development partners coming to the Nintendo Switch™ family of systems through Holiday 2024 and beyond.

The Indie World Showcase got things started with updates and reveals such as the release of fast-paced 2D platforming adventure Pizza Tower later today, a free update for the poker-themed deck-building game in Balatro: Friends of Jimbo , also available later today, and the announcement of Coffee Talk Tokyo, a fresh installment in the Coffee Talk series, coming to Nintendo Switch in 2025 .

This presentation was immediately followed by a Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, spotlighting the debut of the acclaimed action-adventure Yakuza Kiwami on Nintendo Switch, releasing on Oct. 24; a celebration of the iconic Tetris series in Tetris Forever , launching in 2024; the full-body workout of Fitness Boxing 3: Your Personal Trainer, launching Dec. 5; a new collection of games from the charming life sim series in MySims: Cozy Bundle , launching Nov. 19; the latest chance to rewrite history in Sid Meier’s Civilization VII , releasing on Nintendo Switch Feb. 11, 2025, and a whole lot more!

The dual showcase also featured updates on titles such as the squad-based arena combat STAR WARS: Hunters™ and the classic fantasy RPG DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake . Viewers also saw teases of the Disney Dreamlight Valley “End of Summer” in-game mini-event among many other announcements.

Charge through the wacky floors of the tower at high speed, quickly defeating enemies on your way, and adapt to a variety of obstacles and transformations. Follow Peppino through his rampage and experience the highly stylized 2D pixel art style reminiscent of 90s cartoons, when Pizza Tower charges onto Nintendo Switch later today.

Balatro: Friends of Jimbo : In this free update to the critically acclaimed roguelike deckbuilder Balatro , players will be able to use cards inspired by four notable video game titles, play even more illegal poker hands, discover game-changing jokers, and trigger adrenaline-pumping, outrageous combos. The update features cards from The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt , Vampire Survivors , DAVE THE DIVER and Among Us – each with its very own art based on the respective game. Balatro: Friends of Jimbo will launch on Nintendo Switch later today.

Coffee Talk Tokyo : The visual novel Coffee Talk Tokyo is the next instalment in the award-winning Coffee Talk series. Players take on the role of the barista in a late-night coffee shop in Tokyo, where the customers may be supernatural, but their problems are all too human. Listen to the stories of new customers, serve them comforting drinks and offer a compassionate ear – all set to the soothing backdrop of original lo-fi tracks by series composer Andrew Jeremy. Coffee Talk Tokyo is ready to pour onto Nintendo Switch in 2025.

PowerWash Simulator – Shrek Special Pack DLC: Wash away the grime covering five fairy tale maps from the Shrek universe, including Shrek’s very own swamp and the Dragon’s Lair, in this new paid DLC*. Don a shiny suit of armour with a new knight-themed character model, tackle a mini-campaign solo or with a friend in online co-op**, or assemble a cleaning squad of up to six players in Free Play***. The PowerWash Simulator – Shrek Special Pack DLC makes a splash on Nintendo Switch in Fall 2024.

Peglin : In this roguelike pachinko-inspired RPG, you’re on a quest to take revenge on some gold-stealing dragons. Aim orbs and hit pegs to deal damage in turn-based battles. Collect and upgrade a variety of different orbs as you progress, each with its own powers. The pegs themselves can have peculiar properties too, and rare passive power-ups called relics also add a range of game-changing effects. Aiming carefully, and combining the effects of orbs, pegs and relics can lead to some spectacular combos! You’ll explore a new map on every run and successfully completing runs unlocks harder difficulty modes. Teach those dragons a lesson when Peglin bounces onto Nintendo Switch as a timed console exclusive later today.

Morsels : Play as a mouse and fight against the evil forces of predatory cats in this grungy yet whimsical top-down action-roguelike. Deep below the dangerous upper worlds, you meet a sentient Fatberg who, with the help of some magical cards, allow you to transform into mighty little monsters, called Morsels. Set off to the upper worlds with your newfound powers, collect other Morsels and strategically transform into them as you go to make use of their unique abilities. Battle against the cats’ wicked forces when Morsels launches for Nintendo Switch in February 2025.

Wobbly Life : In the vibrant open-world physics sandbox of Wobbly Life , almost everything is interactive. Grandma has kicked you out of her home, demanding that you get a job. Choose from over 50 unique missions and jobs to tackle on your own, or make your simulated life easier by teaming up with another player online** or via local co-op. Once you’ve earned some sweet in-game cash, there are more than 90 vehicles and over 250 clothing items to spend it on. Grab, play and experiment in a world filled with props, mini-games, wacky story missions and surprises. Live your best wobbly life when Wobbly Life arrives on Nintendo Switch in December 2024.

Date Everything!: In this sandbox dating simulator, players can, indeed, date pretty much everything they encounter – namely 100 characters ranging from household objects to appliances and even concepts. Engage in flirtatious, branching dialogue with these fully voiced characters as you get to know them and form meaningful relationships. Choices can result not just in love, but also in friendship, or even disdain. Date Everything! releases for Nintendo Switch on Oct. 24.

Neva : From the team behind the critically-acclaimed GRIS comes Neva – an emotionally-charged action adventure that chronicles the story of Alba, a young woman bound to a curious young wolf cub, Neva, following a traumatic encounter with dark forces. Together, they embark on a perilous journey through a once-beautiful world, as it falls into decay around them. Early on, Alba will need to nurture Neva – but as their journey progresses, a larger and more ferocious Neva will step up as the protector of her mother figure. Experience a touching story of mother-child bonds when Neva comes to the Nintendo Switch system on Oct. 15.

Sea of Stars – Throes of the Watchmaker DLC: Discover a miniature clockwork world in this free DLC* for the critically-acclaimed and multi-award-winning RPG Sea of Stars . Gear up for a journey full of oddities and wonders, in which Valere and Zale will have to play by new rules to stop a cursed carnival. Zale will transform into a skilful juggler, while Valere will dazzle as an acrobat. Together with new playable character Arty, they’ll explore new areas, traverse new dungeons and encounter new enemies, bosses and puzzles in their quest to save the world of Horloge. Moth Kubit : Crawl your way up the corporate ladder of an insect mega corporation in this surreal RPG, where you’ll take on the role of Moth Kubit, an ordinary employee who’s recently earned a promotion. Tread carefully though – mysteries abound and the threat of a sinister event known as the “Final Process” is looming. As you investigate, you’ll meet bugs from all walks of life, some of whom you’ll befriend, and others who must be taken down in verbal showdowns with multiple dialogue choices. Your choices will influence how the story progresses, so keep your eyes open – this bizarre world holds many secrets to unravel, and multiple endings to experience. PICO PARK 2 : Cooperation is key in this sequel to action-puzzle platformer PICO PARK . Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024: All The Biggest Announcements

Gamescom: Opening Night Live has officially wrapped, bringing to a close two hours of announcements, reveals, and plenty of gameplay trailers for upcoming games. The big takeaway here is that the next couple of months are going to be very busy, as several studios and publishers confirmed release dates for their titles.

There were also some big surprises that somehow didn't manage to leak before the livestream kicked off, as a teaser trailer for Borderlands 4, a release date reveal for the Indiana Jones game, and the wonderfully weird Infinity Nikki got its moment in the spotlight.

It has been a hot minute since InZoi--Krafton's take on The Sims--has been in the spotlight, but Gamescom ONL had a fresh trailer for the upcoming life-simulation game. While InZoi doesn't have a release date yet, anyone interested in the game can check out its impressive character-creator toolset on Steam from August 21-26.

Sniper Elite: Resistance

With every new Sniper Elite game, the tide has been turning against the Axis forces in this World War II-era game series. Sniper Elite: Resistance continues that push to drive the Nazis out of Europe, and it'll be out in 2025. The big twist here? The game will star an entirely new protagonist who happens to have a talent for making Axis skulls explode with one well-placed bullet to the noggin.

Borderlands 4

We got our first look at Borderlands 4 during Opening Night Live with a brand-new cinematic trailer teasing ripped dimensions, a planet scarred by veins of Eridium, and a mysterious robotic hand reaching for the signature mask of a Pandoran bandit. The game will be out in 2025.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

An extended look at a Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 mission was shown off, and unsurprisingly, it was full of bullets, explosions, and a glimpse at former US president Bill Clinton. The game is looking as visually impressive as ever with its blockbuster-style pacing, and this year's entry in the series looks like it came straight out of a '90s action movie.

Goat Simulator Remastered

Coffee Stain Studios revealed that Goat Simulator is getting a fancy remaster--in what was easily the best trailer of the night--for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and it'll be out later this year. Originally released in 2014, Goat Simulator Remastered will include all previously released DLC from the PC version, the previously mobile-exclusive GoatVille High map, reworked mutators, and improved graphics.

Squid Games: Unleashed

After the breakout success of Squid Games last year, it was only a matter of time before the Korean TV series got a video game adaptation. Netflix announced Squid Game: Unleashed at Opening Night Live, and while we only got the merest glimpse of gameplay, it looks like we'll be playing a few of the twisted games from the TV show in this adaptation.

We got a look at the gameplay and the behind-the-scenes development of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle during Opening Night Live. Narrated by Troy Baker--who voices Indy in the game--the video also showed off some of the two-fisted archeologist's gear that players will use to explore ancient tombs.

The big news here was that Indiana Jones will launch on PC and Xbox Series X|S on December 9, and it'll land on PS5 in Spring 2025.

Judging by the brief teaser trailer, it looks like players will be headed to Sicily in the early 1900s in the next Mafia game. More details will be revealed in December.

Nintendo Indie World & Direct Partner Showcase presentation announced for this week

This Tuesday, Nintendo will go live with about 40 minutes of news and reveals of games from indie studios and Nintendo partners coming to the Switch.

Nintendo has a double-header of presentations set to cap off August 2024, and they’re running back to back tomorrow. Bright and early, we’ll be waking up to a Nintendo Indie World presentation that shows off the latest and upcoming indie games coming to Nintendo Switch, followed by a Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase that shows off news and reveals of games from Nintendo partnered studios.

Nintendo announced the back-to-back Indie World and Direct Partner Showcase presentation this week via its social media channels . On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET, Nintendo will go live with the presentation on the Nintendo YouTube channel . There, it will show roughly 40 minutes of game news and updates that starts with the Indie World presentation and goes right into the Partner Showcase.

It will be interesting to see what Nintendo has for us in this double-header presentation. Many have been waiting for a long time to see news on Hollow Knight: Silksong and there’s a wide variety of other great indies that would look good on the Switch (our fingers are crossed for a Crow Country Switch reveal).

Ho hum. Sept Nintendo direct is what I’m waiting for.

What if the September Direct is just for Zelda?

If it’s just Zelda A) I will be sad B) NTDOY tanks and I buy more C) I uninstall slay the spire and start working through my first party backlog.

I just don't think Nintendo is going to reveal Switch 2 before the Holiday quarter.

I know :-( let me hope. Business sense, I think the biggest announcement is they drop the price of the switch by $50 and is bundled with mariokart8 or something. Helps them make their stated # for the fiscal year. I hope they tease some new online infrastructure stuff that will work for current switch games and also will be used for the switch2.

are they gonna announce the super switch then? wasn't it around that time of year the original switch was announced?

They weren’t selling any WiiUs at that point. Switch is still selling just as much as ps5 & Xbox. If they aren’t dropping switch2 before the holidays why eat into that $$.

They want to announce it and control the messaging before production begins and actual photos of it get leaked from manufacturing.

Switch 2 has supposedly started mass production of components already

We might get leaks when these things start being assembled though, we'll see!

Don't expect it before early next year. The Switch gets one last holiday push and then Switch 2 launches some time after March.

I wanna know what Nintendo does with the original switch when the switch 2 launches. If they can drop it to $199 and the switch lite to $150 (or even $99) they'll make a killing.

I hope there is still some support. I've not really touched mine, but it's nice when traveling to have something.

I think it’ll get a year or two of overlapping support like the 3DS did, longer depending on the game. If it’s a smaller game (AAs, indies, etc) then support can be indefinite, maybe not to the degree of the PS4 but certainly longer than it used to be.

I think they outta continue to sell the switch at a very low price point and just take in margins from software sales. Still a lot of folks around the world who haven’t played.
