The hidden expiration date on every export letter of credit.

However, another date equal in importance is referred to as the last date for presentation. The presentation period—the window of time in which the exporter must present documents—is tied to the ship date as indicated in the original transport document.

Letter of Credit Presentation Period

A letter of credit includes terminology similar to “documents must be presented within 10 days after the bill of lading date but within the validity of the letter of credit.” For example, if the shipment took place on January 1, documents must be presented no later than January 11 or the expiration date if earlier. If the expiration date is January 5, documents must be presented by January 5, not the 11th.

Some letters of credit require a presentation period of seven days, some 15, etc. If the letter of credit does not state a presentation date, the exporter has 21 days according to UCP Article 14c. Exporters should be aware of this requirement and feel confident they can work within the stated time period. If not, they should request an amendment.

Why does a letter of credit include these time requirements? The importer stipulates them because a delay in presentation can create problems. When the goods arrive at the customs entry point, the importer needs the documents to clear the goods. If not cleared in a timely manner, the goods will go into storage and incur daily charges.

With a short presentation period, the importer can force the exporter to deliver the documents to the bank quickly. Once the documents enter banking channels, they will find their way to the importer in due time for customs clearance.

An alert exporter, however, must ask several key questions:

• How quickly after shipment can the documents be assembled and presented to the bank?
• Can unusual situations cause delays?
• Can the consular's signature be obtained (for a specific country) within the time limit?

Some consulates are located in distant cities and only sign documents once a week. If the appointed day for signing documents falls on a holiday, in either country involved in the transaction, then one more week must be added to the time frame. While 10, 15 or even 21 days may seem like adequate time, it can slip away quickly.

信用状条件の未充足とディスクレ

Inconsistency in documents, incorrect data, late shipment, late presentation, letter of credit expired, absence of documents, carrier not defined on the bill of lading, incorrect description of goods, incorrect endorsement / absence of endorsement, partial shipment or transshipment effected despite l/c terms, short shipment, overdrawing, l/cの訂正（amend）の依頼, l/cのamendが間に合わない場合, 輸入者に対するディスクレ発生の通知.

前回（「 第19回　貿易取引で売主が支払督促を行う場合の英文メール・督促状（Demand Letter）の書き方と法的手続 」）は、メールによる支払遅延の事実の通知と督促や、支払いその他相手方に債務の履行を迫る場合の督促状（Demand Letter）の文例と法的手続についてご紹介しました。今回は、信用状付荷為替決済（L/C決済）であっても支払い（為替手形の買取）が拒絶される可能性がある「ディスクレ」について取りあげます。

　L/Cが開設されてしまえば、決済については安心かといえば必ずしもそうではありません（L/Cの開設と規定については「 第15回 信用状付荷為替決済（L/C決済）の為替手形と開設依頼書 」を参照ください）。 　L/Cで規定されている船積期限（Latest Date for Shipment）に船積みできなかったり、L/Cの有効期限（Expiry Date）内に銀行にネゴ（買取依頼）に持ち込むことができなかったりすると、輸出者は信用状条件の未充足として輸出者の取引銀行に買取り（支払い）を拒否されてしまいます。

　信用状条件の未充足（または不一致）のことを「ディスクレ」（ディスクレパンシー（discrepancy）の略）といいます。ディスクレの要因は、船積遅れや期限後の買取依頼のような実体的なものだけでなく、書類に記載された文字や数字などの違いといったものまで含まれます。 　呈示されたネゴ書類にディスクレがある場合、信用状発行銀行の支払確約は無効となります。L/Cに基づく発行銀行、指定銀行、買取銀行の支払義務は、あくまでも「呈示が充足している（Complying Presentation）」場合の銀行の義務なのです（信用状統一規則（UCP600）15条） 1 。

主たるディスクレの種類

　ディスクレとして代表的なものは、以下のような場合です。

　書類間での記述の不一致がある場合です。 　（例）パッキングリストに表示されているコンテナー番号がB/L上のコンテナー番号と異なる場合

　L/Cで要求されている条件を満たしていない場合です。 　（例）海上保険の付保率（カバレッジ） 2 がL/Cで要求されている率と異なる場合

　L/Cで定められているLatest Date for Shipmentよりも、B/L Dateの遅い船に積んだ場合です。

　UCP600では、信用状の有効期限について「信用状は、呈示のための有効期限を記載しなければならない」と定めています。一方、呈示期限については、UCP600第14条C項にて船積み後21日以内かつL/Cの有効期限内」と定められています 3 。 　そこで、B/L Dateから21日を経過後にネゴ書類を銀行に呈示した場合は、ディスクレとなります。なお、呈示期間は、開設銀行が同意すれば、21日よりも長くできますが、書類の提示がL/Cの有効期限を超えることは認められません。

　L/Cの有効期限経過後のネゴの場合です。

　書類が不足している場合です。 （例）L/CではB/L原本をフルセット（3枚）要求しているのに、1枚しか原本が呈示されていない場合

　B/L上に本船名が不在の場合です。詳しくは、UCP 600 第20条を参照のこと。

　L/C上で規定されている貨物名（商品名）と船積書類に記載されている名称（綴りを含む）が異なる場合です。

　B/Lや保険証書など、輸出者が裏書きすべき書面に裏書きをしていない場合です 4 。

　分割船積や積替は、荷物の損傷を招きやすいので、L/Cにおいて禁止されていることが多く 5 、これに反して分割船積や積替を行った場合です。

　約定数量を下回った場合です。「数量過不足容認条件（More or Less Terms）」については、「 第17回 信用状（L/C）の受領後の船積実務 」2−2を参照のこと。

　L/C金額を超過するネゴ金額となった場合です。

　受け取ったL/Cの内容がそもそも間違っている場合（会社名や商品名の綴り、金額、船積期日や呈示期日・有効期限など）には、ただちに買主（輸入者）にL/Cの記載内容の訂正を依頼する必要があります。 　納期がLatest Date for Shipmentに間に合いそうになくなった場合など、後発事象が生じた場合で、まだ相手方にL/Cを訂正してもらえる時間的余裕があると判断される場合には頭を下げてAmendを依頼します。Amendの文例は「 第16回 信用状（L/C）の開設通知と訂正依頼 」を参照ください。

　実務的にはディスクレの内容および買取依頼人（輸出者）の信用度に応じて、次の3つの取扱方法があります 6 。

（1）ケーブルネゴ扱い

　ケーブルネゴ扱い（Cable Negotiation、Cable Inquiry）では、ディスクレの内容を列挙し、SWIFT 7 等の電信により買取銀行を通じて発行銀行（開設銀行）に買取の可否を照会します。 　発行銀行の応諾回答に基づき銀行買取が行われますが、この方法は照会の案件のみに有効です。したがって、同じL/Cで引き続き船積み・決済をする場合には、L/CのAmendをしてもらった方がよいでしょう。 　なお、発行銀行に書類が到着した後に、新たなディスクレが発見された場合、発行銀行が発行依頼人にディスクレ受入れの可否を問い合わせることが認められているため、支払いを受けられない、遅延するなどの可能性があります。

　L/Gネゴ扱い（L/G Negotiation）は、買取銀行に対して輸出者の損害賠償念書（「万一信用状発行銀行が買取を拒絶した場合には、貴行が当社にお支払いになったネゴ金額は返還いたしますから、ディスクレ付きですが、買取りお願いします」という念書。一般的にはLetter of Guarantee: L/G、またはLetter of Indemnity: L/Iといいます）を差し入れし、買取りをしてもらう方法で、主にディスクレ内容が軽微な場合に用いられます。買取銀行がL/Gネゴ扱いを受け入れるか否かは、輸出者の信用力次第です。なぜなら買取銀行としては、発行銀行が買取りを拒絶した場合には、輸出者から買取金額全額を返還してもらうことになるからです。 　L/Gネゴ扱いは、買取銀行と輸出者との間の「特約」としての効果に過ぎず、発行銀行には支払いの義務はありません。すなわち、発行銀行が書類を点検後、ディスクレを理由に支払いを拒絶することはあり得るのです。

（3）アプルーバル扱い

　アプルーバル扱い（Approval扱い、取立扱い）では、ディスクレ付き書類の支払呈示に対しては、発行銀行の支払確約は無効となります。そこで、輸出地の銀行は買取りをせず、発行銀行がディスクレを承認した後に支払う条件で船積書類を発行銀行宛てに送付します（いわゆる取立扱いの手形代金回収）。なお、アプルーバル扱いが準拠する国際ルールは、ICC取立統一規則（URC522）となります。

　ディスクレが起きていても、輸入者（L/C開設者）にアクセプトしてもらえれば、ケーブルネゴも容易になります。また、L/Gネゴした場合にも、発行銀行が当該ネゴ書類の買取りを拒絶することないよう口添えしてもらえます。 輸入者に対する通知文には、ディスクレの内容と生じた理由を分かりやすく書き込みます。

• Discrepancy for B/L Vessel name As for the “Vessel name” indicated in this B/L, you will see as “OSAKA MARU V.1233”, but this should be “OSAKA MARU V.1234” as shown in our Invoice and Packing list. We are currently asking to our forwarder to revise B/L for this part. We will send this as soon as it is revised, so please replace the B/L with this new one. （We are expecting to receive this revised B/L on May 17th）
• Discrepancy for Sailing date Also, we have expected this ship to depart on May 9th, but due to the strike in Hong Kong, the actual shipment date shifted to May 12th. Possibly, our bank will point out this difference so please be noted and accept this discrepancy as well. We appreciate your kind cooperation.
• B/L記載の本船名のディスクレ B/L記載の本船名は “大阪丸 V.1233”となっておりますが、インボイスやパッキングリストにありますとおり、正しくは “大阪丸 V.1234” です。現在、当社の運送業者にB/Lの改訂を依頼しています。B/Lの修正が完了次第、そちらへお送りしますので差し替えていただきたいです（改訂されたB/Lは5月17日に受領する予定です）。
• 出港日のディスクレ 本船は5月9日に出港を予定していましたが、香港でのストライキにより実際の出港は5月12日にずれこみました。 おそらく買取銀行からディスクレの連絡が届くことになるため、このディスクレにつきましてもご留意いただき、受け入れてくださるようお願い申し上げます。 以上ご協力のほど何卒お願い申し上げます。

（※）ディスクレによりL/C決済が行われなくなったとしても、相手方に品物が引き渡されている場合には、支払請求債権自体は喪失しているわけではないので、通常の支払督促・請求手続を行うことになります。

Field 48 (‘Period for presentation in days’) in Letter of Credit (L/C)

F48 is an optional field in MT700 swift message of Documentary letter of credit.

F48 (Period of Presentation) field defines the period of time in calendar days by which the presentation of documents should be made in the negotiating bank. The beneficiary will do the presentation/negotiation to get the payment.

From the F44C(Latest Date of Shipment) , the countdown will start. Normally the period is up to the LC expiry date mentioned in F31D(Date and Place of Expiry).

The date can be mentioned 7,10,14,21 any days as agreed between buyer and seller but not later than the LC expiry date.

If the field is not mentioned in the documentary credit then a default of 21 days is considered. But must not exceed the expiry date as I told you earlier.

Within this presentation period, the beneficiary submits negotiable documents mentioned in 46A(Documents Required)   to the presenting bank as per instruction in F41D or F41A(Available With..By…)

As a common practice, LC  validity is kept 90days (one quarter) to maintain the same charge. In that case, the latest date of shipment is mentioned as 69 days. The presentation period is 21 days if there’s no specific requirement from the buyer or seller.

The presentation can be both Electronic records or paper documents.

Is it possible for a period of presentation in an L/C to exceed 21 days? Let’s say 60 days from bill of lading date but within the LC validity.

As a go-to presentation tool, Google Slides already comes equipped with real-time collaboration features. Starting today, we’re introducing new robust features to help you and your team win that pitch, nail that client presentation and get buy-in for new ideas—all while saving valuable time.

Here’s a look at the latest updates in Slides, including new G Suite integrations, partner applications and customization options.

Capture ideas in Keep, bring them to life in Slides

We built Keep to help you easily capture and organize ideas. Today, you can use a new drag-and-drop integration between Keep and Slides to transform these ideas into action. Simply select notes from Keep (or  sort with #labels ) and drag them into Slides. When you add a note from Keep into your presentation, Slides will automatically add a title and description for you.

The Office of Information Technology for the State of Colorado uses the new Keep and Slides integration to keep track of population numbers at different agencies and report them to their team. Instead of digging through emails and Docs to track down figures, the team saves statistics to Keep and drags them into Slides to present.

Skip manual updates, use linked Slides

Whether you’re trying to prepare several client presentations or make sure data is up to date, repeatedly copying slides from one presentation to another is a major time-sink. Now, you can link and sync slides from multiple presentations with a click. This way, you can maintain a single source of truth and easily update linked slides to match the source, like for quarterly business reviews or company presentations.

Sriram Iyer, Senior Director of Product Management at Salesforce Sales Cloud, is excited to use the new slide embedding feature to streamline his teams workflows. Says Iyer, “At Salesforce, we use Google Slides for customer-facing and internal presentations. The linked slides feature will help us easily keep presentations up-to-date.”

We’re constantly improving Slides to provide you with robust tools to share ideas. Today, we’re bringing add-ons to Slides. To kick it off, we’re introducing seven  integrations—designed to bring expertise from companies like Adobe and Shutterstock—right in Slides.

Use these new, rich integrations to help you build more powerful presentations, whether you want to add full-bleed images, use advanced image editing tools or include diagrams you created in programs outside of G Suite.

• Search for and add images from Adobe Stock , right in Slides. You can use the Adobe Stock add-on to build visually-stunning presentations in Slides. Teams can seamlessly search, preview and purchase Adobe Stock images—without leaving Slides. Through the add-on, teams can also use Adobe Stock Visual Search to find relevant stock images with an uploaded image (versus a text search).

• Use the Shutterstock Editor add-on to add and customize photos within Slides. With the Shutterstock add-on , teams can browse Shutterstock’s entire library of royalty-free images, and sign into Shutterstock to license content, directly in Slides. Select an image, then apply customization options like filters, text, logos and more.

Teams can benefit from even more powerful capabilities in Slides with additional add-ons from Balsamiq , Lucidchart , Pear Deck , Noun Project and Unsplash . Tap “Add-ons” in the Slides menu bar to get started.

Customize Slides, automate workflows with Apps Script

Apps Script, the same technology that powers add-ons, can transform the way you work. Apps Script for Slides lets your teams programmatically create and modify Slides, and customize the menus, dialog boxes and sidebars in the user interface.

So, what’s the big deal? Apps Script provides amazing possibilities for improving your team’s workflows. Sales teams can use Apps Script to automatically pull in information from Sheets’ databases to create customized client pitch decks and templates. Marketing teams can host internal assets in a customized sidebar in Slides for easy access to logos and files they use most often.

CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA  Apple today introduced iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini , the next generation of the world’s best smartphone, featuring a beautiful design with sleek flat edges in five gorgeous new colors. Both models feature major innovations, including the most advanced dual-camera system ever on iPhone — with a new Wide camera with bigger pixels and sensor-shift optical image stabilization (OIS) offering improvements in low-light photos and videos, a new way to personalize the camera with Photographic Styles, and Cinematic mode, which brings a new dimension to video storytelling. iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini also boast super-fast performance and power efficiency with A15 Bionic, longer battery life, a brighter Super Retina XDR display that brings content to life, incredible durability with the Ceramic Shield front cover, double the entry-level storage at 128GB, an industry-leading IP68 rating for water resistance, and an advanced 5G experience.

iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini have been redesigned on the inside and out, and come in five gorgeous colors featuring a durable flat-edge design and an elegant aluminum frame. The 6.1-inch and 5.4-inch displays 2 feature Ceramic Shield on the front, exclusive to iPhone and tougher than any smartphone glass. Both models have an industry-leading IP68 rating for water resistance, 3 and are designed to protect against spills from common liquids. A redesigned rear camera layout with diagonally arranged lenses enables the advanced dual-camera system, and a redesigned TrueDepth camera system is smaller while still packing in the same breakthrough technologies, including Face ID, the most secure facial authentication in a smartphone, but offering more display area. 

The improved Super Retina XDR OLED displays deliver an incredible contrast ratio for true blacks and a 28 percent increase in max outdoor brightness at 800 nits, with higher peak brightness for HDR content like photos and videos at 1200 nits, all while being more power efficient.

Major battery life improvements come to both iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, made possible by A15 Bionic, more efficient components, a larger battery, and power optimizations from a deep integration of hardware and software. iPhone 13 delivers incredible all-day battery life, 4  offering up to two and a half more hours in a day than iPhone 12, and iPhone 13 mini provides up to an hour and a half more in a day than iPhone 12 mini.

iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini represent a massive leap in camera design with advancements in hardware and computational photography that deliver stunning photos and videos. The new Wide camera, with 1.7 µm pixels, comes with the biggest sensor ever in an iPhone dual-camera system and is capable of gathering 47 percent more light for less noise and brighter results. Sensor-shift OIS — a technology introduced in iPhone 12 Pro Max and not found in any other smartphone — also comes to the Wide camera, even in the more compact iPhone 13 mini. It stabilizes the sensor instead of the lens so shots are more steady, while the custom-designed Ultra Wide camera with a new sensor captures images with more detail in the dark areas of photos and videos with less noise.

Following extensive study of cinematography and the powerful use of rack focus, Cinematic mode on iPhone records videos of people, pets, and objects with a beautiful depth effect with automatic focus changes, so anyone can capture cinema-style moments, even if they aren’t a professional filmmaker. For creative control, the focus can be changed during and after capture, and users can also adjust the level of bokeh in the Photos app and iMovie for iOS, and coming soon to iMovie for macOS and Final Cut Pro, 5 making the iPhone 13 lineup the only devices able to edit the depth-of-field effect in video even after recording. Enabled by A15 Bionic and advanced machine learning algorithms, Cinematic mode records in Dolby Vision HDR. Both models also offer HDR video recording with Dolby Vision — from capture to editing and sharing — now supported for 4K up to 60 fps on all cameras.

A faster Neural Engine in A15 Bionic, new image signal processor (ISP), and advancements in computational photography power all-new features on iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini. Photographic Styles allows users to bring their personal photo preferences to every image while still benefitting from Apple’s multiframe image processing. Preset and customized preferences work across scenes and subjects, and unlike a simple filter, intelligently apply the right adjustments to different parts of the photo to ensure the important elements, like skin tones, are preserved. The dual-camera system and power of computational photography support Smart HDR 4, now with improved color, contrast, and lighting for each subject in a group photo, including in challenging conditions, making images more true to life, as well as improved Night mode. And the TrueDepth camera supports all the amazing new camera features, including Cinematic mode, Photographic Styles, Smart HDR 4, and more.

A15 Bionic is much faster than the competition, delivering more performance and better power efficiency, making everything even more fluid in the iPhone 13 lineup. It uses 5-nanometer technology and has nearly 15 billion transistors to tackle the most demanding tasks, including the latest computational photography features. A new 6-core CPU with two high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores is up to 50 percent faster than the competition, the fastest in any smartphone, and handles demanding tasks smoothly and efficiently, while the new 4-core GPU is up to 30 percent faster than the competition and enables more lifelike visuals and lighting effects in graphics-intensive games. The new 16-core Neural Engine is capable of 15.8 trillion operations per second, enabling even faster machine learning computations for third-party app experiences, as well as features like Live Text in Camera with iOS 15. Major advancements to the next-generation ISP, paired with computational photography and powerful camera hardware, combine to create the new dual-camera system.

The world is quickly moving to 5G, and iPhone offers an advanced 5G experience, transforming the way users connect, share, and enjoy content. The customized hardware design in the iPhone 13 lineup features more 5G bands, allowing it to work in more places on 5G for greater coverage and performance. 6 By the end of 2021, support for 5G on iPhone will double around the globe, with over 200 carriers worldwide in 60 countries and regions. Users can experience higher-quality video streaming on their favorite platforms, more competitive gameplay in multiplayer games, faster download and upload speeds, and so much more. iPhone 13 is designed to minimize its impact on the environment, including antenna lines that use upcycled plastic water bottles that have been chemically transformed into a stronger, high-performance material — an industry first. iPhone also uses 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in magnets like those used in MagSafe, 100 percent recycled tin in the solder of the main logic board and, for the first time, in the solder of the battery management unit. Both models also use 100 percent recycled gold in the plating of the main logic board and the wire in the front camera and rear cameras. Redesigned packaging eliminates the outer plastic wrap, avoiding 600 metric tons of plastic and bringing Apple closer to its goal of completely removing plastic from all packaging by 2025.

Today, Apple is carbon neutral for global corporate operations, and by 2030, plans to have net zero climate impact across the entire business, which includes manufacturing supply chains and all product life cycles. How to Insert the Current Date/Time in Microsoft PowerPoint

A date can complement your presentation and your handouts. Often neglected, but easily done. We show you how to add a custom date and time in PowerPoint.

Good presentations need little touches. With screen real estate at a premium when it comes to Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, you also need to justify design with functionality.

One of the little touches you can add to your presentation to impress your audience is the display of time and date on a PowerPoint slideshow. It's an essential option if you are using handouts too. Thankfully, this is very easy to accomplish and will make your presentation complete.

Without counting the seconds, let's dive straight into the method.

Add the Current Time and Date to a PowerPoint Slide

First, open your PowerPoint document and get to the View tab on the Ribbon. Choose the Normal view. Select the first slide of the slideshow.

Next, click on the Insert tab and go to the Text group. Click on the little Date and Time icon, which gives you options to insert the current date and time into the PowerPoint document.

Clicking on the Date and Time icon opens up the Header and Footer dialog box. Using the two tabs (as in the screenshot) we can add the date and time values to our main slides. Likewise, we can add the same details to Notes and Handouts , which we usually print out and give to the audience as reference material.

The next few steps are pretty simple—choose the date and time format from the drop-down. Selecting a Fixed time acts as a marker that lets you know when the slide was created. It is obviously constant. The Update automatically selection displays a dynamic time that takes the current time from the system clock. The options are the same for the Notes and Handouts tab. (Preferably, don't show the date and time on the title slide).

Remember: Each time you open or print the presentation, PowerPoint will update the date and time. PowerPoint does not continuously update automatically, but only at the start of the slideshow.

Finally, select Apply to All and you are done.

Add the Current Time and Date According to the Language

Another useful addition is using date and time formats according to the culture of the audience you are showing the presentation to. Do this if you work in a global company or present to a specific audience. To permanently set your preferred format, implement the following settings.

First, choose File > Options > Language . The Options dialog gives you a lineup of additional languages to edit your document.

Expand the drop-down for Add additional editing languages and select the language(s) of your choice which you want to use for the date and time. Click on Add . Press OK to confirm and exit the PowerPoint file.

Reopen the presentation and position your cursor where you wish to insert the date. Take the usual route of selecting the Insert tab and then clicking on the Date and Time button.

If you are using something like a text box to insert your date and time, you will get a dialog box like this:

If you are adding the date and time as a footer, then the usual box appears. In both cases, select the date and time format, and pick the language from the drop-down. After you OK the changes, the date and time is entered in the language of the country chosen.

This article explains how to update PowerPoint and upgrade to the latest version. Instructions apply to PowerPoint 2021, 2019, 2016, 2013, and Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365 .

How Can I Update My PowerPoint for Free?

No matter which version of PowerPoint you have, Microsoft has probably released a few updates since you installed it. If you have Microsoft 365, PowerPoint should install updates automatically by default as long as you're online, but you can also manually check for updates:

Open a new slide and select the File tab.

On Mac, go to Help > Check for Updates . You can also go to the App Store and look under Updates to see if PowerPoint updates are available.

Select Account .

In older versions of PowerPoint, select Help .

Select Update Options > Update Now or Check for Updates (depending on your version).

After PowerPoint installs updates, you'll have the option to enable automatic updates (if it's not already enabled).

Mac users can download the Microsoft AutoUpdate tool to keep all their Office apps up to date. You can also refresh Microsoft apps by running Windows Update .

How Do I Download the Latest Version of PowerPoint?

If you want to upgrade to a newer version of PowerPoint, you must purchase PowerPoint from Microsoft or subscribe to Microsoft 365. You can also buy Office 2021 from Microsoft if you want Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint all in one package.

A Microsoft 365 subscription gives you access to all Office apps (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) for an annual fee. You can use the latest version of PowerPoint and try new features as they get released. The downside is you have to renew your subscription every year.

With the standalone version of PowerPoint, you'll still get occasional updates, but you may miss out on the newest features. The upside is you own the software, so you never need to renew the license. Either way, Microsoft offers free trials and discounts for students.

To see which version of PowerPoint you have, go to File > Account > About PowerPoint .

Microsoft occasionally releases patches to address bugs and make PowerPoint more reliable. These updates are usually minor, but they are still essential to keep PowerPoint functioning properly. Wherever you're having problems with PowerPoint , updating the program could resolve the issue.

Microsoft no longer releases updates for older versions of PowerPoint, so if you're still using a discontinued version like PowerPoint 2010, you should consider upgrading. More recent editions of the program, like PowerPoint 2021, feature tools and effects you won't find in outdated versions.

If you have a slide made in an older version of PowerPoint, you can open it in a newer version and take advantage of the latest tools and features.

If you want to update  link data in PowerPoint , choose the link update option if you see it when opening a PowerPoint file or open the source document to update the links. If you need to update a link source to a new file, select  File  >  Info  >  Related Documents  >  Edit Links to Files  to open the  Links  dialog box. From there, choose  Change Source  > go to the new file >  Open  >  Update Now .

To automatically update  Excel charts added to PowerPoint , go to  File  >  Info  >  Related Documents  >  Edit Links to Files  > and highlight the file you want to update automatically. At the bottom of the  Links  dialog box, check the box beside  Automatic Update .

lcviews CoronAdvice #7: Dates and timelines under LCs

The new blogpost in the segment “lcviews CoronAdvice” aims to address one of the questions frequently asked during the clovid-19 crises: Is it possible to amend the dates and timelines applicable to a documentary credit – this in order to allow for more time; thereby contemplating delays caused by the fact that many banks work based on their contingency plans and that many countries are in different phases of lockdown.

Initially, it must be mentioned that most of the challenges facing the Trade Finance industry right now relate to LCs already issued. This means that the content of the LC – as well as the UCP 600 provisions will apply. Therefore, in order to change the applicable dates and timelines, there must be made an amendment to the LC. (For new LCs the “correct” dates and timelines can simply be inserted).

According to UCP 600 article 10(a) in order to amend an LC, agreement is required by the issuing bank, the confirming bank (if any) and the beneficiary.

This means that any date or timeline in the LC or the UCP 600 can simply be changed by way of an amendment – given the relevant parties agree to it. However, it must be stressed that although the LC; by its nature is a separate transaction from the sale or other contract (UCP 600 article 4(a)); the LC is of course based upon the agreement between the buyer and the seller. It would be common for contracts to include dates and timelines (e.g. in respect of the agreed delivery date). The dates and timelines in the LC would normally be based upon – and correspond with the dates and timelines in the agreement. This means that when considering amending dates and timelines in the LC, the content of the underlying agreement must of course be considered. 

With that said, the dates and timelines potentially in scope for this are the following:

Date of expiry

UCP 600 article 10 addresses the issue of expiry; which must be read in context with how the LC is available. The outset is that an LC must state an expiry date for presentation. The expiry date is the latest date a presentation must be made – at the place where the LC is available. I.e. at the counters of the bank with which the LC is available. There are two basic scenarios:

1: Where there is a nominate bank (either specified by name – or simply “any bank”)

In such case the place for presentation is at the counters of the (or “a”) nominated bank  OR  at the counters of the issuing bank.

The date of expiry is the same regardless if the beneficiary makes the presentation to the nominated bank or to the issuing bank. 

An example:

Issuing Bank: Bank ISS in India

Nominated Bank: Bank NOM in the UK

Applicant: IMP Trader in India

Beneficiary: EXP Trader in the UK

LC Available with Bank NOM and expires 1 May 2020 in the UK.

In such case EXP Trader (in the UK) must present the documents EITHER to Bank NOM (UK) OR to Bank ISS (India). Regardless to whom the beneficiary chooses to present, the latest date a presentation must be made is 1 May 2020.

Of course, the normal course of action would be for EXP Trader to present to Bank NOM. However, if that – for some reason – is not possible EXP Trader may need to make a direct presentation to Bank ISS. In such case, there could be a need to extend the expiry date.

Also, as mentioned above there may well be other reasons to consider extending the LC expiry date. For example, that it is not possible for EXP Trader to deliver the goods as originally agreed. However, such amendment to the LC should be aligned with the existing agreement, and there may well be a need to change the contract accordingly.

2: Where the LC is only available with the issuing bank

In such case, the place for presentation is at the counters of the issuing bank (only), and the presentation must be made to the issuing bank no later than 1 May 2020. This applies even when there is an advising bank (that is not a nominated bank) involved.

Advising Bank: Bank ADV in the UK

LC Available with Bank ISS and expires 1 May 2020 in India.

In such case the presentation must be made to Bank ISS (India). The latest date a presentation must be made is 1 May 2020.

The normal course of action would be for EXP Trader to “present” the documents to Bank ADV in due time before the expiry date, allowing Bank ADV to forward the documents (on their behalf) to Bank ISS.

As indicated, the fact that there is an advising bank does not change the fact that the presentation must be presented at the issuing bank no later than 1 May 2020.  

Again, it may not possible for EXP Trader to deliver the goods as originally agreed, and therefore an amendment extending the expiry date may be considered. However, such amendment to the LC should be aligned with the existing agreement, and there may well be a need to change the agreement accordingly.

For both examples above, it is also important to consider that an extension of the expiry date could incur extra charges (e.g. issuance commission and amendment commission).

Period for presentation

UCP 600 article 14(c) addresses the period for presentation. Basically, this sub-article applies when the presentation includes a “transport document” (i.e. one of the transport documents described in UCP 600 articles 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 or 25). In such case, the presentation by (or on behalf of) the beneficiary must be made not later than 21 calendar days after the date of shipment, however, not later than the expiry date of the LC (see above). 

As can be seen, the default period for presentation according to UCP 600 article 14(c) is 21 days. This period is commonly modified (often reduced) in the LC. In such case it is the number of days mentioned in the LC that apply.

In a situation where there are delays, it may well take longer time than normally to obtain the documents needed to be presented under the LC. For that reason, there may well be a need, to have a longer period for presentation. In such case, there are 2 issues to consider

* The documents may potentially have a longer transit time between the seller and the buyer – and there is the risk that the goods arrive before the documents, and it may be challenging for the buyer to obtain release of the goods (e.g. because the bill of lading has not arrived timely).

* Normally an LC is structured so that the date of expiry, latest date of shipment and period for presentation are aligned. I.e.:

“Latest date of shipment” + “period for presentation” = “date of expiry”

This means that changing the “period for presentation” may trigger changes to “latest date of shipment” and “date of expiry”.

Latest date of shipment

As such the “latest date of shipment” is not defined in the UCP 600. There are, however, different places throughout the UCP 600 where “latest date of shipment” is mentioned, i.e.:

* Sub-article 29(c); latest date for shipment will not be extended as a result of the expiry date or the last day for presentation falls on a day when the bank to which presentation is to be made is closed.

* Sub-article 31(b); if the presentation consists of more than one set of transport documents, the latest date of shipment as evidenced on any of the sets of transport documents will be regarded as the date of shipment.

* Sub-article 38(g); the latest shipment date or given period for shipment is part of the data that may be changed when transferring the LC.

However, where it is primarily important in the context of this “lcviews CoronAdvice” is that all of the UCP 600 transport articles (i.e. articles 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 or 25) in one form or the other define “shipment”.

Most LCs issued include a latest shipment date, which is the latest date (based on the presented transport document) that goods covered by the LC must be shipped.

The goods are shipped on board 6 April 2020, which is acceptable because the LC indicates 10 April 2020 as latest date of shipment.

As the period for presentation is 21 days, the presentation must be made no later than 27 April 2020 (i.e. 6 April 2020 + 21 days).

There may well be good reasons to consider extending “latest date of shipment”, as it may not be possible for the beneficiary to ship the goods as originally agreed. However, such amendment to the LC should be aligned with the existing underlying agreement, and there may well be a need to change the agreement accordingly. Likewise, such amendment could also trigger amendments to the date of expiry (see above).

Maturity/due date

According to UCP 600 article 6(b) an LC must state whether it is available by  sight payment ,  deferred payment ,  acceptance  or  negotiation .

For the purpose of deferred payment and acceptance, it will apply that the payment is due a fixed period of time after a determinable date (e.g. shipment or sight).

For the purpose of negotiation, the LC may both be payable at sight – or at a future date (as determined by the LC).

For the scenarios where the LC is payable at a future date – that later date will be determined by the wording of the LC. ISBP 745 section B offers guidance in that respect.

Following that, payment is due 5 July 2020 (i.e. 6 April 2020 + 90 days).

It is possible to change the deferred payment period in the LC via an amendment. However, such amendment to the LC should be aligned with the underlying agreement, and there may well be a need to change the agreement accordingly. 

Timeline to determine if a presentation is complying

According to UCP 600 article 14(b) the bank (nominated bank (acting on its nomination), confirming bank and issuing bank) each have a maximum of five banking days following the day of presentation to determine if a presentation is complying. This provision is further qualified by UCP 600 article 16(d) which states that the notice of refusal (if any), must be given by telecommunication or, if that is not possible, by other expeditious means  no later than the close of the fifth banking day following the day of presentation .  

It is important to understand that this provision is relevant for the banks; I.e. the rationale for changing the “five days period” is for example that the involved banks have activated their contingency planes; and (as an example) the bank officers are working from home – and therefore need more time to examine the presentation and send the notice of refusal. In that respect it is important to understand that the “five days period” is actually a “ maximum  of five days period”. I.e. in reality the period could be shorter. In any case, if the timeline to determine if a presentation is complying is to be changed (for the specific LC) then that is possible via an amendment.

In summing up the above, it is possible to change all timelines and dates in an LC and the UCP 600 – but it must be done using the normal way of amending LCs. 

Also, it is important to bear in mind that the LC is based upon the underlying agreement between the buyer and the seller, meaning that amendments to the LC should reflect amendments to the underlying agreement.

* In order to change the applicable dates and timelines, there must be made an amendment to the LC. 

* Any date or timeline in the LC or the UCP 600 can simply be changed by way of an amendment – given the relevant parties agree to it.

* When considering amending dates and timelines in the LC, the content of the underlying agreement must of course be considered.

*  Changing a date or timeline, for example the “period for presentation” may trigger changes to other timelines or dates, for example “latest date of shipment” and “date of expiry”

Article 48: Period for Presentation is a field under the MT 700 Issue of a Documentary Credit swift message. This field specifies the period of time after the date of shipment within which the documents must be presented for payment, acceptance or negotiation.

What is Field 48: Period for Presentation?

Field 48: Period for Presentation is a field in MT 700 swift message type that is used to specify the period of time after the date of shipment within which the documents must be presented for payment, acceptance or negotiation.

This is an optional field.

According to current letter of credit rules except as provided in sub-article 29 (a), a presentation by or on behalf of the beneficiary must be made on or before the expiry date.

According to current letter of credit rules a presentation including one or more original transport documents subject to articles 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 or 25 must be made by or on behalf of the beneficiary not later than 21 calendar days after the date of shipment as described in these rules, but in any event not later than the expiry date of the credit.

MT 700 Field 48: Period for Presentation: DEFINITION This field specifies the period of time after the date of shipment within which the documents must be presented for payment, acceptance or negotiation.

USAGE RULES The period of time is expressed in number of days. The absence of this field means that the presentation period is 21 days, where applicable.

OpenAI's big event: CTO Mira Murati announces GPT-4o, which gives ChatGPT a better voice and eyes

• OpenAI's "Spring Update" revealed new updates to ChatGPT.
• OpenAI CTO Mira Murati kicked off the event.
• She announced GPT-4o, its next flagship AI model, with improved voice and vision capabilities.

OpenAI just took the wraps off a big new update to ChatGPT.

Cofounder and CEO Sam Altman had teased "new stuff" coming to ChatGPT and GPT-4 , the AI model that powers its chatbot, and told his followers to tune in Monday at 1 p.m. ET for its "Spring Update" to learn more.

Also ahead of time, Altman ruled that the event would reveal GPT-5 or a new OpenAI search engine, which is reportedly in the works. OpenAI is reportedly planning to eventually take on internet search giant Google with its own AI-powered search product.

But the big news on Monday was OpenAI's new flagship AI model, GPT-4o, which will be free to all users and "can reason across audio, vision, and text in real time." It was CTO Mira Murati who delivered the updates with no appearance on the livestream from Altman.

There were a ton of demos intended to demonstrate the real-time smarts of GPT-4o.

OpenAI researchers showed how the new ChatGPT can quickly translate speech and help with basic linear algebra using its visual capabilities. The use of the tech on school assignments has been a polarizing topic in education since it first launched.

OpenAI posted another example to X of how one can interact with the new ChatGPT bot. It resembled a video call, and it got pretty meta.

In the video, ChatGPT takes in the room around it, discerns it's a recording setup, figures it might have something to do with OpenAI since the user is wearing a hoodie, and then gets told that the announcement has to do with the AI — it is the AI. It reacts with a voice that sounds more emotive.

OpenAI also announced the desktop version of ChatGPT, and a new and improved user interface.

In addition to GPT-4o and ChatGPT, OpenAI's other products include its AI-powered image generator DALL-E , its unreleased text-to-video generator Sora , and its GPT app store.

That’s a wrap! OpenAI concludes the event without an appearance from Altman.

OpenAI says text and image input for GPT-4o-powered ChatGPT is launching today. Meanwhile, voice and video options will drop in the coming weeks, the company said.

Although Altman didn't step in front of the camera, the CEO posted videos from the audience on X.

He also teases "more stuff to share soon."

GPT-4o can also break down charts

The new AI model can interact with code bases, the OpenAI execs say. The next demo shows it analyzing a chart from some data.

It's a plot of global temperatures. GPT-4o gives some takeaways from what it sees, and CTO Mira Murati asks about the Y axis, which the AI explains.

ChatGPT reads human emotions — with a stumble

For the last live demo of the day, Zoph holds his phone up to his face and asks ChatGPT to tell him how he looks. Initially, it identifies him as a "wooden surface" — a reference to an earlier photo he had shared.

But after a second try, the model gives a better answer.

"It looks like you're feeling pretty happy and cheerful," ChatGPT says, noting the small smile on Zoph's face.

In one of the final tests, ChatGPT becomes a translator

In response to a request from an X user, Murati speaks to ChatGPT in Italian.

In turn, the bot translates her query into English for Zoph and Chen.

"Mike, she wonders if whales could talk, what would they tell us?" she said in English after hearing Murati's Italian.

It's pretty impressive.

The video demo shows how it could help with math homework, including basic linear algebra

OpenAI Research Lead Barret Zoph walks through an equation on a whiteboard (3x+1=4), and ChatGPT gives him hints as he finds the value of x — making it basically a real-time math tutor.

At the beginning, the bot jumped the gun.

"Whoops, I got too excited," it said after it tried to solve the math problem hadn't been uploaded yet.

But it then walked him through each step, recognizing his written work as he tried to solve the equation.

It was able to recognize math symbols, and even a heart.

OpenAI's first demo: Talking to GPT-4o

It's demo time!

The new bot has a voice that sounds like an American female, but no word yet if you can change it.

OpenAI Research Lead Mark Chen pulled out ChatGPT on his phone and asks for advice on giving a live presentation using Voice Mode.

"Mark, you're not a vacuum cleaner," it responds when he hyperventilates, appearing to perceive his nervousness. It then tells him to moderate his breathing.

Some big changes, you can interrupt the AI now, and there shouldn't be the usual 2 or 3-second delay with GPT-4o.

It can also detect emotion, according to OpenAI.

GPT-4o will have improved voice capabilities

Murati emphasizes the necessity of safety with the real-time voice and audio capabilities of the new GPT-4o model.

She says OpenAI is "continuing our iterative deployment to bring all the capabilities to you."

Murati says the big news is a "new flagship model" called GPT-4o.

The new model is called GPT-4o, and Murati says that OpenAI is making a "huge step forward" with ease of use with the new model.

It's free for users, and "allows us to bring GPT-4 class intelligence to our free users," Murati says.

Nicolas Cage to Star in Spider-Man Noir Live-Action Series at MGM+, Amazon Prime Video

Nicolas Cage will once again play Spider-Man Noir, but this time in a live-action series.

Cage is set to star in the live-action show “Noir,” which has been ordered to series at MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video. The series will debut domestically on MGM+’s linear channel followed by a global launch on Prime Video. Variety exclusively reported the series was in development in February 2023, though Cage was not attached at that time.

Cage previously played Spider-Man Noir in the Academy Award-winning animated film “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” This will be the first time the character has been portrayed in a live-action project. Per the official logline, “Noir” will tell the story “of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.”

The show hails from Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who will also serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. They developed the series with the “Into the Spider-Verse” team of Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, all of whom will also executive produce. Harry Bradbeer will executive produce and direct the first two episodes. Pascal executive produces via Pascal Pictures. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, with Lord and Miller currently under an overall deal at Sony.

The role will mark the first regular television role of Cage’s career. He has long been praised for his film work, having won the Academy Award for best actor for “Leaving Las Vegas” and getting a nomination in the same category for “Adaptation.” He is also known for his starring roles in films like “Moonstruck,” “Raising Arizona,” “Face/Off,” and the “National Treasure” and “Ghost Rider” films. His recent projects include “Pig,” “Dream Scenario,” and “Renfield.”

He is repped by WME, Stride Management, and Goodman Genow.

This is now the second Sony-Marvel project to be greenlit at Amazon. It was previously announced that Amazon was moving forward with the series “Silk: Spider Society” from showrunner Angela Kang, with several other shows in the works. It is unknown at this time which other Marvel characters will be featured in the other Amazon shows, though Sony currently controls over 900 such characters associated with the Spider-Man franchise. Sony has released multiple Spider-Man live-action films in the past and currently works with Marvel Studios on the rebooted film franchise starring Tom Holland via Columbia Pictures.

To date, Sony has also released the live-action films “Venom” and its sequel “Let There Be Carnage” starring Tom Hardy, as well as “Morbius” starring Jared Leto and “Madame Web” starring Dakota Johnson. A third “Venom” film is currently in the works, while Sony is also at work on film versions of characters like “Kraven the Hunter” starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

'Daredevil: Born Again' Gets 2025 Release Date as Marvel Unveils First Footage

Disney+ has set a premiere window for upcoming Marvel series, "Daredevil: Born Again."

The Disney+ original, which continues the story that began in the Marvel-Netflix show, will debut in March 2025, the streamer announced during Disney's upfront presentation on Tuesday.

"Daredevil: Born Again" will premiere alongside Disney+'s other new Marvel series "Agatha All Along," which will debut its first two episodes on Sept. 18, and "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" spin-off series "Ironheart," which will premiere sometime in 2025.

The first footage of "Daredevil: Born Again" plunged viewers into bloody action sequences, proving the Disney+ reboot will be more violent than anticipated. It also featured the return of Foggy and Karen, as well as the red "Daredevil" suit.

In "Daredevil: Born Again," Charlie Cox stars as the titular character, reprising his role as Matt Murdock from the Netflix series, which ran from 2015-18. Vincent D'Onofrio is also set to return as Wilson "Kingpin" Fisk.

The show has not had the swiftest liftoff, as "Daredevil: Born Again" underwent a creative overhaul in the fall, coinciding with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that prompted filming to come to a stop over the summer. With less than half of the 18-episode order having been completed at the time, head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman exited the series and directors who were set to helm the remaining episodes were released, prompting the show to search for new writers and directors. 

By late October, Disney+ revealed it had tapped Dario Scardapane, who has worked within the Marvel universe as an EP and writer on Netflix's "The Punisher," to become the series' new showrunner . Co-directing team Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who directed several episodes of "Loki" Season 2, were also named to lead direction on the remaining episodes. Corman and Ord will be credited as executive producers.

OpenAI debuts GPT-4o ‘omni’ model now powering ChatGPT

OpenAI announced a new flagship generative AI model on Monday that they call GPT-4o — the “o” stands for “omni,” referring to the model’s ability to handle text, speech, and video. GPT-4o is set to roll out “iteratively” across the company’s developer and consumer-facing products over the next few weeks.

OpenAI CTO Mira Murati said that GPT-4o provides “GPT-4-level” intelligence but improves on GPT-4’s capabilities across multiple modalities and media.

“GPT-4o reasons across voice, text and vision,” Murati said during a streamed presentation at OpenAI’s offices in San Francisco on Monday. “And this is incredibly important, because we’re looking at the future of interaction between ourselves and machines.”

GPT-4 Turbo , OpenAI’s previous “leading “most advanced” model, was trained on a combination of images and text and could analyze images and text to accomplish tasks like extracting text from images or even describing the content of those images. But GPT-4o adds speech to the mix.

What does this enable? A variety of things. 

GPT-4o greatly improves the experience in OpenAI’s AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT . The platform has long offered a voice mode that transcribes the chatbot’s responses using a text-to-speech model, but GPT-4o supercharges this, allowing users to interact with ChatGPT more like an assistant. 

For example, users can ask the GPT-4o-powered ChatGPT a question and interrupt ChatGPT while it’s answering. The model delivers “real-time” responsiveness, OpenAI says, and can even pick up on nuances in a user’s voice, in response generating voices in “a range of different emotive styles” (including singing). 

GPT-4o also upgrades ChatGPT’s vision capabilities. Given a photo — or a desktop screen — ChatGPT can now quickly answer related questions, from topics ranging from “What’s going on in this software code?” to “What brand of shirt is this person wearing?”

These features will evolve further in the future, Murati says. While today GPT-4o can look at a picture of a menu in a different language and translate it, in the future, the model could allow ChatGPT to, for instance, “watch” a live sports game and explain the rules to you.

“We know that these models are getting more and more complex, but we want the experience of interaction to actually become more natural, easy, and for you not to focus on the UI at all, but just focus on the collaboration with ChatGPT,” Murati said. “For the past couple of years, we’ve been very focused on improving the intelligence of these models … But this is the first time that we are really making a huge step forward when it comes to the ease of use.”

GPT-4o is more multilingual as well, OpenAI claims, with enhanced performance in around 50 languages. And in OpenAI’s API and Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service , GPT-4o is twice as fast as, half the price of and has higher rate limits than GPT-4 Turbo, the company says.

At present, voice isn’t a part of the GPT-4o API for all customers. OpenAI, citing the risk of misuse, says that it plans to first launch support for GPT-4o’s new audio capabilities to “a small group of trusted partners” in the coming weeks.

GPT-4o is available in the free tier of ChatGPT starting today and to subscribers to OpenAI’s premium ChatGPT Plus and Team plans with “5x higher” message limits. (OpenAI notes that ChatGPT will automatically switch to GPT-3.5 , an older and less capable model, when users hit the rate limit.) The improved ChatGPT voice experience underpinned by GPT-4o will arrive in alpha for Plus users in the next month or so, alongside enterprise-focused options .

In related news, OpenAI announced that it’s releasing a refreshed ChatGPT UI on the web with a new, “more conversational” home screen and message layout, and a desktop version of ChatGPT for macOS that lets users ask questions via a keyboard shortcut or take and discuss screenshots. ChatGPT Plus users will get access to the app first, starting today, and a Windows version will arrive later in the year.

Elsewhere, the GPT Store , OpenAI’s library of and creation tools for third-party chatbots built on its AI models, is now available to users of ChatGPT’s free tier. And free users can take advantage of ChatGPT features that were formerly paywalled, like a memory capability that allows ChatGPT to “remember” preferences for future interactions, upload files and photos, and search the web for answers to timely questions.

The 2024 ACM Awards Were Cute, Feel-Good, and (Mostly) Predictable

Going into the 2024 ACM Awards , you didn’t have to be clairvoyant to nail some key predictions. Host Reba McEntire was sure to be both corny and unflappable, Lainey Wilson was a lock to win Entertainer of the Year , and country interloper Post Malone, scruffy and face-tattooed, was going to charm the pants off everyone.

That all of that happened isn’t a bad thing. In fact, there was something especially comforting about the predictability of this year’s ACMs, held for a second year in a row at the Ford Center at the Star in Frisco, Texas. But even the most satisfying meal could use a bit of unexpected heat, and two moments in particular helped spice up the night.

But it was their topical update of Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” — altered to reference his arrest for throwing a chair off a Nashville bar’s roof — that brought the most “oohs,” without letting Wallen off the hook. “Last night after some alcohol/a chair right over there really started to piss me off,” Reid sang. “They told me that I threw it at somebody I never met/Then my publicist keeps telling me this ain’t over yet.”  The skit — written by McBryde — was agile and sharp and left us wishing she had her own full performance slot this year.

But citing these two high points doesn’t necessarily mean the rest of the awards show, which streamed live on Prime Video and is now available on demand, fell flat. It was all perfectly fine, with performances, speeches, and skits that toggled between cute and feel-good.

Randy Travis, who suffered a stroke in 2013 that robbed country music of one of its signature voices, has been in the news for releasing a comeback song that uses AI technology . ACM producers tapped him to present the first award of the evening, which left some wondering how that’d be possible, since Travis has aphasia, but Nineties country singer Clay Walker appeared by his side to handle the presentation. It was another feel-good moment, a bit of “country is family” messaging that helped remind viewers of Travis’s enduring appeal and his own history with the ACMs, who named him Top Male Vocalist in 1986 and 1987.

And then there was Post Malone, the rapping, rocking everyman who has replaced Kid Rock as America’s favorite ruffian. The Texas native has charisma to burn and his appearance on the ACMs added an extra edge to the show. Dressed in a Dallas Cowboys jersey and strumming an acoustic guitar adorned with a silhouette of Michael Myers’ horror mask, Posty proved his country bona fides with a twangy weeper of a ballad titled “Never Love You Again” before launching into his soon-to-be-chart-topper “I Had Some Help.” Like Wilson’s “Hang Tight Honey,” it’s irresistible and wins point for its brevity, in-and-out in three minutes.

The ACM Awards should be commended for that too. While awards shows often wear out their welcome by the end of the second hour, the show was already in the home stretch: McEntire was closing the show with her new single “I Can’t,” Wilson was basking in the glow of her crowning victory, and Dua Lipa — whom Stapleton called the “queen of feel-good music” — was somewhere radiating optimism . Later, she’d recreate Stapleton’s “clean up” photo from last year’s show. Sometimes there’s nothing more reassuring than business as usual.
