Army Automated Logistical Specialist

Supervise and perform management or warehouse functions.

At the Unit Level, 92As work as PLL/TAMMS clerks (Prescribed Load List/The Army Maintenance Management System), and are responsible for maintaining records of services performed, ordering and managing repair parts, dispatching vehicles and equipment and maintaining operator licensing records; 92A's are assigned to and supervised by the maintenance NCO and will usually be the only 92A in the company; this is a very high profile job and the Equipment Records Parts Specialist/NCO will interface with vehicle drivers, mechanics, armorer, unit supply sergeant, company Executive Officer, Maintenance Officer and Commander while conducting daily duties; a good PLL/TAMMS clerk can make or break a company's maintenance program; provides technical guidance to lower graded personnel; establishes and maintains stock records and other documents such as inventory, materiel control, accounting and supply reports; establishes and maintains automated and manual accounting records, posts receipts and turn ins and performs dues ins and dues outs accounting; corrects error and exception documents; processes inventories, surveys and warehousing documents; maintains stock locator system and administers document control procedures; retrieves and analyzes history and activity files pertinent to system rejected documents; recommend additions and deletions to authorized stockage list; maintain accounting records of property disposal activity; review requests for major and controlled items; reconcile activity records for monthly and quarterly reporting and status reviews; processes data inquiry and manager referred listings and cards; manages controlled, critical and reserve stocks and operational readiness floats; perform financial management functions; process output from catalog inquiry program, document modifiers and special cancellation requests; there is a wide variety of Defense Reutilization Marketing Service (DRMS) positions with many differences in responsibilities; these assignments may vary from staff level assignments that require interacting predominantly with civil servant GS/WG employees and senior officers on a daily basis to positions within a DRMS facility; positions within a DRMS facility may have responsibility for overseeing operations, establishing operations and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures; must provide staff advice and liaison assistance to those agencies with which there is interaction; Soldiers that are screened and selected for these assignments are usually of the highest caliber and have proven themselves in previous assignments; soldiers must possess a high level of technical knowledge within their MOS as well as the analytical skills necessary to solve problems and work on projects that are outside of their specialization; these jobs are usually high visibility and offer unique challenges.

Serve as principal NCO at staff level for supply and services operations at Battalion or higher levels; supervises development and preparation of operations information, plans, maps, sketches, overlays and related data to employment supply and service organizations; analyzes reports on supply and service support operations; a Materiel Management NCO is not a specific position but rather a broad scope of possible positions; as a Materiel Management NCO it is possible to work in a warehouse, depot, Combat Service Support Automation Management Office (CSSAMO), Support Operations (SPO) and various other assignments; a Materiel Management NCO usually performs duties directly related to their MOS; however, duties such as working in a CSSAMO are unique and challenging.

Supervises soldiers engaged in supply, services, materiel management and logistics operations; perform duties of MOS 92A and 92Y at skill level 5; serves as principal NCO of supply and services operations; supervises operation of organizations performing supply and related service operations such as transportation, property disposal and commissary operations; supervises management of materiel support functions in stock control and accounting, procurement, inventory control and item financial management; supervises development and preparation of operations information, plans, maps sketches, overlays and related data to employ supply and service organizations; contributes to staff development and operations of supply support data systems, equipment review, salvage and repair parts supply procedures, and maintenance support systems; supervises preparation of orders, operating instructions, reports and related technical materials; performs liaison between staff and supported soldiers to improve effectiveness of support activities.

Army Automated Logistical Specialist (MOS 92A): Career Details

An Army Automated Logistical Specialist (MOS 92A) supervise and perform warehouse functions.

Automated Logistical Specialists maintain equipment records, parts, and inventories.

Specialists in this Army MOS control the stock that keeps operations going.

Qualifications and Training

To enter into this MOS soldiers must first take the ASVAB test at MEPS and score a minimum of 90 on the Clerical (CL) portion.

Training requires 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and 12 weeks of Advanced Individual Training .

Advanced Individual Training includes classroom and field training with practice in handling and storing stock.

The 92A Advanced Individual Training course graduates about 3,200 soldiers annually and focuses on logistical software systems and manual stock control.

• Interest in mathematics, bookkeeping, accounting, typing and business administration
• Ability to perform physical work

What Does an Army Automated Logistical Specialist Do?

Whenever a unit or individual needs a specific part or piece of equipment, they will go to the Automated Logistical Specialist to get it.

These soldiers follow procedures to ship, receive, store and issue stock.

This position contains both computer work and manual labor.

Specialists physically unload and store supplies in addition to collecting and analyzing shipping data.

Record Keeping

Automated Logistical Specialist will ensure that the shipments are correct and that all data is logged correctly.

When receiving a shipment or sending one out, they will review contracts, purchase requests and shipping documents to verify the actual quantities received match.

They will perform automated recording of stock.

Specialists are responsible for establishing and maintaining various documents, reports, and regulation forms.

Some examples of these documents or reports include stock records, inventory, material control, supply reports, and accounting.

Soldiers in this MOS are required to operate the Global Combat Support System-Army (GCSS-Army).

This logistics system is used to track supplies, organizational equipment, and spare parts.

The system not only tracks inventory but unit maintenance and cost/financial transactions.

Managing Maintenance

Part of the Automated Logistical Specialist’s duties is to constantly work toward efficiency improvements.

Specialists aim to simplify and standardize the collection/use of maintenance data.

The Specialist works toward improved maintenance management.

They will attempt to raise the quality and accuracy of performance, cost, and parts.

The soldiers in this MOS manage all maintenance records and reports related to equipment operation and maintenance.

The Specialist will follow warehouse procedures and ensure that other personnel are following the correct procedures as well.

Stock Management

Automated Logistical Specialists use warehouse equipment, such as forklifts, to load and unload shipments.

After receiving a shipment, the Specialist will unload, unpack, count, segregate, palletize, and then store incoming supplies and equipment.

They will construct shelving, bins, or any other type of storage aid per the needs of the warehouse they are working in.

The Specialist is in charge of making sure supplies and equipment are stored correctly for each type of product.

Some types of supplies that they work with include repair parts, construction materials, tanks, vehicles, and related equipment.

This includes knowing proper handling procedures.

The specialist will move, store and maintain ammunition.

They will also handle medical and food supplies.

Some medical and food supplies must be stored at different temperatures or have other specific handling/storing specifications, and the specialist will follow the correct procedures to accomplish proper transport and storage.

Other Job Duties

An Automated Logistical Specialist may be required to drive a vehicle to deliver supplies.

Soldiers in this MOS will work with different individuals on a daily basis.

These specialists can expect to start at around $23,000 a year in base pay, plus any additional qualifying recruiting bonuses, special pay, or benefits.

Automated Logistical Specialist (MOS 92A) Description / Major Duties:

The automated logistical specialist supervises and performs management or stock record/warehouse functions pertaining to ceipt, storage, distribution and issue and maintains equipment records and parts.

Duties for MOS 92A at each skill level are:

MOSC 92A1O . Establishes and maintains stock records and other documents such as inventory, materiel control, accounting and supply reports. Establishes and maintains automated and manual accounting records, posts receipts and turn ins and performs dues ins and dues outs accounting. Correct error and exception documents. Reviews and verifies quantities received against bills of lading, contracts, purchase requests and shipping documents. Supervises open and covered storage, receiving, classification, issue materiels handling, supply locator systems, facility safety and supply security operations. Supervise management of materiel support functions in stock control and accounting, procurement, inventory control and item financial management. MOS Megathread Series -- CMF 92 -- Logistics Corps, Quartermaster Corps Branch -- 92A, 92D, 920A, 920B, 921A, 922A, 923A, 92A, 92F, 92G, 92L, 92M, 92R, 92W, 92Y, 92Z

As a follow-up based on our EOY Census and previous solicited comments, we're going to try running an MOS Discussion/Megathread Series, very similar to how we did the Duty Station Series . I'd also, again, like to thank everyone who participated.

The MOS Discussion Threads are meant to be enduring threads where individuals with experience or insight in to particular CMFs or MOSes can leave/give advice and tips. If you have any MOS resources, schools, etc, this would be a great place to share them.

The hope is that these individual threads can serve as 'megathreads' on the posts in question, and we can get advice from experienced persons. Threads on reddit are not archived - and can continue to be commented in - until 6 months. Each week I will keep the full listing/links to all previous threads in a mega-list below, for ease of reference. At the end of the series I will go back and ensure they all have completely navigable links

If you have specific questions about these MOSes, please feel free to ask here, but know that we are not forcing or re-directing all questions to these threads -- you can, and are encouraged, to still use the WQT. This is not to be an 'AMA', although if people would like to offer themselves up to answer questions, that would be great . A big "Thank You" to everyone who is willing to answer questions about the MOSes in question, but the immediate preference would be for informational posts. These are meant to be enduring sources of information.

I currently expect to lump Os and Ws in to the CMF discussions. Going forward if it would be better to split them (and I will most likely chop up the Medical Series), please voice that opinion. If there are many MOSes, but extremely tiny/small density (like much of the 12 Series), I'm going to keep it as one. Yes, I'm also going to keep codes like for Senior Sergeant for the MOS (ie the Zulus).
