How To Embed Facebook Reviews

How to Embed Facebook Reviews on Your Website: A Step-by-Step Guide

Getting reviews for your business is a great way to show potential customers what it’s like to work with you. Facebook is one of the biggest platforms on the internet, so gaining reviews on your Facebook Business Page can be extremely helpful.

It usually takes a little work to get reviews. It’s easy to win Facebook reviews if you simply ask a client to leave you one. You can use a reputation management tool such as Broadly, which makes sending these requests to customers easier. Broadly also has a great program that helps promote your Facebook reviews.

To help you get even more eyes on those reviews, we wanted to show you a savvy way to get the most out of your Facebook review efforts. Since not everyone sees your Facebook Business Page , we’ll show you, step-by-step, how to embed Facebook reviews that you already have on your company’s website. This way, you don’t have to ask for reviews twice, and you can spend more time improving your business!

Free Guide: 10 Tips To Get More Customers From Facebook

What does it mean to ‘embed’ a review.

Embedding a review is showing the review directly on your site rather than linking to it, so potential customers can see it without having to navigate to another page. You can choose a current, positive review to display on your website for people to see when they search for your business. Showing a Facebook review on your website acts as a customer testimonial and can help build trust with potential customers .

How to Embed Facebook Reviews on Your Website

Below is a complete guide on embedding your Facebook page reviews on your website.

  • Go to the Facebook reviews section of your Facebook account
  • Find a review you want to embed on your website
  • Click the “Embed” option
  • Copy the embed code that pops up
  • Paste the embed code into the backend of your website
  • Get more Facebook reviews
  • Manage your online reviews

Step 1: Go to the Facebook reviews section on your Facebook page

The first thing you’ll want to do is find the reviews section on your Facebook Business Page . Go to your page as you usually would when posting something, and to the left of the publishing box, you’ll see a sidebar menu.

This menu should be below your Page’s profile picture. Depending on how you have your homepage setup, the location of the “Reviews” tab may be slightly different than our example, but it should be in the general area.

Facebook Reviews Section For Embed

Step 2: Find a good review and click the three dots in the upper-righthand corner

Once you click on the “Reviews” tab, your reviews should appear. There are tabs that categorize them: “Most Helpful,” Most Recent” and “ Star Rating .”

If no one has voted any of your reviews as helpful, you probably won’t see any reviews come up at first. Try clicking the “Most Recent” or “ Star Rating ” tabs to find your reviews. Once you see the list, find the review(s) you would like to showcase on your website. These would be your most impressive reviews.

Once you pick one, you will see three dots in the top right corner of the box. Click those.

3 Dots To Find Embed Section on Facebook

Step 3: Click the “Embed” option

Once you click the three dots, a menu will drop down with the option labeled “Embed.” If you cannot see it in the drop-down menu , try clicking “More Options,” and embed should become an option. Select the Facebook embed button.

Select the Facebook Embed Button

Step 4: Copy the embed code

  • After you click the “Embed” button, a window should pop up . In this window, you receive the embed code . The embed code is what you need to copy these reviews onto your website.
  • Highlight the entire code simply by clicking it once, then right-click and choose “Copy” to Copy it. You can also use keyboard shortcuts to Copy the code — it’s Command+C for Mac computers and CTRL+C for PCs.
  • Select Facebook Review Embed Code

Select Facebook Review Embed Code

Make sure you don’t copy anything else during this process, or you will lose your embed code and have to do it all over again!

Step 5: Paste the embed code on the backend of your website

How you update your website depends on the website builder you use. For WordPress , you can add widgets that support code. Wherever you add code to the backend of your website is where you will want to paste your embed code . You may want to create a whole new page to show off your Facebook reviews, or maybe you just sprinkle them in on the sidebars .

Play around with the design to see where your Facebook reviews pop on your website!

Step 6: Get more Facebook reviews

Embedding your Facebook reviews on your website helps you market yourself to a larger customer base while taking less time. As long as you embed your Facebook reviews on your website and share them elsewhere, there’s less need to garner additional reviews using other platforms, such as Google reviews or Yelp . You can keep it much simpler if you just choose one review platform and make those reviews readily visible just about anywhere your company appears online.

So, if you choose to stick primarily to Facebook reviews, you may want to know how you can keep getting more great reviews. Below are some of our favorite methods of gathering Facebook reviews:

  • Add a link to your email signature
  • Promote your existing Facebook reviews
  • Send out a personalized “ask” email
  • Give incentives to customers (get 10% off your next visit if you review us on Facebook!)
  • Include a call-to-action (CTA) in blog posts/marketing materials.

Of course, there may come a time when a fake or spammy review hits your Facebook Page . Don’t fret — you can remove Facebook reviews as well. There are a lot of reasons to start gaining Facebook reviews . Not only will they help increase client trust, but they will also help you win more customers.

People would much rather choose a company with 10 reviews than a company with none. Learning how to embed them on your website is just one way to get the most out of those reviews when you earn them. Work smarter, not harder!

Step 7: Manage your online reviews

Using a reputation management tool like Broadly allows you to check and respond to customers’ feedback from several platforms all in one place. Also, the Broadly platform helps automate asking and promoting customers’ positive reviews to platforms such as Google reviews , Yelp , Nextdoor and Tripadvisor .

Let’s get started!

Why Embed Facebook Reviews on a Website?

Did you know that 93% of customers check reviews before buying something online?

As you can see, positive reviews play a huge role in converting people into customers. And if you embed positive reviews of your products, they convince website visitors to buy from you.

While there are lots of review platforms like Yelp and Google reviews, Facebook is still the biggest social platform out there and a fantastic source for customer reviews.

example facebook reviews

If you want to convert more people into customers and create a better online reputation, you should add Facebook reviews to your website.

Plus, showing customer feedback can encourage your website visitors to leave more Facebook reviews. So, you can get more user-generated content and boost trust in your visitors with ease.

It’s a great advantage you get with WordPress when compared to other website builders like Wix, Shopify, or Squarespace.

At the same time, you can boost your site’s user experience, get new followers, and grow your Facebook presence.

With that, let’s look at the different ways you can embed Facebook reviews on your site.

Want to display Facebook reviews in WordPress? Choose from the 2 options below:

  • Manual embed: Spend lots of time copying and pasting HTML embed codes for all Facebook reviews
  • Automatic embed: Use a trusted reviews aggregator plugin to display all your customer reviews automatically

If you go with the manual way, it can take a lot of time and effort to link your Facebook reviews to WordPress. After all, you’ll have to generate the code, tweak it, and then display it on your website.

The solution?

Use a beginner-friendly WordPress plugin like Smash Balloon’s Reviews Feed Pro so you can display reviews on your website easily.

How to embed Facebook Reviews on any website

Are you looking to embed Facebook Reviews  on your website?

Here we will give you a three-step guide on how to do that. You can add Facebook Page Reviews feed to any digital service, and we've included instructions for the most common website builders:

  • Squarespace

If you are using any other website builder , you can find the instructions below .

Why do brands show Facebook Reviews on websites?

We trust social proof  and user reviews because those show authentic testimonials of how others have already experienced the product and service. When searching for something online, the reviews are often a key factor in decision making – especially if we are not familiar with the seller yet. After all, how do we know if we can trust an online shop without reviews?

Facebook Page Reviews and Recommendations provide one of the easiest ways of gathering and showing social proof . Setting up the feature doesn’t require anything special from the FB Page owner - and positive reviews encourage Facebook users to visit your website. According to research, 80% of people trust user reviews as much as personal recommendations from family and friends.

How to see my Facebook Page Reviews?

On your Facebook Page, you can enable Reviews as one of the tabs, and your fans and visitors can post their recommendations in a few clicks. To see your Facebook Page Reviews, click the 'Reviews' tab on your Facebook Page navigation. If you can’t find the link in the navigation, check the FB Page settings to make sure the tab hasn’t been disabled.

Recently, Facebook has removed the star rating from individual reviews, but you can still see if the person recommends your service (or doesn’t) .

How to display Facebook Reviews and Recommendations on any website?

Embedding Facebook Reviews on any website is straightforward and only takes a couple of minutes. Here’s a 3-step guide:

  • Create a Facebook Reviews feed

Why you need to embed Facebook Reviews to your website page

Customer reviews are an important commercial factor, along with the company section, shipping and payment terms, employee page, and other features. The testimonials page on the site affects not only the ranking in Google, but also the choice of users. A positive assessment of the company’s activities increases the trust of site visitors and, as a result, the conversion from visitors to customers.

That’s why let’s discover some interesting facts about reviews you might find useful.

94% of users confirm bad reviews convinced them not to buy
  • Among customers who read reviews on website pages, 97% read responses to negative reviews.
  • Research shows that negative reviews add a company 10% more for each new hire .

While a few negative reviews are important to a business because they give the user a sense of reality and the truth of the information, overall negative reviews can be devastating to your business. This can cost you tens of thousands of dollars or even more in income and other expenses.

A 1 star rating upgrade can result in a 5% to 9% increase in revenue
  • One positive business review can improve conversions by 10%.
  • A hundred positive reviews can increase conversions by 37%.
  • Customers will spend 31% more on companies with great reviews.
  • 92% of B2B buyers will make a purchase decision after reading a trusting review.

As you can see, the value of positive reviews is such that they can be amazing when it comes to conversions – and why not? The more reviews about the company in a positive way, the more people will trust it and be willing to pay for its products.

82% of consumers look for negative reviews specifically
  • More than half (57%) of customers would not use a business if its consumer rating is below 4 out of 5 stars.
  • One negative consumer review of a business is enough for 35% of people to decide not to buy from that company.
  • According to online review statistics, you need about 40 positive reviews to cancel out the damage of one negative one.
  • More than four negative reviews can reduce a company’s sales by 70%.
  • Negative reviews affect the purchase decision of 86% of consumers.

As you can see, negative reviews are not necessarily bad for your business. There is such a thing as too good to be true. Of course, no business owner likes negative reviews, but the lack of them on a website page makes all other reviews look paid or fake. In addition, you can use feedback from dissatisfied customers to improve your services.

89% of consumers read company responses.
  • Companies that respond to online reviews on their website pages increase 30% of customers’ trust in their brand.
  • 53% of customers believe that a company should respond to a negative review within a week.
  • Companies that respond to their customers’ inquiries increase their business reviews by 12%. Moreover, their stars in Google reviews have risen by 0.12.
  • When businesses email their customers a direct link to submit a review, their Google rankings improve.

It’s clear as day that online reviews matter . However, don’t leave clients hanging. Interact with them. Show that you care.

How to get more customer reviews on Facebook?

Only 12% of users leave feedback for their purchases, the rest of the buyers do this only if they are very satisfied or very unhappy with the product. If the company wants to get more reviews and then add them to their website, you need to gently push users to do so. And below we’ll see the tools that can help you in collecting customer feedback.

  • Post-purchase call – give the customer a couple of days to get acquainted with the product after the purchase or to add an opinion about the experience gained after purchasing the service. Then remind him about it. A short call will not annoy the client, but it will give you a review with fresh impressions. The call can be transcribed and added to the customer thanks section.
  • Questionnaire in the store – the client will not have enough time for a detailed answer being in the store, so it is better to prepare the questionnaire in the form of a survey with a scale and embed it to your website. Prepare a few questions, set a range for the score, and embed the forms at the checkout.
  • QR code in the store – for customers who are not comfortable filling out the questionnaire, you can add a QR code that can be used to complete an electronic survey from a mobile phone. A QR code can lead both to a separate survey, and to the reviews section on a website page or to a map service.
  • Personal surveys and interviews – the method is more suitable for B2B business, when buyers or partners visit the company’s office for meetings. Prepare a detailed list of questions and arrange a time with the buyer – questions can be submitted in the form of a questionnaire for written answers or asked in an interview.
  • Post-purchase email – If a customer specifies email as their preferred method of communication, instead of calling, send them an email a few days after the purchase or service has been received and offer to share their opinion about the product.
  • Newsletter and bonuses – this method is suitable for regular customers who often use the company’s services. Invite buyers to evaluate the quality of goods, services, delivery and other factors by sending a survey that you can embed to the mailing list. Customers who complete the survey can be given a bonus, such as a gift, discount, or certificate.
  • Social Media Poll – a short, multiple choice survey is great for Facebook and won’t take up much of the user’s time. In addition, on social networks, users often leave comments under posts themselves – to push them to this, ask a question or offer to share an opinion at the end of the post.
  • Contests on Facebook – contests stimulate the activity of buyers. Offer your audience to make a photo or video review, write a review or tell about the experience of using the purchase and post it on the social network with the contest hashtag. Don’t forget about prizes for participants or winners.

5 tips on how to work with reviews and collect them correctly

Respond to reviews.

Replies to reviews on Facebook encourage users to keep leaving comments. For example, a response to a negative review shows that the company is not indifferent to customers, trying to solve the problem of the client and smooth out dissatisfaction. Responses to positive reviews are no less important – the author wanted to share a positive experience, took the time and tried on the review, he will be pleased that the brand appreciated his work and opinion.

Prepare the structure of the client's response.

If you don’t want the humble “Thanks everyone, it’s all good” feedback, give the user hints. For example, add some fields and name them, for instance “What did you like about the product”, “Why did you buy it”, “Will you buy it again”, and so on. It will be easier for the buyer to navigate, and you will receive a detailed review. In surveys, think over the answer options that you can aa so that each client can easily choose the right option.

Don't be intrusive

No need to attack the client with calls and letters that you add to your newsletter plan every week, contact the buyer only at key moments. For example, in three days after the purchase, you can find out their first impression, after a month you can ask to add their thoughts about usage experience, and after three months of regular purchases you can embed a survey into your newsletter and ask them how they like your company’s work.

Consider a bonus system

Bonuses smooth out the negative well and stimulate activity in contests, but you need to think over the incentive system so as not to go into the red. Decide which bonuses customers with negative reviews will receive as an apology, which rewards will be given to winners and participants in contests, and what can be offered to users for completing surveys embedded to your website.

Use an individual approach

Don’t respond to every review with a pre-made template. Prepare a “skeleton” for different types of reviews, but supplement the comment with individual details based on the review itself. Clients will be pleased to receive a “live” response, rather than a template response.

Ratings and reviews can be an effective SEO tool when incorporated into popular search engines, such as seller ratings. Don’t be afraid of negative reviews. They can and should be used.

It is important to work with reviews on Facebook on a regular basis. In large companies, entire departments of employees are organized who search, respond and add reviews to the site. There are also alternatives – review aggregation services that allow you to save on the salaries of content managers.

Ratings and reviews on your website are great value for your company. They increase consumer confidence in the brand and the visibility of its products on the Internet, and consequently increase sales day by day.

This feature draws visitors into an interactive experience, encouraging them to engage with the reviews and thus boosting their connection with your brand.

Matching the business’s brand image

Customizing reviews isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about reinforcing your brand image. By tailoring the display of reviews to match your branding, you create a unified and professional appearance. This harmony enhances credibility and makes the reviews more appealing to visitors, reflecting a consistent and trustworthy brand identity.

These options empower you to make the review section a vibrant part of your website, reflecting your brand, engaging visitors, and elevating the overall user experience, to increase customer satisfaction.

Embedding Facebook reviews across different CMS platforms

Facebook reviews can be embedded across different CMS platforms, including Drupal , Joomla , and others. Here’s a general guide on how to embed Facebook reviews on any website:

  • Head to the reviews section of your business’s Facebook page reviews section. Alternatively, as Facebook is now part of the Meta Suite , you can also go to Meta Business Suite > Inbox > Facebook Comments.

Login to your Facebook business page

Login to your Facebook business page

Go to your messaging inbox

Go to your messaging inbox

  • Find the review that you wish to embed, and click the three dots in the upper right-hand corner.

Embed reviews from your Facebook page

Embed reviews from your Facebook page

  • Select ‘Embed’ . Copy the code and click ‘Show Preview’ to see how it will look on your website.
  • Go to your website’s HTML or CMS (Drupal, Joomla, WordPress) editor and paste the code into your CMS post editor while in HTML mode.

This method, however, does come with a few drawbacks:

  • It requires manual implementation for each review, which can be time-consuming.
  • It doesn’t automatically sync with your website, meaning new reviews won’t appear on your website unless you manually embed them.

This is where a Facebook review plugin like WP Review Slider Pro can come in handy, as it automates this process and offers additional features to enhance the display of your reviews.

Tips for getting more Facebook reviews

More reviews not only enhance your online reputation but boost customer trust. But how can you encourage more customers to leave their thoughts? Here’s how:

  • Ask customers for reviews via email : An effective strategy to garner more reviews is to ask customers via email, especially after providing excellent customer service. A friendly, personalized email expressing gratitude and asking for feedback on Facebook can show customers that their opinions matter, leading to more positive engagement.
  • Respond to existing reviews: By acknowledging positive reviews with thanks and addressing negative ones with empathy and commitment to improve, businesses can build a positive community atmosphere that encourages more people to leave their thoughts.
  • Run a campaign or contest: Announcing a contest where leaving a review could lead to a discount or freebie can lead to a surge in reviews, thus fostering a more vibrant online presence.

How WP Review Slider Pro helps maintain a positive brand reputation

WP Review Slider Pro adds an additional layer of reputation management, catching negative reviews before they make it to social media.

This gives you a chance to address negative reviews privately. If a customer leaves a review below a certain rating, they are prompted to provide more information, allowing you to reach out and address their concerns before it’s posted publicly.

By catching negative feedback early, you can handle it in a way that does not harm your public image. This personal touch can even turn a negative experience into a positive one, preserving your reputation.

This feature can be particularly beneficial for businesses that have received negative reviews and are looking to demonstrate their commitment to customer satisfaction for managing their online reputation effectively.

Mastering facebook reviews: the complete 2024 guide.

Activate the Facebook Reviews tab on your Facebook business Page and grow with customer feedback.

Epic guide to Facebook Reviews

Facebook reviews, or recommendations, are a vital part of a business’s online reputation.

After all, they provide the best type of social proof you can get, increase the visibility of your business, and help you convert visitors into dedicated customers.

Moreover, the impact customer reviews have on your business cannot be underestimated. The vast majority of U.S. adults (82%) say they check online reviews before a purchase. Also, over 18% of U.S. adults say they had bought something through Facebook.

So keep on reading as we tell you all about Facebook reviews, how to add them to your page, and how they help your business succeed in today’s day and age.

About Facebook recommendations former Facebook reviews

Facebook Recommendations are a feature on Facebook that allows users to provide feedback about their experiences with businesses, services, or products.

Unlike traditional star-rated reviews, Recommendations enable users to simply recommend or not recommend a business to their friends and network. These Recommendations can include written feedback, photos, and tags, creating a more comprehensive and social form of review. This feature integrates directly into a business’s Facebook Page, making it easier for potential customers to see authentic opinions and experiences shared by real users.

Note: Facebook’s ‘Recommendations’ feature is the evolution of the older ‘Reviews’ system, and you can still find it under the ‘Reviews’ tab of Facebook pages. However, instead of using the old star rating system, buyers recommend (or not) a product or a business, share a written opinion, and leave tags and images (should they choose to).

Note: Once you activate the ‘Reviews’ tab and start getting feedback, you won’t be able to delete Facebook reviews yourself. You will have to flag innacurate reviews and Facebook’s team will deal with them if they violate Facebook’s Community Standards.

How to get your Facebook Reviews page link?

Google My Business has made getting a  Google review link  easy, but getting a Facebook review link will be a bit different. No worries, we’ll show you two easy ways to do it!

Option 1: Copy the reviews page URL

To get your Facebook Reviews link, you have to follow two simple steps:

  • Log in to your Facebook page —start by logging into your Facebook account and navigating to your official business page;
  • Add ‘/review’ to your page URL —find the browser address bar, click at the end of it, and then simply type ‘/review’ after your page URL;
  • Copy the URL to share it —simply copy the entire string you see in the address bar for future use. For instance, https://www.facebook.com/embedreviews/reviews is EmbedSocial’s Facebook Reviews page link – as shown below:

facebook reviews url

Congratulations, you have it!

Now, share the Reviews link of your Facebook business page across the internet, such as on your website, in emails, in your newsletters, or on your social media platforms, i.e., anywhere you see a chance to invite your customers to review you.

Note: When sending the link, also add a brief explanation on  how your customers can leave you a Facebook review for your product and services.

Option 2: Build your own direct Facebook review link

What if your customers are not logged into their personal or business accounts? If you send them the above link, they’ll be asked to log into Facebook first, which may discourage them from reviewing your business. No worries, here’s a solution to that:

  • Utilize the Facebook login URL ->  www.facebook.com/login/
  • Put a redirect to your reviews page by adding “next” ->  www.facebook.com/login/?next=
  • Convert your page URL into the corresponding equivalent in HTML and add it after the “next” component ->  https://www.facebook.com/login/?next=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fembedreviews%2Freviews%2F

As you can see, it’s not complicated at all! Just replace the colon (:) with %3A and the slash (/) with %2F. That way, whenever the customer logs in to their account, they’ll be redirected to your reviews page. Works like a charm every time!

How can your customers leave you Facebook reviews?

Since the introduction of the ‘Recommendations’ review system, your clients will no longer have to select a number of stars to describe your products and/or services. They only have to navigate to your page’s ‘Reviews’ tab or follow the above ‘Reviews’ link.

write facebook review

Once there, they only have to tap ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ under the ‘Do you recommend [your business name]’ message. Then, the ‘Recommendation’ box will open and prompt users to share their thoughts about your business. They’ll have to write at least 25 characters.

As users leave you new reviews, they will start appearing at the top of the ‘Reviews’ tab feed of your Facebook business page.

How to respond to your Facebook reviews?

You must respond to all (or most of) your Facebook reviews, both positive and negative. That’s the best way to maintain a strong online presence and build trust with your customers.

To respond to Facebook reviews, you will typically get a notification on Facebook or via email , and when you click on it, it will take you directly to that review, so you can check out the review, and provide your reply—it’s as easy as writing a comment on a Facebook post.

Here are some practical  review reply templates  for review responses:

Positive reviews response example:

Hello [Reviewer’s Name], Thank you so much for your kind review! We’re thrilled to hear that you had a great customer experience with our [product/service]. Our team works hard to provide excellent customer service, and we’re glad to see that it’s making a difference. We appreciate your support and would love for you to share your experience with your friends and family. If you have any other feedback or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We look forward to serving you again soon! Warm regards, [Your Name] [Business Name]

Negative reviews response example

Hello [Reviewer’s Name], We apologize for the less than satisfactory experience you had with our [product/service]. It’s essential for us to maintain high standards, and we’re sorry that we did not meet your expectations this time. We’d like to learn more about your experience and find a way to make things right. Please reach out to us at [contact information] or send us a private message so we can discuss this further and find a suitable resolution. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused, and we appreciate your feedback as it helps us improve and provide better service in the future. Sincerely, [Your Name] [Business Name]

How to report a Facebook review?

Sometimes you may receive fake negative reviews that affect your online reputation. Naturally, you have to deal with negative reviews as soon as possible. But, since you cannot outright delete them, you’ll have to report them for violating Facebook’s Community Standards :

  • Find the negative review in your ‘Reviews’ tab ;

report facebook review

  • Choose to receive notifications about the report and click ‘Submit’ ;

Here’s a brief video covering the entire process:

How to get new reviews for your Facebook business pages?

The fun part starts here: finding cool new ways to motivate your customers to leave you positive Facebook recommendations.

These are some of the strategies you can try out include:

  • Adding a physical ‘Review’ sign at your place of business— you can edit and place the official ‘ Facebook Review Us ‘ stickers anywhere from your counter to your tables, walls, shopping windows, or any other prominent sections of your premises;
  • Use the Facebook Wi-Fi feature— set up Facebook Wi-Fi in your business location to get more customer reviews, which will allow your visitors to hook up to your guest Wi-Fi for free once they check in to your Facebook business page and leave you a review;
  • Embed a digital ‘Review us on Facebook’ button— you can place this button anywhere from your homepage to your blog and social media sites;
  • Create a Facebook contest —you can always stage a discount contest for your customers, who will be able to participate if they leave you a Facebook review;
  • Asking your regular customers— you can always ask for a review outright, especially your regular visitors, which will be included to help you out. You can either ask them in person or send them an email such as this one, along with the promise of a discount:
“Thanks for stopping by again [customer name]”.  “Do you use Facebook? The reason I ask is that we have a Facebook Reviews section that we use to collect our customer’s comments. Would you be interested in posting one?”   Here is our link (link to Facebook reviews section) Thank you so much. [Your Name] [Your Company Name]

What are the benefits of Facebook reviews?

Every serious business must collect Facebook reviews/recommendations nowadays as they come with several advantages, including but not limited to the following:

1. They increase your organic reach

Positive reviews and recommendations can help your business gain more visibility on Facebook, as they may appear in the Facebook Feeds of the reviewer’s friends or when someone asks for recommendations. This increased exposure can attract more potential customers.

How? When a customer recommends your bakery on Facebook, their friends might see the recommendation in their Feed, thus sparking interest in your products and driving more foot traffic to your bakery.

2. They boost your brand credibility

A collection of positive reviews and recommendations serves as  social proof , demonstrating that your business is reliable, trustworthy, and offers great experiences, which can influence potential customers to choose your products or services over your competitors.

How? A new user visiting your digital marketing agency’s Facebook page sees numerous glowing reviews from satisfied clients. This positive feedback instills confidence in the user, making them more likely to engage with your agency.

3. They improve your search engine ranking

Positive reviews can improve your search engine ranking, as search engines also consider  user-generated content about a certain business in their ranking algorithms.

How? Your restaurant has numerous positive reviews on Facebook. When someone searches for restaurants in your area, your restaurant is more likely to appear higher in the search results due to the positive feedback.

4. They help you gain your visitors’ trust

When potential customers see a high volume of positive reviews, they are more likely to trust your business and feel confident in their decision to engage with your products or services.

How? A potential client is considering hiring your home cleaning service. Upon seeing the numerous positive reviews on your Facebook page, they feel reassured that your service is reliable and trustworthy, making them more likely to hire you.

Hopefully, our guide on Facebook business reviews gives you specific directions on improving your  online reputation management  and leveling up your digital marketing strategy.

Remember, getting more reviews on Facebook (and other social media sites) can take a little effort, but it’s an investment that pays off in the long run. We promise!

FAQs about Facebook reviews

Yes, Facebook reviews still exist, but they have evolved into a new format called ‘ Facebook Recommendations ‘, which no longer uses the previous star-based system. Users now recommend (or not) a certain business or product and leave a text-based review. They also have the option to add various tags and relevant images. This new format allows for more context and encourages users to provide more valuable feedback for potential customers.

To see the reviews of your or other businesses, you will have to navigate to the official page and click on the ‘Reviews’ tab underneath the profile image. If the tab is not there, the ‘Reviews’ feature has to be activated through the page’s ‘Privacy’ section.

No, Facebook reviews are not private. When a user leaves a review on a business Page, it is publicly visible to anyone visiting said Page. This allows potential customers to read about the experiences of others, which can influence their decision to engage with the business.

As a business owner, you cannot directly delete Facebook Reviews left by users. However, you can report a review if it violates Facebook’s Community Standards or contains spam. Then, if Facebook determines the review is inappropriate, they may remove it. Alternatively, you can disable the ‘Reviews’ tab on your business Page, which will hide all reviews from your Page, but this will make it harder for potential customers to learn more about your business.

While you cannot directly remove a bad review on Facebook, you can take steps to address it. First, respond to the review professionally and empathetically, offering to address the issue and rectify the situation. If that doesn’t work and you believe the review is from a fake account, spam, or violates Facebook’s Community Standards, you can report it to Facebook for review.

How to Display Facebook Reviews on Your WordPress Site

Online reviews are one of the most powerful signals of the trustworthiness of your business or service. And that’s true whether your business is online-only or a traditional brick-and-mortar storefront. That’s why many will add Facebook reviews to their WordPress websites.

In fact, local consumer review surveys show that 86% of consumers read reviews for local businesses , and a whopping 91% of 18-34-year-olds trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations.

If you have put time and effort into getting reviews for your business on Facebook, you may be happy to learn that you can display those reviews on your WordPress website.

In this tutorial we’re going to show you how to incorporate your Facebook reviews feed into WordPress in a few easy steps using the WP Review Slider plugin .

Get Customers to Write Facebook Reviews

Before we get into the tutorial, it’s worth mentioning that if customers have not written any reviews on Facebook , nothing will appear. Thus, you need to encourage customers to leave reviews in the first place.

One of the most popular and successful ways to do this is to ask them to.

And yes, it really is that easy. Whenever a customer purchases a product or service from you, remind them to write a review on your Facebook page . Many customers are eager to share their experience with a product with their friends and Facebook is the perfect place to do it.

Of course, if you’re looking for a more aggressive approach, you can add an incentive for leaving a review. For example, offering customers a discount code on their next purchase or transaction if they leave a review. It’s simple, yet effective.

Eventually, you’ll be swimming in Facebook testimonials , but just remember, the plugin will not work if you don’t have any.

How to Share Facebook Reviews in WordPress

Step 1: install wp review slider.

WP Review Slider is a Facebook review plugin for WordPress that allows you to integrate Facebook and Twitter reviews directly into your website. The plugin is customizable so you can make it fit into any website and even use your own custom CSS .

Most importantly, the plugin is extremely easy to use, so it will only take a few minutes to set up.

Let’s start by clicking on Plugins and selecting the Add New option on the left-hand admin panel .

Add New

Search for WP Review Slider in the available search box. This will pull up additional plugins that you may find helpful.

WP Review Slider

Scroll down until you find the WP Review Slider plugin and click on the “Install Now” button and activate the plugin for use.

Install Now

Step 2: Connect With Facebook

The first thing you need to do is connect with a social media platform . The plugin supports both Facebook and Twitter , but this tutorial will only cover Facebook. However, the process is very similar with the connect step being the main difference.

On the left-hand admin panel , click on WP Reviews and select the Facebook link.

Facebook

Click on the “Get Access Code Here” button.

Get Access Code Here

A popup window will open with a Facebook login button. Click it and log in to the Facebook account that is connected to the Facebook page for your business.

show facebook reviews on website

Once you have connected to your Facebook account, a new page will open.

Copy the access code (you’re going to paste it into the plugin configuration when we get back to your WordPress admin section).

Enter the URL for your WordPress site.

Note that if you are using the plugin to display the Facebook page reviews in a particular post or on a particular page of your site (we’ll talk more about that in a minute), you must enter the URL for that particular post or page.

WordPress Facebook reviews how to get access code and enter site URL

Scroll down to the bottom of the configuration page and select the Facebook page that has the reviews that you want to display on your WordPress site. All pages related to your Facebook account will be listed as options here.

Click the “Save” button.

WordPress Facebook reviews select page name

Close the configuration window and go back to your WordPress admin area .

On the left-side navigation menu in your WordPress admin section, click the “WP FB Reviews” link.

Paste the access code that you copied in the previous step into the “Secret Access Code” box (A), and click the “Save Settings” button (B).

WordPress Facebook reviews how to enter access code

Step 3: Create a Template to Display Facebook Reviews in WordPress

The next step is to create a template that will display your Facebook reviews on your website. There are plenty of customization options here, so you may spend a lot of time in this section.

Select the Templates tab and click on the “Add New Reviews Template” button.

WordPress Facebook reviews how to add a template

There are a lot of settings to control the appearance of the plugin, but for the purposes of this tutorial, we will stick to the two basic settings, first is the “Template Title” (A), which can be anything you’d like (it will not be visible on your site).

Next is “Choose Template Type” (B). For this tutorial, we are inserting the plugin into the sidebar or footer of the WordPress site, so select “Widget Area.”

If you were going to use the plugin in a particular post or page of your site (as mentioned earlier), you would choose “Post or Page,” though we’re not covering that configuration here.

Scroll down and click the “Save Template” button.

WordPress Facebook reviews template configuration

Now to add the plugin to a sidebar or footer, go to Appearance > Widgets and drag the widget to the Footer or Sidebar list.

WordPress Facebook reviews widget placement

Open the “WP Reviews Widget” box in the Footer or Sidebar list.

Enter the “Widget Title” (A) (this will be visible on your website above the Facebook reviews section), and from the “Select Review Template” drop-down select the Review Template that you created earlier (B).

WordPress Facebook reviews widget configuration

Step 4: Retrieve Reviews from Facebook

The final step is to simply retrieve or import the reviews from Facebook. Luckily, this is the easiest step.

Underneath where you entered the secret access code, click on the “Retrieve Reviews” button.

WordPress Facebook reviews retrieve reviews

That’s it!

When you view your website now, your Facebook page reviews should be visible in the Footer or Sidebar, depending on where you placed the widget.

Review Placement is Critical

One thing you should give a lot of thought to is the placement of your reviews. You need to place them in areas of your website that will generate sales.

For instance, it’s normal to see reviews on a product page. People are curious about the product, and instead of them leaving the page to find reviews, they will stay if they see the reviews in the same location.

Another great location is on a service page. The first impression is key and if you can highlight that customers are pleased with your service, you might have gotten a new customer. And there is no better way than with reviews.

Carefully consider where you will place these reviews.

Integrate More Facebook Content

It’s no secret that Facebook is the 800-pound gorilla in the room, and you can take advantage of that to give your website a boost in traffic. Most content on Facebook can be imported into WordPress by using the appropriate plugin.

This can range from simple things like adding a Facebook “Like” button to connecting your Facebook events with WordPress or even embedding your Facebook videos into WordPress. You can even add a Facebook login to WordPress. In reality, the options are almost limitless.

Regardless of if you want to add Facebook reviews, or something else, there is a plugin for it.

Have reviews been beneficial to your business? Do you use methods other than Facebook to get reviews for your business?

How to Set Up a Facebook Review Widget on Your Website

3 min read Last Updated Feb 5, 2024

Displaying reviews on your website shows clear social proof that you’re providing quality services to your customers. Let’s talk about why you should display reviews and how you can install a Facebook review widget. Here’s what you’ll find in this article.

Why Display Reviews?

  • How to Embed Facebook Reviews Manually
  • Posting Screenshots of Reviews on Your Website

How to Display Facebook Reviews Automatically

Customize how your reviews look .

Displaying reviews work. Customers trust reviews since they represent the authentic opinions of other customers. The social proof of reviews helps them to understand that your current customers value your services. That pushes them to try out your business.

The stats tell the same story. According to the Spiegel Research Center, displaying reviews leads to a 360% increase in conversion. That’s the power of reviews in action.

Here’s how you can use social proof to attract more customers.

How to Embed Facebook Reviews Manually

If you want to embed  Facebook reviews  manually onto your website, Facebook does provide you with an option to do this. Here’s how.

Of course, manually embedding reviews can be tiresome. Your customers want to see recent reviews. Having to go in and find new reviews regularly can be a tiresome process. Luckily, there is another option.

Posting Screenshots of Facebook Reviews on your website

Don’t post a screenshot of a Facebook review on your site. If you have no other option, embedding reviews is your best option. Just posting screenshots will make your business look less professional in the eyes of potential prospects.

After all, a screenshot definitely won’t look as nice as an actual review feed. Plus, you’ll have to go in and manually post new screenshots every time you get a review you want to share.

You don’t have to rely on manually embedding your reviews on your website . With Birdeye’s live review feed, you can display reviews from Facebook and 150+ other sites on your website automatically. Looking for a way to show Facebook reviews on your WordPress site?

Because Facebook reviews are tied to a real person, they’re a great way to provide authentic social proof for your business or service. But if all of your reviews are just on your Facebook page, that’s not doing much good for your WordPress site, is it?

So, ideally you want a way where you can take those authentic Facebook reviews and share them somewhere on your WordPress site.

That’s what I’m going to show you in this post .

Here’s what you’ll find below:

  • A tutorial on how to display Facebook reviews in WordPress using a free plugin
  • Some recommendations for other free and premium plugins that offer similar functionality, but require a bit more complicated setup

Let’s dive in!

How To Display Facebook Reviews In WordPress With Facebook Reviews

When it comes to free options for displaying Facebook reviews on WordPress, the most popular option is the creatively named Facebook Reviews plugin .

In the free version, you get a simple review widget that you can use to display Facebook reviews on your site’s sidebar or any other widget area. The only thing that you’ll need is Admin access to the page that you want to display reviews from .

While the free version is a bit limited, I like this plugin because it makes the setup process so simple.

To get started, install and activate the free plugin from WordPress.org. Then, here’s how to use it…

Step 1: Connect To Facebook

In the free version of the plugin, you’ll configure everything using the plugin’s widget.

To get started, go to Appearance → Widgets and drag over the new Facebook Reviews widget.

From there, the first thing you’ll need to do is connect your Facebook account by clicking the big Connect to Facebook button:

facebook reviews widget

This will open up the normal Facebook authorization window. All you need to do is click Continue as [Name] :

authorize

Then, you’ll need to give WidgetPack permission to manage your pages. Just click OK :

manage pages

Once you do that, you should see a list of all your Facebook account’s pages. Select the page that has the reviews you want to embed

select page

Step 2: Configure Review Options

Once you’ve selected the page that has your reviews, you can use the other widget options to configure how your Facebook reviews function. In the free version, many of the options are locked. But here’s what you are able to do…

In the Display Options area, you can disable profile links and/or change to a dark background. I like leaving profile links enabled because it adds more authenticity – but it’s up to you:

configure widget

Second, the Advance Options area lets you:

  • Force links to open in a new window
  • Add nofollow to user links

Beyond that, you can also choose how long to Cache data . This is important because it has an effect on performance. Basically, you can choose how often you want the plugin to update the review content.

By default, the plugin will only update once per day . It will then store the reviews as static data for the rest of the day, which means that there’s no need to query Facebook every time someone visits ( that’s a good thing! ).

If you want, you can increase or decrease this frequency – but I think the default of 1 Day is a good option for most sites:

configure more settings

And that’s it! Once you Save the widget, you should see your Facebook reviews in your WordPress site’s sidebar .

Why You Might Want Facebook Reviews Pro

The free version of Facebook Reviews only lets you display a list of Facebook reviews in your sidebar ( or other widget areas ). But if you upgrade to the pro version, you’ll get the option to:

  • Embed Facebook reviews anywhere on your site using shortcodes
  • Display a Facebook review slider on your site
  • Add proper schema markup to get Google rich snippets
  • Filter reviews to set a minimum rating ( so that you don’t accidentally display negative reviews )
  • Shorten long reviews with a Read More link

The Pro version costs $45.

3 Other Free And Premium Plugins To Help You Show Facebook Reviews On WordPress

Beyond the plugin above, here are some other good free and premium plugins to help you display Facebook reviews on WordPress.

1. WP Facebook Review Slider – Free

display facebook reviews on WordPress as a slider

As you can probably guess from the name, WP Facebook Review Slider helps you display a slider of your Facebook reviews on your site.

The nice thing about this plugin is that you can use it in posts/pages ( as well as your sidebar) even in the free version.

So in the free version , it’s a little more flexible than the Facebook Reviews plugin above because you can use it in different spots.

The downside, though, is that you’ll need to create your own Facebook app to use this plugin, which makes the setup a bit more complicated than the method I showed. That’s actually why I used Facebook Reviews for the tutorial – it has a simpler setup process .

Still, it’s nothing too complicated, and the plugin provides detailed instructions to help you set up your app.

We also reviewed WP Review Slider Pro ( the Pro version ) if you want to see it in more detail.

2. Facebook Reviews Pro by NinjaTeam

facebook reviews plugin

This is not the same Facebook Reviews plugin that I showed you above. It’s a different one that’s sold via CodeCanyon, where it has a 5-star rating on 272 sales.

It gives you shortcodes that you can use to display Facebook reviews anywhere on your WordPress site. And like a lot of Envato marketplace products, it also has a dedicated integration with WPBakery Page Builder ( what used to be Visual Composer ).

Beyond that, you can also filter which reviews to display ( like setting a minimum star rating ), as well as add pagination if you’re displaying lots of different reviews.

It also includes a neat Trust Badge widget ( pictured above ).

Facebook Reviews Pro by NinjaTeam costs $39 at CodeCanyon.

3. WP Review Pro

wp review pro

Yes, I know those are Yelp reviews. I couldn’t find a live demo of the Facebook reviews functionality .

Finally, the new version of MyThemeShop’s WP Review Pro includes an option to embed Facebook reviews in WordPress.

The plugin is overkill if all you want to do is embed Facebook reviews. But if you want to display your own review boxes along with Facebook reviews, this is one that can do it all.

I use the free version on my personal site and have been pretty happy with it .

The only downside is that the new pro version is pricey – it costs $87.

Final Thoughts On How To Add Facebook Reviews To WordPress

If you want the absolute simplest way to display Facebook reviews in WordPress, the free Facebook Reviews plugin that I showed you has the easiest setup process – the display positions are just a bit limited in the free version.

WP Facebook Review Slider offers more generous functionality in the free version – you’ll just need to create your own app to use it, which requires a little more upfront setup.

And if you’re willing to pay, I’d still probably stick with the Pro versions of those two plugins.

how to turn on facebook reviews

  • October 22, 2020

Facebook continues to be one of the most critical social media platforms for small businesses to tap into. Over 90 million small businesses using Facebook and 7 million leverage the platform for advertising. With these stats in mind, it doesn’t come as a surprise that companies continue to incorporate Facebook into their online reputation management efforts.

One of the most popular features that a Facebook Business page offers is the option to enable and showcase customer reviews. This is especially critical as it is a factor consumers keep in mind before choosing to engage with a business. In fact, Facebook has an advantage over other social networks in this regard, with the platform influencing buying decisions 7 times more than its competitors.

Because of the visibility and exposure that Facebook can provide for small and growing enterprises , if you haven’t already turned on your Facebook Business page’s review functionality, you certainly should now!

After all, your customers trust online reviews just as much as they would a recommendation from a friend or family member.

How To Enable Reviews On Your Facebook Business Page

Enabling reviews on Facebook can help build your businesses SEO strategy, brand presence, and boost your profitability in the long run.

Believe it or not, the process is a lot simpler than it sounds too! With five easy steps, you can turn on Facebook reviews. Here’s everything you need to know:

Step #1: Log in to your Facebook Business page

  • Step #2: Click on the “Settings” tab

Step #3: Navigate to “Templates and Tabs”

  • Step #4: Enable Reviews through the slider

Now, this step may seem pretty obvious but is required for you to access your Facebook Business page or utilize any of the functionalities Facebook offers you for businesses.

You want to make sure you log in through the associated administrator account for your Facebook Business page. If you’re already logged into your personal Facebook account, it’s also easy to switch over to your Facebook page.

Log in to your Facebook Business page

Step #2: Click on the “Settings” tab

Once you’re logged in and have navigated over to your Facebook Business page, locate the “Settings” tab on the page’s top right corner.

Click on the “Settings” tab

This button will take you to the page required to manage all the nitty-gritty components associated with individual page settings and your Facebook business profile overall.

And, yes! This includes the reviews section as well!

Step #4: Enable Reviews Through the Slider

Go down to where it says Reviews, and select the slider off to the right and make sure it is set as seen in the photo below, highlighted blue and on!

Resources To Get More Facebook Reviews

You’ve turned on Facebook reviews for your business page, and customers can finally start dropping in those star ratings and positive reviews you deserve!

But, as with most online marketing tactics, it doesn’t stop there.

Turning on Facebook reviews is just the first step in a long journey to growing your reviews and reputation on Facebook.

There are several strategies and resources you can equip yourself with to get more Facebook reviews over time.

These include the following:

Embed Facebook reviews widgets on your website

Positive Facebook reviews can also be showcased on your website or other social media platforms through widgets. Showing potential customers the star reviews you’ve gained is a method of social proof.

Other customers who have shopped with you may also be more encouraged to drop in reviews if they see reviews. This is especially beneficial for small and local businesses, where mutual friends and family may be using the same service.

Enabling the use of widgets will also make it easy for customers on other platforms to be redirected to your business profile on Facebook directly without having to do a manual Google search for your business name.

Share Google reviews on Facebook

Suppose you already have an established business profile with several reviews on Google, but you’re just getting started on Facebook. In that case, you can “borrow” your Google My Business success and share it on Facebook’s platform.

Pro-tip : tagging customers directly on Facebook, who have left positive reviews on your Google business listing, is also an innovative way to engage with them directly . They may even share the post on their profile, allowing your business to gain more visibility through their extended Facebook networks and linking back to your Google page as well, which provides further detail on how to reach you (ex: your phone number.)

Make Review Request Email & Social Media Campaigns

As mentioned in the previous point, email marketing and social media campaigns are a smart way to boost your brand image to both an existing pool of customers as well as new customers simultaneously. It’s crucial to engage with customers throughout their customer journey, and even more so after a sale or service is complete.

You want to ensure your customers are happy and content with the level of service you’ve provided, and if so, give feedback online.

Pro-tip: create Facebook review email/social templates that you can keep handy. This will save time, allowing you to easily shoot out review requests without getting hung up on the structure or the way you frame it.

Of course, it’s best to customize the requests to write a review depending on your business’s nature and the customers you deal with, but it’s better to be prepared with a bag of tricks than to stress when the opportunity comes!

Facebook provides a multitude of value offerings for businesses that are willing to give it a try. Nothing should hold small business owners and business managers back from wanting to grow their business, especially when there are so many useful tools and platforms to leverage in today’s digital marketing platform.

So, what are you waiting for?

Set up that Facebook Business page and get those business reviews flowing !

How to Show Google, Facebook, and Yelp Reviews in WordPress

Last updated on March 14th, 2024 by Editorial Staff | Reviewed by: Syed Balkhi

Do you want to show Google, Facebook, or Yelp reviews in WordPress?

Customer reviews encourage people to trust your website and buy from your business. There are lots of third-party sites where potential customers can see your reviews, but it’s also a good idea to show this content on your own website.

In this article, we will show you how to display business reviews from Google, Facebook, and Yelp in your WordPress site.

How to show Google, Facebook, and Yelp reviews in WordPress

Why You Should Display Business Reviews in WordPress

There are lots of different websites where customers can review your company such as Google, Yelp, and Facebook. However, potential customers will need to visit these third-party websites in order to see the reviews.

With that being said, it’s a good idea to add Google, Yelp, and Facebook reviews to your WordPress website so that everyone can see them. For example, you might show positive reviews on your WooCommerce product pages , or your About Us page.

These reviews can convince customers to trust your company, even if they haven’t bought from you before.

Adding reviews specifically from reputable platforms serves as social proof, showing potential customers that your business is trusted and reliable.

You can even use reviews to reduce your cart abandonment rates , by adding them to your custom WooCommerce checkout page .

A custom checkout review page, with customer reviews

With that said, let’s see how you can easily add Yelp, Google, and Facebook reviews to WordPress. Simply use the quick links below to jump straight to the platform you want to use.

Method 1. How to Show Yelp Reviews in WordPress

Method 2. how to show google reviews in wordpress, method 3. how to show facebook reviews in wordpress, customizing your google, facebook, or yelp review feed, how to add reviews on your wordpress website.

You could simply copy and paste the best reviews into your site, and then show them using a customer review plugin . However, depending on the plugin you use, you may need to add new reviews manually, which can take a lot of time and effort.

There will also be a delay between customers posting on sites like Yelp and Facebook, and those reviews appearing on your WordPress website.

With that in mind, it’s a good idea to create a review feed that updates automatically using the Reviews Feed Pro plugin.

This single plugin allows you to show reviews from all the biggest review platforms, including Google, Yelp, Facebook, Trustpilot , TripAdvisor, and more.

Customer reviews, displayed on a WordPress website

It also comes with pre-designed templates, so you can display your reviews in different layouts, including showcases, carousels, grids, and more.

The Reviews Feed automatically copies your website’s design so the reviews look like a natural part of your website, rather than content embedded from another platform.

There’s also a free version of the Reviews Feed plugin that you can use to get started. However, it only allows you to display reviews from Google and Yelp.

Lots of positive Google reviews and high rankings may improve your business’s search ranking, especially in local search results.

Google also shows your reviews on relevant search engine result pages.

Many businesses, websites, and online stores use Facebook to connect with their audience. Facebook also has its own built-in review system, so you may want to add these reviews to your website.

Unlike Yelp and Google, your Facebook page belongs to you, so this is also a way to promote your profile and get more social media followers.

To restrict Smash Balloon’s access to your Facebook page, just click any of the switches to turn it from ‘Yes’ to ‘No.’ However, be aware that this can affect the content that appears on your website.

With that in mind, it’s a good idea to leave all the switches enabled.

When you’re happy with how the Facebook permissions are set up, click on ‘Done.’

After a few moments, you should see a message confirming that you’ve connected your WordPress website and your Facebook page .

How to show Facebook reviews on your WooCommerce store or WordPress website

You can now choose the template you want to use for the Facebook reviews feed.

After making the decision, click on ‘Next.’

Choosing a template for the Facebook feed review

Smash Balloon will now create a feed showing all your Facebook reviews.

Smash Balloon automatically copies your WordPress theme so any reviews feed you create will fit perfectly with your site’s design. However, Smash Balloon also has an advanced feed editor so you can fine-tune every part of the feed.

No matter whether you create a feed using Google, Facebook, or Yelp, Smash Balloon will open its feed editor automatically.

The Smash Ballon review editor

Note: If you accidentally closed the editor then don’t panic. Simply go to Reviews Feed » All Feeds in the WordPress dashboard, and then click on the ‘Edit’ icon next to the feed.

Smash Balloon shows a live preview of your review feed to the right. On the left is a menu that shows the different settings that you can use to change how the feed looks.

To see what changes you can make, start by clicking on ‘Layout’ in the left-hand menu. Here, you can choose from a Grid , Masonry, or Carousel layout.

As you click on the different layouts, the live preview will automatically update to show the new layout. This makes it easy to try different layouts and find the one you prefer.

Changing the layout of a review feed

You can also change the spacing, how many reviews you include in the feed, and the number of characters WordPress shows from each review.

As you make changes, remember that the feed may look different on smartphones and tablets, compared to desktop computers.

With that being said, it’s a good idea to test the mobile version of your feed using the row of buttons in the right-hand corner. In this way, you can create a review feed that looks just as good on smartphones and tablets, as it does on desktop computers.

Previewing the review feed on smartphones, tablets, and desktop computers

Finally, if you select the Carousel layout then you can change how the reviews scroll using the ‘Pagination’ settings.

For example, you can enable autoplay so the reviews scroll automatically or increase the interval so visitors have more time to read each review.

Showing reviews in a carousel layout

When you’re happy with these changes, click on the small arrow next to ‘Customize.’

This takes you back to the main Smash Balloon review feed editor.

Customizing the review feed using Smash Balloon

The next setting you can explore is ‘Header,’ which controls the text that appears at the top of your feed.

By default, Smash Balloon shows a ‘Review’ headline, your average star rating, and a ‘Write a review’ button.

Customizing the review feed header

This header helps visitors understand the content, while also encouraging them to leave their own review. However, if you prefer then you can remove the header using the ‘Enable’ toggle.

If you do show the header, then you can add or remove content using the Heading, Button, and Average Review Rating checkboxes.

Removing content from a Google, Facebook, or Yelp feed

To change the padding and margins, simply use the settings under ‘Element Header Spacing.’

If you want to change any of the text that appears in the header, then simply click on either Heading, Button, or Average Review Rating. This takes you to an area where you can change the text color , size, and more.

You can also replace the standard text with your own custom messaging by typing into the ‘Content’ field.

Adding a custom header to a Yelp, Facebook or Google review feed

When you’re ready to return to the main editor screen, just click on the ‘Customize’ link at the top of the left-hand menu.

The next setting you can look at is ‘Reviews,’ so give this option a click. Here, you can choose between ‘Post Style’ and ‘Edit Individual Elements.’

Customizing a Facebook, Yelp, or Google review feed

If you select ‘Post Style,’ then you can change how the individual reviews look inside the feed. For example, you can switch to a boxed layout, add a shadow, and change the corner radius to create curved edges.

As you make changes, the preview updates automatically so you can try different settings to see what looks the best on your website.

Adding a boxed layout style to a review feed in WordPress

If you choose ‘Edit Individual Elements,’ then you’ll see all the different content that Reviews Feed Pro includes in each review such as rating, author and date, and the review text.

To remove a piece of content, just click to uncheck its box.

Customizing the content in a review feed

You can also customize how each type of content looks by clicking on it.

For example, in the following image, we’ve changed the color and size of the review content, known as the ‘Review Paragraph.’

Changing the text style in a review feed

When you’re happy with how the review feed looks, click on ‘Customize’ to return to the main Smash Balloon editor.

You can now move to the next settings screen by selecting ‘Load More Button.’

Customizing the 'Load More' button in a WordPress review feed

The ‘Load More’ button allows visitors to scroll through more reviews, so the plugin adds it by default. Since it’s such an important button, you may want to help it stand out by changing the background color , hover state, label, margins, and more.

You can also replace the default ‘Load More’ text with your own messaging by typing into the ‘Text’ field.

A custom Load More button

If you prefer, then you can remove the button completely by clicking the ‘Enable’ toggle.

When you’re happy with how the review feed looks, don’t forget to click on ‘Save.’ With that out of the way, you’re ready to add Google, Facebook, or Yelp reviews to your site.

Now you can add the review feed to your site using a block, widget, or shortcode.

If you’ve created more than one feed using Reviews Feed Pro, then you’ll need to know the feed’s shortcode if you’re going to use a widget or block.

To get this information, go to Reviews Feed » All Feeds and then look at the value under ‘Shortcode.’ You’ll need to add this code to the block or widget, so make a note of it.

In the following image, we’ll need to use [reviews-feed feed=2]

Adding a review feed to WordPress using shortcode

If you want to embed the feed in a page or post, then you can use the Reviews Feed block.

Just open the page or post where you want to show your Yelp, Google, or Facebook reviews. Then, click on the ‘+’ icon to add a new block and start typing ‘Reviews Feed.’

When the right block appears, click to add it to the page or post.

Adding a Reviews Feed block to your WordPress website

The block will show one of your review feeds by default. If you want to show a different feed, then find ‘Shortcode Settings’ in the right-hand menu.

Here, simply add the shortcode you got earlier, and then click on ‘Apply Changes.’

How to add Yelp, Facebook, and Google reviews to your website using shortcode

If you’re happy with how the review feed looks, then you can go ahead and publish or update the page.

Another option is to add the Reviews Feed widget to your website. This is a great way to show positive customer reviews on every page of your site. For example, you might add the widget to the sidebar or WordPress footer .

To add the Reviews Feed widget to your site, head over to Appearance » Widgets . You can then click on the blue ‘+’ icon towards the top of the screen.

How to add the reviews feed widget to your WordPress theme

In the panel that appears, type in ‘Reviews Feed’ to find the right widget.

Then, simply drag the widget onto the area where you want to show the reviews, such as the sidebar or similar section.

How to add reviews a widget-ready area

The widget will automatically show one of the feeds you created using the Reviews Feed plugin. If this isn’t the feed you want to display, then type the feed’s shortcode into the ‘Shortcode Settings’ box.

After that, click on ‘Apply Changes.’

You can now make the widget live by clicking on the ‘Update’ button. For more information, please see our step-by-step guide on how to add and use widgets in WordPress .

Another option is embedding the Google, Facebook, or Yelp reviews on any page, post, or widget-ready area using the shortcode.

Simply go to Reviews Feed » All Feeds and copy the code in the ‘Shortcode’ column. You can now add this code to any Shortcode block.

For help placing the shortcode, please see our guide on how to add a shortcode .

Are you using a block-enabled theme ? Then you can use the full-site editor to add the Reviews Feed block anywhere on your website.

In the WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance » Editor .

Adding reviews to your website using the full-site editor (FSE)

By default, the full-site editor will show the theme’s home template. If you want to add the Google, Facebook, or Yelp feed to a different template, then click on the arrow next to ‘Home.’

You can then choose any design from the dropdown, such as the footer template.

How to add Facebook, Yelp, or Google reviews to a FSE template

After choosing a template, simply hover your mouse over the area where you want to show the reviews.

Then, click on the ‘+’ button.

When the right block appears, click to add it to the template.

I recently added my business to Google and wanted to add reviews to my website, even though I don’t have many yet. Thanks for the detailed guide, including how to get the API, because I probably wouldn’t have been able to do it on my own. Now I can finally have Google reviews on my website in my personal portfolio.

These are the best platforms to get reviews about our products and services and also to show them on our WordPress websites to get the visitors confidence and trust. I have not yet implemented any of these steps in the past but will surely try to get these for my course website once it gets fully launched. I really appreciate the quality content and the ease of implementation that you have simplified.

You might be surprised at how simple it is to create a random review widget . Just as before, you must include the correct field ID in your content in order to include your field values. After copying the shortcode for your View, save it. The page is also now loaded with a review that is randomly chosen every time it is accessed.

  • Grow sales by demonstrating your Facebook brand page’s rating : Take users in the fence to convert with a Facebook user reviews widget. According to a study by Bright Local , 84% of people trust other customers’ reviews and testimonials as much as they rely on word-of-mouth recommendations.
  • Attain more positive customer reviews : Several Facebook Reviews widget generators allow you to display a “Write a review” call-to-action (CTA) button on your website so that you can attain more reviews.

You have to take extra measures when using a Facebook Reviews widget, such as testimonials slider widgets on a website .

  • Enable reviews on your Facebook page (if you have not done so already) : These Facebook Reviews widget generators aggregate reviews (not post reviews on your Facebook page) and continuously check for new reviews. So, ensure you have enabled the “Reviews” option and that the review tab is displayed.

Turn on off reviews Facebook Business page

  • Do not limit it to one widget type only : Many services listed below allow you to generate different types of widgets, such as floating badges, carousel widgets, sidebar widgets, and sliders. You can utilize multiple types. For example, create a dedicated reviews page and embed Facebook reviews along with other testimonials.
  • Customize widgets according to your needs : Change fonts, rotate reviews, resize widgets, edit colors, and more.
  • Concern about page loading speed : Using multiple third-party widgets on a website can impact the page loading speed. Use a script manager such as Google Tag Manager , Cloudflare Zaraz , Tagmate.app, etc., to load scripts asynchronously or defer the script.

Life Hill Gayi review: Kusha Kapila, Divyenndu show is a test of patience

Life hill gayi review: you watch reasonably proficient actors, especially vinay pathak and divyenndu, flailing about in lame pursuits, and struggle to find a chuckle in this so-called 'breezy comedy'..

show facebook reviews on website

This six-part web series was nothing but an exercise of my patience. I tried hard to find a chuckle in this so-called ‘breezy comedy about sibling rivalry in the hills’, and the attempt was a total fail.

In a picturesque Uttarakhand village lies a neglected resort which a rich old gent (Kabir Bedi) hands over to his squabbling grandchildren Dev and Kalki (Divyenndu and Kusha Kapila respectively ) so that they can make it a going concern. Whoever does the best job, will get dadu’s eternal blessings, and, presumably, all his wealth.

show facebook reviews on website

Accordingly the duo, all very ‘shehari babu’ and ‘mem’, accompanied by a permanently-on-the verge-of-drunkenness-dad (Vinay Pathak), start doing the needful. The fact that I’m forced to use the last two words, dear readers, should let you know my plight while I somehow hung on to get to the show’s end. No, it doesn’t get better.

ALSO READ | Gyaarah Gyaarah review: Stretched and convoluted, Kritika Kamra-Raghav Juyal series is best left in the past

Clearly, there was a kernel of an idea somewhere in there. But looking at these reasonably proficient actors, especially Vinay Pathak and Divyenndu, flailing about in lame pursuits, surrounded by a supporting cast equally at sea, proves that ideas alone are not enough. They never have been.

Festive offer

A hopelessly overdressed Kapila swans around, flinging silly orders at some locals who have had the misfortune to sign up as staff. Divyenndu strikes a friendship with spirited local lass (Mukti Mohan), who promptly proceeds to show him the error of his citified ways. Pathak keeps fishing out a hip flask, and in one episode, goes to the extent of sacrificing his Patek watch to help out his kids. We know this because his daughter throws out a pointed comment to that effect. The still-handsome Kabir Bedi is confined to a flat screen, and appears momentarily only to vanish, which seems to be the best.

There’s also a village pradhan, regional (Kumaon-Garhwal) rivalry , and old customs: the idea is, of course, to extol rural virtues and show the ignorant townies what’s what.

Good plan. But they forgot the how, and the wherefore.

Life Hill Gayi cast: Divyenndu, Vinay Pathak, Kusha Kapila, Mukti Mohan, Kabir Bedi Life Hill Gayi director: Prem Mistry Life Hill Gayi rating: 1 star

Life Hill Gayi review: The attempt was a total fail

"A six-part web series about sibling rivalry in a village turns out to be a tedious exercise in patience. The neglected resort, handed over to squabbling grandchildren, is the setting for a competition to win their grandfather's blessings and wealth. Despite a talented cast, the show fails to deliver laughs and falls flat in its attempt to extol rural virtues."

  • Trivia The casting of Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni as Lily and Ryle caused backlash from fans because in the book Lily is 23 and Ryle is 30, while Lively is 35 and Baldoni is 39. Author of the book Colleen Hoover explained in an interview that she wanted to age the characters up in the movie in an effort to correct a mistake she made in the book. She said, "Back when I wrote It Ends With Us, the new adult [genre] was very popular. You were writing college-age characters. That's what I was contracted to do. I made Lily very young. I didn't know that neurosurgeons went to school for 50 years. There's not a 20-something neurosurgeon. As I started making this movie, I'm like, 'We need to age them out, because I messed up.' So, that's my fault."

The 1960s Novella That Got AI (Mostly) Right

An italian sci-fi book buzzes with many issues that society still grapples with today..

  • Science and Technology

A secret military project. A vast artificial mind. Questions of consciousness. These form the premise of Dino Buzzati’s The Singularity , originally published in 1960 at the dawn of the field of artificial intelligence (AI). The novella follows Italian scientist Ermanno Ismani, summoned by the Ministry of Defense to work on a top-secret project, as he ventures with his wife, Elisa, to a sprawling machine hidden in the mountains of the Italian countryside. The machine’s intelligence far surpasses that of humans—and its creators claim that the machine has come alive.

Written a half-century before the deep-learning revolution, much of the technology in The Singularity is delightfully retro, calling back to the early Cold War era of secret military projects, atomic weapons, and computers that filled entire rooms and ran on punch cards. Yet Buzzati’s prescient story, told in a new translation by Anne Milano Appel, is buzzing with many issues that society still grapples with today. Namely, Buzzati’s characters struggle to grasp the magnitude and consequences of the machine they have built.

The Singularity , Dino Buzzati, trans. Anne Milano Appel, NYRB classics, 136 pp., $15.95, June 2024.

The Singularity unfolds as a series of successive mysteries. As the Ismanis venture through layers of security precautions, the nature of the project is peeled back. Eventually, they arrive at a giant machine, which is spread across an entire valley, “a tangled succession of buildings similar to silos, towers, mastabas, retaining walls, slender bridges, barbicans, fortifications, blockhouses, and bastions…. As though a city had crashed down the sides of a ravine.” This city-machine has no inhabitants; everything is “hermetically sealed and blank.” Studded with antennae and sensors, the buildings hum with the incessant churning of gears, tubes, and magnetic wires.

Buzzati’s depiction, though not directly referred to as “AI,” isn’t too far off from what would become reality: Today’s cutting-edge AI systems inhabit sprawling data centers thrumming with the sound of fans that cool thousands of chips churning day and night to train massive neural networks with trillions of connections. The technology has changed, but the scale of effort at the frontier of AI development rings true. Indeed, the most jarring anachronism in the novella is not the technology, but the casual sexism of 1960s Italian society. The engineers and scientists are all men, and the only women are their wives and lovers. Still, it is the relationships between the female characters and their choices that drive the plot forward.

Few of Buzzati’s characters know how to relate to this new, superhuman machine. Some foolishly taunt it, unaware of its power. (One particularly tense moment occurs when a scientist’s wife teases the machine with her naked body after a midday swim, and it reaches out “an articulated metal arm” to search for her.) Others are fearful of the unknown. The scientists who built it are drunk on power. “We will become masters of the world!” the lead scientist, Endriade, proclaims. Today’s leading AI developers are similarly entranced by the power of AI. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has said that the technology will “most likely, sort of, lead to the end of the world, but in the meantime there will be great companies created with serious machine learning.”

The questions these characters wrestle with will be familiar to modern readers: How can one tell the difference between a real person and a simulation? What, if any, understanding lurks beneath the surface of the seemingly intelligent output of machines? Can language lead to intelligence? And can machines ever truly think and feel?

These questions haunt Elisa, who—spoilers ahead—ventures into the machine’s inner chambers when it claims that it has “a wonderful secret” to show her; Elisa is fooled by the machine’s persona, which takes the form of her long-lost friend. She is just one of the characters who form a deep attachment to the machine, blinding them to its dangers. The ending, where Elisa confronts the machine’s awful reality, calls to mind the 2014 movie Ex Machina , whose protagonist is seduced by a robot’s personhood despite its manifestly inhuman appearance.

The degree to which Buzzati’s characters anthropomorphize the machine is the most striking parallel to AI today. The massive neural networks that power contemporary large language models have been compared to a human face masking a “shoggoth,” the giant shape-shifting monster in H.P. Lovecraft’s fiction emanating eyes and mouths. Not only are large language models such as the one behind ChatGPT not human—they are not even chatbots. They are text generators simulating chatbots, which themselves sometimes simulate humans. Even still, their deception can be convincing. A profusion of new apps, including Replika , Waifu , and EVA , offer customizable intimate AI “companions.”

Despite these similarities, Buzzati’s depictions remind us that AI development has changed in some surprising ways. The billions of dollars spent on AI today are driven by private companies, not governments—a major shift from 20th-century technology projects such as nuclear weapons development and the space race. Furthermore, Buzzati’s scientists toil in secret in a remote facility, with only a handful of people aware of the machine’s existence. Today’s leading AI companies also closely guard information about the techniques and datasets used to train their systems, but at the same time, they boast about their performance and race to push their products to hundreds of millions of users.

For decades, science fiction writers such as Buzzati envisioned AI systems cut off from the outside world. HAL 9000 in 2001: A Space Odyssey was confined to a spaceship sailing through the void to Jupiter. AM, the sentient computer villain of Harlan Ellison’s I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream , is buried deep underground, protected from global nuclear war. In The Singularity , the consequences of what the scientists have built—which quickly turn deadly—are confined to the mountain hideout. But today’s tech companies have rushed to deploy AI, often prematurely, into widespread applications to grab market share. The most advanced AI systems are literally in our pockets, available as apps on our phones.

The risks of contemporary AI, from insidious biases to deepfake-fueled disinformation , can thus be felt widely across society. The reality is that AI systems won’t have to break out and take over civilization; they are already connected to the internet and increasingly embedded in our lives.

The power that AI systems hold in our societies will only increase as they advance at an unprecedented pace. One of today’s leading AI companies, OpenAI, has stated that its goal is “ superintelligence ,” a machine that is more powerful than human intelligence. To be clear, even the most advanced AI systems today—OpenAI’s GPT-4o, Anthropic’s Claude 3.5, Google’s Gemini Ultra, and Meta’s Llama 3—fall far short of human intelligence. However, the field is rapidly advancing, and like the Ismanis, we are all venturing into the unknown.

Some AI scientists predict that we are on the cusp of human-level intelligence, while others argue that it is decades away. A recent survey of more than 2,000 AI researchers predicted that there is a 50 percent chance that AI will be advanced enough to “accomplish every task better and more cheaply than human workers” by 2047. The fact that The Singularity is more than 60 years old helps to put these timelines in perspective. AI scientists have been making confident predictions of rapid progress since the start of the field. Leading AI scientists famously believed in 1956 that they could make “a significant advance” in the study of intelligence in a single summer. Of course, understanding intelligence has proved much harder than they imagined.

Yet even if significantly more advanced forms of AI are still a long way off, it no longer seems unlikely for AI systems to soon be able to perform most of the work that humans currently do on the computer. State-of-the-art AI systems already achieve human-level performance on a wide range of cognitive tests, including the SAT and bar exam . If current trends continue, the most advanced AI systems will be trained on roughly 1 million times more effective computing power compared with today’s technology by 2030—a consequence of better algorithms, faster chips, and increased spending. Not even the world’s top scientists can say for certain which tasks AI will or won’t be able to perform a few years from now.

To guide our way forward in this uncertain future, we will need new stories. For all of its resonances with today’s technology, The Singularity —and many other works of AI fiction written in the decades since—could only articulate, not answer, the profound questions that AI poses. As AI becomes more integrated into our day-to-day lives, it will only become more important to create and engage with art that can account for the realities of AI today: its ubiquitous presence driven by unregulated tech corporations, alien forms of intelligence masked by a deceptively human front, and the fact that AI won’t need to “take over” if we willingly give it more control over our lives.

Optavia Diet Review: Does This Program Really Work for Weight Loss?

The Optavia diet program brings a simplified approach to help customers lose weight. We put it to the test and spoke with a nutritionist to get their thoughts.

Losing weight is by no means an easy task. It needs sacrifice and a shift in habits for many. You might have recently seen the Optavia diet program on your social media feed; this is a system designed to help you lose weight by adopting healthy habits and applying them to your everyday life.

Founded in 2002, Optavia is owned by parent company Medifast, known for selling weight loss and health-related products, often through multilevel marketing.

To learn more about Optavia's plans and offerings, I tested the products and spoke with a nutritionist. Here's what I found.

What is Optavia?

Optavia is a diet company that sells bars, shakes, snacks and easy-to-prepare recipes. It emphasizes both good eating and good living. The company's message is that if you learn healthy habits, you can lead a healthy life.

scren

Optavia first caught people's attention on Instagram in 2018 when TV's Cake Boss, aka  Buddy Valastro , shared his weight loss success. In a post on his profile  he wrote, "A lot of people have been asking me how I've slimmed down lately … I've used the Optavia program. I think everybody is different and you should do whatever suits you but this is what I'm doing and I'm very happy with the results so far!" He says he is not sponsored.

Let's jump into how Optavia helped the Cake Boss lose weight.

How does Optavia work?

The diet company relies on meal replacements called "fuelings," which are branded products designed to keep you full until your next fueling. No matter which meal plan you choose, you'll be eating every 2 to 3 hours, resulting in six meals a day. However, one to three (depending on your plan) meals will be a dish you make at home using fresh ingredients. The program also recommends avoiding alcohol, sugary drinks and desserts, high-calorie condiments, starchy vegetables and whole grains.

Each fueling product contains around 100 to 150 calories. Optavia's minimal-calorie diet has clients consuming about 800 to 1,100 calories a day, depending on the plan and number of homemade meals. According to the  USDA's dietary guidelines for adults, women should consume 1,600 to 2,200 calories per day, and men 2,200 to 3,000 calories.

This calorie deficit causes rapid weight loss at the start of the diet. Health professionals recommend a 500-calorie deficit for healthy weight loss. Always consult with your doctor before making changes to your diet to ensure you're consuming enough calories.

Optavia meal plans

Optavia offers three meal plans:

  • Optimal Weight 5-and-1 Plan (five fuelings and one lean and green meal a day)
  • Optimal Weight 4-and-2-and-1 Plan (four fuelings, two lean and green meals and two essential amino acids a day)
  • Optimal Health 3-and-3 Plan (three fuelings, three balanced meals, one whey protein and one essential amino acid a day)

Optavia fuelings

bar

Optavia's fuelings are the bulk of every meal plan -- they include bars, shakes, brownie and pancake mix, snack sticks, cereals, pasta, potatoes, soups and pudding. Each product is said to be high in vitamins and minerals, probiotics and protein, and doesn't contain any artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners. The meal plan you choose will determine how many fuelings you'll receive.

While not all fueling products are available in every meal plan, you do have the option to customize your fuelings kit.

Optavia lean-and-green meals

shrimp-campechana-salad-v2-jpg

The meal plan you choose will determine how many lean-and-green meals you eat a day. Unlike fuelings, these meals are not included in your meal kit. That means extra grocery shopping and cooking is required, but each meal is completely up to you. Optavia does provide recipes.

Each lean-and-green meal you prepare on your own must include:

  • 5 to 7 ounces of lean protein (for example, chicken, salmon or tofu)
  • Three servings of nonstarchy vegetables (for example, cauliflower, collard greens or broccoli)
  • Up to two servings of healthy fat (for example, avocado, eggs or nuts)

Personal coaching with Optavia

Losing weight is hard, and it's even harder to do it alone. A personal coach can help motivate you and ease the stress of beginning a weight loss journey. You can connect with Optavia's personal coaches through text or email, or in person if distance allows.

A majority of Optavia's coaches were clients themselves. After training provided by the company, you can become a paid coach for newcomers. While the training Optavia provides seems extensive, coaches don't go through professional training. This is where aspects of Optavia's parent company, Medifast, come in, through multilevel marketing to bring in new clients and coaches.

Is Optavia food any good?

I was sent eight bars, two snack sticks, four shake packets, four potato packets, four pancake mixes and one box of chocolate brownie mix (containing seven packets). This was a small sample of what to expect in either the Optimal Weight 4-and-2-and-1 Plan or the Optimal Weight 5-and-1 Plan.

opt

I'm not a professional food critic, but I did put myself in the shoes of someone on the Optavia diet. I made sure to pay special attention to taste, texture, nutritional value, portion size and the effort it took to prepare the meals.

I started my trial run of Optavia with one of the eight bars in my package. Out of the wrapper, one bar is about the size of my pointer finger. It contains 110 calories, 11 grams of protein, 3.5 grams of fat and 25 vitamins and minerals. I thought the bars tasted great, similar to cereal bars I would eat as a kid. There are various flavors including peanut butter, s'mores, chocolate mint cookie and raisin oat cinnamon. If you're not a fan of chocolate, there are plenty of other flavors to try.

opt1

I wasn't as impressed with the other fuelings in the box. Although the brownie was easy to prepare (add water and microwave), it didn't have much flavor and was pretty dry. It had the consistency of chocolate cake, but it was bitter. The brownie contains yogurt chips, which were the tastiest part of the fueling. It contains 110 calories, 11 grams of protein and 8 grams of sugar.

opt4

Mashed potatoes are another common fueling in both Optimal Weight meal plans. I only needed to add water and microwave them, like making Idahoan instant potatoes. I tried the sour cream and chive flavor, although there are more to choose from. Each packet of potatoes contains 100 calories, 11 grams of protein and 0.5 grams of fat.

opt6

As pictured above, the portion is small. However, I think the potatoes are filling due to the amount of protein. As for taste, the chive flavor is strong but not strong enough to cover up the processed flavor. The texture is similar to homemade mashed potatoes, but the consistency is too dry.

opt3

Lastly, I tried the honey mustard and onion sticks. They're similar to flavored pretzel sticks, and contain 100 calories, 11 grams of protein and 1.5 grams of fat. It's hard to consider them a fueling, because they look more like snacks to me. The honey mustard sticks were bland, dry and heavily processed.

Shakes are considered a fueling, but they are very different from the other fuelings offered. They contain higher amounts of protein and fat. These traditional protein diet shakes contain around 100 calories, 14 grams of protein and 0.5 to 1 gram of fat.

opt5

I tried one of the chocolate shakes first. The drink tasted similar to chocolate milk and there wasn't an overwhelming chalkiness like other protein shakes I've tried. You can add extra water to adjust thickness. Other flavors include mocha, caramel macchiato, vanilla, peanut butter and strawberry.

A day on the Optavia diet

Here's an example of a day's meals on the 5-and-1 Plan. Keep in mind that you would eat every two hours.

  • Golden chocolate chip pancakes
  • Wild strawberry shake
  • Homestyle chick'n noodle soup
  • Honey mustard and onion sticks
  • Salmon and broccoli with lemon, thyme and ginger (lean-and-green meal)
  • Creamy double peanut butter crisp bar

How much does Optavia cost?

Each meal plan contains enough food items for 30 days. Plan prices are monthly based on price after first order, which typically has a discount.

  • Optimal Weight 5-and-1 Plan:  $472 (includes 22 essential fuelings and 1 essential amino acids)
  • Optimal Weight 4-and-2-and-1 Plan:  $475 (includes 17 essential fuelings and 2 essential amino acids)
  • Optimal Health 3-and-3 Plan:  $375 (includes 13 essential fuelings, 2 essential amino acids and 1 whey protein)

What do nutritionists say about Optavia?

I spoke with Dr. Melina B. Jampolis, a physician nutrition specialist and host of the podcast  Practically Healthy by Dr. Melina ,   about the safety of diet programs such as Optavia.

"As a weight loss doctor, I completely understand why people turn to diets like this, as we have to make several hundred food and beverage decisions each day," Jampolis said. "So, trying to 'diet' can quickly lead to decision fatigue and leave people making the wrong choices.

"Most people state that lack of time preparing the right foods is a factor in their diet failure, and eating out is very challenging as portion sizes are generally much larger than needed, and you honestly have no idea what goes into recipes when eating out," Jampolis said.

Diet programs attempt to simplify this process by providing easy-to-make meals with built-in portion control, so you don't need to guess how much fat, protein or fiber you need each day.

However, Jampolis said she is concerned with diet programs that are made up of highly processed foods. "They may not be as naturally satiating as whole foods closer to their natural form, and they certainly are not as healthy," she said. In addition, most diet programs "don't teach people how to navigate their diets on their own, so once they stop ordering the food, they could simply go back to their old ways."

On the other hand, Jampolis said studies show that "meal replacements do help with both weight loss and weight maintenance, so if people want to use this to kick-start their weight loss, they just need to make sure to apply the principles for continued weight loss-weight maintenance. So, perhaps, they could find a healthier meal (with whole grains and vegetables) to replace lunch or dinner on occasion, or have a smoothie or protein bar for breakfast or a snack to build in portion control."

Potential drawbacks

  • You'll need to pay for the diet program and grocery store items for lean-and-green meals.
  • Low-calorie meals can slow metabolism and  cause extreme fatigue .
  • The most common complaints about Optavia on Better Business Bureau include poor customer service and billing issues. Some customers also say they experienced  unexpected weight gain after the program or felt bloated and sick while on it.

Is Optavia for you?

opt2

Optavia has helped people lose weight, but it isn't healthy for everyone. Any diet program can have unintended effects such as triggering disordered eating or yo-yo dieting . Consult with a physician before starting Optavia or any other weight loss program.

You should try Optavia if:

  • You don't mind meal replacements such as protein shakes
  • You're looking to learn how to make easy-to-prepare meals
  • You want a program that gives you access to a community of people also on a weight loss journey

You should seek other weight loss options if:

  • You're looking for fresh or prepackaged meals
  • You don't want to pay for both a weight loss program and grocery store trips
  • You're looking for a way to keep weight off long-term
