Unfortunately, people nowadays do not consider safety as the primary need. As a result, we often face severe disasters. The biggest danger takes place outside our homes when we are on the road. Maintaining safety on roads is for the benefit of everyone. We must follow the signals and use a zebra crossing while moving to a different route. Walking in between vehicles in a hurry or jumping down a bus while it’s moving can cause serious harm.

Even on rail lines, we must be cautious. It is always advisable never to cross a rail line while a train is approaching. Activities focusing on the objectives of NSC are performed including conducting specialized training courses, conferences, seminars, and workshops, conducting consultancy studies like safety audits, hazard evaluation, risk assessment, etc. Not only this several national and international conferences like XIII World Congress (1993) and APOSHO Conferences (1995 and 2016). It also implemented several prestigious projects that are organized by NSC. In the course of more than 50 years of service, it has built technical experts and competence to meet emerging challenges.

The day marks the founding day of the National Safety Council (NSC) which was founded on 4th March 1966, by the Ministry of Labour. The National Safety Council was set up to generate, develop and sustain a voluntary movement on Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) at the national level.

The National Safety Day began to be observed as a national annual event in 1972 taking care of three core areas of the labor community i.e. safety, health, and environment (SHE). The main objective of observing the day is to reduce the rate of industrial accidents and to assure safety through legislation of labor and practical measures in all three core areas.

Every year, National Safety Day is observed on March 4. In India, March 4 also marks the start of the National Safety Week. This year, National Safety Day falls on a Monday.

In 1996, on March 4, the Ministry of Labour and Employment of the Government of India established the National Safety Council as a self-financing non-governing body. In the year 2000, the National Safety Council was established as a public trust under the Bombay Public Trust Act of 1950. In 1972, National Safety Day was announced on the day the National Safety Council was established. Since then, the day has been observed every year.

Significance:

"The National Safety Day/Safety Week Campaign, being spearheaded by the Council since 1971 to mark its Foundation Day (4th March) has significantly contributed to spreading safety awareness in all sectors. For example, students aim to be the top performers in school, athletes want to excel in sports, businesspeople aspire to lead their industries, and actors aim to stand out in their profession. Being number one is an important goal for all of us, and we work hard to achieve it.

However, when it comes to safety, our focus is different. We aim for zero accidents, zero near misses, zero first aid incidents, zero hazards, zero unsafe acts, zero unsafe conditions, and ultimately zero harm. This year’s National Safety Day theme is perfectly aligned with our goal of achieving zero harm and helps us refocus on the safety controls we have implemented in our workplaces.

Over the past two to three years, many of our family members have lost their lives due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We now understand how difficult it is for those families who have lost their loved ones during this pandemic. According to official statistics, nearly 68 lakh people have lost their lives worldwide due to coronavirus. It is time for us to wake up and strengthen our systems to protect our loved ones and achieve our goal of zero harm.

Unfortunately, we have witnessed many industrial accidents recently, including fires and explosions in chemical factories, boiler blasts, gas leaks, falls from heights, chemical exposures, and road accidents. All of these incidents can be avoided by implementing the best safety controls.

“Our Aim Zero Harm” represents a commitment to reducing the number of accidents and injuries in the workplace to zero. The objective of this aim is to create a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.

Industrial safety is of utmost importance, as accidents and injuries can not only harm people but also disrupt business operations, leading to financial losses and causing many families to suffer. Painting, Essay competitions organised on eve of National Safety Day

While the painting competition was conducted for students on road safety and health, the organisers have conducted an essay writing competition for women on domestic safety as part of the 53rd National Safety Day celebrations.

Sangareddy: The National Safety Council and Director of Factories Telangana collectively have organised various competitions for school-going students and women at the Community Centre in BHEL located in RC Puram Mandal on Sunday.

Over 500 students from 8 different schools have participated in the competitions. As many as 52 women have participated in trilingual essay writing competitions. The organisers have also educated the students on various safety measures to be taken in day-to-day life.

The competitions were organized by the Chairman of the National Safety Council, Telangana Chapter & Director Factories, B Rajagopal, Deputy Inspector of Factories, Praveen, and Deputy Inspector of Factories, Venkanna.
