How to Write a Research Proposal in the APA Style

The sixth edition of the “Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association” directs you how to format and structure your research proposal. This is the most common style used for proposal related to the social sciences. A research proposal in APA format should include a title, abstract, main body and references.

General Structure

APA format recommends that you type your proposal with a highly legible 12-point font, such as Times New Roman. It needs to be double-spaced. When you write a new paragraph, indent fives spaces or use the Tab key. Your paper should have a 1-inch margin on all sides. At the top of each page, insert a running head in the header. To format this correctly, write the title of your proposal in the upper left hand side and the page number in the upper right hand side. Your running head is limited to 50 characters, including spaces. If you must shorten your title, select the keywords.

For your research proposal, your title page should include your paper’s title, your name and your university’s name. Other information that may appear on the title page includes submission date, budget period, total funds requested or advisor’s name, depending on your proposal’s audience. APA style recommends that your title is no more than 12 words in length. All text on this page should be double-spaced. When listing names, do not include any titles or degrees. The running head is different on the title page than the rest of your paper. Format your running head so it says “Running head” followed by a colon and your title.

In APA format, your abstract is the second page of your paper. Despite appearing at the beginning of your paper, plan to write your research proposal last. This is a brief summary of your entire paper. In a 150- to 250-word paragraph, state your problem, and propose a solution for it. To properly format this page, center the word “Abstract” without any additional formatting on the first line of the page. Following a double-space, write your paragraph. Do not indent this paragraph. After your summary, indent five spaces and write the word, “Keywords” in italics followed by a colon. Then list keywords related to your proposal.

In-Text Citations

Every sentence that references another person’s work must include an in-text citation. The APA recommends that you use the author-date method. Write the author’s name and the publication year within parentheses at the end of the referencing sentence. For example, “One study found that the most important element in comprehending non-native speech is familiarity with the topic (Gass & Varonis, 1984).”

At the end of your proposal, APA style advises that you create a references page that lists citations for all of your references. Label this page with the word “References” centered on the first line of the page. Then list all the sources used within your proposal in alphabetical order by the author’s last name. For any references that are longer than one line, indent all subsequent lines by five spaces.

When writing references, APA style recommends that you give the author’s last name and then use initials for all other names. For a single author book, write the author’s last name, a comma, first initial and a period. Next, write the publication year in parentheses. Place a period outside the last parenthesis. Then write the title of the book in italics and sentence case, a period, the city, a comma, the state, a colon, the publisher’s name and a period. A reference may look like this:

About the Authors

About the Series Editor

Jennifer Brown Urban, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Family Science and Human Development at Montclair State University, where she also directs the Research on Evaluation and Developmental Systems Science lab.

She is trained as a developmental scientist with specific expertise in youth development and program evaluation. Her scholarship is encapsulated under the umbrella of systems science, including both theoretical approaches and methodologies.

Dr. Urban's most recent research focuses on character development and innovative approaches to program evaluation and planning. She is currently principal investigator on several grant-funded projects. The goals of this work are to build the capacity of youth program practitioners and evaluators to engage in high-quality evaluation of character development programs, to determine the key features of character development programs that promote positive youth development, and to advance the application of character science in multiple contexts to enhance human flourishing across the lifespan.

She uses mixed-method approaches in her own research and has mentored many undergraduate and graduate students in designing and executing applied research projects.

Bradley Matheus van Eeden-Moorefield, PhD, is an associate professor in the Department of Family Science and Human Development at Montclair State University and director of the PhD program.

His research includes a strong social justice commitment to understanding and strengthening marginalized families, with his most recent work focused on stepfamilies headed by same-sex couples. Much of this research focuses on identifying how factors in the social world (e.g., stigma, stereotypes, policy) influence everyday family life and how each influence various indicators of individual (e.g., depression, happiness) and family well-being (stability).

Dr. van Eeden-Moorefield uses various qualitative and quantitative methodologies and has particular expertise in Internet-based methodologies.

He has provided training to various family and childcare practitioners and uses his previous clinical experiences to translate research into practice and practice into research.

The chapters are organized around the choices students need to make, rather than the types of research and issues specific to each type — an important distinguishing feature that sets this book apart from other research methods text…. In the current environment of increasing interdisciplinarity, this text is very useful to students who find themselves coming to social science research from other disciplines, or to students in need of clear guidelines who do not have the time to complete another entire research methods course. — Choice

Urban and van Eeden-Moorefield take the often daunting topic of research methods and make it — dare I say — fun and engaging. Through personal stories and good humor, they demystify the research process and find ways to connect research to everyday life and experiences. This book should be a required supplementary text for every introductory research methods course. —William M. Trochim, PhD Professor, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY

The authors use vivid and engaging examples and masterfully crafted exhibits to create an irresistible proposition to students: "You can do excellent research and enjoy doing it!" They creatively help readers understand and make the choices involved in exemplary research. This book is an invaluable asset for students in psychology and in the social and behavioral sciences more generally. —Richard M. Lerner, PhD Bergstrom Chair in Applied Developmental Science and Director, Institute for Applied Research in Youth Development, Tufts University, Medford, MA

This book will help beginning researchers identify a meaningful and testable research question as well as deal with basic choices in designing their study. The accessible text and a host of tables guide readers through key issues in designing and proposing a research project. —Melvin M. Mark, PhD Professor and Head of Psychology, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park

Detailed Guide: APA Research Proposal Example

Table of Contents

As a college student, essay assignments are the norm. But a research proposal may sound strange– especially if you are a newbie. If that’s the case, an APA research proposal example comes in handy.

In this article, we’ll examine the features of a research proposal. And provide all the information you need to write your first.

What Is A Research Proposal?

A research proposal is a document that outlines the main idea of a research project . The proposal explains why the study needs to be done and how it will benefit society or improve knowledge in the field.

It delineates the methodology of the research you’ve conducted or are about to execute.

What’s The Goal Of A Research Proposal?

A research proposal helps the writer explore a topic in greater detail. It provides an opportunity to identify and analyze relevant evidence, conclude, and offer potential solutions or recommendations.

A research proposal also allows you to demonstrate knowledge of a specific field and create a well-rounded argument considering diverse perspectives.

Sometimes, the purpose of a proposal is to secure funds to support your research.

A research proposal presents a unique insight into a particular subject matter. And make a compelling case for its importance in advancing knowledge.

You should be able to prove that your work will:

  • Fill a knowledge gap on this topic or add to the existing knowledge on the subject
  • Emphasize existing information on the issue

It should also prove that you are capable of contributing meaningfully to the field of study. The best way to prove this is by stating your credentials and academic qualifications. Your study proposal also affirms the academic merit of your ideas.

How Long Should A Proposal Be?

Frankly, the page count of a research proposal isn’t as important as the content it should entail. A master’s or bachelor’s research proposal may be a few pages long. But for a Ph.D. dissertation, it may be more as the research is often meatier.

Person writing on brown wooden table near white ceramic mug

The purpose of a research proposal is to outline any content or element of your research. Don’t leave out details because you are targeting a word or page count.

The Structure Of A Research Proposal

An APA Research Proposal structure isn’t set in stone. But some elements are critical. They are as follows:

Research Paper Title

The research title should embody your paper’s content. While you can still change your title during the project, you must ensure your title explains the whole study in a few words.

In just about 100 words, your abstract should state the question you intend to answer.

Background Significance

This is where you’ll give a background introduction to your topic. It covers issues like why you decided to work on the research, existing debates, etc.

You should also include the relevance of the question you aim to answer and its importance.

Finally, you must state the tool you plan to use while conducting your research.

Literature Review

The literature review lists the sources you plan to rely on for your research and why you are working with those sources.

Research Methods, Design And Schedule

This aspect of your research proposal covers the following topics.

  • Identify if you are doing corrective, experimental, or descriptive research.
  • State the kind of research you want to do. Is it quantitative or qualitative research?
  • What tools will you use to curate data? Observation? Or will you conduct a survey?
  • List all the data collection options available and why they are necessary.

In addition, this aspect of the research proposal should also indicate:

  • Research budget
  • Any form of potential obstacles and how you will resolve them.
  • The timeline of your research

Conclusions

Like the name suggests, this section wraps up the research proposal. It summarizes research proposals and restates your purpose.

Bibliography

Finally, list your sources or the works that contributed to your research. In this case, you need to follow the APA format. You can even annotate your bibliography, indicating how each source will contribute to your study.

APA Research Proposal Format

Now, we’ll briefly analyze what the APA format should look like.

  • 1-inch margins
  • 12-point font Times New Roman
  • An APA running head (limited to 50 characters)
  • Double-spaced
  • References page (following APA guidelines)
  • In-text citations (formatted accordingly to APA guidelines)
  • A title page containing your research title (12 words maximum), your name, and your institution name
  • Abstract (150-200 words)

What To Avoid In APA Research Paper

Some factors can mar your research proposals. APA research papers should be written carefully, avoiding the following mistakes:

1. Using overly technical language that can make it difficult for the reader to understand.

2. Omitting any necessary facts or data may weaken the paper’s credibility and validity.

3. Failing to cite sources accurately could result in plagiarism.

4. Making assumptions without providing evidence to back them up.

5. Overlooking potential ethical issues related to a topic.

6. Ignoring grammar and spelling mistakes.

7. Not organizing ideas logically or presenting them in an unclear manner.

8. Relying too heavily on one source of information when multiple perspectives are needed.

9. Being overly opinionated instead of using objective analysis and reasoning.

APA Research Proposal Example

Emotional well-being and mental health research proposal , introduction.

I propose undertaking a research project into the effects of emotional well-being on mental health. This study investigates how emotional well-being affects one’s ability to cope with and manage mental health. This proposal will analyze current literature, examine personal experiences, and explore various theories. It seeks to gain an understanding of how emotional well-being influences mental health.

Research Methodology

In terms of methodology, I plan to conduct both qualitative and quantitative research. Using these mediums, I will form conclusions regarding the correlation between emotional well-being and mental health.

A survey will be administered online, followed by semi-structured interviews with participants who indicate that they are struggling with their mental health. Furthermore, I will conduct interviews with healthcare professionals.

Personal stories and observations from my experience working with individuals with mental illness will also be incorporated into the data collection process. Additionally, information from relevant academic studies on this topic will be used to inform the interpretation of the results.

The proposed research has theoretical and practical implications for understanding the complex relationship between emotion and mental health.

Theoretically, it could lead to a greater understanding of the mechanisms underlying this relationship. It could also provide insight into the psychological underpinnings of mental illnesses like anxiety or depression.

Moreover, the findings could suggest new strategies for helping those with poor mental health. It will provide them with improved access to support systems and resources. Finally, further exploration of this issue could result in policies geared towards improving emotional well-being implemented at governmental levels.

I anticipate that this study will take approximately 6 months to complete, depending on the availability of interview subjects.

If allowed to conduct this research, I am confident I can produce valid and reliable results. One that will contribute to our collective knowledge about the role of emotion in mental health.

Note: This is a skeletal APA research proposal example. This should only serve as a guide. You need to be as detailed as possible while writing yours.

An APA research proposal example is a document that outlines the basic idea of a researcher’s project.

When writing a research proposal using the APA style, it’s essential to follow the formatting rules the American Psychological Association laid out. This includes providing references in the correct format, such as author name, date, and page number.

How to Write a Research Proposal in APA Format?

What is APA format in research?

The American Psychological Association (APA) style is one of the  citation formats  in research with a set of norms for writing in psychology and related subjects. These standards were outlined in the American Psychological Association’s Publication Manual (APA, 2006). In 1944, the American Psychological Association produced its first version of the Publication Manual for the American Psychological Association, which included its writing style and structure for academic papers. The handbook has undergone six revisions, with the sixth and most recent editions issued in 2009. The APA style refers to the principles established by the American Psychological Association in their manual to provide a standard for journals and scholarly works. APA Referencing guide was developed to improve the precise interpretation of academic and  research papers  published in their journals by minimizing linguistic bias and using clear language. Since then, several colleges and scientific publications have accepted  Academic Writing in APA Style .

APA-Format

Introduction:

A research proposal dissertation describes what you aim to investigate, why it is important, and how you propose to carry out your study. The structure of a research proposal varies depending on the subject. Most proposals, however, will include at least the following elements based on Research proposal service guidelines:

  • Introduction
  • Literature review
  • Research design
  • Reference list

While the components may differ, the general goal remains the same. A research proposal for dissertation acts as a blueprint and roadmap for your research strategy, assisting you in becoming organized and confident in the direction you want to go.

APA Style and the Values of Psychology

According to Robert Madigan and his colleagues,  APA-style papers  serve an important role that is often overlooked. It specifically supports the scientific values and assumptions of psychologists. Many APA style aspects that appear random at first glance make perfect sense in this context. The following are some characteristics of APA-style writing and the scientific values or assumptions they reflect.

There are just a few direct quotes from other researchers.  The phenomena and ideas of psychology are objective and are not dependent on the precise language chosen to describe them by a particular researcher.
Criticism is addressed toward the work of other researchers, not at the researchers themselves.  The goal of scientific study is to make broad conclusions about the world, not to focus on the personalities of individual researchers.
There are several references and citations.  Scientific research is a large-scale collaborative effort involving a large number of researchers.
Empirical research papers are ordered in a precise manner with defined sections.  There is the best method for performing empirical research in psychology (even if this ideal is not always achieved in actual research).
Researchers frequently “hedge” their conclusions, for example, “The findings imply that…”  Scientific knowledge is always provisional and vulnerable to change depending on new empirical findings.

The APA style research proposal will allow you to create a proposal with a consistent style that will persuade the committee to authorize your research. Specific standards are provided in the   APA Referencing guide  for research proposals. Below is the research proposal format APA 7th edition guidelines.

APA Format

  • Margins, Header & Footer

All sides must have a 1-inch margin. The header format is right justified, with the proposal title on the left and the page number on the right. The running header should not be more than 50 characters long; it should begin on the cover page and continue throughout the proposal. If the title is more than 50 characters, reduce it to include the keywords.

  • Fonts, Size & Space

APA style  calls for a serif typeface, ideally Times New Roman. The fond is standard 12 size. Each word must be double-spaced, with a five -space indentation.

The proposal headline will be positioned in the centre, halfway down the page, in the proper format for your title page. The headline is followed by your name and the name of the organization or university.

The abstract appears after the title page. Write the abstract in 250 words or less, and include a statement about the study and methodologies that will be employed.

The introduction is on the next page of the proposal; it comprises the main concept behind the research, the setting of the study, the issue that it will address, and the individuals who will benefit. The section can be up to three pages long.

  • Literature Review

Following the introduction is a brief  review of the literature  you will need to study to gain a thorough understanding of the problem; you must relate the research to similar studies in the field and incorporate a structure that will be followed in the survey about existing knowledge in the area. The section might be as long as 7 pages.

  • Research Methodology

List and briefly explain   Research methodologies  you will use in the research; include everything from data collection to analysis and how each will be justified. According to the criteria, APA research methodology can only have a maximum of 5 pages.

  • Limitations

It is necessary to describe the study’s potential limitations; keep this to half a page.

  • Significance

Limitations are followed by the significance of the research, its tangibility, practicability, and ramifications. The proposal must explain the likely result and what it hopes to achieve in research. The part is typically two pages long.

  • References, Bibliography & Citation

Include a section for every reference used in the proposal’s authoring. The APA proposal format  must have; the author and year must be mentioned when quoting or paraphrasing; and there is no bibliography section in APA format.

Do check for  Research Proposal examples , to know the research proposal template and sample research proposal APA 7th edition format and also how a well-structured proposal are written by our expertise in various domain.

Conclusion

APA style should be viewed as a “genre” of writing that is ideal for presenting psychological research findings, particularly in academic and professional settings. It does not imply “excellent writing” in general. You would not write a literary analysis in APA style for an English class, even if it were based on psychoanalytic notions. Instead, you would write it in Modern Language Association MLA & Vancouver format . And you would not write a newspaper piece in APA style, even if it was about a great advance in behavioural neuroscience.

APA Question

APA does not have a specific format for research proposal papers or outlines.  For some recommendations on how to incorporate APA style into research proposals or outlines, go to  http://rasmussen.libanswers.com/faq/32563 .  Remember to follow all APA rules of formatting by viewing the library's APA research guide at https://guides.westcoastuniversity.edu/apa .

In general, a research paper proposal should be 1 or 2 paragraphs summarizing what your paper is going to be about, why it is important to your profession, who it affects, the effect on society or a community, and what is being done about it.

Cover these same main topic areas when writing an outline.  For examples of how to format an outline, go to  http://rasmussen.libanswers.com/faq/32339 .

If you look at a student research proposal example , you will see their significance in the academic world. Scientists and researchers attempt to analyze a particular subject or topic and then create a meaningful solution for the problem. It’s often a precursor that gives rise to a master thesis example PDF or dissertation proposal sample word for future use.

A typical student research proposal example outline typically includes the following elements:

  • Introduction: An introduction provides the background and highlights the review of the paper.
  • Problem statement: Problem statements address the approach you are going to use to tackle your research.
  • Study purpose statement: Your purpose of study statement gives the reader a deep understanding of what the research will solve.
  • Literature Review: This section is used for discussing what is already known or certain about the project, such as past research.
  • Hypotheses: A hypotheses are the questions that your research plans to address.
  • Methods and Process: You use this section to describe how you plan to prove your hypotheses.
  • Limitations: Like anything in life, there are always limitations, which means it’s wise to share them with your reader when it comes to research.
  • Significance statement: Make sure you let them know why your work is relevant.
  • References: Inclusion of your research sources is critical to establishing the proper measures you took to back up your claims.

Using templates is a critical component of getting your paper right since they offer a comprehensive view of what should go into it. Again, make sure you use the appropriate template for the research at hand. For example, undergraduate students will benefit from looking at an undergraduate research proposal sample . Graduate students will want to use a masters dissertation proposal example , sample dissertation proposal in education , or writing a proposal for your dissertation guidelines and examples PDF .

Paper title

  • Author name
  • Department and university name
  • Course number and name
  • Instructor name
  • Due date of the assignment

research proposal apa template

Write an informative, striking title that summarizes the topic of your paper. Try to keep the title focused and use relevant keywords.

Place the title three or four lines down from the top of the paper. Center align and bold it. Don’t forget to use title case capitalization (capitalize the first letter of each word, except small words such as articles and short prepositions).

Write the author’s name under the paper title (leave a blank line in between). Give their full names (first name, middle initial(s) and last name), but don’t include titles (Dr., Prof.) or degrees (Ph.D., MSc).

Multiple authors on the title page

List the authors in order of their contribution. If there are two authors, separate their names with the word “and”, like this:

If there are more than two authors, separate their names with a comma. Only write “and” before the last author, like this:

Write the author’s affiliation on the next line under the author names. Students should specify the department and institution where they’re attending school. Professional researchers should specify the department and institution where they conducted their research.

Multiple authors with different affiliations

Use superscript numbers on the author line to indicate which institution they’re affiliated with. Don’t use superscript numbers if all authors are affiliated with the same institution (and department).

Prevent plagiarism. Run a free check.

On a student title page, provide information about the course. List the following information on separate (double spaced) lines under the author’s affiliation:

  • Instructor(s)
  • Assignment’s due date

For professional papers, you may include an author note. This note may contain the author’s ORCID iD, affiliation changes, disclosures of conflicts of interest, brief acknowledgments, and contact information (in that specific order). Present this information in separate paragraphs.

Place the author note on the bottom half of the page. Center the label “Author note” and apply bold styling. The paragraphs in the author note are left-aligned. The first line of each new paragraph is indented.

For more information about formatting the author note, see section 2.7 of the APA Publication Manual.

For a student title page, the page header consists of just a page number in the top-right corner. There is no need for a running head (as was the case in APA 6th edition).

A professional title page does have a running head. The running head is an abbreviated version of the paper title in all capital letters. The maximum length is 50 characters (counting spaces).

Images are not usually included on an APA title page, and APA does not provide any guidelines for doing so. It’s usually viewed as unprofessional to include an image, since the title page is there to provide information, not for decoration.

If you do decide to include an image on your title page, make sure to check whether you need permission from the creator of the image. Include a note directly underneath the image acknowledging where it comes from, beginning with the word “ Note .” (italicized and followed by a period):

  • If you found the image online or in another source, include a citation and copyright attribution .
  • If it’s an image you created yourself (e.g., a photograph you took, an infographic you designed), explain this (e.g., “Photograph taken by the author.”).

Don’t give the image a label, title, or number. Only images within the text itself are labeled as figures .

The purpose of this course is to document significant evidences that program outcomes have been met and provide student evidence of experiences available to current and prospective employers.

Course Assignment

No details available.

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations , the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will complete the Video Discussion: Class Introductions in a visual presentation format. The visual presentation must include recorded presentation and will have a maximum time limit of 5 minutes. The student will be creative with the presentations. The student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 150 words.

The purpose of the Proposal Paper Assignment is for the student to select an area of focus, service, or argument. The student must choose one option to focus on. Once the student has chosen his/her focus, he/she may select a topic within that focus. The student may not switch focus nor topic after the assigned Module: Week. The student should select the focus and topic he/she is most interested in so that he/she can be fully engaged with the topic. The student will use the template provided to complete the Proposal Assignment. Then, the student will receive peer feedback. (CLO: A, B, C, D)

Once the student has chosen a topic and a focus, he/she will begin researching that topic more thoroughly. All research must be from primary sources that are scholarly and peer-reviewed. The student is to find a minimum of 10 scholarly sources and 2 scholarly biblical sources (not including the Bible) about the chosen topic. Sources must prompt or align (support) with the student’s opinion as well as oppose the opinion. The sources the student chooses must broaden the depth of knowledge and challenge personal opinion or stance on the need or the argument. The student will use the template provided in Canvas to complete the Annotated Bibliography Assignment. (CLO: A, B, C, D)

By this point, the student should have completed an in-depth reading of his/her sources and extracted data, quotes, and paraphrases that will be used in the outline. The 3-tier outline provides an organized method for keeping track of the source information that matches the details/notes being collected. The purpose of this 3-tier outline is for the student to plan out the Aviation Capstone Paper, think through the layout, and formulate the thesis statement incorporating a minimum of 2 lenses with two subheadings of support and oppose the need or the issue. Finally, the student will begin to weave a Biblical worldview into the topic of the paper. A 3-tier outline has 3 levels of information. The student must utilize the 3-Tier Outline Template provided in Canvas. Then, the student will receive peer feedback. (CLO: A, B, C, D)

The purpose of the Implementation Site Information Assignment is for the student to identify a final implementation site and to confirm a mentor. Utilizing the Implementation Site Information Template , the student will select an implementation site and mentor. The student must be sure to review the implementation information on the template to ensure he/she can fulfill the required expectations at the implementation site. The questions within the Implementation Site Information Template are designed to help the student think through the implementation in terms of integrating the thesis. The questions are also designed to help the student think through the specific details of the implementation itself. Signatures are acknowledging the validity of the substance of the student’s answers to questions. This means that all persons signing the document need to be able to read the questions and answers before signing. (CLO: G)

The Aviation Capstone Peer Review involves researching and writing a 10–12-page paper about the topic chosen: developing a service that addresses a need or developing an argument that addresses an issue. Then, the student will receive peer feedback. See Aviation Capstone Paper in Canvas for assignment description. A template is provided called Aviation Capstone Template and should be used to ensure proper APA formatting. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H)

The purpose of this assignment is for the student to document the 24-hour implementation experience. The student must use the Implementation Site Daily Log Form provided in Canvas. It will be important for the student’s presentation that he/she records these events daily. This way the student will obtain the most accurate record of his/her tasks and reflections. The student may use one log sheet each day while at the implementation site or the student may combine the entire experience into one log. Log sheet(s) must be filled out completely and thoroughly. They must demonstrate thoughtfulness and reflection in content. (CLO: A, B, C, D)

The mentor interview is an important component of the student’s implementation. This is an opportunity for the student to talk about his/her thesis topic and conclusions with an expert in the aviation field. The goal of this interview should be for the student to use his/her mentor’s expertise to speak to the conclusions of his/her thesis and to integrate the conclusion with the implementation itself. The student should utilize the Mentor Interview and Reflection Paper Template in Canvas. (CLO: A, B, C, D)

Utilizing the peer-review feedback from the Proposal Paper, 3-Tier Outline, Initial Draft of Aviation Capstone Paper, and the many other elements of the Aviation Capstone Project, the student will complete the final draft of the Aviation Capstone Paper. The student must utilize the Aviation Capstone Template in Canvas to ensure proper APA formatting.

The Aviation Capstone involves researching and writing a 10–12-page paper about the topic chosen: developing a service that addresses a need or developing an argument that addresses an issue. Once a topic has been established, it will take research to establish the service or position being addressed.

An Aviation Capstone Paper, also known as a thesis paper, starts with a question addressing a topic, gives informative details regarding that topic, integrates a biblical worldview into the topic, weaves an implementation correlating to the thesis, and draws a conclusion summarizing a solution or stance. Throughout the research, the student will clearly identify, understand, evaluate, and construct a conclusion either addressing a need or formulating a stance (argument) on an issue. The student is required to look through a minimum of 2 different lenses that address the topic of study. These lenses can be from an array of viewpoints; moral, ethical, economical, scientific, historical, etc., but the final lens must be from the biblical perspective, integrating biblical worldviews into the capstone. A template is provided in Canvas called Aviation Capstone Template and should be used to ensure proper APA formatting. References quoted in the body of the paper should be listed on a Reference page.

A minimum of 24 in-text citations must be used to support the contents of your paper. Cite works according to the APA format. The student must have at minimum 10 scholarly sources and 2 scholarly Biblical sources. The student may not include the Bible as part of the 12 minimum sources. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H)

While at the Implementation Site, the student must have a mentor who is supervising and guiding the experience. To gain insight into how the implementation is progressing, the student must be sure to provide the Mentor Evaluation Form to his/her mentor at the end of the implementation period. The purpose of this form is to provide the student and the professor feedback regarding student performance during the implementation week. Once the form is complete, including signatures, the student must to upload the completed Mentor Evaluation Form to the assignment page. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H)

The student presentation should incorporate all aspects of thinking on the topic chosen: an examination of Scripture, research, discussions, and conclusions based on knowledge, experience, and reflection of efforts. A Biblical worldview should be intrinsically and purposefully woven throughout the entire presentation. The presentation should demonstrate mastery of thesis, content, implementation, and reflection of the Aviation Capstone Project. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H)

Using the many course outcomes discussed within each Module: Week, as well as the required reading How to Win Friends and Influence People , in 500–750 words (excluding Title and Reference pages), the student will reflect on what he/she has learned in this course and how this course has fostered his/her academic, professional, and personal growth. The Reflective Essay Assignment must include at least 3 citations of the Bible and at least 3 citations of How to Win Friends and Influence People , for a total of at least 6 in-text citations in current APA format. (CLO: C, D, E, G, H)
