Laura Haynes

I had emergency surgery and was very new to hospital settings. I gave a LOT of thought before giving this review. The surgeons were professional, human, and kept us informed of what was taking place and why. The nurses I would say as a whole were overwhelmed/worked. After each shift they went over new duties with incoming nurses but once they were left to work on their own there were times my family had to go over medications or other things with them because more than once a medication was canceled but not put in system. Scary they still tried to give it to me. I think the thing that worried me most was the cleanliness. I am not a clean Freak but that being said I had open spine surgery and knew germs were a concern. After three + days of trash bends over flowing, my husband cleaning toilets and my daughter not being able to find me a clean gown - which all were told to staff and visible- We had a 70+ maintenance lady come in and do her best to clean my room. I felt so bad for her. After this, as staff came in it was stated that family was there 24 hours -my son was taking care of me at night - and all of a sudden trash binds were emptied and people came in daily to ask how service was. I kept thinking how blessed I am but also how sad that this is where we are.

About 3.5 weeks ago I was taken to the Children’s Psychiatric Facility (adolescent unit). I couldn’t thank the staff over there enough. They made me feel safe, cared for, and actually worth something. For day nurses, Latrice was my absolute favorite. She made me feel like I could get through anything and everything. For the night nurses, Tucker and Matt were such an incredible duo. I couldn’t thank them enough for what they did for me. The therapists over in the adolescent unit were incredible. A big thank you to Melissa. She is everything you could ever ask for in a therapist. Always made me feel calm and consoled me when I wasn’t discharged when I wanted to be. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all.

Excellent hospital for low- intervention, natural childbirth. The nurses are very supportive, and the certified nurse midwives that deliver at the hospital are amazing. They made me feel very empowered and safe during my labor. The big, jetted tubs in the delivery rooms make labor easy and comfortable. The nurses are very supportive of breastfeeding and skin to skin contact with your newborn. Birthing at Research Medical Center is beautiful!

Had a baby via c section on 8/29. The anesthesiologist listened to all of my concerns from previous experiences and made a plan specifically for me! All of my nurses were so wonderful and took amazing care of me and baby! They were so kind and helpful!

I was very worried when I went in. I lost my health insurance a few months ago and although I was not feeling well, I was more afraid of amassing a huge medical bill. Everyone was attentive and kind and took care of me even though I explained I couldn't pay the full amount. They treated me with respect and took time to listen to me and plan the right medical tests to determine my issue. Thank you!

To ease any concerns about the financial part of your healthcare, we hope the following billing information will help you better understand the charges you will incur as a patient.

Health Insurance

As a courtesy to you, when complete insurance billing information is provided at the time of services, we will submit a claim to your health insurance. If you have health insurance, we ask that you sign a form assigning benefits to the hospital. This process authorizes your insurance company to send payments to Providence. If you didn’t have the necessary insurance information when you registered, please contact Patient Accounting at  816-943-4539  with this information as soon as possible. We expect to receive insurance payment within 45 days of the claim being submitted. Since your insurance policy is a contract between you and your insurance company, it is your responsibility to ensure that your insurance company pays your claim in a timely manner.

Pre-Certification

Many health insurance companies now require pre-admission certification, pre-authorization, or a second medical opinion before they will cover your inpatient admission and/or outpatient treatment at a hospital. It is your responsibility to see that these requirements are met prior to your treatment.

Providence Cashier

The Providence Cashier is conveniently located on the second floor of Providence around the corner from the Chapel and Main Lobby. Hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Collection Policy

Payment in full is due upon receipt of the statement indicating that the balance is your responsibility. If the balance cannot be paid in full, it can be paid by three equal payments if you contact us at   816-943-4539

The hospital has partnered with The Midland Group to provide affordable payment options for you. This program offers reasonable monthly payments, no approval process, no penalty for pre-payment, and no effect on your credit report.

The hospital has a financial assistance policy for which you may qualify. The income guidelines are based on Federal Poverty Limits. If your income is less than the limit for your family size, you may qualify for partial to full forgiveness of your hospital bill.

Most people have some form of hospital insurance. Providence will accept your insurance only if we can verify that your policy is in force and that the benefits are assigned to the hospital. When your insurance has been verified you will be expected to pay any deductible and/or co-insurance. We urge you to pay any deductible due within 30 days of service on inpatient accounts and at the time of service on outpatient accounts. We accept most major credit cards as well as cash or check.

Collection of accounts guidelines allow for delinquent accounts to be placed for recovery with a professional collection agency or attorney.

Emergency Room Patients

Medicare, Medicaid, Workmen’s Compensation and verified insurance claims will be filed by the hospital for patients accessing emergency services. All balances will be due, in full, after insurance pays, or at the end of 90 days, whichever occurs first.

Man, 75, confesses to killing wife in hospital because he couldn't afford her care, court documents say

Updated on: May 7, 2024 / 7:35 AM EDT / CBS/AP

Independence, Mo. — A Kansas City-area man who's charged with killing his hospitalized wife told police he couldn't take care of her or afford her medical bills, court records say.

Ronnie Wiggs made his first appearance Monday on a second-degree murder charge and was referred to the public defender's office. A hearing was set for Thursday to review his $250,000 bond.

A phone message that was left with the public defender's office wasn't immediately returned.

His wife was getting a new port for her dialysis when staff at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence called a "code blue" Friday because she was unresponsive.

Staff managed to get her pulse back, but they determined she was brain dead and made preparations to harvest her organs, according to the probable cause statement. His wife died Saturday.

After the attack, Wiggs left the hospital. But the statement said the woman's son brought Wiggs back to see her and he confessed. Staff heard him say, "I did it, I killed her, I choked her," according to the statement.

CBS Kansas City, Mo. affiliate KCTV says a witness pointed out injuries on the victim's neck that seemed suspicious, according to the court document. The victim also suffered a fresh wound in the middle of her throat.

He then was arrested and told a detective that he covered his wife's nose and mouth to keep her from screaming, the statement said. He said he was depressed and couldn't handle the caregiving and bills.

He said he also attempted to kill his wife while she was at a rehabilitation facility, but she woke up and told him not do that again, the statement said. He said he was going to try to kill his wife another time while she was hospitalized, but he didn't get the chance because she was hooked up to several monitors.
