October features new Field Research Tasks and Rewards for players to earn in Pokémon Go . These count as daily tasks for players to complete. Each day the player completes one, they will earn a stamp. Once the player collects all 7 stamps, they will be rewarded with a Research Breakthrough reward. This will provide players with items, XP, and the chance to encounter Yamask, the Ghost-type Pokemon that originates from the Unova region. October is the spooky season, meaning Pokémon Go is going above in beyond to celebrate Ghost-type Pokemon.

This month is introducing a Halloween event in Pokémon Go with new tasks, Pokemon, and a new Costumed Pikachu. The list of Field Research Tasks can also provide players with a chance for rare encounters. This includes Pokemon like Dratini, which can be found if the player catches a Dragon-type Pokemon. Although, finding these specific Field Research Tasks can be time-consuming since which Field Research Task the player obtains from spinning a PokeStop is completely random. Players will need to throw away their tasks and spin another one for a chance for a new task. While players can hold three tasks at a time, players should aim to collect at least one stamp per day.

Each stamp is marked with the date that the player completed the task. This is the complete list of all active Field Research Tasks for October. With Yamask being the Research Breakthrough reward, players can grind for candy to help them find and catch Runerigus in Pokémon GO . This will remain the same until November begins.

There's also a chance for players to encounter a Shiny version of a Pokemon during one of these encounters. It's incredibly rare, with a chance of 1/500 chance of finding one. New Field Research Tasks are available at the start of each month in Pokémon GO .

Research Breakthrough

From Friday, October 1, 2021 , at 1:00 p.m. to  Monday, November 1, 2021 , at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7), you’ll encounter Yamask in Research Breakthrough encounters.  Yamask can be shiny ! Yamask is only ever seen at Halloween, so be sure to get your weekly breakthrough to catch this elusive Pokémon.

Pokemon Go Field Research tasks & rewards for August 2024

If you’re looking for a roundup of all the Pokemon Go Field Research tasks in August 2024, we’ve broken them down into categories, alongside details of the Research Breakthrough rewards you can earn.

Field Research is a long-running feature in Pokemon Go that gives Trainers a variety of tasks to complete to earn rewards. Completing seven tasks over seven days will result in a Research Breakthrough, which is a guaranteed encounter with a desirable Pokemon.

These Field Research tasks incorporate various elements of gameplay. Some will ask you to catch different types of Pokemon, others require you to take part in Raid Battles , and a few will task you with earning Candies or Hearts with your Buddy .

For August 2024, Trainers can earn an encounter with Hisuian Growlithe, Larvitar, Audino, Axew, Furfrou, and Jangmo-o as a Research Breakthrough. These are quite rare creatures in Pokemon Go, so it’s worth catching as many as possible during the Shared Skies season festivities. 

Completing the following tasks will get you one of the rewards listed in the right column . If there are multiple potential rewards, you’ll be given one of them at random.

What is Field Research in Pokemon Go?

Field Research is a series of tasks that are obtained by spinning a PokeStop or Gym . Players looking to rack up rewards will have to travel as they are only able to complete one task a day for each location.

Each task contains an objective, and trainers are given a reward for achieving it. Rewards can range from items like Poke Balls to encounters with specific Pokemon, which you can see in the tables above.

How do I unlock a Research Breakthrough?

To unlock a Research Breakthrough and get an encounter with the current month’s Pokemon, you’ll need to complete one Field Research task every day for seven days . The good news is they don’t have to be consecutive days, so you could do this over the space of a month if you wanted to.

Once you’ve completed a task, make sure you claim the reward on the Field Research progress page to earn a stamp. You can only earn one stamp per day, but completed tasks can be saved up and claimed at a later date to earn a stamp.

Once seven stamps have been earned, you can claim your Research Breakthrough reward by opening the package that appears at the top of the Field Research progress page.

How to get a Research Breakthrough in Pokemon Go

There are six potential Research Breakthrough encounters in August: Hisuian Growlithe, Larvitar, Audino, Axew, Furfrou, and Jangmo-o. They will be rewarded randomly, so you can’t predict which Pokemon you’ll get.

You’ll need to earn your seventh Field Research stamp and claim your big reward before the end of the season if you want to get one of these Pokemon, as a different set of rewards could take over then.

If you earn a stamp every day in August, you’ll be able to earn up to four Research Breakthroughs, meaning you’ll get the chance to catch four of these Pokemon, which is a great way to stock up on Candy.

Is there a Shiny Research Breakthrough in Pokemon Go?

According to the official season hub for Pokemon Go’s Shared Skies season, all of the Pokemon listed as Research Breakthrough rewards are available to get in Shiny forms, making them perfect targets for players who value rare and hard-to-get ‘mons.

Just like most species, Pokemon encounters from Field Research and Breakthrough rewards have a Shiny rate of around 1 in 450 . While not the best odds, it’s still better than most of the mainline RPGs.

If you want to increase your chances of finding a Shiny variation, make sure you don’t miss a single day of Field Research, as you’ll be able to get up to four Research Breakthrough encounters this way.

On Oct. 1, 2021, the Pokémon Go ’s Research Breakthrough Reward for completing a week’s worth of stamps changed to Yamask , the ghost-type Pokémon from the Unova region.

You can complete Pokémon Go Field Research Tasks for Pokémon encounters, items, and Stardust . Finishing the individual tasks also rewards sweet stuff. Rare spawns like Aerodactyl can be rewards for tasks, as well as important loot like Rare Candy or Golden Razz Berries .

Here’s a complete list of the current Field Research Tasks and the rewards, as of Oct. 1, 2021.

Pokémon Go October 2021 Field Research and rewards

Spinning PokéStops gives players a Field Research Task to complete. Each stop gives a task once a day, and players can hold up to three tasks at once.

Upon completing a task, players will get a stamp marked with the date. After getting seven stamps from seven different days, players encounter a special Pokémon, as well as get Stardust, items , and some XP as rewards.

Players can turn in multiple tasks a day but will only receive one stamp for the first task they complete that day. After completing a task, you can wait to turn it in, if you want to save the stamp for another day.

Pokemon GO October Field Research: Tasks, encounters, rewards, and more

A new month has arrived in Pokemon GO , and with it comes new Field Research excitement for the game's fans.

The Season of Light continues, and trainers will have plenty to do while carrying out research tasks for Professor Willow. They will certainly be compensated for their time.

Beginning October 1, 2022, and lasting until October 31, 2022, new Field Research tasks will be available to undertake, complete with their own unique rewards .

Upon completing research breakthroughs, players may encounter the oft-obscure Shedinja. For the first time, the creature's shiny form will also be available, which will undoubtedly delight shiny hunters. However, the Shed Pokemon is only the tip of the figurative iceberg for what awaits Pokemon GO lovers this month.

What to expect from Pokemon GO's Field Research in October 2022

Like the previous months of the year, October's Field Research tasks in Pokemon GO are divided into different categories.

Research quests are divided between catching Pokemon, throwing Pokeballs, battling in PvP/PvE arenas , interactions with your buddy and in-game friends, and miscellaneous tasks that don't fit into a given category.

While Shedinja is the main reason why trainers want to complete research breakthroughs in Pokemon GO, those who complete one will also receive a free incense item. This incense acquisition is limited to one per month, but it's undoubtedly a welcome addition.

It's clear from the rewards that Pokemon GO's Field Research in October is focused on Ghost-type species, which is to be expected with Halloween festivities on the horizon.

Providing access to starter Pokemon is always a plus. It provides an avenue to evolve and even Mega Evolve certain creatures , such as Charizard and Blastoise.

Additionally, Pokemon GO fans hoping to find shinies from their research won't be disappointed. The only Pokemon encounters lacking a shiny in this round of research tasks are Gloom, Haunter, Stunfisk, and Ariados. Every other monster received through tasks can appear in its shiny form, providing extra incentive to seek them out.

October's Field Research tasks are already live in Pokemon GO, so it's time for players to stock up on Pokeballs and head out to Pokestops for a few spins. They should make sure to gather their best teams for raids and the Pokemon GO Battle League .

It's going to be a hectic month full of work for dedicated trainers, but few can argue with the results of their efforts.

Starting October 2023, Trainers will be able to purchase the Ticket of Treats, which grants spook-tacular Timed Research opportunities throughout the month. With the Ticket of Treats, a new Timed Research will unlock each Thursday in October, and you will have until the end of the month to complete them all. Each Timed Research will give you an opportunity to earn premium items and event-themed encounters to prepare for in-game events!

While each week’s Timed Research is paired with a specific event, you’re free to complete the Timed Research tasks and claim their rewards at any point until October 31, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. local time.

Trainers may purchase the Ticket of Treats until October 29, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. local time, but purchasing it earlier will give you more opportunities to take advantage of the additional bonuses included in the Ticket of Treats!

Sunday, October 1, 2023, at 12:00 a.m. to Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. local time.

For US$5.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll be able to access bonuses and a total of four ticket-exclusive Timed Research opportunities.

Please note that Timed Research expires. The tasks associated with each Timed Research must be completed and their rewards must be claimed before Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. local time.

Trainers will be able to purchase and gift tickets to any of their Pokémon GO friends that they have achieved a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher with. Please note that purchases—including those made for other Trainers—are non-refundable (subject to applicable law and the exceptions set forth in the Terms of Service). Tickets cannot be purchased with PokéCoins.

The Ticket of Treats will only be available in the in-game shop until October 29, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. local time.
