N2 - This dissertation addresses the management of inventory systems. The thesis starts with an exposition on mathematical models that can be used in inventory theory. Then we deal with some information issues related to the demand process. Namely, how to control products that have intermittent demand. Moreover, we investigated the impact of data collection on the customer performance. Next, we investigated to what extend multiple-sourcing can lead to improvements of the inventory system. Finally two demand management strategies are investigated for smoothing demand. The first re-routes large customer orders to alternative stockpoint, whereas the second strategy splits a customer order in a time-phased delivery scheme.

This paper, essentially a case study, begins by delving into the historical background concerning the entrepreneur and founders’ mindset of a cultural enterprise like the Mahua Art Gallery; particularly how it came into existence. It then briefs on the art industry and also examines organizational aspects and related issues in a cultural enterprise of this genre. It touches upon significant aspects of Mahua’s journey from nascence to the current state it is in. Discussions on how management initiatives have driven its recent adoption of technology are also present. Finally the paper concludes with a look into information technology and online social networks. Social media which this organization has embraced and potential benefits that accrue from its adoption are also discussed. This case is based on interviews conducted with the founders of Mahua Art Gallery and hence possesses an authentic stamp.

Cet article s'interesse a la pertinence du financement public de l'enseignement superieur au regard de son efficacite en terme d'equite d'acces a la mobilite internationale. IL propose une reflexion issue d'une analyse secondaire des donnees suisses, et plus particulierement genevoises, a l'epreuve du modele de cheque-etude. Apres avoir replace la question de la pertinence d'un financement public de l'enseignement superieur dans un contexte d'internationalisation, nous nous interessons a sa legitime economique ainsi qu'a ses modalite. Nous decrivons ensuite le modele de cheque-etude et questionnons sa pertinence en terme d'equite d'acces a l'enseignement superieur.
