One of the biggest disadvantages of going on holiday with friends is that at some point you will likely disagree on what exactly you want to do.

You might want to see different attractions, do different activities, or even travel at different speeds.

3. Isolation

You may isolate yourself with your best friend which means you miss out on meeting some awesome people.

Having conversations with the locals and other random people is something that everyone should do while travelling.

But by having another person with you, you may find yourself just talking to your friend and not making an effort to talk to anyone else.

Your plans might change and you just want to travel to a different part of the country while your friend might want to stay. This is not necessarily a bad thing.

You might have a friend that you do everything with, and who is on exactly the same wavelength as you, but who has different dietary requirements to you. This can lead to problems on the road.

In fact, certain dietary requirements might alter where you can eat and even where you can travel to at all.

Say one of you is vegetarian, and one of you is lactose intolerant. Either one of those dietary requirements might close off a part of the world to you, due to the culinary norms of some countries.

It’s almost impossible to avoid meat or fish in some rural areas of the world, and it’s hard to avoid both meat AND dairy in some countries such as Albania , for example.

If you and those you’re travelling with have more than one set of dietary needs, then you might find that your options for where to go on holiday with friends are more limited.

Luckily, more and more dietary options are becoming available around the world, especially in major cities.

But if even one member of your party has specific dietary requirements, it might take some extra planning ahead of time, and may even mean you miss out on trying all the local cuisine.

Sometimes having rich friends is great. Sometimes it can cause a lot of tension in a group.

This can happen if your holiday gang ends up visiting expensive sites, dining at high-end restaurants, or staying in five-star hotels.

Not everyone can afford to throw as much money around, and sometimes not everyone can speak up against it with a cheaper alternative. It’s hard when it feels like you might “spoil the fun.”

It can be embarrassing to trip up linguistically, especially if you need their help! Practicing new languages while travelling with friends will help you get by better.

2. Discuss & set out personal boundaries

Right from the outset, especially if you’re travelling with friends for the first time, it can be a good idea to set some personal boundaries. Sometimes, it can actually be essential.

It’s a lot harder to break a habit that’s already being formed than to set it straight before it starts.

If you’re travelling together, a lot of the time you’re sort-of living together. Plenty of people who move in with friends find out that they have habits or practices that are wildly different from them.

So setting up some guidelines or rules beforehand can save everyone from potential future arguments or embarrassment.

Even working out a “safe word” or phrase that implies that you feel unsafe or that you need some space – but without having to say it out loud – can sometimes be a good idea.

I find that when you’re travelling with friends, there’s sometimes a tendency for everyone to want to do everything.

Everyone wants to be the navigator, everyone wants to drive, everyone wants to lead the group. If you know that someone is better qualified, let them take that role if they want it!

It can be infuriating to find yourselves being led into the unknown by an enthusiastic amateur when you happen to be travelling with a trained hiker/tracker, for example.

If someone has the skills, let them pay the bills as it were. Your talents will come into play at some point on your journey, don’t worry!

When I (Emily) went backpacking with my friends in the Cascades, we split up carrying things like tent pieces, cooking supplies, and safety equipment.

Is it Better to Travel with Friends or with Parents?

Holidays are events that virtually everyone looks forward to – particularly the ones in summer when the weather is favorable. Holidays come along with a lot of fun activities, but many young people believe that holidays spent with friends are better than those spent with family.

Writing about this topic wouldn’t be a first of its kind, as several articles, particularly in the education niche, have covered this topic. Actually it’s a popular essay topic among youth.

While a number of people prefer spending their holidays on their own, flying solo, this post is not targeted at them. This post focuses on addressing the common contention among students, especially teenagers, as to whether holidays are best spent with family or friends. Obviously, most will go for spending their holidays with friends since they pretty much see their parents daily and would prefer a fun summer away from their routine, with their friends.

This post would compare a typical travel experience with parents, then with friends and in the end, conclude from a neutral point of view, which is better.

A Travel Experience with Parents.

A Travel Experience with Friends.

Even before  embarking on the trip , the planning process for the trip itself is fun and you get to do that together with your friends. Making a list of fun events, writing about places to visit, things to be done, shopping for items, and the communication back and forth itself makes up half the fun of the whole trip, because of the excitement it builds.

Traveling with friends is a good way to actually have fun without any form of distractions. Most of the times spent with friends are either during work periods or when school is in session. Traveling or going away on a vacation really allows you to have all the fun you want to without having to worry about having to study, complete an assignment or a task at work. So apart from having fun, you get to do away with the everyday stress of school and work.

On  teenage holidays without parents , a lot more than fun memories are shared. Traveling with friends pushes you to be independent and exposes you to a whole new set of skills you may not have even known you had. Not only would you be having new experiences with the people and culture of your destination – the experiences of your friends backed up with their various cultures would add a whole new spice to the trip.

Lots of experts recommend that kids and teenagers are allowed to spend time with their friends, away from home, as it aids their development. On a trip with a couple of friends, you get to cross off a couple of things from your bucket list. Spending time away from your parents at a young age will drive you to try out new things you have always wanted to try, and who can better drive you to explore and try out new things than your friends?

Tip : Not only would you be having new experiences with the people and culture of your destination – the experiences of your friends backed up with their various cultures would add a whole new spice to the trip. Both experiences could also be fun depending on the context, so, in the end, it all boils down to interest and what every teenager or individual expects in a travel experience.

Welcome home! Now that you’re back from your trip, you’d like to share it with others in a travel essay. You’re a good writer and a good editor of your work, but you’ve never tried travel writing before. As your potential reader, I have some advice and some requests for you as you write your travel experience essay.

Trip Essays: What to Avoid

Please don’t tell me everything about your trip. I don’t want to know your travel schedule or the names of all the castles or restaurants you visited. I don’t care about the plane trip that got you there (unless, of course, that trip is the story).

I have a friend who, when I return from a trip, never asks me, “How was your trip?” She knows that I would give her a long, rambling answer: “… and then … and then … and then.” So instead, she says, “Tell me about one thing that really stood out for you.” That’s what I’d like you to do in this travel essay you’re writing.

The Power of Compelling Scenes

One or two “snapshots” are enough—but make them great. Many good writers jump right into the middle of their account with a vivid written “snapshot” of an important scene. Then, having aroused their readers’ interest or curiosity, they fill in the story or background. I think this technique works great for travel writing; at least, I would rather enjoy a vivid snapshot than read through a day-to-day summary of somebody’s travel journal.

Write About a Trip Using Vivid Descriptions

Take your time. Tell a story. So what if you saw things that were “incredible,” did things that were “amazing,” observed actions that you thought “weird”? These words don’t mean anything to me unless you show me, in a story or a vivid description, the experience that made you want to use those adjectives.

I’d like to see the place, the people, or the journey through your eyes, not someone else’s. Please don’t rewrite someone else’s account of visiting the place. Please don’t try to imitate a travel guide or travelogue or someone’s blog or Facebook entry. You are not writing a real travel essay unless you are describing, as clearly and honestly as possible, yourself in the place you visited. What did you see, hear, taste, say? Don’t worry if your “take” on your experience doesn’t match what everyone else says about it. (I’ve already read what THEY have to say.)

The Importance of Self-Editing Your Trip Essay

Don’t give me your first draft to read. Instead, set it aside and then reread it. Reread it again. Where might I need more explanation? What parts of your account are likely to confuse me? (After all, I wasn’t there.) Where might you be wasting my time by repeating or rambling on about something you’ve already told me?

Make me feel, make me laugh, help me learn something. But don’t overdo it: Please don’t preach to me about broadening my horizons or understanding other cultures. Instead, let me in on your feelings, your change of heart and mind, even your fear and uncertainty, as you confronted something you’d never experienced before. If you can, surprise me with something I didn’t know or couldn’t have suspected.

Traveling with a friend, even traveling with your best friend means you have to make compromises . And again, it doesn’t necessarily need to be a bad thing to make compromises. Remember, it also means you will try new things.

But I do know that for me, the ultimate freedom of traveling alone, is why I prefer to travel alone.

Which option is better: traveling by yourself or with friends? This essay answers the question! It focuses on the benefits and drawbacks of solo travel.

Introduction

• Pros & Cons of Solo Travel

Different people have different opinions regarding their travel arrangements. Whereas there are individuals who prefer to travel alone, on the other hand, others are more comfortable travelling in a group. Regardless of the option arrived at there are various advantages and disadvantages associated with either of the two options.

There is need therefore to explore whether it is better to travel alone or with a tour group. The essay shall endeavor to compare and contrast travelling alone with travelling in a group and uncover the benefits and drawbacks associated with both of these two forms of travelling.

Travelling Alone or in a Group: Pros & Cons

Traveling in a group allows one to meet new friends and exchange experiences. This helps to add fun to travelling because of the many new ideas that the individual members of the group comes with. In addition, diversity in terms of the experiences of the travelers enables one to appreciate their unique cultural heritage.

On the other hand, travelling in a group denies one the chance of being alone because you are always surrounded by other people. As such, one cannot avoid annoying travelers and you have to learn how to deal with them. In contrast, traveling alone gives one the freedom to explore new experiences without restrictions. As such, can do what pleases him/her without fear that others will criticize him/her.

Travelling in a group also limits one’s chances of meeting new people because it is far much easier to approach an individual as opposed to a group. Travelling alone enables one to become flexible in terms of for example how you spend your day, or what you eat. However, there is the danger of boredom and you have no one to share your experiences with.

Travelling in a group is also beneficial in that it allows you to lower your cost of travelling. This is because there is the possibility of sharing such facilities as the guest room, splitting food and drinks bills, and travelling costs as well. For example, it is much cheaper for a group of 5 travelers to split the traveling cost of hiring a cab, as opposed o a single traveler who would be expected to pay a similar amount for the same distance.

On the other hand, travelling in a group could result in an issue of conflict when it comes to the issue of offsetting bills. For example, some members of the group may decline to pay the stipulated amount of money because in their opinion, they have not incurred the costs that they are expected to foot. In addition, travelling in a group also denies one the flexibility of choosing for example where to stay or what to eat because you have to reach a compromise with the rest of the group.

Travelling in a group therefore puts one in danger of falling prey to a “herd” mentality whereby one ends up agreeing with the wishes of the majority as opposed to saying exactly what you want. On the other hand, travelling alone gives one the needed freedom to choose what he/she wants.

Moreover, traveling in a group allows one to enhance his/her communication and personal relations. Consequently, one gets to learn how best to get along with others, and this ensures that throughout the trip, you are never lost for company. In contrast, there are individuals who do not generally get along well with others and as such, they prefer to remain alone. They are therefore better off traveling alone to avoid straining their communication and personal relations.

Whether one is traveling alone or in a group, there are various advantages and disadvantages associated with each of the two travel arrangements. Regardless of the choice that an individual traveler makes, one should always ensure that they settle on the option that will result in the most fulfilling experience.

Having friends to share our laughter, tears, and adventures with is something we often take for granted. As a student I was lucky enough to make some of the best pals around who have helped form me into the person I am today – truly invaluable!

My friends are my sounding board; I can always open up and share whatever is on my mind, from silly secrets to life-changing dreams. They pick me up when things get tough and cheer for me even louder than I do whenever I reach a milestone! With them by my side, every day of life becomes an adventure full of joys big or small.

My friends are a beautiful bouquet of uniqueness – a diverse array of personalities, passions and capabilities. But the most precious petals in this bunch have to be their kindness, loyalty and unwavering support for me through thick and thin!

Spending quality time with my friends is an absolute blast! From playing sports, to watching movies and discovering new places, it’s never a dull moment. Even when we don’t agree 100%, our friendship always manages to pull us through whatever challenge comes its way.

I’m continually blessed with the most remarkable friends who constantly encourage and support me through thick and thin. They lift my spirits, help make me a better version of myself, as well as motivate me to really reach for all that life has to offer, it’s truly priceless! For this beautiful friendship we share, I am forever thankful- cherished moments together are something no one can ever take away from us.

From bouncing laughter to unflinching support, friends are the ultimate source of comfort and joy. And I’m so glad for mine -: they make life a blast! What would we do without them? So let’s take this moment to appreciate our connections with each other; it is these relationships that bring us such immense happiness.

Essay 2: Unforgettable Experience with My Friends

My friends are the greatest blessing I’ve ever received! Last summer, we decided to take a break from everyday life and sneak away into nature. We all loaded up on camping supplies – tents, food you name it – before setting off for our adventure in the woods. It was an unforgettable experience that none of us will soon forget!

After a long day of fun and exploration, our group found ourselves huddled around the campfire. We swapped stories and shared plenty of laughs as we cooked marshmallows to perfection over the crackling flames! Plus, who can resist hot chocolate on a chilly evening? Needless to say, it was one for the books – an unforgettable night that I’ll cherish forever.

We kicked off the morning with a plunge into icy lake waters, but nothing could dampen our enthusiasm for this special adventure. With sun-kissed faces and hearts full of happy memories, we departed – each one looking forward to many more days just like this!

Essay 3: The Last Time I Saw My Friends

It was an unforgettable party night with my crew! We celebrated the occasion with dinner and karaoke. All of a sudden there was a pandemic. Dinner is forever etched in our memory as a special time that we all share.

Then everything changed. A pandemic hit and we were all stuck at home. We had to cancel all plans and meetings. It was hard not being able to see my friends, but I kept in touch with them through social media and video calls.

We will meet again when the situation improves. I can’t wait to see my friends and catch up on everything that has happened to her this past year. I miss her.

Essay 4: An Adventure Trip with My Friends

Last summer, I went on an adventure trip with my friends. We decided to take a road trip to explore the countryside. We rented a van and packed up. We were so excited to start our journey.

I had a great time hiking, exploring new places, and enjoying the beauty of nature. It was the perfect mix of adventure, fun and friendship. We clicked lots of pictures, played games, and sang songs around the campfire in the evenings.

On the last day, we exchanged presents and thanked each other for making wonderful friends in our lives. Traveling was not just about having fun. It was about creating memories to cherish for a lifetime.

In summary, an adventure trip with friends is one of life’s most beautiful experiences. It helps you relax, reconnect with nature, and strengthen your bond with your friends. I am blessed to have wonderful friends who always inspire me to explore new horizons and make the most of life.

Essay 5: I Love My Friends Essay

Friends are the most important part of our lives. They are the ones who stand by us through thick and thin, and we can always count on them to be there for us. I am lucky to have such amazing friends in my life, and I am grateful for each and every one of them.

My friends are my support system, and they are always there to cheer me up when I am feeling down. We share many memories together, from fun nights out to heart-to-heart conversations over coffee. No matter what we are doing, we always have a great time together.

One of the reasons I love my friends so much is that they accept me for who I am. They never judge me, and they are always there to offer a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. We may have our differences, but we always find a way to work through them.

Another reason I love my friends is that they make me a better person. They inspire me to be my best self, and they encourage me to pursue my dreams. I am constantly learning from them, and I know that I would not be where I am today without their love and support.

In conclusion, I love my friends more than words can express. They have brought so much joy and happiness into my life, and I am truly blessed to have them. I look forward to creating many more memories with them in the future and am grateful for the wonderful gift of their friendship.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Traveling with Friends

The idea of traveling to another country with your friends sounds like a dream come true! While there are certainly a lot of advantages when going abroad with friends, keep in mind each individuals travel-styles, personalities, likes and dislikes. Whether you get the chance to share this experience with a good friend or not, here are some of the advantages and disadvantages to going abroad with your friends.

Advantage: Knowing someone abroad!

Going abroad can be intimidating or scary. Moving to another country for the summer, semester or academic year can sometimes be lonely, and life-changing experiences are fun to share with a friend, which brings security and comfort to what might otherwise be an isolating experience.

Disadvantage: No New Friends

You might not be as independent as you would be if you didn’t know anyone. Instead of making new friends, you and your friend may end up isolating yourselves from interacting with the local community or the rest of your travel group. While traveling with a friend doesn’t automatically mean you won’t make new friends, it might impact your willingness to try.

Advantage: Fixed Travel Companion and Roommate

Creating memories with a friend abroad makes them that much more special! Plus, in the event you have to share a room, it can put you at ease knowing you’ll be sharing a space with someone you already feel comfortable with.

Disadvantage: Irritating one another

The downside of spending a lot of time with one person -- you might work each other’s last nerve! We all know this could happen when you surround yourself by the same person nonstop!

Advantage: Shared Interests and Habits

Already knowing each other means you both may have similar tastes, which makes studying, traveling, and eating that much easier to do.

Disadvantage: Limiting Your Adventurous Spirit

Your friend may not have the same adventurous spirit to try something brand new that you want to do. Or worse, you may find yourself having to do things you don't have any interest in (or a budget for), just to go along with your friend.

Advantage: Making Friends with your Friends’ Friends!

Knowing someone who is connected or has friends in your host country means you’ll meet and gain new friends, too.

Disadvantage: Only Speaking English

If you stick to your friend during your entire time abroad it may be easier to not hold yourself accountable to speaking the local language. Only speaking English without being ‘forced’ to practice could impact your ability to learn the language more quickly.

Going abroad is a transformative experience, and it’s one we all wish we could share with the people in our lives we care about the most. But sometimes, it’s missing those people and being on our own that makes the experience have the impact that it does. Just make sure you both understand what this experience represents for each other, and what you each hope to gain from it so that you can support one another 100%.

Picture this: you and your friends have just arrived in Argentina. You’re ready for an amazing two-week trip, but before you’ve even had your first empanada, there’s tension as you start disagreeing about how to split funds and how to do everything you want when the group has wildly different interests and budgets.  

Trip planning can be a lot of work even if you’re traveling solo, but when you add a handful of other people to the mix, things can get even more tangled. The good news: a little work and some honest conversations before you depart—and even before you book your trip—can reduce the stress and help ensure everyone gets the trip they want. 

Here are twelve tips for planning an epic trip with friends (going with family? Read our guide to multi-generational trips !) 

1. Choose the right friends, and set expectations from the start.

Let’s get the most obvious point out of the way first: You can be friends with lots of different people, but it doesn’t mean you’ll make good travel partners. Choosing your travel buddies wisely and being up-front on your expectations can mean the difference between a group trip you’ll always remember and one you can’t wait to forget. So how do you know you’ll be a match if you’ve never traveled together? 

Consider things like interests, budget, and personality. That doesn’t mean you need to be perfectly aligned on each of those things, but think about where you can appreciate the differences, and where they could cause friction. 

For example, if your art-loving friends expect you’ll do every activity as a group, but you’re just not into museums, you may get annoyed by the time they’re on their third hour at the Louvre. But on the other hand, if you’ve got independent friends who are cool with separating for an afternoon, you can do what makes you happy while they spend another 90 minutes admiring Etruscan antiquities. 

Have a frank discussion with your friends—and yourself—around the following: 

• Will they want to map out each hour, or are they open to spontaneity? 
• Do they want to go, go, go, and see it all, or do they prefer to take things slower? 
• Are they night owls who want to party until dawn or early-birds who want to rise with the sun? 
• Is their budget more street food and hostels or Michelin-starred dinners and luxury hotels? 
• Do they want to spend all their time as a group, or occasionally separate and do their own thing? 

2. Be upfront about your finances.

Money can cause a lot of resentment among friends, especially if you have different financial expectations for the trip. If you can only afford a hostel dorm but your friends want to stay in a resort, tell them. There’s no point in putting yourself in debt to please someone else.

From the start, be upfront about how much you can afford to spend—and how you would prefer to spend your money. While your friend may have the same budget as you, you might find out that while you prefer to splurge on a nice meal, they put their extra funds into shopping. 

Be clear not only on how much you can afford for the total trip, but also on how much you’re willing to spend per night for accommodations, what you’re comfortable spending on meals and activities, and how you prioritize your spending. Again, you don’t have to agree, but you should set expectations for what happens when you have different budgets and priorities. 

3. Consider how you’ll pick your destination. 

Deciding on a destination might actually be the toughest part of this whole trip planning process. How do you choose a place that everyone is happy with and can get to relatively cheaply?

One option: have each of your friends write out their top three to five preferred destinations, bearing in mind the length of time you have to travel and the budgets of everyone involved. 

You can easily do this over email or on paper. For a more tech-savvy way to do it, check out Kayak’s new Trip Huddle tool. First, you sign up and pick your destinations and preferred dates.

Once everyone has added their input and voted, Kayak will recommend some hotels and vacation rentals for your group. It’s useful if you have a large group and would prefer not to scroll through hundreds of messages to keep up with the conversation. 

However you vote, compare everyone’s answers, and see if there are any common destinations. If there are none, think about the common factors. Did you all choose a beachy destination or a European city? This can help narrow down your choices.

Another option: decide based on airfare and go wherever you find the best deal. The group might have been thinking London, but if nonstop flights to Paris pop up for $250, they might say “oui” to a different idea. 

If you’re coming from different destinations, make sure you choose a place that’s realistic for everyone, especially given the number of days you plan to travel. For example, you might be up for a 3-day weekend in Hawaii if you’re based in Los Angeles, but for your friend in NYC, that may be too far to go for a shorter trip. 

When you join Going, you can select multiple airports to follow, so if you’re got friends spread across the US, you can see which deals apply from the most departure cities.

4. use the right tools to find airfare deals. .

Aside from joining Going, there are a few tools you can use to make it easier to find the best deals, especially if you are flexible on travel dates and destinations. 

Skyscanner has a handy “Search Everywhere” option that shows you the cheapest flights from your airport during your selected date range. 

The Google Flights Explore map is similar. Input your departure airport(s) and it will show you the cheapest places on the map you can fly to either during specific dates, or during a date range like a weekend, one-week, or two-week trip during a specific month. You can type in a specific region or move the map to narrow down your options.

5. start planning far in advance..

The more people involved, the slower the planning process can be—and speed is your friend when it comes to snagging cheap flights . Two to eight months in advance is the sweet spot for the best airfare prices, you’ll want to start looking for flights as early as you can, especially if your dates and destination are fixed or you’re traveling over peak season like the summer or holidays. Start tracking prices by setting up flight alerts so you’ll get notified when the price dips. 

If your dates and destination aren’t fixed and you’re open to wherever there’s a good deal, chat with your friends in advance about what dates you’re all free so that you can cut down on the back-and-forth and quickly jump in a great deal when you see one. And remember, the 24-hour rule means that in most cases you can cancel a flight within 24 hours of purchase so you don’t miss a deal while waiting for your friends to confirm the dates. 

6. Use apps to keep your finances sorted.

It’s important to keep track of everything you’re splitting as a group, whether it’s the flights, hotel rooms, activities, or meals. You can create a simple spreadsheet to do this, or use an app like Tricount or Splitwise .

Tricount was developed for roommates to keep track of split expenses, but it’s completely customizable so you can use it for your travels instead. Splitwise works the exact same way. If you want to keep it simple, Venmo is also a great option for sending money quickly to your friends (but it’s not available everywhere just yet).

7. check refund policies carefully and don’t get stuck with the bill. .

It’s a cautionary tale often repeated: a group of friends plan an epic trip, with one friend making the reservations on her credit card. One by one the other friends cancel, until the friend who booked it all is left sleeping solo in a nonrefundable room for six. 

Book refundable hotels and tours as much as possible, and for anything nonrefundable, have each person book individually when you can. When you can’t, such as sharing the cost of a room, get payment upfront and be clear than any nonrefundable payments are just that: nonrefundable. Anyone who cancels at the last minute, will be out their share of the nonrefundable costs. 

If you’re booking Airbnb accommodations, you can use Airbnb’s “Pay Less Up Front” option to make a partial payment, giving you time to collect everyone’s share before the rest of the payment is due. 

If you’re traveling with a very large group and need several hotel rooms (usually at least 10) you can call the hotel and reserve a “room block.” This holds a certain number of rooms up until a specific date, but doesn’t require you to cover all the costs. When your friends book a room as part of the block, they pay individually. Any rooms not booked by the cutoff date are released, so you’re not personally on the hook if you end up needing fewer rooms than you thought. 

10. If you want to book your seats together, it may cost you.

If members of your group are each booking their own airfare, you’ll have to take a few steps to make sure you’re all sitting together. 

• Book early . Waiting until the last minute to book not only increases prices, but it increases the chance you’ll be left with only middle seats to choose from. 
• Don’t do basic economy . The cheapest rates come with fewer perks, like not being able to select your seat until check-in. While there’s a chance you could still get seats together at that point, if you want to guarantee it, upgrade to main economy, or pay extra to choose your seats in advance, if allowed with your fare. 
• Show up at the airport early . If none of the options above work for you, arrive early at the airport. You can speak with the attendant at check-in to see what seats are available, and if there are several seats altogether, he or she will likely be happy to accommodate you. 

11. Take some time for yourself. 

As mentioned above, it’s unrealistic to think everyone wants to do the same activities all the time, and taking some time apart from your group can help keep everyone stress-free. 

If there’s something you want to do and your friends don’t, there’s no harm in stepping out on your own—so long as that expectation was set at the beginning. A little bit of space ensures you get to do everything you want, and it can help you appreciate your time together even more.

12. but don’t be afraid to let your friends push you out of your comfort zone. .

Maybe you’re not normally into the idea of cliff jumping in Hawaii, or tackling a via ferrata in Switzerland, but there’s a big difference between not wanting to do something, and wanting to do it but feeling apprehensive. 

In the latter case, a little encouragement from braver friends may be all you need—and if you decide it’s not, you can always hang out nearby or snap photos of their adventure.

Share packing space

It can be incredibly annoying to get to the airport and find out that you will have to pay extra money to the airline because you have slightly over-packed your bag and it is too heavy. If you travel with a friend, you can share items such as toiletries, sunscreen, phone chargers and even certain clothes.

You might also find that your friend is one of those rare types of people who doesn’t pack the maximum amount of luggage allowed. As long as you aren’t carrying your luggage around all the time, they will likely be fine with you putting some of your clothes in their bag.

Safety and support

Travelling with others can offer an added level of safety compared to when you are travelling by yourself. If you are travelling to a country or city that has a relatively high crime rate, being with others can be a deterrent to criminals who might target you otherwise.

Besides fun and frolic, I found the independent spirit of people commendable. We spent three days in North Goa and two days in South Goa. We stayed at a guest house as most hotels were expensive and very occupied. We booked scooters to travel far and near. We also went on the cruise for the casino night.

My favourite spot was Thalassa, where we enjoyed the spectacular belly dance performance by males and females. We spent Christmas at Curlies witnessing the waxing moon at midnight. The lap of nature enriches one travelling experience and soothes their soul. The chirping of birds, the sound of the waterfall, the waves of a beach or the snow-covered mountain uplifts the traveller’s spirit.

One must not restrict oneself to a specific type of travelling experience. Life, after all, is a long journey that offers us different durations of vacations to make us laugh and learn at the same time. As Francis Bacon puts it, “Travel in the younger sort is a part of education, in the elder, a part of the experience.”

My travel companion is Stacy. I have chosen her because we have a lot in common. I would like to travel with her. My travel companion can be described based on market segmentation. In terms of geography, my companion can be categorized based on geographical variables. This includes region, nation, counties, cities, and provinces. My travel companion can be placed under the cities category. She loves traveling and traversing in different cities. This is ideal in the tourism sector given the diversity of the tourism sector.

Ideally, segmentation considers the preferences of the tourist and ensures their desires are fulfilled (Cook, Hsu, & Marqua, 2014). Equally, based on psychographics, my companion exhibits details that can be used in the marketing segment.  This is because of the various things we share. For example, the kind of music we love, the kind of people we hand out with, and we are outgoing.  The psychographic segment relates to the way people are grouped by observing their priorities, interests, and the way they live.

Ideally, it considers the lifestyle of a person.  This way, we could easily plan how we would spend on our planned travel.  The product-related variable is also used in marketing segmentation (Sallot, n.d.). I can describe my travel companion based on the categories by highlighting some of her desire. We wanted to spend economically, this way we would be categorized based on the amount of good or service offered and the degree of loyalty as a consumer. Additionally, my travel companion falls in the category based on the things we want to benefit from.

Our trip is entirely for pleasure, this way, my companion product-related segmentation will place her under the leisure category and ensure the products and services the client wants are fulfilling and benefiting the client (Cook, Hsu, & Marqua, 2014). The demography is important because of the information the service providers get. The tourism sector fulfills the desires of the travelers using the different demographic by categorizing each on the right group.  It is a significant process as the tourism firm ensures their marketing skills are broad and ensure they capture a lot of customers who have their desires fulfilled (Sallot, n.d.).

Additionally, their information can be used to target their wishes by offering products and services that they will make their travel satisfactory. The marketing strategy requires an appropriate approach that endeavors to meet the needs, wants, and expectations of the client. According to Figures 2-1, the first decision concerns laying commitment for the trip. This follows the decisions already made to travel. There are things to consider as we went through the first decisions, time, more, and effort were crucial in this category (Cook, Hsu, & Marqua, 2014, p. 38). This calls on the devotion to see the trip be a success.

The second decision considers the destination decisions. It also the purpose of the trip and consider the time frame that the travel could allow. This way, it helps in making the final decision by observing the variables. The third decision emphasis the commitment to travel. The process also runs by considering the things that are appealing to those traveling both individually and as a group. The fourth decision process tends to be conscious of previous commitments. It looks into the specific details that are crucial for the travel, for example, the time to spend during the travel, time to depart, and the kind of the destination.

Additionally, it considers the mode of transportation which will prompt the explanation of the cost, insurance cover to facilitate unforeseen circumstances, and the mode of booking rooms. The fifth decision analyses the decisions during the trip. Given the placed trip, it is important to know the means to use at the destination. Additionally, if there are reservations made, it is significant to make the theme clear early. Activities to conduct at the destination are also crucial to ensure satisfaction is redeemed.

The decision process depicts both benefits and challenges when chosen in the right category. Ideally, the benefits of the decisions process are the emphasis on preparedness. Additionally, it is beneficial as the details of the trip are highlighted hence easier to make decisions based on the things that motivate the traveler. However, it is challenging because of the many factors to consider. For example, time, destination services, and funds (Sallot, n.d.). The travel decision, for example, pushes and pull motivation describes our trip (Cook, Hsu, & Marqua, 2014, p. 41). We were compelled by our traits as we wanted to travel elsewhere to be out of the norm.

Additionally, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs places us at the belongingness needs. The results of our decision are based on the fourth decision.

Conan O'Brien Is Always Pitching a Travel Show to Ex Turned 'Good Friend' Lisa Kudrow

In a conversation moderated by Jake Tapper, O'Brien talked about his career and previewed his new Max series

Conan O’Brien continues to prove he’s a master of live entertainment.

On April 11, the longtime talk show host, 60, sat down for a chat moderated by CNN’s Jake Tapper at The Paley Center For Media in New York City. During the event, titled “Globetrotting and Podcasting: Conan O’Brien’s Life After Late-Night TV,” O’Brien offered insights into his career following the end of his TBS late-night show Conan in 2021 and gave guests a preview of his upcoming Max series Conan O’Brien Must Go .

During the sit-down, O'Brien shared an idea for a series he pitched to his now-ex-turned pal Lisa Kudrow . (The pair previously dated from 1988 to 1993, though O'Brien wed Liza Powel O'Brien in 2002 and Kudrow has been married to Michel Stern since 1995.)

"I did pitch my good friend, Lisa Kudrow, who I love, an idea for a travel show because it's very her," the comedian said. "She travels the world but never leaves her hotel room. And she's always wearing a big robe and sipping on, like, a smoothie."

"People come in and show her pictures of that amazing part of the world and she's like, 'I'm good. I'm gonna watch Sixteen Candles now,'" he continued. "And every now and then, she does go out, but in like a giant SUV . . . and she doesn't come out of it. And she was laughing. She was like, 'I'd do that.'"

Reflecting on his own upcoming travel comedy series Conan O’Brien Must Go , the podcaster noted that he doesn't want his show to be similar to Stanley Tucci 's CNN program Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy .

"I have a lot of respect and love for Stanely Tucci, but what I wanna do is the exact opposite," he explained while talking about his 2018  Conan Without Borders  episode, in which he went to Italy with his staffer Jordan Schlanksy. "I want people to really have a good time and laugh, but I want there to be a deficit in their knowledge when they're done watching my show."

Earlier in the week, O’Brien’s press run for his travel docuseries took him back to The Tonight Show , where he served as the host for a short one-season stint from 2009 to 2010. 

Of returning to the program , O’Brien told host Jimmy Fallon , “It’s weird to come back.”

O'Brien was suddenly laid off from his Tonight Show gig and predecessor Jay Leno returned to his former role. 

In addition to his self-titled talk show that ran for 11 seasons, O’Brien launched a podcast in 2018 called Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend . The audio show welcomed an array of notable guests, from former President Barack Obama to Prince and Paul McCartney .

Martin misses the rush of the newsroom. But he’s also glad to no longer be in it.

“I miss the people at WBZ-TV,” Martin said. “I do not miss having to be in the know all the time about everything.”

The world's first doggy jet service will cost you $6K for a one-way ticket

Dogs will soon be able to experience their own “ fur st” class flight with the launch of the world’s first jet charter company specifically designed for man’s best friend. 

BARK, the dog toy company that coordinates the popular treat subscription BarkBox, is partnering with a jet charter service to take away the challenges of long-distance traveling with dogs, according to a press release. BARK Air, as the company calls it, offers the “white glove experience typical of a human’s first-class experience and redirected all that pampering to pooches.”

Taking dogs on airplanes is, typically, a stressful endeavor with different airlines having different policies for pet travel. For example, American Airlines allows small dogs in a carrier to be placed under the seat in front, but larger dogs are put in the cargo space, which has been found to be stressful for the pet. For United Airlines , pets can fly in the cabin if there’s enough space, but they must fit in a carrier under the seat in front.

“We are excited to take the insights we’ve learned over years to create an experience that is truly dog-first, which is drastically different from just accepting dogs – from the ground to the skies,” said Matt Meeker, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer at BARK, in a statement.

However, you’ll need to pay a hefty fee for the dog-friendly flight. For now, a ticket for just one dog and one human will run you at least $6,000 one way. 

The first BARK Air flights will take off on May 23, and so far, there are only two flight routes available, both from New York’s Westchester County Airport. From New York to London’s Stansted Airport, it’ll cost $8,000 one-way and to Los Angeles’s Van Nuys Airport will cost $6,000 one-way. Tickets are available for purchase on April 11.

Not only does BARK Air allow dogs, it also focuses on the furry friends by treating them like VIPs, the press release said. BARK Air passengers can skip TSA checkpoints and screenings and instead experience a simple check-in process where they can meet the other dogs on the flight and the humans are served a meal cooked by on-site chefs. 

When boarding, a BARK Air concierge is on-hand to ensure the dogs are socializing and adjusting to the environment well. 

Each flight will undergo “Dogs Fly First” flight prep that includes “calming pheromones, music, and colors that pups prefer.” To make the flying experience easier and more enjoyable, dogs have access to various aids such as calming treats, noise-canceling ear muffs, and calming jackets.

During takeoff and descent, dogs are given a beverage of their choice to help their ears adjust to cabin pressurization. Of course, there will be plenty of treats on the flight.
